THIS IS THE 2ND TIME A SPARK PLUG BLEW, STRIPPING THE THREADS AGAIN. FORD REALLY NEEDS TO DO A RECALL. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS GOOGLE FORDS BLOWN SPARK PLUG ITS THE FIRST THING THAT COMES UP. *TR
VEHICLE WAS HAVIN JERKIN ISSUES AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON, TOOK TO SHOP AND IT WAS ABOUT TO BLOW OUT THE SPARK PLUG, I WAS LUCKY AND CAUGHT IT AND GOT IT REPLACED BUT I HAVE DONE RESEARCH AND SEEN THAT MANY OTHERS HAVEN'T BEEN AND THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE. MY NEXT PROBLEM WAS ACCELERATION, THE GAS PEDAL ACCELERATED AND CAUSE ME TO CRASH INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE FLED THE SCENE, THERE WAS NO MAJOR INJURIES BUT 4 KIDS WERE IN THE VEHICLE AND ARE NOW SCARED TO EVEN RIDE WITH ME. MENTAL STRESS IS A MAJOR INJURY IN MY CONCERN CAUSE IT HURTS MY HEART TO KNOW MY OWN CHILDREN ARE SCARED THAT I WONT PROTECT THEM. MY THIRD PROBLEM IS THAT JUST YESTERDAY WE PARKED ON THE SIDE OF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THE VEHICLE DIED AND WONT START, TALKED TO MECHANICS AND THEY SAY 01 FORDS HAVE THIS PROBLEM, WE NOW HAVE A BROKE DOWN VEHICLE AND NOT TOO SURE WHAT THE DEFECT HAS CAUSED MORE PROBLEMS TO BE WORSE. DUE TO THE DEFECT NOW THE STARTER SOLENOID IS OUT AND WE ARE UNSURE IF POSSIBLY EVEN THE FUEL PUMP. FORD KNOWS OF ALL THESE COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER OWNERS AND HAS DONE NOTHING. JUST IN MY FAMILY I HAVE 2 OTHERS THAT HAVE THE SAME VEHICLE AND HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS, WHY IS IT THAT FORD IS NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT THESE DEFECTS THAT CAN CAUSE MAJOR ACCIDENTS AND INJURIES??? *TR
I AM HAVING VARIOUS ELECTRICAL ISSUES RANGING FROM CHECK ENGINE LIGHT GOING ON PERIODICALLY WITH CODES NOT STORED WHEN CHECKED, ON, DOME LIGHT IN THE CAR NOT TURN ON WHEN DRIVER DOOR OPENED, RADIO NOT WORKING WHEN KEY IS IN ON POSITION, DASH LIGHTS GO OFF INTERMITTENTLY. ONE NIGHT DURING A VERY HEAVY RAIN STORM THE ALARM WENT OFF AND WE WERE UNABLE TO DISABLE FOR OVER 30 MINS. HAD TO REMOVE THE BATTERY FOR THE BEEPING TO STOP. WHEN WE CHECKED THE NEXT DAY, INSIDE THE VEHICLE WAS A PUDDLE OF WATER ON THE DASHBOARD & DROPLETS WERE COMING FROM THE TOP DRIVERS SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD. ALSO NOTICED THAT WATER WAS STREAMING DOWN FROM INSIDE A HANDLE ON THE FRAME BY SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD ON DRIVER SIDE. UNAWARE OF GLOBAL WINDSHIELD/SEAL ISSUES WITH FORD WE PROCEEDED TO HAVE THE WINDSHIELD REPLACED. AT THE TIME WE WERE UNAWARE OF ANY ADDITIONAL DAMAGE. SHORTLY AFTER WHILE DRIVING WE BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE VARIOUS EPISODES OF THE CAR REVVING ITSELF UP, AS IF IT WAS IN CONTROL OF ITS OWN SPEED, MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO CONTROL THE CAR. DURING THESE EPISODES OF ACCELERATION THE CAR TEMPERATURE & OIL GAUGES REGISTERED AT OVERHEATED LEVELS & MANY TIMES THE DASH LIGHTS WOULD GO OFF. IN THIS CASE I PULLED OVER AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. AFTER A COUPLE OF MINUTES