SUPPORT FRAME THAT HOLDS CAR TOGETHER ON FRONT OF VEHICLE WAS SEVERELY CRACKED. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER, AND THEY WERE NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING. CONSUMER FELT THAT THE ENTIRE FRONT END OF VEHICLE COULD FALL OFF. THEN, CAR WOULD FLIP OVER, AND PASSENGER COULD BE INJURED OR KILLED. VEHICLE WAS ROLLING DEATH TRAP. FRAME SHOULD NEVER BREAK, IT COULD BE BENT, BUT NOT BROKEN. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
WHEN SHUTTING OFF ENGINE AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS ENGAGED. DRIVER'S REAR DOOR LOCK WAS REPLACED IN SEPTEMBER 2001, PASSENGER REAR DOOR LOCK WAS REPLACED DECEMBER 19, 2001.
WHILE DRIVING UNDER NORMAL OPERATING CONDITIONS ENGINE SURGED AND WOULD NOT DECELERATE. CONSUMER PUT VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL, AND WAS ABLE TO STOP VEHICLE. DEALERSHIP HAS EXAMINED VEHICLE, AND HAS INFORMED CONSUMER THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL 97V074000 DUE TO VIN. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION/ATTACHMENTS.*AK
TIRE TOTALLY BROKE DOWN LIKE NEVER BEFORE SEEN; INSPECTED BY GOODYEAR; SAID NORMAL BLOWOUT OF UNDER INFLATED TIRE. INSPECTED BY CERTIFIED MECHANIC. THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR TIRE BLEW OUT AT A LOW RATE OF SPEED ( SIDEWALL FAILURE), THERE WAS GOOD TREAD LEFT ON THE TIRE, THE BRAKE LIGHTS FAILED DUE TO A AFTER MARKET ALARM SYSTEM THAT WAS INSTALLED BY TAPPING IN TO THE BRAKE LIGHTS FOR POWER. 1996 EXPLORER FRONT END BEGAN SHAKING VIOLENTLY. VEHICLE THEN PULLED TO THE RIGHT AND CONSUMER LOST CONTROL STRIKING A GUARD RAIL. *TS THE STEERING ARM BROKE ON THE RIGHT WHEEL RESULTING IN AN ACCIDENT. *NM
CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING 65MPH ON HIGHWAY AND ACCELERATED INTO ANOTHER LANE. ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS STUCK ALL THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM OF FLOOR. THERE WAS A LOUD STREAKING NOISE, AND BOTH FEET WERE ON THE BRAKE. SHE WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDERS, AND VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED.*AK

WHILE DRIVING AT GA400, NOTICED THAT VEHICLE CAN NOT BE SLOWED DOWN AFTER APPLYING BRAKE PEDALS SEVERAL TIMES. NOTICE THAT THE RPM IS INCREASING. FEARING THAT SINCE THERE IS NOT WAY TO SLOWING DOWN THE CAR,I SHIFTED TO THE GEAR TO NEUTRAL AND EXIT AT HOLCOMB BRIDGE EXIT. SINCE THE SPEED IS STILL AT 70MPH, THE CAR HIT THE ENBANKMENT, WENT DOWN THE GRASSY AREA AND (FFG IS WHAT I CAN REMEMBER HAPPENED)AND HIT A WATER RUN-OFF/DITCH, DID A SPIN AND CAME UP AND STOP AT THE GRASSY AREA. I WAS ABLE TO TURN OFF OF THE ENGINE WHEN I CAME BACK TO SENSES AND RAN TO THE CLOSEST GAS STATION (CHEVRON) TO CALL AAA. THE TOW TRUCK OPERATOR NOTICED THAT WHEN HE RESTARTED THE ENGINE, IT WAS ROARING AT 5000RPM. TOWED IT TO FORD DEALER/SERVICE AT MANSELL ROAD, WAS TOLD 2-DAYS LATER THAT THEY HAVE INSPECT LINKAGE FOR BINDING AND TROTTLE BODY FOR BINDING, BUT DID NOT FIND ANY PROBLEM, AND SINCE THEY CAN NOT REPRODUCE THE SITUATION, THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO BUT TO BRING IT BACK WHEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN??? I FEARED FOR THE NEXT TIME THAT IT HAPPENED, LIFES WOULD BE AFFECTED.*AK
