TREAD SEPARATION ON LEFT REAR TIRE OF 2000 FORD EXPLORER CAUSED DRIVER TO LOSE CONTROL OF VEHICLE. DETREAD TIRE WAS PUT ON THE EXPLORER AS PART OF THE FIRESTONE RECALL IN SEPT. 2000. VEHICLE ROLLED SEVERAL TIMES, DRIVER SIDE LEADING. BOTH OCCUPANTS WERE BELTED. FRONT PASSENGER REMAINS IN A COMA. TIRE CONTINENTAL CONTITRAC SUV M + S 235/75 R15 ADHL EJJ 4600. *JB
WHILE DRIVING AT 40MPH WAS INVOLVED A FRONT COLLISION AND NEITHER OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. CONSUMER STATED THAT MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE NOT HELPING AT ALL. *AK *PH
WHEN THE VEHICLE SITS FOR 4-8 HOURS I WOULD ATTEMPT TO START IT AND THEN IT WOULD CUT OFF. THEN ATTEMPTED TO RESTART IT CUTS OFF. I WOULD HAVE TO STEP ON THE GAS TO START IT AND KEPT MY FOOT ON THE GAS. IF I LET GO OF THE GAS THE ENGINE WOULD SHAKE AND THEN IT WOULD STALL. NO ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHEN DRIVING. THIS HAPPENED AT 60,000 MILES. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER IN WOODSTOCK GA ON JUNE 30, 2003 AND STATED THAT MOST OF THE EXPLORERS AND EXPEDITIONS ARE COMING IN WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THE DEALER FOUND IT IS THE IAC VALVE STICKING OR THE IGNITION MODUCLE SENSOR BAD AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. IF IT WAS FOR NOT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY THE PART ALONE COSTS $225.00 IF THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM, WITH THE FORD DON;T UNDERSTAND WHY FORD DOES NOT RECALL THEM. I CONSIDERED THIS A DEFECT.*AK
VEHICLE WILL NOT START AT TIMES WITHOUT DEPRESSING AND HOLDING ON THE GAS. VEHICLE STALLS OUT AND/OR THE RPM'S BARELY IDLE OVER 0. AT OTHER TIMES WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE THE RPM'S REV UP HIGH. SEEMS NOT TO BE GETTING SUFFICIENT POWER WHEN DRIVING, CAN DEPRESS GAS PEDAL TO FLOOR BUT WILL NOT PICK UP ANY SPEED. BEEN UNABLE TO TAKE THE TRUCK OVER 80 MPH. *NLM
WHILE AT A LIGHT DRIVER NOTICED WHITE SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE DASHBOARD WHERE THE HAZARD LIGHT IS LOCATED. AIR CONDITIONING WAS THEN TURNED OFF, AND AFTER A FEW MINUTES THE SMOKE STOPPED. *AK
THE CONSUMER STATED THE REAR RIGHT TIRE BLEW OUT WITHOUT WARNING. *AK *SCC *JB
RECENTLY PURCHASED 2000 EXPLORER XLT. RADIO LIGHT GOES ON/OFF INTERMITTENTLY, SOMETIMES NOT WORKING FOR HOURS! ALSO,WHEN CDS ARE EJECTED, THEY ARE HOT TO THE TOUCH.*AK
WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, THE LEFT CALIPER RETURNED THE BRAKE PAD, WHICH CAUSED THE PAD TO WEAR, AND A SQUEAKING NOISE WAS HEARD FROM THE WHEEL. THE CONSUMER REPLACED THE REAR BRAKE PAD AND LEFT REAR ROTOR. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK *CB *JB
