WHEN RECALL FIRST STARTED, I TOOK VEHICLE TO FIRESTONE DEALER, WAS TOLD MY TIRES WERE NOT ON RECALL LIST, WAS ALSO TOLD THE SEPERATING LINES ON MY TIRES WERE CAUSED FROM "HEAT STRESS & ALL TIRES DO THAT!" I DON'T THINK SO, NOT ONE OF THE FOUR VEHICLES SITTING IN OUR DRIVEWAY HAVE THE LINES ON THEM LIKE THESE DO! PE00040, TIRE TREAD SEPARATION: WHLE DRIVING ABOUT 45 MPH TREAD ON ONE OF REAR TIRES CAME OFF. DRIVER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL, AND WAS NOT INJURED. TIRE SIZE LT23585R16, DOT # VDORTWT. CONSUMER TIRES WERE INCLUDED IN RECALL 00T-005 BUT THERE WERE NOT PARTS AVAILABLE FOR REPLACEMENT, CONSUMER REPLACED TIRE WITH COMPETITORS BRAND AND REQUEST COMPENSATION (FIRESTONE). NLM
CONCERNS ABOUT THE SWAY BAR PROBLEM, EXPLORER HAS VERY STIFF HANDLING. *CJ
CONSUMER NEEDED A TIRE PATCHED, DEALER WOULD NOT PATCH TIRE BECAUSE CONSUMER WAS WAITING FOR REPLACEMENT TIRES DUE TO RECALL 00T005 AND SAID THAT HAVING A NEW TIRE ON THE VEHICLE FOR A FEW WEEKS WOULD BE FINE, CONSUMER SENT A PHOTOCOPY OF THE RECEIPT FOR REIMBURSEMENT AND IS BEING DENIED BECAUSE THE ORIGINAL WASN'T SENT, CONSUMER IS REQUESTING REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE ROAD HAZARD WARRANTY THAT IS NOW USELESS AND FOR THE PRORATED COST OF A FAULTY TIRE THAT WAS REPLACED. *SLC
ALL 4 TIRES HAVE CRACKS ALL AROUND TOP EDGE OF TIRE AND IN TREAD. ALSO CRACKS ALL AROUND SIDEWALL OF TIRE WHERE RIM MOUNTS. TIRE DEALER INSPECTED TIRES AND SAID THEY ARE DANGEROUS AND TREAD IS READY TO SEPARATE. NEED TO TAKE THEM TO FIRESTONE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. TIRES WORE OUT TO SOON. SHOULD HAVE 10-15000 MILES LEFT BASED ON TREAD DEPTH. TOOK TO FIRESTONE DEALER AND THEY SAID TOO BAD. FOR $500 WE WILL GIVE YOU 4 NEW TIRES. THEY WILL ONLY HONOR TIRES THAT ARE ON RECALL LIST. HE ALSO SAID CRACKS NEED TO BE LOWER THAN THEY ARE ON SIDEWALL. PLEASE HELP! ALL THESE WILDERNESS TIRES ARE DANGEROUS. WE "DID NOT" FEEL "SAFE" WITH THESE TIRES ON OUR VEHICLE. WE TALKED TO REPRESENTATIVE FROM THE HOTLINE AND HE GAVES US THE OKAY TO GET NEW TIRES AND SEND IN THE FORMS. WELL WE WENT AND GOT THE NEW TIRES AND SENT IN THE PAPER WORK, AND WE GOT BACK A LETTER SAYING, "WE HAVE REVIEWED THE ENTIRE FILE AND UNFORTUNATELY, WE MUST RESPECTFULLY DENY YOUR REQUEST FOR A REFUND. WE ARE UNABLE TO PROCESS YOUR REFUND FOR ONE OR MORE REASONS: THE TYPE OF TIRE YOU REQUESTED REPLACEMENT/REIMBURSTMENT FOR WAS NOT PART OF THE VOLUNTARY SAFETY RECALL" WE HAVE ALSO WRITEN THEM A LETTER STATING THAT THEY WERE NOT SATISFING ALL THEIR CUSTOMERS. WINDSHIELD WASHER WILL NOT SPRAY FLUID ON THE WINDSHIELD UNLESS IT'S PUSHED HARD REPEATEDLY, ALSO THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS COME ON FOR NO APPARENT REASON. *SLC
