I WAS DRIVING TO WORK IN THE MORNING AND MY ESCAPE STALLED WHILE GOING THROUGH A FOUR WAY INTERSECTION. I THOUGHT THAT THIS MAY HAVE BEEN AN ISOLATED INCIDENT SO I CONTINUED DRIVING. I THEN NOTICED WHILE I WAS IN TRAFFIC THAT THE ENGINE WOULD SHUTTER AND NOT IDLE NORMALLY. IT STALLED AGAIN THE NEXT DAY. I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP IN THE CITY WHERE I LIVE WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON, THEY TESTED IT AND THEN THE LIGHT RESET ITSELF?? THEY TOOK IT ON A TEST DRIVE AND NOTHING HAPPENED WITH THEM WHILE THEY WERE DRIVING SO THEY SAID THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THEY COULD DO. MY CAR IS SHUTTING OFF WHILE I AM IN TRAFIC AND DRIVING, THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE BEEN BLESSED THAT THE BRAKES WORK ON THE CARS THAT DRIVE AROUND ME OR ELSE I WOULD HAVE BEEN IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION THIS WEEK!!! PLEASE RECALL THESE CARS AND GET THEM FIXED BEFORE SOMEONE DIES!!!!
AT 55 MPH OUR 2011 FORD ESCAPE LOST ALL POWER WITH NO WARNING AT ALL. HAD TO PUSH IT OUT OF THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. THROTTLE CONTROL/POWERTRAIN LIGHT CAME ON. TURNED IGNITION COMPLETELY OFF AND RESTARTED THE ENGINE, LIGHT WENT OUT AND RAN FINE. GOING IN FOR SERVICE ASAP. *JB
ON 08/30/2013, MY WIFE AND I DROVE OUR 2011 FORD ESCAPE WHICH HAS THE MILEAGE OF 38000 BACK HOME FROM A STATE PARK. WHEN WE WERE ATTEMPTING ACCELERATE THE VEHICLE AFTER A RIGHT TURN FROM A STOP LIGHT, THE GAS PEDAL SUDDENLY STOP WORKING PROPERLY AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE, THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS ON. WE STOPPED THE CAR AND RESTARTED, IT WORKED FINE. WITHOUT THINKING MUCH ABOUT IT, WE DROVE ON I-10 HIGHWAY AND LUCKILY WE GET HOME SAFE. BUT IT HAPPENED AGAIN ON 09/01/2013 AND 09/02/2013, RESPECTIVELY. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUES WHICH FORD COMPANY SHOULD RESOLVE AND I CAN'T BELIEVED I DROVE IT ON HIGHWAY WITH SUCH HIDDEN DANGER!!!
I WAS DRIVING 35-40 MPH WHEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN MY CAR STARTED TO SLOW DOWN. I DID NOT KNOW WHAT WAS HAPPENING AT THE TIME AND I KEPT PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL BUT THE CAR CONTINUED TO SLOW. BEFORE THE CAR STOPPED, I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, PLACED THE CAR IN PARK, TURNED IT OFF, AND OPENED MY CAR DOOR. THEN I TURNED MY CAR ON AGAIN AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO THE PLACE I WAS GOING IN ABOUT 7 MIN. I STAYED AT THAT PLACE FOR AROUND 30 MIN AND THEN GOT IN MY CAR AGAIN WHERE 2 MIN AFTER I STARTED DRIVING, THE CAR STALLED AGAIN. I PULLED OVER, TURNED THE CAR OFF, AND OPENED THE DRIVER'S DOOR. THEN I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON AND PRECEDED TO DRIVE HOME (ABOUT A TEN MINUTE CAR RIDE).
