THE BODY OF THE CAR IS GENERALLY SOLID. I NOTICED A HARD CLUNKING SOUND COMING FROM THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL WELL AND FIGURED IT WAS BAD SHOCKS. WHEN I INSPECTED THE VEHICLE, I NOTICED A VERY LARGE RUST HOLE SURROUNDING THE SHOCK TOWER WHERE IT MEETS THE WHEEL WELL. THE RUST WAS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE SHOCK. EVENTUALLY, IF I HIT A BAD BUMP, THE SHOCK WILL MOST LIKELY FAIL AND GO UP INTO THE TRUNK, ESSENTIALLY LEAVING THE VEHICLE TOTALED. THIS FAILURE SEEMS TO BE REPORTED COMMONLY FOR THIS SPECIFIC YEAR (2005) ESCAPES. IT IS VERY DANGEROUS WITH IT BEING SO CLOSE TO THE CRUCIAL SHOCK TOWER, AND IS EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE IF EVEN POSSIBLE DUE TO THE SEVERITY TO REPAIR. THIS ABSOLUTELY SEEMS LIKE SOMETHING FORD SHOULD BE AWARE OF THIS MASSIVE FLAW AND OFFER CUSTOMERS SOME KIND OF SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM.
WHILE DRIVING HER 2005 FORD ECAPE AFTER COMING TO AN ABRUPT STOP AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. MY DAUGHTER FOUND STEERING EXTREMELY DIFFICULT, WITH VEHICLE PULLING EXTREMELY TO THE RIGHT THEN SWERVING INTO THE OTHER LANE TO THE LEFT UPON TRYING TO CORRECT FOR THE PULL. SHE PULLED THE CAR OVER AND FOUND THAT WITH THE STEERING WHEEL STRAIGHT AHEAD THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL WAS POINTING OUTWARD TOWARD THE CURB WITH THE TOP OF THE WHEEL TILTED INWARD TOWARDS THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS UNDRIVABLE AND WAS TOWED HOME. VISUAL INSPECTION BY AN EXPERIENCED MECHANIC FOUND THAT EXTREME CORROSION OF THE SUBFRAME AT THE LOWER CONTROL ARM FRONT MOUNTING POINT HAD CAUSED THE SUBFRAME TO SEPERATE AND ALLOW THE LOWER CONTROL ARM TO BEND OUTWARDS AND CAUSE EXTREME MISALIGNMENT.
I PURCHASED A 2005 FORD ESCAPE AND AFTER PURCHASING IT AND HAVING IT REGISTERED ON MY WAY HOME I GOT TO SOME ROADWAY WITH A LOT OF POT HOLES AND WHEN I HIT ONE I HEARD THIS GOD AWFUL NOISE COMING FROM THE RIGHT REAR ONLY TO DISCOVER THAT THE REAR SHOCK TOWER WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT AND THE SHOCK JUST SWAYING AROUND UNATTACHED AT THE TOP. AFTER GETTING HOME AND RESEARCHING IT I FIND OUT THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE ESCAPE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD WHEN ATTEMPTING TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE SHOCK TOWER HOUSING WAS FRACTURED AND PUNCTURED THROUGH THE SUBFRAME. DURING THE FAILURE, THE BRAKE LINE AND REAR BRAKE LIGHT WIRE WERE SEVERED, WHICH CAUSED BRAKE FLUID TO LEAK AND THE REAR BRAKE LIGHT TO MALFUNCTION. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000. *JS
CRACK SUB FRAME ON RIGHT FRONT! EXTREME DETERIORATION ALMOST CAUSING ACCIDENT AND BECAME UNSAFE TO DRIVE! RECALLS ON 2001-2004 FOR SAME PROBLEM WHY NOT 2005? EXTREMELY DANGEROUS MALFUNCTION! DEFINITELY GO IMPORT IF THIS IS WHAT FORDS QUALITY AND SUPPORT HAS BECOME!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR WHEEL WELL WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED AND THE SHOCK MOUNT HAD SEPARATED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THE SHOCK MOUNT FAILURE. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND COULD NOT BE REPAIRED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT DROVE TO LITHIA FORD LINCOLN OF ROSEBURG (1650 NE STEPHENS ST, ROSEBURG, OR 97470, (541) 537-4643) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT TWO HYBRID FANS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT CLAIMED THAT A RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR THIS YEAR, MAKE, AND MODEL VEHICLE; HOWEVER, UPON INVESTIGATION, NO RECALLS COULD BE FOUND. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND WERE CURRENTLY ORDERING THE PARTS FOR THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE. DRIVEN HOME AT 40 MPH AND THE BRAKE LIGHT AND THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON AND THERE WAS A BEEP. THERE WERE THEN NO BRAKES AT ALL. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND COAST TO A STOP. TURNED OFF THE TRUCK AND STARTED IT AGAIN AND IT HAD BRAKES. ON THIS LAST INCIDENT, THE SAME THING IN THE SAME ORDER HAPPENED. THIS PROBLEM IS VERY DANGEROUS. IT IS INTERMITTENT THUS MAKING IT HARD TO DIAGNOSE.
