TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE MAINTENANCE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE ELECTRICAL MOTOR WAS OVERHEATING. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 77,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD ESCAPE. HE HEARD A NOISE IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AND WHEN HE EXAMINED THE BUMPER HE NOTICED THAT THE BASE WAS LOOSE, THE BRACKET WAS BROKEN, AND IT WAS MADE OF ALUMINUM. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE ENTIRE FRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT THE COST OF $1,200.00. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
TAKING OFF AT A LIGHT, MY 2005 FORD ESCAPE JERKED BACK AND STARTING MAKING A GRINDING SOUND. MY ESCAPE DOES HAVE A LOT OF MILES ON IT (94,000) TO BE EXACT. IT WAS NO LONGER DRIVABLE, WHEN PUT IN DRIVE OR REVERSE IT WOULD THRUST MY CAR BACKWARD AND FORWARD PROFUSELY. INEVITABLY, I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO A SHOP THEY CONCLUDED THAT MY TORQUE CONVERTER HAD BLOWN UP AND ALL THE PIECES FROM THE CONVERTER WERE SUCKED INTO THE FILTER CAUSING MY TRANS TO LOCK UP, THEREFORE COSTING ME $2200 TO FIX. I UNDERSTAND THAT IT HAS A LOT OF MILES ON IT HOWEVER, I WAS GOOGLING TRYING TO LOOK FOR SOME HELP AS I AM 19 YEARS OLD AND DON'T HAVE THAT KIND OF MONEY AND I CAME ACROSS A WEBSITE WITH OVER 200 ENTRIES FROM DIFFERENT PEOPLE ABOUT THEIR TRANSMISSIONS IN THEIR FORD ESCAPES. YOU ALL NEED TO LOOK INTO THIS BECAUSE A TRANSMISSION IS NOT CHEAP AND I NEED A RELIABLE CAR. *TR
FROM ONE DAY TO ANOTHER THE CAR STARTED SHAKING WHEN IT WAS AT A STOP OR LIGHT AND THE ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON, THE A/C STOPPED WORKING AND CD PLAYER TOO. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE COMPUTER NEEDED TO BE CHANGED AND IT WOULD COST ME ABOUT $2000 AND THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE THE A/C OR CD PLAYER. I ASKED IF IT COULD BE RESET OR SOMETHING CHEAPER COULD BE DONE AND I WAS TOLD THAT NO. THE GUY THERE SAID HE DID NOT KNOW WHY THIS HAPPENS BUT IT DOES AND HE SAID THAT HE SEES THIS KIND OF SITUATION EVERY TWO MONTHS WITH THE FORD ESCAPES. I THINK THAT IF IT HAS HAPPENED TO SO MANY PEOPLE AND WE HAVE TO PAY OVER $2000 TO REPAIR IT, IT IS NOT FAIR FOR US AS CONSUMER BECAUSE I HONESTLY DO NOT HAVE THAT KIND OF MONEY TO PAY. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 FORD ESCAPE WITH TWO OEM TIRES ON THE REAR AND TWO NEWER TIRES OF FROM THE SAME COMPANY (CONTINENTAL) ON THE FRONT END. FOR MONTHS NOW, WHEN TRAVELING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS ON THE HIGHWAY, I HAVE HEARD A LOUD AND VIOLENT FLAPPING SOUND. THE NOISE SOUNDED AS IF THERE WAS A WINDOW OPEN... AFTER CHECKING MY TIRES, SEAL ON ALL OPENINGS, ETC., I COULD NOT FIND THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM. YESTERDAY EVENING, WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY BETWEEN 50 AND 70MPH, I HAD A BLOWOUT OF MY REAR OEM DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE. FORTUNATELY, IT WAS NOT RAINING AND IT OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING ALONG A STRETCH OF I-10 THAT HAD NO GUARDRAILS, CONSTRUCTION, ETC. WHEN I GOT OUT TO INSPECT THE DAMAGE, I NOTED THAT THE TREAD ITSELF WAS PRACTICALLY WITHOUT PROBLEM; THE PROBLEM WAS IN THE SIDEWALL. MY HAD A RIP IN THE SHAPE OF A CRESCENT MOON WITH SPLITTING GOING BOTH TOWARD THE EXTERIOR OF THE TIRE AND TOWARD THE INTERIOR OR WHEEL/HUB ASSEMBLY. A LOCAL POLICE OFFICER ARRIVED AND ASSISTED WITH THE REPAIR, WHICH TOOK MOMENTS, BUT I AM