TRAVELING IN A HIGHWAY, CAR SUDDENLY DECELERATES AND ENGINE SLOWS TO ABOUT 800 RPM. THE CAR ENGINE DOES NOT SHUT OFF BUT PRESSING ON ACCELERATOR HAS NO EFFECT ON ENGINE SPEED AND THE CAR WILL NOT MOVE FORWARD. PUTTING IT IN PARK OR NEUTRAL HAS NO EFFECT EITHER. I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE ENGINE OFF USING IGNITION SWITCH AND WHEN I TURNED IT BACK ON THE THROTTLE OPERATED NORMALLY. FROM THE FIRST TIME THE INCIDENT HAS OCCURRED IT HAS REPEATED ITSELF EVERY FEW DAYS WITH REPEATS GETTING MORE OFTEN. I WAS OUT OF STATE WHEN IT OCCURRED SO HAD TO RETURN HOME TO GET CAR REPAIRED. WAITING ON APPOINTMENT NOW. *TR
I WAS T-BONED WHILE MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN IN THE DRIVER'S DOOR. I WAS DRIVING THE CAR. THE DAMAGE RESULTED IN $15,500 + RESULTING IN A TOTAL LOSS. I WENT TO THE ER SUFFERING FROM HEAD TRAUMA. I SUSTAINED A SIGNIFICANT CONCUSSION, WAS OUT OF WORK FOR 1 WEEK. MY AIR BAGS NEVER WENT OFF. *TR
I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 35MPH AND HALF WAY UP A SLIT HILL WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE AND WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND THE ENGINE LOST POWER. I QUICKLY PUT MY HAZARDS ON, STOPPED AND RESTARTED THE CAR. LUCKILY IT STARTED RIGHT UP AND I WAS ABLE TO MOVE BECAUSE I WAS ON THE DOWN SLOP OF THE HILL AND OTHER CARS COULD NOT SEE ME RIGHT AWAY.
APPROACHING A TRAFFIC LIGHT, ENGINE SPEED DROPPED TO 1000 RPM, WOULD NOT RESPOND TO THROTTLE. PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT AND STILL COULD NOT INCREASE SPEED ON ENGINE. WRENCH DISPLAYED ON INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. TURNED ENGINE OFF, AFTER 5-10 MINUTES STARTED ENGINE, THE WRENCH WAS NO LONGER DISPLAYED ON INSTRUMENT PANEL. DROVE HOME, ABOUT 20 MILES, WITH NO FURTHER PROBLEMS. *JB
PULLING ONTO A EXIT RAMP, LOST THROTTLE RESPONSE, RPMS WERE ERRATIC 1000. WAS ABLE TO OFF TO THE SIDE, TURNED ENGINE OFF, WAITED A FEW MINUTES, RESTARTED. DROVE ANOTHER 2 OR SO MILES, SAME ISSUE, BUT NOW WITH ENGINE LIGHT ON AND WRENCH LIGHT ON. AFTER ANOTHER WAIT AND RESTART, SAME RESULT. THREE FAILURES IN 7 MILES. UPON ARRIVING HOME, I USED MY OBD CODE READER TO PULL A "P2112) FAULT CODE. I PURCHASED AND REPLACED THE THROTTLE PLATE CONTROLLER,($350.00) THAT EVENING FROM MY LOCAL FORD DEALER. SO FAR, A WEEK LATER (KNOCK ON WOOD), HAVE NOT HAD ANOTHER OCCURRENCE. BTW THE REPLACEMENT FORD PART IS A DIFFERENT UPDATED PART.
