THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED AS NEEDING A NEW STEERING COLUMN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING); HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000. UPDATED 08/02/16*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED AFTER THE STEERING COLUMN WAS REPLACED, SHE HAD TO PURCHASE A THROTTLE CONTROL AT A COST OF $800, BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN.
CAR WONT START, THE (STOP SLOWLY NOW) APPEARS ON DASH SCREEN . IT ATTEMPTS TO START THEN IT IS KILLED, THEN THE STOP SLOWLY NOW WARNING COMES UP..IT HAS DONE THAT WHILE WE ARE DRIVING TO. WE HAVE REPLACES HYBRID COOLING PUMP WE WERE TOLD THAT IS THE PROBLEM. FIXED IT NOW IT IS WORST
AT A STOP SIGN THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO SHIMMY ABOUT A QUARTER OF AN INCH AFTER ABOUT TWO HOURS IT BEEPED THEN TEN MINUTES LATER I SHUT OFF MY VEHICLE AND AN HOUR LATER WHEN I STARTED THE VEHICLE IT CAME UP WITH A POWER STEERING FAULT ON THE DASH AND IT HAS NOT WORKED SINCE THIS HAPPENED ON MAY 7TH 2016
WHEN STARTING TO ACCELERATE FROM A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE ENGINE RACED TO OVER 4K RPMS AND THE CAR WAS BARELY AT 20 MPH. NO ACCELERATION AND THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS LIT ON THE DASH. RPMS RANDOMLY FLUCTUATED AND ONLY AFTER REACHING 3,500 RPMS WOULD THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT GEARS. AFTER SHUTTING THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTING THE WRENCH LIGHT IS GONE BUT RETURNS AFTER A MINUTE. 105,000 MILES.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
COMPLETE POWER STEERING LOSS AFTER RECALL PERFORMED. WHILE TURNING A RIGHT HAND CORNER AT 50MPH ALL POWER STEERING FAILED MAKING IT NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER VEHICAL OTHER THEN STRAIGHT ON ACROSS LANE.. THIS FAILURE CAUSED ME TO ALMOST HIT ANOTHER VEHICAL HEAD ON THANKFULLY THE OTHER CAR WAS PAYING ATTENTION AND AVOIDED ME DUE TO FACT I COULD NOT STEER AND NO HARM BROUGHT TO MY 2 CHILDREN.. CALLED FOR DEALER AND WAS TOLD RECALL WAS PROFORMED AND THE FAILURE WAS MY PROBLEM NOT THERES. AT A BILL OF OVER $3000.

THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 118,888. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
I NOTICE ABOUT A WEEK AGO THAT A WRENCH LIGHT SIGNAL CAME ON MY DASH. I CHECKED MY OWNERS MANUAL AND GOOGLE THE INFORMATION AND THEN I CHECK TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL. I CAN FEEL MY CAR DOING A PULL WHEN I TRY TO ACCELERATE AND WHEN ON THE FREEWAY I AM NOT GETTING NOT POWER IT SEEMS LIKE I AM MOVING SLOWER THAN WHAT MY SPEEDOMETER SAYS, I SEE THAT THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE BUT NOT FOR MY VIN NUMBER. I GUESS I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW CENTAIN VIN # AN BE EXCLUDED FROM A RECALL BUT YOU HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. THIS IS THE SAME THING THAT HAPPEN ABOUT 1YEAR AGO TO MY POWER STEERING THERE WERE RECALLS BUT NOT FOR MY VIN. I WAS OUT $1000.00 . NOW I HAVE I HAVE GET THIS FIXED AND MY MECHANIC CAN NOT DO IT BECAUSE HE SAID SOMETHING ABOUT YOU NEED A COMPUTER AND I NEED TO TAKE BACK TO FORD WHICH IS GOING TO COST AND ARM AND A LEG. I AM SO DONE WITH FORD I HAVE ALWAYS HAD FORD CARS/TRUCKS BUT I AM AT MY END WITH THEM.