DRIVING 70MPH WHEN STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO SHAKE. HEARD THUMPING NOISES AT THE SAME TIME. VEHICLE ALSO STARTED TO VIBRATE. WAS SLOWING DOWN & PULLED INTO WALMART. HAD A SALESPERSON IN THE TIRE SECTION LOOK AT TIRES. THE LEFT FRONT HAD TREAD ON IT, BUT COMPLETELY UNEVEN. THE TREAD STILL ON TIRES BARELY. PULLED ALL FOUR TIRES OFF VEHICLE. WHILE DRIVING THE LEFT REAR TIRE BLEWOUT WITHOUT WARNING AND THE TREAD WRAPPED AROUND THE AXLE CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE AND THE RIM, CONSUMER REQUEST REIMBURSEMENT (FIRESTONE ATX). NLM
THE FIRESTONE WILDERNESS AT TIRES WERE PURCHASED IN MARCH OF 2000. WHILE ON A TRIP THE BACK DRIVERS SIDE TIRE BLEW. IT WAS IN SHREDS WHEN WE WERE FINALLY ABLE TO STOP. NO ONE WAS INJURED AND THE FIRESTONE IN SPRINGFIELD, MO REPLACED THE TIRE AFTER CHARGING US $24 FOR MOUNTING. THAT EVENING WE SAW ON THE NEWS THAT THIS WAS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT AND FEEL LIKE THE DOT SHOULD HEAR ABOUT EVERY OCCURRENCE. WE WERE LUCKY. ON JULY 29, 2000 WE HAD A BLOWOUT ON THE DRIVERS SIDE/BACK TIRE. IT RESEMBLED AN ORANGE THAT HAD BEEN PEELED WITH THE OUTER EDGE LODGED IN THE BOTTOM OF THE EXPLORER. THE INSIDE OF THE TIRE WAS IN SHREDS. WE HAD PURCHASED THESE TIRES IN MARCH OF 2000 AND THEY HAD LESS THAN 3000 MILES ON THEM. FIRESTONE AND FORD WILL NOT TALK TO ME BECAUSE THEY ARE P255 AND NOT P235. WE ARE LUCKY WE WERE NOT KILLED ON THE INTERSTATE WE WERE ON. COULD SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME. TWO OF MY 4 TIRES HAD TREAD SEPARATION BUT THE PROBLEM WAS CAUGHT BEFORE TOTAL FAILURE OCCURRED. TIRE REPLACEMENT HAPPENED 2 DAYS BEFORE THE RECALL WAS FIRST ANNOUNCED. MY FAMILY AND I WERE LUCKY NOT TO BE VICTIMS BUT WE STILL EXPERIENCED THE FAILURES. BOTH FORD AND FIRESTONE REFUSE TO REIMBURSE ME FOR ANY PART OF MY REPLACEMENT COSTS. I HAVE OTHER DOCUMENTATION AND A LETTER THAT I WILL GLADLY SHARE IF CONTACTED. CONSUMER SON'S TIRES BEGAN TO LOSE TREAD AFTER RIDING FOR APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTES AFTER PUTTING AIR IN TIRES. THEN, TREAD PEELED OFF.*AK
I HAVE HAD TWO TIRE SEPARATIONS ON MY FIRESTONE ATX II TIRES WITHIN APPROXIMATELY 60 DAYS. THE TIRES WERE REPLACEMENT TIRES PURCHASED IN PAIRS (AT DIFFERENT TIMES). WE WERE RETURNING FROM CALIF. WHEN MY RIGHT FRONT TIRE SEPARATED, WHICH MADE MY VEHICLE PULL SHARPLY TO THE LEFT. WHEN THAT HAPPENED IT TORE THE MOLDING OFF MY WHEEL WELL, AND THE RUNNING BOARD, ALSO INFLICTING DAMAGE THE BODY AS WELL. WHEN IT SEPARATED IT SCARED THE HECK OUT OF MY 11 YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER AND HER FRIEND. WE WERE JUST LUCKY THIS TIME. SINCE THEN 3 DEALERSHIPS 