TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ASSEMBLY DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. HE DROVE ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE AND PARKED THE VEHICLE. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED HE WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ASSEMBLY INTO A POSITION WHERE HE WOULD STILL BE ABLE TO DRIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHERE IT WAS TEMPORARILY REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 160,000. WE CALLED 911 AND THE POLICE AND FIRE CAME OUT AND THE FIRE WAS PUT OUT BEFORE ANYTHING BUT THE TRUCK WAS DAMAGED AND ACCORDING TO THE INSURANCE COMPANY THE TRUCK IS TOTALED. HE CALLED THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE THE PART FOR THE REPAIR; THEREFORE, THEY DISCONNECTED THE CRUISE CONTROL WITHOUT NOTIFYING HIM. THERE HAD BEEN NO FAILURE TO DATE. THE RECALL NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 79,000.

WE ARE HAVING IT DISCONNECTED BUT THE PART WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE TO REPAIR THE CRUISE CONTROL UNTIL AT LEAST JANUARY. MY HUSBAND HAS BACK TROUBLE AND DRIVES EVERY COUPLE OF WEEKS TO PICKUP AN ELDERLY FAMILY MEMBER. IT IS VERY PAINFUL FOR HIM TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE ANY DISTANCE WITHOUT THE CRUISE CONTROL.
