TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP, THE SERVICE ENGINE AND CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AS THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE REACHING THE CONTACT'S DESTINATION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A MECHANIC AND WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY THE 2010 FORD ESCAPE NOT ONCE BUT MULTIPLE TIMES WOULD GO TO IDLE AND RUN ROUGH WHILE TRAVELING ON DIFFERENT ROADS AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS. THE GAS PEDAL WOULD DO NOTHING TO MAKE THE CAR GO BUT IT WAS IDLING ROUGH AND COASTING CAUSING US TO STOP ON THE SIDE OF VERY DANGEROUS ROADS. WE WOULD TURN IT OFF AND LET IT SIT FOR A FEW MINUTES AND THEN IT WOULD START NORMAL. THE GAS PEDAL WOULD WORK AGAIN BUT REPEAT THE SAME PROBLEM 5 TO 10 MINUTES LATER. WE WERE CERTAINLY GLAD THIS DID NOT HAPPEN ON THE INTERSTATE IN FRONT OF AN 18 WHEELER OR WE WOULD BE DEAD. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THE THROTTLE BODY IS BAD. THE CAR IS ONLY 2,000 MILES OUT OF WARRANTY FROM THE STANDARD BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY, THE EXTENDED POWERTRAIN WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER THE PART. SO WE ARE OUT ALMOST $400 FOR A PART THAT SHOULD NEVER FAIL TO BEGIN WITH. *TR
ON 30 DECEMBER 2012 AT APPROXIMATELY 5 PM I WAS DRIVING MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE XLT ON US 61 IN PORT GIBSON, MS. I WAS TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED WHEN THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN UNEXPECTEDLY. I GLANCED DOWN TO OBSERVE THE GAUGES AND DISCOVERED THE CRUISE CONTROL HAD CEASED FUNCTIONING AND THE TROUBLE LIGHT (SHAPED LIKE A WRENCH) HAD ILLUMINATED. I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND THE ENGINE FAILED TO RESPOND. I PULLED TO THE SHOULDER AND SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE. AFTER CHECKING UNDER THE HOOD FOR ANY LOSS OF FLUID OR OBVIOUS MECHANICAL FAILURE I COULD DETECT NOTHING INDICATING A MAJOR MECHANICAL FAILURE. I RESTARTED THE ENGINE AND OBSERVED THE GAUGES NOTING THE TROUBLE LIGHT WAS NO LONGER PRESENT. THINKING THE PROBLEM MAY HAVE BEEN A TEMPORARY ISSUE, I AGAIN PROCEEDED TO TRAVEL UPON THE HIGHWAY FOR APPROXIMATELY 100 YARDS AND AGAIN THE SAME TROUBLE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND I LOST THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE AFTER REACHING AROUND 45 MPH. I AGAIN PULLED OVER, SHUT OFF THE ENGINE, AND RESTARTED. I MANAGED TO TURN AROUND AND GO HOME, BUT NOT BEFORE I HAD THE SAME FAILURE OCCUR APPROXIMATELY 4 MORE TIMES AT 65 MPH. I CONTACTED FORD ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND THE VEHICLE IS BEING TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP IN VICKSBURG, MS, 35 MILES AWAY. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THE VEHICLE HAS EXHIBITED ANY DEFECTS SINCE I PURCHASED IT IN JUNE, 2012 WITH APPROXIMATELY 33,000 MILES ON IT. I FEEL THIS VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO BE OPERATED UPON THE ROADS AND COULD ENDANGER MY FAMILY'S SAFETY AS WELL AS OTHER MOTORISTS. *TR
DECEMBER 28 ,2012- WHILE TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 65MPH MY 2010 ESCAPE ENGINE CUT OFF. I FINALLY GOT TO EMERGENCY LANE AND THE SUV WAS IDLING ROUGH. I CUT THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTED IT IN A FEW MINUTES.I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP TODAY. THEY RAN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND NOTHING WAS WRONG. THEY OFFER TO DRIVE IT TO SEE IF IT WOULD CUT OFF AGAIN. I HAVE ALWAYS BOUGHT TOYOTA BUT THOUGHT I WOULD BUY FORD THIS TIME. THEY ARE DEFINITELY A PROBLEM SO FORD STAND BEHIND YOUR PRODUCT AND FIX IT BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT OR KILLED. *TR
WHILE PARKED I SHUT THE BACK HATCH AS NORMAL. UPON SHUTTING THE GLASS EXPLODED SHATTERING THROWING GLASS EVERYWHERE INCLUDING COVERING MYSELF, MY SMALL CHILD SITTING IN THE CAR, AND ACROSS THE ENTIRE STREET.
