I BOUGHT A 2004 FORD EXPLORER SPORT TRAC IN BRUNSWICK, GA IN LATE SEPT 2006. AFTER LEAVING THE DEALER, WE NOTICED A BUMPING/VIBRATION. TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER 3 TIMES, EACH TIME IT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. WE WERE TOLD THAT IT NEEDED AN ALIGNMENT (DID NOT WORK). THEN, WE WERE TOLD BY THE MECHANIC THAT THE TIRES (GOODYEAR WRANGLERS) WERE OUT OF ROUND, BUT YET THEY DID A FORCE BALANCING INSTEAD OF REPLACING THE TIRES; WHICH DID NOT FIX IT AND NOW IN ADDITION TO THE BUMPING, IT IS NOW PULLING HARD TO THE RIGHT. I AM TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THIS IS A "TRUCK" AND THERE WILL BE A LITTLE VIBRATION AND BUMPING. I DO NOT BELIEVE THIS SINCE I HAVE DRIVEN TRUCKS ALL OF MY LIFE WITHOUT THIS PROBLEM. I TRADED A 1998 EXPLORER THAT DID NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE ASKED THE DEALER TO REPLACE THE TIRES AS A TEST TO SEE IF IT IS THE TIRES. THEY DON'T WANT TO DO THIS BECAUSE OF COST ISSUES. I ASKED THEM TO LET ME DRIVE ONE OF THE NEW 2007 SPORT TRACS TO SEE IF THEY HAVE THIS PROBLEM. THE REPLY WAS THAT THEY HAVE A DIFFERENT SUSPENSION. THE VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY. I HAVE TOLD THE DEALER THAT IF THIS PROBLEM CAN NOT BE FIXED THAN I DON'T WANT THE VEHICLE. WHAT AM I TO DO? *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED CONSTANTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER WHERE THE SPEED CONTROL SWITCH, TURN SIGNAL SWITCH, AND OXYGEN SENSOR WERE ALL REPLACED.
I OWN A 2004 FORD SPORT TRAC XLT WITH GOODYEAR WRANGLER RT/S TIRES (M+S P255/70R16). I HAVE THE TIRES ROTATED EVERY 3 TO 5 THOUSAND MILES. PROBLEM IS THE TIRES KEEP CUPPING OUT, WHICH CREATES A LESS SAFE DRIVING ENVIRONMENT AND CAUSES EXCESSIVE ROAD NOISE. I'VE BEEN TOLD BY THE LOCAL TIRE STORE THAT THIS IS A SYSTEMIC PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE AND BUYING NEW TIRES WILL NOT CORRECT IT. HOW SHOULD I PROCEED TO HAVE THIS ISSUE CORRECTED? THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED BRAND NEW IN OCTOBER 2004. SIX MONTHS ALONG THE CAR SHUT DOWN AS I WAS DRIVING AND FAILED TO TURN OVER. CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE ORIGINALLY PURCHASED AND AFTER FOUR DAYS CAR WAS RETURNED TO ME. HAD NO PROBLEMS FOR THE NEXT 6 MONTHS. IN FEBRUARY 2006 ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK ONE EVENING, THE CAR STALLED ONCE AGAIN . SAME SITUATION . I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO ANOTHER FORD DEALER. THREE DAYS LATER GOT IT BACK, THEY CLAIMED THE FIRST TIME THE CAR WAS NOT FIXED CORRECTLY. YESTERDAY JUNE 26TH I WAS ABOUT TO GET ON THE HIGHWAY WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR AND AS I AM DRIVING ON THE RAMP TO THE BROOKLYN QUEENS EXPRESSWAY IT DIES ONCE AGAIN. THIS IS THE THIRD INCIDENT WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I FEEL SO UNSAFE IN THIS CAR. IMAGINE IF IT HAD SHUT DOWN ON ME ON THE HIGHWAY AS I WAS DRIVING. I WOULD HATE TO THINK WHAT WOULD'VE HAPPENED. THE SIDE AIR BAGS (BOTH) DEPLOYED FOR NO APPARENT REASON WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH. MY VEHICLE IS A 2004 FORD EXPLORER SPORT TRAC. (4 DOOR PICKUP). THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO A FORD DEALER FOR REPAIR AND INITIALLY THEY SAID IT WOULD BE A WARRANTY REPAIR BUT CALLED BACK A WEEK LATER INDICATING THAT FORD WOULD NOT WARRANT THE REPAIRS AND THE COST TO ME WOULD BE $2300 TO $2500. I AM NOW CONCERNED THAT THIS COULD REOCCUR IN THE FUTURE AND PERHAPS WITH MY GRAND CHILDREN OR DOG IN THE VEHICLE WITH A HAND OR HEAD OUT OF THE