TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. IN ADDITION, THE OVERDRIVE WARNING LIGHT AND THE EMISSIONS WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE O2 SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED AND THE TRANSMISSION FLUID NEEDED TO BE CHANGED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000.
VEHICLE GOT VERY LOOSE AND LOST CONTROL DUE TO REAR STRUT MOUNT RUSTING ALL THE WAY APART AND NO CONTROL OF REAR SUSPENSION. *TR
WE PURCHASED A 2006 FORD ESCAPE FOR OUR DAUGHTER THAT IS IN COLLEGE. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAD AROUND 92,000 MILES ON IT WHEN WE PURCHASED. UPON BRAKING, THE VEHICLE WILL SHUDDER AND CUT OFF. SHE IS ABLE TO PUT IT IN PARK, RESTART THE VEHICLE AND CONTINUE ON. THERE IS NO RHYME OR REASON BEHIND WHEN THIS OCCURS. SHE LIVES IN AN EXTREMELY BUSY AREA AND THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS FOR HER. MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE DRIVEN THE VEHICLE AND HAVE HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN. OUR MECHANIC IS TELLING US THAT HE IS ALMOST POSITIVE IT IS THE TORQUE CONVERTER. (OF COURSE, WE HAVE LEFT IT WITH HIM FOR OVER A WEEK AND HE HAS DRIVEN IT EVERYWHERE AND IT WILL NOT MESS UP) AFTER HEARING THIS, I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH ON IT. WHY IS FORD NOT DOING A RECALL ON THIS? THIS SEEMS SO BE A VERY COMMON ISSUE. IS IT GOING TO TAKE SOMEONE GETTING INJURED OR WORSE BEFORE THEY TAKE ANY ACTION? *JS
WHEN IT GETS BELOW 40 DEGREES OR SO MY GAS PEDAL WILL STICK IN A CLOSED POSITION. YOU HAVE TO PRESS VERY HARD ON THE PEDAL FOR IT TO ALLOW THE CAR TO MOVE HOWEVER THERE IS A LARGE THRUST FORWARD/BACKWARD DUE TO OPENING THE THROTTLE SO QUICKLY. I HAVE NEARLY HIT 2 CARS AND ALMOST BEEN HIT SEVERAL TIMES BECAUSE THE CAR WILL NOT GO. I HAVE SPOKE. WITH FORD AND THEY STATE THAT THERE IS NO RECALLS REGARDING THE ISSUE AND THAT THERE ISN'T ANYTHING THEY CAN DO TO ASSIST. I DO KNOW THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE SAME ISSUE ON THE 2001-2004 AND 2007 MODEL OF THE ESCAPE FOR THE SAME ISSUE. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH A FEW OTHERS WHO EXPERIENCE THE SAME ISSUE AND THERE ARE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS HAZARD AND COULD COST SOMEONE A LIFE IF THE PROBLEM ISN'T CORRECTED. IT OBVIOUSLY HAS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH THE MODEL ITSELF. IT HAS NEVER HAPPENED TO ME SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR THIS PAST SPRING FROM MY MOTHER, WHO ALSO SAID SHE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
I WAS SITTING AT A DRIVE THROUGH AND VEHICLE STARTED SPUTTERING. HAD TO KEEP FOOT ON GAS TO KEEP THE VEHICLE RUNNING. WHEN I WENT TO PULL OUT ON THE STREET, THE VEHICLE STALLED OUT. AFTER 4 OR 5 ATTEMPTS AT RESTARTING, IT STARTED ABOUT 20 MIN LATER. *TR
I WAS DRIVING HOME GOING ABOUT 45MPH AND ALL OF A SUDDEN I HEAR A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE LEFT REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THOUGH IT COULD HAVE BEEN THE TIRE, SO I PULLED OVER TO CHECK AND THE SHOCK IS COMPLETELY RUSTED AND APART. *TR
MY BACK WHEEL WELL HOUSING HAS RUSTED AWAY ON MY ESCAPE 2006 I HAVE BEEN WAITING TWO MONTHS FOR FORD TO SEND THE PART THEY RAISED THE PRICE FROM 160 DOLLARS TO 707 DOLLARS IN THOSE TWO MONTHS HOW CAN THEY DO THAT WHEN THE PART WAS FAULTY TO BEGIN WITH WHY IS THE GOVERNMENT NOT PROTECTED THE CONSUMER FROM THIS TYPE OF FRAUD FROM FORD. *TR
