lost power, didn't seem to get into dive on freeway could't get power on to freeway when at a stop take time to get power up to a good speed Car at AAMCO for inspection needed to re build leaking bad brushing No did not get any warning warning light came on as i went to AAMCO of low coolant only
1-10-2022 I was driving to my mothers home and suddenly the car stopped driving,I pushed the foot pedal and nothing happened. I stopped and shifted gears to see if I could make it go, I had to get it towed, the person picking it up stated that this happens with 2014 ford escapes. I then went online to find a recall dated from 9-2018 on the transmission and several more recalls on this vechile. I take good care of my ford and I am dissapointed I have no warnings of any kind and now have no way to get to work.
While driving on a busy street the engine power suddenly dropped to zero, while multiple alert lights (including check engine) turned on. At the same time, the RPM of the vehicle increased significantly. Power steering stayed on, but the car would not move under its own power. There was just enough momentum to coast into a parking lot.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving approximately 2 - 25 MPH, there was an unknown grinding noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic who diagnosed the failure to be a rear axle failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 79,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, an audible chime was heard with an unknown message displayed before the vehicle decelerated to 25 MPH. The contact stated after turning off and restarting the vehicle, the failure was self-corrected but recurred. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure. The contact discovered later that the coolant reservoir was constantly low and coolant needed to be added frequently. On several occasions, coolant had leaked from the engine. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in the NHTSA Campaign Number 17V209000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The contact indicated that the vehicle had experienced the same failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 90,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would shake without warning. The contact also stated that the coolant needed to be frequently replenished. The failure persisted and the contact stated that the vehicle was starting to hesitate while depressing the accelerator pedal. Upon investigation, the contact discovered that coolant was leaking into one of the cylinders. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.
2014 Ford Escape AWD, driving on roadway and engine light came on. Vehicle was chugging at various times and able to reach home. Checked oil, was same color not milky. Drove to dealership, on way engine light flashed and then remained steady. Vehicle chugged off and on. Reached dealership. Assessment conducted by service tech. Complete engine failure and replacement needed. Coolant intrusion into block and spark plugs in cylinders 2 and 3 fused to block. Cost estimate at $8000.00. I am required to have dealership give me a salvage amount and applied to $5000.00 remaining balance. Another vehicle will be required to be purchased. My wife and me are retired on fixed income. Another dealership repair tech. advised this is an ongoing issue with these engines self distructing. Any assistance would be appreciated.
While driving on HWY 65-N, the interior lights came on and on the LCD we got a warning sound & message saying that the rear left door was open !!, we panic b/c our dog was in the back seat, we thought that he had open it, we rushed to the stop on the side of the hwy, we try, and try to closed the door, it never latched, we had to "secure" the door with my belt. very scary and dangerous situation. never got a warning about it; we went directly to the dealer that we bought it from, they inspected the problem, and said that we had to pay for the repair... why?
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving at various speeds the vehicle would overheat and produce smoke from the engine compartment. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was awaiting diagnostic testing. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V209000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 118,000. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE LEAKED COOLANT. ALSO, THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING ROUGH AND BLOWING SMOKE. THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.
Extremely dangerous: car is stalling while driving. Typically, this issue occurs when starting my vehicle and pulling out into the road. Majority of the time this has occurred in smaller/neighborhood streets without much traffic. However, there have been a few times this has occurred when pulling out into traffic, or worse: trying to make a left and being stuck in on-coming traffic. This issue has been on-going for over a year (date of the first occurrence reported below), but is very intermittently occurring. I have taken my vehicle into a mechanic and Ford certified dealership, and no codes show up. I’ve left my car with the dealership to attempt to recreate the issue, and they’ve been unable to. This has occurred at least 50 times by now. I’ve found plenty of forums of reports of the same issue occurring. One reference with hundreds of comments of people searching for answers how to fix the issue: https://www.fordescape.org/threads/engine-stalling-or-cutting-out-while-driving.22274/ Luckily, I have been fortunate to not have had an accident occur because of this malfunction…yet. There has never been a recall for this issue, and Ford should be held accountable. This is a very dangerous hazard!
