WHILE DRIVING ON US 95 NORTH THE VEHICLE ALL OF THE SUDDEN STALLED. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE BEFORE WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 60 AND GREATER ON BUSY INTERSTATES. THE ENGINE JUST STOPS AND THE CAR MUST COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SIT FOR A FEW MINUTES AND THEN IT WILL START AGAIN AND RUN FINE FOR AT LEAST A WEEK OR TWO. RECENTLY THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING EVERY COUPLE OF MONTHS. THE FIRST INCIDENT WAS IN JAN OF 2010 ON A TRIP FROM MISSOURI TO VIRGINIA. NOW THAT WE LIVE IN VIRGINIA, NEAR DC THIS IS SOMETHING THAT WE FIND VERY DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY WITH FOUR CHILDREN IN THE CAR.
I FILED A COMPLAINT IN OCT (10355191) REQUESTING INFO ON VEHICLE SHUT DOWN. IT HAPPENED AGAIN THIS WEEK WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING TO WORK. *TR
THIS IS INCIDENT 3 OF 3 WITH RESPECT TO THIS VEHICLE. IN EACH CASE, THE CAR WAS TRAVELING AT A NORMAL RATE OF SPEED UNDER ORDINARY TRAFFIC CONDITIONS. WITHOUT WARNING, THE CAR EITHER LOST POWER AND SHUT OFF SUDDENLY OR LOST THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE AND SLOWED TO A STOP. IN EACH CASE DASHBOARD MESSAGE CENTER WARNING "CHECK ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL" (OR SOMETHING SIMILAR) APPEARED. IN EACH CASE THE DRIVER TURNED THE IGNITION SWITCH TO THE OFF POSITION, WAITED SEVERAL MINUTES, AND THEN STARTED THE CAR. THE WARNING MESSAGE NO LONGER APPEARED AND THE CAR RAN FINE WITHOUT FURTHER IMMEDIATE INCIDENT. IN THIS PARTICULAR CASE (INCIDENT #3), THE CAR WAS TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH ON A TWO-LANE (ONE LANE IN EACH DIRECTION) DC CITY STREET. THE CAR LOST POWER COMPLETELY, AND THE DRIVER WAS NOT ABLE TO MOVE THE CAR OUT OF THE LANE OF TRAFFIC, THEREBY BLOCKING THE HEAVY LINE OF TRAFFIC BEHIND HER. AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES, THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD EXPEDITION EDDIE BAUER EDITION(NA). WHILE DRIVING 10-20 MPH, THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE CONTACT COASTED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AFTER A FEW MINUTES, THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND FUNCTIONED PROPERLY. THE LIGHT ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL TURNED OFF AS WELL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE THROTTLE SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 94,000.
2005 FORD EXPEDITION. WHILE DRIVING ON THE HWY THE "CHECK ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL" LIGHT CAME ON AND SHUT DOWN MY CAR.. I HAD NO ACCELERATOR PEDAL CONTROL. THIS OCCURS ON AVERAGE ONCE A MONTH. WHEN THIS HAPPENS ,YOU HAVE NO POWER. YOU HAVE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CALL FOR HELP. *TR
2005 FORD EXPEDITION, TRANSMISSION PROBLEM .WHILE TRAVELING ON A HIGHWAY, THE O/D OFF LIGHT CAME ON. THEN LATER ON , THE CHECK ELECTRONIC THROTTLE POSITION . THE VEHICLE WENT INTO A LIMP HOME MODE. UNSAFE'WHEN I DID INVESTIGATE ,I NOTICED MY VEHICLE WAS LEAKING TRANSMISSION FLUID. THE SPOT WHERE IT WAS LEAKING FROM WAS NEAR THE RADIATOR, THE TRANSMISSION LINES TO AND FROM THE RADIATOR AND THE EXTERNAL TRANS COOLER AND TRANSMISSION WERE CORRODED. MY REPAIR SHOP TRIED TO OBTAIN AFTERMARKET ONLY TO FIND THEY HAD TO BE SPECIAL ORDERED FROM FORD. WHILE DOING THAT ,FORD INFORMED HIM, THEY HAD SOME 15 KITS COMING IN, HOWEVER THEY WERE ALL ACCOUNTED FOR AND THE NEXT SET WOULD BE IN ANOTHER MONTH. APPARENTLY THERE IS SOMETHING FAULTY. AND DEFINITELY UNSAFE.. *TR
