There are many thousands of Ford Escape owners with this same issue. The shifter knob will not shift out of park in hot weather, sometimes taking 20 to 30 minutes for the vehicle's interior to cool sufficiently to shift into drive. Ford is ignoring this problem. I don't understand why they are looking the other way and not fixing this well-known issue.
The rear liftgate, while open (and while I was loading/unloading items), will randomly close on its own. It does signal it is about to through very low volume beeps but it has done this some 20 times randomly in the last week. Several days ago it closed on my head, taking off a slice of skin on my scalp, knocking me down face forward onto/into the rear bumper, injuring my face/upper lip as well. This is a known/documented issue on many vehicles via many Ford Escape forms, which suggest having the key fob in your pocket or on your person is the culprit and sends the car into a frenzy.
Ford Escape Titanium 2020 purchased 8/2020. Transmission issues began 5/21/21. Car slowed on highway with gas pedal pushed to the ground then surged and lunged. Several warning lights and I had it towed to a dealership. BCE module reprogram. car continued lunging, surging as well as shuddering. Stopped in several times to be told nothing wrong, no recalls, couldn't replicate. 4/19/2023 car still surging , esp at speeds of 30-50mph or less. Dealership found no issue. 6/20/238/2023 wrench light along with surging at or below 50mph. Couldn't replicate. 8/23/2023 insisted Mechanic drive with me. Issue noted immediately! Had car 2 months. dealer contacted Ford - no recall but engineers getting similar reports. Replaced spark plugs and transfer case control. Did not fix issue.12/5/23 post inspection told rear shocks wearing out (36,000 miles). 2/5/24 surging 20-40 mph and Check Engine light on. Dealer replaced/purge vapor management valve and cannister purge valves. Continued to express safety concerns. 2/23/24 car speed slowed from 70 to 10 mph on highway and was surging going up ramps. Insisted transmission techs and manager ride with me and immediately registered issues. Asked them to check Driver side door due to problems reported online. told no recall. Complete transmission overhaul (NOT REPLACED) and returned 3/25/24. On 4/11 driver door started making noises. Scheduled 4/19 service on 4/16 was unable to shut car door and had towed to dealership. Door recall that day. Dealer had car from 4/16 through 7/11 to replace doors and rear shocks. Service department initiated buyback. Ford denied and will not provide written reason. I Called Ford customer service and with permission recorded call with rep and then her manager who would not forward my call to another department and told me my only recourse was to file a complaint with the BBB. Car still shuddering and surging. So was loaner car- dealer and mechanic insinuated it may be "characteristic" of model!!!!
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the bracket that connects the driver’s side door to the body of the vehicle had fractured causing the driver’s side door to not close properly. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed with needing the door bracket to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not under recall. The failure mileage was approximately 16,655.
Titanium or SEL editions have a 10 speaker B&O stereo with a 6x9 ‘subwoofer’ located in the right rear cargo area. The speaker hums/vibrates/shakes loudly through all volume levels - it is a KNOWN issue with Ford that the screws securing the speaker in to its mount are cheap and often come loose, casing loud vibrations. Tightening them back up is time consuming and only a temporary fix
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the weld on the driver's side front door had fractured. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was determined that the door weld check unit had fractured. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
THE SEATS HAVE METAL PROTRUDING FROM THE REAR PORTION WHERE YOUR TAILBONE WOULD REST. IT'S NOT JUST UNCOMFORTABLE, IT BECOMES PAINFUL THE LONGER YOU DRIVE. I WAS TOLD THE SEAT HEATERS WERE IMPROPERLY INSTALLED IN THE BEGINNING OF THE MANUFACTURE PROCESS FOR 2020 FORD ESCAPES. IF THEY KNOW THEY INSTALLED THEM INCORRECTLY, WHY WON'T THEY FIX THEIR MISTAKE?
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Escape. The contact stated while reversing at approximately 3 MPH, there was an abnormal sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer to be diagnosed; however, the mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the failure. THE CONTACT TOWED THE VEHICLE TO AUTONATION FORD VALENCIA (23920 CREEKSIDE RD, VALENCIA, CA 91355, (661) 382-4700) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE ELECTRICAL WIRING WAS SOY BASED WHICH ATTRACTED RODENTS AND THAT THE WIRES HAD BEEN CHEWED THROUGH. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE WIRING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT YET BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
I was at a red light behind 4 cars, when as I look into the rearview mirror when I saw a white van coming at me at cruising speed. As I turned the steering wheel to the left, purposely trying to avoid the vehicle in front of me, the white van slammed into me and caused me to hit my head on the steering wheel and the window. I had my seat belt on, but I was hit so hard that the car frame was bent and I was hurt. I was informed that the reason not one of my airbags went off in the front of my car was, I was hit in the rear. If I would have let my car hit the car in front of me, I would have been protected by the airbags in the front. This is a serious issue and this complaint is to request the NTSB look into requiring all vehicles to have sensors throught out the car to keep drivers and passangers should remain as steady
CAR JERKS OFF TO THE SIDE OF THERE IS A TURN LANE, ALMOST PULLED STEERING WHEEL OUT OF MY HANDS. DOES THIS EVERY TIME I GO BY A TURN LANE AT ANY SPEED
REAR TRUNK FAILS TO OPEN UPON FIRST STARTUP OF CAR
THE HANDS FREE LIFT GATE SOMETIME WORKS AND THEN OTHER TIMES IT WILL NOT. THE OTHER DAY AT THE CAR WASH THE TAILGATE WOULD RELEASE WHEN I WOULD WALK BEHIND THE VEHICLE WHILE WASHING IT. ALSO, THE LAST TIME I FILLED VEHICLE WITH GAS AND CLEANED THE REAR GLASS WITH WATER THE TAILGATE WOULD AUTOMATICALLY RELEASE

