VEHICLE EXPERIENCES VIBRATION AND SLIGHT DRIFT TO THE RIGHT AROUND 65 MPH. ROTATED TIRES EVERY 5000 MILES, HOWEVER INSIDE OF FRONT TIRES EXPERIENCE SEVERE CUPPING. AT 35000 MILE SERVICE, BROUGHT TO BANKSTON FORD (FRISCO TX) FOR MAINTENANCE. TIRES ROTATED, BUT NOTHING NOTED ON SERVICE REPORT ABOUT SEVERE CUPPING ON INSIDE OF TIRES BY BANKSTON. GREW FRUSTRATED WITH LACK OF SERVICE AND DISREGARD FOR SAFETY, TOOK TO GOODYEAR DEALER. TIRES WERE WORN TO THE 2ND LAYER AND NEAR FAILURE, AND SHOWN TO ME BY TECH. REPLACE WITH GOODYEARS & HAD ALIGNMENT CHECKED, NEEDED SLIGHT TOE IN ADJUSTMENT. PE00 020; CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 55MPH ON HIGHWAY, HE DIDN'T HEAR A NOISE, BUT LEFT REAR TIRE TREAD SEPARATED. TIRE WAS A FIRESTONE, WILDERNESS#AT, P23575R15. THEN, TWO DAYS LATER RIGHT REAR TIRE WENT FLAT IN FRONT OF CONSUMER'S HOME. HE TOOK THE TIRE TO FIRESTONE. THE ATTENDANT TOLD HIM THAT TIRE COULD NOT BE REPAIRED AT THAT TIME. *AK

PE00020, 1998; FORD, EXPLORER, TIRE 25570R16, DOT W2CU1PX168; ALL FOUR TIRES HAD STRESS CRACKS ALONG THE INNER PART OF THE TREAD. TOOK OFF THE TIRES. *AK ALL FOUR TIRES WERE REPLACED. *YH
ALL TIRES ARE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT AND ARE DEVELOPING CRACKS ALONG THE ENTIRE OUTSIDE CIRCUMFERENCE OF THE SIDEWALL OF THE TIRE WHERE IT MEETS THE TREAD. THESE CRACKS HAVE CONTINUED TO ENLARGE AND TWO SEPARATE TIRE DEALERS IN MY HOME AREA HAVE OBSERVED THE TIRES AND STATED THAT THEY ARE SEPARATING AND SHOULD NOT BE DRIVEN ON. I HAVE ADVISED FORD VIA A LOCAL DEALER AND VIA E-MAIL TO THE MAIN HEADQUARTERS AND HAVE HAD NO SATISFACTION. THESE TIRES ARE KEPT AT A 32 PSI MINIMUM AND ARE EVEN REMOVED IN THE WINTER MONTHS. I WOULD THINK THAT SOMEONE FROM FIRESTONE WOULD WANT TO VIEW THESE BEFORE THEY COMPLETELY SEPERATE AND THEY MAY HOLD A BETTER CLUE AS TO THE SEPERATION PROBLEM THAT IS TAKING PLACE. THESE TIRES ARE FALITY . THEY HAVE 40000 MILES ON THEM AND HAVE BEEN ROTATED EVERY 5000 MILES. THE TIRES HAVE BEEN MAKING A WHOOPING SOUND FOR A LONG TIME. IT SOUNDS LIKE THE TIRERS ARE SEPERATING FROM THE TREAD. I HAVE BEEN TO THE FORD DEALER IN NILES MI, AND THE FIRERSTONE CORP. STORE IN SOUTH BEND INDIANA . EXPERT TIRE PHONE # 219-288-7800. THEY AGREE THAT THERE IS A MAJOR PROM WITH THE TIRES. HOWEVER, THEY CAN NOT REPLACE THEM. THEY SAID THAT THERE NOT ON THE RECALL. I NEED HEIP. PLEASE. I THINK THE REPLACEMENT COST IS OVER $500. THE TIRE SHOWS A CRACK ON THE SIDEWALL COMPLETELY AROUND THE TIRE WHERE THE TREAD MEETS THE TIRE SIDE WALL. THESE TIRES DO NOT HAVE THE SAME DOT NUMBERS AS THE TIRES ADVERTISED AS BEING DEFECTIVE OR THOSE LISTED ON YOUR WEBSITE. THE TIRES ON MY CAR CLEARLY HAVE THIS PROBLEM. WHILE EXIT PARKING, HIT ON CURB WITH LOW MPH. TIRE FAILED AT CLOSE TO RIM CREATED A 1/2 INCH SLIT. THE INITIAL HIT POINT IS MORE TOWARDS THE FRONT WHEEL IS NOT DEMAGED BUT HAVE BLACK MARK NEXT TO THE TIRE RUPTURE. DRIVING SOUTH ON I-40, SOUTH OF KINGMAN, AZ. SPEED WAS 70MPH. (POSTED SPEED LIMIT IS 75MPH) RIDE WAS UNUSALLY ROUGH. VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE AND CONTROL WAS DIFFICULT. LOUD NOISES FROM THE FRONT LEFT WHEEL SECTION. I PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER AND EXAMINED THE PROBLEM. TIRE RETAINED AIR PRESSURE. TIRE FAILED TO RETAIN TREAD. TREAD WAS RETRIEVED FROM THE INTERSTATE AND IS IN MY POSSESSION. BOTH FIRESTONE AND FORD WERE SORRY, HOWEVER THE TIRE(S) WERE NOT PART OF THE RECALL. FORD WAS TIED BY POLICY. FIRESTONE WILL PRO-RATE THE TIRE. FIRESTONE IS SENDING OUT "CLAIM INFORMATION" FOR DAMAGE DONE TO VEHICLE. THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT NO ONE WAS HURT. CONSUMER REPLACED ALL FOUR FIRESTONE TIRES ON THE VEHICLE DUE TO TREAD SEPARATION, AT THE TIME OF REPLACEMENT THE TIRES WERE NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THEM, HOWEVER CONSUMER IS REQUESTING REIMBURSEMENT AND FEELS THEY MAY BE INCLUDED IN THE SUBSEQUENT RECALL (00T-005). *MJS

I AM CURRENTLY LEASING AN EXPLORER WITH WILDERNESS AT TIRES THAT WERE NOT PART OF THE RECALL. HOWEVER, I HAVE A WILDERNESS AT TIRE THAT IS SHOWING SIGNS OF TREAD SEPARATION (AN EMPLOYEE OF FIRESTONE AGREED THAT THIS TIRE IS FAILING JUST LIKE THE RECALLED TIRES). MY FORD DEALER WILL NOT REPLACE THE TIRES BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT PART OF THE RECALL AND FIRESTONE WILL ONLY REPLACE THEM WITH FIRESTONE TIRES, WHICH I DON'T WANT FOR OBVIOUS REASONS. HOW CAN THEY ONLY RECALL WILDERNESS TIRES MADE FROM THEIR DECATUR, IL PLANT? ARE WE TO ASSUME THAT THESE TIRES ARE MADE DIFFERENTLY AT THEIR OTHER PLANTS? IF SO, WHY ARE MY TIRES FAILING THE EXACT SAME WAY? WHAT MAKES ME REALLY UPSET IS THE FACT THAT THEY INSIST THAT THE TIRES ARE SAFE AND THAT IT IS THE TIRE OWNERS' FAULT FOR THE TIRES FAILURES. THEY REFUSE TO TAKE THE BLAME. I ROTATE MY TIRES AND HAVE THE PRESSURE CHECKED WITH EVERY OIL CHANGE (EVERY 3000 MILES) AND STILL MY TIRES ARE FAILING. IF THE FAULT WAS THE TIRE OWNERS FAULT, THEN WOULDN'T YOU SEE THE SAME TYPE OF STATISTICS FROM GOODYEAR TIRES AND MICHELIN TIRES? ARE WE ASSUME THAT FIRESTONE TIRE OWNERS TAKE SIGNIFICANTLY LESS CARE OF THEIR TIRES THAN OTHER TIRE OWNERS? THE NHTSA NEEDS TO STEP IN AND PROTECT THE PEOPLE BY FORCING FIRESTONE TO RECALL ALL WILDERNESS AT TIRES -- NOT JUST THE ONES FIRESTONE WANTS TO. EVEN IF 80% OF THE WILDERNESS AT FAILURES WERE FROM TIRES MADE FROM THE IL PLANT, DOES THAT MEAN WE SHOULD RECALL THOSE TIRES ONLY? WHAT ABOUT THE OTHER 20% (WHERE I OBVIOUSLY FALL)? DON'T THEIR (MY) LIVES MATTER AS WELL? FIRESTONE SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO HANDLE THIS SITUATION THE WAY THEY WANT TO. THE NHTSA NEEDS TO TAKE CHARGE, SAVE PEOPLE, AND MAKE FIRESTONE TAKE THE BLAME INSTEAD OF PUSHING ONTO ITS TIRE OWNERS.