PAINT ON TAILGATE IS PEELING AND BUBBLING. *TR
I WAS DRIVING 55MPH ON HIGHWAY, WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THERE WAS NO POWER TO GAS PEDAL. THE CHECK ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL LIGHT FLASHED, I PULLED OVER THREE LANES TO SIDE OF ROAD. I SAT THERE TRYING TO START VEHICLE CONTINUOUSLY, FINALLY AFTER 10 MINUTES IT STARTED. *TR
MY 2005 FORD EXPEDITION SUDDENLY STALLED AS I WAS SLOWING DOWN TO ENTER AN INTERSECTION. THE DASH DISPLAYED CHECK ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL OR ENGINE FAIL SAFE MODE AND THEN I LOST ALL POWER. I QUICKLY STARTED THE TRUCK BACK UP AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE BACK HOME, BUT HAD ACCELERATION ISSUES ALONG THE WAY AND THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON. FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT DETERMINED IT WAS THE THROTTLE POSITION SENOR. NO SIGNS PRIOR TO THIS EVENT THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR. APPARENTLY THIS TP SENSOR MALFUNCTION CAUSED ME TO HAVE MY THROTTLE BODY AND FUEL INJECTORS SERVICED TOO. MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE TP SENSOR ON THE INTERNET. THIS ISSUE SEEMS TO BE A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU CONSIDER MOST OF US PURCHASE AN EXPEDITION FOR HAULING AROUND OUR CHILDREN. I HAD MY TWO YEAR OLD IN THE CAR WITH ME WHEN MY TRUCK LOST ALL POWER IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. *TR
OUR 2005 FORD EXPEDITION HAS SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING TWICE NOW. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED WE WERE DRIVING BACK FROM MISSOURI TO VIRGINIA AFTER THE HOLIDAYS IN JANUARY OF THIS YEAR. WE WERE ON THE INTERSTATE DRIVING ABOUT 70 MPH WHEN THE CAR JUST STOPPED AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WE CALLED FORD AND THEY SAID TO LET IT SIT FOR 30 MINUTES AND THEN TRY TO START THE CAR AGAIN. WE DID AND IT WORKED. THE TECHNICIAN EXPLAINED THAT IT MAY HAVE BEEN THE COLD WEATHER. JUST YESTERDAY 12 SEPT 2010 MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK WHEN THE CAR SHUT OFF ON ITS OWN AGAIN AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. SHE WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND THE CAR STARTED AGAIN. THE COLD HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH IT YESTERDAY. BOTH TIMES WE WERE FORCED TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. LIVING IN THE DC AREA AND USING INTERSTATE 95 ON A SUNDAY AFTERNOON IS ALWAYS A CHALLENGE. HAVING YOUR VEHICLE JUST STOP RUNNING IS INSANE. I AM UNABLE TO FIND ANYTHING ABOUT A RECALL, BUT IN A SEARCH OF THE WEB I FOUND NUMEROUS OWNERS HAVING A SIMILAR ISSUE. WHAT IS FORD DOING ABOUT THIS? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD EXPEDITION. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO DRIVE ROUGH. THERE WAS ALSO A LARGE QUANTITY OF SMOKE COMING FROM THE TAIL PIPE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FUEL INJECTOR FAILED. THE FUEL INJECTOR WAS REPLACED YET THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE DEALER ADVISED THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND RECOMMENDED REPLACING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,800.
