WHILE IN MOTION, THE COMPLETE ACCELERATOR UNIT DETACHED ITSELF FROM THE FIREWALL INNER BODY OF THE VEHICLE. WHEN VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE FORD DEALER THEY COULD NOT REPAIR VEHICLE. VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO ANOTHER REPAIR FACILITY, THEY INFORMED CONSUMER THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS HAPPEN NOR HAVE THEY EVER REPAIRED A JOB IN THIS MANNER. WHEN THE DETACHMENT TOOK PLACE IT LEFT CONSUMER WITHOUT CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. CONSUMER IS ASKING FOR ASSISTANCE IN RESOLVING THIS MATTER. *JG
WHEN PUTTING ON TURN SIGNAL SIGNAL STARTED TO SMOKE AND CAUGHT ON FIRE. CONTACTED DEALER, AND THE DEALER WAS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, DRIVER'S SEATBACK REST COLLAPSED COMPLETELY BACKWARD. DEALER NOTIFED AND NOTICE THAT BOLT WAS SHEARING OFF. *AK CONSUMER ADDS SEAT BOLTS SNAPPED IN HALF CAUSING SEAT BACK TO COLLAPSE AND DRIVERS HANDS WENT OFF THE STEERING WHEEL AND FOOT HIT THE GAS PEDAL CAUSING VEHICLE TO BE OUT OF CONTROL. *TT
ONGOING ENGINE STALLING PROBLEM WHILE DRIVING/ SLOWING DOWN, AND ACCELERATING FROM A STOP POSITION. DEALER CONTACTED. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
THE BIGGEST PROBLEM I HAVE NOW IS MY TRANSMISSION, ON AUGUST 1ST, MY EXPLORER LOST ITS REVERSE, IT IS NOW AUGUST 25, AND I STILL DO NOT HAVE MY CAR, THEY FIXED IT ON AUG 20, IT BROKE THAT NIGHT, TOOK IT BACK AUG 22, BROKE AGAIN AND THEN TOOK IT BACK THAT NIGHT AND NOW THEY STILL HAVE IT AND DONT KNOW WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT. I TOLD THEM ALL I WANT IS A CAR, BUT THEY SAY THEY CANNOT GIVE ME ONE. WHY? I DONT HAVE A CAR, I LEASE THE ONE I HAVE, CANT DRIVE IT, STILL HAVE TO PAY FOR IT, AND THEY WONT GIVE ME A LOANER.
I STARTED MY VEHICLE AND WHEN I STARTED TO MOVE NOTICED THAT THE TRANSFER CASE WAS IN 4 WHEEL DRIVE, LOW RANGE. I DID NOT PUT IT IN 4WD, I DO NOT KNOW WHY IT WAS ENGAGED. I ATTEMPTED TO RETURN IT TO 2WD AND NOTHING HAPPENED. I WAS FORCED TO DRIVE IT AT 10 MPH TO A GARAGE. THEY WERE ABLE TO GET THE TRANSFER CASE OUT OF 4WD LOW, AND INTO 4WD HIGH RANGE SO I COULD DRIVE IT ON THE ROAD. THEY ALSO PROVIDED ME WITH NHTSA RECALL INFORMATION ON THE GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE AS IT RELATES TO ELECTRICALLY OPERATED 4WD SYSTEMS. THE CAMPAIGN NUMBER IS 00V072000. WHEN I CHECKED WITH FORD THEY SAID THE RECALL DOESN'T COVER MY VEHICLE, EVEN THOUGH EXHIBITS SYMPTOMS OF THE PROBLEM SPECIFIED IN THE RECALL, AND MATCHES ALL OF THE CRITERIA IN THE RECALL I.E., MAKE, MODEL, YEAR, ENGINE, TRANSMISSION, AND DATE OF MANUFACTURE. I AM WONDERING WHY MY VEHICLE ISN'T INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL, AND WHAT I CAN DO TO GET IT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT SPEED LIMIT OF 45 MPH BOTTOM BOLT THAT HOLDS DRIVERS SEAT BROKE, CAUSING THE SEAT TO FOLD BACK. CONSUMER HAD BARELY SURVIVED THIS INCIDENT.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT. I WAS ABLE TO STOP SAFELY ONLY BY OTHER VEHICLE LIGHTS. POSSIBLE PROBLEM WITH AUTO LAMP SWITCH IN VEHICLE. AFTER VEHICLE SAT FOR A WHILE LIGHTS CAME BACK ON. VERY DIFFICULT TO FIND DASH SWITCH AND TURN ON LIGHTS WHILE DRIVING IN THE DARK AT 65 MPH. MR
