THIS SEAT BELT LATCH WAS MADE BY TRW AND HAS FAILED TO UN LATCH ON A NUMBER OF OCCASIONS. MY CONTACT AT FULTON FORD IN CANAL FULTON, OH 44614 SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO I WOULD HAVE TO BY A NEW PART. I FEEL THIS IS WRONG THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE! IT IS AGAINST THE LAW TO DRIVE WITHOUT A SEAT BELT. BEING THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE FORD/TRW SHOULD HAVE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM! GAS PEDAL STICKS- REPLD AT 30,000 MILES UNDER WARRANTY WITH UPGRADED VERSION PER DEALER. BUT IT IS NOW STICKING AGAIN. DEALER SAYS MANUFACTURER WILL NOT COVER UNDER WARRANTY AT THIS TIME. VERY HAZARDOUS WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE. AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. *AK
WHEN DRIVING AT SLOW TO MODERATE SPEEDS, AND ATTEMPTING TO BRAKE NORMALLY, THE ABS SYSTEM ACTIVATES PARTWAY INTO THE BRAKING SEQUENCE. BRAKING EFFICIENCY IS DRASTICALLY REDUCED, WITH BRAKING DISTANCE SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASED. THIS RESULTS IN UNCONTROLLABLE NEAR COLLATERAL DAMAGE AND PERSONAL INJURY. THE SITUATION IS ESPECIALLY NOTICEABLE WHEN NAVIGATING IN PARKING LOTS WHERE WALKING PEOPLE AND BACKING VEHICLES NEED TO BE AVOIDED OR WHEN APPROACHING VEHICLES STOPPED AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS OR BREAKING FOR CROSSING PEDESTRIANS. *AK
PE02000, TIRE TREAD SEPARATION: WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH, TREAD ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR TIRE CAME OFF AND WRAPPED AROUND THE AXLE. DRIVER WAS ABLE TO CONTROL VEHICLE, AND WAS NOT HURT. NO OTHER PASSENGERS WERE IN THE TRUCK. TIRE WAS A FIRESTONE, WILDERNESS, NOT ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT. TIRE MILEAGE WAS ABOUT 20,000. TIRE WAS SENT TO FIRESTONE. OWNER WAS SENT A CHECK FOR A NEW TIRE AND TO COVER DAMAGES TO TRUCK. PLEASE LIST DOT # . *AK THE FIRESTONE DEALER PAID FOR ONE NEW TIRE AND DAMAGE TO THE VEHCILE. THIS ACCIDENT OCCURRED DURING RAIN AND HIGH WIND. HOWEVER, GIVEN THE PROBLEMS RECENTLY REPORTED IN THE PRESS I WANTED TO REPORT THE ISSUE. WHILE DRIVING AND TRYING TO CHANGE LANES, PRESSED ON THE ACCELERATOR AND IT STUCK DUE TO ABROKE WELD. THIS CAUSED VEHICLE TOOK OFF. CONSUMER SAID DRIVER HAD TO PRESS THE GAS PEDAL AGAIN TO GET PEDAL UNSTUCK. *AK

WE SUFFERED A SUDDEN TIRE FAILURE ON THE LEFT REAR WHEEL WHILE TRAVELING NORTHBOUND ON I10 BETWEEN TUCSON AND PHOENIX AND TOWING A 1970 VW BEETLE. JUST PRIOR TO THE TIRE FAILURE, I FELT SOMETHING WAS NOT RIGHT, SO I STOPPED THE VEHICLE ON THE SHOULDER OF THE INTERSTATE AND INSPECTED THE HITCH, THE VW BEETLE AND THE REAR TIRES ON MY EXPLORER AND FOUND NOTHING OF CONCERN. AS I WAS GETTING BACK UP TO SPEED, THE TIRE TREAD ON THE REAR LEFT TIRE CAME TOTALLY OFF AND THE EXPLORER FELT LIKE I WAS DRIVING ON ICE, ESSENTIALLY NO STEERING WITHOUT DANGER OF LOSING CONTROL. I STABILIZED THE VEHILCLE BUT IT GRADUALLY SLIDE TO THE LEFT AND I SENSED THAT IF I TRIED TO CORRECT THE CAR WOULD GO OUT OF CONTROL. FORTUNATELY, I WAS IN THE RIGHT LANE ON A TWO LANE HIGHWAY WITH NO ONE AROUND BUT I THE CAR GRADUALLY MOVE TO THE LEFT SLOWING SLOWLY; WHEN THE BEETLE CAUGHT THE SHOULDER GRAVEL WE LAUNCHED INTO TO A ROLL OVER. WE ROLLED TWICE AND LANDED