THE RIGHT REAR FENDER WELL OF MY VEHICLE IS BROKEN AND CRACKED WHERE THE SHOCK MOUNTS AT THE TOP. THEREFORE, THE SHOCK IS BASICALLY ATTACHED TO NOTHING MORE THAN SOME BROKEN PIECES OF THE FENDER WELL. THE SPRING IS THE ONLY THING GIVING THE VEHICLE ANY SUPPORT ON THE RIGHT REAR TIRE AND IT MAKES AN ABDOMINAL NOISE WHEN GOING OVER THE SLIGHTEST BUMP. FORD HAS REFUSED TO REPLACE THE PART AND UPON FURTHER RESEARCH, HAS TOLD MANY OTHER OWNERS OF THIS MODEL ESCAPE THE SAME THING. I UNDERSTAND THAT RUST HAPPENS, BUT THIS IS QUITE CLEARLY A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT. *TR
THE VEHICLE SLIPPED IN TO THE NEUTRAL POSITION BUT WAS STILL IN DRIVE AND TRANS DOESN'T ENGAGE CORRECTLY. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY AND THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN. THE DASH SHOWED A WARNING STATING SOMETHING TO THE EFFECT OF 'STOP SAFELY NOW'. I STEERED THE CAR TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AND TRIED TO RESTART IT AND NOTHING HAPPENED. I WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND THE CAR STARTED. IT HAS RUN FINE SINCE THEN. THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED A NUMBER OF YEARS AGO WITH THIS SAME VEHICLE. I WOULD BE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND THE CAR WOULD JUST STOP. AFTER A FEW MINUTES IT WOULD START AGAIN. SOMETIMES IT WOULD HAPPEN TWICE WITHIN AN HOUR AND THEN THERE WOULD BE NO INCIDENCES FOR WEEKS TO MONTHS AND THEN IT WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN. A MECHANIC REPLACED AN ELECTRICAL COMPONENT AND IT APPEARED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED UNTIL THE INCIDENT ABOVE. I AM THE SOLE DRIVER OF THE CAR AND THE ORIGINAL OWNER. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 14V526000 (HYBRID PROPULSION SYSTEM) AND STATED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE DEALER DID NOT PROVIDE A SPECIFIC DATE FOR WHEN THE PARTS WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE TO SCHEDULE THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND COULD NOT PROVIDE AN ESTIMATED DATE FOR WHEN THE PART WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE THE FAILURE IN WHICH THE VEHICLE WAS EXTREMELY SLOW TO PICK UP SPEED UPON PRESSING THE ACCELERATION PEDAL. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE HIGH MOTOR TEMPERATURE AND STOP VEHICLE SAFELY WARNING LIGHTS DISPLAYED AS THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE MOTOR ELECTRONICS COOLANT PUMP WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 114,000.
THE RIGHT REAR FENDER WALL HAS TOTALLY RUSTED OUT TO THE POINT THE SHOCK IS NOT EVEN ATTACHED TO THE FRAME. INTERNET SEARCH HAS SHOWN THIS IS HAPPENING ON MANY MANY OF THESE 2004-2006 FORD ESCAPES. WE WE'RE LUCKY TO DISCOVER THE DEFECT BEFORE SOMEONE WAS HURT. *TR
DRIVING IN ROUTINE TRAFFIC WHEN THE CAR APPEARED TO SHIFT TO OVERDRIVE THEN LOST ALL FORWARD DRIVE. AFTER ABOUT TWO MINUTES, THE TRANSMISSION TRIED TO ENGAGE, AND THEN LOST ALL DRIVE AGAIN ALL RECOMMENDED SERVICE HAD BEEN COMPLETED AND THE VEHICLE GAVE NO EARLY INDICATION OF FAILURE. WE CONTACTED FORD WHO SAID THEY HAD NO RECALLS AND THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. COMMENTS BY THE DRIVER OF THE TOWING SERVICE SUGGESTED OTHER ESCAPES IN THE AREA HAVE HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS. FURTHER RESEARCH SUGGESTS THIS MAKE AND MODEL HAS BECOME INFAMOUS FOR TRANSMISSION FAILURE AT APPROXIMATELY THE SAME MILEAGE. *TR
