OVER THE PAST YEAR OR SO, BOTH MY MIRRORS HAVE BEEN TURNING BLACK AND CRACKING ON THE INSIDE, MWHERE I CANNOT SEE OUT THEM, THEY ARE ALMOST BLACK WITHOUT ANY VIEWING AREA. *AK
BOTH EXTERIOR MIRRORS HAD HAIR LINE CRACKS. THIS CAUSED POOR VISIBILITY. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. *AK THE CRACKS WERE ALSO BLACK IN COLOR. *SC
I PURCHASED A 1999 FORD EXPEDITION EDDIE BAUER 1 YEAR AGO LAST WEEK. I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE. THE LATEST PROBLEM IS THE ONE THAT CONCERNS ME THE MOST. A FEW WEEKS AGO THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR LOCK WOULD NOT OPERATE. I COULD HEAR THE MOTOR TRYING TO OPEN THE LOCK BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. A WEEK AFTER THAT I COULD NOT OPEN MY WINDOWS AND THE TURN SIGNALS DID NOT WORK. A WEEK LATER MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED WORKING. WE ATTRIBUTED THE PROBLEM TO A BLOWN FUSE WHICH WE REPLACED. THE PROBLEM SEEMED TO BE FIXED. THE NEXT DAY IT RAINED AND THE FUSE BLEW AGAIN, AND AGAIN AND AGAIN. THE PROBLEM GOT WORSE AS THE BRAKE LIGHTS WENT OUT. I BROUGHT THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I HAD PURCHASED IT. THEY DISCOVERED A LEAK IN THE WINDSHIELD THAT SEEPED INTO THE FUSE BOX. THE FUSE BOX NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER MY WARRANTY (THAT COVERS JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING ELSE. FORD ESP EXTRACARE) THIS IN MY OPINION SHOULD NOT HAVE HAD TO BE PAID FOR OUT OF MY POCKET. IT IS A SAFETY PROBLEM THAT I UNDERSTAND THAT DIDN'T JUST HAPPEN TO ME. ME VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN IN ANY ACCIDENTS SO I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THE WINDSHIELD IS LEAKING. PLEASE CONTACT ME IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS. *NLM
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. IT WAS LATER DETERMINED THAT THE VEHICLE SPARK PLUGS WERE DEFECTIVE. *NLM
BROKEN LEFT SIDE TIE ROD RESULTED IN LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL - PURE LUCK THAT NO ACCIDENT HAPPENED. *JB
THE FRONT STABILIZER BAR BOLT KEEPING BREAKING OFF. IN SEPARATE OCCURRENCES THE BOLTS HAVE FALLEN OFF OR BROKEN OFF ON THE RIGHT AND LEFT SIDE. DON'T KNOW IF THE WEIGHT OF THE FRONT END IS TO MUCH FOR THE VEHICLE. THE EXPEDITION HAS BEEN DRIVER, JUST AN INCONVENIENCE AND A CONCERN. *NLM
WHILE DRIVING DOWN ROAD, FIRE ERUPTED IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT CAUSING MASSIVE DAMAGE. *NLM
UPON STARTING VEHICLE CONSUMER SMELT SMOKE FROM WITHIN THE CABIN. CONSUMER PROCEEDED TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF, AND LIFTED THE HOOD. ENGINE COMPARTMENT WAS ON FIRE. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED. FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED, AND VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALER. AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM CAUSED THE FIRE. COMPONENT THAT FAILED UNKNOWN. VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, AND RETURNED TO THE CONSUMER. *AK
WATER IN THE FUSE BOX CAUSING MANY SHORTS. THERE IS A LEAK IN THE WHEEL WELL. NO WATER IS ANY WHERE ELSE IN THE SUV. SHORTS INCLUDE, RADIO OFF AND ON, FLASHING LIGHTS ON THE DASH, ALL LIGHTS OFF ON DASH, SUV STARTER RELAY SHORTED AND TRIED TO START THE IGNITION WITHOUT ANY KEYS OR ANYONE IN THE SUV. BECAUSE IT IS CONSIDERED WATER DAMAGE MY EXTENDED WARRANTY WILL NOT COVER IT. FORD MOTOR COMPANY HAS BEEN CONTACTED BY MYSELF AND THEY HAVE APPARENTLY HEARD OF THIS COMPLAINT AND WILL NOT ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY AT THIS TIME.