WHILE DRIVING SEATBACK FELL BACKWARDS, AND CONSUMER RAN OFF THE ROAD BEFORE STOPPING. HAS CONTACTED DEALER ,AND THE DEALER WAS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING.*AK *YH
THE VEHICLES OVERDRIVE FAILED RESULTING IN TRANSMISSION FAILURE, THE MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN CONTACTED. NLM
THE FORD EXPLORER WAS HIT ON THE FREEWAY IN THE FRONT RIGHT SECTION WHICH PUSHED THE CAR LEFT THE CAR WAS THEN BROADSIDED BY ANOTHER CAR AND THE FRONT DRIVER SIDED DOOR FLEW OPEN IT WAS FORTUNATE THAT MY SON HAD ON HIS SEATBELT SO HE WOULD NOT BE THROWN FORM THE CAR, BUT WITH THE DOOR FLYING OPEN HIS ARM, LEG OR HEAD COULD HAVE BEEN SEVERILY DAMAGED IF IT HAD BEEN IN THE WAY WHEN THE DOOR FLOEW BACK TO CLOSE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY EITHER, IT SEEMS THAT THEY WOULD HAVE SINCE THE BOTH HITS WERE AT SPEEDS OF APPROX. 55 MPH. *AK
AIRBAG LIGHT HAS COME ON, NOT TAKEN TO DEALER YET.*AK
O/D LIGHT FLASHES AFTER 15 MIN. OF RUNNING VEHICLE. TRANSMISSION THEN SHIFTS HARD UP AND DOWN. FORD SERVICE SAYS THEY CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG.*AK
DURING A SPIN OUT AT HIGHWAY SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH IN RAINY CONDITIONS, A 1998 FORD EXPLORER IMPACTED A CONCRETE DIVIDER ON THE RIGHT FRONT FENDER, FOLLOWED BY THE RIGHT REAR QUARTER PANEL. THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP AND TIPPED OVER ONTO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. BOTH AIRBAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. NO MAINTENANCE HAS EVER BEEN DONE ON THE AIRBAG SYSTEM, NOR HAS THERE BEEN A RECALL.*AK
I HAVE HAD FOUR TIRE SEPARATIONS ON THIS SAME EXPLORER. TWO WERE ON THE ATXII 235/75R15 - BOTH VDHL FROM DECANTUR, IL PLANT. THE COMPANY (AFTER MUCH HASSLE) REPLACED THEM WITH THE FIREHAWK R45 ALSO VD DOT NUMBERS INDICATING THEY ARE FROM THE SAME PLANT. BOTH BLOWOUTS CAUSED OVER $1000 WORTH OF DAMAGE TO MY VECHICLE. THIS LAST TIME, I HAD TO PAY $350 FOR NEW TIRES. I SUSPECTED SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE ATX LONG BEFORE THE RECALL (AUG. 3, 1997 WAS THE FIRST BLOWOUT, JUNE 9, 1998 WAS THE SECOND). NOW I SUSPECT SOMETHING MUST EITHER BE WRONG WITH THE FIREHAWKR45, OR THE FORD SUSPENSION SYSTEM. POWER DOOR LOCKS ARE NOT WORKING, THEREFORE THE DOORS DO NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE. THIS COULD BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS IF TRAPPED INSIDE. SHOULDN'T THEY ALWAYS OPEN MANUALLY? ISN'T THERE A LAW PROVIDING SAFETY FOR DOOR LOCKS?
