THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO CRESCENT FORD (100 OLD WINSTON RD, HIGH POINT, NC 27265) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP PRESSURE SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE VIN WAS INVALID. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 41,000.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the rearview camera displayed a distorted image while the vehicle was in reverse(R). The contact stated that the failure obstructed the driver's visibility, which prevented the driver from safely operating the vehicle. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the electrical system on the rearview camera had failed. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The rearview camera display a blue image, compromising the back-over prevention system. The message "Back up camera not available" was displayed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired after the most recent failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided the contact with a case number and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was unknown.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE DRIVING IN FRONT ABRUPTLY STOPPED AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED BUT THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF THE OTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL ODOR IN THE VEHICLE WHEN THE AIR BAG FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO HIS RIGHT SHOULDER AND CHEST ALONG WITH UPPER BACK INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A COLLISION CENTER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH INTERNAL CONTROL MODULE SOFTWARE INCOMPATIBILITY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE HAD A PREVIOUS ACCIDENT IN 2014 WHERE THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED THEN. BACK WINDSHIELD SHATTERED WHEN DRIVER SIDE DOOR WAS CLOSED. NO APPARENT CRACKS IN WINDOW PRIOR TO THIS HAPPENING. AFTER REPLACING THE REAR WINDSHIELD, THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN WITHIN 24 HOURS OF IT BEING REPLACED. HAVE ONLY OWNED THE VEHICLE FOR APPROX. 45 DAYS. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND NOT RUNNING BOTH TIMES.
THE CAR WAS STOPPED AND THEN PUT INTO 'REVERSE' WHERE IT SUCCESSFULLY REVERSED FROM A PARKING LOT ONTO A RESIDENTIAL STREET. WHEN PUT DIRECTLY INTO 'DRIVE' THE CAR CONTINUED TO REVERSE. AT THIS POINT THE SHIFTER CONTROL CABLE BROKE AND/OR STOPPED WORKING NOT ALLOWING THE CAR TO BE PUT INTO ANY GEAR OTHER THAN 'PARK'. THE CAR WAS THEN PUT INTO 'PARK' WHERE IT STAYED STATIONARY IN A COMPROMISING POSITION UNTIL IT COULD BE TOWED.
MY FORD HAS ONLY 3200 MILES PURCHASED 01/28/2015. THE DEALER SET THE BACK BRAKE ROTORS NEEDED TO MACHINED DOWN. I DID NOT AGREE AND DEMANDED NEW ROTORS BE INSTALLED DUE TO MY BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY 3 YEARS OR 36,000 MILES. THE FORD DEALER REFUSED SAID THIS IS NOT FORD'S POLICY. DEALER SAID MAYBE I DO NOT DRIVE IT ENOUGH. I SAID THAN WHY AREN'T THE FRONT ROTORS THE SAME WAY. THIS FORD DEALER WAS HOFFMAN FORD IN HARRISBURG PA. I WENT TO ANOTHER DEALER AND HAD A DISCUSSION ABOUT MY BRAKE ROTOR PROBLEM. THAT DEALER STATED THAT MANY OF THE PARTS ARE MANUFACTURED OVERSEAS AND SOMETIMES THE ROTORS ARE NOT HARDENED ENOUGH. TO SATISFY THE CUSTOMER THEY WOULD HAVE PUT NEW ROTORS ON THE VEHICLE. MY CONCERNED IS A POSSIBLE RECALL SHOULD BE MADE ON THESE VEHICLES DUE TO A POSSIBLE SAFETY ISSUE I AM DEMANDING MY FORD ESCAPE HAVE NEW ROTORS ON THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE DUE TO LOW MILEAGE OF ONLY 3,200 MILES WHEN THE CAR WAS TAKEN INTO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE I TOLD THEM THE ROTORS ARE MOST LIKELY TOO SOFT AND THAT IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. AGAIN, THEY REFUSED AND MACHINED THE ROTORS DOWN NOW I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE ROTORS. I ALSO ASKED THEM TO REPLACE THE BRAKE PADS BUT THEY REFUSED. ANY VEHICLE REPAIR SHOP KNOWS IF YOU MACHINE THE ROTORS YOU ALSO NEED TO REPLACE THE BRAKE PADS. I CONSIDER THIS A MAJOR SAFETY VIOLATION AND I ALSO WANT TO FILE A COMPLAINT AGAINST HOFFMAN FORD DEALERSHIP FOR FAILURE TO FOLLOW FORDS WARRANTY WORK. I BELIEVE CUSTOMERS ALL OVER THE COUNTRY ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE BUT FORD IS COVERING UP THE SOFT ROTOR PROBLEM DUE TO COST OF REPLACEMENT, YOU CAN CONTACT ME AT *** *******. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,967.