CONSUMER STATES THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS SET TO 60 MPH, NEITHER THE BRAKES NOR OFF BUTTON WOULD DISENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL, VEHICLE ACCELERATED SUDDENLY CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THE ACCELERATOR CABLE HAD DISCONNECTED AT THE THROTTLE. *YD
WHEN APPLYING ACCELERATOR PEDAL VEHICLE WILL HESITATE BRIEFLY BEFORE THROTTLE RESPONDS.*AK
THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS (FRONT) INTERMITTENTLY HAVE NOT BEEN WORKING FOR 2 YEARS. WE HAVE TAKEN THE EXPLORER IN 5 TIMES TO HAV THIS PROBLEM FIXED, BUT THEY STILL AREN'T WORKING PERIODICALLY. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SAFETY ISSUE, ESPECIALLY WHEN ON THE HIGHWAY AND A SUDDEN RAINSTORM OCCURS. SOMEONE CAN BE FATALLY INJURED WITH WIPERS THAT ONLY WORK WHEN THEY FEEL LIKE IT!*AK
THE METAL IS CRACKING AROUND THE HINGE LOCATED ON THE REAR HATCH DOOR. THE DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. *JB *TT
VEHICLE HAD 4 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILURES. THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED FOUR TIMES UNDER WARRANTY. ALSO WHEN THE VEHICLE IS HOT, THE TRANSMISSION DOES NOT SHIFT POSITIVELY FROM LOW TO INTERMEDIATE. *JG
WHILE DRIVING DRIVER'S SEAT FELL BACK. DEALER DETERMINED IT BROKE AT SEAT BOTTOM. *AK
WHILE DRIVING WINDSHIELD WIPERS WOULD COME ON INTERMITTENTLY WHILE SWITCH IS STILL OFF. DEALER NOTIFIED. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
THE CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN A ROLLOVER ACCIDENT. THE CONSUMER SUSTAINED INJURIES AND BELIEVES THE INJURIES WERE AS A RESULT OF THE SEATBELT NOT LOCKING. *NLM *NLM
WHILE AT A RED LIGHT AND AT A COMPLETE STOP, WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING VEHICLE ACCELERATED FORWARD INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. *AK *YH
VEHICLE HAS MAJOR VIBRATION THROUGHOUT BODY WHEN IT IS IDLING. RPMS FLUCTUATE UP AND DOWN BETWEEN 1600 AND 2300. DEALER ADDED AN EXTRA BRACKET TO EXHAUST SYSTEM TO HELP STOP VIBRATION. VEHICLE WOULD ONLY REV HARD WHEN IT WAS FIRST STARTED UP. VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL 00V395000/ MANUFACTURER'S RECALL 00546, BUT IT WAS UPGRADED ACCORDINGLY TO HELP CORRECT THE PROBLEM BEFORE IT GOT WORSE.*AK
DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT LATCH WILL NOT MOVE AT ALL. DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF PROBLEM.*AK
WHILE TRAVELING AT 25 MPH, ANOTHER DRIVER MADE AN ILLEGAL PASS OF THE RIGHT SIDE AND CLIPPED THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CONSUMER;S VEHICLE, WHICH CAUSED HER TO LOOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND SUBSEQUENTLY THE CONSUMER HIT THREE PARKED VEHICLE AND LANDED ON TOP OF THE FOURTH VEHICLE. THE SECOND ACCIDENT THE CONSUMER STATED A VEHICLE WAS COMING TOWARD HER, SO SHE SWERVED TO AVOID HITTING THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED IN A WOODEN POLE AT 25 MPH THE VEHICLE BOUNCED OFF THE POLE AND WENT BACK INTO POLE AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONSUMER SUFFERED INJURIES . *AK *JB *NLM