WE HAVE A 2000 FORD EXPLORER. THE BACK PORTION (RECLINER) OF THE FRONT SEATS WERE VERY LOOSE. I HAD THEM INSPECTED AND FOUND THAT THE PIVOT BOLT (RECLINER BOLT) ON BOTH SIDES WERE BROKE OFF. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAYS THEY HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE AND THAT THIS WAS VERY UNUSUAL. I LOOKED UNDER YOUR WEBSITE AND FOUND THAT AN INVESTIGATION IS OPEN AS OF 5/21/03 REGARDING SIMILAR SITUATIONS. IF IT WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN FOR ME BEING CONCERNED ABOUT US FALLING TO THE BACKSEAT SOMEDAY DUE TO THEIR LOOSENESS, A SEVERE INJURY COULD MAYBE HAVE OCCURRED JUST LIKE ONES FILED IN THE COMPLAINTS YOU HAVE ON FILE.. I GOT THE SITUATION REPAIRED (COSTING ME $77.13). THE SERVIE DEPARTMENT EVEN GAVE ME THE BOLTS TO SHOW WHAT HAD HAPPENED. I FEEL THIS SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED ALSO AND MAYBE I SHOULD BE COMPENSATED FOR REPAIRING THIS BEFORE A SEVER INJURY DID OCCUR. *AK
AT 3807 MILES 1ST TRANSMISSION FOUND TO HAVE BEEN SENT FROM FACTORY MISSING GEAR, TRANSMISSION REPLACED. WAS NOT TOLD WITH A REFURBISHED TRANSMISSION AT TIME OF REPAIR. 2ND TRANSMISSION STUCK IN 3RD GEAR, REPLACED VALVE BODY GASKETS AND SOLENOID, RAN FOR 48,000 MILES, NOW 4TH GEAR WRONG RATIO(RESULTING IN OVERHAUL)ALSO OVERDRIVE BAND AND CLUTCHES ARE DAMAGED, MANIFOLD CRACKED, WARRANTY OVER, AND FORD WANTS ME TO PAY $2800 TO FIX IT. TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED IN AN INTERSECTION TWICE, AND ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY AT 60 MPH. FORD TAKING NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR OBVIOUS TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS IN THIS SUV. ANOTHER FORD DEALER HAD TO TELL ME THIS WAS A REFURBISHED TRANSMISSION AND TO CALL THEM ON IT, WHICH THEY ADMITTED TO ON FRIDAY JUNE 6TH, 2003. DEALER SAYS THEY CALLED FORD HDQ WHO SAID TRANSMISSION MY RESPONSIBILITY TO FIX NOW, AND DEALER WILL NOT STAND BEHIND VEHICLE EITHER.*AK
TRANSMISSION FUEL LINE BROKE AND LEAKED FUEL ONTO THE MUFFLER AND CATALYTIC CONVERTER WHILE DRIVING.*AK
CONSUMER STATES THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 35MPH VEHICLE WAS IN A COLLISION. CONSUMER STATES THAT BOTH FRONT AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK
THE DRIVERS SEATBACK IN MY WIFES 2000 EXPLORER APPEARS TO BE LOOSE,IT ROCKS FORE AND AFT ABOUT ONE QUARTER OF AN INCH.I AM CONCERNED THAT IT WILL GET PROGRESSIVELY WORSE AND POSSIBILY COLLASPE WHILE DRIVING.
WHILE DRIVING THE AIRBAG LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASH AND WOULD NOT GO OFF UNTIL THE VEHICLE WAS SHUT OFF. *NLM *AK *PH *NLM
CONSUMER STOPPED VEHICLE AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND ENGAGED THE TURN SIGNAL WHEN SMOKE SUDDENLY BEGAN EMITTING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN INTO THE PASSENGER CABIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS AN ELECTRICAL WIRING MALFUNCTION. *NLM

2000 FORD EXPLORER 4DR AWD - THE DRIVER'S SEAT UNEXPECTEDLY WENT INTO THE FULLY RECLINED POSITION WITHOUT WARNING WHILE SITTING IN THE SEAT. A FORD DEALERSHIP IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM AS A BROKEN BOLT. REPAIRS COST $240.22 *AK
THE BRAKE LIGHTS FAILED WHILE BACKING UP. *NLM.