SEAT BELTS DO NOT RETRACT FULLY WHEN DISENGAGED. CATCH IN DOORS AND CAUSES TEARS IN BELTS. *AK
POWER STEERING UNIT IS LEAKING. CONSUMER MUST HAVE COMPLETE STEERING RACK UNION REPLACED INSTEAD OF JUST STEERING UNIT WHICH IS MORE EXPENSIVE. *AK
CONSUMER RECEIVED MANUFACTURER'S RECALL 00S47 FOR SWAY BAR LINK. CONTACTED DEALER, MATHIEW FORD IN WINCHENDON, MA TELE#9782970001, DEALER REFUSED TO DO RECALL REPAIRS BECAUSE VEHICLE HAD A SALVAGE TITLE. CONSUMER WAS STILL DRIVING VEHICLE. DEALER CLAIMED HE WAS BEING TOLD BY FORD MANUFACTURER NOT TO PERFORM RECALL. *AK CONSUMER IS REQUESTING REIMBURSEMENT FOR REPAIRS. *SLC
ON FEBRUARY 19, 2000, ED CARNEY FORD REFUSED TO EXCHANGE MY RECALLED FIRESTONE TIRES BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT CURRENTLY MOUNTED ON MY VEHICLE AND I HAD OTHER TIRES ON THE CAR ... THIS DESPITE PRESENTING THE RECALLED TIRES AT THEIR DEALERSHIP THAT DAY. THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY HAS SINCE CONFIRMED TO ME THAT THE DEALERSHIP ACTED IMPROPERLY, AND THAT TIRES AFFECTED BY THE RECALL ARE TO BE EXCHANGED WHETHER THEY ARE CURRENTLY MOUNTED OR NOT. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SERIOUS BREECH OF ED CARNEY'S RESPONSIBLITIES IN THIS RECALL, WARRANTING THIS COMPLAINT, AND I HOPE THAT THE NHTSA WILL TAKE ACTIVE STEPS TO ENSURE THAT THEY DO NOT TRY TO SCAM OTHER CUSTOMERS THIS WAY IN THE FUTURE. *AK

WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT 60-65 MPH CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED IN WHICH VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AT SPEED AS HIGH AS 90 MPH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING, FOOT WAS DEPRESSED ON BRAKE PEDAL, AND VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE, BRAKES FAILED TO RESPOND. IN ORDER TO STOP VEHICLE IT WAS PLACED IN NEUTRAL AND THEN TURNED COMPLETELY OFF. CONSUMER HAS CONTACTED DEALER. NO DETERMINATION HAS BEEN MADE AT THIS TIME. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS.*AK

GRACO MODEL NUMBER 8480HG, DOM 2/17/01. I HAVE A 21 MONTH OLD BOY AND HE CAN EASILY UNDO THE HARNESS CLASP WHEN IN THE SEAT. I THINK THAT THE CLASP IS MADE OF A TOO FLEXIBLE MATERIAL. MANUFACTURER DOESN'T AGREE. COULD YOU CHECK INTO THIS?*AK
CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT, WHEN CALLING MANUFACTURER,HE WAS INFORMED ABOUT RECALL 00V402 AND WAS TOLD THAT IF THE MISSING LINK HAD CAUSED VEHICLE TO CRASH COMPANY WOULD REPLACE, VEHICLE,HOWEVER CONSUMER RECEIVED A LETTER STATING THAT VEHICLE WAS TOO DAMAGED FOR INSPECTION.