WINDOW. THE EXPLOSIVE FORCE OF THE DEPLOYMENT HAS ME CONCERNED ABOUT EVER DRIVING THE VEHICLE AGAIN NOT TO MENTION THE UNWARRANTED EXPENSE AND THE DESTRUCTIVE NATURE OF THE DEPLOYMENT. IT DESTROYED THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE INCLUDING MY DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT (NOW NON OP AND BEING REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE) HEADLINER, A PILLAR MOLDINGS, C PILLAR MOLDING ETC. I HAVE TO WONDER IF THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE OR UNIQUE TO MINE. I'M CONTEMPLATING A TRADE IN FOR A TOYOTA. ANY INSIGHT YOU CAN OFFER WOULD BE APPRECIATED. *NM
APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR AGO, WHILE MY VEHICLE WAS PARKED, AND RUNNING OUTSIDE OF MY HOME, I SHUT THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR, AND THE SIDE IMPACT AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR WAS SHUT WITH NO MORE FORCE THAN NORMAL, HOWEVER I WAS LATER TOLD BY THE FORD SERVICE DEPT. THAT EVEN A SLAM SHOULD NOT HAVE CAUSED THIS DEPLOYMENT. I OPTED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE, AND DID NOT GO TO FORD, HOWEVER NOW REALIZED I SHOULD HAVE, AS THE VEHICLE WAS THEN IN IT'S LAST MILES OF MY WARRANTY. I AM NOW CONCERNED THAT THE MULTIPLE PROBLEMS I HAVE HAD WITH MY DRIVER SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE SEATBELTS MAY BE ASSOCIATED OR HAVE CAUSED THE DEFAULT OF MY SIDE AIRBAGS, AS THE DRIVER SEAT BELT WAS REPLACED APPROXIMATELY 3 TIMES JUST PRIOR TO THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYING. I AM VERY DISSATISFIED BY THE RESPONSE FORD PROVIDED, HOWEVER EVEN IF I HAD PLACED A COMPLAINT DURING THE WARRANTY PERIOD, ACCORDING TO OTHER FILED COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE SAME ISSUE WHICH I READ, IT MAY STILL HAVE NOT BEEN COVERED BY FORD. I AM JUST NOW CONTEMPLATING EITHER TRADING THE VEHICLE IN, OR REPLACING THE AIRBAG EQUIPMENT REQUIRED TO MEET SAFETY REGULATIONS, AS UP TO THIS POINT THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN OPERATIONAL WITHOUT REPLACEMENT, AFTER ALL, WITH MY MALFUNCTION AND OTHERS NOTED ON THE SITE, AND BY THE FORD SERVICE DEPT, I FEEL THEY ARE MORE A LIABILITY THAN A PROTECTIVE ELEMENT. IT IS A DISTURBING DAY, WHEN FORD DOES NOT STAND BEHIND IT'S SAFETY COMMITMENT, ESPECIALLY WHEN THERE WAS NO CAUSE , PRIOR ACCIDENT, OR IMPACT TO HAVE ACCOUNTED FOR THIS SUDDEN DEPLOYMENT. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 50MPH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BROKE. THE VEHICLE WAS COASTED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD; WITHOUT INCIDENT IT WAS THEN TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP. UPON INSPECTION THE ACCELERATOR CABLE HAD SNAPPED. THERE WAS NO CAUSE AS TO WHY IT HAD FAILED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 20MPH AND BELOW, THE ENGINE INTERMITTENTLY STALLED. THIS OCCURRED PRIMARILY WHEN THE VEHICLE ATTEMPTED TO SLOW DOWN OR STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP NUMEROUS TIMES FOR INSPECTION. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, THEREFORE NO REPAIRS WERE MADE.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED AFTER EXITING THE VEHICLE AND OPENING THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR THE SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAGS UNEXPECTEDLY DEPLOYED. THE VEHICLE ENGINE WAS NOT RUNNING AT THE TIME OF DEPLOYMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE LOCAL DEALER, BUT NO DETERMINATION WAS MADE CONCERNING THE DEPLOYMENT. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED.
