EVEN WITH A FULL TANK OF GAS THE GAS GAUGE WILL GO TO "0" AND THE "CHECK GAUGE" LIGHT COMES ON BECAUSE THE SENDER ASSEMBLY UNIT OF THE GAS GAUGE DOES NOT WORK. WHEN WE TOOK OUR EXPLORER TO DUB MILLER FORD IN ROSENBERG ON NOV. 19TH, THERE HAD BEEN ANOTHER 2002 EXPLORER BROUGHT IN FOR THE SAME PROBLEM THAT MORNING. THE PART IS NOT AVAILABLE AND IS ON BACK ORDER. THE PART COST $76.79 BUT THE LABOR WILL BE $270! THIS IS A LOT OF MONEY FOR US TO PAY DUE TO AN FORD'S EGINEERING PROBLEM. MY TRANSMISSION FAILED IN MY 2002 FORD EXPLORER V-8 EDDIE BAUER EDITION. IT'S 2 WEEKS OVER THE WARRANTY PERIOD, BUT HAS ABOUT 35000 MILES ON IT, SO IT'S UNDER THE 36000 MILEAGE. FORD WON'T COVER THE REPAIR EVEN THOUGH MY CAR HAS BEEN PROPERLY MAINTAINED.*AK

TRUCK WELL MAINTAINED AT 59,000 MILES TRUCK BROKE AN ENGINE ROD NEED NEW ENGINE, COST $4800.00, REPLACING ENGINE. I THINK FORD SHOULD PAY FOR THIS.*AK
I HAVE OWNED A 2002 FORD EXPLORER FOR 27 MONTHS. DURING THAT TIME I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS ISSUES WITH THE AUTO TRANSMISSION DELAYING BEFORE ENGAGING INTO REVERSE AND NOT SMOOTHLY GOING INTO FORWARD GEARS WHEN TRAVELLING. THE DEALER HAS TUNED THE TRANSMISSION 3 TIMES AND NOW AT 109,000 HWY MILES I NEED A NEW TRANMISSION FOR $3,000 USD. THIS TRANMISSION HAS RECEIVED NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS IN THE NHTSA DATABASE AND HAS ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT WHERE I HIT ANOTHER CAR WHEN REVERSE ENGAGED AFTER 3 SECONDS. I HAVE ALREADY SPENT IN EXCESS OF $500 ON THIS TRANSMISSION AND THE FIRST MAINTENANCE OCCURRED AT 32,000 MILES. IN ADDITION, THE AXLE SEALS CONTINUE TO LEAK AFTER BEING REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES AND PER MY DEALER SOURCES ARE A DESIGN FLAW. NHTSA NEEDS TO GET THIS PUBLIC BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED WITH THE TRANSMISSION ISSUES AND HAVE FORD CORRECT THEIR DESIGN FLAW ON THE AXLE.

TRANSMISSION WILL NOT SHIFT TO OVERDRIVE. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED ON FIVE OCCASIONS. THE OVER DRIVE LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND THE BAND WOULD BURN UP. *SC
ORIGINALLY INFORMED FORD DEALER OF LOUD SHUDDER IN VEHICLE UPON STARTING WHEN COLD AT ABOUT 11,000 MILES AND WAS TOLD THAT IS "NORMAL" FOR THIS TRANSMISSION AND THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT CAUSES IT--"KEEP ON DRIVING IT." TRANSMISSION OVER-DRIVE LIGHT BEGAN TO FLICKER AT ABOUT 69,400 MILES. FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT LOOKED INTO THE PROBLEM AND HAD THE VEHICLE FOR REPAIR FOR OVER THREE WEEKS. REPORTED BROKEN SEAL IN TRANS AND WORN TORQUE CONVERTER. TROUBLE "LOCKING OUT" AFTER REPAIR SO THEY REPLACED THE WARPED VALVE BODY.
DASHLIGHT ILLUMINATES, DOOR CHIME SOUNDS AND AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS ENGAGE INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO MULTIPLE DEALERS AND HAVE HAD MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS TO RECTIFY YET THE ISSUE HAS YET TO BE RESOLVED.*AK
UPON PARKING THE VEHICLE AND RETURNING BACK TO START IT UP LEVER WHICH CHANGED THE GEARS BROKE INSIDE THE STEERING COLUMN. TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT IT. *AK THE KEY BECAME STUCK IN THE IGNITION AND THE SHIFTER BROKE AT THE COLUMN BECAUSE THE STEERING SHAFT BROKE. *NM