4WHEEL DRIVE ENGAGES SPORADICALLY WHILE DRIVING. DEALER NOTIFIED(NOTHING THEY CAN DO?) MUST STOP , DISENGAGE TRANSMISSION ,AND CYCLE TRANSFER CASE TO CLEAR.PLEASE ADVISE IF THERE IS A KNOWN RECALL AND/OR REPAIR PROCEDURE. ANY INFOMATION WOULD BE APPRECIATED-THANK YOU -JAO. *AK
WE JUST BOUGHT A 1999 FORD EXPEDITION WITH 35000 MILES. WE HAVE DRIVEN IT FOR 5000 MILES AND NOW IT NEEDS A NEW RIGHT HEAD GASKET. I'VE READ MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM. ANY ANSWERS? *NLM
THE SIDE MIRRORS ON MY 1999 FORD EXPEDITION ARE DETERIORATED TO THE POINT OF NOT BEING ABLE TO SEE OTHER VEHICLES THROUGH THEM. THIS IS A MANUFACTURING PROBLEM FROM FORD AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BEFORE THIS CAUSES A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. I MUST TRY TO FIND A WAY TO FIX THIS PROBLEM NOW BEFORE IT BECOMES MY ACCIDENT. RECURRING OIL LEAK, RIGHT SIDE CYLINDER HEAD, FORD TRUCKS WITH 4.6 ENGINE.*JB
I HAVE A 1999 FORD EXPEDITION. IT HAS HAD BOTH HEAD GASKETS ALREADY REPLACED ONCE, AND NOW THEY ARE BLOWN AGAIN. THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THE DEALERSHIP HAS INFORMED ME THAT THERE IS AN ABNORMALITY IN MY ENGINE WHICH WILL CAUSE THIS PROBLEM TO CONTINUE TO RE-OCCUR UNLESS I PAY $5000 TO HAVE A NEW ENGINE PUT IN. FORD HAS RECALLED SIMILIAR VEHICLES DUE TO THE PROBLEMS WITH THE SAME ENGINES, HOWEVER OFFERS NO ASSISTANCE ON THEIR MUCH PRICIER EXPEDITION. I GUESS THEY FIGURE WE CAN AFFORD THE REPAIRS. THEY REFUSE TO DISCUSS MY PROBLEMS AND TELL ME THAT BLOWN HEAD GASKETS ARE CONSIDERED "NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR". THE HEAD GASKET PROBLEM ASIDE, THIS CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP OVER 30 TIMES FOR NON-ROUTINE MAINTENANCE ISSUES. THE LEATHER SEATS HAD TO BE REPLACED, THE EXTERIOR MOLDING WENT BAD, THE EXHAUST SYSTEM WAS FAULTY, WIRING WAS FAULTY, MIRRORS AND WINDOWS WERE FAULTY, ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS WERE FAULTY, THE LIST GOES ON AND ON.
ON MY RECENT PURCHASE OF A USED 1999 FORD EXPEDITION WITH THE 4.6L V8 ENGINE, WITH LOW MILES ONLY APPROX 31,500 WHEN PURCHASED, AND AFTER ONLY ADDING 12,000 MORE MILES TO THE VECHICLE, IN WHICH WE HAVEN'T HAD THE CAR FOR A FULL YEAR, WE EXPERIENCED A BLOWN RIGHT SIDE HEAD GASKET THAT I JUST RECENTLY FOUND OUT WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL. THE CAR WASN'T UNDER WARRENTY AND THE COST FOR REPAIRS RAN UP TO 1300.00 WHICH IS OUTRAGIOUS. I FEEL THAT IF FORD HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS DEFECT THAT FORD SHOULD HAVE RECALLED THIS DEFECT LONG BEFORE SO MANY HAVE NEEDED REPAIRS. I REGRET THAT THIS IS THE LAST FORD I WILL EVER OWN, WHICH IS DIRECTLY DUE TO THE INEPT CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT FORD IS NOW KNOWN FOR.
THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION, AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY.*JB
THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN REPAIRED AND NEW HEATER CORE 2 TIMES WITHIN 2 MONTHS. THIS WAS A PROBLEM THAT HAS OCCURRED AGAIN WITHIN ONE MONTH OF LAST REPAIR(3RD). THE FLOORING IS RUINED DUE TO EXCESSIVE ANTI FREEZE LEAKS INSIDE VEHICLE. *JB
THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH VEHICLE'S ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. ALL DOORS LOCK/UNLOCK INTERMITTENTLY WITHOUT ENGAGEMENT. ALSO THE VEHICLE'S INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR LIGHTS ENGAGE ON/OFF. PH
SIDE-VIEW MIRRORS ON DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE HAVE DELAMINATION RESULTING IN LOSS OF COMPLETE EFFECTIVENESS OF VIEWING. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY, BUT THEY DID NOT REPLACE THE MIRROR CITING THAT THE MIRROR HAD NOT REACHED THE REPLACEMENT STAGE, NOW THAT THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY, THE MIRRORS HAVE REACHED A POINT THAT IT IS DIFFICULT AT BEST TO SEE OUT OF THEM. MY COST TO REPLACE IS 230 PER MIRROR, WITH NO CONSIDERATION OF WARRANTY EXTENSION.*JB
RIGHT SIDE OIL LEAK FROM HEAD GASKET. *AK
DT: THE VEHICLE DOES NOT START WHEN THERE IT RAINS, SNOWS OR ANY WATER RELATING ISSUES. ALSO, CAUSES OTHER ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. DEALER KEEPS REPLACING THE COMPUTER, WHICH NEVER LAST. DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE WINDSHIELD, AND THAT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. FORD HAS BEEN CONTACTED BY THE OWNER. FORD RECOMMENDED THAT THE OWNER TRY ANOTHER DEALERSHIP. THE OWNER HAS BEEN TO MORE THAN ONE DEALERSHIP TO TRY TO FIX THE PROBLEM, AND THEY COULD NOT FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM EITHER. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP OVER THESE ISSUES BETWEEN 6-12 TIMES, AND NOW THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT EVEN GIVE THE OWNER AN INVOICE. OWNER HAS SPENT ABOUT $4,000.00 OVER 8 MONTHS ON TRYING TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. THIS OWNER IS NOT SATISFIED WITH THE DEALERSHIP OR FORD. THE WATER PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN GOING ON FOR TWO YEARS. THE WHEEL CAME OFF LAST YEAR IN JULY. THE WHEEL STARTED VIBRATING AND THE WHEEL JUST CAME OFF WHILE DRIVING. THE WHEEL LUGS: NUTS AND BOLTS BROKENOFF. 4 OUT OF 5 LUGS AND NUTS WERE MISSING. THE ODOMETER DOES NOT WORK. IT BLINKS OFF AND ON. THE ODOMETER WILL STAY OFF FOR MONTHS, WHEN IT COMES BACK ON THE MILEAGE MAY GO FORWARD OR IT MAY GO BACKWARDS. THE OWNER TOOK THE VEHICLE IN AND HAD THE LUG SAND NUTS A LONG WITH THE RIM AND WHEEL REPALCED.*AK
THE PASSENGER SIDE CYLINDER HEAD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED TO THE VERY COMMON SPARK PLUG BLOW OUT. FROM OTHER WEBSITES I HAVE SEEN THIS TO BE A VERY COMMON OCCURRENCE AMONG EXPEDITION OWNERS. THE REPAIR COST WAS IN THE AREA OF $1800.00. FORD DOES NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THIS AS A DEFECT AND YET IT HAPPENS TO PEOPLE EVERY DAY. *NLM