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while at a complete stop, the vehicle would intermittently fail to accelerate upon the depression of the accelerator pedal without warning. As the failure persisted, the contact checked the engine and discovered that there was no coolant in the engine. Due to the failure, the contact had the vehicle towed to a dealer where the mechanic discovered that the coolant sensor was defective. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V209000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) which he linked to the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed him that his vehicle was not included in the recall. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 126,000.
All Lug nuts needed replaced due to swelling
While driving 75 mph down the highway the transmission failed with no warning lights or symptoms. Car wouldn't change gears and thankfully was able to exit the highway without an accident in a highly congested area. After pulling off the highway car would not move or go into reverse then transmission light came on. Only owner of vehicle and it was bought brand new from the dealership always being serviced by Ford. Dealership has advised the transmission failed though this should not happen at this mileage and the repair is a new transmission. This appears to be a known issue with this make and model of vehicle yet is continuing to happen. A faulty transmission that goes out with no warning while driving is a huge safety issue. Thankfully I was not hurt but Someone is going to get hurt or killed.
PREMATURE TRANSMISSION FAILURE WITH NO WARNING AT ALL WHILE TRAVELING AT 75 MILES PER HOUR ON THE HIGHWAY AND AN ACCIDENT WAS NARROWLY AVOIDED. CAR WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY DID CONFIRM THE TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. IT APPEARS THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE YET THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING TO HELP THE CONSUMER EXCEPT TELL THEM IT FAILED AND THEY HAVE TO REPLACE IT FOR $6000 DOLLARS. AFTER MUCH RESEARCH THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS SAME ISSUE ON THIS EXACT VEHICLE AND THE TRANSMISSION IS FAILING PEOPLE WHILE DRIVING WITHOUT WARNING - THIS IS GOING TO GET SOMEONE INJURED OR KILLED AS THERE IS NO WARNING OF POTENTIAL TRANSMISSION ISSUES - JUST FAILS WHILE DRIVING OUT OF NOWHERE AND ON VEHICLES THAT SHOULD NOT BE HAVING TRANSMISSION ISSUES YET. FORD IS DOING NOTHING ABOUT THIS BUT THEY KNOW OF THE ISSUE - THEY JUST LEAVE THE CARS OUT THERE SO SOMEONE CAN POSSIBLY GET HURT. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN AND I CANNOT BELIEVE THERE IS NOT A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE. THIS NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED IN FULL AND THE CONSUMERS TAKEN CARE OF AS YOU CANNOT KNOWLINGY PUT FAULTY TRANSMISSIONS IN CARS AND LET THE CONSUMER GET INJURED OR EVEN POSSIBLY KILLED.
LUG NUTS ON WHEELS i HAVE BEEN ASKED TO REPLACE THE FORD LUG NUTS FOR SWELLING FIRST....WHEN I PURCHASED NEW TIRES,AND I JUST WENT IN FOR SERVICE TO FORD AND THEY DIDNT SAY ANYTHING.
The car loses coolant but know leaks. The dash says coolant low so I add coolant to the reservoir and then it is fine till around a month and does it again so I do the same thing. Started doing it when got cold and use heater all the time. My daughter has a 2014 escape to and it is also doing it.
The contact’s mother owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 5 MPH, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where there was no cause for the failure determined. On another occasion, the contact stated that while driving 40 MPH, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that the vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring. The contact stated that the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a cracked engine block. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the coolant temperature and engine warning lights were illuminated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.
Coolant level sensor failed after repair for recall number 17S09. Mechanic reports that senior failed in same way as documented in the recall. However Ford refuses to conduct the repair a second time.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated while the vehicle was stationary, she became aware of a coolant leak. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with needing the coolant bypass valve to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but continued to experience the failure. The contact took the vehicle back to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with needing the coolant bypass valve to be replaced a second time. The vehicle was repaired but continued to experience the failure. The contact took the vehicle back to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with needing the coolant bypass hoses to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but continued to experience the failure. The contact took the vehicle back to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with needing the coolant bypass hoses to be replaced for a second time. The vehicle was repaired but continued to experience the failure. The contact towed the vehicle to another independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with needing the coolant bypass radiator hose and the coolant reservoir to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but continued to experience the failure. The contact took the vehicle back to the first independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with needing the coolant temperature sensor and the water outlet to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 111,000.