MY WIFE AND I WERE TRAVELLING ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY APPROXIMATELY 3 HOURS FROM OUR HOME. WITH NO NOTICE, OUR VEHICLE LOST POWER AND A DASHBOARD LIGHT ILLUMINATED WHICH WAS THE POWERTRAIN FAULT DETECTION WARNING LIGHT. I PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE AND TURNED THE ENGINE OFF. THE VEHICLE RE-STARTED WITH NO WARNING DETECTION LIGHT AND THE VEHICLE RUNNING PROPERLY. AFTER ABOUT 50 MILES OF ADDITIONAL DRIVING, THE VEHICLE REPEATED THE SAME ISSUE. AFTER PULLING THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE EMERGENCY LANE OF THE INTERSTATE AND SHUTTING THE ENGINE OFF, THE ENGINE RE-STARTED AGAIN WITH NO LIGHT ILLUMINATED EXCEPT A SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT. I DROVE IT TO THE NEAREST EXIT AND FORTUNATELY FOUND A FORD DEALER. THE DEALER REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY OF MY VEHICLE AND TOLD ME THE THROTTLE WAS STICKING OPEN AND THIS WAS CAUSING THE VEHICLE'S COMPUTER TO SHUT DOWN THE POWER. WHEN TRAVELLING ON AN INTERSTATE, I FOUND THIS PROBLEM TO BE VERY DANGEROUS. FORTUNATELY, I DID NOT HAVE AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THIS PROBLEM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED INDEPENDENTLY AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL FAILED TO ENGAGE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE WRENCH WARNING ICON WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
MY FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED ON FRIDAY, AUGUST 30, 2013. I LOST POWER AND ACCELERATION WITH ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING AT ALL. I OBSERVED THAT THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS ON AND NOTICED THAT THE CAR WAS SHUDDERING. I TURNED THE IGNITION ALL THE WAY OFF AND SAT FOR A MINUTE AND TURNED THE CAR BACK ON. IT STARTED FINE AND I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE CAR TO A MECHANIC NEARBY. I LEFT THE CAR FOR 4 DAYS WHILE OUT OF TOWN AND THE MECHANIC INFORMED ME UPON MY RETURN THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM OR REPEAT THE PROBLEM, SO I RETRIEVED MY CAR HOPING THAT IT WAS JUST A ONE TIME INCIDENT. THE SAME OCCURRENCE HAPPENED TWICE MORE ON SEPTEMBER 6, 2013; THIS TIME IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC AND IT WAS IN VERY HAZARDOUS AND UNSAFE CONDITIONS. I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURN THE CAR OFF WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. I'M SURPRISED THAT FORD HAS NOT ALREADY ISSUED A RECALL ON THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM. SOMEONE COULD GET HURT AND THIS VEHICLE IS VERY UNSAFE WITH THIS POTENTIAL POWER TRAIN PROBLEM. I TOOK IT UPON MYSELF TO DO SOME RESEARCH AND I SEE COMPLAINTS ON OTHER FORD MODELS AND THE ESCAPE AS FAR BACK AS 2008. SHAME ON FORD. I WILL BE TAKING THE CAR TO A FORD SERVICE DEALER ON MONDAY, AUGUST 9, 2013. I LOVE THE ESCAPE (THIS IS MY SECOND ONE) AND HAVE PURCHASED NOTHING BUT FORD PRODUCTS. I WILL SERIOUSLY CONSIDER ANOTHER MAKE FOR MY NEXT VEHICLE PURCHASE. FORD SHOULD ABSOLUTELY DO THE RIGHT THING AND ISSUE A RECALL.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE AT A DEALER FOR AN UNRELATED PROBLEM, THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE SHOCK ABSORBER WAS LEAKING HYDRAULIC FLUID. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,500.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE THE AUTOMATIC TAILGATE WAS CLOSING, THE LATCH CLOSED INCORRECTLY AND THE WINDOW SHATTERED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LIFTGATE LATCH WAS FAULTY EVER SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC FOR REPAIR AND THE LATCH WAS LUBRICATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,500.
ON AUGUST 29, 2013 DRIVER OF A 2011 FORD ESCAPE WAS ATTEMPTING TO TURN LEFT AND ACCELERATE THE VEHICLE FROM A STOPLIGHT WHEN THE CAR JERKED FORWARD AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE OR GO WITH FLOW OF TRAFFIC, AND WITH TRAFFIC MOVING BEHIND THE VEHICLE CREATING DANGEROUS SITUATION. THE DASHBOARD SHOWED A WRENCH LIGHT, AND DRIVER FOUND IT HARD TO MOVE CAR FORWARD AS IT WENT INTO "LIMP HOME" MODE, SPUTTERING ALL THE WAY. THE CAR WAS FINALLY MOVED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, SHUT OFF, AND RESTARTED, AND DRIVEN THE 3 MILES HOME. OWNER WILL TAKE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP (CARMAX). DRIVER ASSUMES WILL FIND THROTTLE BODY CODE. THE PART AND SERVICE SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY. HOWEVER, DRIVER/OWNER WILL BE OUT OF POCKET FOR DEDUCTIBLE $250. FAMILY WAS IN CAR AND THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY CONCERN ON THIS VEHICLE. WHEN IT GOES INTO LIMP MODE THERE IS NO WARNING AND MAY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY DECELERATES TO SNAIL SPEED. I BELIEVE FORD MUST RECALL THE FAULTY THROTTLE BODY IN THE 2009-2011 MODELS AS THEY ARE SAFETY ISSUES FOR DRIVERS IN THE CAR AND OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD. *TT
8/29/13 - SAN FRANCISCO, CA I WAS DRIVING DOWN CALIFORNIA STREET AND MY GAS PEDAL FAILED AT PARK PRESIDIO. I GLIDED THROUGH THE INTERSECTION AND PULLED OVER. I SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AND MADE A FEW PHONE CALLS FOR ASSISTANCE. WHEN I TURNED THE ENGINE BACK ON, THE CAR WAS RUNNING FINE.
