I AM VERY CONCERNED AS TO THE REPORTED FAILURE OF FIRESTONE TIRES ON FORD EXPLORERS. I HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED THIS YET BUT DO NOT WISH TO EITHER. THE FRONT END NOISE PERSISTS EVEN AFTER BOTH FRONT HUBS AND FRONT SEALS WERE REPLACED DURING TWO SEPERATE SERVICE CALLS. THE WIPER SENSOR/MOTOR WAS REPLACED BEFORE WINDSHIELD WIPERS STARTED COMING ON WITHOUT WARNING SINCE THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT WOULD HAPPEN..THE DEALER HAS BEEN VERY HELPFUL AND UPFRONT, BUT THE FRONT END NOISE STILL PERSISTS AND IT IS QUITE ANNOYING TO HAVE TO KEEP GOING BACK FOR THE SAME SYMPTOMS. I HAVE HEARD THIS HAS BEEN A COMMON COMPLAINT IN THIS AREA. *AK
WHILE TRAVELING AT 60 MPH FRONT LEFT FIRESTONE WILDERNESS TIRES BLEWOUT. FIRESTONE HAS BEEN CONTACTED. *AK
I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH VIBERATION WHEN I GET A TIRE ROTATION. EVERYTIME THE BACK TIRES ARE ROTATED TO THE FRONT, I HAVE INCREASED VIBERATION, SO I HAVE SINCE ROTATED THE TIRES BACK TO WHERE THE VIBERATION IS MUCH LESS. I READ AN ARTICLE IN THE PAPER TODAY THAT SAID THE FIRESTONE WILDERNESS TIRES WERE "UNDER INVESTIGATION". I TRAVEL QUITE A LOT BETWEEN TEXAS AND LOUISIANA AND I AM CONCERNED ABOUT MY SAFETY AND OTHERS ON THE HIGHWAYS. SHOULD THIS BE A CONCERN, SINCE I SEEM TO HAVE A TIRE PROBLEM AT THIS PRESENT TIME? I CONTACTED FIRESTONE STORE IN COOS BAY, OREGON ABOUT THE PROBLEMS WITH THE FIRESTONE TIRES TREADS COMING OFF MY 1999 FORD EXPLORER. I WAS VERY CONCERNED ABOUT SAFETY. MR. VAUGN REPLIED THAT IT WAS FORD'S PROBLEM AND THAT HE DID NOT CARE HOW MANY PEOPLE DIED DUE TO THE TIRE FAILURES - THAT IT WAS FORD'S FAULT AND NOT FIRESTONE. *AK( DOT NUMBER: TIRE SIZE: P23575R15 )
RECEIVED FLAT TIRE LAST WEEK ON MY LEASED FORD EXP., FORD SENT ME TO THE FIRSTONE STORE IN LAKE FOREST, (MY TIRE WAS BLOWN FROM THE INSIDE OUT AND SEPERATED, THE STORE SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE TIRES AND SOLD ME ANOTHER ONE, AND NEVER CHECKED THE TIRES ON MY TRUCK TO SEE IF THEY WERE GOOD, THEN THE ANNOUNCEMENT CAME OUT. ON JULY 26, 2000 I TOOK MY EXPLORER TO SHEEHY FORD SPRINGFIELD IN REFERENCE TO A VIBRATING/HUMMING NOISE COMING FROM MY LEFT FRONT TIRE. THEY CHECKED AND STATED THAT EVERYTHING APPEARED NORMAL. HOWEVER, THE VIBRATING/HUMMING NOISE STILL EXISTS. *AK( DOT NUMBER: )
