WHEN DRIVING AT 30 MPH LEFT REAR WHEELS SHEARED OFF, CAUSING LOSS OF BRAKES AND STEERING CONTROL. ALSO, WHEN DRIVING BETWEEN 15-20 MPH AND UPON DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL TO MAKE A GRAUDAL STOP, RIGHT REAR WHEELS SHEARED OFF, CAUSING LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL AND LOSS OF BRAKES. TIRE HAS AN UNUSUAL GASH MARK ON SIDEWALL OF TIRE NO POSSIBILITY OF WEAR IN THAT LOCATION. NO BLOWOUT AS OF YET. ONLY ONE OF FOUR TIRES CURRENTLY AFFECTED. OTHER THREE TIRES APPEAR TO BE DEVELOPING SAME TYPE OF WEAR ON SIDEWALLS. AWARE OF NUMEROUS SIMILAR COMPLAINTS AS OF LATE IN THE NEWS. THE SPARE TIRE LIFT ATTACHMENT CABLE SNAPPED WHILE DRIVING CAUSING THE SPARE TIRE TO FALL OFF THE CAR. NLM
LEAKY READIATOR CAUSED WATER TO GET INTO THE TRANSMISSION WHICH RESULTED IN THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPING IN SECOND GEAR. NLM
ALL TIRES HAVE VERY VISIBLE CRACKS ALONG THE CIRCUMFERENCE OF EACH TIRES. THE CRACKS APPEAR TO BE GETTING WIDER - NOW IT IS POSSIBLE TO STICK A THUMB NAIL IN SOME LOCATIONS. FOLLOWED THE RECALL PROCEDURE BUT THE EARLIEST THAT I CAN GET REPLACEMENT TIRES IS 7 WEEKS (FROM 9/1) AND EVEN THEN I WAS #100. THESE TIRES APPEAR EXTREMELY DANGEROUS BUT I AM FORCED TO USE THIS VEHICLE TO DRIVE TO WORK - 36 HIGHWAY MILES EACH WAY! WHAT AM I TO DO? *AK( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: P23575R15 )

CONSUMER NOTICE ALL FOUR TIRES HAVE DEVELOPED HAIRLINE CRACKS AT THE TREAD BASE. *AK ALL FOUR TIRES HAVE HAIR LINE CRACK AND WERE REPLACED BY THE CUSTOMER SINCE THEY ARE NOT ON RECALL LIST. *YH
CONSUMER FEELS THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM IS INFERIOR TO STANDARD BRAKES ESPECIALLY WHILE ON SNOW, ICE, WET OR SLICK PAVEMENT, OR IF A VEHICLE RUNS OFF THE ROAD ONTO GRASS OR DIRT SURFACES, THE CONSUMER HAS DONE MANY SELF TESTS WHICH RESULTED IN THE USE OF ANTI-LOCK BRAKES IN 4-WHEEL DRIVE HAVING A BETTER STOPPING DISTANCE IN SNOW CONDITIONS COMPARED TO THE USE OF ANTI-LOCK BRAKES NOT IN 4-WHEEL DRIVE, CONSUMER ALSO HAD DRUMS TURNED AT 71837 MILES AND A COMPLETE FRONT AND REAR BRAKE JOB. *SLC

I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH MY FIRESTONE ATX TIRES FOR 3-4 YEARS. MY EXPLORER WOULD STARTED VIBRATING AND I WOULD TAKE IT TO MY FIRESTONE DEALER IN HOUSTON. ONE THREE SEPARATE OCCAIONS OVER THE LAST 4 YEARS, THEY WOULD TELL ME THAT I HAD TREAD SEPARATION AND THAT IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH ATX TIRES ON EXPLORERS. HENCE, MY TIRE RECORDS AT FIRESTONE WILL SHOW THAT THEY KNEW OF THIS PROBLEM SERVERAL YEARS AGO. EACH TIME THEY TOLD ME, THEY WOULD ONLY OFFER TO PRORATE ME A NEW TIRE. THE THIRD TIME IT HAPPENED, I MADE A BIG SEEN IN THE DEALER STORE, AND THEY DECIDED TO GIVE ME A NEW TIRE. THE POINT OF THIS REPORT IS SIMPLY THAT MY DEALER KNEW OF THIS SERIOUS PROBLEM MANY YEARS AGO. I'M NOT SURE THAT THE TIRE FAILURES ARE FIRESTONE'S FAULT. THE EXPLORERS ARE EXTREMELY POOR HANDLING VEHICLES AND VERY ABUSIVE TO TREAD/SIDEWALL. *AK
EXTREME VIBRATION OCCURS WHILE VEHICLE IS BEING DRIVEN. PROBLEM BECOMES MORE PRONOUNCED WHEN SPEED IS 65 MPH OR WHEN TREAD IS BEGINNING TO SEPARATE FROM THE TIRES. PLEASE GIVE ANY FURTHER DETAILS.*AK