THIS IS THE 2ND TIME I HAVE TAKEN MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE IN FOR LOSING ACCELERATION, STALLING. THE ENGINE STILL RUNS BUT I AM UNABLE TO ACCELERATE. THE CAR BASICALLY WON'T RUN, BUT WILL START UP AGAIN. THIS IS A MAJOR HAZARD IF THIS WERE TO HAPPEN ON THE FREEWAY, OR WITH A HIGHER SPEED. IT GENERALLY HAPPENS AROUND 30 MILES PER HOUR. BACK IN DECEMBER, 2012 I TOOK IT IN TO BILL BROWN FORD AND THEY COULD NOT FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM, AND RETURNED THE CAR TO ME, SAYING IT DIDN'T HAPPEN TO THEM. AFTER EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM ON A DAILY BASIS ALL LAST WEEK I TOOK IT IN TODAY TO BIL BROWN FORD ON PLYMOUTH RD IN LIVONIA, MI. THEY TOLD ME BECAUSE I NO LONGER HAVE A WARRANTY ANYTHING THEY DO FIND I WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR. IT SEEMS LIKE WITH A SAFETY CONCERN LIKE THIS THEY WOULD FIX IT FREE OF CHARGE. SOMEONE COULD VERY WELL RUN INTO ME FROM BEHIND WHEN I LOSE ACCELERATION AND CANNOT RUN THE CAR. PLEASE I HOPE YOU CAN HELP AND HELP OTHERS EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM. I HOPE THEY ARE ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM TODAY AND WON'T CHARGE ME FOR IT. I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING TO THIS CAR. IT IS NOT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. IT SHOULD BE FIXED BY FORD BEFORE A CRASH HAPPENS. ALSO OF NOTATION IN CASE THIS HELPS I USED REGULAR GAS ONLY FROM DECEMBER, (AFTER THIS HAPPENED THE FIRST TIME), UNTIL LAST WEEK WHEN GAS PRICES WENT UP I SWITCHED TO E-85. WONDERING IF THIS MIGHT BE THE PROBLEM? I TRIED TO RUN THE GAS TANK DOWN BEFORE FILLING UP WITH REGULAR UNLEADED THIS WEEK AS I HEARD. *TR
WHEN CLOSING THE REAR HATCH OF THE 2010 FORD ESCAPE, THE GLASS SHATTERED. TEMPERATURE BELOW FREEZING AT THE TIME AND MATCHES TSB: TSB-11-2-9. NO REASON FOR THE GLASS TO BREAK AT ALL. GLASS SHATTERED AND CUT MY FINGER. SMALL CHUNK OF GLASS HAD TO BE REMOVED FROM FINGER. *TR
WITH NO WARNING, I WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE. CAR WENT INTO LIMP MODE. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER SAFELY. I AM THANKFUL I WASN'T TRAVELING AT A HIGHER RATE OF SPEED OR TRAVELING ON THE FREEWAY; THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS. DIAGNOSTIC LIGHTS ON DASH INDICATED SOMETHING WITH THROTTLE. WAS ABLE TO GET CAR HOME - VERY DIFFICULT. HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED. VERY EXPENSIVE CAR REPAIR, 208.00 PART (THROTTLE BODY) AND 190.00 LABOR. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE PARKWAY IN TRAFFIC THE VEHICLE LOST PROPULSION. I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD BEFORE BEING HIT BY CARS ABLE TO TRAVEL THE SPEED LIMIT. THIS HAS NOW HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES BOTH ON THE PARKWAY AND OTHER ROADS. *TR
MY REAR HATCH WINDOW JUST EXPLODED. I PULLED INTO THE CAR PORT AT THE AIRPORT FOR OUR CHRISTMAS FLIGHT HOME, TOOK LUGGAGE OUT THE BACK AND CLOSED THE HATCH AND BOOM GLASS EVERYWHERE. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS HURT BUT WHAT WAS I SUPPOSED TO DO? MISS OUR FLIGHT HOME FOR CHRISTMAS OR CALL A NEIGHBOR AT 8 AM TO COME SWAP OUT VEHICLES SO IT WOULDN'T BE VANDALIZED WHILE I WAS GONE. IT WAS IN THE UPPER 30S WHEN THIS HAPPENED, HOWEVER MY VEHICLE STAYS PARKED OUTSIDE SO IT WARMED UP GRADUALLY LIKE IT ALWAYS DOES. WE I GOT TO MY DESTINATION I CALLED MY FORD DEALER SINCE I BOUGHT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH I STATED THE NUMEROUS ARTICLES THAT I HAVE READ ABOUT THIS ISSUE. *TR
AT FREEWAY SPEED THE CAR LOST POWER. WE WERE ABLE TO PULL TO THE SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY. A SMALL WRENCH WARNING LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD. WE CHECKED THE OWNER'S MANUAL, AND IT REFERRED TO A "THROTTLE/POWER TRAIN" ISSUE AND TOLD US TO SEEK DEALER ATTENTION AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. THE ENGINE RESTARTED, SO WE CONTINUED OUR TRIP. WE STOPPED IN SULFUR SPRINGS, TX, AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP. THAT MORNING THE VEHICLE BATTERY WAS DEAD (WHICH WAS THE FIRST PROBLEM WE HAVE EVER HAD WITH THE VEHICLE), AND WE BEGAN OUR TRIP AFTER JUMP-STARTING THE CAR. I THOUGHT THE STALLING WAS RELATED TO THE BATTERY PROBLEM. THE EVENTS WERE EXPLAINED TO THE TECH, WE REPLACED THE BATTERY WHICH WE FELT WOULD ALSO SOLVE THE STALLING PROBLEM. THE STALL OCCURRED THE NEXT DAY, AND AGAIN ON OUR RETURN TRIP. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO OUR LOCAL FORD DEALER WHERE THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED. WE HAVE NOT, AS OF NOW, TESTED THE REPAIR AT FREEWAY SPEED, BUT WERE ASSURED BY THE DEALER THAT THE PROBLEM WAS SOLVED. *TR
I WAS DRIVING LIKE 25 MPH & SUDDENLY STEERING GOT LOCKED & I HAD TO STOPPED & I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE & RESTARTED AGAIN THEN IT WAS WORKING NORMAL.I AM AFRAID IF IT HAPPENS ON HIGHWAY. *TR
WHILE DRIVING TO WORK, GOING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, MY CAR EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER AND ACCELERATION. THE CAR DID NOT RESPOND WHEN I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL, AND THE ENGINE WAS SPUTTERING AND THE CAR WOULD BARELY MOVE FORWARD. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO A PARKING LOT AND SHUT THE CAR OFF. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A FORD DEALER, AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. I SOON FOUND OUT THAT MY THIRD PARTY WARRANTY DID NOT COVER THIS PART. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE WARRANTY DOESN'T COVER THE PART BECAUSE THEY KNOW IT IS GOING TO MALFUNCTION IN ALMOST EVERY FORD ESCAPE. SO I HAD TO PAY OVER $300 OUT OF POCKET TO GET A PART FIXED THAT THE DEALER KNEW WAS GOING TO BREAK! THIS IS RIDICULOUS! *TR
MY ESCAPE OFTEN STALLS, WITHOUT WARNING, WHILE COMING TO A STOP. THE BATTERY LIGHT COMES ON, I TURN OFF THE VEHICLE, THEN IMMEDIATELY RESTART IT WITHOUT PROBLEM. *TR