QUITE CONCERNED ABOUT THE INTEGRITY OF BOTH THE REMAINING OEM TIRE I CURRENTLY STILL HAVE ON THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE AND, MORE IMPORTANTLY, THE TWO NEWER CONTINENTAL SPORT LX TIRES I CURRENTLY HAVE ON THE FRONT END. MY CAR HAS LOW MILEAGE FOR IT'S AGE AND THE TREAD ON ALL OF MY TIRES IS NOT WORN; THERE APPEARS TO BE NO EXPLANATION OTHER THAN A DESIGN FLAW OR DEFECT. I AM QUITE CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY AND AM UNSURE WHETHER I SHOULD REPLACE ALL FOUR TIRES WITH A DIFFERENT BRAND OR IF THIS ALLEGED DEFECT ONLY AFFECTS THE OEM LINE OF CONTINENTAL TIRES WHICH CAME WITH MY VEHICLE (CONTINENTAL CONTITRAC I THINK). I HAVE READ ABOUT SIMILAR INSTANCES ONLINE, BUT ALL INSTANCES DO NOT DESCRIBE A RESOLUTION PROCESS OTHER CUSTOMERS PURCHASING NEW TIRES AND/OR RECEIVING A $20 VOUCHER FROM THE TIRE MANUFACTURER, GENERAL. I THINK THIS BRAND/MODEL SHOULD BE RECALLED AND REPLACEMENT TIRES OF BETTER QUALITY SHOULD BE PROVIDED AT NO COST. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE DRIVER REPEATEDLY APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL FOR TWENTY MINUTES AND WAS ABLE TO RESUME NORMAL OPERATION. THE FAILURE OCCURRED IN THE MORNING VS THROUGHOUT THE DAY. THE VEHICLE WILL BE TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,000 AND THE BEGINNING RENTAL MILEAGE WAS 99,386.
2005 FORD ESCAPE. FORD DEALER SERVICE FOR OIL CHANGE, ROTATE TIRES AND BRAKE INSPECTION NOTED FRONT BRAKE PADS NEEDED REPLACED. DECLINED SERVICE, (PRICE) ABLE TO CHANGE FRONT PADS OURSELVES. WE COULD NOT REMOVE WHEEL LUG NUTS. (THE SAME DAY) CHECKED TORQUE AND FOUND DEALER HAD OVER TIGHTENED THE LUG NUTS TO OVER 150 LBS. WITH MUCH EFFORT REMOVED LUG NUTS AND CHANGED FRONT BRAKE PADS. RETURNED TO DEALER TO COMPLAIN AND REQUEST ALL NEW WHEEL STUDS. ALTHOUGH THEY COULD NOT REMOVE THE REAR LUG NUTS WITH THE WRENCH SUPPLIED WITH THE ESCAPE THEY DENIED REPLACING THE WHEEL STUDS. I BELIEVE THE FAILURE WITH WHEEL STUDS ON FORD PRODUCTS IS A DEALER SERVICE PROBLEM. QUESTION: HAVE THE FAILURES ALL HAPPENED AFTER DEALER SERVICE? *KB

WHILE ON FREEWAY FORD 2005 ESCAPE WITH 49,000 MILES HAD SUDDEN AND COMPLETE TRANSMISSION FAILURE. CAR LOST POWER AND WAS A SAFETY ISSUE GETTING IT OUT OF FAST MOVING TRAFFIC AND ONTO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. CAR NEEDED A COMPLETE TRANSMISSION REBUILD. *TR

WAS PURCHASED USED AT A FORD DEALER SHIP IN 2007 4X4 HAS NOT WORKED. TOOK IT BACK WAS TOLD THAT THE COMPUTER SAID IT WAS OK AND THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. THE REAR WHEELS DO NOT PULL WHEN FRONT SPINS CAR IS DEAD IN DRIVE WAY AT PRESENT STILL OWE 7000 ON IT. FORD SHOULD BE MADE TO REPAIR AT THEIR ON COST. THIS CAR IS JUNK AND WILL NEVER OWE ONE AGAIN. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR REPAIR AND HE OBSERVED THAT FOURS TIRES EXHIBITED SEVERE TREAD SEPARATION AND CRACKING. THE TIRES ARE IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPLACED DUE TO THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE CONTACT HAS PICTURES OF THE DEFECTIVE TIRES. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 99,000. THE 2.3 LT THAT WAS IN THIS BEGAN USING OIL AROUND 75000 MILES AND THE DEALER DONE ALL THE OIL CHANGES SINCE IT WAS NEW.. THEY COULD NOT FIND WERE IT WAS GOING.. WE'LL AFTER ABOUT 3 YEARS OF CONSTANTLY WATCHING THE OIL,, IT FINALLY LET GO. THE MOTOR WAS JUNK NO GOOD. PUT A DIFFERENT MOTOR IN IT WITH AROUND 50000 MILES.. WELL THAT ONE DID NOT MAKE IT TO A 100000 MILES.. I TAKE CARE OF MY AUTOS, SO I KNOW HOW TO TAKE CARE OF THINGS.