1.2005 FORD EXPEDITION AUGUST 8,2010: AROUND 12:45PM I STARTED MY CAR UP TO RUN TO MCDONALD'S TWO MINUTES AWAY FROM MY WORK. AS I PULLED OUT OF MCDONALD'S THE CAR STARTED TO SLOW DOWN AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. I THOUGHT IT WAS MY GAS SO I PULLED INTO EXXON DOWN THE STREET TO FILL UP ON GAS. I PUT $15 OF GAS INTO THE TANK. WHEN I STARTED TO CAR UP IT IMMEDIATELY STARTED SHAKING VIGOROUSLY AND A STRONG SMELL OF GAS AND CLOUDY FUMES CAME FROM MY EXHAUST PIPE. I HAD TO GO BACK TO WORK SO I DROVE THE TWO MILES WHILE TO CAR STRONGLY SHOOK AND THE EXHAUST PIPE WAS PRODUCING A CLOUD OF SMOKE THAT SMELLED HEAVILY OF GAS. I GOT TO WORK AND CALLED MY HUSBAND. I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND CHECKED MY OIL. I ATTEMPTED TO TURN ON MY CAR AGAIN AND WAS NOT ABLE TO GET MY CAR TO START AGAIN THAT DAY. AT 7PM I ATTEMPTED TO TURN MY CAR ON AGAIN AND IT JUST MADE A LOUD SCREECHY SOUND AND WOULD NOT TURN ON. 2.BECAUSE CAR WOULD NOT START WE CALLED HARRY'S TOWING TO BE TOWED TO A AUTO SHOP NEAREST TO OUR HOME. OUR CAR NEVER BEFORE HAS HAD ANY PROBLEMS AT ALL. 3. WE ASKED THE MECHANIC TO LOOK AT THE CAR AND IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM. WHEN HE CALLED US BACK HE SAID THE FUEL INJECTOR WAS THE PROBLEM AND HE AT THAT TIME HAD REPLACED IT ALREADY AND ADVISED US TO TAKE THE CAR TO FORD DUE TO THE FACT THE HE SAID THE MOTOR WAS DEAD AS WELL. WE THEN HAD THE CAR TOWED TO FORD IN FRANKLIN KENTUCKY. THEY IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM AS THE FUEL INJECTOR AND THAT THE MOTOR FAILURE WAS DUE TO FUEL INJECTOR PROBLEMS. THE HEADQUARTERS OF FORD SAID WE ARE NOW NOT COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY DUE TO THE FACT THAT WE TOOK THE CAR TO SOMEONE BESIDES FORD. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD EXPEDITION. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STOPPED ACCELERATING WITH NO WARNING. THE CONTACT HAD TO TURN THE IGNITION OFF AND ON TO ALLEVIATE THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED THREE TIMES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 56,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD EXPEDITION. WHILE TRAVELING 45 MPH HE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE CHECK ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL LIGHT HAD APPEARED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL , SECONDS LATER THE VEHICLE HAD SUDDENLY SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED. THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WAS 65000.
