IN THE LAST FEW MONTHS, I HAVE NOTICED THAT WHEN IT RAINS, MY BLOWER MOTOR WILL RUN ON HIGH-SPEED AND MY LIGHTS WILL FLICKER AFTER I TURN THE VEHICLE OFF. AT FIRST IT WOULD STOP AFTER A FEW SECONDS, HOWEVER THIS LAST TIME, IT RAN FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES AND FINALLY SHUT OFF. I HAVE A CO-WORKER WHO HAS THE EXACT SAME EXPEDITION AND ASKED HIM IF HE'S HAD THIS HAPPEN TOO HIM, WHICH HE STATED YES AND HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR AROUND 6 MONTHS. I CALLED FORD MOTOR CO TO INQUIRE ABOUT A RECALL, SINCE THIS IS VERY UNIQUE IN NATURE, AND (OF COURSE) THEY HAVE NO RECORD NOR KEEP ANY DATA ON ANYTHING (ACCORDING TOO THE REP). NOT QUITE SURE WHAT THEIR JOB IS! SO I CALLED THE LOCAL DEALER AND THEY WERE 'FAMILIAR' WITH MY PROBLEM AND HAD A 'FEW' FIXED. WELL, AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET, IT TURNS OUT THERE'S MORE THAN JUST A 'FEW' INCIDENTS.. THERE ARE SEVERAL!!! THE PROBLEM APPEARS TOO START WITH A WATER LEAK IN THE WINDSHIELD, GOING TO THE FUSE BOX AND GEMODULE WHICH IN TURN SENDS ELECTRICAL CURRENTS TO THE ABS MODULE WHICH CAUSE ALL SORTS OF PROBLEMS. NOW IF THIS ISN'T A FORD MANUFACTURERS DEFECT VERSUS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR, THAN I GUESS MY COLLEGE EDUCATION MEANS NOTHING. FROM MY RESEARCH AND THE LOCAL DEALERS QUOTE, THE COST OF THIS REPAIR STARTS A $1000.00.!! AS OF TODAY, I HAVE NOT FIXED IT, I'M DECIDING IT I WANT TO GET A DIFF VEHICLE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD EXPEDITION. THE VEHICLE HAD CONTINENTAL GRABBER AW TIRES, SIZE P275/60R17 (NA) THREE YEARS AGO. AT THAT TIME, ALL FOUR TIRES HAD TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THE VEHICLE DROVE ROUGHLY AND THE TIRES BEGAN TO FORM BUBBLES. THE TIRES WERE REPLACED AT 30,000 MILES AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE, EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS A SAFETY RECALL. THE VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS GENERAL CONTINENTAL CONTITRAC SUV TIRES, SIZE 275/60R17 (NA) AND THEY ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME FAILURE. THE CONTACT WOULD LIKE TO BE REIMBURSED FOR THE FIRST SET OF TIRES THAT HE REPLACED AND TO HAVE THE CURRENT TIRES REPLACED. HE REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 02T012000 (TIRES:TREAD/BELT). THE DOT NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE VEHICLE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 68,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000. THE TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR HANDLE IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT WAS STRIPPED TO THE POINT WHERE HE COULD NOT USE IT TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. THE HANDLE FINALLY DETACHED FROM THE DOOR AND CANNOT BE BOLTED BACK. FORD STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS. THE PURCHASE DATE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 93,450. THE SPARK PLUG ON THE 8TH CYLINDER BLEW UP AND CAUSE A SHORT ON THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. *TR
ON 2 FEBRUARY 2008, MY WIFE PUT OUR 2001 FORD EXPEDITION IN REVERSE TO BACK INTO A PARKING SPOT. AT THIS MOMENT THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AT AN EXTREME RATE OF SPEED BACKWARDS. MY WIFE ATTEMPTED SEVERAL TIMES TO GAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE BRAKES FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE GLANCED OFF ONE WALL INTO A SMALL VEHICLE CAUSING MINOR DAMAGE, RAN INTO ANOTHER SMALL VEHICLE CAUSING MAJOR DAMAGE, CRASHING INTO A BRICK WALL OF A CHURCH, SPUN AROUND, AND LANDED ON THE PORCH OF A RESIDENTS HOME FOR FINAL REST, CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE RESIDENTS HOME. OUR 2001 FORD EXPEDITION IS TOTALED OUT. THE AIRBAGS NEVER DEPLOYED. THERE WERE NO MAJOR INJURIES TO INDIVIDUALS INVOLVED. *TR

THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL IN AUGUST OF 2007, AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHEN THE PARTS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR THE REPAIR. SHE IS UPSET BECAUSE NO ONE KNOWS THEIR AVAILABILITY. THERE HAD BEEN NO FAILURE TO DATE. THE VIN, ENGINE SIZE, NUMBER OF CYLINDERS, RECALL NUMBER, AND CURRENT MILEAGE WERE UNKNOWN.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM ACTIVATES CONTINUOUSLY. THE DEALER STATED THAT A NEW ELECTRICAL BOX, WHICH CONTROLS THE HORN AND ALL OTHER ELECTRIC INSTRUMENTS, NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUES. THE DEALER ADVISES HER TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIR; HOWEVER, THEY NEVER REPAIR IT CORRECTLY. THE CONTACT DOES NOT WANT TO CONTINUE PAYING THE DEALER FOR INCORRECT REPAIRS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 108,000.