I HAVE OWNED THIS CAR SINCE 2006 WHEN I BOUGHT IT NEW. AFTER ABOUT FOUR YEARS THE BATTERY PACK BLEW AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. IT WOULD HAVE COST $4000 BUT THANKFULLY I HAD PURCHASED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND IT WAS COVERED. ON SEPT. 20, 2014 THE CAR THREW A ROD AND THE ENGINE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED. THE MECHANIC SAID IT WOULD COST $5000 TO FIX IT WITH A REBUILT ENGINE BUT THAT IT WASN'T WORTH IT BECAUSE THE ENGINES FOR THESE CARS ARE NOTORIOUSLY UNRELIABLE AND IT WOULD PROBABLY JUST FAIL AGAIN. IT WAS RECOMMENDED THAT WE SCRAP THE CAR. THE ENTIRE LIFECYCLE OF THIS VEHICLE WAS ONLY 8 YEARS WHICH IS ABSOLUTELY PREPOSTEROUS. CARS SHOULD LAST LONGER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE INTERIOR LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AND THE HORN ACTIVATED INDEPENDENTLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE AUTOMATIC BRAKING SYSTEM ENGAGED INDEPENDENTLY. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE SHOOK VIOLENTLY. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE FRONT TONE RINGS WERE CRACKED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION SEIZED AND THE OVERDRIVE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 126,000.
APPROXIMATELY 8-9 MONTHS AGO I FELT LIKE THE MASTER CYLINDER WAS GOING OUT IN MY 2006 ESCAPE HYBRID. I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL SHOP THAT I TRUST A FEW DAYS LATER AND THE MECHANIC DROVE IT AND THOUGHT IT WAS OK SO NO REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. HOWEVER, AT THIS TIME HE DID NOT PERFORM ANY SORT OF A COMPUTER DIAGNOSTIC TEST BECAUSE HE FELT THE BRAKES SEEMED OK. FAST FORWARD TO APPROX. 8/17/14, I PULLED INTO MY GARAGE AND BEFORE I TURNED MY CAR OFF BOTH THE LED MESSAGE BOARD INDICATED AN ISSUE NEEDED ATTENTION (CAN'T RECALL EXACT WORDING) AND THE RED BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ON THE DASH LIT UP INDICATING THE BRAKE UNIT NEEDED SERVICE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE SAME MECHANIC AND HE PERFORMED A COMPUTER DIAGNOSTIC TEST. HE GOT BACK TO FOLLOWING: "BRAKE SYSTEM DIAGNOSTICS CODE: C1471 HIGH PRESSURE ACCUMULATOR VOLUME CONSUMPTION PLAUSIBILITY FAILURE. RECOMMEND REPLACEMENT OF THE MASTER CYLINDER FIRST AND RECHECK SYSTEM. IF CODE RETURNS THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED." THE COST TO PERFORM THIS WORK IS NEARLY $8,900.00 AND ALMOST ALL OF THAT CHARGE IS FOR REPLACING THESE TWO DEFECTIVE PARTS, NOT LABOR. THE COST TO REPLACE THE FAILING HYDRAULICS EXCEEDS THE BLUE BOOK VALUE OF THE VEHICLE ALSO. THIS VEHICLE HAS ONLY 91,589 MILES ON IT AND THE WHOLE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM IS FAILING. I CHECKED OUT VARIOUS INTERNET BOARDS AND IT LOOKS LIKE MY PROBLEM IS THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM SCORES OF OTHERS HAVE EXPERIENCED, AND MANY OF THEM RIGHT AT THE SAME APPROX. MILEAGE INTERVAL. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY 2006 FORD HYBRID ESCAPE ON THE HIGHWAY, THE ABS AND PARKING BRAKE LIGHTS CAME ON AS WELL AS A WARNING ALARM SOUNDED. THE BRAKES WENT COMPLETELY OUT, AND I HAD TO PUSH THE BRAKE PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR BEFORE I COULD SLOW DOWN. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IN ABOUT 3 MONTHS THAT THIS EVENT HAS OCCURRED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING OVER A BUMP AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE CONTACT HEARD A KNOCKING NOISE NEAR THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL WELL WAS RUSTED AND CAUSED THE STRUT MOUNT TO SEPARATE FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN INDICATED THAT THE WHEEL WELL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,000.