ELECTRICAL MOTOR CONTROLLING THE AIR BLEND DOORS LOCATED INSIDE THE AIR PLENUM HAS FAILED, AND THE PLASTIC DOOR(S) ITSELF IS CRACKED AND NON-FUNCTIONING. I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO DIRECT WARM AIR TO THE FRONT WINDOW TO DEBUG CAUSING DANGEROUSLY DECREASED VISION. 1999 FORD EDDIE BAUER EXPEDITION. *JB
I NOTICE OIL DROPS ON MY DRIVEWAY, I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN TO VERIFY WHERE LEAK WAS COMING FROM, THE DEALER STATED THAT MY HEAD GASKET WAS BLOWN. THE REPAIR COST FOR LABOR AND PARTS WOULD BE OVER $1200.00. THE EXTENDED WARRENTY WOULD NOT COVER SEAL OR GASKET FOR THIS VEHICLE. I REQUEST NHTSA HAVE FORD DEALER OR MANUFACTOR'S DO A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE ENGINE. MY VEHICLE HAS THE 4.6L ENGINE WITH LESS THAN 49000 MILES.
HEAD WARPED ON ENGINE .008". WARP BEYOND REPAIR TOLERANCE THEREBY REQUIRING A COMPLETE REBUILD WITH NEW HEADS OR NEW ENGINE. FORD REFUSED TO OFFER ANY HELP WITH THIS EVEN THOUGH THIS HAPPENED AT ONLY 75,000 MILES. ENGINE SHOWS EVIDENCE OF HEAD GASKET SEEPAGE OVER A LONG PERIOD OF TIME. IN SERVICE MANAGER'S OPINION "ONLY A HEAD GASKET FAILURE COULD CAUSE THIS TYPE OF FAILURE." THIS 5.4L V8 IS RENOWNED FOR HEAD GASKET FAILURE. ACCORDING TO FORD'S OWN ADMISSION THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND THEREFORE THIS MOTOR HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM FROM DAY 1 OF THE MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY. 6 MONTHS PRIOR TO THIS FAILURE THIS HAD HAD A BROKEN VALVE SPRING. THESE HEADS ARE ALSO RENOWNED FOR BLOWING SPARK PLUGS RIGHT OF THE HEAD. *NLM
THERE IS A RIGHT SIDE CYLINDER HEAD OIL LEAK CAUSED BY SMALL METAL CHIPS LEFT BETWEEN THE HEAD AND BLOCK DURING MANUFACTURE .FORD KNOWS ABOUT THE PROBLEM ,SAYS IT HAPPENED TO 1 IN 10 1999 FORD EXPEDITIONS ,AND OTHER MODELS.THEY HAVE DISMISSED MY COMPLAINT AND OFFER NO FINANCIAL ASISSTANCE.REPAIR COSTS 5000 DOLLARS
HEAD GASKETS BLOWING OUT ON 1999 FORD EXPEDITIONS. I HAVE HAD MINE REPLACED 3 TIMES SO FAR. IT IS ALSO OCCURRING ON OTHER PEOPLES SAME VEHICLES. IT IS ON THE 4.6 AND 5.4 LITER ENGINES. THE LAST TIME I HAD IT TO THE DEALER FOR THIS I ASKED WHY THIS KEEPS HAPPENING? THEY SAID THAT FORD IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT KEEPS TELLING THE DEALER TO REPLACE THE GASKETS. THERE IS A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT HERE.*JB
CONSUMER STATE THAT WHILE DRIVING WITHOUT WARNING THE HEAD GASKET BLEW CAUSING FLUID TO LEAK OUT. DEALER NOTIFIED. TS
1999 EXPEDITION SPARE TIRE CABLE FAILED. BROKE WHILE PULLING OUT OF A PARKING LOT CAUSING THE SPARE TIRE TO FALL TO THE GROUND. COULD HAVE CAUSED A FATALITY IN ANOTHER VEHICLE IF IT OCCURED AT HIGH SPEED. A TIRE SHOP WAS THE LAST TO REPLACE THE SPARE. THEY SAY THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE. I HAVE ALWAYS TIGHTENED IT FULLY IN THE PAST. I ASSUME THAT IT MAY HAVE BEEN A BIT LOOSE AND WORE THROUGH THE CABLE OVER TIME AS IT RUBBED ON THE WHEEL.
