INDEPENDENT FRONT TORSION BAR SNAPPED WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 5 TO 10 MPH OVER A SPEED BUMP. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL NFORMATION/ATTACHMENTS.*AK
FROM A PARKING SPACE AT A STRIP MALL I BACKED INTO A 3' CONCRETE POLE, WHEN I APPLIED MY FOOT TO THE BRAKE AND PUT THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE , THE VEHICLE SPED OFF AS IF I HAD FLOORED THE ACCELERATOR. NO AMOUNT OF PUMPING THE BRAKES DID ANY GOOD. I HIT TWO OTHER CARS, TOOK OUT A BRICK COLUMN AND DIDN'T STOP UNTIL I HIT A SECOND BRICK COLUMN. WITNESSES SAY THAT THEY DID SEE BRAKE LIGHTS ON MY VEHICLE. *AK
A HIGH-END AFTER MARKET WHEEL SPLIT OPEN -WITH NO ABUSE. CO. SAYS NOT COVERED BY 2ND OWNER/SEEK KNOWLEDGE OF OTHER FAILURES OF THIS MFGR. TOO IMPORTANT OF A PIECE OF EQUIP. TO IGNORE. HOW MANY OTHER DEFECTS?*AK
CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING 55MPH IN MIDDLE LANE AND MOVED TO RIGHT AFTER HEARING SOMETHING BUCKLING FROM PASSENGER'S FRONT TIRE. CONSUMER WAS TURNING ON TO EXIT RAMP AND TIRE CAME OFF. VEHICLE WAS TOWED, AND THEY FOUND THAT NUTS: BOLTS HAD BROKEN OFF. CONSUMER'S INSURANCE ADJUSTER HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT. CONSUMER WILL CHECK TO SEE IF THE RECALL ID# 98V095000 MANUFACTRER RECALL 98S14 WILL APPLY.*AK
BOTH SWAY BAR END LINKS FAILED-- RIGHT IN 3/01 AND THE LEFT JUST FAILED IN 8/01. HANDLING GOES BAD WITH EXCESS FRONT BODY ROLL. DESIGN IS POOR WITH A SINGLE LONG BOLT THAT IS OVER STRESSED AND CORRODES, THEN FAILS. IT IS NOT EASY FOR THE AVERAGE CONSUMER TO EVEN DETECT THAT IT HAPPENED UNLESS YOU GET UNDER THE CAR AND LOOK.
DUE TO ICY ROAD CONDITIONS, THE VEHICLE SLID OFF THE ROAD, IMPACTING THE PASSENGER SIDE AT A POINT BETWEEN THE FRONT FENDER AND FRONT DOOR. A FIRE STARTED IMMEDIATELY AT POINT OF IMPACT, UNDER THE HOOD. THE DRIVER EXITED THE VEHICLE, ONLY TO NOTICE THAT THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING. SHE REACHED BACK INTO THE VEHICLE AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. THE FIRE SPREAD VERY RAPIDLY AND ENVELOPED THE ENTIRE VEHICLE, DESTROYING IT COMPLETELY. IT IS OUR UNDERSTANDING THE VEHICLE'S INERTIA SWITCH SHOULD HAVE SHUT OFF THE FUEL SYSTEM, KILLING THE ENGINE. OBVIOUSLY THE INERTIA SWITCH DID NOT WORK BECAUSE THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN AFTER IMPACT. THE DRIVER WOULD PROBABLY HAVE BEEN BURNED TO DEATH HAD SHE BEEN RENDERED UNCONSCIOUS BY THE IMPACT, AS THERE WAS NO ONE PRESENT WHEN THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED IN A WOODED SECTION OF STATE ROUTE 271, CAMBRIA COUNTY, PA.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 20 MPH HEARD A SNAP AND VEHICLE FRONT END SUNK DOWN. TOOK TO MECHANIC, AND THEY SAID IT WAS TORSION BAR. *AK

