PE02000; TIRE TREAD SEPARATION: WHILE DRIVING AT 70 MPH, TREAD ON THE REAR PASSENGER'S SIDE TIRE CAME OFF. DRIVER LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE. EXPLORER FLIPPED OVER THREE TIMES. TWO OTHER PASSENGER'S WERE IN THE EXPLORER. DRIVER WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL. THE OTHER TWO PASSENGERS WERE TREATED AT THE SCENE. TIRE WAS A FIRESTONE ATX, ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT. THE EXPLORER WAS TOTALLED. *AK
WHILE HAVING VEHICLE REPAIRED AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP FOR ANTI FREEZE LEAKING FROM THE HEAD GASKETS THE REPAIR WAS NOT DONE PROPERLY, THE DEALERSHIP DAMAGED/SCATCHED VEHICLE AND DID NOT BOLT DOWN REPAIR AREAS PROPERLY. *MJS
I NOTICED BOUNCING OF THE VEHICLE WHEN TRAVELING OVER DIPS IN THE ROAD. I WOULD IMAGINE THIS PROBLEM IS VERY WIDE SPREAD BUT IS NOT NOTICEABLE TO MANY PEOPLE BECAUSE THE OF THE "FIRMNESS" OF THE OTHER PARTS OF THE SUSPENSION. SUCH AS THE TORSION BARS. I HAD FRONT SHOCKS REPLACED AFTER PRESSURING THE DITSCHMAN FORD(FLEMINGTON, NJ) DEALERSHIP PRETTY HARD. I NOTICED THE DIFFERENCE IMMEDIATELY. THE PROBLEM SEEMED TO REAPPEAR AGAIN AFTER ONLY 4,000 ADDITIONAL MILES.THE SAME PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE TRUE OF THE REAR SHOCKS ALSO. THIS PROBLEM RESULTS IN BOUNCING AND DIVING OF THE NOSE OF THE VEHICLE DURING HARD BRAKING. I WOULD IMAGINE IN EMERGENCY(SEVERE)HANDLING THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT PERFORM AS EXPECTED. I AM NOW CONSIDERING AN AFTERMARKET SET OF SHOCKS.
FALSE ABS ACTIVATION WHILE LIGHT BRAKING AT LOW SPEEDS. THAT IS
WHILE DRIVING AT 30 MPH WENT TO APPLY FOR THE BRAKES ON WET PAVEMENT AND BRAKES DIDN'T WORK. CONSUMER HIT A TREE. PULLING THE VEHICLE FROM THE TREE THERE WAS SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD AND THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. *AK
ON OCTOBER 21, 1998 I WAS INVOLVED IN AN AUTOMOBLE ACCIDENT. A FORD TAURUS PULLED OUT OF A PARKING LOT (FROM A COMPLETE STOP) DIRECTLY INTO MY PATH. I WAS TRAVELING AT 30 MPH AND WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES I SLID DIRECTLY INTO THE DRIVERS DOOR. RAIN HAD BEEN FALLING ALL DAY(THE FIRST RAIN OF THE YEAR). THEREFORE, I DO NOT FEEL THAT MY EXPLORER SLOWED AT ALL, MY TOTAL SKID WAS BETWEEN FIVE AND TEN FEET IN LENGTH. MY QUESTION/COMPLAINT IS WHY DID MY AIR BAGS NOT DEPLOY? I WAS WEARING MY SEATBELT, BUT I STILL HIT THE STEERING WHEEL. I HAVE BEEN LOOKING ON THE INTERNET FOR INFORMATION ON THE SPEED A VEHICLE HAS TO BE TRAVELING IN ORDER FOR THE AIRBAG TO ACTIVATE. THE NATIONAL INSURANCE INSTITUTE WEB PAGE SAID THE AVERAGE SPEED SHOULD BE BETWEEN 12-16 MPH. MY EXPLORER HAS MANY PROBLEMS (IT'S A LEMON). THIS, HOWEVER, WORRIES ME. WOULD MY AIRBAG ACTIVATE AT A HIGHER SPEED? SHOULD I BE AFRAID TO PUT MY FAMILY INSIDE AND GO FOR A RIDE? THIS ALL MAY BE IN VANE, THERE IS A GOOD CHANCE MY INSURANCE COMPANY MAY CONSIDER IT TOTALED. REAR TIRE BLEWOUT CAUSING DRIVER TO LOOSE CONTROL AS A RESULT THE VEHICLE RAN OFF THE ROAD, THE DRIVER JERKED THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE RIGHT AND THE VEHICLE ENTERED THE ROAD AND FLIPPED THREE TIMES LANDING ON ITS WHEELS, PHYSICAL EVIDENCE DOES NOT SUPPORT BLOWOUT, BUT DOES INDICATE TREAD SEPARATION WHICH PARTIALLY CAME OFF THE BODY OF THE TIRE, THREE PEOPLE WERE INJURED ONE WAS KILLED (TEXAS PEACE OFFICES ACCIDENT REPORT, BRIDGESTONE/FIRESTONE, P235/75R15, RADIAL ATX M/S, VDHL1PM276, RIGHT REAR). PASSENGER'S SIDE REAR TIRE OUTSIDE STEEL BELT SEPARATED FROM THE TIRES AND CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. CAUSE UNKNOWN. *AK