WHILE DRIVING MY 1999 FORD EXPEDITION 5.4L ON THE INTERSTATE AT 55 MPH, A HEARD A NOISE WHICH AT FIRST FELT LIKE SOMETHING CAUGHT IN THE FAN, BUT WAS ALTER DETERMINED THAT A SPARK PLUG #2 PASSENGER SIDE HAD BLOWN OUT AND BROKEN OFF THE COIL CAUSING CONTACT WITH THE 2 FUEL RAIL. I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AMONGST FORD TRITON ENGINE OWNERS AND THE ALUMINUM HEAD IS INADEQUATE IN KEEPING THE SPARK PLUGS INTACT AFTER 50, 00 MILES OR SO DUE TO A DESIGN DEFECT. AS I UNDERSTAND IT, FORD HAS RE-DESIGNED THE HEAD ON NEWER MODELS, BUT HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL FOR THIS DEFECT. I FEEL THAT A RECALL IS NECESSARY BECAUSE THE COIL CAN DAMAGE THE FUEL LINE AND THAT COULD CAUSE A FIRE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. *CB
THE INTERIOR LIGHTS WOULD FLICKER ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY. THE WINDSHEILD WIPERS WOULD TURN ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY. THE RADIO WOULD TURN ON AND OFF WITHOUT ANYBODY TOUCHING THE CONTROLS. TRUCK SWITCHES INTO 4X4 MODE WHEN DRIVEN THRU CAR WASH. I COULD HAVE NEGLECTED TO FIX THE PROBLEM, BUT, DECIDED TO HAVE NECESSARY REPAIRS DONE TO THE 1999 FORD EXPEDITION AT A COST OF ALMOST $2000 TO ME..... MY EXTENDED WARRANTY DID NOT COVER THE NECESSARY REPAIRS.......AND FORD (THE MANUFACTURER), WOULD NOT HELP EITHER. I HAD 2" GEM MODULES" REPLACED IN THIS VEHICLE WITHIN 1 AND 2 YEARS. THE SECOND TIME FORD/FORD DEALER REPLACED THE GEM MODULE. THE VEHICLE STILL SWITCHES INTO 4X4 AFTER GOING THROUGH A "DRIVE THRU" CAR WASH......WATER MUST BE CAUSING AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM SOMEWHERE UNDERNEATH THE TRUCK??????? THE FIRST GEM MODULE IS AVAILABLE----I PAID FOR IT, SO I KEPT IT.....BROOKDALKE FORD (DEALERSHIP), SAID THERE WAS WATER DAMAGE TO THE PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD WHICH IS WHAT THE GEM MODULE IS MADE UP OF.......THERE IS NO VISIBLE WATER DAMAGE TO THIS PART. I WORK FOR AN ELECTRONICS MANUFACTURER......AND A FEW OF OUR TECHNICIANS AGREED ---NO WATER DAMAGE.......IT'S A DESIGN PROBLEM BY THE MANUFACTURER OR THE DESIGNER....... OIL LEAK FROM RH HEAD/BLOCK INTERFACE. NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS AND TSB ABOUT THIS ISSUE INDICATE MANUFACTURING ASSYMBLY DEFECTS. TSB NOTE "CHIPS COULD BE PRESENT OR DIMPLES IN MATING SURFACE OF GASKET AREA". CUSTOMERS SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR MANUFACTURING PROBLEMS THAT ARE NONE TO BE PRESENT.