I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON A STREET WHERE THE SPEED LIMIT IS 50MPH AND WHEN I WENT TO SLOW DOWN I LOST POWER, ENGINE SEEMED TO DO NOTHING AT ALL WHEN GAS PEDAL WAS PUSHED. THE CAR ALSO BEGAN TO SHAKE AS IF I WERE SITING IN THE CAB OF A SEMI. I PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SHUT THE CAR OFF. AFTER A COUPLE OF SECONDS I STARTED THE CAR BACK-UP, IT DID NOT START IMMEDIATELY IT MADE A WEIRD SOUND BUT THEN DID START AND NO LONGER HAD THE SHAKING. I CONTINUED HOME THE 6-7 MILES I HAD LEFT WITH NO OTHER INCIDENT. I I HAD NOT BEEN SLOWING DOWN FOR A RED LIGHT, THERE MAY HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT DUE TO IT HAPPENED ON A BUSY ROAD IN RUSH HOUR. THIS ISSUE SEEMS TO BE A MASSIVE PROBLEM AND IT NEEDS TO BE RECALLED BEFORE PEOPLE ARE HURT OR KILLED, NOT AFTER THE FACT.
I WAS TRAVELING ON INTERSTATE AT 65-70 MPH, WHEN MY ESCAPE'S RPM'S ALL OF A SUDDEN DROPPED TO 1 AND WOULD NOT REACT TO THE GAS PEDAL, LUCKILY I WAS IN THE SLOW LANE AND MANAGED TO COAST OFF THE INTERSTATE. THERE WAS AN 18-WHEELER BEHIND ME AND I STARTED TO PANIC AT THE SPEED HE WAS GAINING ON ME. I FINALLY MANAGED TO GET MY HAZARDS ON TO NOTIFY HIM THAT I WAS HAVING ISSUES. IF I HAD NOT HAVE BEEN IN THE SLOW LANE I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET OFF THE INTERSTATE BEFORE THE CAR STOPPED COMPLETELY. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS, IF I HAD BEEN IN THE FAR LEFT LANE OR THE MIDDLE LANES THE CAR COULD HAVE STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSTATE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE FORD STORE AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY. I THEN GOOGLED THE PROBLEM AND FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A REAL ISSUE WITH A LARGE MAJORITY OF THE VEHICLES NOT JUST A LIMITED FAULTY PART. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW FORD CANNOT SEE THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE IF SOMEONE GOES TO MAKE A LEFT TURN AND THIS HAPPENS ANOTHER CAR COULD CRASH INTO THEM. ANYTIME YOUR CAR DOES NOT REACT PROPERLY IT BECOMES A SAFETY ISSUE. WHEN AN 18-WHEELER IS BEHIND A VEHICLE THAT RESPONDS THE WAY MINE DID TODAY IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. AS YOU KNOW A FULLY LOADED TRACTOR TRAILER CANNOT STOP AS EASILY AS A PASSENGER VEHICLE AND IF THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF THEM ALL OF A SUDDEN LOOSES POWER AND CANNOT GET OUT OF THEIR WAY THERE IS GOING TO BE AN ACCIDENT. ONCE I GOT STOPPED MY CAR DID RESTART BUT GETTING TO THAT POINT WAS VERY SCARY.
