TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 FORD EXPEDITION. WHILE PARKED, THE VEHICLE BECAME ENGULFED IN FLAMES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT STATED THAT THE FIRE WAS CAUSED BY A SHORT IN THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 202,000.
COIL AND SPARK PLUG BLOW OUT OF ENGINE WHEN TRUCK WAS STARTED (1998). THE EXPEDITION HAS BEEN KNOWN TO HAVE THIS ISSUES AS WELL AS OTHER ISSUES. WHY IS FORD NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY; SO FAR ACCIDENT AVOIDED. I HAD TO REPLACE ONE COIL PACK EACH YEAR SO FAR BUT THIS WAS THE WORSE. I NEEDED THE CINDER RETREADED TO FIT THE SPARK PLUG IN. *TR
#6 SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF CYL HEAD. REINSTALLED AND REPLACED COIL SINCE IT BROKE MOUNT. PUT BACK IN SERVICE AND NEXT PLUG IN BANK (#7) BLEW WITHIN 10 MILES AT APPROX SAME SPEED. WHEN SEARCHING THE INTERNET THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH FORDS MODULAR ENGINE PRIOR TO 04. WHEN THEY MAKE SPECIAL TOOLS AND INSERTS TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM, FORD SHOULD PONY UP AND HAVE THE INSERTS INSTALLED AT LEAST FOR THE NORMAL LIFE EXPECTANCY OF THE ENGINE. *TR
SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY -- VERY DANGEROUS. HAD CHILDREN IN CAR. HAD TO BE TOWED. MY MECHANIC TOLD ME THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM WITH THIS ENGINE--5.4L-- IN OTHER FORDS AS WELL. HE HAD ANOTHER FORD WITH SAME PROBLEM COME IN THE PREVIOUS WEEK, AND HAS SEEN SEVERAL OTHERS RECENTLY (THIS IS JUST ONE SMALL TOWN/RURAL MECHANIC). PLEASE TAKE ACTION -- IT'S A COSTLY REPAIR. *KB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THE BUMPER AND REAR AXLE WAS COVERED WITH RUST AND SEPARATED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE FUEL TANK STRAPS WERE ALSO COVERED WITH RUST AS WELL. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT WAS UNABLE TO ASSIST WITH THE DEFECT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 140,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A COMPLETE STOP, THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED A LOUD BANG. THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY COLLAPSED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE REAR TRAILING ARM WAS FRACTURED DUE TO EXTENSIVE RUST AND CORROSION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000.
PLASTIC INTAKE MANIFOLD FAILURE RESULTING IN REPAIRS IN EXCESS OF $1500. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL TANK RUPTURED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT BOTH FUEL STRAPS WAS ALSO RUSTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND A COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000.
REAR LOWER TRAILING ARMS RUSTED COMPLETELY THRU GAS TANK STRAPS RUSTED THRU. *TR
YEARS AGO WHEN PURCHASED THE EXPEDITION I NOTICED THE SHIFT GEAR OUT OF ALIGNMENT. I TRY TO CONTACT THE DEALER AS I HEARD THAT THIS WAS A RECALL; I WAS TOLD THAT THE RECALL IS NOT FOR MY VEHICLE. IT HAS KNOW BEEN A FEW YEARS SINCE I BOUGHT THE TRUCK AND I'M NOW EXPERIENCING WHAT I'VE NOTICED MANY OTHERS WITH AN EXPEDITION WHICH IS TRUCK IS NOT ENGAGING INTO PARKING POSITION AND ROLLS. THIS IS A CONCERN TO ME AS MY DRIVE WAY IS ON A SLIGHT UP HILL. THIS IS AN ENDANGERING TO THE PUBLIC, THE ISSUE HAPPENS UNEXPECTEDLY. I WOULD NOT LIKE TO SEE SOMEONE HURT BECAUSE OF A ROLL BACK OR FORWARD DUE TO WHAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE A MANUFACTURE DEFECT FROM THE MANY CASES I'VE READ UP ON SO FAR. FORD DEALER NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE AS WELL AS THE COIL AND SPARK PLUG WHICH BLOWS OUT OF ENGINE AND AIR SUSPENSION PROBLEMS. THIS VEHICLE HAS COST ME THOUSANDS IN REPAIR,ITS NOT WORTH AND CAN NOT AFFORD THE PRESENT REPAIRS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 FORD EXPEDITION. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE VIGOROUSLY AND THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE. THE CONTACT NOTICED ONE OF THE LUG NUTS WAS MISSING AND THAT THE STUDS AND RIM WERE DAMAGED. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE RIM AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE LUG NUTS, THE STUDS, THE AXLE SEALS AND THE PARKING BRAKE SHOES. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 98V095000(WHEELS:LUGS/NUTS/BOLTS) THAT MAY BE RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE DEALER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000.