NUMBER #4 SPARK PLUG ON MY 2001 EXPIDITION W/ THE 5.4 ENGINE BLEW OUT. *TR
AFTER RAIN OR HEAVY FOG WE EXPERIENCED MANY ELECTRICAL ISSUES ON OUR 01 EXPEDITION INCL. HORN NOT WORKING NORMAL,FRONT & REAR WIPERS NOT WORKING OR COMING ON BY THEMSELVES,DOOR LOCKS LOCKING/UNLOCKING WHILE DRIVING, INTERIOR & EXTERIOR LIGHTS NOT WORKING,ALARM SYSTEM GOING OFF WHILE SUV WAS BEING DRIVEN,FAN BLOWER ON AFTER SUV WAS TURNED OFF, RADIO WORKING INTERMITTENTLY, ETC. THE LATEST OCCURRED 1/16/08 AFTER HEAVY RAINS THE PRIOR NIGHT. SUV WOULDN'T START IN THE MORNING AND HAD TO BE JUMPED. IT WAS DRIVEN THAT DAY WITH ONLY ISSUE BEING INTERIOR LIGHTS COMING ON THEMSELVES. ON 1/17/08 SUV WOULDN'T TURN OVER AND AGAIN WAS JUMPED. THERE WAS CLICKING NOISE FROM ENGINE COMPARTMENT THAT SEEMED TO BE COMING FROM KELSEY HAYES BLACK BOX. WE IMMEDIATELY TOOK SUV TO DEALERSHIP AND ASKED FOR TECH TO WITNESS ISSUE. TECH CONFIRMED NOISE COMING FROM THE K-H ABS MODULE, SAID PROBLEM WAS PROBABLY DUE TO WINDSHIELD LEAK INTO FUSE BOX & GEM MODULE WHICH WAS SENDING CURRENT TO ABS MODULE AND ALSO CAUSING INTERIOR LIGHTS TO TURN ON/OFF BY THEMSELVES. ON 1/18/08 DEALERSHIP SAID TECH DID PRESSURE TEST ON WINDSHIELD AND IT LEAKED AND NEEDED TO BE RESEALED. FUSE BOX AND GEM MODULE WOULD ALSO NEED REPLACED. SINCE PROBLEMS WERE CAUSED BY WATER LEAK FORD EXT.WARRANTY WON'T COVER REPAIRS. I SPOKE TO SRV MGR,WHO SAID HE WOULD CALL ZONE MGR.AND GET BACK TO ME. I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER RELATIONS (CRC) TO DOCUMENT ISSUES. CALLED DEALERSHIP ON 1/21/08 AND SRV. MGR. SAID ZONE MGR. SAID NOTHING COULD BE DONE TO RESOLVE SITUATION AND WE WERE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPAIRS. DUE TO ONGOING ELECTRIC ISSUES WITH SUV WE FEAR OTHER SAFETY FEATURES MAY MALFUNCTION COMPROMISING OUR SAFETY. FORD ISSUED SSM 15773 ON 4/05/02 TO DEALERSHIPS ADDRESSING UNUSUAL ELECTRICAL ISSUES AFTER RAIN OR SNOW RESULTING FROM A WINDSHIELD WATER LEAK. THE SSM INCLUDED ACTIONS TO BE TAKEN IN THAT SITUATION. OUR VEHICLE WAS BACK TO DEALERSHIP MANY TIMES AFTER RELEASE OF SSM FOR ELECTRICAL ISSUES AND SSM WORK WAS NEVER DONE. *TR
WITHIN MONTHS OF PURCHASING THE VEHICLE IT BEGAN TO SPONTANEOUSLY GO INTO 4 WHEEL DRIVE. INITIALLY I THOUGHT I HAD HIT THE SWITCH WHICH IS NOWHERE NEAR THE STEERING WHEEL. I PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND THEN BACK INTO DRIVE AND IT SEEMED FINE. IT BEGAN HAPPENING MORE AND MORE FREQUENTLY. ON ONE OCCASION IN 2003 I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND IT LOCKED UP. IT WENT INTO 4 WHEEL DRIVE AND LUCKILY I WAS WEARING MY SEATBELT BECAUSE THE FORCE WAS COMPARABLE TO SLAMMING ON MY BRAKES. I DROVE OFF THE FREEWAY AND WAS ABLE TO GET IT OUT OF 4 WHEEL DRIVE BUT WAS TERRIFIED TO DRIVE ON THE FREEWAY. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP WHO TOLD ME THEY COULDN'T LOOK AT IT UNTIL THE FOLLOWING MORNING. RELUCTANTLY I DROVE IT HOME. I WAS REPEATEDLY TOLD NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH MY VEHICLE WHILE IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY. WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE THROUGH A PARKING LOT IT DECIDED TO GO INTO 4 WHEEL DRIVE AND COMPLETELY LOCKED UP. I COULD NOT DRIVE IN FORWARD OR REVERSE. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP WHO TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS PROBLEM WITH THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE THAT COULD BE FIXED BUT THAT MY WARRANTY DID NOT COVER IT. ABOUT A THOUSAND DOLLARS LATER I DROVE OFF WITH MY VEHICLE BELIEVING THAT IT WOULD WORK PROPERLY. WITHIN LESS THAN ONE YEAR OF THE REPAIR I WAS ON THE FREEWAY AGAIN AND MY 4 WHEEL DRIVE KICKED IN. ONCE AGAIN SAVED BY THE SEATBELT, I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP. AGAIN I WAS TOLD THAT THE REPAIRS WERE ONLY COVERED FOR 1 YEAR OR A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF MILES (NOT SURE ON THE MILES ?5000). THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS NOT AN UNKNOWN PROBLEM THAT FORD WAS HAVING. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE PROBLEMS BUT ALL THEY COULD DO WAS KEEP FIXING IT. THE DEALERSHIP EVEN HAD THE NERVE TO TELL ME THAT WHEN IT STARTS TO BIND UP TO PUT THE VEHICLE INTO REVERSE. VERY HELPFUL WHEN YOUR DOING 65 ON THE FREEWAY. TODAY WHILE ACTUALLY USING MY 4 WHEEL DRIVE THE TRANSMISSION CONTINUALLY SLIPPED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ALL OF THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE ASSEMBLIES FAILED. IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH, THE RESTRAINT SYSTEM MAY NOT PROVIDE ADEQUATE OCCUPANT PROTECTION AND INCREASE THE RISK OF PERSONAL INJURY. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT HER VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 01V227001 (SEAT BELTS:FRONT:BUCKLE ASSEMBLY); THEREFORE, THEY WOULD NOT ASSUME FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE REPAIR. I WAS COMING HOME FROM CHURCH IN HEAVY RAIN IN 2001 EXPEDITION WHEN THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS AND RADIO QUIT. I WAS FORCED TO PULL OVER DUE TO NOT BEING ABLE TO SEE ROAD AHEAD. I SHIFTED INTO PARK AND THE RADIO AND WIPERS CAME ON. BUT AS SOON AS I SHIFTED BACK INTO DRIVE THEY QUIT AGAIN. SO I WAITED OUT THE RAIN. WHEN RAIN CEASED I MADE IT HOME WITH NO WIPERS OR RADIO. WHEN I SWITCHED THE IGNITION TO OFF AND REMOVED THE KEY THE RADIO AND WIPERS STARTED TO WORK AGAIN. THE READING ON THE SPEED ODOMETER WAS LITTLE DASHES, AND THREE WARNING LIGHT WERE OWN. TURN KEY BACK ON AND TRIED TO CRANK SUV. IT WOULD ONLY TURN THE ENGINE OVER (NOT STARTING IT). I DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY TO KEEP FROM RUNNING BATTERY DOWN. IF THIS HAD HAPPEN IN HEAVY RAIN ON A CROWDED HIGHWAY THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN A MAJOR ACCIDENT AND PROBABLY DEATH. IT SEEM THAT THE 2001 EXPEDITION HAS A HISTORY OF WINDSHIELD LEAKS LETTING THE RAIN GET ON THE FUSE PANEL JUNCTION AND GEM MODULE. WHAT WILL IT TAKE TO GET FORD TO FIX THIS PROBLEM, DEATH AND PROPERTY DAMAGE? *TR

UNWANTED ELECTRICAL ACTIVITY. THE BLOWER MOTOR COMES ON (SOMETIMES) WHEN THE IGNITION IS TURNED OFF. ALSO HEARD A CLICKING SOUND UNDER THE HOOD, MAY BE THE ABS. WILL NOT START AS BATTERY IS LOW. *TR