EVERY 1992 FOR EXPLORER THAT I HAVE SEEN HAS HAD BOTH REAR ROCKER PANELS RUSTED AWAY. ORIGONAL BODY RUST WAS GUARENTEED FOR 4 YEAR OR 60, 000 MI. MY RUST BEGAN MUCH PRIOR TO 60,000 MI. BUT I WAS TOLD AT MY FORD DEALER THAT THE RUST WOULD HAVE TO HAVE GONE ALL THE WAY THROUGH. MY WAS WELL TAKEN CARE OF AND DID NOT RUST AS MUCH AS MOST. FORD DOES NOT EVEN OFFER OR MAKE ANY PARTS TO REPAIR THIS. ASK ANY DEALER IN A 4 SEASON STATE AND THEY CAN TELL YOU THIS IS TRUE. I FEEL THIS IS WAY TOO WIDESPREAD AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY FORD TO IT'S CUSTOMERS. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH FORD SOME TIME AGO. THEY SAID MY COMPLAINT WAS NOTED AND I NEVER RECEIVED ANY RESPONSE. CONSUMER RECEIVED RECALL 00T-005 REGARDING THE FIRESTONE TIRES, THE CONSUMER HAS THE FIRESTONE ATX (P235/75R15) AND IS REQUESTING THE REIMBURSEMENT AGREEMENT STATED IN THE RECALL LETTER. *SLC
VEHICLE HAD FIRESTONE WILDERNESS AT TIRES (P235/75R15) AND EXPERIENCED A ROLLOVER, THE CONSUMER DID NOT SAY THE TIRES WERE THE CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT. *SLC

SMOKE A LOT OF SMOKE COMES OUT OF A/C HEATER VENTS THE SECOND TIME SO MUCH IT WAS HARD TO SEE OUT THAT WINDSHIELD SMELL OF BURNING RUBBER. *AK

ON 21 JANUARY 2001, WHILE IDLING, A FIRE STARTED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, CAUSING CABON MONOXIDE TO ENTER THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT, KILLING MY SON. THE FIRE THEN ENTERED AND SLIGHTLY BURNED HIS BODY BEFORE THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THE VIRGINIA STATE POLICE AND FORD MOTOR CO. SUPPOSEDLY INVESTIGATED BUT I HAVE NOT RECEIVED A REPORT FROM EITHER AGENCY.*AK

I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE NUMBER OF ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS I HAVE HAD SINCE I PURCHASED MY EXPLORER. SINCE NOVEMBER OF 1992, I HAVE HAD 3 BATTERIES SHORT OUT. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE BATTERY CABLE HARNESS (IF WAS FRIED). I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE IGNITION SWITCH. I HAVE ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE A/C, HEATER BLOWER SWITCH ALONG WITH A FUSE BOX THAT TIES INTO THIS SYSTEM. WHEN THE TRUCK IS RUNNING ALL OF THE LIGHTS FLICKER AND NOTICE THE ALTENATOR GAUGE FLUXUATING. WHEN REVIEWING THIS SITE, I NOTICED THE NUMBER OF ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WITH THE EXPLORER, ALONG WITH THE NUMBER OF FIRES. I AM BEGINNING TO WONDER IF I SHOULD BE CONCERNED. SIDE HUB HAD TO BE REPLACED, THE OTHER SIDE IS DEFECTIVE ALSO
VEHICLE WAS PICKED UP FROM A DEALERSHIP AND DRIVEN FOR APPROXIMATELY 20 MINUTES TO HAVE EMISSION SYSTEM CHECKED. WHEN HOOD WAS RAISED FOR THIS EXAMINATION AN ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE STARTED. AN EXAMINATION OF VEHICLE DETERMINED THAT FIRE ORIGINATED CLOSE TO BOTTOM OF ENGINE WHERE IT MET THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY. POSSIBLE CAUSE WAS AUTOMATIC TRANMISSION OVERHEATING AND CAUSING A GROUP OF WIRES AND GREASE TO IGNITE. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION / DOCUMENTATION. NOTE: PRIOR TO THE FIRE, THE DEALERSHIP WAS EXAMINING THE FOR THE FOLLOWING PROBLEMS: ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM, A HUB & WHEEL NOISE, AND A LEAKING EXHAUST MANIFOLD LOCATED CLOSE TO THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL UNIT.*AK

WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE SHAKES AND A WHINING NOISE CAN BE HEARD. DEALER MADE SOME REPAIRS TO THE STEERING, BUT DID NOT INFORM THE CONSUMER OF WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. THE PROBLEM HAS RETURNED. *AK
DRIVER SIDE HIGH BACK SEAT EXPERIENCED THE SAME DEFECT AS STATED IN RECALL 03 V 281 000 ; BUT THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL DUE TO VIN. *AK
FUEL TANK WAS LEAKING GASOLINE. DEALER DID NOT FIND WHAT CAUSED THE LEAK, BUT INDICATED TO THE CONSUMER THAT THE FUEL TANK SHOULD BE REPLACED. *AK CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE CHECKED WHEN SHE STARTED SMELLING GAS. THE MECHANIC LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD BUT COULDN'T FIND THE SOURCE. AFTER A MONTH, THE GAS TANK WAS REPLACED. THE CONSUMER BELIEVES THIS IS A COMPONENT THAT SHOULD NEVER BE REPLACED. *PH *NM
WHILE STARTING UP THE VEHICLE IT FAILED TO TURN ON. CONSUMER TRIED NUMEROUS TIMES BUT IT FAILED TO TURN ON. MECHANIC INSPECTED THE VEHICLE, AND DETERMINED THAT TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, AND HE REPLACED IT TWICE. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK