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN A CITY STREET MY TRUCK BEGAN REVVING AS IF IT WERE TRYING TO CHANGE GEARS OR ACCELERATE WITHOUT MY ADDING ANY ADDITIONAL PRESSURE ON THE GAS PEDAL. AT ONE POINT I HAD TAKEN MY FOOT COMPLETELY OFF THE GAS PEDAL AND IT WAS REVVING UP. THIS OCCURRED ABOUT 3 TIMES OVER THE COURSE OF A HALF MILE APPROXIMATELY. ONCE I ENTERED MY SUBDIVISION EVERY TIME I CAME TO A STOP SIGN AND MADE A STOP MY TRUCK WOULD GET "STUCK". I WOULD PRESS THE GAS PEDAL IN AN ATTEMPT TO DRIVE FORWARD AND THE TRUCK WOULD NOT MOVE. THE VEHICLE WAS IN DRIVE AND REMAINED RUNNING AND NEVER SHUT OFF. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO DRIVE FORWARD TO NO AVAIL I HAD TO PLACE THE GEAR IN PARK AND MANUALLY TURN OFF MY TRUCK AND RESTART IT AND PLACE THE GEAR BACK IN DRIVE IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO MOVE FORWARD. THIS HAPPENED 3 TIMES IN MY SUBDIVISION AFTER COMING TO A STOP. UPON FINALLY MAKING IT TO MY DRIVEWAY I PLACED THE GEAR IN REVERSE IN AN ATTEMPT TO BACK INTO MY DRIVEWAY AND THE TRUCK BEGAN DRIVING FORWARD INSTEAD. I HAVE NOT DRIVEN MY TRUCK SINCE THIS HAPPENED AS IT IS VERY UNSAFE TO OPERATE. I ALSO HAVE NOT YET HAD IT SERVICED BECAUSE I HAVE SEEN ON THE NEWS THAT FORD HAS A RECALL COMING ON SOME VEHICLES DUE TO TRANSMISSION ISSUES THAT SOUND LIKE WHAT I HAVE EXPERIENCED SO I AM WAITING TO GET NOTICE OF THE OFFICIAL RECALL LIST TO SEE IF MY MAKE AND MODEL ARE INCLUDED.
AFTER TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP TO RESOLVE RECALL 14S05 VIA A SOFTWARE UPDATE. THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURS RESULTING IN VIBRATIONS IN THE STEERING COLUMN AND LOSS.OF POWER STEERING ASSIST. DEALERSHIP CONTENDS THAT THE ISSUE WAS CLOSED VIA THW SOFTWARE UPDATE AND NOW SAYS THAT MUST PAY OUT OF POCKET TO REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN. I DO NOT FEEL THAT FORD HAS ADEQUATELY ADDRESSED THE UNDERLYING ISSUE WITH THE SOFTWARE UPDATE AS I AVE RESEAECHED AND FOUND NUMEROUS REPORTS OF THE SAME ISSUES AFTER THE UPDATE WITH FORD REFUSING TO OWN UP TO THE ISSUE.

THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY SERVICED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING) HOWEVER, FAILED TO REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS INFORMED THAT THE PSCM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,000.

A WRENCH WARNING SIGN.
TRANSMISSION - THE SERVICE WRENCH DASH LIGHT CAME ON AND THE TRANSMISSION STARTED TO SHIFT BADLY. A QUICK TRIP TO THE FORD SERVICE CENTER INDICATES THAT GEARS 2 & 4 NEED TO BE REPLACED (AT 71,000 MILES). FORD HAS ISSUED A TSB ON THE PROBLEM, AND THERE ARE MULTIPLE POSTS ON THE INTERNET CONCERNING THIS ISSUE. THIS NEEDS TO BE UPGRADED TO A WARRANTY RECALL AS IT DOES EFFECT THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE.

THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY FORCE TO THE STEERING WHEEL IN ORDER TO STEER THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY UPDATED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
I HAD THE RECALL ISSUE FOR THE POWER STEERING ADDRESSED AND WAS TOLD IT ONLY NEEDED A SOFTWARE UPDATE. 5000 MILES LATER THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO SHAKE CONSTANTLY WHILE PARKED OR MOVING. NOW MY WIFE LOST TOTAL POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING. WE CALLED THE DEALER WHO GAVE US THE SOFTWARE UPDATE AND WE WERE TOLD THERE IS NOTHING ELSE THEY CAN DO TO FIX THE PROBLEM WITHOUT US PAYING FOR IT.
WRENCH LIGHT APPEARS ON LOWER LEFT DASH. CAR HAS A DIFFICULT TIME GETTING INTO GEAR. SLOW TO ENGAGE, THOUGH HIGH RPM. HAPPENS WHILE IN MOTION. OR TAKING OFF FROM A STOP.