VEHICLE HAS A CONSTANT "THUMPING" NOISE IN FRONT END AT ANY SPEED AS WELL AS VIBRATION. WHILE DRIVING AT IN TOWN SPEEDS AND CONTROLLED HIGHWAY SPEEDS,THE VIBRATION TAPERS OFF BUT NOISE INCREASES. DURING ACCELERATION VIBRATION IS SEVERE. VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN DEALERSHIP SHOP AT LEAST 3 TIMES FOR THIS, EACH TIME I'M TOLD A TIRE ROTATION WILL FIX THE PROBLEMS...EACH TIME IT DOES NOT. VEHICLE IS SCHEDULED TO BE BROUGHT BACK TO SHOP 12/22/05 AGAIN FOR SAME PROBLEM. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP AND THE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WAS LOST RESULTING IN AN ACCIDENT AND INJURIES. THE RECIRCULATION BALL AND THE RACK AND PINION FAILED CAUSING THE STEERING TO LOCK UP. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE ALERTED OF THE INCIDENT. THE CONSUMER CAME AROUND A CORNER AND SUDDENLY LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT 5 MONTHS PRIOR, AND HE BELIEVED THE VEHICLE MAY HAVE NOT BEEN PROPERLY FIXED WHICH MAY HAVE CAUSED THE ACCIDENT. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE AIR DID NOT DEPLOY IN THIS ACCIDENT. THE POLICE CONCLUDED THAT THE CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING TOO FAST FOR CONDITIONS AND UPON ROUNDING THE CORNER, HE LOST CONTROL AND STRUCK THE BANK ON THE SIDE OF THE ROADWAY CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO OVERTURN. THE CONSUMER HAD PREVIOUS REPAIRS ON THE VEHICLE SUCH AS AN INOPERABLE TURN SIGNAL LIGHT AND THE REAR VENTS DID NOT BLOW OUT AIR. UPDATED 10/3/06 *JB UPDATED 10/25/2006 - *NM
THE TRUCK'S TRANSMISSION SLIPS GOING FROM FIRST TO SECOND GEAR. THIS WAS A NOTICEABLE PROBLEM AROUND 35K MILES, AND HAS CONTINUED TO HAPPEN INFREQUENTLY. FORD SENT A LETTER, JANUARY 2005, STATING THAT THE TRANSMISSION FLUID USED AT THE ASSEMBLY PLANT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE, THAT OVER TIME, IT COULD CAUSE DELAYED/HARSH ENGAGEMENTS. WHEN I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR THE FLUID REPLACEMENT (42K MILES APPROX), I MENTIONED THIS PROBLEM TO THE SERVICE EMPLOYEE. HE SAID THAT THIS WOULD PROBABLY FIX THE PROBLEM, AND THAT I SHOULD DRIVE IT FOR AWHILE TO SEE IF THE PROBLEM CORRECTS ITSELF. AT 49K MILES, I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE SERVICE CENTER DUE TO THE SAME PROBLEM. THE FIRST PHONE CALL I RECEIVED, THE SERVICE CENTER EMPLOYEE SAID THAT HE DROVE THE CAR ON TWO OCCASIONS AND THE PROBLEM DID NOT OCCUR. THEN, I EXPLAINED THE SYMPTOMS DIRECTLY TO THE MECHANIC. THE NEXT DAY, THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID THAT THE VALVE BODY ON THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $1050. THEN, TWO DAYS LATER, AFTER REMOVING THE CASING TO REPLACE THE VALVE BODY, THEY SAID THAT THEY FOUND DEPOSITS OF METAL IN THE VALVE BODY. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THIS WOULD REQUIRE FURTHER DISASSEMBLY TO DETERMINE PARTS AND SERVICE REQUIRED. THE PRELIMINARY COST ESTIMATE WILL BE AN ADDITIONAL $400 PLUS PARTS. I AM AMAZED THAT A NEW VEHICLE WOULD HAVE A SERIOUS TRANSMISSION PROBLEM LIKE THIS, AND FORD IS ACCEPTING NO RESPONSIBILITY. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THIS IS A PROBLEM FOR ANY OTHER CONSUMERS, AND IF THERE IS ANYTHING I CAN DO TO RESOLVE THIS. *NM