FOIL BACKING OF MIRROR I PEELING, BUBBLING. THIS DOES NOT PROVIDE A REFLECTION FOR VIEWING. ALL MAKES FROM 1997-1999 FORD VEHICLES THAT HAVE THE FLASHER BUILT IN THE MIRROR ARE EXPERIENCING THIS AND FORD ONLY REPLACES UNDER WARRANTY. *AK

WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 55 MPH TRIED TO CHANGE TO FREEWAY AND RIGHT FRONT TIRE SEPARATED FROM VEHICLE WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING. CONSUMER HAD FOUND OUT THAT BOLTS WERE RUSTED IN BACK OF IT, AND REST OF TIRES WERE IN SAME CONDITION.*AK
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE ENGINE CHECK LIGHT COMES ON AND REMAINS ON. THIS CAUSES VEHICLE TO ACT AS IF IT'S GOING TO STALL OUT WHEN ITS IDLING TOO LONG AT STOP LIGHTS OR STOP SIGNS. HAS HAPPENED SO FAR 5 TIMES. HAD TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP 4 TIMES, EACH TIME MECHANIC REPLACED A COIL PACK. LIGHT WOULD GO OUT, BUT AFTER 2 WEEKS WOULD RETURN AGAIN. *AK *SLC
CHILD SAFETY LOCK WOULD ENGAGE BY ITSELF AND CAUSE DOORS NOT TO OPEN FROM EITHER SIDE. DEALER NOTIFIED, AND MADE REPAIRS. *AK THE CONSUMER STATES THAT NOT TO BE ABLE TO OPEN BOTH REAR DOORS FROM INSIDE IS A BIG SAFETY ISSUE. *YH
WHILE TRAVELING WITH CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED CRUISE CONTROL UNIT WOULD NOT DISENGAGE TO SLOW DOWN FOR AN EXIT. CONSUMER HAS REPLACED MOTOR THREE TIMES.*AK
BOTH EXTERIOR MIRRORS ARE NOT USABLE. THESE ARE REPLACEMENTS THE FIRST SET FAILED AFTER A YEAR AND A HALF. IT SEEMS THAT THE MIRRORS DESIGNED FOR MY MODEL EXPEDITION HAVE A MAXIMUM TWO YEAR LIFE. FORD SAYS NO DEFECT, COME TAKE A LOOK AT MY SECOND SET OF MIRRORS ON A FOUR YEAR OLD VEHICLE.*AK
THERE WAS NO FORE-WARNING OF THIS BREAK IN SUSPENSION. WITHOUT A DOUBT IF I HAD NOT JUST GOTTEN OFF THE HIGHWAY MY SISTER AND I WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED IN A ROLLOVER!!! THE DEALER WOULD NOT TAKE A COMPLAINT TO FORD AND GAVE ME A HARD TIME ABOUT FIXING IT SINCE I DID NOT PURCHASE THE CAR IN CONNECTICUT AT THEIR DEALERSHIP. I PAID IN CASH, THEY WOULD NOT USE MY WARRANTY. *AK
ENGINE BEGAN MAKING NOISE; SLOWED TO PULL OFF ROAD; ENGINE STOPPED AND WAS ABLE TO COAST TO SIDE OF ROAD. OIL PRESSURE WENT TO ZERO DESPITE RECENT OIL CHANGE AND FULL READING ON THE OIL. DEALER SAID ENGINE SEIZED AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. UNKNOWN ORGIN OR CAUSE OF SEIZURE. ALL MILEAGE ON VEHICLE IS HIGHWAY.*AK
CONSUMER WAS STAYING IN BELOW FREEZING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND PART OF ENGINE FAILED. ENGINE SKIPS/SHAKES, AND RUNS HARD. VEHICLE IS DRIVEABLE. FORD SAYS IT'S BECAUSE VEHICLE HAS 4.5 TECTRON ENGINE, ALL EXPEDITIONS HAVE THIS MODEL. *AK
CONSUMER NOTICED 2 FOUR INCH LONG CREVICES IN THE TREAD OF THE TIRE, 1 SIXTEEN INCH LONG CREVICES ACROSS AND ALONG THE TIRE TREAD (FIRESTONE WILDERNESS AT P225/70R16). NLM