RECENTLY TOOK VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE. MENTIONED TRANSMISSION SHUDDER AT 55MPH OR WHEN OVER DRIVE TOOK OVER. THEY FLUSHED THE TRANSMISSION AND UPDATED THE PCM AND SAID IT WAS FIXED. A WEEK LATER THE FORD ESCAPE IS SHIFTING HARD AND SHUDDERING INTO OVER DRIVE GEAR AT 45MPH. NOW THEY WANT TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION FOR $3800. I SEE WHERE MANY OWNERS ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THIS TRANSMISSION. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 FORD ESCAPE (4WD), NOT THE HYBRID. I HAVE APPROX. 63,000 MI ON IT NOW. THREE TIMES SINCE I'VE OWNED IT THE CAR HAS SUDDENLY STARTED ACCELERATING ON IT'S OWN. THE LAST TIME WAS APPROX. THE DATE BELOW, AND THAT WAS THE ONLY TIME I WAS USING THE CRUISE CONTROL. ONE TIME I WAS IN TOWN AND LUCKILY THERE WASN'T ANYONE CLOSE IN FRONT OF ME. SO FAR BRAKING, OR PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR HAS "RESET" IT, BUT NOW SEEING THIS PROBLEM WITH THE TOYOTA'S I'M CONCERNED. I E-MAILED FORD ABOUT THE PROBLEM, HOWEVER I KIND OF GOT THE BRUSH-OFF, AND THEY JUST SAID IF I WAS CONCERNED I SHOULD TAKE IT TO MY DEALER AND HAVE IT CHECKED. I KNOW A "CHECK" WOULD COST ME A LARGE AMOUNT OF MONEY FOR AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM FOR WHICH THEY WON'T FIND THE PROBLEM. I JUST WONDER IF YOU'VE HEARD OF ANYONE ELSE HAVING THIS PROBLEM? THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE SHEET METAL HAD ALSO BECOME COMPLETELY CORRODED DUE TO RUST. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 30,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 72,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. A MONTH LATER, WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE RPMS INCREASED, BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT MOVE FORWARD. SHE PUSHED THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD AND NOTICED THAT THE OVERRIDE LIGHT BEGAN FLASHING ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. SHE RESTARTED THE ENGINE AND DROVE FOR A BLOCK, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE ANY FURTHER. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS COMPLETELY BLACK. THE MECHANIC FURTHER STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT THE PRIMARY CAUSE OF THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, IT ENDED UP BEING AFFECTED. THROUGH RESEARCH, THE CONTACT FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FOR THIS SAME FAILURE. SHE BELIEVES THAT A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 72,000. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO FUEL THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE WOULD ACCEPT THE FUEL BUT THE PUMP WOULD TURN OFF ALTHOUGH THE TANK WAS NOT FULL. THE FAILURE WAS INTERMITTENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VENT LINE WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE; THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT THAT TIME. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FUEL TANK WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AGAIN WHERE IT WAS REPAIRED AGAIN. THE FAILURE PROGRESSED AFTER THE LAST REPAIR. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO TOOK A COMPLAINT AND ADVISED HIM THAT SOMEONE WOULD CALL HIM BACK. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE ENGINE COMPLETELY STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE ONE OF THE SIX COIL PACKS WAS REPLACED IN THE ENGINE. THE FAILURE CONTINUED AFTER THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES. A TOTAL OF EIGHT ENGINE COIL PACKS HAD BEEN REPLACED ON THE VEHICLE. ALSO, THE MAIN COMPUTER AND ONE SPARK PLUG WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALER. THE CONTACT HAD CONCERN OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
