I BROUGHT MY CAR TO A MECHANIC BECAUSE THERE WAS A STRONG GAS SMELL IN MY CAR DURING AND AFTER OPERATING. MY MECHANIC INFORMED ME THE FUEL LINE FROM THE RAIL INTO PULSATOR/DAMPER IS LEAKING. HE SAID THE CABLE NEXT TO THE FUEL LINE HAS BEEN RUBBING AGAINST IT AND CAUSED THE LEAK. THERE IS A CURRENT NHTSA RECALL 13V584000 FOR MY EXACT CAR MAKE, MODEL, PRODUCTION DATE AND ENGINE STYLE BUT MY VIN IS NOT LISTED AS AN AFFECTED VEHICLE, YET IT IS EXPERIENCING THE EXACT ISSUE. THE FORD DEALERSHIP WILL NOT ADDRESS THIS AS A RECALL BECAUSE OF THIS. THE MECHANIC STATED WHAT HE OBSERVED IS EXACTLY IN LINE WITH THE RECALL.
I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE IN JULY OF 2018 FROM MURFREESBORO VOLKSWAGEN . 2 MONTHS AFTER I PURCHASED ONCE A MONTH THE LOW COOLANT LIGHT COMES ON AND WHEN I ADD A LITTLE COOLANT TO IT THE LIGHT GOES OUT. BUT ONCE A MONTH YOU HAVE TO ADD COOLANT TO IT.
PARKED THE VEHICLE IN MY DRIVEWAY. VEHICLE WAS IN PARK WHEN I TURNED THE IGNITION OFF. VEHICLE BEGAN ROLLING BACKWARDS AS I WAS ATTEMPTING TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE. VEHICLE ROLLED BACKWARDS INTO A TREE DAMAGING THE LIFTGATE, REAR BUMPER AND EXHAUST COMPONENTS. THE FORD RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE COVERED FORD ESCAPE 2013 MODELS MANUFACTURED IN THEIR LOUISVILLE, KY PLANT BETWEEN MAY 2013 AND SEPTEMBER 2013. MY FORD ESCAPE WAS BUILT IN APRIL 2013. I AM CURIOUS AS TO WHAT CHANGED IN THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS BETWEEN APRIL AND MAY THAT WOULD EXCLUDE MY VEHICLE FROM THE RECALL.
VEHICLE COOLANT WARNING INDICATES COOLANT LOW. WATER PUMP REPLACED IN 2016 RELATED TO THIS ISSUE. ISSUE PERSISTED IN LATE 2017/EARLY 2018 WHERE WARNING FREQUENTLY INDICATES COOLANT LOW, SOMETIMES ACCOMPANIED BY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. CAR SERVICED AND NO LEAKS OR ISSUES WITH ENGINE WERE IDENTIFIED. SEPTEMBER 2018 COOLANT WARNING CAME ON AND COOLANT WAS REPLACED. WHILE DRIVING, THREE MILES DOWN THE ROAD, COOLANT WARNING SIGNALED AND ENGINE OVERHEATING WARNING SIGNALED IMMEDIATELY THEREAFTER. CAR BEGAN TO SHUT DOWN AS THE CAR WAS PULLED OFF OF THE ROAD. CARY CROSSROADS FORD SERVICE IDENTIFIED INTERNAL LEAK WITH COOLANT LEAKING INTO THE CYLINDER HEAD OF THE ENGINE POSSIBLY DUE TO A CRACKED HEAD OR BLOCK. ISSUE REQUIRES A FULL ENGINE REPLACEMENT.
CAR HAS CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON FOR COOLANT BYPASS VALVE NEEDING REPLACED. I AM GOING THROUGH COOLANT QUICKER THAN IT SHOULD, AND THE ENGINE LIGHT FOR OVERHEATING COMES ON ABOUT ONCE A MONTH. THE PART HAS BEEN PART OF A RECALL FOR LATER MODELS OF MY CAR, BUT NOT MINE.