CONSUMER STATED THAT THE TOP HINGE OF DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR SEPARATED FROM THE BODY OF VEHICLE.*AK CONSUMER ALSO HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING. *PH *JB
THE CONSUMER STATED THE BRAKE PEDAL FADED BEFORE THE VEHICLE RESPONDED TO THE PEDAL. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED MASTER CYLINDER FAILURE. *AK WHEN TESTED ON GRAVEL, ONLY THE BACK BRAKES WORKED WHICH WAS ONLY AFTER THE PEDAL WAS ALMOST TO THE FLOOR. COMPLETE FAILURE COULD HAVE RESULTED. *SCC *JB
THE MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH IN MY 2000 FORD EXPLORER XLT STARTED SMOKING WHEN THE TURN SIGNAL WAS TURNED ON. THE SERVICE MAN INFORMED ME THAT THIS SITUATION NEEDED TO BE TAKEN CARE OF AS SOON AS POSSIBLE BECAUSE IF IT WAS NOT FIXED THERE WAS A CHANCE THAT A FIRE WOULD START BECAUSE OF THIS MALFUNCTION AND COULD CAUSE A FIRE THAT WOULD TAKE OUT THE ENTIRE WIRING SYSTEM OF MY VEHICLE. FORD EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THEY DID NOT CONSIDER THIS A "HAZARD" IT WAS SOMETHING THEY CONSIDERED A "MAINTENANCE ISSUE." I HAVE 42,000 MILES ON MY VEHICLE. I HAVE OWNED 2 EXPLORERS PREVIOUS TO THIS AND ONE OF MY OTHER EXPLORERS EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM AS WELL. *NLM
THE CAR WHILE THE DAY BEFORE RAN FINE,BEGAN BY SLIPPING WHILE IN REVERSE. WOULD NOT WORK IN REVERSE SO I IMMEDIATELY RETURNED THE CAR TO DRIVE WHERE IT WOULD NOT GO SMOOTHLY INTO THAT GEAR EITHER. THE CAR WILL DRIVE IN SECOND BUT WITH NOT MUCH POWER. THIS IS ONE OF MANY INCIDENTS WITH THIS VEHICLE IN LESS THAN 3 YEARS HAVING ALSO REPLACING THE BRAKES THREE TIMES IN AS MANY YEARS, TWICE HAD TO REPLACE THE ROTORS. *NLM
WHILE PLACING THE CHILD INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE ARM OF THE CAR SEAT BROKE OFF. *NLM
THE TACHOMETER CABLE FAILED AT 40,378 MILES. *AK CONSUMER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE CRUISE CONTROL FAILED AT 40,578 MILES AND THE ABS FAILED AT 47,900 MILES. IN ADDITION, THE COMPANY WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS BOUGHT IS ALREADY OUT OF BUSINESS. *LA *JB
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AND WITH NO WARNING VEHICLE WILL HEAVILY JERK, AND THEN ENGINE CHECK LIGHT WILL COME ON AND STAY ON THE REMAINDER OF THE TIME VEHICLE WAS BEING OPERATED. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY WHEN MY REAR WINDOW IN MY 2000 FORD EXPLORER SHATTERED. NOTHING HIT THE WINDOW FROM THE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE. THIS WAS EXTREMELY FRIGHTENING, AS IT MADE A LOUD POPPING SOUND WHEN THE WINDOW SHATTERED. PIECES OF GLASS WERE ALL OVER THE HIGHWAY. THE DEALERSHIP AND THE FORD CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE NUMBER CLAIMED NO LIABILITY FOR THE INCIDENT. *JB
WHEN I BOUGHT MY 2000 FORD EXPLORER XLT 4DR THE RADIO DISPLAY ON THE MACH RDS CD/TAPE RADIO DID NOT LIGHT UP. THE DEALER SAID HE FIXED IT AND INDEED IT WORKED FOR ABOUT FIVE MINUTES AFTER I DROVE OFF HIS LOT. I DID SOME RESEARCH INTO THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE DISCOVERED THAT IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS TYPE OF OEM RADIO. SUPPOSEDLY, FIXES ARE AVAILABLE FROM TECHNICIANS ADVERTISING ON EBAY OR AT THIS INTERNET SITE: HTTP://WWW.SHAREAMEMORY.COM/RADIO/ (THE RADIO PICTURED AT THIS SITE IS EXACTLY THE ONE I HAVE). I AM A QUALIFIED ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN AND DISCOVERED THE DETAILS OF THE SUGGESTED DO-IT-YOURSELF REPAIR FROM AN INTERNET NEWS GROUP. I FOLLOWED THE PROCEDURE TO REFLOW THE SOLDER JOINTS ON THE SMT RESISTORS AND COMMON GROUNDS ON THE DIPLAY DRIVER BOARD BUT IT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. I QUESS I WILL BE SENDING MY RADIO OFF FOR "QUESTIONABLE" REPAIRS FROM ONE OF THOSE EBAY TECHNICIANS GETTTING RICH OFF OF FORD'S POOR QUALITY RADIO. THIS IS A KNOWN COMMON PROBLEM, YET THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY REFUSES TO RECOGNIZE IT AS SUCH AND MAKE THE NECEASSARY REPAIRS FREE OF CHARGE (OR EVEN AT A REASONABLE COST).
