INTERMITTENTLY WINDSHIELD WIPERS AUTOMATICALLY OPERATE. WHEN THE BLINKERS ARE APPLIED THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS OPERATE. WILL NOT OPERATE ON HIGH UNLESS THE BLINKERS ARE ON. THE DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK
WIPERS WILL WORK FOR NO REASON!
WINDSHIELD WIPERS CONTINUALLY FAIL DURING USE IN THE RAIN, POOR VISIBILITY. MJS
PART HAS BEEN ON ORDER TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. DEALER SAYS FORD HAS NOT SHIPPED THEM. WITH THE RAINY WEATHER COMING I NEED WINDSHIELD WIPERS THAT WILL WORK WHEN NEEDED. AT THIS TIME THEY DO NOT WORK CONSISTANTLY. THEY TURN ON WHEN GOING OVER A BUMP, WHEN SIGNALING TO CHANGE LANES, AND ON 9/8/99 I NEEDED THE FAST SPEED AND THE FAST SPEED DID NOT WORK. A "MODULE" IS NEEDED ON THIS CAR AND 20 OTHERS ACCORDING TO THE DEALER AND FORD HAS NOT YET SHIPPED THEM. *AK
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE EXPLORER BACK TO COLLEGE WHEN THE RIGHT REAR TIRE DISINTEGRATED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ROLL TWICE. SHE WAS CUT SEVERAL PLACES AND BRUISED HER LEFT SHOULDER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. THE INVESTIGATING OFFICER PUT THE CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT TO BE THE FAILURE OF THE RIGHT REAR FIRESTONE TIRE.( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: P235/75R15 )
WHILE DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY AT APPROX 45MPH SWITCHED LANE TO THE RIGHT HAND, AND ANOTHER VEHICLE CAME OUT FROM THE CONSUMER'S RIGHT, SWERVED BACK OVER TO ANOTHER LANE TO AVOID HITTING CONSUMER'S VEHICLE. BUT, INSTEAD VEHICLE REAR ENDED CONSUMER'S CAR. NEITHER AIRBAG DEPLOYED. ALSO, INERTIA SWITCH FAILED. CONTACTED DEALER. *AK
ENGINE CUTS OFF WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, I LOSE BRAKES AND STEERING. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIR MORE THAN 3 TIMES BUT THE ENGINE CONTINUES TO STALL OUT. DEALERSHIP INDICATES FORD IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT IS NOT ABLE TO PRESENTLY REPAIR. VEHICLE IS DANGEROUS WHEN ENGINE QUITS WHILE IN MOTION. VEHICLE IS NOT PROVIDING RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION. ALSO, THERE IS AN ENGINE RATTLE WHICH IS WORSTENING BUT DEALERSHIP SAID THIS IS "NORMAL." I AM INTERESTED IN DETERMINING IF THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER SIMILAR COMPLAINTS AND IF SO, HOW MANY AND WHAT HAS FORD DONE ABOUT THIS. *AK
HAD HEARD A HIGH PITCH SQUEALING NOISE. BRAKES BECAME MUSHY. HEARD A CLUNKING NOISE, BRAKES STILL MUSHY. FINALLY NO BRAKES AT ALL. A BOLT FELL OUT OF BRAKE PADS. ENTIRE BRAKES SYSTEM BECAME DAMAGED. *AK
REAR WINDOW EXPLODED IN MY GARAGE. *AK
AIR BAG LIGHT FLASHED CODES AND THEN STAYED ON. DEALER REPLACED MODULE. WAITED TWO WEEKS FOR PART. SAME PROBLEM REOCCURED TWO WEEKS LATER AND AS OF 9/25/99 HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED.