UPRIGHT AND THE TREADLESS TIRE WAS STILL INFLATED. TOWING THE BEETLE PROVIDED A SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT OF DRAG SLOWING BOTH VEHICLES LESSENING THE SEVERITY OF THE EXPLORER'S ROLL. WHEN THE BEETLE BROKE LOOSE DURING THE ROLL IT TOOK A LOT OF MOMENTUM WITH IT AS IT ROLLED MUCH FURTHER THAN THE EXPLORER CAUSING THE EXPLORER TO HIT ON BOTH ROOF EDGES ON SUBSEQUENT ROLLS AND LANDING ON THE TIRES WITHOUT THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYING; BOTH PASSENGER WERE WEARING SEATBELTS AND DESPITE SPRAINS, BRUISES AND SCRATCHES WE WALKED AWAY FROM THE ACCIDENT. HOWEVER, BOTH CARS WERE TOTALED AND CONTENTS DAMAGED AND LOST. A FEW WEEKS BEFORE THIS, I HAD THE FRONT TIRE DEVELOP A SEVERE BUMP AND TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL FIRESTONE DEALER AND BOUGHT NEW FRONT TIRE AND ASKED THEM TO CHECK THE REAR TIRES WHICH STILL HAD PLENTY OF TREAD DEPTH WHICH BY THE WAY THE FRONT TIRE THAT DEVELOPED THE BUMP ALSO HAD PLENTY OF TREAD LEFT. FIRESTONE DEALER ASSURED ME THE BACK TIRES DID NOT NEED REPLACING. *AK( DOT NUMBER: )
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1995 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SWAY BAR WAS FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE LINK ROD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED TWICE OVER A ONE YEAR PERIOD. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
SEATBELT RELEASES WHEN LEANING FORWARD AND FAILS TO SECURE DRIVER IN PLACE
WHILE DRIVING ACROSS ALLIGATOR ALLEY (I-75) IN FLORIDA IN MY 95 FORD EXPLORER AROUND 8:30PM AT A SPEED OF 75MPH WITH FOUR WELL-KEPT INFLATED TIRES WITH NO VISUAL DEFECTS, THE LEFT REAR TIRE TREAD PEALED OFF FROM THE CORE OF THE TIRE WITHOUT WARNING OR IMPACT OF ANY OBJECT IN THE ROAD. MY SUVS REAR END BEGAN TO SWERVE, I WAS ABLE TO KEEP SOME CONTROL LONG ENOUGH TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP WITH NO INJURES. NI WANTS TO PURSUE A CLAIM AGAINST FIRESTONE. HIS TIRE CAME APART AND CAUSED HIM TO HIT A TREE. NI HAS COPY OF RECEIPTS WERE HE REPLACED HIS TIRES WITH FIRESTONE TIRES. THE TEMPERATURE GUAGE STOPPED WORKING 12/98. THE DEALERSHIP WAS ASKED TO LOOK AT IT SHORTLY THEREAFTER. THEY SAID IT WAS NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT...PROBABLY SOMETHING IN THE WIRING OF THE GUAGE, AND IT MAY BE EXPENSIVE TO FIND IT. SEVERAL MONTHS LATER WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE THERMOSTAT. THE TEMPERATURE GUAGE IMMEDIATELY BEGAN WORKING. WE COULD HAVE ENCOUNTERED A NUMBER OF SERIOUS PROBLEMS (SUCH AS OVERHEATING IN TEXAS IN THE SUMMER), BUT THE DEALERSHIP DIDN'T CATCH IT. THEN, OUR LOCK ACTUATOR WENT OUT. BECAUSE IT WAS A REAR DOOR, THE DEALERSHIP SAID THE MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY DIDN'T COVER IT. WE PAID $188.16 TO FIX IT IN ADDITION TO THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. IF THE DEALER'S WARRANTY COVERS THE FRONT DOORS, IT SHOULD COVER THE REAR DOORS. THIS MAKES NO SENSE AND COST US A LOT OF MONEY OUT OF OUR POCKETS! WE ONLY HAVE 65,000 MILES ON OUR CAR.

ANTI-LOCK STOP WORKING EACH TIME THE VEHICLE COMES IN CONTACT WITH X-BAND RADAR SIGNALS FROM TRAIN SIGNALS OR CELLULAR TELEPHONE TOWERS. ANTI-LOCK BRAKE FAILURE LIGHT COMES ON AT THE SAME PLACE EACH DAY IN MY COMMUTE TO WORK.