WANT THIS TIRE TO BECOME A RECALL, THERE HAS BEEN 46 DEATHS PATHFINDER LOST THE TREAD ON HER TIRES SHE IN SO FAR. THERE WAS A YOUNG LADY YESTERDAY IN TEXAS THAT HER PATHFINDER LOST THE TIRE TREAD SHE IS IN THE HOSPITAL. THIS MORNING A RECALL FOR FIRESTONE WIDERNESS AT TIRES WAS ANNOUNCED. I CONTACTED MY FIRESTONE DEALER AND THEY SAY ITS ONLY FOR TIRES WITH DOT STARTING WITH "VD". THEY SAID NOTHING ABOUT ONLY CERTAIN DOT NUMBERS ONTHE NEWS RELEASE BY FIRESTONE V.P. GARY CRIGGER. MY WIFE AND KIDS DRIVE THIS CAR EVERY DAY AND I FEEL MY TIRES ARE NOT SAFE, HOWEVER THE FIRESTONE DEALER WILL NOT REPLACE MY FIRESTONE WILDERNESS AT TIRES BECAUDE OF A WRONG DOT NUMBER. VEHICLE RIDES UNSTABLE AT SPEEDS OF 55MPH OR GREATER, PARTICULARLY ON THE FREEWAY. VEHICLE AGGERSIVELY TRACKS AND SWAYS. VEHICLE ALSO OVEREACTS WHEN SUDDEN MOVE TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT IS NECESSITATED TO AVOID OBSTRUCTION IN THE ROAD OR COLLISION WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE. ALIGNMENT HAS BEEN INSPECTED 3 TIMES AND RULED OUT AS THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. NEW EDDIE BAUER AND XLT MODEL EXPLORERS WERE ALSO TEST DRIVEN WITH THE DEALER (HOMER HELLER FORD) AND FOUND TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AS SUBJECT LIMITED. ALL HAVE FIRESTONE WIDLERNESS AT TIRES STOCK FROM FACTORY. RATTLE IN MOTOR, WORKED ON 2 TIMES, WAS TOLD WE WOULD RECEIVE A NEW MOTOR FROM FORD. AT THE CURRENT TIME IT IS IN THE SHOP BEING REPLACED. WE WERE UNDER THE ASSUMPTION IT WOULD BE A NEW MOTOR, BUT WHEN WE TOOK IT THERE TO BE CHANGED WE WERE TOLD IT WOULD BE A FACTORY RE-BUILT MOTOR. DUE TO THE LARGE RECALL WE HAD OUR TIRE INSPECTED BY A FIRESTONE DEALERSHIP IN TAYLORS, SC . THE TIRES HAVE SERIOUS CRACKS IN THE SIDE WALLS, THIS WAS CONFIRMED BY THE DEALERSHIP HOWEVER THEY STATE THESE TIRES WERE NOT IN THE RECALL AND IF WE WANTED THEM REPLACED WE WOULD HAVE TO PAY A PRORATED AMT. THE VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 20,000 MILES THERE SHOULD NOT BE ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE TIRES AT THIS MILEAGE, THE RECALL NEEDS TO BE EXPANDED. WE WELCOME ANYONE FROM THE NHTSA TO INSPECT THE TIRES. THE DEALERSHIP WAS VERY HELPFUL BUT SAID THERE HANDS WERE TIED IN THIS MATTER. THE TIRE ARE THE W2 SERIES. THE FIRESTONE WILDERNESS TIRE SEPARATED ON A TRIP MY WIFE AND CHILDREN WERE TAKING TO NEW ORLEANS. THE FIRESTONE DEALER IN NEW ORLEANS STATED THAT NO ADJUSTMENT WOULD BE MADE ON THE TIRE AND AT THAT TIME MY WIFE PURCHASED A NEW TIRE TO REPLACE THE SEPARATED TIRE. SUBSEQUENTLY THERE WAS A RECALL ON FIRESTONE TIRES. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A FIRESTONE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE WILDERNESS TIRE ON OUR AUTO WERE NOT THE RECALLED TIRES WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE ONE REPLACEMENT TIRE PURCHASED IN NEW ORLEANS. MEANING OF COURSE THAT A FIRESTONE WILDERNESS TIRE THAT SEPARATED IS NOT A PART OF THE CURRENT RECALL. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT USING THE AUTO DUE TO MY UNCERTAINTY ABOUT THE QUALITY OF TIRES AND WONDER IF THE PROBLEM IS A DESIGN OR MANUFACTURING PROBLEM ,THAT EFFECTS ALL WILDERNESS TIRES AND NOT ONLY THE TIRES MANUFACTURED AT THE IL PLANT. TIRES ON VEHICLE ARE WILDERNESS AT, THEY HAVE 30 PSI OF AIR EACH. RIGHT FRONT TIRE IS SHOWING CRACKING AT THE CROWN OF TIRE BETWEEN TREAD AND SIDEWALL ALL THE WAY AROUND THE TIRE. THE RIGHT REAR TIRE IS SHOWING SOME CRACKS JUST STARTING. THE DOT NUMBERS DO NOT START WITH VD, HOWEVER IT APPEARS TO ME THAT THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE WILDERNESS AT TIRES THAT DO. CONSUMER REPLACED RECALLED FIRESTONE WILDERNESS TIRES AND IS REQUESTING REIMBURSEMENT. *SLC
THIS RELATES TO THE FIRESTONE TIRE RECALL. BEFORE THE FIRESTONE TIRE RECALL WAS ANNOUNCED, I HAD MY MOTHER-IN-LAW TAKE HER EXPLOYER IN TO THE LOCAL DEALER IN JEFFERSON CITY, MISSOURI BECAUSE I NOTICED EXCESSIVE WEAR ON HER FRONT TIRES. THE TREAD ON THE INNER SURFACES WAS WORN COMPLETELY DOWN AND YOU COULD NOTICE A DISTINCTIVE SOUND AS YOU DROVE IT DOWN THE HIGHWAY, I CALL IT THE HELICOPTER SOUND. THE RESPONSE SHE RECEIVED WAS THAT ALL EXPLOYERS DO THIS AND THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THEY COULD DO ABOUT IT. AFTER THE RECALL WAS ANOUNCED, SHE TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND IN HER WORDS "THE MEN IN SUITS HAD HER TIRES REPLACESD ON THE SPOT". THAT TOOK CARE OF THE TIRE PROBEM FOR NOW, BUT I BELIEVE THAT IF ALL EXPLOYERS TEND TO WEAR TIRES AS THE DEALER INDICATED TO HER, THEN IT COULD BE A CONTRIBUTARY CAUSE OF THE PREMATURE TIRE FAILURES THAT HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCE ON FORD EXPLOYERS.
WE TOOK THE CAR TO A FIRESTONE DEALER AND WERE TOLD THAT THE TIRES ARE NOT ON RECALL -- JUST THE ONES WITH VD AT THE START OF THE NUMBER. HOWEVER, THERE ARE CRACKS IN THE TIRES AND THE DEALER SAW THEM -- SAID WE SHOULD REPLACE THEM AND HE WOULD ADJUST THEM. THIS WAS TWO WEEKS AGO - HE WAS OUT OF THE TIRES AT THE TIME AND SAID HE WOULD CALL US WITHIN A WEEK. WE HAVE HEARD NOTHING. WE ARE VERY CONCERNED FOR OUR SAFETY, ESPECIALLY SINCE THE FIRESTONE DEALER SAID THE TIRES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. FORD AND FIRESTONE REFUSE TO REPLACE 16 INCH TIRES EVEN THOUGH THERE IS DATA SHOWING SIMILAR TIRE FAILURE AS THE 15 INCH MODEL. THE NHTSA, AND CSA AND OTHER GROUPS HAVE RECOMMENDED THEY BE INCLUDED TO NO AVAIL. PE00020, TIRE TREAD SEPARATION: OWNER FOUND SIGNS OF TREAD SEPARATION ON ALL FOUR TIRES. REAR DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE WAS THE WORST. CRACKS WERE FROM 1-2 INCHES LONG.