THE DRIVER'S FRONT DOOR BEGAN CAUSING PROBLEMS. OCCASIONALLY, IT DOES NOT OPEN, PERIOD. ADDITIONALLY, THE LOCK MECHANISM IS INOPERABLE. I REMOVED BOTH DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER'S FRONT DOOR PANELS TO INSPECT, COMPARE AND FINALLY DETERMINE THE ISSUE. THERE SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM, WHICH A FRIEND TEMPORARILY FIXED. IT--THE EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE--AFTER TWEEKING, WORKED FOR A WHILE. FAST FORWARD, 2015, I CANNOT OPEN NEARLY 3 OF MY DOORS. ONE WILL NOT OPEN AT ALL (REAR PASS.) THE DRIVER'S FRONT DOOR IS DOING THE SAME THING THE REAR DOOR HANDLE--IT LOST TENSION AND WON'T OPEN AT ALL. AFTER LOOKING IT UP ON YOUTUBE, I DETERMINED THE LOCKING SYSTEM IS THE CULPRIT. IN ORDER TO REPAIR THIS INOPERABLE DOOR HANDLE SITUATION, APPARENTLY I NEED TO PULL THE INTERIOR PANELS, REMOVE THE EXTERIOR HANDLES AND REPLACE THEM ENTIRELY. CURRENTLY, I HAVE THE DRIVER'S DOOR PANEL REMOVED BECAUSE IN THE EVENT THE HANDLE DOESN'T WORK AT ALL, I'D HAVE TO CLIMB OVER FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE JUST TO DRIVE MY 2005 FORD ESCAPE.

IT SLIDES AFTER YOU'VE PRESSED THE BRAKES AND THE ABS OVERRIDES YOUR BRAKING. 3. NO REPAIR HAS BEEN UNDERTAKEN YET. *TR

I HAVE PREVIOUSLY SENT IN A COMPLAINT ABOUT THE TRANSMISSION OF MY 2005 ESCAPE I PURCHASED FROM THREE OAKS FORD IN 8-2005. THE DANGER INVOLVED IN THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTING HARD IS BEING HIT FROM THE REAR. WHEN IT SHIFTS FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE IT JERKS EXTREMELY HARD AND DOESN'T ENGAGE ENOUGH TO CONTINUE FORWARD. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 35-40 MPH, BOTH THE PASSENGER AND DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED WITHOUT AN IMPACT OR CRASH OCCURRING. THE CONTACT SUFFERED MINOR BURNS ON HER WRIST. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER AND A CLAIM WAS FILED WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. ON 3/17/2009, AFTER WASHING THE VEHICLE AT A CAR WASH, THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT CAME ON. THE VEHICLE LATER STOPPED RUNNING AND WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY HAD IT FOR 3 DAYS AND SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. WE WERE CHARGED WITHOUT PRIOR NOTIFICATION. ON 9/01/2010, THE FUEL FILTER WAS REPLACED AT THE SAME DEALERSHIP. ON THE WAY HOME, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO OVERHEAT. IT STOPPED RUNNING IN TRAFFIC AND WE WERE ALMOST HIT. IT WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER ON 9/07/2010 TO BE LOOKED AT AT THE ADVICE OF FORD. THEY FOUND A FAULTY WATER PUMP, REPLACED IT AND A FILTER, AND WE WERE TOLD THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED. ON 9/09/2010, THE VEHICLE ONCE AGAIN OVERHEATED, STRANDING US AGAIN. IT WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER, WHERE THEY RESET THE COMPUTER AND AGAIN TOLD US IT WAS FIXED. ON 11/23/2010, IT WAS RAINING AND AGAIN THE VEHICLE STALLED, BUT WE WERE ABLE TO RETURN HOME. ON 12/17/2010, THE REPAIR ENGINE SOON LIGHT CAME ON, AND WE HAVEN'T DRIVEN IT SINCE.