ENGINE LIGHT KEEPS ON AND OFF WITH NOT A REASON AND WHEN I BRING THE CAR FOR AN OILS CHANGE INTO THE DEALER THEY ARE SAYING THAT IS NOT IMPORTANT AND IT IS GOING OFF WHEN THE OIL IS CHANGED. I ALSO NOTICE THAT THE CAR IS VERY SHORT AFTER THE GENTLY BREAKDOWN. THE OTHER ISSUE IS THE UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION ITSELF, EVEN IF I DO NOT USE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THIS HAPPENS ANYWHERE ANYHOW AND WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION.
DECEMBER 3 2016 I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD ON HWY 111 AND THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN. I COASTED OVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AND PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DISPLAYED ENGINE FAILURE, IMMEDIATE ATTENTION REQUIRED. SMOKE WAS COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND RAISED THE HOOD AND FLAMES STARTED COMING FROM THE ENGINE AREA AND SPREAD VERY QUICKLY. I CALLED 911 TO PUT THE FIRE OUT. CAUSE OF FIRE IS UNKNOWN. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILLED OUT BUT I DON'T HAVE IT AT THIS TIME.

NOVEMBER 21ST, 2016 RACK AND PINION FAILED AT 32,300 MILES ON A 2014 FORD ESCAPE 4X4 TITANIUM. 2.0 TURBO. DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS DEFECTIVE AND UNIT WAS MAKING A "RATCHET" NOISE WHEN TURNED. DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS ALL COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND REPLACED UNIT AT NO CHARGE. ONE MONTH LATER SERVICE MANAGER CALLED ME AND SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, EVEN THOUGH MY VEHICLE IS LESS THAN THREE YEARS OLD AND HAD UNDER 36,000 MILES, EVEN AT THE TIME THEY CALLED IN DECEMBER 2016. LAST FORD I WILL EVER OWN. THIS IS MY WIFE'S CAR AND THE PORSCHE DEALERSHIP THAT SERVICES MY VEHICLE NEVER TREATS ME LIKE THIS. DEALERSHIP EXPECTS ME TO PAY THE BILL NOW. AFTER TELLING ME PREVIOUSLY IT WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY.THINKING ABOUT GETTING A LAWYER JUST FOR PRINCIPLE OF THE ISSUE TO DEAL WIH THE DEALERSHIP.
THIS CAR HAS LESS THAN 44 MILES AND IS ALL BREAKING DOWN, WHEN THE BATTERY WHEN DOWN ALL ELECTRICAL PARTS ARE NOT WORKING CORRECTLY WINDOWS ARE GOING UP AND DOWN WITH OUT PUSHING THE BUTTON, LIGHTS TURN ON AND OF BY THEN SELF'S, IS JUST TO NEW TO HAPPEN ALL THIS PROBLEM, HA MONEY THAT THEY CHARGE (DEALER ) IS TO EXPENSIVE, AND I SUPPOSE PAID EVERY MAINTENANCE FOR INSPECTION TO SEE IF MY CAR IS DOING OK , LAST TIME THEY INSPECTED AND DIDNT SEE THE BATTERY PROBLEM , THE MISSING SCREW IN THE CONTAINER OF REFRIGERANT, AND LOW OIL LEVEL IN THE BRAKE CONTAINER. THAT NOT HAVE WARRANTY ANY MORE , LIKE THEY KNOW ALL READY THAT IT WILL BE PROBLEM WITH THE ELECTRICAL PART. I THINK THIS CARS ARE THE WORSE WHEN THEY ARE ELECTRICALL OR TO MUCH "TECHNOLOGY" I WAS IN LOS ANGELES AREA FAR AWY FROM HOME AND A PLACE THAT SEEM DANGEROUS..... IT WASNT SAFETY TO BE IN THAT PLACE WITH MY BROKEN NEW CAR. THE BACK WINDSHIELD SHATTERED WITH NO WARNING OR APPARENT CAUSE. THE FORCE BEHIND THE BREAK WAS SUCH THAT IT CAUSED THE SIDE FRAMES TO FALL MORE THAN 3 FEET FROM EITHER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. MY VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY OVERNIGHT. THE WEATHER WAS TEMPERATE. IT DOES NOT APPEAR TO HAVE HAD ANY OUTSIDE CAUSE; THE GLASS IS ALL ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE CAR.

THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE DASHBOARD SEPARATED FROM THE FRAME AND IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,000.
VEHICLE STALLS AT LEAST OPPORTUNE MOMENTS, I.E. HIGHWAYS/ROADWAYS. DROVE IT FOR 30-40 MILES.SHUT IT DOWN FOR 30 MINUTES. START IT BACK UP, START DRIVING, VEHICLE STALLS WITHIN 30 SECONDS TO ONE MINUTE. RESTART THE VEHICLE, IT WOULD BUCK AND STALL REPEATEDLY. IF YOU LET IT COOL DOWN, IT WOULD RUN FOR A LENGTH OF TIME BEFORE IT WOULD ACT UP ALL OVER AGAIN WITH THE ABOVE MENTIONED STEPS REPEATED. HAD IT IN THE DEALERSHIP (AUTONATION FORD - BRADENTON FL) FOR ALMOST 3 FULL MONTHS AS THEY TRIED TO FIND THE ISSUE, IN 4 SEPARATE TRIPS. EACH TIME THEY WERE CONFIDENT THAT THEY FOUND THE PROBLEM. 1ST WAS A LOSE WIRE ON THE MECHANICAL FUEL PUMP. NOT FIXED. DROVE FOR 1.5 WEEKS. SAME STALL ISSUE. 2ND WAS A MECHANICAL FUEL PUMP REPLACEMENT. NOT FIXED. DROVE FOR 1.5 WEEKS. SAME STALL ISSUE. 3RD. PROBLEM COULDN'T BE FOUND. DROVE FOR 1.5 WEEKS. SAME STALL ISSUE. 4TH WAS A FUEL LINE SENSOR REPLACEMENT. SEEMS TO WORK SO FAR. THESE VEHICLES SEEM TO HAVE A BAD ISSUE WITH THE FUEL SYSTEM WITH NUMEROUS RECALLS ON A WIDE RANGE OF MODEL YEARS.

WHILE DRIVING ON THE HWY AT 72MPH ON CRUISE CONTROL, THE TRANSFER CASE FAILED, CAUSING THE CAR TO LOSE GEAR COMPLETELY. THIS CAUSED THE RPMS TO SKYROCKET AND THE CAR TO IMMEDIATELY BEGIN SLOWING DOWN - RESULTING IN SIGNIFICANT SAFETY RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH SURROUNDING TRAFFIC. UNKNOWN WHAT CAUSED THE TRANSFER CASE TO FAIL.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request?-Coolant/temperature sensor causing the vehicle to overheat, cylinder head to crack, and coolant leak into the engine. Safety jeopardized?-Yes, the car was then burning the coolant and it was entering the air and inhaled. Possible connection to a confirmed cancer case in the main driver. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center?-Yes, it was reported to two separate Ford dealerships a total of 5 times. Each time the dealership told me they could not diagnose the problem. I took the car to an independent service center and it was confirmed the head was visibly cracked in 3 locations and the car was burning coolant and emitting it through the exhaust. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others?-The vehicle has been to Ford dealerships and inspected for service, recalls, and multiple times for this specific issue. Were there any warning lamps?-No warning lamps, no other symptoms prior to the failure. I purchased the vehicle from Fred Beans Ford, West Chester in Feb. 2016. In Oct. 2016 the vehicle overheated without any warning lamps or messages and it was towed to Fred Beans Ford. The service department stated there were no issues with the vehicle but replaced the temperature sensor that was recalled. The problem continued with the coolant level decreasing and no leaks could be found. The vehicle was taken to Fred Beans for a coolant leak 3 additional times and each time I was told they could not diagnose it and they just refilled the coolant. After this I checked the coolant daily and refilled it if needed to the appropriate level. October 2021 I took it to New Holland Ford where they could not diagnose it. May 2021 an independent center and machine shop where 3 cracks were found in the head causing coolant to leak into the engine and come out the exhaust.

MY MOTHER OWNS A 2014 FORD ESCAPE WITH THE 1.6L TURBOCHARGED ECOBOOST ENGINE. SHE NOTES THAT THE FUEL SENSORS IN THE CAR AREN'T INJECTING FUEL INTO THE ENGINE WHEN SHE ACCELERATES FROM A STOP, MEANING THE CAR WILL STICK IN NEUTRAL AND REV UNTIL IT KICKS BACK IN GEAR.