THE BACK PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL WELL HAS COMPLETELY ROTTED AWAY, SO THE BODY OF THE CAR IS SLAMMED AGAINST THE SUSPENSION BARS, OBVIOUSLY CAUSING DAMAGE AS WELL AS AN UNBEARABLE CRASHING BANG ANY AND EVERY TIME YOU HIT A BUMP. I AM UNSURE IF MY WHEEL IS GOING TO COME OFF OR HOW LONG BEFORE MY FRAME WILL BE BENT. I HAVE SEEN SIMILAR COMPLAINT ABOUT THE SAME MAKE MODEL AND YEAR AND IT IS ALWAYS THE BACK WHEEL WELL.
BACK WINDOW LATCHES METAL ON THE HINGES OF WINDOW COMPLETELY ROTTED OUT, EVERY TIME CAR IS DRIVEN I HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THE WINDOW SLIDING OUT, I CANNOT OPEN THE WINDOW BECAUSE IT WILL FALL RIGHT OUT. I KNOW OTHER YEARS OF THE SAME MAKE HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE.
CROSS OVER ON PASSENGER SIDE RUSTED IN HALF,THE EXACT SAME THING THAT WASTE CALLED ON THE 2001-2004,MY WIFE WAS DRIVING WITH TWO OF MY GRANDCHILDREN WITH HER WHEN IT BROKE,THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND SERIOUS SITUATION,I FEEL FORD SHOULD FIX MY VEHICLE,IT WAS MANUFACTURED IN2004,I WILL TAKE IT TO COURT IF NECESSARY, INNOCENT PEOPLE COULD GET KILLED,IT IS THE EXACT SAME RECALL AS THE YEAR BEFORE AND WAS MANUFACTURED IN THAT YEAR OF THE RECALL MY ESCAPE HAS NO OTHER RUST ON IT ANYWHERE,I HAVE PICS TO PROVE IT,MY WIFE WAS JUST GETTING READY TO TURN INTO A DRIVEWAY FROM A CITY STREET
WHEN SLOWING DOWN VEHICLE TO STOP FOR A CAR AHEAD OF YOU, STOPPING AT STOP SIGN, OR SLOWING DOWN TO MAKE A TURN, VEHICLE ENGINE WILL STOP LEAVING DRIVER IN A SERIOUS AND COMPROMISING POSITION, VEHICLE HAS TO BE PLACED IN NEUTRAL OR PARK TO RESTART AND OCCUPANT MUST SHIFT INTO DRIVE QUICKLY AND ACCELERATE QUICKLY SO ENGINE WILL NOT KILL, ONCE THE VEHICLE WARMS UP IT WILL KILL RIGHT AWAY, I'M AFRAID THIS IS GOING TO HAPPEN AND BE IN AN INTERSECTION AND HIT OR HIT FROM BEHIND, VEHICLE HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED AND TRANSMISSION FLUIDS ARE EXACTLY THE LEVEL THEY SHOULD BE AT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE THE CONTACT'S DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, SHE HEARD A STRANGE SOUND AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SWERVE. THE DRIVER PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER TO CHECK FOR A FLAT TIRE, BUT THE TIRES WERE FINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S HOME AND THEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SHOCK ABSORBER MOUNTS ON THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WERE DAMAGED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 189,319.