DT: THE CONTACT STATES WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. THIS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SPIN, JUMP A DITCH, AND THEN HIT A POWER POLE. UPON IMPACT, THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES INCLUDING A BROKEN KNEE CAP, HIP, AND PELVIS. THE POLICE RESPONDED AND A REPORT WAS TAKEN. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT A FORD DEALERSHIP. THE VEHICLE HAS FRONT END DAMAGE AND A BENT FRAME. THE VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH A LCD MODULE, BUT THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT TELL HER WHY THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *AK
DT: THE CALLER SAID THAT WHILE SLOWING DOWN AND WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES THEY WENT TO THE FLOOR, AND VEHICLE ROLLED THROUGH A STOP LIGHT. THIS HAPPENED ONCE AND WITHOUT WARNING. IT RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT, AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A BODY SHOP AFTER THE INSURANCE COMPANY APPROVED IT. DEALER AND MANUFACTURER HAVE NOT BEEN CONTACTED YET. A POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN. THE CALLER WAS INJURED. *AK
BRAKES, SHOCKS,REAR AXLE, CRUSE CONTROL,ALIGNMENT
DT: THE CONSUMER OWNS A 2004 FORD EXPLORER SPORT TRAC. CONSUMER SMELLED WIRES BURNING AND THE CRUISE CONTROL HAS NOT BEEN WORKING. *AK
I AM HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE REAR SUSPENSION ON MY '04 FORD EXPLORER SPORT TRAC. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO TWO DIFFERENT DEALERS IN OKLAHOMA CITY COMPLAINING OF AN UNCONTROLLABLE BOUNCING WHEN HITTING CERTAIN BUMPS ON THE ROAD AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND ALSO SPEEDS AS LOW AS 35 MPH. THIS BOUNCING HAS OCCURRED AT LEAST A DOZEN TIMES AND IS GETTTING WORSE. WHEN THIS OCCURS, IT CAUSES THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE TO JUMP TO THE SIDE ABOUT 6 INCHES, WHICH HAS NEARLY CAUSED ME TO WRECK TWICE THIS MONTH. BOTH SERVICE DEPARTMENTS I'VE VISITED HAVE DESCRIBED THIS AS "NORMAL" FOR THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE ORDERED PARTS AT MY OWN EXPENSE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM, BECAUSE I FEAR FOR THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY. I AM TOLD BY FIRESTONE AND SEVERAL INTERNET SOURCES, THAT MY PROBLEM IS RELATED TO WEAK SHOCKS, WHICH ARE SPECIFIED BY FORD FOR THIS VEHICLE.
IN FEB 05 TOOK CAR TO SHOP TO REPORT THAT IT REVS UP AT TIMES , WHEN FOOT NOT ON GAS PEDDLE.THEY SAID THEY REPLACED CLUTCH SOLENOID. IT SEEMED TO STOP, BUT TOOK IT BACK IN MAY AND WAS TOLD IT DID NOT SHOW ANY CODES WHEN THEY HOOKED IT TO COMPUTER AND TO MAKE SURE MY FOOT WAS NOT TOUCHING GAS PEDDLE WHEN I WAS STOPPING. THE EXPLORER CONTINUES TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM OF REVING UP WHEN MY FOOT IS NOT ON THE GAS PEDDLE. I FEEL I CAN'T TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I GOT IT. AS THEY ACK LIKE I AM STUPID AND DON'T KNOW WHAT I AM SPEAKING OF. I AM SCARED EVERY TIME I DRIVE IT.