2013 FORD ESCAPE, STALLING, LOOSING POWER DASH LIGHTING UP WHILE DRIVING. DEALER SERVICE DEPT CAN FIND NOTHING WRONG.
DISPLAY WILL READ ENGINE FAULT SERVICE NOW AND THEN THE CAR WILL SEEM LIKE IT RESTARTS, IT WILL NEXT READ TRANSMISSION NOT IN PARK, THIS WILL HAPPEN WHILE I'M DRIVING 75 MPH DOWN THE FREEWAY. I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED THE WIRING HARNESS THAT WAS RECALLED, BUT IT DIDN'T FIX THE ISSUE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,422.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE "ADD COOLANT TO SYSTEM" MESSAGE APPEARED. THE CONTACT DROVE TO HANSEL FORD (3075 CORBY AVENUE, SANTA ROSA, CA 95407) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A COOLANT LEAK AT THE HEATER HOSE AND HEATER CORE, WHICH NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE REQUIRED COOLANT TO BE ADDED EVER SINCE 2014, WHICH WAS CURRENTLY A WEEKLY OCCURRENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND ISSUED CASE NUMBER: CAS-15524590. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,187.
TRANSMISSION FAILED AT A STOP LIGHT ON A TWO LANE ROAD.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT IMMEDIATELY SHIFT INTO REVERSE AFTER PUSHING THE REVERSE SELECTOR BUTTON. THE FAILURE WAS ALSO PRESENT WHEN SELECTING THE DRIVE GEAR. IN ADDITION, WHEN DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT IMMEDIATELY RESPOND; HOWEVER, THE RPMS CONTINUED TO INCREASE AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AT A HIGHER RATE OF SPEED. THE FAILURES WERE NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER AND LOCAL DEALER (DOAN FORD, 66870 BELMONT MORRISTOWN RD., BELMONT, OH) WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,500.
THE TRANSMISSION WILL PERFORM A "HARD" SHIFT IN AND OUT OF GEARS (MAINLY BETWEEN THIRD AND FIFTH GEAR) RANDOMLY. THE PRND INDICATORS ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WILL FLASH SPORADICALLY WHEN THIS OCCURS. THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL INSTANCES WHEN THE CAR HAS SLIPPED INTO NEUTRAL (ESPECIALLY ON THE HIGHWAY AT HIGH SPEEDS) WHEN THIS OCCURS. I HAVE ALSO HAD AN ISSUE WHEN THE CAR IS PLACED IN REVERSE. IT WILL SLIP IN AND OUT OF GEAR AND THE BACK UP CAMERA WILL FLASH. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO SEVERAL DEALERS AND MECHANICS, AND NO ONE HAS BEEN ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE. I AM BEING TOLD THAT NO DIAGNOSIS CODES APPEAR IN THE ON BOARD COMPUTER. I AM LEFT DRIVING AN UNSAFE, UNRELIABLE CAR WITHOUT ANY HOPE OF A FIX.
THE COOLANT KEEPS GETTING LOW. I HAD A PRESSURE TEST DONE WITH NO ISSUE FOUND. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME EVERYTHING WAS FINE, HOWEVER I HAVE TO KEEP ADDING COOLANT ABOUT EVERY 10-14 DAYS. I HAVE DONE SOME INTERNET SEARCHING SINCE MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP WAS NO HELP. I FOUND THERE WAS A RECALL FOR 2013 FORD ESCAPES DUE TO A COOLANT ISSUE BUT MY VEHICLE NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL. THE STICKER INSIDE THE DOOR HAS A MANUFACTURE DATE OF 8/2012.
ON 8/29/2018 I FELT LIKE MY WAS LOSING POWER WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK. ON 8/30/18 MY ENGINE COMPLETELY STALLED OUT AND LOST POWER IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WHILE I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK. BOTH TIMES MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT NEVER CAME ON. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART MY VEHICLE AFTER MY ENGINE LOST POWER ON 8/30/18, AND I DROVE IT TO THE NEAREST REPAIR PLACE. I'M LUCKY THAT IT DID START BACK UP BECAUSE I WAS NOT IN A SAFE PLACE TO LEAVE IT. I PUT MY FLASHERS ON AND BEGAN HONKING SO THAT CARS BEHIND ME WOULD TAKE NOTICE AND AVOID CRASHING INTO ME. I AM ALSO LUCKY THAT IT DID NOT DIE WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY! THE REPAIR PLACE TOLD ME THAT THEY TOOK IT OUT FOR A TEST DRIVE TO TRY AND FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT AND IT DIED AGAIN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WHILE THE TECHNICIAN WAS DRIVING IT.