TRANSMISSION WENT ON MY 2000 FORD EXPLORER WITH ONLY 37,431 MILES ON IT. ONLY 1,400 OVER THE WARRANTY!! *NLM
WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE 1/03 WITH 39,000 MILES ON IT. 3/03 THE IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE WENT BAD AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THEN 7/03 THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE SLIPPING FROM 2ND TO 3RD GEAR. THIS COST $1,800 TO FIX. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAD 43,000 MILES ON AT THAT TIME. NOW IT IS 1/04 AND THE TRUCK IS BACK IN THE SHOP FOR AN IDLE PROBLEM ONCE AGAIN AND THE VEHICLE JERKS AND BUCKS WHEN GOING DOWN THE ROAD AT 35-40 MPH. THIS IS A VERY UNSAFE SITUATION AND FORD SHOULD BE REPLACING ALL THE IAC VALVES UNDER A RECALL BECAUSE THERE ARE AN ABUNDANCE OF EXPLORER OWNERS WHO THIS HAS HAPPENED TO AROUND THE 39,000 -43,000 MILES MARK! *AK
08-14-02 (39685 MILES) - REPLACED IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE - $215.87 03-14-03 (46676 MILES) - REPLACED CONTROL ARM AND BALL JOINTS- $770.82 I FEEL THAT THE ABOVE MENTIONED REPAIRS THAT WERE MADE TO MY 3 YEAR OLD VEHICLE ARE A RESULT OF POOR CRAFTSMANSHIP AND QUALITY WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS MADE, AND THAT THESE CURRENT PROBLEMS ARE EVIDENCE OF "INFANT MORTALITY". THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY HAS REFUSED TO ACCEPT ANY FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY AND DID NOTHING MORE THAN RECEIVE MY COMPLAINT. *JB
THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE RECALL ON THE SUSPENSION. DEALER WILL NOT REPAIR BECAUSE VIN# WAS NOT INCLUDED. *NLM
THE VEHICLE INCREASED IN SPEED WITH OUT WARNING, THE DEALER STATED THERE WAS A RECALL ISSUED REGARDING THE PROBLEM, HOWEVER THE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED.*JB
OUR 2000 FORD EXPLORER, HAS FOR THE SECOND TIME BURNED THROUGH THE SPARK PLUG WIRES. THE FIRST TIME THE DEALER REPLACED THE DAMAGED WIRE, BUT DID NOT INDICATE THAT ANY OTHER PROBLEMS EXISTED THIS PAST WEEK IT OCCURRED AGAIN BUT THE DEALER INDICATED THAT BECAUSE OF THE FAILURE OF THE SPARK PLUG WIRE, FUEL HAS NOW BACKED UP INTO THE TOP SIDE OF THE ENGINE, AND SIGNIFICANT REPAIRS AND THE REMOVAL OF THE FUEL MUST TAKE PLACE. IT SEEMS THIS CONDITION COULD CAUSE AN ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE VERY QUICKLY. CONSIDERING THE REACTION OF THE VEHICLE WOULD INDICATE THE NEED FOR A TUNE UP ONLY. I CONTACTED FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND THEY SAID IT WAS A MAINTENANCE PROBLEM AND NOT A FORD PROBLEM. NEVER HAD A VEHICLE BURN THROUGH SPARK PLUG WIRES BEFORE AND I DON'T SEE HOW A 3 YEAR OLD VEHICLE WOULD EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM TWICE. IT APPEARS TO BE SOMETHING YOU SHOULD LOOK INTO BEFORE A FIRE DOES OCCUR AND CAUSE INJURY OR DEATH. *JB