WHILE DRIVING THE SEATBACK BROKE, CAUSING ME TO LOSE CONTROL MOMENTARILY. I AM NOT A LARGE PERSON I AM 6'3" AND 220 LBS. I AM SURE THAT IF THERE HAD BEEN MORE VEHICLES ON THE ROAD THER WOULD HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT. I WOULD HOPE THAT YOU WOULD INTO THIS BECAUSE I THINK THAT IT WOULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT FOR SOMEONE.*AK
THE PRESSURIZED LIFT RODS WHICH HOLD THE HOOD UP FAILED SEVERAL TIMES, BUT THE FIRST TIME THE HOOD FELL AND PINNED MY FINGERS UNDER THE CLOSED HOOD. I FEEL THE COOLER AIR TEMPERATURE (45 DEGREES) CONTRIBUTED TO THE FAILURE. IT HASN'T OCCURED DURING THE WARMER TIMES OF THE YEAR.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 15MPH AND WITHOUT WARNING FRONT TIRE COLLAPSED. MECHANIC STATED THAT UPPER BALL JOINT WAS MISSING A NUT WHICH CAUSED BRAND NEW TIRE TO COLLAPSE.*AK DEALER REPLACED BROKEN RIGHT LOWER BALL JOINT, BRAKE HOSE, WHEEL SPEED SENSOR AND RACK/PINION UNIT. *YD
NOISE IS COMING FROM THE DIFFERENTIAL WHILE DRIVING. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. *AK THE CONSUMER FEELS THAT THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW IN THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL UNIT. THE UNIT SHOULD NOT HAVE FAILED SO EARLY IN THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE AND AFTER BEING USED ONLY SPARINGLY. THE NOISE STILL CAN BE HEARD EVEN AFTER THE REPAIRS. *SCC

BRAKE LIGHTS REMAIN ILLUMINATED AFTER VEHICLE HAS BEEN SHUT OFF, DEALER HAS YET TO BE CONTACTED, PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS CONSUMER LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE. DEALER WAS CONTACTED, AND STATED BALL JOINTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *AK
WHILE BACKING OUT OF A DRIVEWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH A BOLT IN DRIVERS SEAT UNEXPECTEDLY BROKE AND CAUSED SEATBACK TO FALL INTO SECOND ROW OF SEATS. AS A RESULT, DRIVER'S FOOT HIT ACCELERATOR PEDAL, INCREASING SPEED OF VEHICLE, AND LOST CONTROL. VEHICLE TRAVELED AN ESTIMATED DISTANCE OF 50-60 FEET BEFORE CRASHING INTO A TREE. DRIVER RECEIVED MINOR HEAD AND SHOULDER INJURIES. VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN EXAMINED BY THE DEALERSHIP. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION / DOCUMENTATION. WHILE DRIVING 40MPH, FRONT RIGHT TIRE BLEWOUT, CAUSING CONSUMER TO LOSE CONTROL OF VEHICLE. TIRE SIZE AND DOT# UNAVAILABLE. 1999, FORD, EXPLORER.*AK *TT
THE STEERING COLUMN STARTED SMOKING AS I USED THE BLINKER. THE LOCAL FORD SERVICE SAYS THAT THE "CLOCK SPRING" IN THE AIR BAG CAUGHT FIRE AND DAMAGED THE STEERING COLUMN AND POSSIBLY THE AIR BAG. THIS IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AS IT IS A SAFTY DEVICE.