2 BEING FIRESTONE NOTICED MY REMAINING 3 TIRES WERE BEGINNING TO SEPARATE AND SHOULD BE REPLACED IMMEDIATLY, WHICH I DID RELUCTANTLY WITH BRIDGESTONE. TREAD CAME OFF OF TIRE AFTER CAR BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY ON HIGHWAY. THE CAR WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 60 MILES AN HOUR WHEN THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED. THE TEMPERATURE WAS ABOUT 90 DEGREES AND WE HAD BEEN DRIVING FOR 3 1/2 HOURS. THE SHAKING OF THE CAR BEGAN SLOWLY WHEN THE CAR REACHED 65 MILES PER HOUR AND OVER A DISTANCE OF 60 MILES THE SHAKING INCREASED DRAMATICALLY UNTIL THE TIRE BLEW. THE TIRE WAS COMPLETELY SHREADED. BOTH BACK TIRES WERE REPLACED AND A FREE FIRESTONE INSPECTION HAS BEEN PERFORMED ON THE ORIGINAL FRONT TWO TIRES.( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: P235/75R15 )
TRAVELING OFF SANIBEL ISLAND AND ACCELERATING TO 50 MPH, I HEARD A LOUD THUD AND SLAPPING AT THE REAR OF THE CAR AS IF I HAD RUN OVER SOMETHING. I PULLED TO THE SIDE AND DISCOVERED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE HAD SHREADED. THE TIRE WAS STILL INFLATED BUT THE TREAD HAD SEPARATED, TEARING OFF THE REAR WHEEL GUARD AND THE DRIVER'S SIDE RUNNING BOARD. THE DRIVER'S REAR SIDE WAS ALSO DENTED. SINCE I HAD JUST ACCELERATED TO 50, I DID NOT LOSE CONTROL OF THE CAR AND NO OTHER VEHICLES WERE HIT BY THE FLYING DEBRIS. WE CHANGED THE TIRE AND DROVE TO THE NEAREST FIRESTONE DEALER TO REPLACE THAT TIRE AND THE OTHER REAR TIRE. THEY DID NOT INFORM US OF EXISTING PROBLEMS WITH THE ATX AND SOLD US TWO NEW ATX TIRES. AFTER WE ARRIVED AT OUR DESTINATION -- WHICH WAS A FAMILY REUNION OUT OF TOWN -- WE DISCOVERED THE PROBLEMS WITH ACCIDENTS RELATED TO FIRESTONE TIRE TREAD SEPARATION WHICH HAD RESULTED IN ACCIDENTS AND EVEN FATALITIES. UPON RETURN HOME WE WENT TO THE FIRESTONE STORE AND THEY TOOK THE TWO ATX TIRES BACK AND REPLACED THEM WITH BRIDGESTONES. THE BODY DAMAGE ESTIMATE IS $1,100. WE STILL HAVE TWO FRONT ATX TIRES AND A SPARE AND ARE WAITING TO SEE IF A RECALL IS PUT IN PLACE FOR THOSE.( DOT NUMBER: )

CONSUMER WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN SHE HEARD A POP, AND LOST CONTROL, HITTING THE GUARDRAIL/ CONCRETE WALL. VEHICLE WAS TOTALLED. AFTER SHE CAME TO A STOP, THE POLICE STATED THAT TREAD WAS COMING OFF FROM THE TIRE.*AK

WHILE POSITIONING MY SUV WITH INTENTION TO BACK UP, AS SOON AS I SHIFT LEVER IN GOT THE THE REVERSE MODE, THE SUV ACCELLERATED WILDLY, AND PLUNGED AHEAD UNTROLLABLE UNTIL IT SMASHED INTO A BACK OF THE CLOCK STORE BACK LOADING AREA, AND PULLED DOWN A WALL, AND CEILING AND SMASHED ITS SELF UNTIL IT WAS STOPPED BY THE ENORMOUS IMPACT.. IT DESTROVED MUCH OF THE BUILDING, AND ANTIQUE GRANDFATHER CLOCKS, AS WELL AS DAMAGE TO ANOTHER OLD PRISTINE LASALLE AUTOMOBILE.... SEATS WERE FLATTENED IN THE SUV, AND GLASS WAS BROKEN EVERY WHERE. *AK