VEHICLE WAS MAKING A WHINNING NOISE FROM FRONT END AT 60 MPH. I CHECKED TIRES IN FRONT AND NOTICED EXCESSIVE WEAR ON THE INSIDE OF BOTH TIRES, THE MILEAGE WAS 25650.I HAD THE ALIGNMENT CHECKED AT A LOCAL TIRE AND LUBE AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY ALIGNMENT PROBLEMS. SUGGESTED ROTATING THE TIRES,THESE WERE THE TIRES THAT CAME WITH THE VEHICLE, TIRES WERE ROTATED.HOWEVER, AT ABOUT 31000 MILES THE NOISE WAS BACK AND THE TIRE WEAR WAS BACK AGAIN, EXCESSIVE WEAR. I BOUGHT NEW TIRES AT THIS TIME, THEY HAVE BEEN ROTATED A EVERY OIL CHANGE AND THE PROBLEM PERSIST. NO ONE CAN FIND A REASON FOR THIS OCCURRENCE, WE DON'T HAVE A LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP. THE SHOP I TAKE THE VEHICLE TOO CANNOT FIND ALIGNMENT PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. I THINK FORD KNOWS THEY HAVE THIS ISSUE AND IS WILLING TO IGNORE THE PROBLEM. THEY WILL NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT ME OR MY FAMILY BUYING ANY MORE FORD PRODUCTS. THIS IS THE FIRST AND LAST FORD PRODUCT I WILL EVER OWN.
2004 FORD EXPLORER SPORT TRAC RAN INTO GUARDRAIL TWICE ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER. *MR WHILE DRIVING 70 KM A CROSS WIND BLEW THE REAR OF THE TRUCK CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO HIT A GUARDRAIL. ANOTHER TIME THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING 55 KM WITH THE 4WD ON WHEN THE CONSUMER LOST CONTROL AN HIT A GUARDRAIL ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. *NM WHEN THE PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL GRABBED THE SLUSH ABOUT 1 INCH THICK, THE CONSUMER RELEASED OFF OF THE ACCELERATOR, SLIGHTLY CORRECTED THE STEERING TO BRING THE VEHICLE BACK BUT THE VEHICLE KEPT GOING TO THE RIGHT, HIT THREE POSTS AND THEN CAME BACK. *SC *JB
I OWN A 2004 FORD EXPLORER SPORT TRAC. THE REAR HARD COVER THAT COVERS THE BED OF THE TRUCK DOES NOT SEAL TIGHTLY. DURING HEAVY OR STEADY RAIN, WATER WILL TRICKLE INTO THE BED OF THE TRUCK. DAMPENING ANYTHING STORED IN THAT AREA. I HAVE CONTACTED FORD CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS TO LODGE A COMPLAINT. FORD CLAIMS THE COVER WAS NEVER ADVERTISED AS BEING WEATHER SEALED. HAS ANYONE ELSE ENCOUNTERED THIS PROBLEM? IS THERE A CURE FOR IT ? I HAVE TRIED ADJUSTING THE COVER. THIS ONLY HELPED SLIGHTLY. *TR
WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH FRONT OF VEHICLE SUDDENLY DIPPED. THIS CAUSED VEHICLE TO SKID AND CRASH INTO A DITCH. VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. THE CAUSE OF THIS WAS UNDETERMINED.*AK