CONSUMER RECEIVED RECALL 00T005, HOWEVER THE LETTER WAS JUST RECEIVED DUE TO AN INCORRECT ADDRESS, CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT WHERE THE FIRESTONE TIRE (NO SIZE) EXPERIENCED A BLOWOUT CAUSING VEHICLE TO ROLL, VEHICLE WAS A TOTAL LOSS. *SLC
DIAGNOSED AS TRANSMISSION SLIP; AT 15 MPH, SLIPS INTO NEUTRAL THEN BACK INTO DRIVE; RE-DESIGN OF VALVE BOX DUE TO BRACKET FAILURE, VEHICLE IS NOW WAITING AT DEALER FOR NEWLY DESIGNED PART
CLEAR DAY/NEWLY PAVED ROAD/NO DEBRIS/BLOWOUT/GASH IN TIRE WHERE TREAD MET SIDEWALL( DOT NUMBER: VDHL TIRE SIZE: P235/75R15 )
WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH A FIRE STARTED IN THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR PANEL. DRIVER WAS ABLE TO PULL TO THE SHOULDER SAFELY AND PUT OUT THE FIRE. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY APPROXIMATELY 55MPH AND WHEN THE TURN SIGNAL IS ON THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS RUN. WINDSHIELD WIPERS WILL COME ON IF VEHICLE HITS A BUMP IN THE ROAD. CONTACTED DEALER AND MANUFACTURER. *AK
THE FAILED PART LISTED IS THE IDLE AIR SENSOR. WHEN THIS PART FAILS THE VEHICLE DIES. THIS FAILURE CAN NOT BE DETECTED BY THE MECHANIC UNTIL THE PART COMPLETELY FAILS. THE LISTINGS PROVIDED ARE ONLY THE TIMES IN WHICH THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP TO ATTEMPT REPAIRS. ON SEVERAL OCCASSIONS I WAS SENT AWAY WITH THE MECHANIC NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. SOME OF THE REPAIR HAS COME UNDER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY BUT I WONDER HOW LONG THE REPAIRS WILL LAST. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE WITH 5245 MILES AND TROUBLE WITH THIS PART STARTED AT APPROX. 15000 MILES. DUE TO THE FACT THAT ALL POWER IS LOST WHEN THE VEHICLE DIES, THIS COULD BE A VERY DANGEROUS FAILURE. NO LETTERS WERE SENT TO THE MANUFACTURER BECAUSE I THOUGHT THE DEALER WAS A BRANCH OF THE MANUFACTURER AND THE REPAIRS COULD NOT WAIT FOR A LETTER TO ARRIVE TO AUTHORIZE REPAIR. I BELIEVE I BOUGHT A LEMON AND I AM JUST WAITING FOR THE NEXT FAILURE!
WINSHIELD WIPERS WORK INTERMITTENTLY EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE TURNED OFF. DEALER WAS CONTACTED BUT INFORMED ME THEY COULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM PENDING ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FROM FORD. THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT ANNOYANCE.
WINDSHIELD WIPERS TURN ON WITHOUT TOUCHING THE SWITCH ON NUMEROUS OCCASSIONS.
WINDSHIELD WIPERS WILL NOT WORK.EALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED, AND STATED THAT THE PART NEEDED A GEM MODULE THAT CONTROLVARIOUS ELECTRONIC PARTS. *AK
WINDSHILD WIPERS SOMETIMES COME ON BY THEMSELVES. WIPERS DO NOT ALWAYS WORK IN CONTINUOUS MODE. WASHER DOES NOT ALWAYS WORK(IMMAGINE DRIVING THROUGH DIRTY SNOW WHEN THIS HAPPENS) SEEMS MANY EXPLORERS HAVE THIS PROBLEM. DEALER DOESN'T KNOW WHEN PARTS WILL BE DELIVERD. I QUESS FORD IS WAITING FOR A MAJOR ACCIDENT TO OCCUR. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM. IMAGINE DRIVING THROUGH A HEAVY RAIN AND BEING ABLE TO USE WIPERS IN CONTINOUS MODE OR HAVING DIRTY SNOW ON THE WINDSHIELD AND NOT BEING ABLE TO WASH IT OFF WHILE ON A SUPERHIGHWAY.
VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A SIDE COLLISION AT 30MPH. THE POINT OF IMPACT WAS BETWEEN THE FRONT AND REAR DOORS ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE. UPON IMPACT, VEHICLE ROLLED OVER 40 FEET, RESULTING IN MINOR INJURIES. MANUFACTURER WILL BE NOTIFIED. *AK
CAR WILL NOT START . ALSO, CONSUMER SMELLED GAS FUMES. TOOK CAR TO THE DEALER, AND THEY TOLD HUIM THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. *AK
WAS SMELLING FUMES INSIDE VEHICLE. NOTICED FUEL FROM EXHAUST PIPE. PARKED VEHICLE & CHECKED UNDERNEATH & SAW THE LEAKAGE. HAVE TAKEN VEHICLE TO DEALER. WAS INFORMED FUEL INJECTORS WERE OPEN. THIS WAS CAUSING THE LEAKAGE PROBLEM. *AK
WAS DRIVING VEHICLE IN OVERDRIVE. LIGHT WAS BLINKING ON/OFF. ENGINE STARTED TO ROAR & THEN IT STOPPED. VEHICLE WAS MOVING SLOWLY WHEN IT HAPPENED. TAKEN VEHICLE TO DEALER & WAS INFORMED BY MECHANIC NEW TRANSMISSION IS NEEDED. *AK
THE ORIGINAL (FIRESTONE WILDERNESS) RIGHT FRONT TIRES SHAKING AND MAKING LOUD NOISE, DEALER ROTATED THE TIRES, HOWEVER PROBLEM STILL CONTINUES. *ET
THE MAIN COMPUTER WAS SHUT DOWN DUE TO A FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH. THIS FAILURE MAY BE THE CAUSE OF OTHER ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS TO FAIL. THE AIRBAG CONNECTORS WERE CRACKED UNDER PASSENGER SEAT CAUSING FAILURE. VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO DEALER 4-5 TIMES. *YC
PE00020, ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT; WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE AT 60 MPH SUDDENLY IT FELT LIKE CAR LIFTED, AND THEN HEARD A POP. WHEN CAR LANDED, CONSUMER LOST CONTROL, CAR SWERVED, AND USED A CEMENT DIVIDER TO HELP SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN AND TO KEEP IT FROM ROLLING OVER. *AK THE CONSUMER FEELS THE ACCIDENT WAS DUE TO FAULTY FIRESTONE WILDERNESS XT TIRES AND 2 PEOPLE WERE INJURED. THE WIPER SWITCH WAS REPLACED. *SLC
I HAVE DETAILED DOCUMENTATION REGARDING THE 8/7/99 ACCIDENT INVOLVING THE WILDERNESS XT TIRE AND NOW WITH THE RECENT RECALL, HAVING THE SECOND SET OF WILDERNESS XT TIRES REPLACED AT THE SCARSDALE FORD DEALERSHIP, WHO CONFIRMED THAT ON BOTH OCASSIONS, MY FORD EXPLORER CONTAINED SAID TIRES. ALL CORRESPONDENCE AND DOCUMENTATION WAS PROVIDED TO FORD MOTOR COMPANY'S OFFICE OF THE GENERAL COUNSEL IN DEARNBORN, MI, WITH NO RESPONSE, (INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO RECEIPTS, POLICE REPORT AND OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES DUE TO THE DELAY IN FORD'S RESPONSE TO MY WRITTEN AND TELEPHONE INQUIRES ($6,000), IN ADDITION TO THE COST OF REPAIRS WHICH WAS COVERED UNDER MY AUTO INSURANCE. I CAN AND WILL PROVIDE ALL THE CORRESPONDING DOCUMENTATION TO OBTAIN THE APPROPRIATE RENUMERATION. THE FORD SCARSDALE DEALERSHIP HAS ALSO MAINTAINED COPIES OF MY DOCUMENATION WHICH THEY ARE ALSO READY TO PROVIDE UPON REQUEST. I MADE A CALL TO YOUR OFFICE AND WAS ADVISED THAT I WOULD RECEIVE THE FORM IN THE MAIL AND THAT WAS ALMOST A MONTH AGO, REASON FOR WHICH I SUMBITTING THIS ELECTRONIC COMPLAINT FORM. RECEIVED A MANUFACTURER'S RECALL NOTICE# 99S-18 FOR HOOD LATCH SECONDARY; CALLED FOR A APPOINTMENT / REPORTED FOR APPOINTMENT, WAITED TWO HOURS, AND WAS INFORMED THAT NO PARTS WERE AVAILABLE, AND THEY WOULD CONTACT THEM WHEN PARTS WERE MADE AVAILABLE; NO WORDS WERE RECEIVED AT THIS TIME. ASKING NHTSA TO LOOK INTO THIS MATTER OR PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *AK
KEY WOULD NOT TURN ON IGNITION. CAR TOWED ON FLATBED TRUCK TO DEALER IN TRAVERSE CITY MICHIGAN. I REGARD THIS AS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. WE DON'T WANT CARS FAILING TO START AND NEEDING TO BE DRAGGED ACROSS PAVEMENT DUE TO LOCKED 4 WHEEL DRIVE. IF THIS HAPPENED AT NIGHT, ON A BRIDGE,ETC., COULD CAUSE MAJOR ACCIDENTS, OR ABDUCTIONS. I AM DISALLUSIONED THAT AN IGNITION SWITCH COULD FAIL AFTER 2300 MILES. TOW TRUCJK OPERATOR SAID HE HAD TOWED THREE NEW FORD PRODUCTS IN A 2 WEEK SPAN TO DEALER WITH SAME IGNITION SWITCH FAILURE. I WOULD LIKE THIS INVESTIGATED AND A SAFETY RECALL ISSUED IF FACTS WARRANT, THANK YOU.