BOUGHT THE CAR IN JULY 2004 AT AROUND 50,000 MILES. HEARD A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM REAR OF THE TRUCK. CURRENTLY, THE NOISE HAS PROCEEDED TO THE FRONT. I HAVE NOT REPLACED ANYTHING BECAUSE I REALLY DON'T KNOW WHAT I AM GOING TO HAVE TO CHANGE. I WAS WONDERING IF THERE IS GOING TO BE A RECALL ON THIS TRUCK. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. WHILE SHIFTING GEARS THE VEHICLE VIBRATED UNCONTROLLABLY. THE CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND PULLED OVER. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *JB
MY CHILDREN AND I WENT TO THE BOWLING ALLEY AND MY SON WENT TO THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE TO GET HIS BOWLING BALL BAG AND WHEN HE WENT TO CLOSE THE LIFTGATE IT SHIFTED TO THE LEFT AND EXPLODED AROUND HIM. I TOOK VEHICLE TO FRITTS FORD SATURDAY TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT FORD WAS NOT RESPONSIBLE BECAUSE THE GLUE HOLDING THE HINGE WAS STILL THERE AND THAT THERE WAS DAMAGE ON THE PANEL AND IT HAD BROKEN THE GLASS INSIDE THE PANEL WHERE WE COULD NOT SEE IT. THE DAMAGE HE "SAW" WAS 2 SUPERFICIAL SCRAPES ON THE PAINT, THERE WAS NOT ANY DENTS, CREASES OR BOWING OF ANY KIND TO THE PANEL. EVEN THOUGH I HAD DONE MY RESEARCH ON THIS SITE AND KNEW THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE STRUTS, I COULD TELL THAT THIS MAN WOULD NOT LISTEN TO ME AND I WOULD NOT GET IT REPAIRED THERE. I HAVE SINCE TAKEN MY VEHICLE TO RACEWAY FORD AND AM WAITING FOR THE ADVISOR TO CALL ME BACK. AT RACEWAY THEY ACKNOWLEDGED THERE WAS A RECALL AND SEEM WILLING TO HELP ME. *AK
WHILE DRIVING THE ODD LIGHT STARTED FLASHING, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE CONSUMER HAD TO USE THE MANUAL SHIFT TO GET IT TO THE DEALER AND IT WAS DISCOVERED THE TRANSMISSION IS DEFECTIVE. *JB
TRANSMISSIONS PROBLEM, BEEN TO TWO DEALERS, AND CANT FIX THE PROBLEM. FORD WIL NOT HELP. I FIRST WENT IN BEFORE MY 3-36 WAS UP NOW IM 45 DAYS OVER AND THEY WON'T PAY . IT MISSES UNDER A LOAD AND WHEN PASSING OTHER CARS FEELS VERY UNSAFE . *AK
1.EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE -ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION WHILE HAVING MY CAR AT THE DEALER WHILE IN WARRANTY I MADE NOTE TO THE SERVICE INDIVIDUAL,THAT SOME THING FELT WRONG WHEN MY CAR WOULD SHIFT IN TO ANOTHER GEAR WHILE MOVING .NOTHING WAS EVER FOUND WRONG OR ANY DOCUMENTATION WAS MADE. 2.FAILURE AND ITS CONSEQUENCES-AS MY VEHICLE REACHED 43,900 MILES MY TRANSMISSION STARTED TO SHIFT EVEN MORE HARDER AND SOMETIMES WOULD NOT GO IN TO GEAR.THE REAR WOULD VIBRATE TO THE POINT WHERE IT SHOOK THE VEHICLE HARD. 3.WHAT WAS DONE TO CORRECT THE FAILURE-WHEN VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER IT WAS QUICKLY BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION THAT MY VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARANTY AND AFTER DIAGONOSING THE PROBLEM THAT THE TRANS ASSY SOLENOID HAD TO BE REPLACED. I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO FIX THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS UP ON A LIFT . THIS COST ME A TOTAL OF $976.91. I FEEL THAT I WAS LED ON UNTIL MY WARRANTY EXPIRED AND THAT FORD SHOULD COVERED THE COST OF THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE THIS IS A FAIRLY NEW VEHICLE AND IT WAS NOT MY FAULT THAT THIS PART WENT BAD.THIS PART SHOULD BE RECALLED.*AK
WHILE TRAVELING AT 20-25 MPH CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONT END COLLISION, AND AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. DRIVER SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES.*AK

WHEN THE CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO PLACE THE GEAR IN PARK, IT BECAME STUCK IN REVERSE. AS A RESULT THE VEHICLE DRIFTED BACKWARDS. NO IMPACT REPORTED. PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *JB

WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED SUDDENLY WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONSUMER APPLIED THE BRAKES, BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. PLEASE FILL IN ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *JB
THIS HAS BEEN A WONDERFUL VEHICLE! IT IS A 2002 FORD EXPLORER EQUIPPED WITH AUTOMATIC 4-WHEEL DRIVE AS WELL AS FULL 4-WHEEL DRIVE WITH HIGH & LOW TRANSFER CASE, 5-SPEED AUTOMATIC, 4.6L V8 WITH DOUBLE OVERHEAD CAMS, LIMITED SLIP REAR DIFFERENTIAL, TOWING PACKAGE, LEATHER SEATS, ETC. HOWEVER, THIS PROBLEM HAS THE POTENTIAL OF CAUSING HARM OR EVEN DEATH TO ITS PASSENGERS AND/OR THOSE IN OTHER CARS AND ESPECIALLY PEDESTRIANS. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN EXTREMELY INTERMITTENT SUCH THAT THE TECHNICIANS CANNOT EXPERIENCE IT THEMSELVES. IT USUALLY HAPPENS ON A COLD DAY. THE FIRST TIME IT DID IT, I WAS PULLING A SMALL TRAILER AND I HAD DRIVEN A COUPLE OF MILES TO A PLANT NURSERY AND ON THE WAY BACK AS I NEARED MY HOUSE, I DROVE DOWN A LONG GRADE TOWARD A STOP SIGN. WHEN I BEGAN TO APPLY THE BRAKES, THE ENGINE ACCELERATED WITH SUCH FORCE THAT THE TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTED SO THAT I HAD TO STAND ON THE BRAKES WITH BOTH FEET TO KEEP FROM RUNNING CLEAN ACROSS THE ROAD INTO A TREE. IT HAPPENED 2 MORE TIMES THAT DAY. I THEN HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE IDLE VALVE. HOWEVER, THAT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. IT HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES SENSE. IT HAS HAPPENED WHILE TRAVELING UP A HILL, DOWN A HILL, AND ON LEVEL GROUND. BUT IT ALWAYS HAPPENS WHEN YOU APPLY THE BRAKES. THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED, IT THREW ME OUT INTO A BUSY INTERSECTION BUT FORTUNATELY I WAS NOT HIT. THE TIME BEFORE THAT IT TRIED TO RUN OVER THE LITTLE CAR IN FRONT OF ME BUT I WAS STILL ABLE TO STOP IT. I'M THINKING ABOUT NAMING THIS SUV CHRISTINE. MY BROTHER HAS AN EARLY 2002 EXPLORER EQUIPPED THE SAME AS MINE AND HIS HAS DONE IT ONCE. MY MOTHER HAS A 1998 CROWN VICTORIA WITH THIS SAME ENGINE AND IT HAS DONE IT TWICE. THERE'S NO TELLING HOW MANY "CHRISTINES" OUT THERE WAITING TO KILL AND THERE POOR OWNERS MAY NOT BE TOTALLY AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. *JB

THE PARTS TO PERFORM THE REAR LIFTGATE RECALL 04V442000 HAS'NT BEEN AVAILABLE FOR 3 MONTHS, AND THE DEALERSHIP DIDN'T KNOW WHEN THEY WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. *JB
CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER FOR THE REAR WINDOW LIFTGATE. THE PARTS HAVE NOT BEEN RECEIVED BY THE DEALER. LIFTGATE BRACKET NHTSA 04V442000. *AK
CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE. HOWEVER, CONSUMER WAS STILL WAITING FOR PARTS, AND RECALL REPAIRS HAD NOT BEEN PERFORMED. *AK
I WAS DRIVING DOWN COUNTY ROAD BRANCH, IT FELT LIKE I WAS DRIVING ON A BUMPY ROAD (WHAT IT FEELS LIKE WHEN YOUR TIRE GOES FLAT) I TURNED ON LATERAL B SOUTH, THEN IT GOT WORSE, SO I STOPPED AND CHECKED ALL TIRES, THEY WERE ALL OKAY, THEN I START DRIVING 20 FEET FURTHER THEN I STOPPED AGAIN, MY OLDEST SON TOOK OF THE HUB AND DISCOVERED 3 OUT OF 5 BOLTS WITH LUG NUTS WERE BROKE OFF IN THE RIGHT REAR PASSENGER HUB. *NM
COMPLETE FAILURE OF TRANSMISSION WITHOUT ANY WARNING AT LOW MILEAGE.*AK
FRONT PASSENGER WINDOW (AUTOMATIC WINDOWS) STOPPED WORKING. MY EXPLORER WAS JUST A LITTLE OVER THE MILEAGE LIMIT ON THE WARRANTY. I TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD COST OVER $300 TO REPAIR. THE MODULATOR IN THE WINDOW HAD FAILED. I CALLED FORD AND THEY AGREED TO THE REPAIR FOR $100. THAT SATISFIED ME. NOW, THE SAME THING HAS HAPPENED WITH THE REAR PASSENGER WINDOW. IF I USED THESE TWO WINDOWS EXCESSIVELY, I COULD SEE SOMETHING POSSIBLY HAPPENING. BUT, I DON'T - I'M THE ONLY OCCUPANT OF THIS VEHICLE 98% OF THE TIME. IS THERE ANYTHING THAT I CAN DO TO GET FORD TO REPAIR THIS OBVIOUSLY DEFECTIVE PART?