TRUCK WOULD START, BUT WOULD NOT IDLE. TOWED TO DEALER. IDLE AIR CONTROLLER REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY.*AK
LIFTGATE LOOSE, IS ABOUT TO FALL OFF. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. PH. *AK
WHILE DRIVING, THROTTLE/ AIR BYPASS VALVE MALFUNCTIONS WHICH CAUSES ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO STICK, AND PEDAL GOES NEARLY TO THE FLOOR. ALSO PEDAL HAS TO BE PUMPED BEFORE IT RELEASES. *AK THE DEALER SAID THEY CAN FIX THE PROBLEM, BUT THE VEHICLE STILL HESITATES AND THERE IS ROUGH IDLE, THE LOWER BALL JOINTS FAILED, AND WERE REPLACED.*YH
I WAS IN A SINGLE CAR ACCIDENT AND MY CAR ALMOST ROLLED OVER. I HIT THE HIGHWAY RAILING AND MY CAR WAS DAMAGED PRETTY BADLY IN THE FRONT AND SIDE. THE CAR WAS NOT IN DRIVABLE CONDITION HOWEVER, NO AIRBAG CAME OUT. THREE MONTHS LATER MY AIRBAG FAILURE LIGHT UNEXPECTEDLY TURNED ON. THE LIGHT REMAINS ON.
"CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT CAME, BUT CAR APPEARED TO RUN/PERFORM NORMALLY. WHEN THE LIGHT CAME ON, I WAS LOW ON FUEL. HAD DEALER CHECK, REPORTED TAHT I NEEDED NEW FUEL PUMP, THERE WERE LEAKS AT INTAKE GASKETS & COST TO REPAIR WOULD BE ABOUT $1,200. SECOND SCAN BY ANOTHER AUTO SHOP COULD NOT GET THE SAME COMPUTER "CODES" AS DEALER. "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT WAS RESET. ON 1/24/2002, WHEN FUEL TANK WAS VERY LOW, "CHECK ENGINE" CAME ON AGAIN. NOT CONVINCED WHAT THE PROBLEM IS! I AM CERTAIN THAT WATER IN THE FUEL IS PART OF THE PROBLEM. I AM NOT CONVINCED THAT A NEW FUEL PUMP IS NEEDED.*AK
THROTTLE STICKS (MOMENTARILY) JUST AFTER STARTING ENGINE. DOES NOT STICK ANY OTHER TIME. *AK

ELECTRICAL HARNESS WAS FOUND TO BE DEFECTIVE AT THE PCM CONNECTOR RESULTING IN SPORADIC DYING AND FAILURE TO START PROBLEMS. THIS PROBLEM EXISTS IN THE VEHICLE TO THIS DAY DESPITE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO TIGHTEN THE INDIVIDUAL FEMALE PIN CONNECTORS WITHIN THE PCM CONNECTOR. EACH ATTEMPT CURES THE PROBLEM FROM WEEKS TO MONTHS, BUT IN THE END IT COMES BACK. AS A SIDE NOTE, THE AIRBAG INDICATOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED. IT IS ASSUMED TO BE ALSO DUE TO THIS DEFECTIVE WIRING HARNESS. THIS IS A DANGEROUS DYING CONDITION AND HAS RESULTED IN SEVERAL NEAR ACCIDENTS. *JB
DEALER WAS TO REPLACE ALL FIRESTONE TIRES ON VEHICLE UNDER FORD MOTOR COMPANY RECALL. THEY REPLACED ONLY FOUR (4) TIRES, THEY DID NOT REPLACE SPARE TIRE, WHEN ASKED ABOUT THIS THEY SAID RECALL PROGRAM WAS OVER. IF THERE IS A SAFETY DEFECT IN THESE TIRES IT WOULD APPEAR THIS IS AN ACCIDENT JUST WAITING TO HAPPEN! HAVE CHECKED OTHER VEHICLES IN PARKING LOTS AND HAVE FOUND GOODYEAR OR MICHELIN TIRES MOUNTED BUT SOME SPARE TIRES WERE STILL FIRESTONE! SHOULD FORD MOTOR COMPANY BE ASKED TO CHECK RECALL VEHICLES TO SEE IF TIRES HAVE BEEN CHANGED OR IS IT REALLY TOO LATE? MR
