DT: 1999 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONSUMER STATED THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WILL NOT TURN OFF UNTIL THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY TURNED OFF. IF THEY WERE TURNED ALL THE WAY ON THE REAR WIPERS WOULD NOT WORK. THE REAR WINDOW BROKEN AT ONE TIME, AND THE DEALERSHIP STATED THERE WAS A SHORT IN THE SWITCH THAT OPERATED THE WIPERS. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE SEPTEMBER 15, 2004. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO FIX THE PROBLEMS. *NM
WHILE GETTING ANOIL CHANGE MY MECHANIC NOTICED THAT A CONNECTING STRUT FOR THE FRONT STABILIZER BAR OF MY 1999 FORD EXPED. WAS COMPLETELY MISSING FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE. HE INFORMED ME THAT HE SEES A LOT OF THESE MISSING. I IMMEDIATLY WENT TO MY LOCAL DEALER AND ASKED IF THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS ONLY A RECALL AT THIS TIME ON THE FORD RANGERS. I HAVE NOW PURCHASED THE PARTS AND REPLACED THEM MYSELF.*AK
THE SILVER BACKING WAS PEEL OFF THE MIRRORS. THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT THE MIRRORS WERE NOT COVERED UNDER THE VEHICLE'S WARRANTY *NM
MY SIDEVEIW MIRRORS KEEP LOSING THE REFLECTIVE MIRROR. I HAVE REPLACED THEM BEFORE AND AFTER A WHILE THE NEW MIRRORS DO THE SAME THING OVER TIME. *KB
WHILE VEHICLE WAS PARKED BRAKE LIGHTS WERE OPERABLE. WHEN DRIVER SHIFTED THE VEHICLE FROM PARK TO DRIVE OR REVERSE BRAKE LIGHT FAILED TO ILLUMINATE. CONSUMER DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *AK
WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY AT EXPRESSWAY SPEEDS ALL OF A SUDDEN THERE WAS A POP SOUND AND THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND STARTED VIBRATING BADLY. WHEN GOT VEHICLE TO MECHANIC BY TOW TRUCK BECAUSE VEHICLE HAD NO POWER, IT WAS REVEALED TO ME THAT THE SPARK PLUG WAS BLOWN OUT THE HEAD OF THE MOTOR. IT WAS THE 3RD PLUG ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. MY VEHICLE HAS A COMPLETE EXTENDED WARRANTY BUT THE WARRANTY COMPANY CLAIMS THAT THIS IS DUE TO A LOOSE SPARK PLUG. THEY ARE THE ORIGINAL FACTORY PLUGS SUPPOSEDLY YOU DON'T HAVE TO TOUCH THEM FOR 100,000 MILES. MY MECHANIC STATES THAT THIS HAPPENED DUE TO A DEFECT IN THE HEAD BECAUSE HE NOT ONLY SPOKE TO FORD MECHANICS BUT HAS SEEN THIS BEFORE. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM, UPON RESEARCHING THIS MYSELF I FOUND MANY OTHER PEOPLE ON THE INTERNET WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM,AT THE SAME EXACT SITE ON THE MOTOR. THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THE HEAD OF THE MOTOR AND MY WARRANTY COMPANY SHOULD FIX MY TRUCK BECAUSE THIS IS A COVERED ITEM IT IS THE ENGINE BLOCK THAT MALFUNCTIONED , NOT THE SPARK PLUG!!!! PLEASE HELP BECAUSE THIS IS A VERY COSTLY REPAIR. *JB
WHEN BRAKING BRAKE PEDAL WOULD GO TO THE FLOOR AND WOULD MAKE A LOUD NOISE. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
I RECENTLY PURCHASED A USED 1999 FORD EXPEDITION AND HAVE FOUND THAT THE SIGNAL MIRRORS ARE DEFECTIVE. THE ADHESIVE THAT FORD USED ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE MIRROR GLASS IS EATING AWAY THE SILVER REFLECTIVE SURFACE. I FIRST NOTICED THIS PROBLEM ON OUR TEST DRIVE AND CAN TELL YOU THAT WITH THE RIGHT ANGLE OF THE SUN HITTING THOSE MIRRORS ,YOU CANNOT SEE OUT OF THEM. FORD OFFERED TO REPLACE THEM FOR ABOUT $180.00EA. PLUS $30.00 TO INSTALL. I FEEL THAT FORD SHOULD BE FORCED TO CORRECT THIS DEFECT AND NOT THE CONSUMER BEFORE SOMEONE IS INJURED OR KILLED IN AN ACCIDENT. THANKS FOR LISTENING,RICK. *AK