WHEN I TURNED THE CAR ON, THE CAR WAS BACK TO NORMAL AS IF NOTHING HAD HAPPENED. TYPICALLY WHEN THIS HAPPENED ALTHOUGH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS LIT, WHEN I TOOK THE CAR IN TO BE SERVICED BY THE DEALER I WAS TOLD NO ERROR CODES WERE STORED IN THE VEHICLE. THIS VEHICLE CONTINUES TO SELF ACCELERATE AND REV UP INTERMITTENTLY. AT PRESENT I NEED TO HAVE THE CAR SMOGGED FOR RENEWAL BUT THE VEHICLE SYSTEM READINESS TEST REGISTER INCOMPLETE AND THERE ARE NO FAULTY CODES LISTED. I HAVE READ THAT VARIOUS OWNERS EXPERIENCE THESE CONDITIONS WHICH HAS BEEN CAUSED BY WATER LEAK INTO THE FUSE BOX AND THE GEM DUE TO THE WINDSHIELD SEAL FAILURE. *TR
THIS HAS BECOME A SERIOUS ISSUE. GRANTED WE BOUGHT THE EXPEDITION USED 3 YEARS AGO, BUT HAVING THE PLUGS BLOW OUT 4 TIMES (4 DIFFERENT PLUGS) AND NOW HAVING TO GET INTO THE HEAD TO FIX THE FIRST ONE THAT THE SHOP REPLACED WITH A HELIX-COIL....THE HELIX-COIL ACTUALLY SHATTERED! SENDING BITS OF IT INTO OUR ENGINE. THE SHOP WANTED 2300.00 TO FIX IT THIS TIME. SERIOUSLY? WITH ALL OF THE MILES ON IT NOW IT IS JUST BARELY THE APPRAISAL VALUE OF THE TRUCK'S WORTH. WE HAVE SEEN MANY REPORTS OF THIS HAPPENING TO OUR TYPE OF ENGINE. WHEN YOU HAVE AN ALUMINUM HEAD AND ONLY 3 THREADS PER SPARK PLUG...IT JUST DOESN'T WORK. THANKFULLY WE HAVE NEVER CAUGHT FIRE DUE TO THE ISSUE AND HAVE BEEN LUCKY ENOUGH TO GET IT TO A SHOP. BUT AT THE SAME TIME WE HAVE HAD TO BORROW MONEY OR USE MONEY THAT NEEDED TO GO TO OTHER BILLS TO PAY FOR IT. FORD NEEDS TO FIX THIS! WHEN YOU PAY MORE FOR REPAIRS THEN THE ACTUAL VALUE OF THE VEHICLE....THERE IS SOMETHING SERIOUSLY WRONG! *TR
SLOWING FOR A LIGHT, TRUCK LUNGED FORWARD WHILE PLACING FOOT ON BRAKE. REPEATED SITUATION ON WED 05/30/12 WHILE SITTING AT A DRIVE THRU, ALMOST HIT CAR IN FRONT OF ME. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED, THE SPARE TIRE DETACHED FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE CHASSIS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 121,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 121,400. UPDATED 06/29/12 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE CABLE HOLDING THE SPARE TIRE BROKE. UPDATED 07/10/12
AFTER DROPPING OFF MY CHILDREN AT DAYCARE I STOPPED AT THE STORE. WHEN I GOT BACK INTO MY CAR AND STARTED IT, IT MADE A LOUD POP LIKE SOMETHING HAD CAME OFF. SO I PROCEEDED TO TURN THE IGNITION ON AND THEN SMOKE CAME OUT OF THE TOP VENTS AND THE TRUCK BEGAN MAKING A LOUD POPPING NOISE AND THE ENGINE WAS SHAKING. I WAS SCARED AS HELL AND I THOUGHT THE TRUCK WAS ABOUT TO BLOW UP FROM THE SOUND OF IT. SO I CALMED DOWN AND DROVE TO THE AUTO SHOP THANKFULLY DOWN THE STREET. WELL MY SPARK PLUG HAD BLEW OUT THE HEAD AND THAT'S WHERE THE SMOKE WAS COMING FROM. I HAD JUST REPLACED THE #5 COIL AND PLUG WITH FORD ON FEBRUARY 23, 2012 AND THAT WAS $340.61. I AM BARELY MAKING IT FINANCIALLY AND TO READ ALL OF THESE PROBLEMS WITH THIS TRUCK AND FORD NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY OF THE SITUATION IS DISHEARTENING. I AM A SINGLE MOTHER OF THREE CHILDREN AND LIVE IN AN AREA WITH NO PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION SO I AM NOW WITHOUT A VEHICLE AND NO WAY TO GET TO WORK AND SUPPORT MY FAMILY, NOW WHAT DO I DO? ITS AMAZING HOW THIS DEALERSHIP CAN SWOOP YOU IN AND TAKE YOUR MONEY AND REQUIRE YOU TO MAKE YOUR PAYMENTS ON TIME BUT WON'T PROVIDE YOU WITH A SAFE VEHICLE. I NOW HAVE TO GET A CAB TO PICK MY KIDS UP FROM DAYCARE BECAUSE I CAN'T DRIVE MY TRUCK, NOT TO MENTION WHEN YOU GET INSIDE IT SMELLS LIKE PURE SMOKE WHICH MAKES IT SCARY TO EVEN WANNA TURN THE THING ON. VERY FRUSTRATED AND DISAPPOINTED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD EXPEDITION. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THERE WAS A LOUD BANG AS THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SWAY ABNORMALLY. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO GAIN CONTROL AND IMMEDIATELY CAME TO AN ABRUPT STOP. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DISCOVERED THAT THE REAR UPPER AND LOWER TRAILING ARMS WERE FRACTURED AS A RESULT OF RUST AND CORROSION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE AND HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 136,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BUCKLE UNLATCHED INDEPENDENTLY. THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE WOULD NOT REMAIN FULLY CLOSED WHENEVER LATCHED. THERE WAS A RECALL A RECALL RELATED TO THE FAILURE UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 01V227001 (SEAT BELTS) HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 194,000.
A SPARKPLUG BLEW OUT OF MY ENGINE AND ANOTHER WAS LOOSE. THE PLUG IN QUESTION RUINED THE THREADS IN THE CYLINDER HEAD, AND WILL REQUIRE $700-$1000 FOR THE DEALER TO FIX. A SIMPLE GOOGLE SEARCH PROVES FORD HAD BEEN HAVING A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THIS HAPPENING FOR SEVERAL YEARS, YET HAS DID NOTHING ABOUT IT !! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRAILING ARMS DETACHED WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. THE REPAIR SHOP STATED THAT THE UPPER AND LOWER TRAILING ARMS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED ON BOTH SIDES OF THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 128,400 UPDATED 02/27/12 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED BOTH TRAILING ARMS HAD COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT AND FAILED WHICH CAUSED THE REAR END TO BECOME LOOSE. ON THE MORNING OF JANUARY 26, 2012 I PARKED MAY CAR AT MY EMPLOYEE PARKING LOT AT APPROXIMATELY 5:50AM. I HEAD TO WORK LIKE ANY ORDINARY DAY, AND AT APPROXIMATELY 8:30 AM, I HAD CO-WORKERS INFORMING ME THAT MY CAR WAS ON FIRE. I RAN OUT TO THE PARKING LOT AND FOUND MY CAR IN FLAMES. MY 2001 FORD EXPEDITION EDDIE BAUER CAUSED THE TWO CARS ON MY SIDES TO CATCH ON FIRE AS WELL. WHEN THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED IT WAS TOO LATE TO SAVE ANYTHING FROM THE CAR. IT WAS A TOTAL LOSS, EVERYTHING INSIDE WAS DESTROYED INTO ASHES, MY PERSONAL BELONGINGS WERE UNRECOGNIZABLE. I ONLY HAD LIABILITY INSURANCE ON MY CAR, AND WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR THE DAMAGES THAT MY CAR CAUSED TO THE OTHER PEOPLE..I AM NOW LEFT WITH NO CAR, AND HAVING THE