THE CONSUMER STATES THAT THERE ARE PROBLEMS WITH THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL. THE CONSUMER STATES THAT THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL WAS PLACED ON, AND STAYED ON FOR ABOUT 10 SECONDS AND STOPPED BLINKING, BUT THE ARROW(LEFT) WAS STILL ILLUMINATED. IMMEDIATELY AFTER SMOKE BEGAN COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. THE DEALER SUGGESTED IT WAS A FUSE. THE CONSUMER FEELS THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL. *TS *SCC *NLM
THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON VEHICLE. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE IN TO A FORD DEALERSHIP AND WAS INFORMED THE PROBLEM WAS HARD TO DETECT. AFTER MANY DEDUCTIONS(FUEL JET CLEANING, FUEL SYSTEM MODULE REPLACED, AND THE REPLACEMENT OF THE CHAIN GUIDES) THE CLUTCH MECHANISM WAS FROZEN TOGETHER BECAUSE OF THE MANY DIFFERENT BRANDS OF TIRES ON THE FRONT VERSUS THE REAR. *JG

CLAIMANT STATES THAT THE CAR WAS IN PARK, ENGINE OFF, AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS ENGAGED. CLAIMANT LEFT KEYS IN THE IGNITION AND PROCEDEED TO THE REAR OF VEHICLE. AFTER CLEANNG THE TAILGATE AREA, CLAIMANT WENT TO REMOVE KEYS. AT THIS POINT THE VEHICLE ROLLED BACKWARDS DOWN THE DRIVEWAY WITH CLAIMANT HALF IN THE CAR. VEHICLE HIT HUSBAND'S PARK CAR, AND CONTINUED INTO THE STREET WHERE IT STRUCK A NEIGHBOR'S MAILBOX, THUS THROWING THE CLAIMANT FROM THE VEHICLE. VEHICLE CONTINUED FOLLING DOWN A VERY STEEP HILL AND WENT OVER A CURB WHERE WE BELIEVED THE VEHICLE FLIPPED OVER. CLAIMANT WAS TAKEN TO EMERGENCY ROOM AND WAS X-RAY. FORTUNATELY, THERE WERE NO BROKEN BONES. CLAIMANT EASILY COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED OR SERIOUSLY WOUNDED BY THE VEHICLE. *AK
AFTER VEHICLE HAS BEEN STARTED GEARS WILL NOT RELEASE FROM PARK. CAUSE IS UNKNOWN. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY MORE DETAILS.*AK
WHLE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUTSDOWN WITHOUT WARNING, CAUSE UNKNOWN. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION.*AK
WHILE DRIVING, UPPER CONTROL ARM DISENGAGED FROM VEHICLE AND WHEEL CAME OFF *AK CONSUMER HAD STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT AND WENT TO ACCELERATE WHEN THE LIGHT CHANGED AND THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE DROPPED TO THE PAVEMENT, CONSUMER NO LONGER OWNS THIS VEHICLE. *JB
THE REAR LIFT GATE DOOR IS FALLING OFF OF THE HINGES.*JB
REAR TIRE STRUCK THE TOYOTA'S FRONT BUMPER AND ROLLED THE EXPLORER OVER. THE SIDE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOYED. THE FORCE IN THE ROLLOVER CRASH SHOULD HAVE ACTIVATED THE SIDE AIRBAGS.

AFTER A FEW DAYS LATER IT BROKE AGAIN, THIS TIME NOT ONLY THE MECHANISM, BUT THE PLASTIC SIDE COVER AND THE SEAT COVER WERE DAMAGED. CONSUMER STATED THERE MAY BE A DESIGN DEFICIENCY OF THE MECHANISM OR A MANUFACTURER DEFICIENCY OF THE ENTIRE SEAT. *YH