OUR 1998 FORD EXPEDITION WITH THE 5.4 V8 TRITON ENGINE HAD ANOTHER SPARK PLUG BLOW OUT OF THE CYLINDER HEAD. THE LAST TIME THIS HAPPENED WAS ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO, IT WAS THE #3 CYLINDER PLUG THEN AND LAST WEEK IT WAS THE #6 CYLINDER PLUG, I SEARCHED THE INTERNET CONCERNING THIS PROBLEM AND FOUND HUNDREDS IF NOT MORE OF THE SAME ISSUES, AND NO ONE IS MAKING FORD DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS, JUST THOUGHT MY VOICE IN THIS MATTER MIGHT HELP. PLEASE IF THERE WAS EVER AN INSTANCE OF A RECALL THIS IS SURELY ONE. THIS IS GETTING VERY EXPENSIVE FOR THE AUTO OWNER, THE FIRST TIME WE HAD IT FIXED BY FORD AND IT WAS $250 AND THIS TIME IT WAS OVER $1,000. THANK YOU FOR ADDRESSING THIS ISSUE. *TR *KB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WHEN SHE NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A RUSTED HOLE IN THE REAR SUSPENSION SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
IT HAS COME TO MY ATTENTION THAT THE TRAILING ARMS ON THE REAR AXLE ARE FAILING ON THE EARLY MODEL FORD EXPEDITIONS. UPON INSPECTION OF MY VEHICLE, I SEE WHERE THE FAILURE IS GOING TO OCCUR. THE TRAILING ARMS ARE ROTTING OUT AND WILL ALLOW FOR THE REAR AXLE TO TWIST OUT OF PLACE CAUSING THE DRIVE SHAFT TO BECOME DISLODGED AND BECOME A LARGE RUN AWAY COMPONENT. THESE COMPONENTS ON MY VEHICLE WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED PRIOR TO THIS VEHICLE BEING PLACED BACK IN SERVICE AS THIS IS A LARGE SAFETY CONCERN. I AM WRITING DUE TO THIS DEFECT BEING A SAFETY ISSUE AND IS ONE WHICH IS VIRTUALLY UNKNOWN BY THE CONSUMER AS IT IS NOT AN INSPECTABLE ITEM ON ANY ANNUAL INSPECTION. MY INTERNET RESEARCH HAS SHOWN THERE ARE MANY OF THESE VEHICLES WHERE THE ISSUE IS COMING TO LIGHT. THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL ON THESE COMPONENTS AT THIS POINT BUT SHOULD BE EXAMINED VERY QUICKLY DUE TO THE NATURE OF THE PROBLEM. I ALSO FIND THAT FORD HAS UPDATED THE COMPONENTS ON LATER VEHICLES IN MATERIALS AS WELL AS OVERALL DIMENSIONS. MY FEELING IS THAT SOMETHING IS KNOWN ON SOME LEVEL AND THE INFORMATION IS NOT BEING PASSED ALONG TO THE CONSUMER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY OVERNIGHT. THE CONTACT WAS AWAKENED BY A LOUD EXPLOSION WHEN SHE DISCOVERED THE VEHICLE IN FLAMES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED TO ASSIST AND ADVISED THAT THE FIRE ORIGINATED FROM THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V388000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL) AND STATED THAT SHE WAS ADVISED BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED WITH THE RECALL BUT HAD NOT RECEIVED RECALL REPAIRS. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 185,467.