THE DEALER IS BEEN INFORMING THAT THEY ARE WORKING ON FUEL GUAGE PROBLEM FOR ALMOST 1 YEAR AND REPLACED THE ASSEMBLY IN THE FUEL TANK AND CONTACTED FORD SEVERAL TIMES. I ALSO CONTACTED THEM AND SPOKE TO SHAWN @ 1-800-392-3673 EXTN: 3066. HE TOLD ME FORD WILL CONTACT ME, BUT, FAILED TO CONTACT. ABS PROBLEM CAME RECENTLY. DEALER REAPLACED A PART, BUT, DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. AS PER THE DEALER THE FORD MOTORS ARE AWARE OF THE FUEL GUAGE PROBLEM FROM THE BEGINING BUT, FAILED TO COME UP WITH A RECOMMENDATION.
VEHICLE STALLS WHEN WEATHER IS HOT. RPM GOES BELOW 500 AND WILL STALL. DEALER SAYS THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS WRONG, HOWEVER ON NUMEROUS INTERNET SITES HAVE FOUND INFORMATION RELATING TO A FAULTY IGNITION DEVICE. THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR OVER A YEAR, DEALER SAID HAD TO BRING VEHICLE IN WHEN PROBLEM WAS OCCURRING. VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY IN SERVICE DEPARTMENT. STILL NO ANSWER AND CANNOT FIND OUT IF THE RECALL IS BEING ENFORCED.*AK
DRIVER'S SIDE EMERGENCY BRAKE LINE IS TOO LONG , ABOUT 6-8 INCHES LONGER, AND IT RUBS AGAINST AND WEARS INTO LEFT REAR TIRE, ALMOST INTO SIDEWALL. THIS COULD CAUSE AN UNEXCEPTED BLOWOUT WITHOUT WARNING, AND COULD RESULT IN A CRASH. IT WAS RUBBING SO BADLY AGAINST TIRE THAT IT HAS BEGUN TO WEAR OFF NAME OFF TIRE.PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK CONSUMER STATES CABLE APPEARS TO BE TO LONG AND THE PLASTIC CLIP THAT IS SUPPOSE TO HOLD THECABLE AWAY FROM THE TIRE CAN SLIP DOWN AND ALLOW THE SITUATION TO OCCUR, THE TIRE HAD WORN THROUGH THE VINYL PROTECTIVE COATING OF THE CABLE IT ALSO WORE THROUGH THE VINYL CABLE COATING AND HAD BEGUN TO WEAR AWAY THE INSIDE SIDEWALL OF THE LEFT REAR TIRE. *JB
BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR PEDAL TOO CLOSE TOGETHER. DURING AN EMERGENCY STOP, BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED TO ITS LIMIT. DUE TO THE SPACING BETWEEN THE BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR ALONG WITH THE HEIGHT OF ACCELERATOR PEDAL, BOTH WERE DEPRESSED AT ONCE CAUSING A SUBSTANTIAL INCREASE IN THE STOPPING DISTANCE. THIS IN TURN WAS THE MAIN REASON FOR A RECENT COLLISION AND SEVERAL PAST NEAR MISSED ACCIDENTS DURING EMERGENCY BRAKING. WIPER CONTROL ARM AND FLUID DISPENSER DOES NOT WORK ON OCCASION. THIS PART HAS BEEN REPLACED ONCE IN THE PAST UNDER WARRANTEE. SECOND PART IS ACTING THE SAME AS THE FIRST.