THE REAR LEFT SIDE WINDOW EXPLODED UNEXPECTEDLY WHICH MAY HAVE CAUSED INJURIES. DEALER CLAIMED IT MAY BE THE HEAT. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION AND VIN#. *AK
WHEN LIFTING THE LATCH ON THE SEAT, THE LATCH SPRING FLIPPED OFF, AND THE PASSENGER'S SIDE SEAT BROKE. SEAT ROCKS FORWARD AND BACKWARD ON THE RAILS, AND THE BACK OF THE SEAT GOES UP AND DOWN. *AK
ENGINE DEVELOPED NOISE IN LOWER END. FORD SERVICE BULLETIN 13645 DESCRIBES PROBLEM, "DIESEL OR MARBLES IN A TIN CAN RATTLE" 4.0 OHV; PROBLEM GETS LOUDER WITH TIME; CONCERNED ABOUT FAILURE.
ARM REST IN THE BACK OF THE TRUCK IS IN THE WAY OF WHERE THE CHILD SEAT IS THE BEST PLACE TO GO.DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THEY MAKE NO OTHER SEATS. *AK

TURN SIGNAL/WINDSHIELD WASHER - WASHER FLUID SOMETIMES FAIL WHEN "PUSHED-IN" . NO "HIGH" SPEED ON WIPERS. WIPERS GO ON WHEN USING TURN SIGNAL & THEY ALSO START WITHOUT TURNING THEM ON.
WHEN STOPPING, VEHICLE HESITATES. INTERMITTENTLY STARTS UP, AND GAS PEDAL HAS TO BE PUMPED. DEALER CONTACTED AND STATED FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE BLED DOWN.*AK
WINDSHIELD WIPERS ARE INOPERABLE. WHEN THE TURN SIGNAL IS ACTIVATED THE WIPERS WILL ACTIVATE. THE DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK
SEVERAL MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE THE VEHICLE'S WINDSHIELD WIPERS WOULD COMMERCE TO OPERATE WITHOUT THE SWITCH BEING ACTIVATED. HOWEVER, ON JULY 20, 1999 THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MODULE WAS REPLACED, ON AUGUST 16, 1999 THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS FAILURE ALMOST RESULTING IN COLLISION. PROBLEM WAS NEVER CORRECTED, PROBLEM STILL EXIST. *YC

WHEN TRAVELING ABOUT 60MPH VEHICLE PULLS TO THE RIGHT. WHEN MAKING A TURN, VEHICLE MAKES A THUMPING NOISE. TRUCK SWAYS AND TIRES RIDE AS IF THEY NEED TO BE BALANCED, ALTHOUGH TIRES HAVE BEEN BALANCED AND PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. DEALER SAYS THAT THERE IS NOTHING ELSE THAT THEY CAN DO. *AK *ML
VEHICLE WAS PLACED IN PARK, AND WHEN DRIVER GOT OUT OF VEHICLE, IT STARTED TO ROLL. VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A COMMERCIAL TRUCK. DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND PROBLEM CANNOT BE DUPLICATED. PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