Transmission fault: engine suddenly reved high and didn’t move. Weird noise coming on and off. No prior warning or notifications with transmission
While driving in traffic the vehicle lost drive power and would not engage into gear. No warning lamps or dashboard signals. The safety of other drivers became clear as I had to move the car (while coasting) from lane to side of road. The dealership called this a catastrophic transmission failure of the pump and suggests a full transmission replacement. My incident could have been far worse if on highway or heavier traffic. This failure contributed to unsafe conditions. I’m reporting this because I’ve read about many other instances of the same transmission problem on the same model and make and year.
My warning light comes on and it says coolant is low. I add some coolant and the warning light goes off. In a month the same thing happens again. I add coolant again. I have to keep adding coolant approximately every month. There is no puddle under car and the heat temperature gauge stays the same in normal range. Also My Daughter’s 2014 Escape also does the same thing. Hers started doing it in November.
I have a coolant intrusion issue. This issue is causing a major problem to the engine and long block cylinders. This problem has occurred randomly causing the car to buffer, shut off on its own, and have white smoke come out of the exhaust and run terribly. I have taken this vehicle to multiple Ford Service centers in the last two years for its usual maintenance repairs and nobody has pointed out there has been an issue. My car is now in the shop with an $8,000 repair cost. Ford has decided to NOT fix the recall issue on my vehicle. This problem is a known issue for the 2014 Ford Escapes. I purchased this vehicle at Carmax and have paperwork saying there are 2 recalls associated with this vin. Manufacturer Number: 17S09 NHTSA Recall Number: 17V209 Recall Status: Recall incomplete The cycling head crack may cause an oil leak that may result in a fire in the engine compartment. This is an extremely dangerous issue for myself & others.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the front-end experienced shaking and vibrations. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the motor mount had fractured. The cause of the failure was not determined. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 90,000.
purge valve failed. car stalled with no warning in traffic at lights in busy intersection in the dark. I was stranded alone in winter thirty miles from home in the country. Finally a man assisted to push the car on a side road. Waited another hour alone for tow to Landmark Ford in Tigard Oregon. Dealer stated purge valve failed. Paid $700 to fix plus $250 for rental car. Found exact problem on Ford recall 18S32 Ford Focus same model years and engine type as my escape. Ford corporate stated they didn't issue a recall on the Escape because they didn't think it was a problem. This is a known issue with Ford Focus. Why wasn't a recall issue for the Escape?
I had a faulty instrument cluster repaired, which apparently is a recurring issue with this model of vehicle. In fact, my car is only 3 months outside the period that would have qualified it for a recall for this exact issue. It’s clear that this vehicle should have qualified for recall, as the mechanic who repaired it was happy to admit. Myself and other Escape owners who have experienced this same issue with slightly newer cars should be eligible as well.
I stopped at a light at a busy intersection and my car just died. No power whatsoever. After a couple of minutes I was able to start it. It’s almost occurred multiple times previously.
My transmission went out at 107,500 miles while going 85 on the highway after leaving work. I was pressing the gas, but my car would not accelerate. My car was at almost 5000 RPMs and making a terrible noise. I was able to coast into a parking lot. My car was struggling to shift from neutral to reverse and was making a loud revving noise even when idle. I was almost read-ended when my transmission went out and caused others to change lanes quickly to avoid hitting me. I was lucky that I did not get stranded in the middle lane of the highway. I had my vehicle towed to AAMCO who confirmed it was my transmission. The service representative I spoke to said that he drove my car around the block himself and got stranded in the middle of the road. He confirmed my transmission was reading multiple error codes and that it would need to be rebuilt. It is still currently being repaired, but they estimated it would be around $3300 to rebuild the transmission. There was no check engine light, and the only light that was on was a low tire pressure alert due to the sudden cold weather. On the way to work that day (about 8 hours prior to the incident), my car was making a loud noise but driving fine. Once I left work, I continued to notice the abnormal noise. I stopped at a red light then accelerated to turn at the intersection. Once I turned, I made it about a quart of a mile before my car stopped accelerating. I am waiting on the official findings from AAMCO to determine what the exact issue with the transmission is.