TWO ISSUES ' SOMETIMES ONE WOULD FOLLOW THE OTHER. VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 94,000 MILES ON IT. AUTO LOSES COOLANT FREQUENTLY WITHOUT ANY VISIBLE LEAKS. HAVE TO REPLACE/ADD COOLANT EVERY COUPLE WEEKS, SOMETIMES MORE FREQUENTLY. VEHICLE WOULD DISPLAY LOW COOLANT SIGN AND WITHIN MINUTES THE "HIGH TEMPERATURE, PLEASE PULL OVER SAFELY" SIGN WOULD SHOW AND TEMPERATURE GAUGE WOULD RISE TO THE TOP AND CAR WOULD GO INTO LIMP MODE. ISSUE HAPPENED IN DIFFERENT DRIVING CONDITIONS - TWICE ON HIGHWAY, WHICH COULD HAVE BEEN DANGEROUS HAD THERE BEEN A CAR DIRECTLY BEHIND ME. TWO LOCAL AUTO SHOPS POINTED OUT SAME RECALLS/TSB'S AND SAID THE CAR SHOULD BE TAKEN TO DEALER. I TOOK MY CAR TO TWO DEALERS AND THEY SAID THERE WERE NO RECALLS AND COULD GIVE ME NO VALID SOLUTION TO MY ISSUE. (EVENTUALLY ONE DEALER SAID I HAD A BLOWN HEAD GASKET AND BLOWN ENGINE AND THAT THE CAR WAS UNDRIVABLE AND WANTED $6500 TO REPLACE THEM ' SO WE HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A LOCAL AUTO SHOP AND THEY SAID THE GASKET/ENGINE WERE JUST FINE.).
1. MIS-FIRING CAUSING THE ENTIRE VEHICLE TO ROCK, SEEN MAINLY WHEN THE ENGINE IS IN GEAR WITH THE BREAK ENGAGED AT A STOP SIGNAL. 2. SUDDEN OVER-REVVING SEEN ON THE TACHOMETER. 3. THE OVER-REVVING USUALLY PRECEDES THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE SPIKING INTO THE CRITICAL AREA. THIS IS MOST LIKELY TO HAPPEN ON INCLINES. PULLING OVER, SHUTTING DOWN THE ENGINE ALLOWING IT TO COOL DOWN FOR 10-15 MINUTES, THEN EVERYTHING IS FINE. I HAVE LEARNED TO WATCH FOR THE OVER-REVVING, THEN APPLY THE BRAKE TO STOP THE OVER-REVVING. THEN HAS ALLOWED ME TO KEEP THE OVER-HEATING IN CHECK.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD ESCAPE. WHEN THE CONTACT SHIFTED THE VEHICLE INTO REVERSE, THE ENGINE STALLED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V471000 (POWER TRAIN); HOWEVER, THE PARTS TO DO THE RECALL REPAIR WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE SHIFTER CABLE WAS FRACTURED, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 44,000.
POP-UP MESSAGES ON CONSOLE: "TRANSMISSION FAULT. SERVICE NOW. REDUCING POWER TO REDUCE ENGINE TEMPERATURE." ALTHOUGH THERE WAS NOT A PERCEPTIBLE DIFFERENCE IN DRIVING, I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO SERVICE IMMEDIATELY. RESULTS FROM DEALER SERVICE ADVISOR: "IT APPEARS THE TORQUE CONVERTER IS SLIPPING INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION, THE TRANS OVER TEMP LIGHT IS COMING ON AS A RESULT OF THE CONVERTER SLIPPING, SO ULTIMATELY IT WILL NEED THE TRANSMISSION REBUILT WITH THE TORQUE CONVERTER REPLACED. I KNOW YOU ARE JUST OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY AND THE REPAIR IS QUITE UNEXPECTED AND COSTLY. FORD HAS REPLIED BACK AND STATED THEY WILL ASSIST $1,569.12, WHICH WOULD LEAVE YOU RESPONSIBLE FOR $1,000.00 TOWARD THE REPAIR."