DRIVING MY 2005 FORD EXPEDITION LIMITED IN THE MORNING. AFTER ABOUT 2 MILES THE CAR POWERED TO A CRAWL AND GAVE ENGINE FAIL SAFE MODE ALERT. PULLED TO SIDE. POWERED DOWN CAR AND THE RESTARTED WITHOUT INCIDENT. A WEEK LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS IS APPARENTLY A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE CONTROL UNIT. THIS DESCRIPTION IS ALL OVER THE INTERNET AND IS A KNOWN SAFETY PROBLEM AS PEOPLE ARE REPORTING THAT IT HAS HAPPENED TO THEM ON THE FREEWAY. CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND EVEN THOUGH THE PROBLEM IS WELL KNOWN, FORD COMPANY IS TAKING NO RESPONSIBILITY. ALL NHTSA HAS TO DO IS GOOGLE "ENGINE FAIL SAFE MODE" AND SEE THE NUMBER OF PROBLEMS THAT COME UP WITH SAME ISSUE. THIS IS DEFINITELY A WELL KNOWN SAFETY PROBLEM BUT YET THERE IS NO RECALL. DEALER SAYS THROTTLE CONTROL UNIT HAS TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $514.61 + TAX. THIS PROBLEM MAY ALSO HAVE TAKEN OUT MY AIR CONDITIONING. IT WENT OUT AT THE SAME TIME AS THE SECOND FAILURE, BUT DEALER (VISTA FORD IN OXNARD) IS SAYING THERE IS NO RELATIONSHIP. OTHERS HAVE REPORTED A/C SHUTTING DOWN WHEN ENGINE FAIL SAFE FAILURE OCCURRED. *TR
2005 FORD EXPEDITION STOPPED RUNNING WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART. IT APPEARS TO BE A FUEL PUMP PROBLEM. ONLY 40,000 MILES ON THIS VEHICLE. NONE OF THE DASH BOARD LIGHT INDICATORS CAME ON. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD EXPEDITION. HE STATED THAT THE PAINT ON THE TRUNK AND HOOD OF THE VEHICLE WERE COVERED WITH RUST AND BEGAN PEELING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO TOOK PICTURES OF THE VEHICLE AND MAILED THEM TO THE FORD MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER STATED RESPONDED TO THE PHOTOS STATING THAT THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE BECAUSE HE WAS THE SECOND OWNER. THERE WERE NO RELATED RECALLS. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,000.
PAINT IS BUBBLING AND PEELING OFF HOOD AND TAILGATE OF 2005 FORD EXPEDITION EDDIE BAUER EDITION. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD EXPEDITION. WHILE DRIVING 50-55 MPH THE VEHICLE STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND THE CHECK ELECTRONIC THROTTLE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. SHE WAITED A FEW SECONDS AND TURNED THE VEHICLE BACK ON AND IT BEGAN TO FUNCTION NORMALLY. THE FAILURE OCCURRED TWICE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE OR DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,500 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 31,750.
ORIGINAL FACTORY SPARK PLUG BACKED OUT FROM CYLINDER HEAD. CHECKED REMAINING 7 SPARK PLUGS. FOUR OF SEVEN LOOSE. MECHANIC RECOMMENDED USING HELI COIL KIT ON ALL SPARK PLUG THREADS. MECHANIC MENTIONED THAT THIS WAS A COMMON OCCURRENCE ON FORD 5.4 LITER ENGINES. IF THIS IS TRUE, IT APPEARS AS THOUGH A RECALL SHOULD BE REQUIRED FOR REPAIR OF CYLINDER HEADS. *TR