THE FIRESTONE TIRE BLEW, THE TREAD COMPLETELY PEALED OFF. THIS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO GO OUT OF CONTROL AND FLIP OVER. IT SLID DOWN THE HIGHWAY UP SIDE DOWN FOR A FEW HUNDRED FEET BEFORE IT SLAMMED INTO A GUARDRAIL AND STOPPED. THE DRIVER SUFFERED ABRASIONS FROM THE DEPLOYMENT OF THE AIRBAG. THE PASSENGER WAS BANGED AROUND SOME AND WENT UNCONSCIOUS AT ONE POINT. HE WAS TAKEN TO THE NEAREST HOSPITAL, EXAMINED AND TREATED. HE SPENT SEVERAL MONTHS GOING THRU REHABILITATION FOR NECK PAIN BUT IT HAS NEVER GONE COMPLETELY AWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS A TOTAL LOSS.( DOT NUMBER: )
WHILE IN REVERSE VEHICLE ACCELERATED SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY, RESULTING IN A COLLISION, AND MINOR INJURIES. VEHICLE WAS TOTALLED. *AK PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT, THE VEHICLE HAD ACCELERATED FORWARD AT FULL THROTTLE AFTER STARTING DISPITE FRANTIC BREAKING BY DRIVER. *YH

VEHICLE TRAVELING NORTH ON I-75 IN THE LEFT LANE, NORTH OF TAMPA, FL, THE RIGHT REAR TIRE SUFFERED TREAD LOSS, THE ENTIRE TREAD OF THE TIRE CAME OFF. CAR WENT OUT OF CONTROL, SPUN 180, WENT INTO AND ACROSS MEDIAN, STRUCK EDGE OF SOUTHBOUND LANE, FLIPPED ONCE, STRIKING ANOTHER VEHICLE IN SOUTHBOUND LANE, TRAVELED 62 FEET ON WEST SHOULDER OF I 75, TRAVELED OVER A CEMENT WALL, CRASHED INTO CEMENT CULVERT. DRIVER AND PASSENGER INJURED, DRIVER OF OTHER VEHICLE INJURED. HAVE POLICE REPORT AND PHOTOS CLEARLY SHOWING TIRE MISSING THE TREAD.( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: P225/70R15 )
TURNED INTO DRIVEWAY BRAKES FAILED, VEHICLE ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO GARAGE.
WHEN VEHICLE FRONT TIRES SHOWED SIGNS OF CUPPING, IT WAS TAKEN TO NTW FOR SERVICE AND WE WERE TOLD THAT ALL FORD TRUCKS AND SUVS REQUIRE A CAMBER KIT TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. WHEN I CONTACTED OUR FORD DEALER, NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. SO THIS COST US 129.00 FOR A PROBLEM FORD KNOWS ABOUT DESIGNS INTO THE VEHICLES AND THEN WILL NOT FIX. I BELEIVE THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON ALL VEHICLES, OR MAYBE THIS IS ANOTHER WAY TO MAKE MONEY
WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH NOTICED LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE, THE TIRE EXPLODED AND LEFT THE NOTHING, BUT TREAD ON THE RIMS. CONSUMER LOST SOME CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, BUT WAS ABLETO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A COMPLETE STOP AFTER APPLYING THE BRAKES AND PUTTING THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. *AK
TOWING EXPL. BEHIND MOTORHOME ON INTERSTATE 580. LEFT REAR TIRE BLEW. WE PAID $500.00 DEDUCTABLE. AUGUST 1999 WHILE DRIVING IN ALASKA THE RIGHT REAR TIRE BLEW. THESE TIRES ARE NOT ON THE RECALL LIST BUT WE WANTED YOU TO KNOW THAT OTHER FIRESTONE TIRES ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS.( DOT NUMBER: W2UU TIRE SIZE: P225/70R15 )
TREAD CAME OFF WHILE DRIVING. THE TIRE DAMAGED THE REAR QUARTER PANEL OF THE SUV AND BROKE THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR TAILLIGHT. NO ACCIDENT WAS CAUSED AS A RESULT OF THE TIRE DECOMPOSITION.( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: P235/75R15 )
PE00 020; CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 65MPH ON HIGHWAY AND THERE WAS A POPPYING NOISE. ALSO, HEARD TREAD SLAPPING AGAINST VEHICLE. DRIVER'S SIDE REAR TIRE TREAD HAD SEPARATED. CONSUMER HAD TIRE REPLACED. TIRES WERE FIRESTONE #AT, P23575R15. TIRE WAS REPLACED AT THIS TIME, AND WAS FROM THE DECATUR, ILLINOIS PLANT. TIRE WAS EXPERIENCING LOSS OF AIR PRESSURE.*AK
I HAVE A CONSTANT CHIRPING & GRINDING COMING FROM THE BRAKES EVEN AFTER REPAIR, FORD CANN'T SEEM TO LOCATE THE SOURCE MUCH LESS MAKE PROPER REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN CHECKED BY THEM 5 TIMES NOW WITH OUT THEM LOCATING THE PROBLEM. THE BRAKES ALSO PULL TO THE LEFT WHEN APPLIED FIRMLY.
THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT SHIFT INTO DRIVE. WHEN IN DRIVE THE CAR COASTS AT ABOUT 1 MPH. IT WILL GO INTO REVERSE AND PARK OK. THE CAR IS DRIVEN UNDER NORMAL TO LIGHT DRIVING CONDITIONS. I HAS NEVER BEEN USED FOR TOWING. THE TRANSMISSION FLUID HAS BEEN CHECKED AND IT IS FINE. THE WARRANTY EXPIRED ON 3/9/2000. JUST A WEEK PRIOR TO THE WARRANTY EXPIRATION WARRANTY WORK WAS COMPLETED ON THE TRANSFER CASE AND NOTHING WAS NOTED AS BEING WRONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION. THE LAST SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE WAS COMPLETED ON THE VEHICLE IN JUNE 2000. THE BRAKES PULSATE WHEN SLOWING DOWN FROM HIGH SPEEDS. THEY WERE SERVICED ONCE BY FORD FOR THIS PROBLEM AND THE SERVICING DID NOT CORRECT IT. FORD REFUSED TO SERVICE THEM AGAIN AND THEY CONTINUE TO PULSATE WHEN SLOWING DOWN FROM HIGH SPEEDS.
SUDDEN ACCELERATION WHILE PULLING AT APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH. ACCELERATOR PEDAL WENT DOWN TO THE FLOOR AND WOULD NOT RETURN, CAUSING VEHICLE TO LOSE CONTROL AND RUN OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BEFORE STOPPING. NO INJURIES TO REPORT. *AK
ACCELERATOR WOULD STICK. THE BRAKES FAILS TO WORK WHEN THIS HAPPENS. CAN HAPPEN AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS. HAVE TAKEN TO DEALER & INFORMED IDLE AIR CONTROL MOTOR NEEDED REPLACING. PROBLEM SINCE RETURNED. *AK
THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL ASSEMBLY DISCONNECTED FROM AXLE AND SEPARATED FROM VEHICLE, CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL.THE VEHICLE LEFT THE ROAD DURIN AN EVASIVE MANEUVER TO AVOID A COLLISION WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE AT WHICH TIME THE ASSEMBLY FAILED.
INSIDE REAR DOOR HANDLE IS INOPERATIVE.
BOTH FRONT ANTI LOCK BRAKE SENSORS FAILED. * ET
WE HAVE HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH OUR ABS (ANNOYING PEDAL FEEDBACK DURING NORMAL BRAKING AS WELL AS DURING BACK-UP), THE FRONT BRAKES WERE COMPLETELY SHOT AT 17,000 MILES (WE DO NOT HAVE A TOW PACKAGE) THE ROTOR'S HAD TO BE MILLED, AND UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION BY THE DEALERSHIP ( AFTER NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS BY ME) FOUND OUT THE REAR BRAKES WERE NOT FUNCTIONING AT ALL. I HAVE 2 SMALL CHILDREN AND I AM BECOMING MORE CONCERNED ABOUT THEIR SAFETY AS THIS SITUATION PERSISTS. I BOUGHT A FORD BECAUSE THEY HAD A BETTER SAFETY RATING AT THE TIME THEN OTHER SIMILAR MAKES
BOTH REAR INTERIOR DOOR LATCHES FAIL TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE. FIRST THE RIGHT REAR DOOR FAILED TO OPEN FROM THE INSIDE, THEN THE LEFT REAR ALSO FAILED. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AS IT "TRAPS" THE REAR PASSENGERS IN THE VEHICLE. THE ONLY WAY TO OPEN THE REAR DOORS IS FROM THE OUTSIDE. I CALLED A LOCAL FORD DEALER AND THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT INDICATED THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE COST OF REPAIR.