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE REVERSING AT UNKNOWN SPEEDS, THE GEAR SHIFTER BECAME STUCK IN THE DRIVE POSITION; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO MOVE IN REVERSE. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED, BUT FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS ENGAGED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO SAN TAN FORD (1429 E MOTORPLEX LOOP, GILBERT, AZ 85297, (480) 821-3200) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SHIFTER CABLE FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 71,000.
ON WED AUGUST 22ND, 2018, I WAS RUNNING ERRANDS. I LEFT A STORE, ENTERED MY 2013 FORD ESCAPE TITANIUM, AND BEGAN TO SLOWLY BACK OUT OF MY PARKING SPACE. AFTER BACKING OUT OF THE SPACE, I PUT THE SHIFTER INTO D AND BEGAN TO TRY TO DRIVE FORWARD, BUT MY VEHICLE INSTEAD CONTINUED TO ROLL BACKWARDS. I IMMEDIATELY PRESSED MY BRAKE PEDAL, WHICH STOPPED IT FROM ROLLING BACKWARDS, AND PUT THE SHIFTER INTO P. THOUGH MY VEHICLE SHOWED THAT IT WAS IN PARK, IT CONTINUED TO ROLL BACKWARDS IF I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE. I WAS ABLE TO REVERSE MY CAR DOWN THE PARKING LOT AND BACK INTO A PARKING SPACE AT THE END OF THE LOT. ALL THE WHILE, MY 2013 ESCAPE SHOWED THAT IT WAS IN PARK. I TURNED MY VEHICLE OFF, BUT HAD TO ENGAGE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO ENSURE THAT IT WOULD NOT CONTINUE ROLLING BACKWARDS. WHEN I TRIED TO TURN THE VEHICLE BACK ON A MINUTE LATER, I WAS NOT ABLE TO PUSH THE BRAKE PEDAL DOWN. IT BECAME LOCKED, AND I COULDN'T TURN THE ENGINE ON, SHIFT, OR DO ANYTHING EXCEPT TURN PRESS THE IGNITION BUTTON TO TURN ON/OFF THE RADIO/AC/LIGHTS/ELECTRICAL, ETC. (DURING THIS WHOLE TIME, THERE WAS NEVER ANY WARNING LIGHTS LIT OR ANY INDICATION AT ALL THAT A PROBLEM WAS ABOUT TO OCCUR OR CURRENTLY OCCURING.) I HAD IT TOWED TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALERSHIP, WHERE THEY CONFIRMED THAT IT WAS THE SHIFTER ASSEMBLY/CABLE THAT BROKE, WHICH IS THE EXACT ISSUE IN THE RECALL FORD ISSUED ON OVER 500,000 2013 FORD ESCAPES IN JULY 2018. HOWEVER, DESPITE MY VEHICLE HAVING THE EXACT MECHANICAL FAILURE AS DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL NOTICE, I WAS TOLD BY FORD WHEN I CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER DIRECTLY, THAT MY VEHICLE WAS ASSEMBLED AT A PLANT THAT HAS NOT BEEN ADDED TO THE RECALL. OBVIOUSLY THIS ISSUE IS MORE VAST AND WIDESPREAD THAN FORD IS WILLING TO ADMIT. BECAUSE MY ESCAPE IS FROM A FACTORY THAT HASN'T BEEN ADDED TO THE RECALL YET, FORD REFUSES TO COVER THE COST OF REPAIRS. THIS IS INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DETERMINED THAT THE ECO BOOSTER FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,037.