TRAVELING HOME ON THE INTERSTATE AT ABOUT 70MPH AND THE MOTOR SHUT OFF, GIVING ME A 'STOP SAFELY NOW' WITH THE RED TRIANGLE LIGHT ON. I STOPPED, WAITED A FEW MINUTES ON THE ROADSIDE AND IT STARTED AGAIN. HEADED HOME AGAIN, WHEN ABOUT A MILE AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN. WAITED A FEW MINUTES BY THE ROAD, THEN TOOK OFF. THIS TIME I TURNED OFF THE A/C AND MADE A FEW MILES TO THE HOUSE. *TR
LOUD BANGING SOUND FOR REAR OF CAR. ON INSPECTION THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL WELL HAD RUSTED THROUGH INCLUDING THE SUPPORT FOR THE REAR SHOCK ABSORBER. THE SHOCK ABSORB PUNCHED ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE WHEEL WELL, AND WAS UNSUPPORTED, HITTING THE METAL OF THE INTERIOR. *TR
THERE SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH BEING ABLE TO OPEN MY TRUNK DOOR. A WHILE AGO, SOMETHING LIKE AUGUST 2014, I WENT TO OPEN THE TRUNK TO PUT GROCERIES IN AND IT WOULDN'T OPEN. TRIED LOCKING AND UNLOCKING AGAIN. NOTHING WORKED. SO I WENT A FEW WEEK WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO OPEN THE TRUNK. ONE DAY I DECIDED TO TRY IT AGAIN AND IT WORKED. BUT NOW, JANUARY 2015, I TRIED OPENING MY TRUNK THE OTHER DAY TO TAKE THE GROCERIES OUT OF THERE AND IT WOULDN'T OPEN AGAIN. I STILL CANT OPEN IT SO I THINK IM GONNA HAVE TO TAKE IT TO A MECHANIC. ALSO THE HANDLE ON THE REAR RIGHT DOOR SEEMS TO BE LOOSE. *TR
MY CAR HASN'T HAD ANY OTHER SYMPTOMS AND WAS WORKING FINE. ON 7/21/14 I WAS DRIVING AT 40 FOR MAYBE 5 MINUTES WHEN THE "SAFETY ALERT" LIGHT CAME ON AND WAS PROMPTED TO PULL OVER SAFELY. I WAS IN THREE LANES OF TRAFFIC, GOING UP A LARGE HILL AND WAS DOING MY BEST TO MAKE IT OVER TO THE SHOULDER BUT THE CAR WAS NOT ACCELERATING ABOVE 20 AT THIS POINT AND WAS GETTING SLOWER AND SLOWER. I MADE IT OVER ONE LANE AND THE CAR COMPLETELY STOPPED AND STARTED ROLLING BACK A LITTLE. THE CAR NEVER TURNED OFF THOUGH AC, LIGHTS, RADIO, ETC STAYED ON BUT NOTHING WOULD HAPPEN WHEN I PRESSED ON THE GAS. I TURNED THE CAR OFF FOR A FEW MINUTES AND TURNED IT BACK ON AND IT WORKED NORMALLY FOR ABOUT A MINUTE AND THEN THE SAME THING HAPPENED. I GOT THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS QUOTED AROUND $800 TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE. FORD HAS RECALLED OVER HALF MILLION VEHICLES FOR SIMILAR ISSUES WITH THE THROTTLE, INCLUDING MANY ESCAPES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE PARKING, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THE TORQUE SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THERE WAS A MANUFACTURERS RECALL RELATED TO THE FAILURE HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
CAR HAD BEEN PARKED AT AIRPORT PARKING LOT FOR A MONTH. WHEN RETRIEVING IT UPON RETURN BRAKES FAILED, ABS AND BRAKE SERVICE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON, AND PEDDLE WENT TO THE FLOOR. WE PARKED THE CAR IN THE LOT, RENTED A CAR TO GET HOME. NEXT MORNING WE ARRANGED AAA TO TOW VEHICLE. WHEN TOW OPERATOR CAME THE VEHICLE BRAKING SYSTEMS WAS PERFECTLY FINE. WE CHOSE TO PAY HIM AND DRIVE THE CAR HOME. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER AND EXPLAINED THE ISSUE. THEY NEVER ACKNOWLEDGED ANY UNDERSTANDING OF THIS PROBLEM. THEY REPLACED REAR BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS BECAUSE THERE WAS ALSO LOUD BRAKE NOISE. NOW ONE YEAR LATER, JULY 27 2015, [97000+ MILES] SLOWING FOR A RIGHT TURN ON A RURAL HIGHWAY AND THE BRAKE SYSTEM FAILED AGAIN. WITH NO WARNING THE PEDDLE WENT TO THE FLOOR. WITH A CONCERTED EFFORT I WAS ABLE TO SLOW THE VEHICLE AND MAKE THE TURN WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE ABS LIGHT AND SERVICE BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS WERE LIT. CONDITION PERSISTED AS WE CONTINUED A FEW MILES TO THE SHOPPING PLAZA. AFTER SHOPPING WE DECIDED TO RETURN DIRECTLY HOME, BUT WHEN CAR WAS STARTED THE FAULT HAD CLEARED AND THE BRAKES FUNCTIONED NORMALLY. WE HAVE JUST SPENT THE MORNING SEARCHING INTERNET AND FIND THIS IS AN ISSUE FORD KNOWS ABOUT AND IS DENYING TO ACKNOWLEDGE. AND APPARENTLY IT IS VERY EXPENSIVE TO RESOLVE WITH THE NEED TO REPLACE THE HCU. WE NOW UNDERSTAND WHAT THE PROBLEM IS BUT ARE AMONG THE MANY WHO FEEL THIS IS CERTAINLY A SERIOUS ENOUGH SAFETY ISSUE FORD SHOULD PARTICIPATE IN ITS RESOLVE FOR OWNERS WITH DEFECTIVE BRAKE SYSTEMS. AS I GOT HOME I TRIED TO UNBUCKLE THE SEATBELT AND IT WOULD NOT RELEASE. MULTIPLE TRIES STILL DIDN'T HELP. I HAD TO PULL REALLY HARD TO GET IT TO RELEASE AND HURT MY HAND. WE WERE DRIVING EAST ON I-26 IN SOUTH CAROLINA AT 65 MPH IN 3 LANES OF TRAFFIC WHEN THE TRIANGLE HAZARD WARNING LIGHT ON THE DASH SOUNDED AND LIT UP SAYING "PULL OVER SAFELY NOW". AT THE SAME TIME , WITH THE GAS PEDDLE FLOORED, THE SPEED OF THE CAR WAS SLOWING BY THE SECOND! THE GAS PEDDLE DID NOT WORK. WE WERE ABLE TO PULL OVER AND TURN THE CAR OFF WITHOUT GETTING HIT BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC. PER THE MANUAL, WE WAITED AWHILE AND RESTARTED THE CAR, AND WERE ABLE TO GET IT HOME. I CALLED THE FORD CUSTOMER CARE LINE TO ASK IF IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE THE CAR AND WOULD THIS HAPPEN AGAIN. THEY WERE NOT HELPFUL AT ALL. THEY BASICALLY TOLD ME TO TAKE IT TO A DEALERSHIP. OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP SAID THEY KNEW NOTHING ABOUT THE ISSUE I DESCRIBED, BUT DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS BEING AN MECS PUMP FAILURE FOR $135. THE REPLACEMENT COST WOULD BE $800. DUE TO THE HIGH COST QUOTE AND KNOWING THAT IT ONLY TAKES 45 MINUTES OR LESS TO CHANGE THIS PUMP, WE TOOK IT ELSEWHERE. THE PART IS $277. OUR CONCERN IS THAT HOW COULD FORD DEALERS NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS DANGEROUS DEFECT, WHEN IN 3 SECONDS YOU CAN PULL UP HUNDREDS OF WEBSITES COVERING THIS FAILURE, AND THE DANGEROUS AND POTENTIALLY FATAL ACCIDENT IT COULD CAUSE. MY 06' HYBRID ESCAPE COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN, IT JUST GAVE ME A " PLEASE PULL OVER NOW". I ALMOST CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT ON I44 AT 75MPH BECAUSE OF ALL POWER LOSS. WHEN I WAS ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY I LET IT SIT FOR LIKE A MINUTE AND THEN RESTARTED THE ENGINE AND IT DROVE A GOOD 5 MINUTES AT ABOUT 60 MPH BUT AS SOON AS I ACCELERATED ABOVE 60 IT GAVE ME THE SIGN AGAIN, AND I HAD TO REPEAT THE PROCESS. I DROVE IT HOME ON THE ACCESS ROAD STAYING BETWEEN 30-40 AND THANK GOD, IT MADE IT HOME. *TR