APRIL 2011 FORD 5.4 LITER TRITON BLEW OUT YET ANOTHER SPARK PLUG. *TR
WHILE SITTING AT THE RED TRAFFIC LIGHT ,WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN TO GO UPON TAKING OFF AT NORMAL SPEED THE DRIVE SHAFT FELL COMPLETELY OUT AND BROKE AT THE DRIVE SHAFT UNIVERSAL EARS OF THE SHAFT AND THE RIGHT LOWER REAR CONTROLLING/TRAILING ARM BROKE AT COUPLER BECAUSE IT WAS VERY BADLY CORRODED WITH RUST FROM WEAK MATERIAL AND DRIVERS SIDE REAR LOOKS THE SAME WAY . ALSO MY EXPEDITION IS NOT A RUST BUCKET, IT IS DRIVEN VERY LITTLE IN THE WINTER. THE DRIVE SHAFT EARS THAT HOLD THE UNIVERSAL JOINT IS MADE OF CAST STEEL,WHICH IS VERY UNSAFE, IF FORD WOULD SEND THE PAIR OF TRAILING/CONTROLLING ARMS WE WILL HAVE THEM PUT ON AT MY COST. WITH THE DRY SHAFT MADE OUT THE OF THAT KIND OF MATERIAL THE VEHICLE CAN FLIP OUT OF CONTROL AND CAUSE DAMAGE, HARM OR DEATH. SOUNDS TO ME THAT ONE DAY FORD MAY HAVE A LAW SUIT BECAUSE OF THESE PROBLEMS AND I'M SURE THAT I'M NOT THE ONLY PERSON THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO . NO WONDER WHY ITS A LOT OF FORD EXPEDITIONS ON THE LOTS CHEAP. FROM SOME RESEARCH OF THE WEB IT SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING A LOT. FORD NEEDS TO MAKE RITE WHAT THEY DID WRONG!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 FORD EXPEDITION. WHILE PARKED, THE CONTACT NOTICED BOTH THE PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT LATCHES FOR THE MIDDLE ROW OF THE VEHICLE WERE FRACTURED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER SEATED IN THE MIDDLE ROW OF THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO BUCKLE THE SEAT BELT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS OR REPAIRS. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
WE HAVE OUR EXPEDITION FOR A WHILE AND WE KNOW THE PEOPLE WHO OWNED IT BEFORE US. WHILE IT IS RAINING AND DAYS AFTER THE POWER TO THE TRUCK DOES NOT TURN OFF. THE RADIO WILL TURN ON, THE BLOWER FOR HEAT OR AIR WILL KEEP BLOWING, THE LIGHTS WILL TURN ON, THE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE WILL STOP, ABS WILL STOP, AND THE WIPER BLADES WILL NOT WORK. SO BECAUSE THE ELECTRICAL ITEMS WILL TURN ON AT RANDOM, THEY DRAIN THE BATTERY AND THE TRUCK WILL NOT START THE NEXT DAY. WE FOUND OUT THAT DUE TO MANUFACTURING ERROR, THE WINDSHIELD LEAKS WATER INTO THE GENERAL ELECTRIC MODULE. THE OTHER PROBLEM IS THE PART NOT ONLY EXPENSIVE, BUT IF YOU BUY ONE AND IT DOES NOT WORK, IT IS NOT RETURNABLE. AND THAT WAS TOLD TO US BY MULTIPLE DEALERSHIPS. SO BASICALLY FORD KNOWS OF THE PROBLEM AND IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND HAS DONE NOTHING ABOUT IT. *TR
3RD TIME WE HAVE HAD A SPARK PLUG EJECTION FROM THE PASSENGER ENGINE HEAD OF OUR 1998 FORD EXPEDITION WITH A TRITON 5.4 LITER ENGINE. I OWNED A FORD F150 AND HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM TWICE. I DID RESEARCH AND CALLED A FEW ASE MASTER MECHANICS THAT ARE RATED AS AMERICA'S #1 AND #4 MECHANICS IN THE NATION, AND WAS TOLD IT IS THE MOST COMMON PROBLEM FORDS TRITON ENGINES HAVE EVER HAD, AND THEY SEE THESE PROBLEMS ON A DAILY BASIS, YET FORD DOES NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM. FORD DESPERATELY NEEDS TO RECALL THESE ENGINES, THEY ARE A HAZARD, AND THE SPARK PLUG EJECTS WITH EXPLOSIVE POWER DAMAGING NEARBY COMPONENTS ON IT'S WAY OUT OF THE ENGINE. FORD REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS COMMON MANUFACTURE DEFECT. TO FIX THIS PROBLEM NEW HEADS NEED TO BE INSTALLED ON THE ENGINE. THE QUICK HELICAL STYLE SLEEVE INTO THE STRIPPED SPARK PLUG THREADS HAS A FAILURE RATE OF 100%. AGAIN THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM AND THE MAGNITUDE CAN BE SEEN ALL OVER THE INTERNET BY SEARCHING FORDS SPARK PLUG BLOWOUTS. LITERALLY 10'S OF THOUSANDS OF FORUMS, AND INSIGHT IN THIS PROBLEM IS AVAILABLE ONLINE, EXCEPT SUPPORT FROM FORD MOTOR COMPANY. *LN