2005 ESCAPE, UNDER 100,000 MILES COMPLETELY RUSTING OUT ON THE UNDERCARRIAGE TO THE POINT OF A SAFETY ISSUE AND NOW UN-DRIVABLE. DISCONNECTION OF PIECES AND PARTS WHERE THE ONLY WAY TO KEEP THEM TOGETHER IS WITH A HANGER. WAS TOLD THE HANGER WORKED BETTER THAN ANYTHING THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT COULD DO. RIGHT PASSENGER WHEEL WELL COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT, HUGE HOLE NOW WHERE YOU CAN SEE COMPLETELY INTO CAR. SHOCKS BANG AND RUB AGAINST THE WHEEL COVER IN THE CAR. JACK COULD NOT EVEN STAY ATTACHED DUE TO THE RUST. DUE TO THIS ISSUE, BRAKES FAILED WHILE PULLING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT. TO KNOW FORD HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM (RECALL OF 2002-2004 FOR SAME ISSUE) AND MY DAUGHTER HAS BEEN DRIVING THIS CAR AT COLLEGE AND TWO HOURS BACK AND FORTH SICKENS ME. WAS TOLD THIS HAPPENED ALL THE TIME TO THESE CASES BY FORD REPAIR SHOP. ALSO TOLD IT WASN'T WORTH FIXING. THE SAFETY OF ALL DRIVING THIS VEHICLE IS AT A MAJOR RISK.
SUBFRAME ON PASSENGER'S SIDE ROTTED/ RUSTED, BROKE SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING DOWN BUSY ROAD AND WAS UNABLE TO STEER
07/13/2019. I OWN A 2005 FORD ESCAPE , MANUFACTURING DATE 04/04 . TODAY I WAS DRIVING HOME I NOTICED A VERY LOUD WHISTLING NOISE , DIFFICULTY STEERING AND ESPECIALLY WHEN ATTEMPTING TO TURN. LUCKILY MADE IT TO MY DRIVEWAY AND MY HUSBAND LOOKED AT THE VEHICLE AND SAID BOTH FRONT TIRES WERE LEANING INWARD SO HE LOOKED UNDERNEATH TO FIND MY SUBFRAME IS ALL BUT RUSTED INTO ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. I KNOW THIS WAS A PROBLEM FOR ESCAPES 2001-2004 OBVIOUSLY FORD DID NOT GET THIS SITUATION FIXED FOR THEIR 2005 MODELS. FORD I WANT MY SUV FIXED!!. YOU KNEW THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH PREVIOUS YEARS NOW DO THE RESPONSIBLE THING AND FIX IT.
OVER THE PAST 3 YEARS I HAVE HAD THE ISSUE OF 'STOP SAFELY NOW' ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THESE ISSUES DIDN'T START UNTIL THE MEC PUMP WAS REPLACED UNDER A RECALL. AFTER THAT MY 2005 ESCAPE HYBRID WILL SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING OR NOT START OR CUT OUT THE HYBRID POWER AND RUN ON ENGINE ONLY. I TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE WE HAVE GOTTEN ALL OTHER SERVICE DONE THREE TIMES FOR THESE ISSUES. THEY HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO TELL ME ANYTHING, STATING ONLY THAT THERE ARE NO CODES, SO NO IDEA WHERE TO LOOK. I COULDN'T UNDERSTAND HOW THE COMPUTER CAN KNOW TO TELL ME TO STOP DRIVING THE CAR, YET NOT RECORD A DTC. IT HAPPENED AGAIN ON THE FIRST WARM DAY OF THE SUMMER - DROVE ACROSS TOWN, PARKED IT, CAME BACK 20 MINUTES LATER AND IT WOULDN'T START, SHOWING 'STOP SAFELY NOW'. I LEFT IT UNTIL THE NEXT MORNING AND IT STARTED RIGHT UP AND I DROVE IT HOME. I WENT OUT AND BOUGHT SCANXL AND USED MY LAPTOP TO SCAN THE CAR. I FOUND P1A10, P1A14, P0A0A, AND P0A95. IF I CAN BUY SOME CONSUMER PROGRAM AND FIND THIS INFO, WAY IS FORD TELLING THERE ARE NO CODES? FORD ALSO REPLACED THE BATTERY FANS TWO YEARS AGO, STATING THEY WERE COVERED UNDER SOME RECALL OR WARRANTY. SEARCHING THE INTERNET GETS ME 100'S OF COMMENTS ON THIS STOP SAFELY ISSUE WITH DOZENS OF POSSIBLE CAUSES DEPENDING ON THE YEAR AND MODEL. MY SCAN TOOL SHOWS A BATTERY VOLTAGE OF 665 VOLTS, THOUGH IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE A 300 VOLT BATTERY. THE HYBRID EVAPORATOR TEMP CAN RANGE BETWEEN 220 AND 310 DEGREES F WHEN IT'S RUNNING OK. THAT CAN'T BE NORMAL. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT'S GOING ON AND CAN'T GET ANY HELP FROM THE FORD DEALER.