MOISTURE GOT BEHIND THE GLASS OF THE EXTERIOR 'REAR VIEW MIRRORS'; REAR VIEW MIRRORS AND DELAMINATED THE GLASS. THIS REDUCED VISIBILITY, ESPECIALLY WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT. THE DEALERSHIP WAS CONTACTED. *AK *TC
REAR AXEL SEAL LEAK CAUSED BY WEAR OF AXEL SURFACE AT BEARING. VEHILCE ONLY HAS 77,000 MILES. THIS REQUIRED REPLACEMENT OF AXEL PER DEALER ($600.) IT WAS STATED BY MECHANIC THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM TO EXPEDITIONS. *AK VEHILCE HAS BEEN SERVICED AT OR BETTER THAN MFG SPECIFICATIONS. LEAKING SEALS COULD LEAD TO FAILURE OF AXEL OR DIFFERENTIAL DUE TO LOSS OF LUBRICANT
DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD EXPEDITION. HAD TO HAVE REPAIRS DONE SEVERAL TIMES. THE FIRST TIME IT WAS THE ALTERNATOR. THEN, THERE WERE PROBLEMS WITH THE MOTOR. THE LAST TIME THERE WERE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. *AK
OIL WAS LEAKING FROM THE VEHICLE. MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH LOCAL MECHANIC, AND TOOK VEHICLE IN. IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT RIGHT HEAD GASKET WAS DEFECTIVE. THEN, VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, A DYE WAS PLACED INTO THE ENGINE, AND AFTER ONE WEEK IT WAS TAKEN BACK. THE MANUFACTURER STATED NOTHING COULD BE DONE. *AK
VEHICLE: 1999 FORD EXPEDITION. ROBLEM NEARLY CAUSED SERIOUS ACCIDENT: LOSS OF REFLECTIVE SURFACE (SILVER) ON BOTH EXTERIOR REAR-VIEW MIRRORS.*AK THIS VEHICLE PURCHASED IN AUG 1999 HAS DEFECTIVE SAFETY EQUIPMENT. THE REAR VIEW MIRRORS ARE LOSING THE REFLECTIVE SURFACES, DEVELOPING CRACJS IN THE SILVER BACKING AND ARE BECOMING UNSAFE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT EXPERIENCED ANY UNUSAL ENVIRONMENTAL EXPOSURE, IN FACT UNLIKE MY OTHER CARS (ALL OLDER THAN 1999) THE FORD EXPEDITION HAS BEEN GARAGE-KEPT. WHILE THE LOCAL FORD DEALER INDICATED MY EXPERIENCE WAS UNIQUE, I WOULD BE QUITE SURPRISED IF THIS CONDITION IS NOT AFFECTING OTHER VEHICLES OF THIS TYPE AND WISHED TO FILE A FORMAL SUBMISSION ON THE PROBLEM WITH YOU. I HAVE RECENTLY DISCOVERED (LOCAL NEWS CAST) THAT A PROBLEM I ENCOUNTERED WITH MY 1999 FORD EXPEDTION HAS BEEN REPORTED TO YOU DEPT ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. I WOULD LIKE TO ADD THAT I WAS TOLD BY A LOCAL MECHANIC THAT THIS IS A COMMON POROBLEM WITH THE FORD EXPEDITION AND F-150'S. THE DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE @1700.00 WAS CASUED BY A SPARK PLUG SHOOTING OUT OF THE CYLINDER CASUING DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE AND THE NEEDED REPAIRS WERE EXPENSIVE ABD TIME CONSUMING FOR OUR FAMILY NOT TO MENTION THE NEED FOR A RENTAL VEHICLE THAT PUSHED NEARLY 700.00. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED SPARE TIRE CABLE BROKE. THIS CAUSED THE TIRE TO FALL OFF FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. CONSUMER DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE SPARE TIRE CABLE ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