I WAS DRIVING @ 70MPH DOWN INTERSTATE 10 IN SEGUINE TEXAS WHEN THE SPARKPLUG ON MY 1998 FORD EXPEDITION BLEW OUT OF THE HEAD, DESTROYING THE COIL, PLUG AND WIRE. THE VEHICLE INTERIOR FILLED WITH GAS FUMES AND THE VEHICLE STARTED TO KNOCK VERY LOUDLY. I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE PRIOR TO THE FUEL VAPORS IGNITING, HOWEVER THIS WAS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AS MY WIFE AND CHILDREN WERE IN THE VEHICLE WITH ME. AFTER RESEARCHING I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS PROBLEM IS COMMON WITH THE FORD 5.4 TRITON ENGINES. THE MECHANIC I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO EXPLAINED THAT THE ALUMINUM HEADS DO NOT MESH WITH THE STEEL SPARK PLUGS AND EVENTUALLY TEAR ALL THE THREADS OUT OF THE HEAD AND SHOOT THE PLUG OUT OF THE HOLE. THE HEAD OF THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE REMOVED AND MACHINED AT A COST OF 1400$. *TR
TL *THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK SUSPENSION LAMP WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE SUSPENSION CONTROL MODULE AND THE AIR COMPRESSOR WERE DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED HER TO NHTSA. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 166,805.
1998 FORD EXPEDITION THE SPARK PLUG BLOW OUT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SPARK PLUGS BLEW OUT OF THE ENGINE WHILE TRAVELING 65 MPH; THE CONTACT SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING UNDER THE HOOD. IN MARCH OF 2009 ONE SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT, BUT IN AUGUST OF 2010 2 ADDITIONAL SPARK PLUGS BLEW OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE DEALER CONFIRMED THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 160000.
MY 1998 FORD EXPEDITION HAD A RECALL AND THEY WANTED TO KEEP MY CAR FOR THREE DAY MINIMUM OF THREE DAYS. I HAVE TO WORK SO I WAITED UNTIL I HAD A LONG WEEKEND. I WAITED TO LONG I GUESS BECAUSE I CAME OUT OF THE BANK AND MY CAR WAS ON FIRE. I CALLED AUTO FAIR FORD IN MANCHESTER,NH AND THEY SAID BECAUSE I DID NOT BRING IT IN IMMEDIATELY THAT THEY WOULD REPLACE THE PART THAT STARTED THE FIRE BUT I WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR EVERYTHING ELSE DESTROYED BY THE RECALLED PART. I WILL NEVER BUY OR DEAL WITH FORD OR FORD VEHICLES AGAIN! *TR
A SPARK PLUG WAS EJECTED FROM THE CYLINDER HEAD. INTERIOR OF THE SUV FILLED WITH GAS FUMES. THERE WAS NOTHING NOTICEABLE PRIOR TO THIS OCCURRING. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THIS OCCURRED. THE MECHANIC OBTAINED THE REPAIR KIT TO RETHREAD THE CYLINDER HEAD AT A COST OF $360.00. THE WORK IS NOT GUARANTEED...IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN, THE HEAD WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRAILING ARM THAT CONNECTED THE REAR END TO THE FRAME FRACTURED IN HALF WHEN HE SHIFTED INTO DRIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER RECALL AND ANY REPAIRS WOULD BE AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 170,000.