MY CAR STALLS CONTINUOUSLY ON A STEADY BASIS - MAY BE GOING OK AND THEN JUST STALLS AND MAY TAKE UP TO 30 TIMES TO GET IT TO START AGAIN - WILL ONLY GO IF IT IS IN NEUTRAL AND I SLAM THE GAS PEDAL - ALSO ANTI LOCK BRAKES SKID ALL THE TIME AND I AM TOLD THERE IS NO PROBLEM. *AK

SPARE TIRE IS SMALLER IN WIDTH AND IN DIAMETER THAN REGULAR VEHICLE TIRE. SPARE TIRE SIZE IS P22570R15 WHILE REGULAR TIRE SIZE IS P25570R16. CONSUMER CALLED AND ASKED A FIRESTONE DEALER WAS THIS SAFE AND DEALER STATED THAT IT WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE WITH DIFFERENT SIZE TIRES ON VEHICLE, CONSUMER WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT DOING SO COULD RUIN THE DIFFERENTIAL. CONSUMER STATED THAT ACCORDING TO FORD, THIS IS STANDARD EQUIPMENT.*AK *TT
EVERYNOW AND THEN THE 4X4 LIGHTS FLASH, WHILE IN 2 WHEEL DRIVE, WINDOWS WON'T ROLL UPOR DOWN. GOES AWAY AFTER A FEW MINUTES. FORD REPLACED IGNITION, BUT IT STILL DOES IT. DEALER WAS A BAD DEALER AND DID NOT KNOW WHAT WAS CAUSING PROBLEM BUT REPLACED IGNITION ANYWAYS.*AK
DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE CONSUMER HEARD A POP AND SAW SMOKE IN THE REAR, PULLED VEHICLE OVER AND FIRE ENGULFED FROM UNDER HOOD, POSSIBLE ENGINE FIRE. *JG
CONSUMER STATED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL JAMMED BETWEEN THE CENTER MOUNT AND CARPETED FLOOR WHILE DRIVING, THE PEDAL INCLUDING THE STEEL ARM AND MOUNTING BRACKET FAILED, WHICH BECAME SEPARATED FROM THE FIREWALL, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL MOUNTING BRACKET THAT HOLDS THE ENTIRE PEDAL AND RELATED ARM CABLE BROKE, CLOSER EXAMINATION REVEALED THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BRACKET WAS TACK WELDED TO THE INTERIOR OF THE FIREWALL UNDER THE DRIVERS SIDE DASHBOARD, THE WELD HOLDING BRACKET FAILED CAUSING THE PEDAL TO GET STUCK.*JB
THE STRAPS THAT HOLD THE FUEL TANK IN PLACE ARE BROKEN AND CORRODED, CAUSING THE FUEL TANK TO BE CONNECTED ONLY TO THE FUEL LINES. PLEASE GIVE ANY FURTHER DETAILS.*JB
BLEND DOOR BREAKS - WINDSHIELD FROSTS IN COLD WHEATER
THERE WOULD BE A KNOCKING SOUND FROM THE ENGINE AND THIS CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO SHAKE WHILE DRIVING. THE SPEED COULD VARY FOR THE KNOCKING BUT WHEN VEHICLE IS OVER 40MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD SHAKE. HAVE TAKEN TO INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND INDICATED NO RECALLS. WOULD NOT REPAIR VEHICLE FOR FREE. TS

FORD MOTOR COMPANY OFFERED TO REIMBURSE THE CONSUMER FORTY FIVE DOLLARS FOR REPAIRS DONE INSTALLING THE FRONT SWAY BAR LINKS. FORD MOTOR COMPANY WOULD ONLY DO THIS IF THE CONSUMER EXECUTED AND DELIVERED A GENERAL RELEASE FOR ANY AND ALL CLAIMS THAT SHE MAY HAVE HAD AGAINST THEM. * PH *JB
THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A PROBLEM WITH THE GOODYEAR WRANGLER RTF TIRE MODEL # P235/75R15. THE TIRES HAD CRACKS AND BUBBLES ON THE SIDE WALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY REPLACED THE TIRES. *NLM THESE WERE REPLACEMENT TIRES FOR THE RECALLED FIRESTONE TIRES. *SCC *JB
DOME LIGHT WILL NOT TURN OFF, CAUSING POOR VISIBILITY TO THE DRIVER WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO COULD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THE LIGHT TURNED OFF BEFORE ARRIVING AT THE DEALERSHIP. AFTER LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP THE LIGHT TURNED BACK ON AND WOULD NOT SHUT OFF. *AK
WHILE DRIVING DRIVER'S SEAT AUTOMATICALLY RECLINED, LAYING THE BACK OF THE SEAT COMPLETELY DOWN. THERE WERE NO ACCIDENTS. HOWEVER, THERE WAS RECALL 03V281000 ON THIS ISSUE. *AK
WHILE TURNING RIGHT OR LEFT AT LOW SPEEDS VEHICLE SHOOK. CONSUMER DROVE THE VEHICLE TO A BODY SHOP FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE TIE RODS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
