2001 FORD EXPLORER SPORT TRAC - 4X2 MANUAL 18 OCT 2002 - VEHICLE STOPPED SHIFTING INTO GEAR CLUTCH FLUID RESERVOIR EMPTY - DEALER REPLACED CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER ASSEMBLY. 02 NOV 2002 -VEHICLE STOPPED SHIFTING INTO GEAR CLUTCH FLUID RESERVOIR EMPTY - DEALER REPLACED CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY 11 JUN 2003-VEHICLE STOPPED SHIFTING INTO GEAR CLUTCH FLUID RESERVOIR EMPTY - DEALER REPLACED CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER ASSEMBLY I BELIEVE IT ALSO OCCURRED IN 2004 BUT NO RECORD OF WORK PERFORMED. 26 DEC 2005-VEHICLE STOPPED SHIFTING INTO GEAR CLUTCH FLUID RESERVOIR EMPTY - DEALER REPLACED CLUTCH MASTER & SLAVE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY 29 DEC 2005 - VEHICLE STOPPED SHIFTING INTO GEAR REWORK FROM LAST REPAIR - AIR IN CLUTCH FLUID LINE. ALTHOUGH NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED, THE FAILURES PRESENT A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION, PARTICULARLY WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE; MERGING INTO TRAFFIC, ENTERING INTERSTATE, ETC FORD IS AWARE OF THIS DANGEROUS SITUATION AND HAS NOT ADDRESSED IT ADEQUATELY. THERE ARE CURRENTLY FOUR TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS (TSBS) ISSUED BY FORD RELATED TO THIS COMPLAINT. *JB

SEVERE TREAD SEPARATION (DOT NUMBER: 8XCU TIRESIZE: P255/70R16)
WHILE ATTEMPTING TO CROSS A FOUR LANE HIGHWAY THE ENGINE STALLED, THE VEHICLE SURGES AND HESITATES INTERMITTENTLY, DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE AND REPAIR THE PROBLEM. NLM
RESTRAINT CONTROL MODULE (RCM) BECAME INOPERABLE ON 2001 FORD EXPLORER SPORTRAC.*MR *NM
THE CONSUMER HAS HAD SEVERAL RECALLS FOR HIS VEHICLE, AS A RESULT OF THE RECALL THE CONSUMER HAD TO RENT AT VEHICLE AT HIS OWN EXPENSE ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. NLM
CONSUMER STATES WHILE SHE WAS PUTTING ITEM IN HER VEHICLE, HER TWO YEAR OLD SON CRAWLED UP TO THE FRONT OF VEHICLE AND TURNED THE KEY TO THE SECOND TURN OF THE GEAR SHIFTER AND PULLED THE TRUCK INTO GEAR, THE SECOND TURN ON THE GEAR SHIFTER IS THE ONLY WAY THAT THE VEHICLE CAN BE PUT INTO GEAR WITHOUT APPLYING THE BRAKE, THE VEHICLE HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE, CONSUMER CONTACTED MANUFACTURER AND WAS TOLD THAT ALL OF THE VEHICLES ARE DESIGNED THE SAME WAY. *JB
WHILE TURNING AT LOW SPEEDS THE FRONT FIRESTONE TIRES SET UP A VIBRATION THAT PASSES TO THE STEERING WHEEL, THE STEERING RODS AND JOINTS SEEM TO MOVE AND MAKE NOISE, THE DEALER STATED THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE TREAD, HOWEVER THE CONSUMER BELIEVES THE TIRES ARE TOO HEAVY FOR THE STEERING SET OR THE STEERING LINKAGE IS TOO LIGHT FOR THE TIRES. SINCE THE DAY OF PURCHASE CONSUMER HAS BEEN INQUIRING ABOUT A SQUEAKING OR CREAKING NOISE IN THE DRIVERS SEAT. VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN AT LEAST 4 TIMES TO BE FIXED BUT THE CREAKING CONTINUES. *JG
CONSUMER HAS TAKEN VEHICLE IN MANY TIMES INQUIRING ABOUT THE SQUEAKING IN THE LEFT FRONT SEAT. THE BASE OF THE SEAT FRAME WAS CRACKED. THE SEAT HAS BEEN REPLACED, THE SQUEAKING STILL EXISTS. *JG
CONSUMER STATES THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE REPAIR SHOP 8 TIMES CONCERING THE BRAKE SYSTEM, THE PADS DO NOT WEAR DOWN AND THERE IS NO SQUEAKING SOUND TO ALERT CONSUMER THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT STOP WHEN ATTEMPTING TO BRAKE.*JB
CCONSUMER STATE THAT THE SEAT SQUEAKED AND IT WAS TAKEN IN AND THEY FOUND 3 CRACKS IN THE BASE AND THEY REPLACED IT AND THE CONSUMER STATE THAT THE SEAT STILL SQUEAK THE DEALER TOLD THE CONSUMER THAT IT IS OK NOTHING WRONG. *MJ
DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT TRACK HAD A FAILURE THAT CAUSED IT TO SQUEAK AND NOT TO WORK EFFICIENTLY. DEALERSHIP REPLACED THIS PART 5 TIMES, BUT PROBLEM STILL OCCURS.*AK
SOME HOW WATER GOT IN THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL AND DAMAGED THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *PH *PH
CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT A BRAKE PROBLEM. BRAKES, ROTORS, AND CALIPERS HAD TO BE REPLACED ON 3 SEPARATE OCCASIONS. CURRENTLY, ABS BRAKE SYSTEM LIGHT KEPT COMING ON. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 20 MPH AND TURNING RIGHT OR LEFT VEHICLE LIFTED ON ITS OWN. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *AK
WHILE APPLYING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL VEHICLE SHOOK. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE ,AND DROVE IT TO DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT AXLE SHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