PURCHASED VEHICLE ON 3/10/2000 MILEAGE ON VEHICLE 37,410. ON MAY 21, 2000 WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY 99 AT APPROXIMATELY 67-70 MPH AT APPROXIMATELY 1:30 IN THE AFTERNOON MY FRONT TIRE SHRED. THIS RESULTED IN APPROX 1,700 WORTH OF DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE. ON JULY 20 WHILE TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY 152 AT APPROXIMATELY 65-67 MPH THE REAR TIRE SHRED, RESULTING IN LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND ULTIMATELY OUR VEHICLE ROLLING OVER. BOTH OF THESE TIRES WERE FIRESTONE FR480'S. MY LAWYER IS RETAINING THE VEHICLE AT THIS TIME AND IT STILL HAS TWO OF THESE DEFECTIVE TIRES ON IT. WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE BLEW OUT <SHREDDED ACTUALLY>. I LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE, SWERVED TO THE LEFT AND SIDESWIPED A VEHICLE IN THE LANE NEXT TO ME. I PULLED TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER. I SAW THAT THE TIRE TREAD HAD SEPERATED FROM THE TIRE, AND POUNDED THE WHEEL WELL FLAT. I INCURRED DAMAGE TO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE AS WELL. THIS IS THE 6TH TIRE THAT THE TREAD HAS PEELED OFF. THE FIRST FEW TIMES IT WAS THE MANUFACTURER'S ORIGINALS. I AM REPORTING THIS ONE BECAUSE IT CAUSED SEVERE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. I WENT TO THE TIRE STORE TO HAVE MY TIRES ROTATED. THE MECHANIC SHOWED ME TWO OF MY FIRESTONE ATX RADIALS WITH THE TREAD SEPARATING FROM THE REST OF THE TIRE. THESE TIRES SHOWED VERY LITTLE WEAR AND SHOWED NO OTHER OBVIOUS DAMAGE. I WANTED TO INFORM YOU OF THIS DEFECT TO HELP POINT OUT A QUESTIONABLE TIRE DESIGN. ON JULY 13, MY FAMILY AND I WERE TRAVELING FROM YUMA, AZ TO SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA. OUR RIGHT FRONT TIRE'S TREAD CAME AWAY FROM THE REST OF THE TIRE WHILE WE WERE GOING 70 MILES AN HOUR. THESE TIRES WERE INSPECTED BY ALEXANDER FORD IN YUMA AZ IN APRIL AND DETERMINED TO BE FINE. FIRESTONE ATX 235/75R15 THE INSURED WAS SOUTHBOUND ON HWY 183 APPROX 1.4 MILES SOUTH OF LULING IN GONZALES COUNTY. SHE HEARD A LOUD POP AND HER LEFT REAR TIRE LOST TREAD. HER RIGHT REAR WHEEL THEN CAME OFF THE VEHICLE AND SHE LOST CONTROL AND THE FORD EXPLORER ROLLED SEVERAL TIMES. A PASSERBY PULLED HER FROM THE EXPLORER JUST PRIOR TO IT CATCHING FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALLY CONSUMED IN THE ENSUING FIRE. EXPLORER LOST TREAD ON LEFT REAR TIRE, IT ROLLED, THEN CAUGHT FIRE, TOTAL BURNCONSUMING THE TIRES.