DRIVER SIDE SIGNAL MIRROR'S REFLECTIVE SURFACE HAS DETERIORATED - DEVELOPING DARK SPOTS DUE TO CHROME PLATING DELAMINATION. FORD DOESN'T WANT TO FIX IT - HOWEVER, THIS PRESENTS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE. *AK MIRRORS ARE NOT WEARABLE ITEMS LIKE BRAKE PADS. HAVING A MIRRORS SURFACE DETERIORATE ON IT'S OWN IS A MANUFACTURING/DESIGN FAILURE. FORD HAS NOTED THIS PROBLEM IN THEIR TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN LIST (NOTED BELOW) SO THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, YET REFUSE TO REPLACE THE MIRROR - INSTEAD WANTING TO CHARGE $310 FOR THE PART + INSTALLATION. MIRRORS ARE A SAFETY DEVICE, ESPECIALLY IN A LARGE VEHICLE LIKE THE THE FORD EXPEDITION - USING DEFECTIVE PARTS - ACKNOWLEDGING SAID PARTS AND THAN REFUSING TO REPLACE THEM IS INEXCUSABLE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WATER PENETRATED THE VEHICLE CAUSING THE GENERAL ELECTRICAL MODULE, AND FUSE BOX, TO CORRODE. THE VEHICLE STARTED ON ITS OWN AND CAUSED THE RADIO, HEATER, AND ALL OTHER ELECTRICAL FUNCTIONS TO FAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES FOR THE FAILURE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE ELECTRICAL MODULE AND THE FUSE BOX SEVERAL TIMES. THE WINDSHIELD WAS REPLACED, BUT THE DEALER WASN'T ABLE TO LOCATE DETERMINE WHERE THE WATER PENETRATED THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER TOOK A REPORT 0478403130 AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 135,000. UPDATED 3/8/11 *CN UPDATED 11/28/11 *CN
OUR LOCKED VEHICLE WAS BROKEN INTO AND A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF PERSONAL PROPERTY WAS STOLEN WITH NO APPARENT FORCED ENTRY. WHEN WE SPOKE TO A POLICE OFFICER WE WERE TOLD THAT THERE WAS A DESIGN FLAW IN THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE IN WHICH A SMALL SCREWDRIVER CAN BE INSERTED UNDER THE KEYLESS ENTRY DOOR LOCK AND POP OPEN THE DOOR LOCKS. WHEN WE INSPECTED FURTHER, WE DID FIND A SMALL DENT AND GOUGED OUT PAINT FROM APPARENT USE OF A SCREWDRIVER. WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FROM A DEALERSHIP IN JANUARY OF 2004. HAVE THERE BEEN ANY SERVICE BULLETINS PERTAINING TO THIS AND SHOULD THE DEALERSHIP HAVE RECTIFIED THIS PROBLEM BEFORE PUTTING IT BACK OUT ON THE MARKET?*AK
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY BEGAN TO SHAKE. THE CONSUMER STATED THEY HEARD A POP AND PULLED OVER ON THE SERVICE ROAD. UPON INSPECTION THE CONSUMER NOTICED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE RIGHT FRONT TIRE HAD SHREDDED COMPLETELY. SHE SAID HER HUSBAND CHANGED THE TIRE. SHE TRIED TO GET A REPLACEMENT FOR THE SHREDDED TIRE, SHE WAS TOLD NO, BECAUSE THAT WAS NOT ON RECALL. THE TIRE WAS AN ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT FIRESTONE WILDERNESS AT P265/70 R 17 WHICH HAD ABOUT 20,680 MILES ON THEM. THE CONSUMER FEELS THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE ESPECIALLY SINCE THE TIRE BLEWOUT DURING HEAVY TRAFFIC. *NM *NM
THE CONSUMER WAS MAKING A RIGHT TURN WHEN THE PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL TURNED OUTWARD AND FAILED TO MOVE. *JB IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE TIE ROD END FAILED.
1999 FORD EXPEDITION HAD FAILURE OF THE FRONT STABILIZER BAR LINKS. AFTER CHECKING ON INTERNET I FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON 1997-1998 FORDS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. I CHECKED WITH TWO DEALERS, FORD & MERCURY IN MY TOWN AND THEY SAID THAT THEY HAVE BEEN HAVING A CONSIDERABLY HIGHER NUMBER OF FAILURES OF THE STABILIZER BAR LINKS EVEN NOW. FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE SAID THAT THEY CAN'T HELP WITH THE PROBLEM AS THERE IS NOTHING IN THEIR DATA BASE REF. THE PROBLEM. *AK
IN DEC OF 2003 WE HAD A SPARK PLUG FOUL OUT, NOW 6 MONTHS LATER WE ARE INFORMED THAT WE HAD A RIGHT SIDE HEAD GASKET BLOWN AND A POWER STEERING PUMP LEAKING.
