THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE FIRE ORIGINATED FROM UNDER THE HOOD AREA BUT COULD NOT DETERMINE THE EXACT CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 5 MPH WHEN HE HEARD A NOISE COMING FROM THE VEHICLE.THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE SPARE TIRE HAD FALLEN AND PARTIALLY DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE, HANGING BY A CABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD EXPEDITION XLT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED A FIRE STARTED UNDER THE HOOD. THE POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENT WERE CONTACTED. DRIVING TO AMUSEMENT PARK 1 1/2 HOURS FROM MY HOUSE #2 SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF ENGINE. HAD TO STOP AND HAVE VEHICLE TOWED TO NEAREST FORD DEALER. SPENT 644.66 DOLLARS TO REPAIR, AND NOTIFIED FORD MOTOR COMPANY OF PROBLEM. THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE TO THIS ENGINE TYPE AND FORD KNOWS ABOUT IT AND DOES NOTHING TO FIX IT. *TR
AS I WAS MERGING ONTO THE FREEWAY, I HEARD A LOUD BANG FOLLOWED BY A MOTORCYCLE SOUND OUT OF MY ENGINE MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, UPON TAKING IT TO THE SHOP AND PAYING $94.50 JUST TO LOOK AT IT,I LEARNED THAT MY SPARK PLUG AND COIL BOX HAD EXPLODED OUT......THE REPAIR PLACE TOLD ME THIS IS A ON GOING PROBLEM WITH FORDS AND CHARGED ME $400 TO FIX IT... ENGINE BLEW OUT #3 SPARK PLUG. FORD DEALER SAID THAT THIS IS NORMAL! COULD CAUSE ENGINE FIRE BY IGNITING FUEL VAPORS FROM CYLINDER. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND SHUT OFF WHEN IT CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL AND MASTER CONTROL SENSORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AS PER THE INSTRUCTIONS OF NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V388000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). THE CONTACT SPOKE WITH THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT BE REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL BECAUSE THE CONTACT WAS SENT NOTICE OF THE RECALL AND NEVER RESPONDED IN ORDER TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE NEVER RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF THE RECALL. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 171,297.
SMALL FIRE EXTINGUISHED PRIOR TO FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVAL. FIRE OCCURRED ON A SENSOR ATTACHED TO THE BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR. FIRE APPEARS TO BE CONSISTENT WITH SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH AS PREVIOUSLY RECALLED. *TR NO DAMAGE OUTSIDE OF VEHICLE.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE CHANGING THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT REMAIN STATIONARY ON THE JACK DESPITE BEING STOPPED ON A FLAT SURFACE. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT THE FAILURE DUE TO THE SHAPE OF THE JACK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 99,908.
# 3 SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF HEAD. I WAS TOLD MY FORD DEALER ITS COMMON AND FORD WILL NOT ISSUE A RECALL. TRITON ENGINES ARE FAULTY AND FORD KNEW THEY SOLD A BAD ENGINE FOR YEARS, THE GOVERNMENT MUST STEP IN. I NEED A REFUND. *TR
SITTING IN A PARKING LOT SOUNDED LIKE SOMETHING HIT MY CAR . ENGINE STARTED RUNNING VERY BAD . FOR THE 2 TIME A SPARK PLUG HAD BLOWN OUT OF THE ENGINE. WAITING ON A TOW TRUCK AGAIN.
THE FORD EXPEDITION WAS PARKED AT WALMART AND JUST CAUGHT ON FIRE IT ALSO BURNT TWO OTHER VEHICLES BEFORE THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS ABLE TO PUT IT OUT,THE FORD WAS FULLY ENGULFED AND THE CAVALIER BESIDE IT WAS ALSO BURNING AND WAS COMPLETELY BURNT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AND THE HONDA IN FRONT OF IT WAS ALSO DAMAGED. *TR
I HAVE HAD SIX OCCURRENCES OF A SPARK PLUG BLOWING OUT OF THE CYLINDER HEAD. EACH TIME, IT BLEW THE COIL OFF ALSO. THE DANGEROUS POPPING AND VAPORS THAT BLOW FROM THE NOW OPEN HEAD ARE A SERIOUS IGNITION HAZARD IN THE ENGINE BAY. IT IS NOT ALWAYS THE SAME PLUG THAT HAS BLOWN OUT. THREE TIMES THIS HAS HAPPENED, THE THREADS THAT THE PLUG GOES INTO ARE STRIPPED. THROUGH RESEARCH, IT APPEARS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND ALTHOUGH I DID NOT ENCOUNTER A FIRE DUE TO THE VAPORS UNDER THE HOOD, IT HAS HAPPENED TO OTHERS BEFORE. THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT THE MANUFACTURER KNOWS ABOUT AND IS UNWILLING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT. EACH TIME THE REPAIR IS EXPENSIVE AND THE UNCERTAINTY OF IF/WHEN IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN IS UNACCEPTABLE. *TR
STARTED VEHICLE AND BEGAN TO DRIVE WHEN SPARK PLUG FLEW OUT OF ENGINE AGAIN. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED AND FORD WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THEY CLAIM THAT THERE IS NO PROBLEM WHEN HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS HAPPENED. VERY COSTLY, TIME CONSUMING, AND STRESSFUL. THIS SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN AND FORD SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. *TR
VEHICLE WAS PARKED. OVERNIGHT, VEHICLE ENGINE COMPARTMENT CAUGHT FIRE AND ENTIRE VEHICLE BECAME ENGULFED IN FLAMES. TOTAL LOSS OF VEHICLE. *TR
WE WERE REAR ENDED WHILE SITTING AT A REDLIGHT. THE IMPACT WAS HARD ENOUGH TO LAUNCH THE 6000 LB EXPEDITION 20-30 FEET INTO THE INTERSECTION. 2 OUT OF 5 SEAT BELTS OPENED UP AND THOSE 2 OCCUPANTS WENT FLYING AROUND IN THE CAR. THANK GOD IT WAS NOT A HEAD ON COLLISION. I NEVER RETESTED OR CHECKED THE SEATBELTS AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED AND SENT TO A SALVAGE YARD IN NC BY TRAVELERS INSURANCE. INJURIES WERE WHIP LASH, STRAINED NECKS AND CERVICAL COMPRESSION AND CONCUSSIONS. *TR
WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH I HEARD A LOUD POP AND THEN WHAT SOUNDED LIKE A BELT SMACKING AROUND THE ENGINE. I OPENED THE HOOD AND SAW THE BELT WAS OK. WENT TO DEALER AND HAD TO GET LOANER TO GET HOME. SPARK PLUG HAD POPPED OUT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V388000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED, THE HORN AND SPEED CONTROL WERE STILL INOPERABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,300 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 31,400. CONSUMER IS UNHAPPY WITH DEALER. HAS TURNED THE WHOLE MATTER OVER TO LEGAL COUNSEL. UPDATED 11/16/2011 *LN *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT WAS ACCELERATING FROM A STOP WHEN THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED AN ABNORMAL NOISE AND SMOKE WAS SEEN COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE CONTACT STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT A FIRE HAD STARTED IN THE ENGINE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE AND DRIVE THE VEHICLE HOME. THE CONTACT FOUND THAT A SPARK PLUG HAD BLOWN AND CAUSED THE ENGINE FIRE. THE SPARK PLUG WAS REPLACED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED FOUR TIMES AND EACH TIME, THE SPARK PLUG WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE VEHICLE. A COMPLAINT WAS FILED WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 145,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 149,000.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, HE NOTICED THAT THE FUEL TANK STRAPS WERE FRAYING AND COMING APART, BUT THE FAILURE WAS NOT DUE TO CORROSION. I PULLED MY FORD EXPEDITION 2002 INTO A GAS STATION, TURNED OFF THE ENGINE, AND GOT OUT TO PUMP GAS. I BEGAN TO NOTICE THAT EVERYONE ELSE BEGAN FRANTICALLY LEAVING AND TELLING ME TO RUN. I SAW SMOKE COMING FROM MY HOOD AND ASSUMED THAT IT WAS JUST RUNNING HOT BUT SOON REALIZED THAT THE ENGINE WAS OFF. WITHIN SECONDS I BEGAN TO SEE FLAMES AND RAN IN FEAR THAT THE ENTIRE GAS STATION WAS GOING TO EXPLODE. LUCKILY FIRE TRUCKS CAME WITHIN A MINUTE A PUT THE FLAMES OUT AND NO ONE WAS HARMED. *TT
WHILE DRIVING I HEARD A POP AND LEARNED THAT THE #3 SPARK PLUG POPPED OUT OF THE ENGINE AT 174K MILES. THIS WAS THE 2ND TIME IT HAS HAPPENED ON MY 02 EXPEDITION AS IT ALSO HAPPENED AT 158K MILES. *TR
FORD TRITON 4.6L ENGINE SPARK PLUG BLOW-OUT OCCURRED TURNING A CORNER AT 30. THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY STARTED SPUTTERING AND LOST POWER. I HAD TO IMMEDIATELY PULL OVER AND GET THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD. THE SPARK PLUG HAD BEEN COMPLETELY BLOWN OUT OF THE ENGINE BLOCK AND TAKEN SOME ADDITIONAL HEAD WITH IT.

WHILE ENTERING A HIGHWAY (I-75) HEARD A LOUD NOISE FROM THE ENGINE. AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A SHOP, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT ONE OF THE SPARK PLUGS HAD BLOWN OUT OF THE ENGINE. IN JANUARY 2012 THE SAME THING HAPPENED AT START UP AGAIN IT WAS DETERMINED THAT A SPARK PLUG HAD BLOWN OUT OF THE ENGINE. FEBRUARY 2012 (TODAY) APPARENTLY THE SAME HAS OCCURRED WHILE ENTERING A HIGHWAY (I-75), I HAVE NOT HAD A SHOP LOOK AT IT YET. I BELIEVE THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE FUEL VAPORS COULD LEAK OUT OF THE SPARK PLUG HOLE AND CAUSE A FIRE OR EXPLOSION. *TR

NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE NOR WAS THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 202,000. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 185,000.
WHILE DRIVING MY 2002 FORD EXPEDITION (5.4L) ON THE INTERSTATE, I HEARD A LOUD POP AND THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY LOST POWER AND DECELERATED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. THE NEARBY FORD DEALER DETERMINED THAT THE NO.7 SPARK PLUG HAD "BLOWN OUT". THE DEALER INDICATED THAT THEY "SEE THIS ALL THE TIME" WITH THIS ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS AT THE SAME DEALER A FEW WEEKS PRIOR, AND HAD THE NO.8 SPARK PLUG REPLACED (WHILE ADDRESSING AN IGNITION COIL PROBLEM).
ABOUT TWO WEEKS BEFORE MY CAR WOULDN'T GO INTO DRIVE I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERS. THEY FIXED THE PROBLEM IT WAS A BRAKE SWITCH AND SOLENOID. THAT NEEDED REPLACING $300.00 LATER ITS FIXED. DURING THE WEEKEND MY CRUISE CONTROL LIGHT KEPT FLASHING. MY MOTHER, DAUGHTER AND I WERE WAITING FOR MY SON WHO WAS AT TRACK PRACTICE ON MONDAY 4-25-2011. WE WERE WAITING IN THE CAR AND LISTENING TO THE RADIO. I STARTED MY CAR TO MAKE SURE IT WAS GOING TO START. AS I STARTED IT WAS FULL OF SMOKE SO I OPEN THE HOOD AND THERE WAS A LITTLE SPARK FIRE. I LOOK INTO MY CAR TO FIND WATER AND I RETURNED TO ATTEND TO THE PROBLEM AND IT WAS IN FULL FLAME. I CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT TO REPORT FIRE. THE PARKING LOT WAS FULL OF PARENTS AND CHILDREN ALSO WAITING FOR THERE CHILDREN. THERE'S SERIOUS FIRE DAMAGE UNDER THE HOOD WIRES AND SENSORS. I HAVE TAKEN PICTURES AS PROOF. OIL SPILLS FROM THE RESERVOIR. THANK GOD WE WERE THERE TO STOP IT FROM LOOSING THE VEHICLE AND OUR LIVES. I WANTED TO FIND OUT INFORMATION FOR MYSELF. WHAT I NEED TO DO? IS THIS FORDS FAULT FOR NOT INFORMING ME THAT THERE'S BEEN THOUSAND OF CASES OF MINE. I BOUGHT MY CAR LESS THAN A YEAR AGO. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF ANY RECALLS OR FAULTY WIRING LET ALONE CAR FIRES??? MY KIDS AND I DON'T KNOW IF IT'S DRIVABLE. I HAVEN'T DROVE IT SINCE. I AM GOING TO FORD DEALERSHIP TOMORROW 4-29-11. *TR
WE HAD PROBLEMS WITH RADIO POWER WINDOWS AND CAR GOING INTO GEAR AND WATER LEAKING FROM THE WINDSHIELD CHECKED FUSE IT WAS BAD WE ARE STILL HAVING WATER LEAKING INTO THE CAR (ALOT) AND ITS CAUSING US TO HAVE ELECTRIAL PROBLEMS AND TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS I HAVE BEEN ADVISED THAT FORD ISSUED A STATEMENT ABOUT THE FAULTY LEAKING WINDSHIELD AND IT CAUSING ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS BUT THEY HAVE YET TO ISSUE A RECALL I HAVE SAW MANY PEOPLE COMPLAINING OF THE SAME THINGS HAPPENING TO THERE 2002 EXPEDITION THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME IT RAINS OR SNOWS. *TR
MY 2002 FORD EXPEDITION HAVE EJECTED THE SPARK PLUG TWICE EACH TIME IT HAVE COST ME $ 1300.00 BECAUSE THE HEAD HAD TO BE REMOVED AND REFILED FOR THE SPARK PLUG TO FIT BACK. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACTS PLACE OR RESIDENCE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE FURTHER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DISCOVERED THAT THE SPARK PLUG HAD BLOWN OUT FROM THE CYLINDER HEAD. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,000.
MY 2002 FORD EXPEDITION HAS ALWAYS HAD TRANSMISSION SHIFTING PROBLEMS. OVER THE YEARS, IT WILL SOMETIMES NOT GO OUT OF 4X4 WITHOUT SOME GENTLE COAXING. JUST THE OTHER DAY, IT SHIFTED OUT OF GEAR ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE OVERDRIVE LIGHT STARTED FLASHING. I STARTED TO HEAR A SOUND LIKE I WAS DRAGGING SOMETHING. WHEN I STOPPED, I HAD TO DRIVE IT IN MANUAL 2 JUST TO GET IT HOME. AT HOME, IT WOULD NOT GO INTO REVERSE AND WAS ACTING LIKE THE FRONT WHEELS WERE LOCKED UP WHEN I PUT IT IN NEUTRAL. I HAVE HAD SHIFTING PROBLEMS FOR THE LIFE OF THIS VEHICLE (I HAVE HAD IT FOR 8 YEARS....) THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME IT HAS BEEN THIS DRASTIC. IT LOOKS LIKE I WILL HAVE TO HAVE A NEW TRANSMISSION..... *TR
DRIVERS SEATBELT UNLATCHES RANDOMLY. IT OCCURS AT LEAST ONCE A DAY. I HAVE DONE NOTHING AT THIS POINT. THE DEALER SAID IT WOULD COST 150 TO FIX ON MY OWN. THE 2001 MODEL HAS A RECALL ON THIS AND THEY ARE FIXING THOSE FOR FREE. *TR
1. WHEN IT RAINS MY 2002 FORD EXPEDITION HAS WATER COMING INSIDE OF IT ON THE DRIVER SIDE. CONSEQUENTLY CAUSING MY GEM AND FUSE BOX TO HAVE TO BE REPLACED. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND REPLACED THE GEM AND RESEALED MY WINDSHIELD. THE NEXT DAY AFTER RECEIVING MY VEHICLE BACK FROM THE DEALER IT RAINED AGAIN AND HAD TO TAKE IT BACK FOR THE SAME SYMPTOM. THEY DRIED OUT THE MODULE AND MADE SURE THE WINDSHIELD WAS SEALED GOOD BUT UNTIL THIS DAY RAIN STILL COMES IN. I ALSO REPLACED THE DOOR SEAL AND TOOK THE LUGGAGE RACK OFF AND PUT SEALANT UNDER IT AND IT STILL GETS WATER IN MY VEHICLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE'S DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELTS WOULD UNLATCH INDEPENDENTLY. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC OR DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 123,000.
