The contact's sister owns a 2010 Ford Escape. While the contact's sister was making a left turn at a stop light, the power steering assist failed with the "Steering Assist Fault Service Required" message displayed on the instrument panel. The contact's sister used excessive force to steer the vehicle off to the shoulder of the road and later managed to drive the vehicle to an independent mechanic. The independent mechanic diagnosed the vehicle with a defective steering column and the contact's sister was informed that the steering column needed to be replaced by a dealer. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact's sister that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V284000 (Steering). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact's sister was informed that the vehicle was previously repaired under the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 114,000.
Engine cradle rusted out. It was replaced and I have the old part. Problem was detected using the vehicle for a short drive at residential speed. If the part had failed on the freeway an accident may have occurred. Vehicle was left at a close by shop who confirmed part failure and warned vehicle could not be driven unless part replaced. Shop confirmed this is not uncommon. Called Ford Motor Company and was told to see my local dealer. Checked with dealer body shop. Body shop said never seen problem before. Parts confirmed common replacement part. Service would neither confirm nor deny quality of original part leading to failure. Concern is for younger drivers for whom this is a family hand me down.
The Front Engine Cradle sub frame is rusted out the same as the 2003-2005 escapes that were recalled
The component that failed was the "Engine Cradle". The front end of the vehicle was visibly sagging due to the failing engine cradle. The engine cradle was so severely rusted that the control arm could literally fall off vehicle while driving.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the power steering assist fault warning light illuminated. Power steering control assist went out. Daughter was driving the car n lost power steering! Contacted ford dealer n was told it isnt covered!
The Power steering control module failed on my Ford Escape 2010. I went to a Ford dealer in Lawton Oklahoma and quoted my for $3,000 to get it fixed. They said that the did not have the parts and did not have a date when the parts would come in since many people had the same issue and are waiting in the parts. This is a safety issue because the steering wheel gets stiff and can cause an accident when driving.
Power steering fault indicator is on and the is no power steering

The manufacturer was contacted and opened a case. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V284000 (Steering). The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.
2010 Ford Escape, Power Steering Assist failure. When making a turn, the power steering faults out and the vehicle becomes difficult to steer. The incident occurred on multiple occasions, usually while making a hard left turn, but has also occurred while in a roundabout. Each time the car becomes difficult to steer while turning causing a possible crash condition, very unsafe. Power steering assist fault appears on the dashboard message prompt. Took the car to a dealership and was informed that a torque sensor inside the steering column is bad and that the entire assembly needs to be replaced. Only 70,000 miles on the car.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, she became aware that the electronic power steering was not functioning properly, with the steering wheel requiring increased effort to maneuver the vehicle. The driver was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway, and upon restarting the vehicle, the vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the steering column. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, who was unable to confirm the diagnosis. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V284000 (Steering), but the VIN was not included. A tech showed me the frame under the car is rusted and presents that if I hit a bump I blow the front passenger tire off. Ford recalled 2001-2004 Ford escapes for this reason the metal that year rusts for those in salted road states I'm in Ohio. Ford also recalled other models for rusted frames in salted road states like Detroit. Other people in car websites also reported same issue one person on YouTube made a video about it.
vehicle getting stuck in park, I have press the brakes several times to get it to unlock and switch to drive, or push the emergency brake.