WHILE DRIVING CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD BANG, APPLIED BRAKES, AND PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR, AND NO BRAKING ACTION. USED EMERGENCY BRAKE TO SLOW VEHICLE DOWN. DEALER FOUND 2 BOLTS THAT HOLD BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER TO BOOSTER HAD SHEARED OFF.*AK
3-4 HOURS AFTER DRIVING VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE IN ENGINE BLOCK, FIRE MARSHALL THOUGHT FIRE STARTED IN ENGINE COOLING FAN. VEHICLE STILL AT DEALER AT THIS TIME. *AK
STICKING THROTTLE BODY, CAUSES GAS PEDAL TO STICK AFTER PARK. IDENTICAL TO FORD RECALL OF SOHC ENGINE, HOWEVER FORD RECALL DOES NOT COVER THIS ENGINE (4.0L PUSH ROD V6). STICKING PEDAL CURED BY REPLACING DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY. FORD WILL NOT RECALL THROTTLE BODY FOR THIS ENGINE. STICKING PEDAL CAUSED "SUDDEN ACCELERATION" FROM STOP, RESULTING IN CLOSE CALL BACKING INTO SHOPPING CENTER STORE FRONT. FORD SHOULD RECALL THIS DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY, ALL SERVICES HAVE BEEN PERFORMED SINCE NEW AT FORD DEALER. THROTTLE BODY WAS CLEANED BY DEALER IN DECEMBER 2000.*AK
FUEL PUMP WAS BEING REPLACED. TOWNSEND FORD PERFORMED THE JOB. TECH BROKE CHEAP PLASTIC CLIP REQUIRING FUEL FILLER NECK TO BE REPLACED. IT'S DEFECTIVE. WILL NOT SEAL. GAS VAPOR LEAK. CHECK ENGINE STAYS ON. FORD HAS PROBLEM WITH SUPPLIER. NONE IN COUNTRY TOLD TO ME ABOUT A COUPLE MONTHS AGO. STILL NONE NOW. GAS VAPOR LEAK IS HEALTH HAZARD AND UNSAFE IN MY OPINION. THEY KEEP BLOWING ME OFF ON RESOLUTION. CAN YOU HELP? -THANKS-*AK
CONSUMER'S SON WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH WHEN CAR SLIPPED SIDEWAYS ON WET ROADS FOR 20 FEET. VEHICLE STRAIGTENED OUT, AND WAS HEADED TOWARDS A UTILITY POLE. SON ATTEMPTED TO APPLY BRAKES TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. BRAKES WOULD NOT ENGAGE, AND VEHICLE WENT INTO A POLE. NEW BRAKES PADS WERE PUT ON VEHICLE IN JANUARY OF 2000. DEALERSHIP HAS NOT EXAMINED VEHICLE. *AK
ACCELERATOR PEDAL GOT STUCK FOR 4TH TIME. PROBLEM STATED A YEAR IN A HALF AGO. CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING 60MPH AND ACCELERATOR PEDAL GOT STUCK. CONSUMER TRIED BRAKES, ALMOST STANDING WITH BOTH FEET ON THEM, AND THEY WOULDN'T WORK. CONSUMER PRESSED DOWN ON ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO SEE IF SHE COULD GET IT UNSTUCK AND ACCELERATOR PEDAL LIFTED AND BECAME NORMAL. CONSUMER IS CURRENTLY INSISTING THAT FORD TAKE A LOOK AT PROBLEM. DEALER IS TELLING CONSUMER THAT SHE NEEDS TO BUY A NEW VEHICLE. OFFICE OF CHAIRMAN OF BOARD IS WHO THE CONSUMER IS DEALING WITH IT CURRENTLY. *AK

CONSUMER HAD FOUND A SAFETY NOTICE FROM MANUFACTURER THAT VEHICLE MAY BE AFFECTED WITH SWAY BAR PROBLEM. CONSUMER HAD EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM WHEN DRIVING OVER A POTHOLE, COULD FEEL VEHICLE WANDERING SIDE TO SIDE. THEN, HAD TAKEN VEHICLE FOR CHECK UP, AND DEALER TOLD CONSUMER THAT VEHICLE COULD NOT BE TAKEN CARE UNDER RECALL BECAUSE THEY FOUND OUT THAT VEHICLE HAD BEEN INVOLVED IN A WRECK. *AK DEALER SENT CONSUMER REIMBURSEMENT. *SLC

AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY IN ACCIDENT. STOPPED AT TRAFFIC LIGHT, HIT IN REAR BY CAR TRAVELING AT ABOUT 40 MPH, CAR PUSHED FORWARD INTO CAR IN FRONT OF ME, THIRD CAR PUSHED INTO FOURTH, FOURTH INTO FIFTH, AND FIFTH INTO SIXTH CAR. FRONT AND REAR BUMPERS DESTROYED, SIGNIFICANT FRONT AND REAR DAMAGE, AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *AK

THIS VEHICLE EXPERIENCED UNCONTROLLED (RUNAWAY) ACCELERATION AFTER DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MILES AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS IN 20 DEGREE F TEMPERATURE. UPON EXITING THE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY, I PROCEEDED THROUGH THE FIRST LIGHT (GREEN) WITH OUT NEEDING TO BRAKE OR STOP. THE SECOND (IMMEDIATE) LIGHT WAS ALSO GREEN AND I PROCEEDED THROUGH IT WITH SLIGHT ACCELERATION (NO BRAKING). THE NEXT LIGHT WAS RED WITH A LINE OF CARS WAITING TO PROCEED AND I APPLIED THE BRAKES. AT THAT POINT, THE CAR STARTED TO SLOW AND THEN BEGAN TO ACCELERATE AND WAS AT WIDE OPEN THROTTLE WITHIN A SECOND OR SO. I BRAKED AS HARD AS I COULD AND MOVED THE SHIFT LEVER TO NEUTRAL AS FAST AS POSSIBLE, BUT THE VEHICLE HAD ENOUGH MOMENTUM TO CRASH INTO THE REAR CAR IN LINE, WHICH, IN TURN CRASHED INTO THE VEHICLE AHEAD OF IT. AFTER EXPLORING THE NHTSA DATABASE AND DISCOVERING NHTSA CAMPAIGN 97V07400. MY VEHICLE, ACCORDING TO FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS NOT RECALLED UNDER THIS CAMPAIGN, ALTHOUGH THE CRITERIA DESCRIBED IN THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN SUMMARY APPEAR TO BE MET BY MY VEHICLE. NOTE: I AM VERY SURE THAT I DID NOT MISTAKENLY APPLY THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL RATHER THAN THE BRAKE PEDAL. *AK

TRANSMISSION NOT SHIFTING INTO 3RD GEAR ONCED WARMED UP. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN SERVICED BY FORD SINCE NEW AT THE DEALER IT WAS PURCHASED AT. SERVICE VERIFIED PROBLEM BUT DIDN'T KNOW WHAT CAUSED IT, SAID THEY'VE SEEN THIS 3-4 TIMES AND COULD ONLY RECOMMEND OVERHUAL OR REPLACEMENT. FLUID FOR TRANSMISSION HAD BEEN OVERFILLED WHEN SERVICED BY THEM IN FEBUARY 2000. EST COST OF REPAIR 2-3000. *AK
CONSUMER RECEIVED RECALL NOTIFICATION (00V402000) CONSUMER THEN TOOK VEHICLE TO HIS OWN PERSONAL MECHANIC WHO PERFORMED THE WORK, CONSUMER THEN TOOK THE SERVICE INVOICE AS WELL AS RECALL NOTIFICATION INTO DEALERSHIP, THE DEALERSHIP THEN INSPECTED THE VEHICLE TO VERIFY THAT THE PROPER REPAIR HAD BEEN DONE, CONSUMER WAS THEN TOLD THAT THE PAPERWORK WOULD BE PROCESSED FOR REIMBURSEMENT, BUT CONSUMER NEVER HEARD BACK FROM DEALERSHIP, CONSUMER THEN CONTACTED DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT HIS REQUEST FOR REIMBURSEMENT WAS NOT PROCESSED BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS NOT LISTED ON THE INVOICE, CONSUMER THEN WENT BACK TO HIS MECHANIC AND OBTAINED THE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION THAT WAS NEEDED, CONSUMER WAS THEN TOLD BY DEALERSHIP THAT THEY WOULD NOW PROCESS REIMBURSEMENT REQUEST BUT WAS NOT SURE IF MANUFACTURER WOULD APPROVE REQUEST EVEN WITH THE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION, CONSUMER IS SEEKING ASSISTANCE WITH REIMBURSEMENT IF DENIED. *JB