MY IGNITION, SOME TIMES IT STARTS, SOME TIMES I HAVE TROUBLE STARTING IT, OTHER TIMES IT DOESN'T START AT ALL.!!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED INDEPENDENTLY. THE CONTACT DID NOT SUSTAIN ANY INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 133,000.

THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN WITH CAUTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING ANGLE SENSOR WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 158,000.
2008 FORD ESCAPE FAILED TO ACCELERATE WHILE MAKING TURN INTO TRAFFIC. EXAMINATION REVEALED SIGNIFICANT LEAK OF TRANSMISSION FLUID FROM TRANSMISSION FLUID COOLER RESULTING IN "SLIPPAGE" OF TRANSMISSION. INVESTIGATION OF ISSUE FOUND THAT LEAKAGE WAS A CRACKED TUBE AT RIGHT HAND MOUNTING BRACKET OF TRANSMISSION FLUID COOLER. THIS CONDITION IS COVERED BY FORD CSP 09B10, BUT HAD NOT BEEN BROUGHT IN FOR MITIGATION BY PREVIOUS OWNER. FORD HAS EXPIRED CSP 09B10 AS OF AUGUST 2010, EVEN THOUGH THE CONDITION APPEARS TO BE A CERTAINTY (BASED ON ABUNDANT INTERNET COMMENTARY) RELATIVELY EARLY IN MILEAGE LIFE OF VEHICLE (MY ESCAPE HAS VERY MODERATE MILEAGE). RAPID AND UNEXPECTED CHANGE IN TRANSMISSION PERFORMANCE IS A SAFETY ISSUE, AND SHOULD BE SUBJECT TO APPROPRIATE RECALL AS OPPOSED TO A "FIX-IT" BULLETIN. FORD HAS INDICATED THAT THEY WILL NOT PROVIDE REMEDIATION OF THIS PROBLEM.
I HAD RECALL FOR ELECTRIC POWER STEERING COMPLETED IN DECEMBER 2015, AND THEN IN JANUARY 2016 MY STEERING WHEEL STARTED VIBRATING/LOCKING. IN APRIL POWER STEERING WENT COMPLETELY OUT. I TOOK VEHICLE IN AND ASKED IF POWER STEERING WAS RELATED TO THE RECALL AND HE SAID NO IT WAS A SEPARATE SENSOR THAT WAS CAUSING THE POWER STEERING TO GO OUT. SO, I GAVE PERMISSION FOR THE WORK TO BE COMPLETED. THEN, I STARTED RESEARCHING AND FOUND THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING TO MANY PEOPLE. I HAD MY BOYFRIEND CALL BACK AS HE KNOWS MORE ABOUT CARS THAN I DO AND HE WAS TOLD AGAIN THAT A SENSOR NOT RELATED TO RECALL THAT WAS PERFORMED WAS CAUSING P.S TO GO OUT THAT WAS UNRELATED TO THE RECALL. WE GO TO PICK UP THE CAR AND PAY FOR IT AND WHEN WE ARE GOING OVER OUR PAPERWORK IN THE CAR WE FIND THAT THE WORK THEY DID WAS REPLACE THE TORQUE SENSOR WHICH IS PART OF THE RECALL. I CALLED THE OVERALL SERVICE MANAGER AND SPOKE TO HIM. I ASKED HIM IF I WOULDN'T HAVE BROUGHT IT IN DECEMBER WHEN I WAS EXPERIENCING NO ISSUES AND WOULD HAVE WAITED UNTIL APRIL WHEN MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT WOULD THE CODE (P2278) BE COVERED UNDER THE RECALL AND HE SAID YES, THAT I WOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THE WORK. THAT CODE WOULD CAUSE THEM TO REPLACE THE TORQUE SENSOR FREE OF CHARGE. SO I ASKED HIM IF HE WAS SUGGESTING THAT PEOPLE WAIT UNTIL THEY ARE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT SO THAT THE WORK WILL ACTUALLY BE COVERED? HE SAID NO OF COURSE NOT, BUT WHAT OTHER OPTION IS THERE? YOU TAKE IT IN WHEN THERE ARE NO ISSUES THEY UPDATE SOFTWARE, AND THEN WHEN YOU START HAVING ISSUES WITH TORQUE SENSOR OR STEERING COLUMN YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE BILL. WHAT OPTION ARE PEOPLE GOING TO TAKE? OBVIOUSLY, THEY ARE NOT GOING TO WANT TO PAY A 675 DOLLAR REPAIR BILL ON SOMETHING THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED BY A RECALL SO THEY WILL DRIVE UNTIL POWER STEERING GOES OUT WHICH IS NOT SAFE.