FRONT SUB FRAME ON PASSENGER SIDE RUSTED THREW AND WENT INTO DITCH BECAUSE WAS NOT ABLE STEER
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle suddenly stalled with the check engine warning light illuminated. Additionally, there was an unknown warning light with a red triangle displayed. The contact turned off the vehicle and waited for approximately 15-30 minutes before the vehicle would restart and function correctly. The contact replaced the battery however, the failure persisted. The contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer and was informed that the shift lever would disengage and that the hybrid battery needed to be replaced or the vehicle would no longer be operable. The failure persisted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 137,000.

WHEN THE CONTACT MANUALLY INSERTED THE KEY INTO THE DOOR AND TURNED IT TO THE LEFT, THE ALARM WOULD TURN OFF. WHEN THE KEY WAS TURNED TO THE RIGHT, THE ALARM WOULD SOUND. IN ADDITION, THE ALARM WOULD SOUND A HALF HOUR TO 45 MINUTES AFTER LOCKING THE DOORS. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 142,000.
ON THE DRIVERS SIDE IN THE FENDER WELLS AND ON THE AREA AROUND WHERE YOU PUT GAS IN IT FALLING COMPLETELY APART AT A VERY RAPID SPEED, THE FENDER ON THE AREA OF THE GAS CAP IS FALLING APART LOST PART OF THE THIS WHILE DRIVING TO WORK

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 116,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
RUSTED REAR SHOCK MOUNT, BAD SUSPENSION CAUSING UNSAFE DRIVING.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SUBFRAME FRACTURED WHILE TURNING THE VEHICLE INTO A PARKING LOT. THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY STOPPED AND ONE OF THE TIRES BECAME DETACHED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S HOME. MIKE CASTRUCCI FORD LINCOLN OF ALEXANDRIA (7400 ALEXANDRIA PIKE, ALEXANDRIA, KY 41001, (859) 448-9400) AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 163,000.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
CAR TURNS OFF WHILE DRIVING MESSAGE ON DASH SAYS TO STOP SAFELY NOW CAR WILL START UP AGAIN AFTER WAITING A WHILE. CAR STOPPED WHILE ON FREEWAY BARELY MADE IT TO THE SHOULDER.
TAKATA RECALL THE 01 THRU 04 WERE RECALLED FOR SAME PROBLEM THE FRONT SUBFRAME RUSTED IN TO CAUSING THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL TO WONDER ALL OVER IF DROVE ANY MORE WOULD HAVE CAUSE A SERIOUS WRECK I WAS DRIVING VEHICLE WHEN I NOTICED THAT IT FELT LIKE THE FRONT WHEEL WAS COMING OFF LUCKILY I WAS ONLY A COUPLE MILES FROM HOME THE DAY BEFORE I TOOK MY GRANDSON TO CHARLESTON WV TO MEET HIS MOM IF IT WOULD HAVE BROKEN ON I 77 AT 70 PLUS MILES AN HR COULD HAVE BEEN TRAGIC IT BEING THE SAME ISSUE WITH EARLY MODELS AND FORD SENT A BAR TO TRY N FIX IT A JOKE JUST LEARN THIS ON INTERNET
I WAS CHECKING TO SEE IF MY FORD POSSIBLY HAD A RECALL WITH THE ISSUE I AM HAVING AND IT APPEARS THAT THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME ISSUE I AM HAVING. MY REAR PASSENGER WHEEL WELL ALSO HAS RUSTED OUT CAUSING THE SHOCK TO COME LOOSE AND IT IS NO LONGER ATTACHED AND WHILE DRIVING IS MOVING AROUND IN WHAT SOUNDS LIKE MY TRUNK. I HONESTLY CANNOT BELIEVE THAT WITH ALL THESE SAME ISSUES I AM READING THIS IS NOT A RECALL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE.