MY 2005 FORD EXPEDITION WAS CUTTING OFF AND TICKING EVERYDAY, BUT NO LIGHTS WERE COMING ON TO TELL ME WHAT IT WAS, I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO PEP BOYS SHOP AND THEY DECLINE TO FIX IT DO TO SPARK PLUGS BREAKING IN THE ENGINE, SO I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED IT. IT TOOK THEM A WHOLE DAY TO FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT, THEY SAID I NEEDED A TUNE UP WHICH WAS $279, AND HE TOLD ME THAT ALL OF SPARK PLUGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THAT THEY SOMETIMES BREAK OFF IN THE ENGINE AND IF THAT WHERE TO HAPPEN IT WOULD BE A ADDITIONAL $90 PER PLUG, THE COIL NEEDED TO REPLACED $95, AND THE ON OF THE CYLINDER NEED TO BE REPLACED UNKNOWN AMOUNT/FORGOT, THEN THEY CALL ME BACK AND TOLD ME THAT ALL OF THE SPARK PLUGS HAD BROKE. THE FORD DEALERSHIP REPAIRED MY TRUCK CAUSE THERE WHERE OTHER PROBLEMS AS WELL SO TOTAL $1000 IN REPAIRS FOR A PROBLEM THAT I NEVER NEW THIS TRUCK WAS HAVING. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY FORD 2005 EXPEDITION THE CAR STOPS RESPONDING TO THE THROTTLE AND LOSSES ALL POWER. THE DASHBOARD WARNING SYSTEM DISPLAYS "CHECK ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL". AFTER SHUTTING THE ENGINE OFF AND WAITING SEVERAL MINUTES THE CAR CAN BE RESTARTED AND DRIVEN. WE HAVE INQUIRED ABOUT THIS ISSUE WITH NO SATISFACTION. *TR
2005 FORD EXPEDITION "ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL" LIGHT WILL COME ON AND THE ENGINE WILL STALL. THIS WILL HAPPEN AT ANY TIME, ANY SPEED AND WITHOUT WARNING. UNFORTUNATELY SOMEONE WILL HAVE TO BE SEVERELY INJURED BEFORE FORD TAKES A LOOK AT THIS. *TR
MY 2005 FORD EXPEDITION WITH JUST 62,000 MILES ON IT HAS CHIPPING AND BUBBLING PAINT ON THE REAR LIFT GATE AND THE HOOD. TALKED TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT THEIR WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE ALUMINUM PRIOR TO PAINTING THESE TWO PARTS AT THE FACTORY. FORD IS NOT STANDING BEHIND THIS DEFECT. *TR
MY 2005 FORD EXPEDITION WILL SUDDENLY TURN OFF WHILE IN MOTION WITH NO WARNING. THERE IS NO PATTERN TO DETERMINE WHEN IT WILL TURN OFF. IN THE 6 MONTHS I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE, IT HAS TURNED OFF CLOSE TO A DOZEN TIMES, AT SPEEDS RANGING FROM 20 MILES AN HOUR TO FULL FREEWAY SPEED. THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL LIGHT TURNS ON. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO A REPUTABLE MECHANIC WHO WAS UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AS THE CODE REPORTED THAT THE ERROR OCCURRED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF - WHICH IS TECHNICALLY IMPOSSIBLE. RESEARCH HAS SHOWN THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE, AND IT IS OBVIOUSLY DANGEROUS FOR A VEHICLE TO TURN OFF WHILE IT IS IN MOTION. I WOULD HOPE THIS VEHICLE IS RECALLED BEFORE INFORMATION LEAKS THAT PEOPLE HAVE DIED AS A RESULT. *TR
I HAVE OWNED TWO FORD EXPEDITIONS, BOTH OF WHICH WERE WRECKED WHEN IT RAINED. MY CONCERN IS THAT THE VEHICLE BECOMES VERY LOOSE IN THE REAR WHEN IT RAINS AND THAT IS THE PROBLEM THAT HAS LEAD TO ME HAVING MY ACCIDENTS. *TR

VEHICLE ONLY HAS 60,000 MILES. INFORMED BY DEALERSHIP REASONS FOR DEFECT UNKNOW. HOWEVER, WE WERE STILL RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL REPAIR COSTS. 2005 FORD EXPEDITION WITH 90,000 MILES ON IT, DRIVEN IN NORMAL VEHICLE STALLS WHILE DRIVING UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS, AND THE "CHECK ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL" MESSAGE COMES ON INFOR SCREEN, THEN ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. ALMOST RAN INTO DITCH ALONG SIDE OF ROAD LAST TIME WHEN ENGINE STALLED, AS POWER STEERING AND BRAKES SHUT DOWN AS WELL. *TR