NO MAJOR EVENTS LEAD UP TO THE INCIDENT. THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT. IT WAS DISCOVERED AT THE DEALERSHIP THAT THE PLANETARY GEAR WAS DESTROYED, AND IS ATTRIBUTED TO CAUSING ALL OTHER ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED ON A FLATBED TRUCK, AND NOW, THEY ARE GOING TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. OLD PARTS ARE AVAILABLE. *TR
THERE WERE NO EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE BREAKDOWN. THE CAR SIMPLY QUIT RUNNING. IT HAD FIRE BUT WOULD NOT TURN OVER. WE HAD NO PROBLEMS PRIOR TO THIS. WE TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALER. THE FIRST PROBLEM THEY TOLD US WAS THAT THE CHIP IN THE KEY WAS BAD. THE HAD A NEW KEY MADE. FROM THERE, IT WAS THE PCM COMPUTER AND THEN A SECOND COMPUTER AND THEN 3 POWER PACKS. THEY ALSO REPLACED THE PLUGS AND WIRES AND MISC. OTHER PARTS. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 FORD ESCAPE AND FOR THE LAST 6 MONTHS OR MORE THERE HAS BEEN A PROBLEM WITH PUTTING GAS IN THE VEHICLE. I CAN ONLY PUT IN APPROX. $2 AT A TIME IF NOT LESS BEFORE THE NOZZLE CLICKS OFF. I SEARCHED THE INTERNET TO FIND THAT OTHER OWNERS OF MY VEHICLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. ONE PERSON POSTED THAT FORD INFORMED HIM THAT THERE COULD BE A SPIDER IN THE GAS LINE AMONGST OTHER EXCUSES. IN THE END, HE POSTED THAT THERE WAS NO RESOLUTION TO HIS PROBLEM AND IT STILL TAKES APPROX. 15 MINUTES TO FILL THE TANK. WHEN I CALLED FORD, THEY TOLD ME THE SAME THING ABOUT THE SPIDER AND INFORMED ME THAT THERE WOULD BE A $106 CHARGE TO SIMPLY LOOK AT THE VEHICLE. KNOWING THIS CHARGE AND THE FACT THAT OTHERS HAVE POSTED THAT EVEN AFTER THEIR VEHICLE WAS LOOKED AT IT STILL HAS THIS PROBLEM, I DECIDED TO NOT HAVE IT LOOKED AT. TODAY, AGAIN, IT TOOK ME OVER 10 MINUTES TO FILL THE GAS TANK AND GAS CONTINUOUSLY SPILLS OUT ONTO THE CAR AND IT CONSTANTLY CLICKS OFF. IT IS GETTING VERY ANNOYING. *TR

THE DEFROSTER HAD BEEN ON, BUT I HAD PHYSICALLY TURNED THE DEFROSTER OFF ABOUT 5 MINUTES BEFORE THE 'EXPLOSION'. I HEARD A HORRIBLE NOISE AND WAS COMPLETELY SHOCKED TO SEE THERE WAS VERY LITTLE OF MY REAR WINDOW LEFT. WHAT?!!?! HOW COULD SUCH THINGS HAPPEN? AND WHAT A MESS! THERE WAS GLASS EVERYWHERE, PAINT HAD BEEN CHIPPED, THE SHOCKS WERE HANGING OUT, THE WIPER AND MOTOR WERE AT AN AWKWARD ANGLE...THINGS WERE DANGLING EVERYWHERE. UNFORTUNATELY, IT WAS A SUNDAY AND NOTHING WAS OPEN TO HELP WITH THE REPAIR UNTIL MONDAY. SO FAR, MY INSURANCE COMPANY HAS BEEN SOMEWHAT HELPFUL, BUT I'VE STILL HAD TO PAY OUT OF POCKET TO GET MY VEHICLE REPAIRED. WHY DO I EVEN NEED TO PAY ANYTHING FOR SOMETHING I DID NOT CAUSE?? I WAS ON MY WAY TO CONNECTICUT FROM MAINE ON 12/24/08. I NOTICED THAT WHILE WE WERE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY THE CAR STARTED RUNNING ROUGH AND SKIPPING. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER TO THE BREAKDOWN LANE WHERE THE CAR STALLED. THE CAR WOULD START BUT NOT KEEP RUNNING. CALLED AAA AND HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALERSHIP IN PLAINFIELD CT. VEHICLE COULD NOT BE IMMEDIATELY REPAIRED DUE TO THE HOLIDAY. THE CAR WAS REPAIRED ON DEC. 26, 2008. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE POWER CONTROL MODULE AND ALSO REPLACED 2 IGNITION COILS # 2 AND 3. COULD NOT SAVE PCM BECAUSE THERE WAS A CORE CHARGE FOR IT, BUT I DO HAVE THE IGNITION COILS. VEHICLE HAD 38,711 MILES WHEN THIS HAPPENED. THEN ON MAY 17, 2009 THE #5 COIL FAILED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. I STILL HAVE THAT COIL ALSO. THE DEALER SAID THAT THE COILS WERE NOT WARRANTIED UNDER THE EMISSION CONTROL WARRANTY WHICH IS 5 YEAR 50,000 MILES. THE REPAIRS DONE IN CT TOTALED $729.48. THE SUBSEQUENT REPAIR WAS DONE BY ME. THE COST OF THE COIL WAS $79.99. *TR

SUSTAINED MINIMAL DAMAGE ($5000.00). IT TOOK 3 WEEKS TO FIX, WHICH WAS NO BIG DEAL. YESTERDAY, 10-4-08, WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, MY ESCAPE WAS RUNNING FINE UNTIL I TURNED AND STARTED TO ACCELERATE TO GET UP TO SPEED (40MPH), MY ESCAPE TOOK THE PEDAL FROM MY FOOT AND LOCKED IT TO THE FLOOR, I HAVE BEEN ASKED BY SEVERAL PEOPLE IF I ACCIDENTALLY HIT THE CRUISE, AND ALL I REPLY WITH IS "IT DOESN'T HAVE CRUISE!" AS MY CAR STARTED TO SPEED UP I TRIED TO STOP, MY BRAKES WOULD ONLY KICK BACK OUT AT ME AND SINCE I WAS JUST IN A WRECK I WAS A LITTLE SCARED. I TURNED INTO A PARKING LOT AND DROVE IN CIRCLES UNTIL I COULD FIGURE OUT HOW TO STOP IT. I TRIED MY EBRAKE BUT IT DIDN'T WORK, I TRIED PULLING THE PEDAL UP, NO GOOD, I TRIED PUNCHING THE PEDAL WITH MY FOOT, NO GOOD. I DIDN'T WANT TO DO ANY DAMAGE TO THE TRANNY SO I DIDN'T TAKE IT OUT OF GEAR, FINALLY I DECIDED TO TRY SHUTTING IT OFF, IT SHUT OFF AND IS RUNNING FINE NOW. I AM CERTAIN THAT THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM MAINLY BECAUSE I HAVE READ ALL OF THE POSTINGS FOR THIS CAR AND FOUND THAT MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING PROBLEMS IN THIS AREA. YOU CAN BE CERTAIN THAT IF THIS HAPPENS AGAIN AND THERE ISN'T ANYTHING DONE TO FIX IT, I WILL GET RID OF IT AND STOP BUYING FORDS ALL TOGETHER. I WAS DRIVING MY CAR AND IT SHUT OFF FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I BARELY MADE IT TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AS TO NOT CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. BUT THE SPARK PLUGS WERE FINE. I REPLACE THE IGNITION COILS AND SPARK PLUGS. THE CAR STILL WILL NOT START THEY ARE ADAMANT THAT I REPLACE THE PCM. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH ON THE COMPUTER AND SPOKE TO A FEW DIFFERENT LOCAL MECHANICS. IT SEEMS THAT MY AUTOMOBILE IS NOT THE ONLY THAT HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM. ONE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT FORD ACTUALLY USES A DIFFERENT IGNITION COIL PART NUMBER NOW. I LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THAT FORD SHOULD STEP UP AND HAVE A RECALL FOR FAULTY PARTS. THEY CONTINUALLY TELL ME THAT IT IS NORMAL FOR THE PCM TO FAIL AT TIMES. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE. SO THAT THEY CAN CONTINUE TO MAKE MONEY. *TR

IF STILL ON FREEWAY, WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND UNABLE TO RESTART. HAD TO HAVE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP DUE TO COMPUTER SHUTDOWN AFFECTING SPARK PLUGS AND COILS. WHEEL BEARINGS STARTED TO FAIL @35,000 MILES.DEALER SAID NOISE WAS HALF SHAFT BEARING AND REPLACED IT.THEY SAID NOISE AFTER REPAIR WAS ROAD NOISE AND 18,000 MILES LATER THE WHEEL BEARINGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THE NOISE WAS GONE.SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED AT 35,000 MILES AND BEEN UNDER WARRANTY BUT INSTEAD WE HAD TO PAY $700 OUT OF POCKET DUE TO POOR JUDGEMENT ON DEALER MECHANIC. *TR