I HAVE A 2001 FORD EXPEDITION AND 1 YEAR AGO THE HEATER WOULD STAY ON AFTER I WOULD REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION AND THE BATTERY WOULD BE DEAD EVERY MORNING. 4 MONTHS AGO I WAS DRIVING IN THE RAIN AND WHEN I PUT MY CAR INTO PARK THE RADIO WOULD TURN ON AND I WOULD PUT IT INTO DRIVE AND IT WOULD TURN OFF. TWO DAYS AGO I WAS AT WORK AND I HAD GONE TO MY CAR TO RETRIEVE SOMETHING AND I COULD HEAR ACROSS THE PARKING LOT THAT MY CAR WAS TRYING TO START WITHOUT MY KEY IN THE IGNITION I WAS FREAKING OUT, HOW CAN A CAR START WITHOUT A KEY. I OPENED MY CAR AND PUT MY KEY IN THE IGNITION, NOT KNOWING WHAT TO DO I TRIED TO START IT TO TURN IT OFF AND WHEN IT WAS OFF I CLOSED THE DOOR AND STARTED TO WALK BACK INTO WORK AND IT ALL THE SUDDEN WAS TRYING TO START ITSELF AGAIN. I WENT INTO WORK TO GET A MAN TO COME AND UNPLUG MY BATTERY. AFTER WORK I RECONNECTED THE BATTERY AND IT STARTED I PICKED UP MY CHILDREN AND ON THE WAY HOME MY CAR STARTED GRINDING MAKING WEIRD NOISES THEN THE RADIO WAS GOING ON AND OFF. I PULLED OVER AND GRABBED MY CHILDREN OUT OF THE CAR THINKING IT WAS GOING TO START AN ELECTRICAL FIRE. I HAD TO STAND IN THE RAIN AND WAIT FOR A RIDE TO PICK US UP AND TAKE US HOME. THIS ONLY SEEMS TO HAPPEN IN THE RAIN. I WAS SO SCARED FOR MY SELF AND MY CHILDREN. I WENT HOME AND CALLED A FRIEND WHO KNOWS A LOT ABOUT CARS AND HE SAID THAT THIS IS COMMON IN FORD EXPEDITIONS THE WINDSHIELD WINDOW LEAKS. HE SAYS I HAVE TO GET A NEW WINDSHIELD AND A GEM MODULE AND A FUSE BOX AND A JUNCTION BOX. HOW CAN THIS BE SUCH A PROBLEM AND FORD HAS NOT RECALLED THE LEAKY WINDSHIELDS. *JB MY HUSBAND IS VERY ILL AND WE DO NOT HAVE ANY MONEY TO FIX THIS. I NOW HAVE NO WAY TO GET HIM BACK AND FORTH TO THE HOSPITAL. WE ALL PAY SO MUCH MONEY FOR OUR CARS AND WE HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT POSSIBLE FIRES AND UNWANTED ELECRICAL ACTIVITY WHEN THE CAR IS UNATTENDED. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD EXPEDITION. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED FOR APPROXIMATELY 5 HOURS WHEN IT CAUGHT FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY. THE BUSHES AND CONCRETE WERE DAMAGED. THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED BY THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. TWO DAYS PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT, THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THERE WAS SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. 2001 FORD EXPEDITION HAD ITS 2ND SPARK PLUG BLOW OUT THIS WEEK. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT WOKE UP TO FIND HER VEHICLE COMPLETELY DESTROYED. THE VEHICLE HAD APPARENTLY CAUGHT FIRE WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT SHE SHOULD RECEIVE A RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL, BUT THEY FAILED TO PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE REGARDING THE FIRE. A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VIN, ENGINE SIZE, NUMBER OF CYLINDERS, AND POWERTRAIN WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 109,000.