I HAVE DRIVEN THIS 2013 ESCAPE FOR 2.5 YEARS. WE HAVE 34,838 MILES ON IT. IN THE PAST YEAR THE FOLLOWING ISSUES HAVE ARISEN. 1) HEAT SENSOR HAS GONE BAD, WARNING LIGHTS AND BELLS SIGNALING A SERIOUS PROBLEM, AS THE CAR SHUTS DOWN. CAR WILL NOT START. REPLACED TWICE IN 8 MONTHS. 2) LEFT PASSENGER DOOR WILL NOT CLOSE - LATCH ISSUE AS STATED IN NHTSA RECALL 16V643. 3) IN THE PAST TWO WEEKS, THE CAR WILL STALL WITHOUT ANY WARNING. NOT OVERHEATING. COMPUTER DIAGNOSTICS SHOW NO PROBLEM. THIS HAS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, RESIDENTIAL DRIVING WITH FREQUENT STOP SIGNS, PULLING ONTO THE HIGHWAY, IN PARKING LOTS, A SHORT TRIP USUALLY DOES NOT PRODUCE THE PROBLEM, HOWEVER, IF WE ARE RUNNING ERRANDS AND MAKE MORE THAN ONE (1) STOP, WE WILL DEFINATELY EXPERIENCE THE STALL DURING THE DRIVE HOME. CAR WILL COAST TO A STOP, NO INDICATION FROM GAUGES OF ANY ENGINE ISSUES. CAR HESITANTLY RESTARTS. WE PROCEED WITH EXTREME CAUTION, AS WE DO NOT KNOW WHEN IT WILL STALL AGAIN, AND IN WHAT TRAFFIC SITUATION. IT IS AT THE DEALER TO HAVE 3 RECALLS ADDRESSED, AND THEY WILL 'DETERMINE' IF THEY CAN IDENTIFY THE REASON FOR THE STALL. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO ANOTHER MECHANIC, WHO DID NOT GET TO DRIVE THE CAR UNTIL A FEW HOURS AFTER I DROPPED IT OFF. OF COURSE, DIAGNOSTIC TESTING PRODUCED NO RESULTS AND THE MECHANIC DROVE THE CAR ONCE, FOR TEN MINUTES - STALL DID NOT OCCUR. NOTED THAT THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN RECORD WITH NHTSA 40 TIMES, AND A RECALL HAS NOT BEEN ISSUED. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. IN RESPONSE TO QUESTION BELOW, "WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN?", I AM PROVIDED THE MOST RECENT DATE: 08/19/2018. (IT HAPPENS DAILY). I CONTACT THE DEALER LAST WEEK AND WAS TOLD TO BRING IT IN 08/20.
THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR DOES NOT SHUT FLUSH TO THE DOOR FRAME. I DISCOVERED THIS WHEN I WAS WASHING MY CAR. BELOW YOU ASKED WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN? NOTHING HAPPENED THIS IS JUST THE WAY THE IS. I ALWAYS THOUGHT THE WINDOW WAS NOT SHUTTING COMPLETELY BECAUSE WHEN YOU SIT IN THE PASSENGER YOU CAN HEAR A WHISTLE. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE DOOR. MAYBE IT DIDN'T WORK?
VEHICLE STARTED TO CATCH ON FIRE DUE TO PREVIOUSLY SERVICED RECALL THAT WASN'T DONE CORRECTLY . DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, CAR STARTED MAKING CRAZY NOISE AND SMOKING BAD . THERE WAS COOLANT IN IT AND IT WAS NOT LEAKING. VEHICLE STARTS ALERTING ' PULL OVER SAFELY CAR OVERHEATING ' DURING ROUTINE DRIVES EVEN WHEN COOLANT IS FULL . THIS TIME IT WAS PRACTICALLY ON FIRE . CAR IS UNDRIVEABLE AND FORD WILL NOT HELP US . THEY SAY BECAUSE IT WAS PREVIOUSLY SERVICED THEY AREN'T UNABLE TO ASSIST ANY FURTHER . NOW WE ARE OUT OF A VEHICLE AND FORD IS REFUSING ANY RESPONSIBILITY .
WHILE I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH ON HWY 62 NEAR VILAS RD. IN JACKSON COUNTY, OREGON, THE LOW BATTERY WARNING ILLUMINATED AND THE STEERING LOCKED UP. I WENT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP, NOT WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE, AND WAS INFORMED THIS CAR IS NOT SUBJECT TO RECALL EVEN THOUGH THE SAME MODELS AND YEAR RANGE HAVE THIS EXACT SAFETY HAZARD & FAULT. MY VEHICLE IS NOW AT THE MECHANIC, THAT THE DEALERSHIP CHOSE, AND THEY SAY IT IS A $2,000.00 REPAIR WITH AN UNDERTERMINED TIME FRAME TO REPAIR IT. I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED, KILLED MY WIFE, OR ANOTHER PERSON WITH THE STEERING LOCKING UP LIKE THAT.