2005 EXPEDITION RANDOMLY STALLS AT VARIOUS SPEEDS USUALLY AROUND 45 - 50 MILES PER HOUR. YOU HAVE TO TRY TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, STOP AND GIVE THE CAR A COUPLE OF MINUTES AND CRANK IT AGAIN. TODAY MY CAR STALLED AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIFT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE "CHECK ELECTRONIC THROTTLE" LIGHT CAME ON. THE CAR IS AT THE DEALER NOW, WITH A $600+ REPAIR BILL. MY WIFE WAS TAKING OUR THREE CHILDREN TO SCHOOL THIS MORNING AND AS SHE WAS MERGING ONTO THE HIGHWAY SHE WAS ALERTED TO AN UNFAMILIAR CODE AND ALARM IN THE VEHICLE. BEFORE SHE COULD LOOK AT THE DASHBOARD THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE IN THE ACCELERATION LANE, THE BRAKING AND STEERING BECAME MINIMAL AND SHE WAS LEFT WITH A LITTLE MORE THAN A DISABLED VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY. WITH HEAVY RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC RAPIDLY APPROACHING HER AND UNSURE WHETHER THEY COULD STOP SHE HAD TO FORCE THE VEHICLE TO THE EDGE OF THE GUARDRAIL. THE VEHICLE WHEN TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED APPEARED NORMAL. I THEN CHECKED PRIOR COMPLAINTS ON THIS WEB SITE AND OTHERS AND AM APPALLED OF THE LACK OF ACTION BY FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND OTHERS FOR NOT LOOKING INTO THIS ISSUE. THE LIVES OF THREE SMALL CHILDREN AND WHOEVER ELSE MAY HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN THIS POTENTIAL COLLISION DESERVE TO HAVE FORD ACKNOWLEDGE THIS PROBLEM. I PURCHASED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY FROM FORD AND WHEN I TALKED ON THE PHONE WITH THEM THIS MORNING, THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD JUST "KEEP AN EYE ON IT". WHEN THEY LOOKED ON THE COMPUTER TO INFORM ME MY WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED 200 MILES AGO THEY CHANGED THEIR MIND AND TOLD ME TO BRING IT IN. PLEASE, PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS OBVIOUS DEFECT. THIS IS INCIDENT #2 OF 3 WITH RESPECT TO THIS VEHICLE. IN EACH CASE, THE CAR WAS TRAVELING AT A NORMAL RATE OF SPEED UNDER ORDINARY TRAFFIC CONDITIONS. WITHOUT WARNING, THE CAR EITHER LOST POWER AND SHUT OFF SUDDENLY OR LOST THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE AND SLOWED TO A STOP. IN EACH CASE DASHBOARD MESSAGE CENTER WARNING "CHECK ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL" (OR SOMETHING SIMILAR) APPEARED. IN EACH CASE THE DRIVER TURNED THE IGNITION SWITCH TO THE OFF POSITION, WAITED SEVERAL MINUTES, AND THEN STARTED THE CAR. THE WARNING MESSAGE NO LONGER APPEARED AND THE CAR RAN FINE WITHOUT FURTHER IMMEDIATE INCIDENT. IN THIS PARTICULAR CASE (INCIDENT #2), THE CAR WAS TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH ON A FOUR-LANE (IN EACH DIRECTION) INTERSTATE HIGHWAY (THE INNER LOOP OF THE CAPITAL BELTWAY IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD). THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE CAR FROM THE SECOND LANE FROM THE RIGHT TO THE SHOULDER BEFORE LOSING ALL POWER TO ACCELERATE, ALTHOUGH AT RAPIDLY DECELERATING SPEED, THIS MANEUVER WAS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. WHEN THE CAR WAS NEXT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE, THE DEALER DID NOT REPORT AN ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC CODE THAT WOULD ACCOUNT FOR THIS INCIDENT. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 EXPEDITION AND IT JUST CUT OFF! I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 40 MILES PER HOUR AND IT JUST CUT OFF WHILE I WAS PRESSING ON THE GAS. I HAD TO COAST OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I ALMOST GOT IN AN ACCIDENT! A WARNING ALERT SAID CHECK ELECTRONIC THROTTLE AND I COULD NOT MOVE IT AND JUST STOP AND DIED. I WAITED ABOUT 5 MINUTES AND TRIED TO START MY CAR AGAIN AND IT STARTED. THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND TOOK IT TO AUTOZONE AND THE DIAGNOSTIC SAYS THAT THE THROTTLE IS STUCK. THIS HAPPENED TO ME LAST YEAR AROUND ABOUT THE SAME TIME AND JUST WENT AWAY. THE YEAR BEFORE I BROUGHT THE CAR FROM THE DEALERSHIP AND IT DID THIS TO ME 3 DAYS AFTER I BOUGHT IT. I TOOK IT BACK TO GET IT REPAIRED AND THEY FIXED IT NO CHARGE. NOW THEY ARE TRYING TO CHARGE ME. IT COST 700 DOLLARS EVERYTIME THIS PART GOES OUT. WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO KEEP GETTING THIS REPAIRED? THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE (ELECTRIC THROTTLE). BOTH TIMES I WAS ON A HILL AND THANK GOODNESS I DID NOT LOSE BRAKING ABILITY AS DESCRIBED BY OTHERS. I AM ALMOST 6 MONTHS PREGNANT AND TRANSPORT 4 YOUNG CHILDREN TO AND FROM SCHOOL. ENGINE HAS ON MORE THAN 3 OCCASIONS WHILE DRIVING 60-70 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY BECOME UN RESPONSIVE WHILE DRIVING. ENGINE WOULD RUN BUT NO ACCELERATION WHEN THE GAS PEDAL WAS PUSHED; IT WAS LIKE THE CAR WAS RUNNING IN NEUTRAL. INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON SHOWING "ENGINE FAILURE". PULLED OFF THE ROAD AND RESTARTED CAR AND THEN IT RAN FINE AGAIN. FORD SVC DEPT. COULD NOT REPLICATE THE SITUATION WHEN I TOOK IT TO THEM, SO IT WAS NEVER REPAIRED. (CLEARLY THERE IS A FAULTY PROBLEM) CURRENTLY CAR IS IN THE SHOP REPLACING ALL 8 SPARK PLUGS, COILS AND BOOTS. MECHANIC INDICATED A LOT OF CARBON BUILDUP IN THROTTLE BODY. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 45000.

UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS, MY 2005 FORD EXPEDITION SIMPLY LOST ALL POWER AND THE WORDS "ENGINE FAIL SAFE MODE" APPEARED. 2. THIS OCCURRED TWICE (OCT. 6, 2009 AND NOV. 16, 2009). I WAS ABLE TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BOTH TIMES BUT DURING THE SECOND INCIDENT, I LOST THE POWER STEERING AS WELL AND STRUGGLED TO PULL OVER. THE CONSEQUENCES OF THIS "ENGINE FAIL SAFE MODE" IS THAT THE CAR STOPS WORKING. YOU BECOME A SITTING DUCK WHEREVER THE CAR HAS DECIDED TO GO INTO THIS MODE. YOU ARE UNABLE TO ACCELERATE -NOT FUN WHEN THIS HAPPENED ON THE FREEWAY THE FIRST TIME-AND IF YOU DO NOT LOSE YOUR POWER STEERING, YOU CAN PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. 3. THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED FOR APPROXIMATELY $700. NOWHERE IN THE CAR MANUAL DOES IT LET YOU KNOW THAT THIS CODE COULD LEAD TO THIS REPAIR. I HAD A HARD TIME FIGURING OUT WHAT THE CODE MEANT USING THE OWNER MANUAL. THE MOST FRUSTRATING PART OF THIS FAILURE IS THAT IF THIS HAD OCCURRED WHEN I WAS TRAVELING AT 65 MPH ON THE FREEWAY, I PROBABLY WOULD NOT BE HERE TO ENTER THIS COMPLAINT. I WOULD LIKE TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING TO SOMEONE ELSE. *TR