LOW SPEED TURNS, ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST FAILS TO ASSIST IN RETURNING WHEELS TO STRAIGHT AHEAD POSITION. WHEELS CAN BE BROUGHT BACK TO FORWARD POSITION WITH SOME EFFORT. HAPPENS CONSISTENTLY, EVERY DAY AT LOW SPEEDS WHEN THERE IS HIGHER TORQUE ON THE STEERING COLUMN.

WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST DEFAULT WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. PRIOR TO THIS FAILURE, THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED ACCORDING TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING) WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THEY PERFORMED A MINOR REPROGRAMMING OF THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 130,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE POWER STEERING SUDDENLY MALFUNCTIONED AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V28400 (STEERING) IN 2015, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED IN 2016. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 144,000.
WE TOOK OUR FORD MOTOR COMPANY 2008 ESCAPE TO THE DEALER FOR RECALL NHTSA 14V284000 OR FORD #14S05. THE DEALER REPROGRAMMED THE POWER STEERING MODULE. PRIOR TO THAT WE HAD NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER WITH THE STEERING. 4 MONTHS LATER THE STEERING HAS FAILED. FROM WHAT I AM READING AT SEVERAL LOCATIONS ON THE INTERNET THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. I AM ASKING THE NHTSA TO LOOK AT THIS PROBLEM CLOSER. MY OPINION IS THERE SHOULD BE AN ADDITIONAL RECALL THAT ADDRESSES THIS ISSUE. IF YOU'VE HAD A SIMILAR ISSUE I URGE YOU TO CONTACT FORD AND FILE A COMPLAINT AND CONTACT THE NHTSA AND VOICE YOUR CONCERN. I WAS TOLD BY FORD IT IS MY RESPONSIBILITY TO FIX THE VEHICLE AND THEY ARE OFFERING NO ASSISTANCE.

APPROXIMATELY 30 SECONDS LATER, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN AND FAILED. THE NEXT MORNING, WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, THE MAINTENANCE WARNING LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED PER A RECALL IN AUGUST OF 2014 FOR THE SAME ISSUE, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING TORQUE SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000.
WHILE SITTING IN A DRIVE THRU THE GAS PEDAL WENT FLAT TO THE FLOOR. HAD TOWED TO DEALER AND WAS TOLD THROTTLE CABLE BROKE.NEEDED REPLACED AND THROTTLE BODY,INJECTORS CLEANED. COST APPROXIMATELY $800.00. LOOKED ON INTERNET AND FOUND IT TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM. CALLED DEALER AND NO HELP. CALLED FORD CORPORATE AND THEY TOOK INFORMATION BUT WOULD NOT OFFER ANY HELP. IF THIS HAD BROKE WHILE DRIVING WE AND OTHERS ON THE ROAD COULD OF BEEN INJURED OR KILLED. THIS VEHICLE SHOULD BE IMMEDIATELY RECALLED IN MY OPINION. ALSO THIS FIX IS NO GUARANTEE IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN. NICE THOUGHT TO HAVE WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC.

BROUGHT TO DEALER, THEY ADVISED RECALIBRATION AND INTERNAL BLEED PROCEDURE, ABS MODULE REFLASH AND CALIBRATION, WHICH WAS PERFORMED AT A COST OF $221.49 ADVISED IF CODE RETURNS , HCU REPLACEMENT WILL BE NEEDED AT $5400.!!!! OUTRAGEOUS, THE CAR WAS BOUGHT NEW AND MAINTAINED METICULOUSLY. CAR NOW HAS 79,397 AND WE ARE DEATHLY AFRAID TO DRIVE IT AS THE BRAKES MAY FAIL. WHEN THE BRAKES FAILED THE CAR WAS RESTARTED ON THE PEAKING LOT AFTER BEING STOPPED FOR 15 MINUTES
WHILE DRIVING MY 2008 FORD ESCAPE ON THE HIGHWAY THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY, THEN SHORTLY AFTER THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM FAILED. I LOOKED INTO THIS ISSUE AND FOUND A RECALL FOR 2008-2011 FORD ESCAPE AND MERCURY MARINER MODELS HOWEVER AFTER CONTACTING FORD THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE VEHICLE HAD ALREADY BEEN PART OF THE RECALL AND THIS IS UNRELATED.