4-WHEEL DRIVE DOES NOT WORK WITH ONLY 38,770 MILES ON 2000 FORD EXPLORER AND FORD WILL NOT FIX IT UNDER COVERED EXPENSES EVEN THOUGH WE DON'T KNOW HOW LONG IT HAS BEEN BROKEN. HIGH AND LOW LIGHT UP ON DASH BOARD AND WHEN PUT IN DRIVE, IT MAKES THE THUMP AS THOUGH IT IS IN 4 WHEEL DRIVE. WE THOUGHT ALL ALONG IT WAS WORKING UNTIL WE GOT HUNG UP 2 WEEKS AGO IN A DRIVE WAY AND THE FRONT WHEELS WOULD NOT MOVE. I THINK IT WAS BROKE BEFORE THE 36000 MILE WARRANTY EXPIRED. BUT FORD WILL NOT CONSIDER FIXING IT WITHOUT US PAYING FOR IT. *JB
CRITICAL DEFECT IN THE THROTTLE LINKAGE/CRUISE CONTROLS 2000 EXPLORER. IN TWO INCIDENTS INVOLVING THE SAME CONDITIONS: 1) TRUCK , WHEN CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED, SUDDENLY ACCELLERATED TO SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 90 MPH, ON ICY AND SNOWY INTERSTATE (JANUARY 2003), BETWEEN NASHIVILLE AND CINCINNATI, OHIO. 2) TRUCK , WHEN CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED, SUDDENLY ACCELLERATED TO EXCES OF 90 MPH, ON DRY INTERSTATE (71) BETWEEN CINCINNATI, OHIO AND COLUMBUS OHIO. IN BOTH OCCURRENCES, TRUCK TOTALLY NON-RESPONSIVE TO BRAKING ATTEMPTS, TO THE EXTENT THAT DRIVERS STOOD ON THE BRAKES TO ATTEMPT DISENGAGEMENT OF CRUISE CONTROL. ALL OTHER ATTEMPTS AT TURNING OFF ALSO INEFFECTIVE (SWITCHES NON-RESPONSIVE AS WELL). BRAKES HAVE BEEN SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED. DRIVERS BOTH MAINTAIN THAT ACCELLERATION HAPPENED WITHOUT WARNING AND ONLY DISENGAGEMENT OF THE TRANSMISSION (NEUTRAL) CEASED ACCELLERATION. THE RPM OF THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO MAINTAIN 4,000+ RPM AND ONLY COULD THE ENGINE BE DISENGAGED WHEN VEHICLE WAS STEERED INTO SOFT GROUND TO BE SLOWED. THIS PROBLEM IS REPETITIVE AND EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AS IS, BUT EGREGIOUS WHEN MIXED WITH ICY/SNOWY CONDITIONS. FORD DELAERSHIP NON-RESPONSIVE TO GREATER ISSUE; ATTEMPTING TO SHIF LIABILITY ON DRIVERS AND EXPECTING REPAIRS TO BE SHOULDERED BY DRIVERS/OWNERS. DRIVERS MAINTAIN GOOD DRIVING RECORDS AND NOW BELIEVE THIS PROBLEM TO BE LIFE-THREATENING. DRIVERS HAVE ALSO NOTED MULTIPLE OTHER CONSUMERS WITH SAME EXACT PROBLEM AND ARE AWARE OF RECALLS INVOLVING THIS SAME TYPE OF PROBLEM IN OTHER FORD PRODUCTS.