BLAME OF THE FIRE WHEN I DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG. MY FORD EXPEDITION WAS IN PERFECT CONDITIONS AND UP TO DATE WITH ALL OF THE SERVICES; NOW THAT IT WAS THE FAMILY CAR AND WE TRAVELED ALL AROUND THE COUNTRY WITH IT. WE WERE THE ONLY OWNERS AND BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW FOR A REASON. THE CRUISE CONTROL RECALL WAS TAKEN CARE OF IMMEDIATELY AFTER RECEIVING THE LETTER IN THE YEAR 2004, AND WAS NEVER RE-INSTALLED. THE CAUSES OF THE FIRE ARE STILL UNKNOWN, AND I WILL LIKE TO LET FORD KNOW OF THE SITUATION SO THEY CAN DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. IT IS SUCH A TRAUMATIZING SITUATION THAT I WOULD NOT LIKE ANYONE ELSE TO EXPERIENCE. I HAVE LOST ALL OF MY TRUST ON FORD. BE AWARE PEOPLE, DO NOT PARK NEXT TO A FORD, YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN THEY MIGHT CATCH ON FIRE. *KB
WATER APPEARS TO HAVE LEAKED INTO THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM CAUSING THE WIPERS TO NOT FUNCTION AT ALL. WHEN THE WIPERS ARE TURNED ON, WE HEAR THE WIPER MOTOR CLICK; BUT WIPERS DO NOT CLEAR THE WINDSHIELD. *JS
THE LIGHT FOR THE WIPERS SYSTEM HAS BEEN ON SINCE WE BOUGHT THE CAR FROM THE DEALERSHIP. IT HAS NEVER BEEN ABLE TO SPRAY FLUID.
MY HUSBAND WAS ON HIS WAY HOME FROM WORK. HE WAS GOING AT ABOUT 70-75 MPH WHEN THE #3 SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT. IT LEFT HIM STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE. IT HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION THAT SPARK PLUG BLOWOUTS ARE A COMMON DEFECT ON MY VEHICLE YET FORD TAKES NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR IT, COSTING THE VEHICLE OWNERS A LARGE AMOUNT OF MONEY AND COULD CAUSE SERIOUS ACCIDENTS. *TR
WHILE TWO HOURS FROM HOME BRINGING MY SON HOME FROM SURGERY, WHILE GETTING OFF THE FREEWAY MAY VEHICLE MADE A HORRIBLE SOUND LIKE A CHOPPER MOTORCYCLE AND WHEN I SPENT OVER A $1,000.00 TO TOW MY CAR HOME TO FIND OUT THE SPARK PLUG #3 BLEW OUT AND STRIPPED OUT SO NOW I HAVE NO VEHICLE AND TOLD BY FORD DEALERSHIP REPAIR THAT IT WAS A DESIGN FLAW ON THE ALUMINUM BLOCK AND NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND WOULD REQUIRE A HELICOIL BUT COULD HAPPEN TO THE OTHER PLUGS. PLUS IT WOULD COST ME OVER $2000.00 TO REPAIR. I HAVE SEEN LOTS OF OTHER PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM I HAVE A 5.4 L ENGINE AND MY VEHICLE RUNS STRONG I WOULD OF HOPED FORD WOULD OF STOOD BEHIND THIS BUT I WAS WRONG I WILL DEFINITELY CONSIDER BUYING A DIFFERENT BRAND LIKE A MAZDA OR TOYOTA. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2001 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SHUT OFF FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, WHEN THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE AND BURNED TO THE GROUND. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT APPEARED ON THE SCENE AND EXTINGUISHED THE FLAMES. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FIRE ORIGINATED AT THE SPEED CONTROL SWITCH. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED HOME. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 93,000.