MY VEHICLE WAS DRIVING FINE WHEN IT STARTED CHIMING. I DIDN'T HAVE ANY IDEA WHY IT WAS MAKING THE NOISE. IT DID THIS 3 TIMES AND THEN A SMALL WRENCH SIGNAL SHOWED UP ON THE PANEL. I WAS DRIVING HOME WHEN ALL OF THIS HAPPENED. ALL OF A SUDDEN I HAD NO STEERING! SCARED ME TO DEATH. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT HOME, THANK GOODNESS! THERE ARE RECALLS ON THIS PROBLEM, BUT NOT MY VIN NUMBER!
MY CAR ALL OF A SUDDEN SHUTS DOWN DUE TO A "MOTOR ELECTRONICS COOLANT (MEC) PUMP" FAILURE, I READ ON THE INTERNET THAT FORD MOTOR CO HAS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM, HOWEVER WHEN I CALLED FMC THEY TOLD ME OVER THE PHONE THAT "ACCORDING TO MY VIN MY CAR DOES NOT FALL UNDER THE RECALL PROGRAM, MY CAR HAS BEEN DOING THIS FOR AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK AND I'M GETTING WORRIED ABOUT CAUSING AN ACCIDENT
ELECTRO-HYDRAULIC BRAKE (EHB) SYSTEM HAD A LEAK IN THE MASTER CYLINDER AND THE ABS BRAKES ENGAGED WHILE DRIVING CAUSING THE BRAKES TO SMOKE.
THE RECALL ISSUED IN MAY, 2014 FOR THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THE SENSOR FAILED AGAIN, AND THE REMEDY BY FORD LITERATURE TO THE DEALERSHIP WAS ERRONEOUS AND OVERLY COSTLY TO ME. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT DETECTED A FAULT CODE, B2278, AND THE REMEDY LISTED THREE REPAIRS IN SEQUENCE TO FIX. THE FIRST WAS THE SOFTWARE UPDATE PROSCRIBED IN THE RECALL BULLETIN. THAT PROCEDURE HAD BEEN COMPLETED BY A DEALER PREVIOUSLY. THE SECOND IN THE SEQUENCE WAS TO REPLACE THE SENSOR. DEALER FOLLOWED THIS AND THE FIX FAILED, CAUSING REPLACEMENT OF THE STEERING COLUMN, COSTING AN ADDITIONAL $1200 ON TOP OF THE $500+ FOR THE FIRST FAILED FIX. ATTACHED RECEIPT FOR ENTIRE REPAIR OF A RECALL THAT DIDN'T GET FIXED THE FIRST TIME.

JULY 2014 I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE REGARDING TORQUE SENSOR/STEERING COLUMN, I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP (STIVERS FORD/LINCOLN IN WAUKEE IOWA) WHERE THEY TOOK APPROX. 5 MINS TO DO WHATEVER IT WAS THEY WERE TO DO REGARDING THE RECALL. I WAS NOT HAVING ANY ISSUES WITH MY CAR AT THAT TIME. APPROX. 3 WEEKS AGO (MARCH 2016) I STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY STEERING WHEEL SHAKING AND MOVING BACK/FORTH AT ALL TIMES WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND WHEN IDLING, ON HIGHWAY AND STREETS AND BEING PARKED, ALONG WITH ODD NOISES WHEN DRIVING. I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN TO THE DEALERSHIP (STIVERS FORD/LINCOLN IN WAUKEE IOWA) YESTERDAY (MARCH 29, 2016) TO FIND OUT WHAT WAS WRONG, THEY DID A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND FOUND THAT I NEEDED A NEW TORQUE SENSOR AND STEERING COLUMN. I TOLD THEM ABOUT THE RECALL OF THE EXACT SAME ISSUE FROM JULY 2014, THE GUY IN THE SERVICE DEPT (STEVE) CALLED FORD MOTORS AND THEY TOLD HIM THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE COSTS. I CALLED FORD MOTORS TODAY (MARCH 30, 2016) AT THEIR RETAIL NUMBER, THE FEMALE TOLD ME THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE COSTS AND SAID THAT THE RECALL HAD EXPIRED AND I SHOULD OF HAD IT FIXED THEN. (THERE WAS NO ISSUES AT THE TIME OF THE RECALL WITH MY VEHICLE AND I DID TAKE IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP AT THE TIME I RECEIVED THE RECALL LETTER). FORD MOTORS KNEW/KNOWS OF THE DEFAULTING PARTS (HENCE THE RECALL IN 2014), THEY SHOULD COVER THESE PARTS