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING TO WORK DOWN A COUNTRY ROAD AT ABOUT 55 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ON. ALL OF THE SUDDEN SHE FELT THE CAR JERK AND A WRENCH INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON. THE CAR IMMEDIATELY STARTED TO DECELERATE. SHE WOULD PUSH ON THE GAS PEDAL AND NOTHING WOULD HAPPEN. LUCKILY THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC AROUND AND SHE WAS ABLE TO COAST INTO A DRIVEWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS BASICALLY ABOUT TO STALL OUT SO SHE TURNED IT OFF. AFTER 30 SECONDS SHE STARTED IT BACK UP AND IT STARTED FINE. TO BE SAFE WE HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP IT WAS PURCHASED FROM. THE DEALERSHIP SAID NO ERROR MESSAGE WAS IN THE COMPUTER SYSTEM. AFTER CONSULTING WITH FORD THE DEALERSHIP TOLD US THAT THEY WERE PRETTY SURE IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY THAT NEEDS REPLACED. WE HAVE NOT HAD THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACED DO TO THE FACT THAT THE NO ERROR MESSAGE WAS IN THE CAR COMPUTER AND THERE SEEMS TO BE NO GUARANTEE THAT $500 FIX WILL TAKE CARE OF THE ISSUE. UPON MORE RESEARCH I HAVE DONE IT SEEMS LIKE THIS ISSUE IS A VERY WIDE SPREAD ISSUE AND HAPPENING ALL OVER THE COUNTRY. I AM JUST GLAD THAT THIS DID NOT HAPPEN TO MY WIFE WHILE SHE WAS ON A BUSY HIGHWAY DURING THE MORNING RUSH HOUR, WHICH SHE DOES TAKE SOMETIMES TO WORK BUT THIS MORNING CHOICE TO GO THE BACK WAY. *TR
WHEN ACCELERATING, THE CAR'S RPM JUMPS REALLY HIGH BUT THE CAR IS NOT MOVING ANY FASTER. ACTUALLY FEELS LIKE IT IS LOSING POWER. EXACT SAME TYPE OF FEELING AS INDICATED IN THE 2/25/13 REPORTS IN THE NEWS ON THE FORD INVESTIGATION. TOOK TO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE AND THEY COULD NOT RECREATE IT. *TR
ON THE MORNING OF 12/13/12 I WAS ON MY WAY TO MY DAUGHTERS DAYCARE & MY WORK GOING AROUND 70 MPH ON I-75 SOUTH WITH MY 22 MONTH OLD DAUGHTER IN HER CAR SEAT, WHEN MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP ON ME IN MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE. I COULDN'T MOVE THE CAR TO GET OVER ONTO THE SHOULDER. I STARTED TO PANIC! MY ALIGNMENT WAS A LITTLE OFF I GUESS, SO MY TIRES LED ME TO THE LEFT (THANK GOD) & I WAS ABLE TO STOP MY CAR ON THE SHOULDER BY SLOWING DOWN & LETTING MY CAR GLIDE OVER. I HAD POWER STEERING FLUID AT THE TIME, BUT YET I WASN'T EVEN ABLE TO STRONG ARM THE STEERING WHEEL TO GET IT TO MOVE. IT WAS COMPLETELY LOCKED! THE FORD DEALERSHIP TOLD ME I HAD TO HAVE THE WHOLE STEERING SYSTEM REPLACED AND WILL COST ME $1,200. MY (2010) 3 YEAR OLD CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER IT'S 36,000 WARRANTY, SO OF COURSE FORD THINKS I SHOULD PAY FOR IT! HOW CAN A STEERING WHEEL NOT BE ABLE TO MOVE SIDE TO SIDE??? IT'S A STEERING WHEEL! THIS WASN'T CAUSED BY ANY LACK OF MAINTENANCE OR VEHICLE UP KEEP. THERE SHOULD BE NO REASON A 3 YEAR OLD CAR SHOULD NEED A WHOLE NEW STEERING SYSTEM! THIS COULD HAVE KILLED MY 2 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER & I IF THE EXPRESS WAY STARTED TO CURVE. I WAS BLESSED I-75 WAS GOING STRAIGHT AT THE TIME! MY CAR HAS BEEN HAVING A POWER TRAIN ISSUE PAST COUPLE OF WEEKS. A WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON, THEN MY CAR SLOWLY POWERS OFF. IT DOESN'T MATTER WHERE I AM OR HOW FAST OR SLOW I'M GOING. THE SCARIEST INCIDENT WAS WHEN I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY GOING 65 MPH. AGAIN, THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON THE CAR SLOWLY POWERED OFF. LUCKILY IT WAS LATE AND THERE WAS LITTLE TRAFFIC ON THE HIGHWAY. I WAS ABLE TO SLOWLY PULL OVER AND RESTART THE CAR, WHICH STARTED UP FINE. THE CAR HAS NOW DONE THIS 4-5 TIMES. AGAIN, THE SCARIEST INCIDENT WAS ON THE FREEWAY. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE ISSUE IS A STUCK THROTTLE. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH, I'VE FOUND THAT THERE HAVE BEEN MANY COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME ORIGIN OF THE FORD ESCAPES DATING BACK TO YEAR MODEL 2004- WITH ONE FATALITY AND MULTIPLE ACCIDENTS. SOMETHING MUST BE DONE, I.E. RECALL ISSUED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED UPON CLOSING THE REAR LIFT GATE, THE GLASS SHATTERED OUTWARDLY. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM AND DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 17,936. ..UPDATED 01/30/13 *BF UPDATED 2/5/2013 *JS
2010 FORD ESCAPE. I PULLED INTO THE DRIVEWAY AFTER SHOPPING, UNLOADED THE CAR, AND THEN CLOSED THE REAR LIFTGATE DOOR. UPON CLOSING, THE REAR LIFTGATE WINDOW EXPLODED AND SENT SMALL PIECES OF GLASS ALL OVER MY GARAGE. THERE WAS NO PREVIOUS DAMAGE TO THE WINDOW, AND THE DOOR WAS CLOSED WITH A NORMAL AMOUNT OF FORCE. FORTUNATELY, NOONE WAS IN OR AROUND THE CAR (EXCEPT FOR ME) AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. *TR
SERIOUS AND LIFE-THREATENING MALFUNCTION IMPEDED MY ABILITY TO CONTROL MY 2010 ESCAPE OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING 50MPH ON A VERY BUSY HIGHWAY. MY ESCAPE STALLED SUDDENLY WITHOUT ANY WARNING WHAT SO EVER IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LANE WHILE DRIVING ON THE BUSY HIGHWAY. AS I TRIED TO CONTINUE DRIVING, PUSHING THE THROTTLE PEDAL, THE ESCAPE WOULD NOT GO,IT SLOWED DOWN SUDDENLY ON IT'S OWN. I WAS ABLE TO EASE OFF THE PAYMENT TO THE SIDE OF THE LANE; HOWEVER, I WAS ALMOST HIT IN THE REAR BY A AUTO BEHIND ME BEFORE I COULD GET OFF THE PAYMENT. I WAS FORTUNATE TO HAVE BEEN AT A PLACE WHERE I COULD EASE OFF THE PAYMENT. THE HIGHWAY IS CURVY AND HILLY. THIS SCARED ME TO DEATH. A WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON INDICATING A MALFUNCTION OF THE THROTTLE/POWERTRAIN. THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING FINE. I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND WAITED A FEW MINUTES, THEN I CRANKED IT AND IT CRANKED FINE. THE WRENCH LIGHT WENT OFF. I TRIED DRIVING IT AGAIN, AND ONCE I PULLED BACK INTO THE HIGHWAY, GIVING IT GAS, IT WOULD BARELY GO, SO I EASED BACK AGAIN. I CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. AFTER IT WAS INSPECTED I WAS TOLD THE ELECTRIC THROTTLE BODY HAD MALFUNCTIONED AND NEEDED REPLACING. IT WAS THE CAUSED OF THE SUDDEN STALLING WHILE I WAS DRIVING. MY LIFE AS WELL AS OTHERS WERE PUT IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION BECAUSE OF THIS MALFUNCTION. I UNDERSTAND THAT THERE HAS BEEN A LOT OF COMPLAINTS LIKE MINE ALREADY FILED HERE. FORD SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL IMMEDIATELY BEFORE ANY DEATHS OCCUR. I HAD TO PAY $470 TO GET THIS TAKEN CARE SINCE MY WARRANTY WAS OUT 3/36,000. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS NOT COVERED BY THE POWERTRAIN 5/60,000. *TR
I HAD JUST LEFT MY HOUSE IN MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE ON DECEMBER 7TH WHEN SUDDENLY THE ENGINE BOGGED DOWN COMPLETELY AND WAS NO LONGER RESPONSIVE TO THE MOVEMENT OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL EVEN THOUGH THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING. THE "WRENCH" WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR SLOWED TO A CRAWL. I PULLED OVER AND WAS ABLE TO TURN THE CAR AROUND AND RETURN HOME (1/4 MILE) WITH THE VEHICLE MOVING APPROXIMATELY 2-3 MPH. AFTER I RETURNED HOME, I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND THE "WRENCH" LIGHT EXTINGUISHED AND THE CAR SEEMED OKAY. I DROVE A DIFFERENT VEHICLE TO WORK THAT DAY AND WHEN I RETURNED HOME, I PUT MY OBDII SCANNER ON THE VEHICLE AND RETRIEVED A "P2111" PENDING MALFUNCTION CODE. I CLEARED THE CODE, STARTED THE VEHICLE AND DROVE IT WITHOUT INCIDENT UNTIL DECEMBER 18TH WHEN I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN WHILE DRIVING IN MODERATE TRAFFIC. I WAS APPROXIMATELY 25 MILES AWAY FROM MY HOUSE WHEN THE ENGINE, ONCE AGAIN, WAS NO LONGER RESPONSIVE TO THE MOVEMENT OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR OUT OF TRAFFIC BY PULLING INTO A LEFT TURN LANE. THE "WRENCH" LIGHT WAS AGAIN ON. I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTED IT. THE "WRENCH" LIGHT WENT OUT AND THE CAR, ONCE AGAIN SEEMED TO RUN OKAY. I CAUTIOUSLY MADE THE 25 MILE TRIP HOME WITH THE VEHICLE. I PUT THE SCANNER ON THE CAR AGAIN, AND NO MALFUNCTION CODE WAS PRESENT. I HAD BEEN FORTUNATE THIS TIME AS I WAS IN MODERATE TRAFFIC MOVING AT ABOUT 45 MPH WHEN THE INCIDENT OCCURRED. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND I COULD ONLY IMAGINE WHAT COULD HAPPEN IF THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED WHILE IN TRAFFIC ON THE HIGHWAY. *TR
2010 FORD ESCAPE ENGINE STALLS AT RANDOM TIMES: IT'S HAPPENED TO ME SIX TIMES NOW. THE CAR JUST SHUTS OFF AND GOES INTO SOME TYPE OF ROUGH IDLE MODE AND A LITTLE ORANGE WRENCH APPEARS ON THE DASH. AFTER STOPPING AND TURNING OFF THE ENGINE IT WILL START BACK UP. FIRST OCCURRENCE WAS DECEMBER 7TH, 2012, SECOND AND THIRD WERE SEVERAL DAYS LATER. FOURTH AND FIFTH WERE JANUARY 24TH 2013 AND THE SIXTH ON JANUARY 25, 2013. FOUR TIMES WERE ON THE INTERSTATE AT SPEEDS OF 60-65MPH. TWO TIMES WERE ON MAIN STREETS AT 35-40 MPH. CAR WAS PURCHASED NEW AND ALL SERVICE AS REQUIRED HAS BEEN PERFORMED AT DEALERSHIP. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE, AS THE THREE YEAR 36,000 MILES WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 45,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 45,400.

FOR SEVERAL MONTHS, MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE WOULD STALL WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. THERE WERE TIMES THAT I WAS GOING 45-55MPH AND MY VEHICLE WOULD STALL. I LOST POWER STEERING AS VEHICLE SHUT OFF. I HAD TO SLOW DOWN AND PULL OFF THE ROAD AND RE-START THE VEHICLE. THIS WAS VERY DANGEROUS AND SCARY. THIS HAPPENED PROBABLY 10-15 TIMES UNTIL I COULD NO LONGER GET THE VEHICLE STARTED. I HAD IT TOWED INTO A FORD DEALERSHIP AND HAD THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT ANALYZE THE PROBLEM. I FIRST TOOK IT BY AN ADVANCE AUTO TO CHECK THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT. THE CODE THAT CAME UP I BELIEVE WAS 9000. IT HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH EMISSION, FUEL SYSTEM CONCERNS. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT PUT A THROTTLE BODY AND MOTOR ASSEMBLY PART ON IT. I HAVEN'T HAD ANY PROBLEMS SINCE. THEY ALSO DID AN EEC TEST P2111 AND FOUND ETB TO BE AT FAULT AND REPLACED. I HAD TO PAY $356.52 INCLUDING LABOR FOR THIS. IT HAS HAPPENED WHILE CRUISING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AS WELL AS WHEN PULLING OUT INTO AN INTERSECTION. YESTERDAY, THE THROTTLE QUIT RESPONDING COMPLETELY AND HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED. CODE CHECK REPORTED P2111 AND P2112. DEALERSHIP INDICATED THROTTLE BODY FAILURE. VERY DANGEROUS AS COMPLETE LOSS OF THROTTLE CONTROL IN TRAFFIC AND WHEN ACCELERATING INTO TRAFFIC FROM AN INTERSECTION LEAVES US IN A POSITION OF LIMITED CONTROL AND CAN SURPRISE OTHER DRIVERS BECAUSE OF OUR SUDDEN LOSS OF SPEED. WHILE TRAVELING AT HWY SPEED ACCELERATED TO PASS SLOW VEHICLE, VEHICLE WAS DELAYED GOING INTO PASSING GEAR AND CLUNKED INTO PASSING GEAR. HAD TO LET OFF ACCELERATOR TO UPSHIFT INTO 6TH GEAR. WE WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE HAS BEEN AN OPENED CAMPAIGN FOR THIS ISSUE. *TR

I HAVE READ SEVERAL OTHER REPORTS OF THIS SAME THING HAPPENING WITH THEIR FORD ESCAPES. DRIVING ALONG AND HEAR A POP SOUND. THEN LATER REALIZE THEIR SUNROOF HAS FAILED. THIS CRITICAL SITUATION NEEDS TO BE BROUGHT TO ATTENTION OF FORD MOTOR CO. AND HAVE THEM STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT, IF SAID PRODUCT IS STILL UNDER THE MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY. *TR