THERE WERE A FEW INCIDENTS WHERE MY 2005 FORD ESCAPE WAS STATIONARY/ IN PARK AND IT SAID THAT MY CAR WAS IN REVERSE. WHEN I PUT MY CAR IN REVERSE SOMETIMES IT WOULD GO INTO DRIVE. THERE WAS ANOTHER INCIDENT WHERE I WAS IN PARK AND MY CAR RANDOMLY WENT FROM PARK TO REVERSE TO NEUTRAL AND BACK TO PARK ON ITS OWN. LASTLY, WHEN I TRY TO REVERSE IT WOULD NOT REVERSE AND STAY IN NEUTRAL.
WHILE COMING UP TO A STOP SIGN THE BRAKES STOPPED WORKING. LUCKILY THERE WERE NO CARS IN FRONT OF ME AS THE CAR CONTINUED TO ROLL PASS THE STOP SIGN. FLOORING THE BRAKES CAUSED THE CAR TO SLOW DOWN SLOWLY. I ENDED UP PULLING OVER IMMEDIATELY, TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE AND INSPECTING THE VEHICLE. I SAW NO CLEAR INDICATION OF ANYTHING BEING WRONG. WHEN I TURNED BACK ON THE VEHICLE EVERYTHING WAS FINE, UNTIL THE SAME THING HAPPENED THE NEXT DAY. I TOOK THE CAR TO A FEW CAR SHOPS BUT NO ONE COULD FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. THE CAR WAS EVEN TAKEN FOR A TEST DRIVE BY THE MECHANIC BUT PERFORMED WITH NO PROBLEMS. I DON'T FEEL COMFORTABLE PAYING SO MUCH FOR A NON GUARANTEED JOB SO UNFORTUNATELY I AM STILL DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND THE BRAKES CONTINUES TO STOP WORKING AT RANDOM TIMES.

THE CONTACT COMPLETED THE SAME PROCESS UNTIL SHE WAS ABLE TO SLOWLY ARRIVE HOME. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT PLANNED TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO AN UNKNOWN DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER HAD NOT BEEN CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 170,000.
EXCESSIVE WHEEL WELL/SHOCK TOWER RUST LOCATED IN THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE. I HAVE HEARD A CLUNKING SOUND WHEN DRIVING; BROUGHT IT TO MY GARAGE; THEY SHOWED ME THE PICTURES OF HUGE GAPS IN THE WHEEL WELL THAT WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT. MY UNDERSTANDING IS THERE WAS A RECALL ON FORD ESCAPES (2001-2004) BUT FORD FORGOT TO DO A RECALL ON THE 2005 ESCAPE MODEL. THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH MY VEHICLE.
HEARD A LOUD SCRATCHING NOISE FROM REAR OF CAR. UPON INSPECTION, ENTIRE REAR PASSENGER WHEEL WELL IS RUSTED OUT AND STRUT HAS BEEN PUSHED THROUGH INTO REAR SEAT AREA. IMMEDIATELY WENT TO FORD DEALER AND SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND COSTLY TO FIX. HE ADVISED ME TO CALL FORD, AND THEY LISTENED TO MY COMPLAINT AND ISSUED ME A CASE NUMBER. SINCE THEN, I HAVE HEARD NOTHING. I AM STUCK WITH A CAR THAT RUNS LIKE A TOP, LOADED WITH FEATURES, NEW TIRES AND IS WORTH ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. THE DEALER TOLD ME HAD SEEN THE SAME PROBLEM ON OTHER 2005 ESCAPES AND THEY ARE COST PROHIBITIVE TO REPAIR. I HAVE LEARNED THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE 2000-2004 MODELS BUT NOT 2005. DEALER TOLD ME IF I CONTINUED TO DRIVE IT, EVENTUALLY THE WHEEL WILL BE SUCKED ALL THE WAY INTO THE BACK SEAT-TRUNK AREA AND I COULD BE KILLED ON THE HIGHWAY.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER TRAIN CABLE CAUSED AN ELECTRICAL FAILURE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 152,000.