The contact's spouse, an independent mechanic, stated that it seemed as though there might have been a failure with the parking brake. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the dealer was unable to determine the cause of the howling noise while the vehicle was shifted into reverse due to not being able to duplicate the sound. The dealer stated that the clicking noise while depressing the brake pedal was diagnosed as a parking brake failure. The vehicle had not been repaired due to not being covered under recall or warranty. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure where it was confirmed that the repairs were not covered by a recall or warranty. The failure mileage was unknown.
THE DRIVER'S SEAT IS EXTREMELY UNCOMFORTABLE. THERE IS A LUMP OR BULGE IN THE BACK PART OF THE BOTTOM CUSHION THAT HITS YOUR TAILBONE.
OUR PRE-COLLISION LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON FOR NO REASON. NORTHGATE FORD WON'T DEACTIVATE IT FOR ME. IT GOES OFF RANDOMLY AND IT'S A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE SINCE I COULD WRECK MY ESCAPE. THE WHOLE DASHBOARD LIGHTS UP IN AN ORANGE COLOR AND IT DINGS REPEATEDLY.

Front passenger door is coming apart - literally the inside structure is separating from the frame of the car. The driver door is automatically locking even when key fob is in the car. When rolling up windows- the Automatic windows continue to roll up and down without touching the buttons. Engine is puttering upon start up- low idling. The engine cuts out when pressing gas upon driving.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Escape. The contact stated that the driver’s side door was emitting a clicking sound while the door was moved. The contact stated that the door weld had fractured. The window failed to roll up automatically due to the failure. The back of the driver’s side seat had started tearing which exposed the frame of the seat. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who replaced the door however, the failure persisted due to parts from the old door being used to secure the new door. The seat had not been repaired. The dealer was informed of the failure however, the vehicle had not been taken to the dealer for additional repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 68,000.
MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP (NORTHGATE FORD) SO MANY TIMES AND THEY SAID THAT THERE'S NOTHING WRONG. THE SERVICE MANAGER WENT OUT WITH US AND SAW IT WASN'T WORKING PROPERLY. MY CAR ISN'T SAFE TO DRIVE AS THE LANE KEEPING SYSTEM TRIED TAKING ME OFF THE ROAD SO MANY TIMES. THE DEALERSHIP WANTS ME TO TRADE MY CAR IN AND I SAID ABSOLUTELY NOT. I DON'T WANT ANYONE KILLED BECAUSE OF THE PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE.