MY 2013 FORD ESCAPE HAS STALLED SEVERAL TIMES WHILE DRIVING, ONLY TO RESTART AGAIN AND SEEM FINE. RECENTLY IT STALLED AND WOULD NOT START UP.

COOLANT HAS HAD TO BE REPLACED FOR A YEAR AND A HALF, ABOUT EVERY OTHER MONTH OR SO. SEVERAL DIFFERENT DIAGNOSTIC CHECKS REVEALED NOTHING, NO LEAKS, NO DAMAGE. VEHICLE SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING 3 DAYS AGO DUE TO POTENTIAL OVERHEAT. DEALER SAYS ENGINE IS NOW DAMAGED DUE TO COOLANT LEAKING INTO IT OVER TIME AND MUST BE REPLACED. FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE SAYS THERE ARE NO RECALLS AND THE 5 YEAR POWER TRAIN WARRANTY IS EXPIRED BY A FEW MONTHS. NO HELP FROM THEM OR THE DEALER. THIS WAS A FULL ON SAFETY ISSUE WITH MY DAUGHTER DRIVING, AND WE NEVER KNEW IT.

IT HAS BEEN DRAINING COOLANT LIKE IT'S ITS ADDICTION. THE CODES FOR THE CYLINDER 3 MISFIRE AND THE TEMPERATURE SENSOR/OVERHEATING CONDITION ARE DETECTED AND PERMANENT. WHILE DRIVING IT HAS OVERHEATED 3 TIMES WITHIN THE PAST MONTH. SPARK PLUGS AND COILS PACKS ARE BRAND NEW. SPARK PLUG #3 CROSS THREADED FROM FACTORY, IT TOOK 4 DAYS TO CHANGE IT.
BUSHING CABLE DETACHED FROM THE SHIFTER CABLE DURING DRIVING IN CLUTCHLESS AUTOMATIC MODE, LEAVING CAR IN NEUTRAL AND UNABLE TO CHANGE GEARS OR PARK. ROLLED INTO A PARKING LOT (BY GOD'S GRACE). WAITED 2 HOURS WITH FOOT ON BRAKE AS THE EMERGENCY BRAKE HELD BUT SINCE I WAS ON A HILL WAS WORRIED FOR THE SAFETY OF THOSE AROUND ME. TOWED TO FORD DEALERSHIP. RESEARCHED THE ALREADY STATED SAFETY RECALL AND THEY REFUSE TO FIX IT UNLESS IT IS AT MY OWN EXPENSE OF ALMOST $1000. NHTSA RECALL NUMBER 18V471.
MY VEHICLE WAS GOING 45 MPH IN MOTION DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. ABOUT 4 MILES DOWN THE ROAD MY CAR FLASHED THE "ENGINE OVERHEATING" SIGNED AND WITHIN 5 SECONDS THE CAR CAME TO A STOP AND STALL IN LIMP MODE. THIS IS NOT SAFE ESPECIALLY SINCE I WAS ON A HIGHWAY, AND WHERE I LIVE THERE ARE HIGHWAYS EVERY WHERE THAT TAKE ME WHERE I NEED TO BE. TOOK TO FORD DEALER A MILE OR SO DOWN THE ROAD, AND THEY TESTED IT FOR EVERYTHING AND THEY SENT ME ON MY WAY WITH NO WORK DONE, JUST CONDUCTED A ROAD TEST AFTER RESETTING THE CODES AND LIGHT DID NOT COME BACK ON. ABOUT 15 MILES LATER, THE CAR DID THE EXACT SAME THING AGAIN ON THE SAME HIGHWAY, GOING 45, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR WENT INTO LIMP MODE AGAIN. TOOK TO THE FORD DEALER NEXT DAY AND TOLD ME THAT THE STANDPIPE IS MALFUNCTIONING CAUSING THE OVERHEATING IN THE ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM. BUT, FIXING THIS PIECE DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. MY CAR WAS FIXED FOR THIS SAME ISSUE IN 2014, BY THE 13S12. AND YET, THIS