#3 SPARK PLUG EJECTED FROM CYLINDER HOLE AT FREEWAY SPEED. ORIGINAL PLUGS, NEVER CHANGED, NEVER REMOVED OR CHECKED FROM DEALER DELIVERY AT NEW CAR IN 2001. *TR
VEHICLE WAS PARKED AT MY HOUSE, AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE MOTOR WENT ON FIRE. DO NOT KNOW WHY. THE FRONT LAFT SIDE. *TT
I WAS BACKING INTO MY BARN TO HOOK UP MY BOAT, ALL OF A SUDDEN THE ENGINE REVVED UP TO MAX REVES AND IN A MATTER OF SECONDS HAD BOUNCED OFF THE BOAT SIDE , DAMAGING THE BOAT AND CONTINUED ON TO TEAR OUT A WALL IN MY BARN. NOT KNOWING THE EXTENT OF THE DAMAGE I APPLIED THE BRAKE AND SHIFTED INTO DRIVE. THE VEHICLE ENGINE CONTINUED TO REV AT MAX SPEED TORE DOWN MY DRIVE HIT MY NEIGHBORS DRIVE AND IT FLIPPED OVER AND TOOK A 4 INCH TREE OUT BY THE ROOTS. IT LANDED ON ITS TOP WITH ME IN IT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. THIS ALL HAPPENED SO QUICKLY I HAD NO TIME TO RESPOND AS I WAS BEING BOUNCED AROUND IN THE TRUCK. JUST GLAD THIS DID NOT HAPPEN ON THE HIGHWAY AS SOMEONE COULD BE KILLED. *TR

A POLICE REPORT WAS ALSO AVAILABLE. THE DEALER DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 120,000. THERE WAS ALSO DAMAGE TO TWO ADDITIONAL VEHICLES PARKED IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH IS FAILING WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL/COLUMN IS PUT INTO A LOWER POSITION. THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL FAILS AND GOES TO A RAPID PULSE UNLESS THE STEERING WHEEL IS IN THE HIGHEST POSITION. THIS IS THE EXACT SAME ISSUE WITH THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH AFFECTING THE TURN SIGNALS ON MY 2001 EB EXPEDITION THAT I SEE ALL OVER THE INTERNET AND AS IS BEING ADDRESSED IN AN ANNOUNCED RECALL FOR OTHER FORD VEHICLES. A WEEK AGO I WAS DRIVING MY 2001 FORD EXPEDITION TO FRIENDS FOR A SOCIAL VISIT. ON THE WAY, I DROVE AS I NORMALLY DO THE SPEED LIMIT AS POSTED. I TRULY AM A LOYAL FORD FAN AND OWNER OF SEVERAL, BUT THIS IS BY FAR THE WORST VEHICLE I HAVE EVER OWNED! I AM THOROUGHLY DISGUSTED WITH THIS PIECE OF YOU KNOW WHAT! AT APPROXIMATELY 1:15PM ON 5/7/2011, THE VEHICLE SPONTANEOUSLY CAUGHT FIRE AND SUBSEQUENTLY CAUGHT A LARGE PORTION OF THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT ON FIRE. THE TOTAL DAMAGE IS STILL UNTOLD, BUT THE FIRE HAS SHUT THE DEALERSHIP DOWN UNTIL IT IS DEEMED SAFE TO OPEN AGAIN. AFTER SPEAKING WITH FIRE OFFICIALS AND HEARING THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AMONG THIS MAKE AND MODEL VEHICLE I DID RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH HAS BEEN FOUND TO BE THE CULPRIT OF MANY FIRES JUST LIKE THIS ONE.