WHILE DRIVING TO MYRTLE BEACH I HEARD A LOUD BANG UNDER THE HOOD.I HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO A FORD DEALER WHERE THEY TOLD ME THE SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF THE CYLINDER HEAD.I HAVE READ MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE ON THE INTERNET. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE DUE TO THE STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE WHEN THIS HAPPENS.FORD SAID THEY WILL DO NOTHING AND IT WILL COST ME 3600.00 TO FIX THIS. WHO SAYS EVEN AFTER REPLACING THE HEAD IT WONT HAPPEN AGAIN AND AGAIN. I AM DISGUSTED WITH THE WHOLE THING. I THINK FORD SHOULD STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND FIX THIS PROBLEM.
I OWN A 1999 FORD EXPEDITION. I WAS DRIVING HOME WHEN I HEARD A BUMP IN THE BACK OF MY VEHICLE. I LOOKED IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR TO SEE MY SPARE TIRE BOUNCING OFF ANOTHER VEHICLE AND ROLLING DOWN THE STREET. IF I HAD BEEN GOING AT A FASTER RATE OF SPEED, SOMEONE COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED IF NOT KILLED. I STOPPED TO RETRIEVE THE TIRE WHEN I NOTICED THAT THE CABLE HOLDING THE TIRE HAD JUST SNAPPED. AFTER A LITTLE RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. WHEN I CALLED THE DEALER TO SEE IF THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL THEY SAID THERE HAD NOT, BUT THEY COULD SELL ME A REPLACEMENT FOR $78. THIS IS NOT JUST ABOUT MONEY, IT'S ABOUT A KNOWN PROBLEM THAT FORD NEEDS TO FIX. AS I SAID BEFORE, "SOMEONE CAN BE SERIOUSLY INJURED BY THIS PROBLEM". CAN YOU LOOK INTO THIS PROBLEM? THANKS. *AK
I OWN THE INFAMOUS 1999 FORD EXPEDITION WITH THE HEAD GASKET OIL LEAK. THOUGH I LOVED THIS CAR FROM THE DAY I PURCHASED IT NEW UP UNTIL THE TIME AT 50,000 MILES THE OIL STARTED TO LEAK. IT IS WELL MAINTAINED AND BABIED, SO FOR SOMETHING AS SERIOUS AS THIS TO HAPPEN TO ALL OF US WHO OWN THESE VEHICLES DISAPPOINTS ME. FORD WOULD ONLY PAY FOR HALF OF THE REPAIR, BUT I BELIEVE THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL BECAUSE OF THE SERIOUSNESS OF THE PROBLEM.A HEAD GASKET BLOWING? THE HEADS ARE ALSO DEFECTIVE FROM WHAT I HAVE READ. THAT IS NOT YOUR AVERAGE REPAIR. I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO REPLACE SOMETHING THAT WAS INSTALLED DEFECTIVE TO BEGIN WITH. I GUESS I WILL CONTINUE TO STUFF A RAG UP UNDER THE LEAK UNTIL FORD FEELS LIKE TAKING REPONSIBILITY FOR ITS FAILURES. *AK
1999 FORD EXPEDITION COLLIDED HEAD-ON WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE. BOTH WERE TRAVELLING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE EXPEDITION IMMEDIATELY CAUGHT FIRE, INCLUDING THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT.THE FIRE WALL FAILED AND FUEL APPARENTLY FED THE FIRE.