MY FAMILY WAS ABOUT TO LEAVE ON A TRIP, MY WIFE CLOSED THE REAR TRUNK OF OUR 2010 FORD ESCAPE, AND THE WINDOW ON THE REAR TRUNK SHATTERED COMPLETELY. AS IT WAS EXPLAINED TO ME, ANY INSTANCE IN WHICH A WINDOW SHATTERS COMPLETELY AND GLASS SHARDS FALL INSIDE THE CAR, FORD CONCLUDES THERE MUST HAVE BEEN AN OBSTRUCTION AND DOES NOT COVER THE COST OF REPLACEMENT. FORD'S CORPORATE OFFICE SAID THEY COULD NOT OVERTURN THE SERVICEMAN'S CONCLUSION UNLESS THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE PART IN QUESTION. I BELIEVE THIS IS AN ABUSE. THE WINDOW IS CLEARLY DEFECTIVE: I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR SEVENTEEN YEARS AND NEVER WITNESSED A WINDOW EXPLODE AS THIS ONE DID, AND THEN I FIND THAT AT LEAST 18 SIMILAR COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN FILED WITH THE NHTSA FOR THE SAME ISSUE. RIGHT AFTER THE WARRANTY WENT OUT THE VEHICLE STARTING SLAMMING FROM 1ST INTO 2ND UPON ACCELERATION. THE IDLE IS VERY ROUGH AND QUITE LOUD, THE ENGINE MAKES A FUNNY NOISE AND I TAKE EXTREMELY GOOD CARE OF MY VEHICLE, GETTING ALL OF THE SCHEDULED OIL CHANGES ON TIME, REPLACING THE AIR FILTER, ETC. THE WINDSHIELD IS EXTREMELY THIN AS WELL, A SMALL PEBBLE HIT MY WINDSHIELD CAUSING A 8 INCH CRACK IN A MATTER OF MINUTES TO WHERE IT WAS BEYOND GETTING IT FIXED. THEN LIFTGATE STARTED GIVING ME PROBLEMS. WHEN YOU PRESS THE BUTTON, IT WOULD MAKE THE SOUND, BUT SOMETIMES OPEN, THEN ON MAY 17, 2013 IT JUST QUIT WORKING ALL TOGETHER. ON MAY 18, 2013, I TOOK IT TO REYNOLDS FORD FOR A SCHEDULED OIL CHANGE RIGHT BEFORE A TRIP TO MEXICO AND UPON TELLING THEM ABOUT IT, THEY WANTED $250 JUST TO LOOK AT IT BEFORE PARTS AND LABOR. SO, WHEN YOU ARE TRYING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN, VEHICLES BEHIND YOU DON'T KNOW YOU ARE TURNING AND ALMOST HIT YOU (SAFETY HAZARD). YOU ALSO CAN'T CHANGE A FLAT TIRE SINCE YOU CAN GET TO THE JACK, WHICH IS IN THE REAR COMPARTMENT ACCESSED THROUGH THE LIFTGATE. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM AS THERE IS NO MANUAL RELEASE FOR THE HATCH TO GET IT OPEN PERIOD, ONCE THE LATCH DOESN'T WORK, IT JUST DOESN'T WORK. *TR

I WAS TOLD THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR ESCAPE'S AND FUSION'S. THERE WERE 3 ESCAPES TODAY HAVING THE SAME PART REPLACED. NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND $300. THERE IS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ON THIS ISSUE, BUT NOT A RECALL. SEEMS LIKE A COMMON DEFECT COULD HAVE SAFETY REPERCUSSIONS SINCE IS THE FUEL FUMES NOT EXHAUSTING PROPERLY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE CLOSED HER LIFT GATE AND THE WINDOW EXPLODED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE SUSTAINED MINOR CUTS FROM THE GLASS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A GLASS REPAIR SHOP AND THEY STATED THAT THE WINDOW MAY HAVE BEEN OFF TRACK. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY STATED THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,000.