AN OIL LEAK ON RIGHT & LEFT BANKS OF THE 4.6L & 5.4L V8 WINSOR AND/OR ROMEO PRODUCED ENGINES COULD PRODUCE POSSIBLE OIL LEAK.CAUSING OIL TO LEAK ONTO THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND POSSIBLY CAUSING A FIRE. FORD CORP. IS AWARE OF THIS SITUATION AND HAS ISSUED A BULLETIN ARTICLE 02-22-7 PUBLISHED 10-31-2002
FAILURE OF THE TRANSMISSION AT 43,000 MILES OF 1999 FORD EXPEDITION 4 X 4 EDDIE BAUER CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD.
HEATER HOSE LEAKS AT THE BACK OF THE FIREWALL, DRIPS DOWN ON TOP OF SPARK PLUGS AND SHORTS OUT SPARK PLUG & WIRE. ALSO SEE SMOKE FROM OIL BURNING FROM SAME BACK AREA. NO OIL ON THE GROUND. ALSO, SMELL ANTIFREEZE & OIL THROUGH VENTS AFTER HEATER HOSE WAS REPAIRED.
MILEAGE LIGHTS IN DASHBOARD GO ON AND OFF, DIM AND THEN GET BRIGHT AGAIN.
THE SIDE VIEW MIRRORS LOSE THEIR MIRROR COATING. THE MIRROR IMAGE IS THEREFORE DIM AND A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD. A GOOD MIRROR CAN'T BE FOUND IN A SALVAGE YARD BECAUSE "THAT HAPPENS TO ALL FORD EXPEDITIONS".
CONSUMER STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AND NO WARNING THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE BALL JOINT FELL ONTO THE GROUND AND THE CONSUMER WAS FORCED TO PULL OVER. DEALER NOTIFIED. TS
WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FROM A PRIVATE OWNER WE KNEW VERY WELL AND ALL REGULAR MAINTANCE HAD BEEN PERFORMED ACCORDING TO FORD RECOMENDATIONS. IN 2001 WITH ONLY 30,000 MILES THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO HAVE O-RINGS REPLACED IN TRANSMISSION BECAUSE OF PROBLEMS WITH THE AUTOMATIC SHIFTING. WE HAD THE TRANSMISSION FLUSHED JUST PRIOR TO THE FOLLOWING INCIDENT AS RECOMMENDED BY THE FORD OWNERS MANUAL. IN JUNE 2002 WHILE TOWING A TRAILER (WEIGHTS WITHIN LIMITS OF VEHICLE REQUIREMENTS) WE EXPERIENCE A COMPLETE LOSS OF THE TRANSMISSION. ENGINE WOULD REV WHILE IN GEAR BUT ACTED LIKE IN NEUTRAL. TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS SPEWING OUT FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE AND SMOKING. WE PULLED SAFELY TO THE SIDE OF THE RODE BUT HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE NEXT AVAILABLE TOWN. THIS TRANSMISSION WAS EQUIPPED WITH AN AUXILLARY TRANSMISSION COOLER. THERE IS ONLY 58,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE, LESS THAN 30,000 SINCE THE LAST PROBLEM. WE WERE INFORMED BY THE SERVICE TECH THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEITHER DRIVE FORWARD OR IN REVERSE AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED WITH A FORD REBUILT TRANSMISSION. WITH IN APPROX. 1-2 MONTHS AFTER REPLACEMENT THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE SERVICE TECH INFORMED US THAT IT WAS A TRANSMISSION CODE. AFTER RESETTING THE LIGHT AND WAITING FOR AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE "TRANSMISSION PERSON" AT THE DEALERSHIP THE LIGHT DID NOT COME BACK ON AN THE SERVICE TECH ADVISED TO 'WAIT AND SEE'. IN DEC. 2002 WHILE DRIVING IN THE MOUNTAINS WITH 4 ADULTS AND 3 CHILDREN IN THE CAR NOT PULLING A TRAILER, THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS SHIFTING "HARD" AND AT INAPPROPRIATE TIMES WITH VARYIING RPMS AND SPEEDS. AFTER WAITING THE WEEKEND FOR THE APPOINTMENT TIME, THE SERVICE TECH INFORMED US THAT THE SOLINOID PACK IN THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED REPLACED. AT THIS POINT THERE IS ONLY 8,000MILES ON THE 2ND TRANSMISSION. THE SOLINOID PACK WAS REPLACED AND CURRENTLY THE VEHICLE HAS NOT HAD ANYMORE PROBLEMS.
AFTER AN OIL CHANGE AT 42K MILES, NOTICED A BURNING SMELL AND SOME SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE RIGHT SIDE ENGINE COMPARTMENT NEAR BATTERY. TOOK TRUCK TO DEALER AND WAS ADVISED THAT THE RIGHT SIDE HEAD GASKET WAS LEAKING TOWARDS THE REAR. VEHICLE OUT OF MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY BUT LUCKILY I HAD AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER MECHANIC THAT THERE IS INDEED A HEAD GASKET LEAK PROBLEM WITH THE 97-02 EXPEDITIONS. HEAD GASKETS SHOULD NOT FAIL AT 43K MILES AND FORD SHOULD REPAIR PROBLEM AT NO COST TO THE CONSUMER.
CONSUMER STATES HIS MIRRORS ARE GETTING DARK STAINS ON THEM, WHICH IMPAIRS HIS VISION. ALSO THE MIRROR PART IS FLAKING AWAY. TS

RIGHT CYLINDER HEAD GASKET LEAKING OIL. DEALER SAID NO WARRANTY TOO OLD AND TOO MANY MILES. IT'S A 1999 FORD EXPEDITION WITH 38,000 MILES. FORD KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM SEE TSB'S. BUT WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.
CONSUMER COULD TAKE VEHICLE OUT OF PARK WITHOUT THE FOOT ON THE BRAKE. DEALER NOTIFIED. TS...*AK
FRONT STALBILIZER LINKS BROKE ON 1999 EXPEDITION. *AK *CB *JB
CONSUMER STATED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION. ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR A THREE MONTH CHECK UP AND SAME CABLES WERE REPLACED AND TWO DAYS AFTER THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT. TS *TT
BOTH MIRRORS WERE SMOKING. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK
THE OUTSIDE MIRRORS ON MY 1999 FORD EXPEDITION ARE TURNING BLACK FROM THE INSIDE. THE RIGHT MIRROR IS ALMOST TOTALLY UNUSABLE DUE TO THE DISCOLORATION. THE LEFT MIRROR IS ALMOST TO THAT POINT AND IS BECOMING WORSE EACH DAY. I HAVE BEEN TO TWO SEPARATE DEALERSHIPS AND WHILE THEY AGREE THAT THEY HAVE SEEN OTHER EXPEDITIONS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM, FORD DOES NOT HAVE A RECALL FOR THIS. I CONTACTED FORD AND THEY SAID THEY WILL NOT REPLACE THEM SINCE THERE IS NO CURRENT RECALL. THE COST FOR REPLACING BOTH MIRRORS IS IN EXCESS OF $600. EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE IS NO LONGER IN WARRANTY, MIRRORS ARE SOMETHING THAT SHOULD LAST LONGER THAN 4-5 YEARS. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY HAZARD AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY FORD. THE CONDITION STARTED OCCURRING IN THE FALL OF 2002 WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD APPROXIMATELY 75,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. SINCE THAT TIME, THE MIRRORS HAVE GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. *JB