ISSUE IS HAPPENING AGAIN. I DO HAVE THE 2013 FORD ESCAPE WITH THE 1.6L ENGINE THAT HAS FREQUENTLY DEALT WITH THIS PROBLEM. DRIVING THIS CAR IS VERY UNSAFE DUE TO THE CAR ABRUPTLY STOPPING IF THIS PROBLEM HAPPENS, THE CAR STALLS AND CAN EASILY OVERHEAT. AS THE DEALER HAS ONLY SUGGESTED INSTALLING A NEW COOLANT LEVEL SENSOR (STANDPIPE) WITH NEW HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE, WE SEE THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS NOT WORKED IN PREVIOUS 2013 FORD ESCAPES. HAVING THIS CAR ON THE ROAD IS A SAFETY HAZZARDS. WITH OVER 3 PAGES OF MY FORD ESCAPE ALONE WITH FACTORY RECALLS, THIS CAR SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED ON THE ROAD. I HOPE THIS GETS FIXED, OR AT LEAST A RECALL FOR THIS CAR OR AN INVESTIGATION IS PUT IN ACTION. "TAKATA RECALL" I WAS DRIIVNG ON A CITY STREET WHEN I WAS T-BONED BY A VEHICLE WHO RAN A STOP LIGHT. AS I BECAME CONTACT WITH THE OTHER VEHICLE I LOST CONTROL OF MY CAR AND ENDED UP HITTING A WATER METER, AFTER TRYING TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES,BECAUSE THEY BRAKES WOULDNT CATCH ON. .NEITHER CONTACT WITH THE OTHER VEHICLE NOR THE WATER METER ACTIVATED THE AIR BAGS.
MY VEHICLE HAS HAD ISSUES THE LAST YEAR. IT STARTED WITH A COOLANT LEAK THAT CAME OUT OF NO WHERE WHICH STALLED MY CAR BECAUSE A WARNING CAME UP STATING IT WAS TOO HOT. I JUST ADDED COOLANT AND IT SEEMED TO BE FINE, A FEW MONTHS LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN AND MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND THEY REPLACED THE SPARK PLUGS AND COILS. IT SEEMED TO BE FINE FOR A FEW MONTHS BUT I WAS CONSTANTLY HAVING COOLANT ISSUES AND HAVING TO ADD MORE. IT BECAME MORE FREQUENT AND I WAS GOING THROUGH ONE GALLON OF COOLANT A WEEK. THE CAR WOULD STALLED ALL THE TIME WITH MY KIDS IN THE CAR BUT AS SOON AS I OPENED THE RESERVOIR TO ADD MORE IT FILL ALMOST COMPLETELY BACK UP. I TOOK IT TO FORD AND THE QUOTED ME $7,100 TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND SAID I NEEDED A NEW ENGINE DUE TO A WARPED HEAD GASKET. HE ALSO TOLD ME THAT HE WOULD NOT TAKE MY MONEY BECAUSE THIS WAS A KNOWN ISSUE AND THEY KNEW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS BY MY DESCRIPTION BEFORE EVEN RUNNING ANY TESTS, THEY ALSO SAID IT COULD LIKELY HAPPEN AGAIN. I STARTED DOING MY RESEARCH AND REALIZED THAT THIS YEAR MAKE AND MODEL OF MY VEHICLE HAD MULTIPLE RECALLS FOR THIS VERY PROBLEM BUT LOOKING UP RECALLS WITH MY VIN SHOWED MY CAR DID NOT QUALIFY WITH THIS SPECIFIC RECALL. I BELIEVE FORD SHOULD BE FIXING THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE IT IS CREATING A REAL SAFETY HAZARD FOR THE OWNERS OF THESE VEHICLES.