MY ESCAPE CROSS TRAFFIC ALERT SYSTEM ONLY WORKS HALF THE TIME AND YESTERDAY IT DIDN'T WORK AT ALL. IT'S BEEN AT NORTHGATE FORD SO MANY TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT IT'S STILL NOT FIXED.
The driver's seat has something protruding (seat heater?) into your tailbone which causes pain and discomfort. The constant adjusting to get comfortable (grabbing the steering wheel to pull myself forward) and slower reaction due to pain and numbness is a hazard waiting to happen. I have not addressed this with my local dealership as they had my car for 7 weeks and only fixed the recall issue (window switch) and none of the other 5 issues I took it in for.
MY PRE-COLLISION LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON RANDOMLY. MY DASHBOARD LIGHTS UP AND CHIMES FOR NO REASON. NORTHGATE FORD SAID MY ESCAPE IS WORKING FINE.

PURCHASED A 2020 FORD ESCAPE ON 10-31-2020. ON 11-23-20-11-24-20 I GOT MESSAGES ABOUT THE TRANSMISSION AND MY WIFE COULDN'T PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE AFTER GOING TO THE STORE. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER THEY DIDN'T EVEN CHECK THE TRANSMISSION ONLY THE ENGINE AND COMPUTER SYSTEM. ENDED UP BACK IN THERE THE SAME DAY 5 TIMES BECAUSE THE ANTI CRASH AND BRAKE SYSTEMS WASN'T WORKING. THE SERVICE TECH THEN DROVE IT AROUND THE CORNER 5 DIFFERENT TIMES TO GET THE COMPUTER SYSTEM TO KICK IN. EIGHT DAYS LATER 12-4-20 I GET STUCK IN MY FRIENDS DRIVEWAY. THE CAR WOULDN'T GO IN REVERSE. FINALLY IT DID AFTER 20 MINUTES. I TAKE THE CAR BACK AND IT NEEDS A NEW TRANSMISSION. THE COMPUTER SYSTEM AND POWER TRAIN, CRASH ASSISTANCE, ANTI COLLISION SYSTEM WASN'T WORKING EITHER. THEY HAD JUST RECEIVED THE VEHICLE ON 10-27-20. THE CAR WAS PICKED OUT FOR ME BY THE SALES REP AND IT WASN'T FROM OFF THE LOT IT WAS IN THE BACK. I TRULY BELIEVE THEY KNEW THE WHOLE CAR WAS BAD. THEY'VE HAD MY CAR SINCE THE 12-4-20 AND I'M STILL RESPONSIBLE FOR IT AND THE LOANER CAR. THE SALES MANAGER AND GENERAL MANAGER TOLD ME I'LL HAVE TO SUE THEM USING THE LEMON LAW OF ANYTHING ELSE GOES WRONG. IT WILL AND THEY KNOW IT. I HAVE SEVERAL REPORTS THAT THE TRANSMISSIONS ON THE 2020 ESCAPE IS ONE OF THE MAIN ISSUES. I ALSO HAVE ALL THE REPORTS SENT TO MY PHONE FROM FORD PASS. I ALSO HAVE A VEHICLE HISTORY REPORT THAT THE BRAKES, POWER TRAIN SYSTEM, AND RESTRAINTS AND DRIVER ASSISTANCE NEEDS REPAIRED ALSO. THIS OCCURRED IN JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA. ALL THESE ISSUES MAKE THIS VEHICLE UNSAFE FOR ANYONE.

THE ENGINE LIGHT IN MY 2020 FORD ESCAPE KEEPS COMING ON. I TOOK IT TO ADAMSON, NOW STIVERSON DEALERSHIP, A PART WAS INSTALLED ON THE SECOND VISIT. TWO DAYS LATER, THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. I WAITED ONE WEEK UNTIL I COULD GET AN APPOINTMENT TO RETURN TO THE DEALERSHIP ON OCTOBER 22, 2020. AFTER WAITING ALL DAY, I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THEY HAD NOT HAD A CHANCE LOOK AT THE VEHICLE. I RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP ON OCTOBER 23, 2020 TO HAVE THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINE THE PROBLEM.