BOLTS FOR FRONT SUSPENSION SWAY BAR KEEP SHREADING OFF WHICH COULD CAUSE LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL. *AK
THE BOLTS THAT HOLD THE SWAY BAR IN PLACE ON THE FRONT OF MY 1997 FORD EXPEDITION BROKE OFF COMPLETELY. HAD I BEEN DRIVING ON A FREEWAY OR AROUND A CORNER I FEEL THAT I WOULD HAVE LOST CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE. I HAVE CONTACTED MY FORD DEALER FOR REPAIRS.*AK
MECHANIC SAID FORD CHANGED DESIGN BECAUSE OF FAULTING PLACEMENT OF THE VENT. FORD SAID THEY WOULD HAVE REPLACED IF MILEAGE WAS UNDER 50K AND I WAS THE ORIGINAL OWNER. *AK
AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY AFTER AUTO LEFT ROAD JUMPING CULVERTS AND LANDING FORCEFULLY IN A LARGE DITCH AT APPROX 50 MPH. VEHICLE SUFFERED EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO LEFT AND RIGHT SIDES INCLUDING FRONT DAMAGE. WRECK CAUSED DAMAGE TO STEERING COLUMN AND ENGINE. VEHICLE IS LOCATED AT BATES CUSTON COLLISION IN BAYTOWN, TEXAS. *AK
THE INTERIOR DASH LIGHTS OF MY 1997 EXPEDITION GO OUT EVERY TIME IT RAINS OR THE VEHICLE GETS WET. THE CAUSE OF THIS APPEARS TO BE IN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM CONNECT WITH THE DIMMRER SWITCH THAT CAUSE A SHORT THAT THEN BLOWS THE 5 AMP FUSE. I HAVE REPLACED THIS MULTIPLE TIMES AND IS FINE AS LONG AS IT IS DRY (OHIO ISN'T A VERY DRY CLIMATE). I HAVE GONE THROUGH MANY 5 AMP FUSES. I HAVE DELAYED GETTING ANYTHING DONE SINCE THE FIRST OCCURANCE BACK IN 2000 DUE THE COSTLY EXPENSE OF JUST TRYING TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. THIS SEEMS SIMILAR TO OTHER COMPLAINTS THAT I HAVE READ POSTED ON THIS WEB SITE DUE TO WATER LEAKING FROM WINDSHIELD. I HAVE EVEN HAD MY WINDSHIELD REPLACED AND STILL HAVE THIS PROBLEM TO DATE. I HAVE NOW STOPPED REPLACING THE FUSE AND LIVE WITH NO DASH LIGHTS AT NIGHT. VERY DANGEROUS WHEN YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT SPEED YOUR GOING. IN MY PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERING OPINION THERE APPEARS TO BE A WATER LEAK ISSUE IN THE WINDSHIELD/FIREWALL AREA. THIS WATER LEAK ISSUE SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO AS THE ROOT CAUSE TO OTHER FAILURES THAT HAVE BEEN SEEN ON EXPEDITIONS AND F-150S IN REGARDS TO ELECTRICAL ISSUES AND FIRES.*AK
THE FIREWALL HEATER HOSE CONNECTORS IN THE AREA OF THE #4 COIL PACK ON MANY EXPEDITION WITH THE 5.4L V-8 WILL LEAK HOT COOLANT ON THE #4 CYLINDER COIL PACK. THIS WILL LEAD TO THE FAILURE OF THIS COIL PACK. FAILURE OF THIS COIL PACK CAUSES A SEVERVE ENGINE MISS AND LOSS OF PERFORMANCE. FAILURE ON HIGHWAY CAN MAKE VEHICLE UNSAFE. FORD IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT IS NOT PROVDING A PERMANENT FIX.