The power steering system in my 2010 Ford Escape keeps reverting to manual steering mode due to an Electric Power Steering system fault related to the torque sensor. In manual steering mode the vehicle is extremely difficult to control and is dangerous to drive. Looking at the history of this vehicle, the vehicle has had a history of this safety issue, but my VIN# was not part of the recall even though myself and others are experiencing the same issue. NHTSA needs to force Ford to fix the steering issue for free instead of charging $1500 just because drivers want to have steering 100% of the time they are driving it.
I don't even know where to start. Even with maintenance, this vehicle has been falling apart since I got it
2nd incident in approximately 1 year. Power Steering failed, is available for inspection. Accident possible loss control of steering. Inspected by mechanic. Heard bell, no dash lights, didn't know what was happening. Power steering assist fault shown after the fact.
My power steering keeps going in and out while I am driving. If I turn off the car and then turn it back on it comes back on but it is happening very frequently and will go out again as soon as I start driving. I was told that there is a recall for this and want more information. It is not safe.
I was park with the engine on, and the car started to making a chime noise. I looked at screen and it said power steering sensor fault. At that time when I attempted to drive home the car had lost power steering. When i would press on the gas it would be just a tiny bit easier. But on no or low speeds could barely turn the wheel. The vehicle is available for inspection. This issue could easily cause a accident. Since I lost all control of my vehicle I could hit another car, run off road and possibly hurt myself and other with me and around me. The car hasnt been inspected by anyone yet. I have an appointment on Wednesday for take the car dealership. There were no warnings that I noticed. Also no other light on the dash. The power steering like came on while parked. Than no power steering. All this happened at the same time. I do not know that there were any repairs done due to the fault I bought cat in 2018.
I had exhaust work done, 2010 Ford Escape, and shop pointed out huge rust hole in ''subframe'' (engine cradle) This has been hundred thousand recalls but NOT all model years, yet they ALL have the same fault. Ford recall only puts a cheap ''brace'' on it but it is NOT a repair!! What kind of country allows these maggots to threaten the driver with complete !! loss of steering control and yet not require repair for faulty frames? They did the half-ass repair on 2001 to 2004 but ALL years up to 2012 have this, and the ''brace '' in cheapo B S.

Power steering assist occasionally stops functioning and vehicle immediately and without warning requires extreme effort to turn the steering wheel. Vehicle has not yet been repaired and is available for inspection. There are no warning lamps or messages. Having vehicle switching between power steering and non power steering at random times may create a safety hazard for any driver who does not have the strength to turn the steering wheel
1. Passenger side rear door child lock will not disengage. 2. Liftgate lock failed, and will not open.
On 8/17/2023 My daughter was on the highway and said she was having a problem after hitting a pothole. I told her to return home. Subframe Broke after hitting a second minor pothole on a side road close to my home. Passenger side tire (fell off?) was turned 90 degrees under the wheel well while the driver side tire was still pointing straight forward. About a 60 foot skid mark dragging the passenger tire at a 90 degree angle until she could pull the vehicle over. If this happened on the highway, I fear the worst would have happened to my daughter. Also, I see that the rear frame is rotted on both sides near the rear shocks.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford Escape. The contact stated that after stopping to refuel the vehicle, while driving out from the gas station at 10 MPH, the vehicle drove over a pothole; however, further down the road the vehicle started pulling and tugging. The contact drove the vehicle to the local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that subframe was fractured, the rack and pinion, and the passenger’s side control arm needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and was towed back to the residence. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 112,067.
The electronic power steering goes in and out making it very dangerous for driving
A/C drain line located above the crossmember(Engine Cradle-#9L8Z-5C145-A) caused it to prematurely rot on the passenger side of the vehicle. Issue was discovered during a routine oil change. Crossmember rot is directly above lower control arm attachment point. In the event of total failure, it would result in loss of control of the vehicle. The driver's side of the crossmember does not have any signs of corrosion.
My Spouse was lawfully driving at highway speed when the power steering suddenly quit working. This caused an abrupt slowing to a safe stop at the roadside without any steering assist. My spouse was unable to safely continue driving due to inability to operate the steering. My chief concern is under other circumstances this steering failure could have caused a serious accident involving other drivers, maybe even death. The vehicle continues to be inoperable due to the power steering failure.
I was sitting at a red light with my foot on the brake. I was behind another car when all of a sudden I hear a chime looked at my cluster and it said "check brake system" and my car was rolling forward. I could feel I still was pressing on the brake and wasn't sure what to do so I put the car in park. Once the light changed I turned into the side street and when braking realized that while my brakes were slowing down the car they were not stopping it as normal. I made my way carefully to my mothers home as I was on my way to drop her off when it occurred. While driving I realized I could still stop the car with the brakes but I needed to put more force than usual and the brakes had more resistance. The car also did not stop smoothly but more like hard braking. Once I arrived at her home I turned off and on the car and it was still displaying the check brakes. I turned off the car again and pulled on the emergency brake release just in case and when I turned on the car everything worked as normal. I had the car towed home and had a mobile mechanic come and check it out. For him the car worked fine and no codes displayed in his system. I have contacted my local dealership and Ford Twitter to seek help. As of now my dealership hasn't contacted me after 24 hours and the Twitter account states they will look into it. Searching online there appears to be many other instances reported similar to mine. Possibly related to the Ford Fusion brake recall NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V904000. This car was purchased used but has been taken care of and had regular maintenance at both a local shop and Ford. I've never experienced this before but am extremely hesitant to drive now as I don't want to cause an accident or be stranded somewhere. If this is indeed related to the Fusion campaign there should be a recall as all other incidents reported were also for a 2010 Ford Escape Hybrid.
Sometimes when braking, brakes fail to engage. ABS light come on to check sys. I’ve had ABS Sys checked could not find any problem
The evaporative emissions canister purge control valve is making my car jerk when accelerating and does not make my car run correctly. This causes an “rubber” smoke smell and could end up causing more issues down the line. The muffler and exhaust, a/c condenser does not function properly
UNKNOWN Passenger side rear quarter panel rusting above tire well. No other rust on vehicle. In review of online complaints this is common for Ford Escape’s 2008-2012.
Had an alternator problem , had vehicle towed to garage for repair. When I picked the owner of the garage there is significant rust to the suspension. I inspected the damage my self and found the "suspension part" that holds the strut was just about rusted through. I researched the web and found out that there were plenty of others who have the same
Rear frame over rear tires, rusting through frame, I was told by collision shop that the 2008 through 2012 has this problem and Ford motor company has done nothing to fix this problem. It is a safety problem and everyone knows about it and nothing has been done. If this area breaks the driver can lose control and kill someone, I don't think this problem should be ignored any longer. I've kept my escape in mint condition and just found out about this problem. I hope you can look into this and resolve the problem before someone dies because of it. Thank you From: Coy Tidwell

I was making a left turn from a complete stop across traffic, and my steering wheel would not turn. I almost got hit by a car, and had to reverse quickly to keep from being hit. I was able to man handle the steering wheel to get home. I had it towed to the local dealership, and they told me it was electrical parts that would cost over $4k to repair. The dealership would not give me specifics on the issues, and i've been trying to reach them all day to get a print out, so I can have a private mechanic look at it. The dealership told me that the steering recall had been fixed way back in 2014 before I took ownership of the car, but I can't find that proof anywhere. The car is running just fine other than that. I did notice after I got two new tires a few months ago, that when I got up around 80mph on the interstate, the car would shake a lot. I had to slow down to around 70mph to keep it from shaking.

while driving my vehicle and exiting the expressway making a left-hand turn approximately 35mph suddenly my steering became extremely hard to turn, and I almost crashed into another vehicle. On the dash the power steering assist fault warning light alerted me. extremely hard to turn the vehicle at lower speeds and dangerous.
The electronic steering system failed on Interstate 71 southbound. The system completely failed, the instrument panel gave a trouble code. The vehicle almost caused a result on account of the failure. I don't understand how my vehicle is exempt from this recall....the same junk parts are installed in the 2010 model that I own. Makes no sense if Ford or NTSB actually cared about public safety.
I was driving at a speed of less than 40mph. I was going around a curve and the wheel felt as though it yanked from my hand to the right and I went into the ditch and up the embankment. I was unable to control the wheel. I came to a stop partially on my side due to the steep incline. Due to the snow and ice in the ditch, many components under my right side were broken and torn off making it difficult to see all the damage. My car was totaled. Police responded and I was helped out of my vehicle. The tow company came and towed it. No warning lights were on. I am very lucky to be alive- if I had been going any faster I would likely have rolled my vehicle due to the lack of control I had of the wheel and tires. It felt as though it was "slippery" under my grip, like the wheel wasn't controlled tightly by my steering. I was not majorly injured but am very sore and will need continued chiropractic care of my neck and right hip and shoulder.
Available for inspection upon request. Front SUB- FRAME RUSTED IN 2 ON RIGHT LOWER SIDE. Right lower control arm bushing pulled out of arm. Driving on highway car without warning jerked off the road. Could have killed everyone in the car had it collided with anything. Car is completely in drivable because it is not safe. Problem has been confirmed. No there was not any warning lights or warning. I was told by a ford mechanic that there is no way that this car should have a subframe rust through.