I HAD A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE REAR SUSPENSION ARMS ON MY 1998 FORD EXPEDITION. I WAS TRAVELING AT A SLOW SPEED WHEN THE ARM SNAPPED WITHOUT WARNING. HAD THIS SUSPENSION ARM BROKEN AT HIGHWAY SPEED, THE RESULT WOULD HAVE BEEN A LIFE THREATENING WRECK. THE REAR END ROLLED UP CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO BE IMMOVABLE , REQUIRING A TOW FOR REPAIRS. AN INSPECTION REVEALED, THE UPPER SUPPORT ARM FOR REAR THE SUSPENSION RUSTED COMPLETELY THROUGH, CAUSING THE ARM TO BREAK. THE OTHER UPPER ARM IS RUSTED THROUGH BADLY, AND BOTH LOWER ARMS ARE RUSTED THROUGH BADLY. ALL THE ARMS WERE READY TO BREAK. I AM SURE THIS FAILURE IS THE FAULT OF (1) POOR ENGINEERING AND DESIGN BY FORD (2) POOR SELECTION OF GRADE OF STEEL USED IN MAKING THESE ARMS (3) POOR QUALITY CHECKS, IF THESE ARMS DID NOT MEET SPECIFICATION. THERE IS NO WAY A PART AS ROBUST AS THIS NEEDS BE, SHOULD EVER BE ABLE TO RUST THROUGH! I WROTE TO FORD AND HAVE NOT GOTTEN A SATISFACTORY RESPONSE AT THIS TIME. I HAD REPAIRS MADE BY A HIGHLY QUALIFIED MECHANIC. WHILE HE WAS OBTAINING PARTS HE FOUND THIS FAILURE WAS BECOMING MORE COMMON. BOTH UPPER AND LOWER ARMS WERE REPLACED. ONE AIR BAG HAD TO BE REPLACED AS IT WAS PIERCED BY THE BROKEN ARM. I HAVE THE OLD PARTS IN MY POSSESSION. THIS WAS A FRIGHTENING AND VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR ,THAT FORD IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ! MY 1998 FORD EXPEDITION BEGAN HAVING SEVERE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS AFTER HEAVY RAINS. THE STARTER WILL CYCLE WHEN THE KEY IS NOT EVEN IN THE IGNITION, THE AC BLOWER REMAINS ON WHEN TRUCK IS SHUT OFF, SPEEDOMETER FAILS TO WORK, TRANSMISSION SHIFTS ROUGHLY, INTERIOR LIGHTS COME ON, TRUCK SHUTS OFF UNEXPECTEDLY. RESEARCHED ON INTERNET AND APPARENTLY MANY FORD TRUCKS MADE IN 1998 HAVE SIMILAR PROBLEMS DUE TO LEAKY WINDSHIELDS, ALLOWING WATER TO ENTER FUSE BOXES. THIS PROBLEM COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS PARTICULARLY THE CONSTANT CYCLING OF THE STARTER IN AN UNATTENDED TRUCK, AND SHUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING. THIS COMPLAINT INVOLVES THE COMPLETE FAILURE OF ALL BRAKE LINES DUE TO RUST ON MY 1998 FORD EXPEDITION. ALL LINES HAVE COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH FROM THE OUTSIDE IN ONLY 12 YEARS. I HAVE REPLACED THE COIL PACKS THROUGH OUT THE ENTIRE ENGINE RECENTLY AGAIN. I RAN THE AIR CONDITIONING FOR ABOUT ONE HOUR AND THE NEXT DAY I STARTED THE VEHICLE UP AND IT HAD A ROUGH IDLE. I DROVE APPROXIMATELY 6 MILES WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I HOOKED UP MY OBD2 TO SEE THE PROBLEM FOUND OUT THE NEW #4 COIL HAD MISFIRED ONCE AGAIN. I HAD THE SINGLE COIL PACK REPLACED WITH 45,000 THE FIRST TIME THEN I REPLACED THEM ALL AT 135,000. AND NOW I HAD TO REPLACE THE #4 COIL PACK AGAIN BY ITSELF AT 143,000.