WHILE RETURNING FROM A FISHING TRIP, MY 2001 FORD EXPEDITION WITH 28,000 MILES ON IT, STARTED NOT SHIFTING OUT OF SECOND GEAR. THE OVERDRIVE OFF LIGHT STARTED TO FLASH ON THE GEAR SHIFT,AND THE CHECK ENGINE SOON LIGHT CAME ON. I SHIFTED INTO 2ND AND DROVE THE REMAINING 50 MILES AT 45 MPH. I UNLOADED MY GEAR AND DROVE IT DOWN TO MY DEALER. THE NEXT DAY THEY CALLED ME AND SAID I NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION,COST$3630.00. COMPLAINED TO FORD AND WAS TOLD THERE IS NOTHING THEY COULD DO FOR ME. I CAN TELL BY YOUR LISTED COMPLAINTS I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE. *TR
SPARK PLUG EJECTION FROM ENGINE. STARTED THE VEHICLE AND THE #3 SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF HEAD WHICH BROKE THE IGNITION COIL PACK ABOVE IT. MECHANIC (NOT DEALER) INSTALLED AN AFTERMARKET KIT MADE FOR THE FORD MOTOR. 2001 EXPEDITION 5.4L TRITON 113,000 MILES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD BANG WHEN HE STARTED THE VEHICLE. HE DROVE TO THE REPAIR SHOP AND THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE SPARK PLUGS BLEW OUT OF THE ENGINE BLOCK AND DESTROYED THE COIL. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 95,000.
THE SPARK PLUG EXPLODED FROM THE CYLINDER HEAD DUE TO A MECHANICAL DEFECT IN MY CYLINDER HEAD, AND MY EXPEDITION IS THE ONLY VEHICLE I OWN WHICH LEGALLY FITS ALL OF MY CHILDREN IN THEIR BOOSTER SEATS. THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY WON'T FIX THE PROBLEM UNLESS I PAY THEM $750, WHICH I DON'T HAVE, AND DON'T BELIEVE I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY TO FIX THEIR DEFECT. *TR
I AM HAVING THE SAME WATER LEAK PROBLEMS THAT I'VE SEEN ON HERE BEFORE. WATER IS GETTING INTO MY FUSEBOX EVERY TIME IT RAINS. I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO REPAIR THIS SO IT IS AN ONGOING SAFETY HAZARD FOR ME. I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS HAS NOT ALREADY BEEN RECALLED AFTER VIEWING ALL THE COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET. *TR

THE CONTACT RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE SPEED WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 105,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,000.