*NOTE* PROBLEMS AROSE WHEN VEHICLE WAS BOUGHT* VEHICLE BUCKS WHILE IN OD. ALSO VEHICLE MAKES A TICKING/HISSING NOISE. DEALER CANNOT LOCATE NOISE. OD LIGHT FLASHES. REAR RIGHT PASSENGER DOOR IS HARD TO OPEN FROM INSIDE, CONSUMER MUST PULL LATCH TO EXTREME POINT TO OPEN, ALSO WHEN OPEN, AFTER CLOSED DOME AND DOOR AJAR LIGHTS STAY ON. FORD REFUSES TO FIX. LIGHTER WHILE IN USE WAS PUSHED THROUGH DASH, UNIT AND ALL. PLASTICS MELTED. VEHICLE ALSO GETS 7 MPG HIGHWAY, BUT IS SUPPOSED TO GET 14. EFI CLEANED, HIGHER GRADE FUEL USED, ECT. AND STLL GETS BAD MILEAGE. - UPDATE- TRANSMISSION BUCKING CAUSED VEHICLE TO HIT PARKED CAR BEHIND VEHICLE WHEN ACCELARATOR STUCK. SHOULDER DISLOCATED. REAR ENTERTAINMENT HEADPHONE JACK 1 BROKEN WHEN BOUGHT, DEALER REFUSES TO REPLACE. ON OCCASION WHILE TURN SIGNALS ARE IN USE, SMOKE OMITTS FROM HAZARD SWITCH ON STEERING CONSOLE. VEHICLE'S REAR WIPER ARM SNAPPED IN HALF WHILE IN USE. IF THIS IS THE BEST FORD CAN BUILD, HENRY FORD MUST BE SPINNING IN HIS GRAVE! *PR. *AK
2000 FORD EXPLORER. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS SMOKE COMES FROM STEERING COLUMN WHEN USING LEFT TURN SIGNAL. TURN LIGHT WOULD FREEZE ON AND ACRID SMOKE COME FROM AROUND HAZARD LIGHT SWITCH AREA. THEN WILL BE OK FOR A WHILE AND COULD NOT RECREATE FOR MECH BUT STILL HAPPENS ON OCCASION UNEXPECTLY. WHERE THERE IS SMOKE THERE IS FIRE.*AK
CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN A SIDE COLLISION ACCIDENT, NEITHER THE 4 AIR BAG DEPLOYED. DEALER AND MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. PH *TT

I CURRENTLY DRIVE A 2000 FORD EXPLORER 6 CYL. 2 WHEEL DRIVE W/ GOODYEAR WRANGLER RT/S TIRES. I WAS RECENTLY NOTIFIED BY MIDAS OF ORLAND PARK AFTER HAVING MY FRONT BRAKES REPLACED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE HAS A BELT THAT HAS SHIFTED. MY TIRES WERE REPLACED DUE TO THE RECALL OF THE FIRESTONE TIRES. AT THAT TIME I HAD ROUGHLY 16,000 MILES ON THE SUV. AT THE PRESENT TIME I HAVE JUST UNDER 40,000 MILES ON THE SUV. I DID NOT NOTICE THAT THE TIRE WAS BAD MAINLY DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE FORD EXPLORER IS A VERY ROUGH RIDE. I DO NOT GO OFF ROADING WITH THIS VEHICLE NOR DO INTENTIALLY HIT LARGE BUMPS OR POT HOLES AT A RAPID SPEED. I AM NOT ONLY DISAPPOINTED WITH THE PERFORMANCE OF THE VEHICLE BUT ALSO WITH THE PERFORMANCE OF THE TIRES. SINCE THE EXPLORER RIDES ROUGH (A SIDE TO SIDE WOBBLING MOTION) I CAN SEE WERE MANY ACCIDENTS OCCURED. THE OWNER OF THE VEHICLE IS UNABLE TO DETECT A DEFAULT IN THE TIRE. THE QUESTION I POSE IS, IS FORD AT FAULT BECAUSE OF THERE INADEQUATE ENGINEERING AND UNSTABE SUSPENSION OR IS GOODYEAR AT FAULT FOR THE MANUFACTURING OF FAULTY TIRES?