RESEARCH INDICATED A FAILED OEM MECS COOLANT PUMP (TSB 08-24-5), AND WE HAD ISSUES GETTING THE CORRECT PART FROM FORD DEALER 1 AND SOURCED A DORMAN PART FROM THE LOCAL X AUTO PARTS STORE, SUPPLYING IT TO AN ASE-CERTIFIED SHOP FOR INSTALLATION (VEHICLE INOPERABLE/ON A LIFT). ANOTHER 'STOP VEHICLE SAFELY' EVENT OCCURRED 6.24.14 WITH MY FAMILY IN THE VEHICLE ON AN EXPRESSWAY ENTRANCE RAMP, WITH THE ESCAPE TAKEN TO FORD DEALER 2 FOR EVALUATION. I ADVISED FORD THAT PEP BOYS HAD ADVISED ME THERE WAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN (TSB) ON INTERMITTENT BRAKE LOSS FOR 2006 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID. THE FORD REPRESENTATIVE IMMEDIATELY SNAPPED BACK AT ME "THAT DOESN'T MEAN ITS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY?" I THEN SAID, I CARE ABOUT MY SAFETY AND WANT TO KNOW WHY OUT OF THE BLUE MY BRAKES FAILED. WHEN I WENT BACK TO SEE IF THEY FOUND A PROBLEM, THEY STATED EVERYTHING WAS IN NORMAL WORKING ORDER AND THERE WERE NO CODES IN THE SYSTEM TO INDICATE BRAKE FAILURE. *TR

INFORMED BY OUR MECHANIC THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE AND WE WOULD NEED TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE BODY SHOP. WHEN WE CONTACTED THE BODY SHOP AND SAID WE HAD AN ISSUE WITH THE UNDER BODY ON OUR FORD ESCAPE HE NEW IMMEDIATELY THAT IT WAS THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL WELL BECAUSE IT WAS THE 3RD FORD ESCAPE WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM IN LESS THAN 2 MONTHS. WE WERE FORTUNATE THAT WE ONLY HAD TO WAIT 3 DAYS FOR THE PART AS WE WERE TOLD THAT THE LAST 2 FORD ESCAPE OWNERS HAD TO WAIT 6 WEEKS BECAUSE THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER FROM FORD. LOOKED ONLINE AND THERE WERE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS FOR FORD ESCAPE WITH EXACT ISSUE (ALWAYS ONLY THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL WELL) FROM 2004 ON. OBVIOUSLY THIS IS A RECALL ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESS BY FORD BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. *TR

FORTUNATELY, I WAS TRAVELING ON THE LEFT LANE AND SAFELY MOVED TO THE LEFT CURB AND WITHIN SECONDS THE ENGINE DIED. I KEPT TRYING TO START BUT NO SUCCESS. WHILE ON THE PHONE WITH THE INSURANCE COMPANY FOR A TOW TRUCK, I TRIED AGAIN, AND THE ENGINE RESTARTED. I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING HOME FOR ABOUT 25 MINUTES, APPROXIMATELY 15 MILES. WHILE APPROACHING A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE "STOP SAFELY NOW" MESSAGE APPEARED AND THIS TIME THE CAR DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET. THIS TIME, IT DIED WITHIN 3 SECONDS AFTER THE MESSAGE APPEARED. IT WAS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD WHEN OTHER CARS WERE APPROACHING AND WITH VERY LITTLE ROOM TO STOP AND REACT. THIS WAS IN A 35 MPH RESIDENTIAL ZONE. I HAD TO CALL A LOCAL POLICE DEPARTMENT TO ASSIST MANAGING THE TRAFFIC. AFTER ABOUT 15 MINUTES, I WAS ABLE TO START THE CAR AGAIN AND CONTINUED THE LAST 2 BLOCKS TO MY RESIDENT. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN MULTI CARS ACCIDENT HAD I NOT HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO DRIVE TO THE CURB BEFORE IT STOPPED. *TR