CAR SLOWING DOWN TO A STOP AND THE CUTS OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING AROUND 3/4 HAD TO PUT FOOT ON BRAKE AND GAS AT SAME TIME. *JB
WEDNESDAY AUGUST 28, 2013-I WAS GOING DOWN MY STREET HEADED TO WORK-I HAD JUST PULLED OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY. MAYBE GOING 15-20 MILES PER HOUR. THEN THE ESCAPE JOLTED FORWARD LIKE IT WAS GOING TO STALL AND SHUT OFF. IT DID NOT START BACK UP RIGHT AWAY LIKE IT IS SUPPOSED TO. THURSDAY AUGUST 29, 2013-JOLTED, STALLED, AND SHUT OFF 3 DIFFERENT TIMES TODAY. ONE OF THOSE TIMES, THE VEHICLE WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AND A SEMI TRUCK WAS COMING UP BEHIND ME AND ALMOST HIT ME! VERY SCARY!!! UNSAFE!! AS I HAVE BEEN RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM, I HAVE NOTICED THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MAKE, MODEL, AND YEAR. IS IT GOING TO TAKE SOMEONE LOSING THEIR LIFE FOR SOMEONE TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM?! FORD NEEDS TO STEP UP AND RIGHT THEIR WRONG AND QUIT IGNORING IT.
OPERATOR WAS TRAVELING ON 4 LANE HIGHWAY USING THE FAR LEFT LANE. VEHICLE SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING LOST ALL POWER AND WOULD NOT RESPOND TO ACCELERATOR PEDAL. OPERATOR HAD TO PULL OVER TO FAR LEFT WITH TRAFFIC BEHIND NEARLY CRASHING INTO VEHICLE. "WRENCH" SYMBOL APPEARED BRIEFLY ON DASH DISPLAY. OPERATOR TURNED VEHICLE IGNITION OFF AND THEN ON. VEHICLE RAN NORMALLY FOR 10 OR SO MILES, THEN WENT INTO FAULT CONDITION AGAIN WHILE TRAVELING OVER 40 MPH. VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE AND DIAGNOSED WITH FAULTY THROTTLE BODY. REPAIRED AT OWNERS EXPENSE FOR $514.00. FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE WOULD NOT REPAIR VEHICLE OR OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE UNDER POWERTRAIN WARRANTY CLAIMING THAT THIS CONDITION WAS NOT COVERED. THIS IS CLEARLY A SAFETY ISSUE THAT HAS RESULTED IN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS BY OWNERS OF FORD ESCAPE VEHICLES, AS WELL AS SEVERAL REPORTED ACCIDENTS TO INCLUDE PERSONAL INJURY. FORD IS AND HAS BEEN AWARE OF THIS FAULTY PART AND HAS DONE NOTHING TO CORRECT IT OR RESPOND TO IT'S CUSTOMERS COMPLAINTS. NHTSA SHOULD FORCE AN IMMEDIATE RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY HURT OR KILLED DUE TO THIS DEFECTIVE PART. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY ENGAGED INTO LIMP MODE AND DECELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 59,286.