The ECO boost engine has a design flaw that makes the coolant not correctly cycle through the machine. Instead, it sits in the hot engine and vaporizes, eroding the engine over time and it can catch fire. There is a current class action lawsuit against FORD, which does not recognize this as a fault. I've had overheating problems where I can't drive my car.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 70 mph, the vehicle did not become inoperable as the vehicle failed to downshift and accelerate. In addition, the RPMs were rising to 4 but the vehicle was not shifting gears while the check engine light and check transmission warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 98,000.
My 2014 Ford Escape warning light comes on and says coolant is low so I add coolant and the warning light goes away. In another month this happens again so I add coolant again and light goes off. This happens approximately every month. The temperature gauge stays the same, it stays normal. My moms 2014 Escape does the same thing.
Intrusion of the antifreeze into the cylinders causing misfires .
Vehicle stalls many times while driving usually after starting vehicle and take off . Check engine light came on there was a code for fuel pump or fuel pressure. Looks like there may be a recall on my vehicle as well unsure as to next steps, I dont want to get in a accident need fixed asap
It is an ongoing issue with the 2014 escape. They had a recall out for the coolant system. A healthy engine does not use coolant. I kept having it checked it had no visible leaks but was losing coolant No visible leaks. I got an engine light I took the car to Ford dealer here in Scarborough Toronto he told me the car coolant has been leaking into engine blocks. The dealer is claiming it has nothing to do with the recall. Ford won't fix it and is saying it's not part of the recall. They are saying I have to replace my whole engine. It is a 2014 Ford escape with 110000Km on it.
I was driving down the road on my way home from the store my car suddenly stalled on me. I would have been rear ended had I not been able to pull over on the side of the road because a car was right behind me. I was fortunate to be able to not hit ant trees or mailboxes on the side of the road or that there was not a deep ditch! It could have been a bad wreck with deadly injuries. The engine was still running even though it loss power. There was no warning. The engine light never came on. I tried getting back on the the road, the car would barely go and was making a grinder /wining noise.Still on engine light or warning. I managed to get to my drive way, then the gear slipped and the car jerked bad! I was able to get it in the driveway! I had it towed to a automotive shop. The technician determined I have transmission failure! I am having to get a new transmission!!! I the car has 58,000 miles on it when it happened. It’s my understanding that this has happened to other people with 2014 Ford Escape.
Battery dies, for no apparent reason, alternator test done and was good. After putting in drive car started forward then trans slipped and car stalled would not restart. Vehicle had to be towed. Replaced battery 2 times before and still drains and dies. Checked system for power drains and found none.
The car continues to have a leak of coolant even after the dealership claims it has been repaired. There is no visible sign of a coolant leak. The engine continues to run hot on a daily basis. The car does not even give a signal warning until it has already reached high temperatures and then states to shut the engine down immediately. The service center refuses to inspect my car as they state the recall has already been repaired. It appears to be an on going problem with 2014 1.6L Escape engines.
The contact's niece owned a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while his niece was driving at 60-65 MPH, she saw smoke coming from underneath the hood of the vehicle. The coolant warning light illuminated. The contact stated that as his niece veered to the side of the road and exited the vehicle, she saw fire underneath the vehicle. The contact's niece was able to extinguish the fire with the assistance of the fire department. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard where it was totaled. The used car dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact that they could not assist as the VIN was not included in the recall for NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V209000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). The approximate failure mileage was 125,000.
Vehicle got a steering assist fault on information center. At that time, loss of power steering. It is electric power steering for this vehicle. Was unable to steer vehicle at this time. Did not cause a diagnostic code. Searched online and many issues with this vehicle. Ford says nothing is wrong. Someone will get hurt if this is not fixed. The amount of people having this issue is a manufacture defect and should be fixed as such.
Our Escape keeps stating it has low coolant, we refill it and within a week it has low coolant again. Also after driving there is a strong antifreeze smell outside of the vehicle.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving at an unknown speed, the power steering assist fault warning message appeared on the instrument panel. The contact's daughter used excessive force to drive the vehicle home. Due to the failure, the contact had the vehicle towed to a dealer. The contact was informed that the steering rack assembly needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed her that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The contact filed a case and was referred to NHTSA for assistance. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.
Vehicle stalled while driving around 45mph while in traffic this has happened 2 times now and mechanics were unsure of issue.
In brief, It is my contention that safety recall# 17S09 service was not performed in its entirely on my vehicle and likely several others by the dealerships. The dealerships only replaced the engine coolant sensors & the motor mounts per their understanding of the recall instructions but did not replace the coolant system hoses as instructed in the Dec 13th correspondence to the dealers. After having several problems with coolant leakages in my vehicle which caused the check engine light to come on it was discovered that I had multiple hoses leaking. I spoke with a service manager at the dealership that performed my recall service in April/2018 about the hoses not being replaced which was my current problem? I was informed this was not what the dealerships were instructed to do by Ford Motors in their recall notices to them. Two different dealerships I visited were oblivious to this recall mandate. In the meantime I have incurred nearly $1500 in repair expenses because the recall that was investigated and mandated by NHTSA in 2017 was not performed in its entirety although Ford Motors assured this would be addressed in the recall. Investigation needed/warranted.
Light went off for low tire pressure. Rear passenger side tire was low. Filled with air and drove for a couple weeks; light again went off. Filled tire again and took to service center this morning to see if something had penetrated tire or if bead had loosened. Service center found nail in tire and repaired. They had to replace 4 lug nuts as they were swollen. (I didn’t even know this was possible!). A simple and inexpensive tire repair turned into more than expected, which is rough when you’re on a small, fixed income. My fear is that I will eventually have the same experience/expense, at some point in time, with the other three tires. As a side note, and something that maybe should be filed as a separate complaint, is that the back-up camera malfunctions frequently…sometimes with image appearing upside down or a completely black screen. I spoke with two separate repair shops and was told it couldn’t be fixed…had to be replaced…and was quoted over $500 to replace it…obviously something I cannot afford to do. Was told it’s a common issue on Escapes, yet there have been no recalls for this issue. If we’re really trying to improve safety, then maybe this issue needs to be addressed as well. I have heard they will be required on new cars in the future; but something needs to be done about existing failures…and to set a standard regarding future failures on those new cars. My camera went out after warranty expiration, so I had no way to afford to fix it. Ford should stand behind their product and replace these defective cameras. My car now has 95,207 miles on it, and the camera failed over a year ago. I wouldn’t think a 7-year-old (6-year-old at time of failure) car with less than 100,000 miles on it should have that type of failure. Ford needs to use better equipment or offer better warranties. For most of us, $500 is a pretty substantial expense, and I’ll bet there are a lot of Escapes with defective cameras that people can’t afford to fix.
Coolant is leaking into the engine, Ford is aware of this issue and has owners install an engine coolant sensor to avoid a potential fire risk. This was done with this vehicle however it obviously does not fix the underlying problem.
Vehicle continues to lose coolant. No visible leaks. Vehicle previously tested for coolant loss. Dealership performed pressure test. Tested satisfactory. Problem has persisted. FORD has issued a recall for coolant loss. Contacted FORD, told my vehicle is not on the recall list. My vehicle has the 1.6l ecoboost engine that has a known problem of coolant leaking into the cylinders. FORD customer service is unable to explain why my vehicle is not part of the recall, only saying my VIN is not part of the coolant recall. At some point my vehicle will suffer catastrophic engine failure or a fire. FORD has put coolant level sensors in vehicles with this engine. This does not solve the leaking problem, but at least monitors coolant level. My VIN strangely does not qualify for this.