THE CONSUMER RECEIVED RECALL CAMPAIGN #04V442000 IN OCTOBER OF 2004 REGARDING THE LIFTGATE. SHE CONTINUED TO CONTACT THE FORD DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER. THE RECALL REPAIRS HAD NOT BEEN PERFORMED AS OF YET BECAUSE THERE WERE NO PARTS. *AK *SC *JB
I HAD 1 WHEEL STUD BREAK AND ORDERED A REPLACEMENT FROM DEALER. WHEEL STUDS ONLY COME IN PACKS OF 5. WHEEL STUD REPLACED AND ABOUT 4 MONTHS LATER 2 MORE BROKE SIMULTANEOUSLY.
VEHICLE STALLED AT LOW SPEED OF 5 MPH OR LESS WHILE DRIVING. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, WHO REPLACED # 41 FUSE UNDER THE HOOD. WITHIN A FEW DAYS THE PROBLEM RECURRED ON 4 SEPARATE OCCASIONS. DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM.*AK
CONSUMER EXPERIENCED PROBLEMS WITH THE REAR UPPER WINDOW LOCKING AND UNLOCKING FOR NO REASON WHILE DRIVING. CONSUMER HAS FOUR CHILDREN AND WAS SCARE D SOMETHING WILL HAPPEN TO THE CHILDREN. VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED AT TWO DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP 4 TIMES, AND COULD NOT DUPLICATE OR CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *AK
WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED CONSUMER WAS CLOSING THE REAR HATCH AND THE ENTIRE WINDOW SHATTERED. CONSUMER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, AND ALTHOUGH THE BALL AND SOCKET JOINT TO THE HATCH WINDOW WAS RECALLED, MANUFACTURER REFUSED TO ASSIST CONSUMER UNLESS A WAIVER WAS SIGNED SO THAT CONSUMER WILL NOT SUE THE MANUFACTURER. CONSUMER REFUSED TO SIGN WAIVER, BUT WOULD ONLY LIKE TO GET THE DEFECT REPAIRED. THIS OCCURRED PRIOR TO CONSUMER RECEIVING NOTIFICATION NOT TO OPEN THE HATCH AFTER THIS DEFECT HAPPENED. *AK

THE REAR LIFTGATE WINDOW ASSEMBLY CAME COMPLETELY OUT OF THE FRAME. VEHICLE WAS IMMOBILE AT THE TIME OF THE OCCURRENCE. CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALER, WHO WAS UNABLE TO ASSIST THE CONSUMER. VEHICLE WAS 2000 MILES OVER WARRANTY. *AK
WE OWN A FORD EXPLORER IN MY WIFE'S NAME DIANA GIRALDO. ON SUNDAY 9/19/2004 SHE OPENED THE BACK LIFTGATE AND THE HINGE BROKE AND THE TOP HALF (GLASS ) OF THE LIFTGATE ALMOST CAME DOWN ON HER. THE SUV WAS BROUGHT BACK TO FULLERTON FORD IN SOMERVILLE NJ WHERE IT WAS BOUGHT IN MAY OF THIS YEAR. THEY CHARGED US FOR REPAIRS AND THE PART ALSO FOR A LOANER CAR WHILE THEY WERE REPAIRING IT. IT TURNS OUT THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS WHICH I FOUND ON YOUR WEB SITE. FORD MOTOR COMPANY WAS CALLED AND THEY SAID THE RECALL LETTERS HAVEN'T WENT OUT YET SO WE WOULD HAVE TO PAY. THEY ONLY REPLACED THE HINGE AND NOT THE LIFTGATE STRUTS WHICH WAS THE PARTS IN THE RECALL ALSO. RECALL NUMBER 04V442000 ON YOUR SITE , FORD RECALL NUMBER 04S20 *AK
I OPENED THE REAR WINDOW ON MY 2002 FORD EXPLORER AND THE LEFT SHOCK CAME LOOSE. WENT TO A CAR DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT FIXED. IT HAS COME UNDONE TWICE SINCE THAT TIME. EEDS TO BE ON A RECALL.*AK