I PURCHASED MY 1999 FORD EXPEDITION USED, WITH 50,140 MILES ON IT. I ALSO PURCHASED AN ESP WARRANTY PLAN. MY ENGINE ALWAYS HAD A KNOCK WHEN COLD.I THOUGHT THAT WAS "NORMAL". ON THE WEEK OF APRIL 12TH, THE ENGINE KNOCK BECAME SEVERE AND THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN USING MORE OIL THAN USUAL. I BROUGHT IT TO JOHNSON FORD FOR REPAIR. MY SERVICE ADVISOR TOLD ME NOT TO WORRY, I HAD THE BEST WARRANTY PLAN THERE IS, AND THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 5.4 ENGINES.HE EVEN TOLD ME THAT HE SPENDS MUCH TIME CALLING IN SIMILIAR CLAIMS. THE DIAGNOSIS WAS "SPUN ROD BEARINGS". AFTER TWO WEEKS, MY CLAIM WAS "DENIED", AND I REMOVED THE VEHICLE FROM THE DEALERSHIP AFTER A $6400.00 ESTIMATE FOR A NEW MOTOR. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO A REPUTABLE INDEPENDENT, AND HAD TO PURCHASE A USED MOTOR FOR MY FORD. AFTER MUCH RESEARCH, I HAVE FOUND THAT NUMEROUS PEOPLE HAVE HAD COMPLAINTS ABOUT DEFECTS IN THE 5.4 LTR ENGINE. I FIND IT VERY FRUSTRATING TO HAVE SPENT $1100.00 ON A RENTAL CAR, $4300.00 ON REPAIRS, AND $335.00 TO JOHNSON FORD TO TELL ME THAT MY ENGINE FAILED. (I KNEW THAT WHEN I BROUGHT IT IN!) IN ADDITION TO THAT, I SPENT $2395.00 ON AN ESP WARRANTY THAT WAS OF NO USE TO ME. JOHNSON FORD IS CLAIMING THAT MY ENGINE FAILURE WAS DUE TO LACK OF MAINTENANCE. MOBILE TECH (THE INDEPENDENT) HAS STATED THAT MY ENGINE WAS SLUDGE FREE, AND THAT THEIR OPINION IS THAT IS WAS NOT LACK OF MAINTENANCE. I HAVE WRITTEN AT LEAST 20 LETTERS TO THE DEALERSHIP, THE BBB, AND DIFFERENT DEPARTMENTS OF FORD MOTOR COMPANY SINCE APRIL 30TH AND AM GETTING NO ANSWERS OR SATISFACTION. THE MOTOR REMAINS AT MOBILE TECH AS I HAVE REQUESTED AN EXAMINATION, AGAIN, FROM FORD MOTOR COMPANY. TO DATE, I HAVE BEEN REPEATEDLY DENIED MY REQUEST.*AK
WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE THERE IS A VIBRATION IN THE REAR END WITH A LOUD BUMPING NOISE. MUCH LIKE A 4X4 IN A HARD TURN. THE DEALER HAS REPAIRED THE PROBLEM FOUR OTHER TIMES AND THIS WILL BE THE FIFTH. I AM WORRIED THAT THIS COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE WITH SOMETHING HAPPENING TO THE AXLE WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 56K MILES ON IT. THE VEHICLE ALSO LURCHES FORWARD ON START UP. *JB
PURCHASED A NEW SET OF YOKOHAMA GEOLANDER AT TIRES SIZE 265/70/17 MOUNTED ON 1999 FORD EXPEDITION. TIRES WERE ROTATED WITH EVERY OIL CHANGE, AND AFTER 17,000 MILES HAVE COMPLETELY WORN OUT.

IN 2004, A TECHNICIAN CONCLUDED THAT THE ENGINE COMPRESSOR STRIPS THE SPARK PLUG THREAD, WHICH CAUSES THE PLUGS TO EJECT. HE THEN REPLACED THE ENGINE HEAD, AND ECM AT AN EXPENSE OF $2,200.00. THE FAILURE RESURFACED SO HE TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO A REPAIR FACILITY.A MECHANIC REPLACED THE SPARK PLUG WIRES WITH A SPECIAL THREAD, AT AN EXPENSE OF $1,600.00. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 125,000. THE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS UNAVAILABLE.