I HAVE A 2004 FORD EXPLORER SPORT TRAC WITH CRUISE CONTROL. I HAVE COMPLAINED SEVERAL TIMES REGARDING THE FACT THAT IT DOES NOT DISENGAGE IMMEDIATELY. IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION IT TAKES A FULL SECOND OR MORE FOR IT TO DISENGAGE AFTER THE BREAKS ARE APPLIED. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THIS IS NORMAL, THAT MY VEHICLE HAS ELECTRONIC CRUISE CONTROL THAT IS CONTROLLED BY A CABLE DRIVEN BY AN ELECTRIC MOTOR AND NOT A VACUUM CONTROL LIKE MOST CARS. IF THIS IS TRUE IT IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION SINCE I HAVE HAD TO VEER OFF THE ROAD WHEN TRAVELING AT HIGH SPEED ON A HIGHWAY AND SOMEONE PULLED INTO MY LANE ABRUPTLY WHERE IF THE CRUISE DISENGAGED WHEN I HIT THE BRAKES THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN PLENTY OF TIME TO AVOID A COLLISION OR A CLOSE CALL. HOWEVER, AFTER HITTING THE BRAKES I WAS FIGHTING THE CONTINUAL ACCELERATION, OR SLOW DECELERATION OF THE ENGINE. I PURCHASED A 2004 FORD EXPLORER SPORT TRACKER 11 MONTHES AGO. THE FIRST INCIDENT WAS THE SHOCKS TOWERS. SO, I THOUGHT. WHEN I BROUGHT IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY SAID IT WASN'T THE SHOCK TOWERS BUT THE SWAY BAR. THIS OCCURRED AROUND SEPTEMBER 2004.. THAN I BROUGHT IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING. I WAS TOLD THE TRANSMISSION WAS BROUGHT INTO THE SHOP. I ONLY HAVE 23,000 MILES ON THE TRUCK. WHEN I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK IT HAD 23 MILES ON IT WHEN IT BROUGHT IT. I HAVE PUT ALOT OF HIGHWAY MILES ON IT. BUT THE TRANSMISSION SHOULD NOT HAVE NEED TO BE REBUILT.*AK

OCTOBER 28, 2004, MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT, CHAIN REACTION 3 VEHICLE, I WAS AT FULL STOP WITH FOOT ON BRAKE. VEHICLE BEHIND ME STOPPED, NEXT VEHICLE DID NOT STOP, PUSHED VEHICLE BEHIND ME INTO AND UNDER THE DRIVER SIDE REAR OF MY VEHICLE. BUMPER DAMAGE, TRUCK BED TWISTED SEVERAL INCHES, ETC. MY SEAT BELT DID NOT HOLD/CATCH OR STOP MY FORWARD MOVEMENT. I WAS THROWN INTO THE STEERING WHEEL AND THEN SNAPPED BACK, INJURING MY HEAD, NECK, MID AND LOW BACK, I HAD NUMBNESS AND TINGLING BILATERAL LOWER EXTREMITIES, AND BILATERAL UPPER EXTREMITIES. I ALSO EXPERIENCED SEVERE MUSCLE SPASMS NECK AND MID BACK. I HIT THE STEERING WHEEL HARD. THE AIR BAG DID NOT ENGAGE. PASSENGER SEAT BELT ENGAGED AND PROTECTED MY PASSENGER. I WAS TAKEN TO AN EMERGENCY HOSPITAL, C-SPINE/BACKBOARD, NECK AND BACK SPASMS, LOTS OF PAIN, TINGLING BILATERAL ARMS AND LEGS, ETC. NOW UNABLE TO WORK, UNKNOWN TIME DUE TO NECK AND BACK INJURY. I AM AN ER NURSE. IF MY SEAT BELT HAD HELD ME, I WOULD PROBABLY BE AT WORK RIGHT NOW AND NOT WRITING THIS COMPLAINT. YOUR QUESTION OF NUMBER OF FAILURES: THE BELT CATCHES ABOUT 1 IN 30 OR MORE ATTEMPT TO GET IT TO HOLD/CATCH. I AM AWAITING A SCHEDULED MRI OF MY SPINE, AND WILL BE FOLLOWING UP WITH A NEUROLOGIST. THE SEAT BELT HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT YET AND REMAINS FAULTY. *AK
AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN DRIVEN AND THEN PARKED DURING PRECIPITATION AND THE VEHICLE IS THEN STARTED UP AND DRIVEN FOR A FEW MINUTES, THE WINDSHIELD BECOMES COMPLETELY OBSCURED WITH FOG, EVEN WHEN THE WINDSHIELD DEFOG SYSTEM IS SELECTED TO HIGH BLOW. AFTER A MINUTE OR TWO OF OPERATION THE WINDSHIELD IS CLEARED BY THE DEFOG SYSTEM. NEWBERG FORD SAYS ALL EXPLORER SPORT TRACS DO THIS & THEY CAN'T FIX IT. *NM
CONSUMER WENT TO DEALERSHIP TO PURCHASE A VEHICLE APPROXIMATELY FOUR MONTHS AGO. WHEN CONSUMER WAS DRIVING OUT OF THE LOT VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. HE WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS DUE TO THE BATTERY.*AK
VEHICLE FRONT SUSPENSION ASSEMBLY WAS, ACCORDING TO FORD DEALER, DESIGNED SO POORLY THAT EXCESSIVE AND UNSAFE TIRE WEAR PATTERNS WERE TO BEE EXPECTED. SEVERAL OTHER CUSTOMERS WITH SAME COMPLAINTS WERE IN DEALER'S WAITING ROOM THE SAME DAY. I HAVE EXHAUSTED ALL AVENUES TO WORK WITH FORD, UP TO FORD DETROIT CUSTOMER SERVICE.*AK
GRINDING FEEL FROM THE REAR END RESULTED IN A REPLACED AND UPDATED COMPLETE REAR END FROM FORD. STILL HAVE VERY LOUD WHINING NOISE WHEN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION IS IN FIRST GEAR. DEALER SAYS THIS IS NORMAL AND I HAVE TO GET USE TO IT. ALSO HAVE NOTICABLE THUMPING FROM TRANSMISSION AND DRIVE SHAFT AREA WHEN BETWEEN 30 AND 50 MPH. DEALER HAS VERIFIED NOISE AND IS CONSIDERING A NEW DRIVE SHAFT. CAR IS NEW AND HAS LESS THAN 3000 MILES.
WE HAD JUST LEFT A GAS STATION AND WERE ON OUR WAY TO DINNER WHEN OUR SIDE-CURTAIN AIRBAGS DEPLOYED FOR NO REASON. WE DID NOT HIT ANY POTHOLES OR LARGE BUMPS, AND THERE WAS NO COLLISION TO CAUSE THE DEPLOYMENT. MY HUSBAND, THE DRIVER, MANAGED NOT TO SWERVE AND HIT ANYONE OR ANYTHING BEFORE PULLING OFF THE ROAD INTO A PARKING LOT. WE EXPERIENCED HEADACHES, NECK MUSCLE SORENESS AND TINNITUS IMMEDIATELY AFTER AND FOR THE FOLLOWING DAY. FORD ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE CALLED A TOW TRUCK FOR US, AND TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FROM WHERE WE PURCHASED IT. WE ARE WAITING TO HEAR THE CAUSE OF THIS INADVERTENT DEPLOYMENT.*AK
WHEN VEHICLE WAS IDLING IN THE PARKED POSITION VEHICLE SURGED BACKWARDS. THIS CAUSED CONSUMER TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND HIT A TREE.THE CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION. *AK
THE CONSUMER WAS TAKING OFF FROM A STOP WHEN HE NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T GO HIGHER THAN 28 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *AK *SC *JB

WHEN DRIVING AT ANY SPEED VEHICLE VIBRATED CONSUMER CONTACTED WI DEALERSHIP ABOUT THIS ISSUE. *AK
VIBRATION IN DRIVE TRAIN STARTS AT 45 AND CONTINUES THROUGH 60 MPH. DEALER HAS CHECKED ALL 4 WHEELS FOR BALANCE, REPLACED REAR DRIVESHAFT, REPLACED TRANSFER CASE, AND NOW WANTS TO REPLACE REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY. FRONT CRANKSHAFT SEAL HAS NOW STARTED TO LEAK ENGINE OIL.