STABLIZER LINKAGE WHICH WAS CONNECTED TO CONTROL ARM FELL DOWN. CONSUMER SAW LINKAGE HANGING DOWN UNDER CHASSIS. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER REPLACED STABILIZER LINKAGE. *AK
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON STAYS ON. AT FIRST, I WAS TOLD THIS WAS BEING CAUSED BY A GAS CAP NOT HOLDING PRESSURE. I PURCHASED A NEW GAS CAP WHICH SEEM TO TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM AND THE COMPUTER WAS RESET BY TAKING THE CABLE OFF THE BATTERY. THIS LAST ABOUT A MONTH UNTIL I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE EVAP CAN SOLINOID, WHICH WAS REPLACED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY PURCHASED. THE COMPUTER WAS RESET BY REMOVING THE CABLE FROM THE BATTERY. THIS LASTED ABOUT A MONTH AND WAS TOLD TO CHECK THE GAS CAP AND THE COMPUTER RESET BY REMOVING THE BATTERY CABLE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL GO OUT WITH FRESH TANK OF HIGH OCTANE GAS, BUT WILL REAPPEAR WITH LOWER GRADE OF FUEL AFTER A WHILE. I AM TOLD NOW THAT 1 OF 4 O2 SENSORS ARE BAD AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. FURTHERMORE, IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT ALL 4 O2 SENSORS BE REPLACED ($150/EA) AT THE SAME TIME. I AM RELUCNTANT IN BELIEVING THE CAUSE OF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AS I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM WAY TOO MANY TIMES TO THROW DOWN $700 ON SOMETHING MAY OR MAY NOT WORK. OHIO EMISSIONS TEST WILL AUTOMATICALLY FAIL YOUR VEHICLE IF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. THERE NEEDS TO BE RECORD SOME PLACE SO THAT OWNERS CAN FIGHT BACK IF THEY PASS THEIR EMISSIONS TEST, BUT CAN'T GET THE CERTIFICATE IF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. I HAVE WASTED TOO MUCH MONEY AND TIME TRYING TO DIAGNOSE AND FIX THIS CHECK ENGINE LIGHT.*AK
I NOTICED NHTSA NEWS RELEASE OF 9/4/01 REGARDING 1997 FORD EXPEDITION STABILIZER FAILURES AND I THOUGHT I WOULD SUBMIT MY FAILURE. BOTH FRONT STABILIZER LINKS WERE REPLACED BY DEALER, THE DAY BEFORE I BEGAN A 3000 MILE TRIP IN WINTER FROM MICHIGAN TO IDAHO AND BACK. DEALER SAID STABILIZER ARM BROKE. THEY REPLACED BOTH TO BE SAFE. MY COST WAS $104.52.*AK

WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 65-70 MPH VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED, AND ALL LIGHT ON DASHBOARD WERE ON/OFF. DRIVING OFF THE ROAD HAD TO TURN OFF IGNITION SWITCH. THEN TURN IT BACK ON, AND IT WORKED AS NORMAL. TAKEN VEHICLE TO DEALER THREE TIMES. *AK
UPON IMPACT, REAR THIRD SEAT DISLOGGED IN THE AIR, HITTING THE ROOF AND THRUSTED FOWARD. IF MY CHILDREN WOULD HAVE BEEN SITTING THERE, WHICH THE THIRD SEAT IS USED MOSTLY BY CHILDREN, THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN FATALLY INJURED. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED, AS THIS IS CLEARLY UNSAFE. *AK
I UNDERSTAND THAT THERE IS AN INQUIRY CONCERNING THE SAFETY OF THE ABOVE MENTIONED TIRES. ON 11/03/00 I HAD PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE COMPLETED ON MY VEHICLE (OIL CHANGE/TIRE ROTATION). THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE ADVISED ME THAT MY TIRES WERE BECOMING "CHOPPY". HE SHOWED ME BY RUNNING MY HAND OVER THE SURFACE OF THE TIRE. THE TIRE WAS NOT SMOOTH, BUT IN CERTAIN AREAS IT APPEARED THAT THE TIRE WAS RAISED. I FELT THAT THIS CONDITION WAS ODD SINCE I WOULD BELIEVE THAT THE TREAD WOULD WEAR SMOOTHLY DURING CONTINUED