LAST YEAR MY CAR WOULD SHUT DOWN. GO FROM REGULAR RPM TO ZERO AND DIE. THIS WOULD LOCK MY STEERING COLUMN. I OBSERVED THAT THIS HAPPENED WHEN THE OUTDOOR TEMPERATURE EXCEEDED ABOUT 90 DEGREES F AND THE CAR WAS EXPOSED TO SUN (MORE LIKELY TO SHUT DOWN THAT IF I WAS COMING OUT OF A COVERED GARAGE WHERE THE TEMP WAS LOWER, UNTIL EXPOSED TO THE HIGHER OUTSIDE TEMP READ. THE STEERING COLUMN WOULD LOCK AS THE IGNITION SHUT OFF WHETHER I WAS IDLING IN A DRIVE THRU LANE OR EXISTING A FREEWAY RAMP WHERE I WOULD EXPECT TO GO FROM 55 TO 35 TO ZERO AT THE STOP, I WOULD GO TO ZERO AND BYPASS 34-1 MPH. JUST COMPLETE SYSTEM SHUT DOWN AND COLUMN LOCK. I TOOK THE CARE IN AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE FUEL INJECTORS AND PAID $500 FOR WHO KNOWS WHAT BECAUSE THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. IT'S HOT. THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. IT'S DANGEROUS. AM I PLACING MY FAMILY AT RISK? I ALREADY HAD THE AEROSTAR CATCH FIRE IN THE STEERING COLUMN WHILE I WAS AT FULL FREEWAY SPEED . AS I DRIVE THE EXPLORER ON THE HIGHWAY OR AT ANY SPEEDS FOR LONGER PERIODS OF TIME(200+ MILES), ENGINE CHECK LIGHT COMES ON, AND THE HORSEPOWER IS AFFECTED. GAS MILEAGE DECREASES TO ABOUT 8 MPG, AND THIS LASTS FOR AS LONG AS THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN. I HAVE HAD THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED, AND I HAVE CHANGED THE SPARK PLUGS, THE SPARK PLUG WIRES, THE MASS AIR-FLOW SENSOR, THE FUEL FILTERS AND THE ALTERNATOR. THE PROBLEM IS STILL OCCURRING THOUGH. I WOULD LIKE TO GET THE PROBLEM FIXED SO AS TO FEEL SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE. *AK

VEHICLE WAS BEING OPERATED ON US60 (FREEWAY) IN MESA AZ AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH IN THE CENTER LANE OF A 3 LANE ROADWAY. ALL WAS NORMAL WITH NO VIBRATIONS. THERE WAS AN INSTANT BANG WITH IMMEDIATE ONSET OF MAJOR VIBRATIONS AND THE VEHICLE PULLED INITIALLY TO THE LEFT AND THEN BACK TO THE RIGHT. THERE WAS TRAFFIC TO THE LEFT FRONT AND RIGHT REAR AT THE TIME OF THE EVENT. WHEN TRAFFIC CLEARED THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OFF TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER. THE RIGHT REAR TIRE HAD LOST ALL BUT A 1 INCH STRIP OF THE TREAD SURFACE OVER THE COMPLETE CIRCUMFERENCE OF THE TIRE. THE TIRE STILL HAD AIR PRESSURE AND DUE TO THE SHOULDER HAZARD ON THE FREEWAY, THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE NEXT EXIT WHERE THE TIRE WAS CHANGED IN A PARKING LOT. THERE WAS OBVIOUSLY A VERY LARGE PIECE OF TIRE RUBBER THAT WAS THROWN OUT INTO TRAFFIC AND NOT RECOVERED. IT IS FORTUNATE THAT THIS WAS RATHER LATE HOUR WITH LITTLE TRAFFIC. HAD THIS EVENT OCCURRED DURING RUSH HOUR WITH SOLID TRAFFIC IT WOULD ALMOST CERTAINLY HAVE RESULTED IN SECONDARY DAMAGE OR COLLATERAL ACCIDENTS. CONSUMER WAS DRIVING DOWNHILL ON GRAVEL ROAD 10-20 MPH, BRAKES WERE APPLIED BUT FAILED TO SLOW THE VEHICLE, VEHICLE STARTED TO FISH TAIL BECAME UNBALANCED AND ROLLED. *ET