#3 SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT AT 67,000 MILES. ORIGINAL PLUGS FROM MANUFACTURE WITH ALL FACTORY PARTS. SPOKE WITH SEVERAL FORD MECHANICS AND OTHERS WHO HAVE EXTENSIVE WORK ON THIS PROBLEM. FORD ACKNOWLEDGES NO DESIGN ERRORS. I FOUND ONLINE THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO SEVERAL FORD OWNERS WITH THE 5.4 L V8 AND THE V10 ENGINE AND ON OCCASION WITH 4.6L V8. ABOUT A YEAR AGO THE CYLINDER HEAD GASKET ON OUR 1999 FORD EXPEDITION WAS REPLACED DUE TO LEAKING OIL, BY THE DEALERSHIP. THE MILEAGE WAS 35,000. NOW A YEAR LATER, WHILE TRAVELING AT 70 MPH. ON THE FREEWAY, A SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF THE SAME RIGHT CYLINDER. THE LOUD NOISE AND CLATTER CAUSED A KNEE JERK RESPONSE,ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THE VEHICLE'S MILEAGE IS NOW ONLY 46,000. I BOUGHT A 99 EXPEDITION USED IN MARCH 2004, FROM THE LOCAL FORD DEALER IN CLARKSBURG, WV. FROM THE 2ND DAY I HAD IT HOME IT HAS HAD ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS IN THE RAIN. THE REAR WIPER WOULD STOP IMMEDIATELY AND THE FRONT WIPERS WOULD NOT COME BACK ON IF THE CAR WAS IN DRIVE AFTER YOU HAD TURNED THEM OFF. DURING THE FIRST INCIDENT I STOPPED TO GET GAS AND WHEN I GOT IN TO LEAVE THE PUMPS MY HEADLIGHTS WOULD NOT COME BACK ON. I DROVE THE TWO BLOCKS TO MY HOUSE BY THE STREET LIGHTS. FRANKLY, I NEED YOUR ADVICE ON A MATTER OF GREAT CONCERN I BOUGHT A 1999 FORD EXPEDITION FROM WALDORF FORD IN OCT 2002. RECENTLY I HAD A BREAK DOWN; I HAD THREE SPARK PLUGS BLOW-OUT, YESTERDAY I WAS TOLD THAT THREE CYLINDERS ARE GONE DUE FROM THE DAMAGE OF THE SPARK PLUGS. THE ASSISTANT TEAM MGR SAID IT WOULD COST $6000.00 TO GET A NEW ENGINE OR GET A NEW VEHICLE; I COULDN'T BELIEVE MY EARS. THESE TRUCKS ARE LEMONS AND I BELIEVE ITS TIME THAT FORD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR ACTIONS AND RECALLS THESE ENGINE. I GUESS THEY ARE WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO GET KILLED. MY TRUCK LOST POWER IN THE MIDDLE OF RUSH HOUR AND I WAS NEARLY REAR ENDED. I PURCHASED A 1999 EXPEDITON. AND SHORTLY AFTER BUYING IT NOTICE A TAPPING NOISE THAT GOES AWAY AFTER ABOUT 2-3 MINUTES OF WARM UP. I BELIEVE THER IS OTHER PROBLEMS CAUSING THIS. APPROXIMATELY 2 WEEKS AGO, I NOTICED A BURNING SMELL/OIL LEAK IN MY 1999 EXPEDITION. I PROMPTLY TOOK IT IN TO MY MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT IT HAD A LEAKING HEAD GASKET (THIS ENGINE HAS ONLY 46,000 MILES ON IT, AND THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN EXTREMELY WELL MAINTAINED). I SPENT MANY HOURS ON THE PHONE WITH FORD, BUT WAS TOLD THEY WOULD NOT HELP. FEELING STUCK, I WENT AHEAD AND AUTHORIZED MY MECHANIC TO GO AHEAD AND FIX THE HEAD GASKET AT OUR EXPENSE (OF NEARLY $2000)! UNFORTUNATELY, THIS NIGHTMARE ONLY GOT WORSE! YESTERDAY, MY MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT WHILE TEARING DOWN THE ENGINE TO GET TO THE HEAD GASKET, HE DETERMINED THAT THE TIMING CHAIN HAS WORN CLEAR INTO THE GUIDES/TENSIONERS. HE (AND 2 OTHER QUALIFIED MECHANICS) HAVE STATED THAT THERE IS NO EXPLANATION FOR THIS OTHER THAN DEFECTIVE MANUFACTURING. THERE IS NOTHING I COULD HAVE DONE TO HAVE CAUSED THIS. THE COST TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM WOULD BE AN ADDITIONAL $1500, NOW PUTTING MY TOTAL AT NEARLY $3500! BOTH THE MECHANIC AND I SPENT MUCH OF YESTERDAY ON THE TELEPHONE (YET AGAIN) WITH FORD, BUT THEY ARE STILL REFUSING TO TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THESE FAULTY ENGINES! IT SICKENS ME THAT THEY CAN CHARGE $40,000 FOR A VEHICLE, THEN NOT BE MADE TO STAND BEHIND THEM!