THIS 2005 FORD ESCAPE(AND OTHERS ACCORDING TO THE INTERNET) COMPLETELY SHUT OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I WAS MERGING ONTO A HIGHWAY GOING 60 MPH AND IT JUST SHUT OFF. IT JUST COMPLETELY KILLED W/O ANY NOTICE WHICH IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS CONDITION BECAUSE I, OR SOMEONE ELSE,COULD'VE EASILY HAVE BEEN HURT.
THE ESCAPE STARTED MAKING A SQUEAKING NOISE FOR ABOUT 3 DAYS WHILE DRIVING IT ON CITY STREETS AND ON THE HIGHWAY AND THEN IT STARTED MAKING A LOUD CLUNKING NOISE AND WAS BANGING LIKE SOMETHING BROKE LOOSE. WE THOUGHT THE SHOCKS BROKE. UPON CLOSER INSPECTION WE NOTICED THAT THE FRAME AT THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL WELL HAD COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT AND THE SHOCK HAD CAME OFF BECAUSE THERE WAS NOTHING FOR IT TO ATTACH TO. WE HAVE THE CAR PARKED BECAUSE IT IS TOO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. IT ONLY HAS APPROXIMATELY 80,000 MILES. OUR DAUGHTER HAD JUST PURCHASED IT IN MAY 2017 FROM A LOCAL CAR DEALER. I HAVE RESEARCHED BUT THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THIS AND THERE VERY MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME ISSUES WITH DIFFERENT YEAR ESCAPES.

FORD DEALERSHIP REPROG KEYS- REPAIRED DRIVE OFF, BARELY OFF THE LOT AND IT QUIT AGAIN. NOW I SEE THIS IS A MANUFACTURES ISSUE WITH 05 ESCAPES AFTER AN ONLINE SEARCH. NEW FORD DIAGNOSIS- NEW PLUGS & COIL PACK, INTAKE GASKET. 170,000 MILES. MY ALARM RANDOMLY GOES OFF TOO WHICH COULD BE RELATED TO ELECTRICAL ISSUES. FORD MOTOR IS LIABLE IF SOMEONE'S VEHICLE STALLS AND IS KILLED DUE TO THIS PROBLEM THEY KNOW ABOUT BUT HAVE NOT CORRECTED OR RECALLED.

I WAS ON ROUTE 30 A MILE FROM MY HOUSE IT STARTED SHAKING & MAKING A HORRIBLE NOISE, THE STEERING WHEEL WAS VIBRATING, I BARELY MANAGED GETTING WHEELS TO TURN IT OFF THE HWY, I THOUGHT TO MYSELF, THIS [XXX] THING FEELS LIKE IT'S GONNA FALL APART, HOME WAS 1/4 MILE, NOISE & VIBRATING CONTINUED, STRUGGLED TURNING WHEEL INTO MY DRIVEWAY, PARKED IT, GOT OUT AND FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL IS TILTED WAY OUT. MY SON JACKED IT UP AND SAID MY LOWER CONTROL ARM IS COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT OR THRU AND BROKEN OFF AND IT IS ALL RUSTED BAD UNDERNEATH & SAID IT'S SCRAPE. TOW TRUCK DRIVER TOLD ME IT WAS THE SUB FRAME THAT HAD RUSTED CAUSING THE WHEEL TO FALL OFF. HE HAS SEEN THIS MANY TIMES. COMMON PROBLEMS WITH THIS HIS CAR. ON WAY TO LOCAL MECHANIC TO SEE QUOTE TO FIX.
THE DRIVERS SIDE WHEEL WELL COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT, LARGE HOLE IN BODY, SHOCK WENT RIGHT THREW THE BODY OF THE CAR. THIS HAPPENED EXTREMELY FAST, I JUST PUT NEW TIRES AND BRAKES ON THE CAR. THIS DEFECT IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE AND POISED A SAFETY CONCERN FOR ME AND MY CHILDREN. THE CAR CAN'T BE SOLD OR TRADED IN AND NOW HEADED TO THE JUNKYARD
THE RIGHT REAR "WHEELHOUSE PANEL" RUSTED OUT AROUND THE SHOCK ABSORBER UPPER MOUNTING BRACKET CAUSING THE SHOCK ABSORBER TO BECOME DETACHED AND NON-FUNCTIONAL WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION, MAKING A TURN. THIS CAUSED RIDE AND HANDLING CONCERNS WHICH AFFECTED VEHICLE SAFETY. I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE AND EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR, ~ $1,500.00.