I HAD OUR DOG WITH US SO WE COULD NOT GO INTO ANY AIR CONDITIONED BUILDINGS DUE TO HAVING A DOG. MY 8 AND 10 YEAR OLD BOYS ALONG WITH MY ELDERLY MOTHER WERE FORCED TO SIT OUTSIDE AND WAIT FOR HOURS UNTIL HELP ARRIVED. IT BLEW WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. MAY 2015 SAME THING HAPPENED BUT THIS TIME WE WERE HEADING TO A FAMILY REUNION CAMPING TRIP AND HAD TO CANCEL AS OUR VEHICLE WOULD NOT GET US THERE. IT BLEW WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. 141000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. OCT 2015, THE THIRD SPARK PLUG BLEW WHILE MY SON WAS DRIVING 25MPH TO SCHOOL. HE HAD TO MISS SCHOOL THAT DAY AS HE HAD NO WAY TO GET THERE. 187000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. THIS MUST BE A DEFECT THAT FORD CORP WILL NOT RECOGNIZE AS THEIR FAULT BUT IS COMMON THAT IT MUST BE! 197000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE.

WHILE DRIVING BACK FROM NEW HAMPSHIRE TO VIRGINIA, MY 2001 EXPEDITION POPPED A PLUG FROM ITS ENGINE. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED 200 MILES BECAUSE THE SMELL OF FUEL IT WAS LATE FRIDAY AND THERE WAS NOTHING I COULD DO UNTIL MONDAY. I CALLED THE CUSTOMER SERVICE LINE IN DEARBORN, MI. I WAS TOLD BY THE FEMALE OPERATOR (CHARLOTTE) TO BRING MY VEHICLE TO BOWDITCH FORD AND TO HAVE THEM RUN A DIAGNOSTICS TEST. MY VEHICLE WENT OFF TO THE SHOP VIA FLATBED AS TO NOT CAUSE ANY FURTHER DAMAGE. I LATER RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE SERVICE MANAGER TELLING ME THAT IT WOULD COST $92.50, I OK'ED IT BECAUSE OVER THE WEEKEND I DID SOME RESEARCH ON THE TRITON ENGINE AND FOUND THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM. IN THE MEANTIME I WAS STILL IN CONTACT WITH FORD AND HAD EVEN TALKED TO AN OPERATOR NAMED RALPH. I EXPLAINED TO HIM THAT I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THIS HAD HAPPENED TO NEARLY 800,000 VEHICLES AND SOME RESULTING IN DEATH. DEARBORN, MI SAID THEY WOULD KEEP IN TOUCH WITH THE DEALERSHIP AND WOULD CONTACT ME THURSDAY. THURSDAY MORNING CAME AND I WAS CONTACTED BY DEARBORN AGAIN. THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE DAMAGES MYSELF. I WAS ALSO TOLD BY DEARBORN TO ASK THE DEALERSHIP, "WHO RECEIVES CERTAIN ALLOCATED FUNDS EACH YEAR FOR REPAIRS JUST LIKE THIS". THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED ASSISTANCE. AFTER ALL WAS DONE I WAS CHARGED FOR AN ECSD DIAGNOSE (92.50); 2 SPARK PLUGS (6.81); 1 COIL ASSEMBLY IGNITION (103.69); FUEL INGESTION CLEANER (6.47) ANOTHER VEHICLE KEY ? (30.00); MISC DRIVABILITY CHARGE (92.50); PCM REPROGRAMMING THE COMPUTER? (92.50); CLEAN THE THROTTLE BODY (78.75); CLEAN THE INJECTORS? (65.00). THEY ALSO FIXED A SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION DEVICE OF WHICH WAS UNDER RECALL. AS A DISABLED VETERAN THAT WAS HALF MY CHECK FOR THE MONTH. THE DEALERSHIP HAD MY VEHICLE FOR 3 DAYS. 1ST DAY, CHECKED ENGINE AND FOUND THE NUMBER 1 AND 4 PLUGS WERE SCREWED UP AND THAT THE INJECTORS WERE BACKWARDS. *JB

AFTER FIXING THE WINDSHIELD, GEM MODULE, AND FUSE BOX, THE PROBLEMS PERSISTED. THESE COMPONENTS CONTROL VARIOUS ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS IN THE VEHICLE. THIS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO STOP RUNNING. ELECTRICAL DAMAGE HAD TO BE REPAIRED AND A NEW WINDSHIELD HAD TO BE INSTALLED. THIS CAUSED THE OWNER TO PAY OVER $2000 IN OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES. *NM