THIS IS A LEASED VEHICLE FROM FORD MOTOR COMPANY, THE DOOR LOCKS AND TAIL GATE LOCK HAVE A SHORT IN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM THAT CAUSES THE LOCKS TO GO UP AND DOWN AND THE MOTOR TO STAY ON INSIDE THE DOORS CAUSING THEM TO OVERHEAT AND CREATE POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARDS. THE FUSE HAD TO BE TAKEN OUT OF THE VEHICLE TO SHUT THE LOCK MECHANISHMS OFF, THE FORD COMPANY REFUSES TO FIX THIS DEFECT IN THIS VEHICLE.

OIL IS LEAKING FROM THE FRONT AXLE SEAL UNTO THE POWER STEERING BELT, CAUSING IT TO SLIP RESULTING IN LOSS OF POWER STEERING CONTROL. PLEASE GIVE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *AK
VEHICLE OUT OF ALIGNMENT REPLACEMENT OF FAULTY FRONT WHEEL BEARING DID NOT RECTIFY REQUIRED INSTALLATION OF CASTER/CAMBER KIT TO ALLIGN PROPERLY DUE TO DESIGN OF SUSPENSION SYSTEM.

DRIVER LOST CONTROL OF THE EXPLORER, WHICH RESULTED IN A ROLLOVER. 3 OTHER PASSENGER'S WERE IN THE EXPLORER. NO ONE WAS INJURED. EXPLORER WAS TOTALLED. TIRE WAS NOT ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT. PLEASE LIST TIRE NAME, SIZE, DOT # AND MILEAGE IF POSSIBLE. ALL CLAIMS WERE HANDLED BY INSURANCE COMPANY. *AK
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 15, GOING 75 MILES AN HOUR. THE EXPLORER ROLLED 3 TIMES. MY DAUGHTER WAS NOT SERIUOSLY HURT. HER FRIEND NINA WAS EJECTED FROM THE VEHICLE AND HER ARM WAS BROKE. SHE HAD TO HAVE SURGERY AND THEY HAD TO PUT IN A PLATE. MY RIGHT LEG WAS BROKEN AND I CHUNK WAS REMOVED. I STILL HAVE PROBLEMS WITH MY LEG.( DOT NUMBER: )

TRAVELLING ON THE FL TURNPIKE ON A VERY HOT DAY AT APPX 70 MPH THE RIGHT REAR TIRE CASING BLEW OFF THE TIRE. THE INSIDE TIRE STAYED INVLATED. I DROVE OFF THE EXPRESSWAY TO THE NEAREST FIRESTONE . THEY DID NOT TELLME THIS WAS A PRODUCT DEFECT AND THEY SHOULD FIX THE DAMAGES TO MY VEHICLE. THE TAIL LIGHT WAS SMASHED, THE COWLING AROUND THE WHEEL WELL WAS DAMAGED. I PAID TO REPLACE ALL 4 TIRES. I ALSO HAD A TIRE BLOWOUT ON THE HIGHWAY BUT NO DAMAGE WAS DONE TO THE VEHICLE ON THAT OCCASION.THESE TIRES ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL BUT MAYBE THEY SHOULD BE. OWNER REPLACED ALL 3 TIRES DUE TO TREAD WEAR PRIOR TO RECALL(ONE TIRE REPLACED ON 7/13/98 TWO OTHERS ON 4/12/99) AND IS SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT FROM FIRESTONE. *CJ
THESE 3 INCIDENTS OCCURRED WITHIN A COUPLE HOURS ON A VERY HOT DAY (>100) IN ID. ONE PUNCTURE AND THEN ONE BLOWOUT OCCURRED ON DIRT ROADS. THE LAST BLOWOUT OCCURRED ON PAVEMENT. BOTH BLOWOUTS INVOLVED SEPARATION OF THE TREAD FROM THE REST OF THE TIRE.( DOT NUMBER: W2UU1MX TIRE SIZE: P225/70R15 )
THE 1ST INCIDENT REPORTED WAS A CATASTROPHIC BLOWOUT OF A FIRESTONE WILDERNESS AT LT235/75R15 DOT VDHK AWZ. IT OCCURRED LATE AT NIGHT ON A COLD FEBRUARY NIGHT (2/21/99) ON A WISCONSIN INTERSTATE. THERE WAS NO WARNING, NO SIGN OF ANYTHING ON THE ROAD, AN( DOT NUMBER: VDHK AWZ TIRE SIZE: 235/75R15 )
TRAVELING AT 70 MPH ON I-64 IN THE LEFT HAND LANE ON JULY 2, 1998 AROUND 5:00PM WHEN I HEARD A THUD. IMMEDIATELY PULLED INTO THE EMERGENCY LANE WITH SOME DIFFICULTY.