OPERATION. UNDERSTANDING THE CONCERN ABOUT TREAD SEPERATION, AND NOT BEING AN EXPERT, I SUSPECTED THAT THIS MAY BE OCCURRING. I SENT A MESAGE TO THE CUSTOMER SERVICE SECTION OF GOODYEAR AND WAS ADVISED THAT 39,000 WAS THE LIFE EXPECTIANCY OF THOSE TIRES. I DISAGREE AND FELT THEIR EXPLANTATION WAS UNACCEPTABLE. I ADVISED GOODYEAR THAT IT WAS INTENT TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH YOUR ORGANIZATION. MY CONCERN IS FOR THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY AND THAT OF THE OTHER MOTORIST. THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE. WHILE DRIVING FRONT DIFFERENTIAL CRANK CASE STARTED TO LEAK FLUID. WHEEL WELL WAS BEING COATED WITH FLUID. HAD CONTACTED MANUFACTURER AND INFORMED CONSUMER THAT HE KNEW THE PROBLEM. HAD A FIX FOR PROBLEM, BUT NO RECALL ISSUED. *AK THE CRANKCASE BLEED VALVE WAS MOVED FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE DIFFERNTIAL TO THE TOP. *SLC
WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AT SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 50 MPH FRONT END HAD SEVERE VIBRATION, AND THERE WAS A RATTLING NOISE. VEHICLE HAD TO BE STOPPED BEFORE VIBRATION WOULD STOP. DEALERSHIP HAS LOOKED AT VEHICLE, BUT COULD NOT DETERMINE CAUSE FOR THIS PROBLEM. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION / ATTACHMENTS.*AK
FIRST TIME I HEARD A LOAD NOISE ABOUT 4 MONTHS AGO TOOK IT TO FORD DEALER TO BE FIXED THEY SAID IT WAS THE TIE ROD AND REPLACED IT. NOW ITS MONTHS LATER AND I HAD TO HAVE MY STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY UPPER AND LOWER COLUMN UPPER SHAFT AND LOWER BEARINGS AND IN LOOKING UNDER CAR FIND THAT STEERING SHAFTS AND ASSEMBLY ARE STILL LOOSE AND WOBBLE AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MAKE OF VEHICLE. *AK
TWO TRANSMISSION OIL LINE FITTINGS THAT ARE LOCATED ON THE RADIATOR WORKED LOOSE, CAUSING THE LOWER RADIATOR HOSE TO SWELL AND POTENTIALLY RUPTURE. TRANSMISSION IS BURNING ON THE ENGINE FROM GETTING THROWN BACK BY RADIATOR FAN. *AK
HAD TAKEN VEHICLE AT LEAST 3 DIFFERENT TIMES TO DEALER FOR NON WORKING RADIO. AFTER 3RD TIME DASHBOARD STARTED SMOKING. COULD SMELL RUBBER & PLASTIC. WENT BACK TO DEALERSHIP. MECHANIC INDICATED WOULD NEED TO REWIRE & THEN REGROUND THE WIRES. HAD ALSO CLAIMED PENNY IN RADIO CAUSED ELECTRICAL SHORT. DUE TO ALARM GOING OFF, KEY COULD NOT BE USED. VEHICLE COULD NOT BE STARTED. MECHANIC COULD NOT RESOLVE ISSUE OF ELECTRICAL SYSTEM & INDICATED IT WAS DRIVER'S PROBLEM. *AK
WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 45 MPH, VEHICLE VEERED OFF THE ROAD AND FLIPPED OVER. TOOK VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC, AND THEY SAID THAT STABILIZER BAR BROKE. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
DOOR AJAR LIGHT COMES ON AND STAYS ON INTERMENTLY. I HAD THIS SAME ISSUE WITH MY 1995 FORD RANGER. ON BOTH VEHICLES THE DOOR LATCH MECHANISM WAS REPLACED AND FIX THE PROBLEM TEMPORARILY. THE ISSUE RETURNS WITH OEM REPLACE PART. MECHANIC MENTIONED THAT THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY USES A VERY THICK LUBRICANT ON THE MECHANISM CAUSING THE ISSUE. I NOW JUST LIVE WITH THE ISSUE AS I AM NOT GOING TO KEEP SPENDING MY MONEY ON LATCH MECHANISM THAT KEEPS GOING BAD. THE ONLY ISSUE IS THE INTERIOR LIGHTS STAY ON UNTIL THE DELAY OUT 45 SECONDS LATER. THIS SEEMS TO BE A RECURRING ISSUE WITH FORD VEHICLES ACROSS MULTIPLE MAKES OF VEHICLES. I HAVE COMPLAINED TO FORD DIRECTLY.*AK