NOW. MOST CARS DO NOT GO OUT RIGHT AT THE TIME OF A RECALL. HAD FORD RECALL #14V284000 (FORD #14S05) PERFORMED IN APRIL 2015 - WHICH COVERED POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE. WAS TOLD "NOTHING WRONG, UPDATED SOFTWARE". MARCH 2016 STEERING FAILED. DEALER DIAGNOSED AS FAILED TORQUE SENSOR WHICH SUPPOSEDLY IS ONE OF THE ITEMS COVERED UNDER RECALL. HOWEVER WAS TOLD THIS WAS NO LONGER COVERED UNDER RECALL - BECAUSE THE RECALL WAS "CLOSED OUT" ON OUR VEHICLE THE DAY THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG. CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE 1-800-392-3673 WHO SAID SAME THING. TOTAL SCAM! IF IT'S NOT BROKE THE DAY YOU TAKE IT IN THEN THEY DON'T REPLACE ANYTHING. WE HAD OUR VEHICLE RECALLED. WE TOOK IT TO TAYLOR FORD IN CHANDLER OKLAHOMA, TO HAVE IT SERVICED FOR THE STEERING PROBLEM. I WENT TO DRIVE THE CAR AND NOW THERE IS NO POWER STEERING. I HAVE READ SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS, THAT AFTER FORD HAD SO CALLED UPDATED THE PROGRAMING ON THE STEERING SYSTEM, THEY FAIL. SO INSTEAD OF REPLACING THE PARTS THAT NEEDED TO BE FIXED THEY UPDATE THE COMPUTER AND THEN WHEN DOWN THE ROAD, YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR THE PROBLEM YOURSELF. TAYLOR FORD TOLD MY WIFE THAT THERE WAS NOTING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THEY HAVE SINCE GONE OUT OF BUSINESS. HOW DO I GET THIS PROBLEM TAKEN CARE RIGHT THIS TIME. LSS..WHEN I TOOK THE 2008 FORD ESCAPE IN FOR THE RECALL I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT THE SENSOR WAS GOING TO BE REPLACED. HOWEVER THE FORD DEALER SAID THEY ONLY HAD TO REPROGRAM IT. THEN WHEN YOU TRY AGAIN IT WOULD START. I FEEL FORD TOOK ADVANTAGE OF ME. THEY HAD TO KNOW JUST REPROGRAMMING THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING WAS NOT ENOUGH. NOW I AM LEFT TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN TAKEN CARE OF WHEN I TOOK IT IN FOR THE RECALL. IT SEEMS LIKE 2 OR 3 MONTHS AFTER I GOT THIS ESCAPE PAID FOR IT WENT DOWNHILL. I HAVE HAD IT IN AND OUT OF THESHOP EVERY SSINCE.IT IS REPAIR AFTER REPAIR ON THIS VEHICLE. ITS HEARTBREAKING! ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU HAVE TO PAY OUT HUNDREDS AND EVEN OVER A THOUSAND FOR CONTINUOUS REPAIRS. THE CURRENT ISSUE WITH THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKEN WOULD HAPPEN SITTING STILL AT A LIGHT, ETC. ALSO THE PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE NOT WANTING TO START AND HAVING TO RETRY TO START THE VEHICLE HAPPENED WHEN YOU WOULD TRY TO START THE VEHICLE TO GO SOMEWHERE. THE ISSUE BEING HARD TO TURN HAPPENS WHEN YOU ARE TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT ON THE ROAD.

AFTER APPROX. 10 MINUTES OF STOP AND GO DRIVING AT <5MPH A TONE SOUNDED, A RED TRIANGLE LIT, AND THE LED INDICATED "STOP SAFELY NOW." THE ENGINE DID NOT STALL, SHUT DOWN, OR GIVE ANY OTHER INDICATION OF A FAULT, THEREFORE I CONTINUED DRIVING AT <15MPH TO THE NEAREST PARKING LOT AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. AFTER I RETURNED SEVERAL HOURS LATER THE ENGINE STARTED NORMALLY WITH NO FAULT INDICATION, AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME WITHOUT ANY FURTHER FAULT INDICATION. ONE COMPLAINANT INDICATED THAT THE 2008 ESCAPE HYBRIDS HAD BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS ISSUE, BUT THE RECALL DOES NOT SHOW ON YOUR, OR ON FORD'S, DATABASE FOR THIS VEHICLE.