I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO A DEALERSHIP NEARBY MY WORK AND IT WAS CONNECTED TO A COMPUTER AND PULLED CODE U3000 AND FOUND TO BE A FAULTY STEERING GEAR WITH ESTIMATED REPAIR COST OF $1,940. WHEN PLANNING TO REPAIR, I WAS TOLD THE PART WAS ON BACKORDER AND DID NOT HAVE A DATE WHEN IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE STOCKED. THE CODE WAS CLEARED AND I WAS SENT ON MY WAY. AGAIN MY WHEEL HAS CONTINUED TO LOCK UP AND I HAVE NOW BEEN WITHOUT A VEHICLE FOR 3 DAYS. I HAVE GOOGLED THIS ISSUE AND IT SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON ISSUE ACROSS THE UNITED STATES

OCCASIONALLY WHEN LEAVING PARKING LOTS, MY 2013 FORD ESCAPE ENGINE WILL CUT OUT AND STALL CAUSING YOU TO HAVE TO TURN OFF AND RESTART THE VEHICLE. USUALLY THE VEHICLE WILL START RIGHT BACK UP AND OPERATE COMPLETELY FINE AFTER THAT, BUT OCCASIONALLY IT TAKES A LITTLE LONGER TO START UP. ONCE THE VEHICLE IS ON THE ROAD OR HIGHWAY, IT SEEMS TO BE OK. THIS ISSUE HAS ONLY HAPPENED IN PARKING LOTS OR WHEN PULLING OUT OF A STATIONERY SPACE AND IT DOES NOT HAPPEN EVERY SINGLE TIME MAKING THE ISSUE HARD TO RECREATE.

WHEN IT STARTED AGAIN IT WOULD ALSO HAVE SLUGGISH ACCELERATION LIKE IT HAD A SHIFTED INTO A GEAR THAT WAS TOO HIGH, OR WOULD WIND UP LIKE IT HAD SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL. AGAIN, IT WAS INTERMITTENT LIKE IT WAS A LOOSE WIRE OR BAD CIRCUIT. THEN IT STARTED INTERMITTENTLY MAKING A KIND OF A GRINDING NOISE AND SHORTLY AFTER THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS TOAST.

TAKATA RECALL PURCHASE A VEHICLE USED DEALER IN LAS VEGAS. THEY DIDN'T DISCLOSE THE CONDITION OF THE CAR INCLUDING THE TURBO LEAKING OIL, COOLANT RESERVOIR LEAKING, AND HEATER HOSE. THE CAR STOP WHILE DRIVING.
THIS HAS HAPPENED NOW (2) SEPARATE TIMES A MONTH APART. WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT 70-75 MPH THE VEHICLE WILL LOOSE POWER AND TELL ME TO PULL OVER. I AM NOT ABLE TO RESTART VEHICLE AND THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE WILL SPIKE TO HOT. THIS ALL HAPPENS IN A MATTER OF SECONDS WITH LITTLE OR NO TIME TO REACT AND PULL VEHICLE TO A SAFE SPOT. THERE HAS BEEN RADIATOR FLUID POURING OVER THE ENGINE ON BOTH TIMES THIS HAS HAPPENED AND IS NOW COSTING ME A LOT OF MONEY TO FIX. I FEEL THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH THE ESCAPE IN GENERAL AND NOT WITH JUST MINE.
MY BRAKES FAILED ON MY VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING HOME. MY MECHANIC HAS INFORMED ME THAT IT IS THE VACUUM PUMP WHICH PRESSURIZES THE POWER BRAKE SYSTEM.

I TOOK A VIDEO OF THIS TO SHOW THE DEALER. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AS I WAS ABOUT A MILE AWAY. THE TECH DETERMINED THAT THE FUEL JUMPER HOSE WAS BAD AND NEEDED REPLACED. I ASKED THEM IF MY VEHICLE WAS PART OF THE RECALL THAT DEALT WITH THIS EXACT ISSUE AND PART, THEY SAID NO. THE RECALL WAS FOR ESCAPES BUILT OUT OF THE LOUISVILLE, KY PLANT UP TO JULY 11, 2012, MINE WAS BUILT ON JULY 30, 2012 FROM THE LOUISVILLE, KY PLANT. COINCIDENCE, I DON'T THINK SO. FORDS WORDS FROM THE DEALER IS THEY ARE WASHING THEIR HANDS OF THIS AND THEN CHARGED ME ALMOST $300 TO FIX WHAT IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THESE VEHICLES. NOT EVEN A DAY LATER (18 HOURS) AFTER PICKING UP THE CAR MY VEHICLE OVERHEATS AND IS POURING RADIATOR FLUID ON THE GROUND. THE DEALER TOWED IT BACK TO THE SHOP AND IS LOOKING AT IT NOW. I KNOW THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS AS WELL, HOW MUCH DO YOU WANT TO BET MY VEHICLE IS JUST OUTSIDE THIS RECALL LIKE THE OTHER ONE.