BAD THROTTLE BODY NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY OF 36,000. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE @ 70 MPH, I EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN LOSS OF ACCELERATION WITH A LACK OF THROTTLE RESPONSE AND THE ILLUMINATION OF A SOLID ORANGE "WRENCH" SYMBOL ON THE DASH DISPLAY. I WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER THE VEHICLE TO THE BREAK DOWN LANE AND ACTIVATE THE EMERGENCY FLASHERS. THE VEHICLE WAS STILL RUNNING @ IDLE BUT STILL WOULD NOT ALLOW THROTTLE RESPONSE. I DECIDED TO SHUT OFF THE ENGINE SINCE I WAS ALREADY STRANDED. UPON DOING SO, I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND IT PERFORMED THE SELF-CHECKS AND SEEMED TO BE OPERATING NORMALLY, SO I RESUMED MY JOURNEY. DURING THE LAST OCCURRENCE, I OBSERVED A SOLID YELLOW "ENGINE" SYMBOL IN ADDITION TO THE PREVIOUSLY DESCRIBED "WRENCH" SYMBOL. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS ISSUE WHICH APPEARS TO BE A WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM AND FORD MOTOR CO. WAS AT THE STOP LIGHT, LIGHT TURNS GREEN PRESS THE GAS PEDAL CAR DID NOT MOVE I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. WRENCH LIGHT WAS ON DASH BOARD CAR START TO PUTTER WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. COASTED OUT OF THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET AND THEN THE TRANSMISSION LIGHT WAS ON DASH BOARD, HAD TO GET CAR TOWED HOME. WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON THE HIGHWAY OUT OF NOWHERE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE THROTTLE STOPPED WORKING. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT 65 MPH AND MY ESCAPE JUST STARTED DECREASING IN SPEED, AND I TRIED TO ACCELERATE AND IT WOULD NOT GAIN ANY SPEED AT ALL. STALLING AND SURGING WITHOUT WARNING WHILE I WAS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. WARNING LIGHT CAME ON LOOKED LIKE A WRENCH. THIS HAPPENED THREE TIMES WAS ABLE TO GET INTO PARKING LOT AND HAD CAR TOWED TO FORD DEALER FOR REPAIR. DEALER INDICATED WAS THROTTLE AUTO BODY PROBLEM AND PARTS WILL NOT BE IN FOR 10 DAYS DUE TO A NATIONAL BACK ORDER ON THE SAME PART (S). I HAVE TAKEN GREAT CARE OF THIS CAR AND WAS LIVID IT COULD HAVE SUCH A SERIOUS PROBLEM AT AGE 2 AND 65,000 MILES, OBVIOUS WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM WITH SAME MAKE/MODEL THROUGHOUT THE NATION DUE TO NATIONAL BACK ORDER. AT FIRST, WHILE DRIVING, THE CAR WOULD SHUT DOWN AND NOT RESPOND TO THROTTLE MOVEMENT, A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE IN TRAFFIC. AFTER PULLING OVER AND RESTARTING THE CAR, THE PROBLEM SEEMED TO GO AWAY FOR A WHILE. THE PROBLEM SEEMED TO BE INTERMITTENT THE FIRST FEW TIMES. FINALLY THE CAR SHUT DOWN TO AN IDLE AND WOULD NOT RESPOND TO THROTTLE MOVEMENT AND THE WRENCH AND ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON. THE CAR WOULD ONLY RUN LIMP MODE. THE ODB CODES READ A P2111 AND P2112 (THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL STUCK OPEN, AND THROTTLE ACTUATOR STUCK CLOSED) RESPECTIVELY. WE HAD TO TOW THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. WE WERE TOLD THAT THE ENTIRE THROTTLE BODY HAD TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $666. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE PART IS UNAVAILABLE FOR 2 WEEKS AND MAYBE UP TO A MONTH. WE HAVE 39000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE, THE WARRANTY RAN OUT AT 36000. THIS ISSUE IS ALSO NOT COVERED UNDER THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. ON AUGUST 21, 2013 DRIVER OF A 2011 FORD ESCAPE WAS ATTEMPTING TO TURN AND ACCELERATE THE VEHICLE FROM A STOPLIGHT WHEN THE CAR JERKED FORWARD AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC, AND WITH TRAFFIC MOVING BEHIND THE VEHICLE. THE DASHBOARD SHOWED A WRENCH LIGHT, AND DRIVE FOUND IT HARD TO STOP CAR AS IT WAS SPUTTERING AND JERKING FORWARD. THE CAR WAS FINALLY MOVED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, SHUT OFF, AND RESTARTED, AND DRIVE THE 10 MILES HOME. OWNER TOOK CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THROTTLE BODY CODE WAS DISCOVERED. THIS PART IS NOT COVERED UNDER POWERTRAIN WARRANTY, THUS OWNER FIX COST IS $600.00. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN ON THE VEHICLE, WHEN IT GOES INTO SAFE MODE THERE IS NO WARNING AND CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY DECELERATES TO UNDER 1000 RPM. AGAIN I HAD TO TURN OFF THE ENGINE IN ORDER TO RESTART. I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP THE NEXT MORNING AND THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE AT A COST OF $505.00. *TR
I WAS PULLING OUT OF THE DOCTOR'S OFFICE WITH MY WIFE AND NEWBORN CHILD AND AS I PULLED OUT (I HAD PLENTY OF SAFE DISTANCE IF MY CAR WERE FUNCTIONING PROPERLY) MY CAR ALL OF A SUDDEN LOST ANY ACCELERATION CAPABILITIES AND THE RPM'S DROPPED EXTREMELY LOW. I TOOK MY ESCAPE TO THE CLOSEST FORD DEALERSHIP WHO INFORMED ME THAT THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY HAD FAILED. IT WAS NOT VERY COMFORTING WHEN HE KNEW EXACTLY WHAT WAS GOING ON WHEN I TOLD HIM WHAT HAPPENED BECAUSE HE HAD SEEN THIS SAME SITUATION SO MANY TIMES. WHILE DRIVING AT INTERSTATE SPEEDS (65 MPH), THE VEHICLE JUST SEEMED TO STOP, BUT THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING. I HAD JUST GONE OVER A BRIDGE AND WAS ABLE TO COAST DOWN AND PULL OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. A YELLOW WRENCH WAS DISPLAYED IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. I TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND REMOVED THE KEY. AFTER WAITING FOR A MINUTE, I WAS ABLE TO START THE VEHICLE AND RETURN HOME. THIS HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES NOW. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP WHO INFORMED ME THAT THIS WAS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY AND THEY HAVE HAD SEVERAL REPAIRS RELATED TO THIS. SO MUCH THAT THE TECHNICIAN KNEW THE PART NUMBER BY HEART AND WAS ABLE TO PROVIDE A QUOTE WITHOUT DOING ANY PAPERWORK OR EVEN LOOKING AT THE VEHICLE. I LIVE ON THE COAST WHERE THERE ARE SEVERAL BRIDGES AND TUNNELS. HAD I CHOSE TO DRIVE THROUGH THE TUNNEL INSTEAD OF TAKING THE BRIDGE, I HAVE NO DOUBT THAT THIS ISSUE WOULD HAVE CAUSED A VERY BAD ACCIDENT. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THIS AND FORD NEEDS TO STEP UP AND FIX THE PROBLEM INSTEAD OF MAKING A KILLING OFF THE UNSUSPECTING CONSUMER AT THE SUM OF OVER $400 A POP. *TR

ON ONE OF THESES OCCASIONS, I WAS ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY IN THE DC AREA WHEN THE THROTTLE GAVE OUT. I TURNED ON MY HAZARDS AND PULLED OVER. THANKFULLY THE CARS BEHIND ME HAD ENOUGH ROOM NOT TO CRASH INTO ME. I THEN TURNED OFF THE CAR. ONCE RESTARTED, IT SEEMED TO STALL A BIT AND THEN DROVE NORMALLY UNTIL THE NEXT INCIDENT. THERE HAVE BEEN 4 INCIDENTS WITHIN 5 DAYS, ALL SEEMING TO HAPPEN AT RANDOM. THE "WRENCH" FLASHES ONCE THE THROTTLE GOES OUT, BUT THEN DOESN'T APPEAR ONCE THE CAR IS BACK ON AND EVERYTHING SEEMS NORMAL. FORD HAS GIVEN ME PROBLEMS, SAYING THIS FALLS OUTSIDE MY WARRANTY AND I MAY HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR MYSELF. THEY ALSO WONT SEE ME FOR A WEEK, WHEN THIS MERITS IMMEDIATE ATTENTION. CAR DIED WHILE CROSSING FOUR LANE HIGHWAY- NO THROTTLE RESPONSE, ALMOST GOT HIT B Y SEMI SUPPOSE TO HAVE 60000 MILE WARRANTY ON DRIVE TRAIN FORD GARAGE SAID NO TO WARRANTY CLAIM. THROTTLE BODY HAD TO BE REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND WENT INTO LIMP MODE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE.