I OWN A 2002 FORD EXPEDITION WITH A TRITON 5.4L V* ENGINE. WHILE DRIVING I HEARD A LOUD TICKING TYPE NOISE FROM THE ENGINE. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER. MY MECHANIC STATED THAT A SPARK PLUG HAD BEEN EJECTED FROM THE BLOCK. HE STATED THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE FORD TRITON ENGINES. I FEEL THAT FORD SHOULD MAKE THIS RIGHT WITH THE CONSUMERS THAT HAVE HAD TROUBLE WITH THIS. I HAVE YET TO FIND A MECHANIC THAT WILL DO THE REPAIRS FOR A REASONABLE AMOUNT. THE TRUCK HAS BEEN SITTING IN THE DRIVEWAY FOR 3 MONTHS, UN-DRIVEABLE. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET THE REPAIRS DONE AND FEAR DRIVING IT DUE TO THE RISK OF FIRE AND ENGINE FAILURE.

WELL WE WERE JUST DRIVING HOME WHEN THE SPARK PLUG OF OUR FORD EXPEDITION JUST SHOT OUT OF THE CYLINDER HEAD AND WE CANT REPLACE IT BECAUSE ITS TOO MUCH MONEY FOR US. *TR
MY CAR STARTED JUST FINE BUT IT WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF PARK AND NONE OF THE WINDOWS WORKED. I CHECKED THE FUSES AND ONE WAS BLOWN. I REPLACED THE FUSE AND MY CAR APPEARED TO BE WORKING NORMALLY. I GOT WITHIN A HALF A BLOCK FROM MY HOUSE AND SMOKE STARTED COMING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I PULLED INTO MY DRIVEWAY AND IMMEDIATELY SHUT MY CAR OFF. SMOKE WAS POURING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I OPENED THE HOOD AND THE CRUISE CONTROL DEPRESSION SWITCH WAS GLOWING RED HOT. WITHIN A FEW SECONDS IT BURST INTO FLAMES. *TR
I'M NOT SURE THIS IS GOING TO DO ANY GOOD, BECAUSE I AM NOT THE FIRST TO LODGE THIS COMPLAINT. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE SO FAR. THIS IS THE 5TH TIME THAT THIS PARTICULAR INCIDENT HAS HAPPENED TO ME. THE MOST RECENT WAS YESTERDAY 2/29/2012. I AM VERY GRATEFUL THAT I WAS DRIVING EACH TIME AND NOT MY WIFE OR KIDS. I HAVE A 2002 FORD EXPEDITION AND ON 5 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS OVER A TWO YEAR PERIOD, WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND AROUND THE NEIGHBORHOOD, THE SPARK PLUGS HAVE BLOWN OUT OF THE CYLINDER HEADS. IT HAS NOT ALWAYS BEEN THE SAME PLUG. ON 3 OF THE OCCASIONS THE COILS BROKE OFF. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY ME OR ANYONE ELSE AS CONSUMERS HAS TO PAY FOR THE MISTAKES OF FORD'S POOR DESIGN FLAWS. THERE IS NO REASON WHY THIS HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL ITEM. IT IS CLEARLY A SAFETY ISSUE. IF THEY CAN RECALL A RUNNING BOARD LIGHT, THEN WHY HAVE THEY NOT BEEN FORCED TO RECALL THIS ITEM? I HOPE THAT IT DOESN'T COME DOWN TO SOMEONE LOSING THEIR LIVES, BEFORE SOMETHING IS DONE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD EXPEDITION. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN HIS DRIVEWAY WHEN IT CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. A FIRE REPORT WAS AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THE SPARK PLUGS BLEW OUT AT THE CYLINDER HEAD CAUSING THE FUEL RAIL TO BEND AND RESULTING IN A FUEL LEAK THAT STARTED THE FIRE. THE ENGINE WAS SEVERELY DAMAGED. THE CONTACT'S INSURANCE COMPANY ADVISED THAT THE FIRE ORIGINATED FROM A PRE-EXISTING FAILURE IN THE VEHICLE AND WOULD NOT COVER HIS CLAIM. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE HE WAS ADVISED THEY WERE AWARE OF THE FAILURE YET WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 190,000.
2002 FORD EXPEDITION, ORIGINAL FACTORY SPARK PLUG WAS VIOLENTLY EJECTED FROM THE ENGINE DURING NORMAL OPERATION. SPARK PLUG SMASHED THROUGH FUEL INJECTOR AND DENTED THE HOOD. HAD SOMEONE BEEN SERVICING THE ENGINE THE INJURIES COULD HAVE BEEN SEVERE. FORD MOTOR COMPANY REFUSES TO CALL THIS A DEFECT AND AREA DEALERSHIPS WANT TO CHARGE $700 TO $3300 TO FIX THIS ISSUE. THERE HAVE BEEN THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS AND THIS MOTOR DESIGN PROBLEM SHOULD BE RECALLED AND FIXED BY FORD MOTOR COMPANY. *TR

TWO CHILDREN AND MYSELF IN THE VEHICLE. STRONG GASOLINE SMELL AND HORRIBLE SOUND, UNABLE TO DRIVE VEHICLE. *TR

I HAVE HAD TWO SPARK PLUGS BLOW OUT OF MY 2002 FORD EXPEDITION 5.4L V8. THE FIRST BLEW OUT AFTER PULLING OUT OF AN INTERSECTION FROM A DEAD STOP. THE SECOND WAS THE #2 PLUG. I WAS PULLING A TRAVEL TRAILER THROUGH MOUNTAINS ON A HIGHWAY. FIRST NOTICED WAS A REDUCTION IN POWER FOR ABOUT 60 MILES. THEN AFTER ROUNDING THE TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN, LETTING OFF THE GAS TO GO DOWN THE HILL, THE PLUG BLEW OUT. *TR

THE # 5 SPARK PLUG EJECTED FROM THE HEAD OF A 2002 FORD EXPEDITION 4.6 LITRE WHILE EXITING THE FREEWAY. THE REPAIR INVOLVED TEAR DOWN OF THE TOP OF THE MOTOR TO PROPERLY FIX AT A COST OF ABOUT $600.00 IN PARTS AND A WEEKEND OF MY TIME. REPAIRS INCLUDED REPAIRING THE PLUG HOLE BY REMOVING THE HEAD. THIS MEANS THAT THE RADIATOR, FAN, THROTTLE BODY, INTAKE, VALVE COVERS, EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND HEAD ALL BE REMOVED, RESULTING IN GASKET REPLACEMENT AS WELL. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THERE WOULD BE FORMS MAILED CONCERNING THE FAILURE WHICH HAD NOT BEEN RECEIVED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING INVESTIGATED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 148,592. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 148,592.
