MY DAUGHTER AND I WERE INVOLVED IN AN AUTO ACCIDENT IN MY 2002 FORD EXPLORER WHEN ANOTHER VEHICLE PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF US. I WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH PRIOR TO SLAMMING ON MY BRAKES. THE EMS DRIVER ESTIMATED IMPACT AT 40 MPH. MY VEHICLE SUSTAINED $6600+ IN DAMAGES TO THE FRONT END. NEITHER THE DRIVER NOR PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED. THE EMS DRIVER AND THE WRECKER SAID GIVEN THE DAMAGE TO THE FRONT END OF MY VEHICLE THE AIR BAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED. THE EMS DRIVER ALSO SAID IT WAS TYPICAL OF A FORD TO HAVE THE AIR BAGS MALFUNCTION. I SUSTAINED NECK AND LOW BACK INJURIES INCLUDING DAMAGE TO 4 DISC IN MY SPINE ACCORDING TO THE MRI REPORT. MY DAUGHTER SUSTAINED INJURIES TO HER RIGHT SHOULDER, RADIOLOGICAL TESTING IS SCHEDULED FOR LATER THIS MONTH TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF HER PAIN AND LOSS OF MOTION. SHE HAS ALSO SUFFERED WITH LOW BACK PAIN. I ASKED THE MECHANIC RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIRS ON MY VEHICLE AT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE ABOUT THE AIR BAGS AND WAS NOT GIVEN MUCH OF AN ANSWER. HE BASICALLY SAID THE DAMAGE DID NOT GO FAR ENOUGH INTO THE ENGINE AREA FOR THE SENSORS TO PICK UP THE CRASH. GIVEN THE DAMAGE TO MY FRONT END AND THE NEED FOR REPLACEMENT OF MULTIPLE PARTS UNDER THE HOOD OF MY CAR AND THE INJURIES SUSTAINED I DID NOT FIND THIS TO BE AN ACCEPTABLE ANSWER.*AK
CONSUMER RECEIVED RECALL 04V442000 CONCERNING REAR LIFTGATE GLASS. DEALER WAS UNABLE TO PERFORM RECALL REPAIRS BECAUSE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. *AK.....*AK
DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION AT 39,500 MILES. DEALER AND CONSUMER SPLIT THE EXPENSES. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONT END COLLISION. UPON IMPACT, AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, AND NO AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT APPEARED PRIOR TO THE CRASH. *AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN HE DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. THE RPMS WOULD RISE WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED. BECAUSE OF THE FAILURE, THE CONTACT WAS INVOLVED IN TWO ACCIDENTS. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AS A RESULT. NO POLICE REPORTS WERE FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP SO THE DEALER COULD INSPECT THE BRAKES BUT THE DEALER COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 43,500. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 30,000.
ON MAY 15, 2004 WHILE AT A WALMART IN NIAGARA FALLS, NEW YORK, THE REAR HATCH HINGE BOLT ON MY WIFE'S 2002 FORD EXPLORER SHEARED OFF AND FELL ON HER HEAD CAUSING A CONCUSSION AND OTHER RELATED INJURIES. *AK PE04045_PCO
WHILE DRIVING IT WAS HARD FOR THE CONSUMER TO SHIFT GEARS MANUALLY. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM.*AK
RECALL 01L010000, DRIVER'S SIDE LIFTGATE BRACKET SNAPPED, CAUSING THE GLASS TO SHATTER. DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT REPAIR THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO VIN. *AK PE04045.PCO
THE ABS ACTIVATED WHILE ON A DRY PAVEMENT ANDTHE VEHICLE LOST BRAKING POWER. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER, WHO KEPT INSISTING THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. HOWEVER, THE CONSUMER FELT DIFFERENTLY ABOUT THE DEALERS EVALUATION. *AK THE CONSUMERS BROTHER VERIFIED THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG, BUT COULD NOT TAKE IT APART TO CHECK IT OUT BECAUSE OF WARRANTY ISSUES AND THE ENGINE EXPERIENCED A MISS. THE MASTER CYLINDER WAS FOUND BAD. *SC *JB
THE ABS ENGAGED WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO JERK, AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE WAS REAR ENDED. NO INJURIES REPORTED. *AK THIS WOULD OCCUR EVEN THOUGH THE BRAKES WERE NOT TOUCHED. *SC *JB
TWO DIFFERENT TIMES, BOTH STOPPING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE ACCELERATOR KEPT GOING. STOMPED ON THE BRAKE AS HARD AS POSSIBLE, FINALLY HAD TO TURN OFF THE KEY. TOOK THE 2002 FORD EXPLORER TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG.
THERE IS A TWO TO THREE INCH CRACK IN MY BACK HATCH DOOR IN MY 2002 FORD EXPLORER XLT. IT IS IN THE BODY WORK RIGHT TO THE LEFT OF THE WINDSHIELD WIPER. I CALLED FORD AT LEAST THREE TIMES AND ASKED IF THEY WOULD RESOLVE THIS FORM ME AS I FELT NEVER SHOULD A CRACK IN THE BODY OF A VEHICLE OCCUR. THEY SAID THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL EACH TIME I CALLED AND THAT I SHOULD CHECK BACK. THAT'S AS FAR AS THEY WOULD GO. I WAS DRIVING ONE DAY AND SAW ANOTHER EXPLORER WITH A WORSE CRACK THAN MY OWN. I DO NOT HAVE THIS PERSON'S INFORMATION AS I HAVE MISPLACED IT. I TALKED WITH MY OWN VEHICLE PLACE (FRED BEAN'S OF WEST CHESTER) WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND THEY WILL NOT HANDLE THE PROBLEM WITHOUT CHARGING ME. I DO NOT FEEL I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR SUCH AN INCIDENT AS THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO CREATE THE PROBLEM. A COUPLE YEARS AGO WHEN I HAD THE HINGE ISSUE TAKEN CARE OF THEN IT WASN'T TOO LONG AFTER THAT THE ISSUE AROSE. I CAN ONLY ASSUME THAT THE IMPACT OF CLOSING THIS HATCH WITH WEAK OR IMPROPERLY INSTALLED HINGES MAY HAVE CAUSED THIS CRACK. WHEN I SPOKE WITH SOMEONE AT THE FORD PLACE, THE PERSON OF WHOM REMAINS ANONYMOUS FOR OBVIOUS REASONS, SAID TO ME THAT THEY HAVE SEEN ABOUT 10-100 OTHER VEHICLES COME IN TO THEIR PLACE ALONE WITH THIS SAME ISSUE AND NO ONE WOULD DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I OWN A 2002 FORD EXPLORER 4 DOOR. THE REAR LEFT WINDOW WAS FAILING TO GO DOWN, AND WHEN IT DID IT WOULD TAKE TIME FOR IT TO GO BACK UP AGAIN. MY MOTHER PURCHASED A 2003 FORD EXPLORER AS WELL AND MY NIECE AND THEY TOO EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. I ALSO HAD PROBLEMS WITH MY AIR LEAKING AND WAS INFORMED THAT SOME FORM OF AN INVISIBLE GAS WAS LEAKING INTO MY VEHICLE. I HAVE AN INFANT DAUGHTER AND WAS CONCERNED THAT SHE WAS BREATHING THIS.*AK
THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT FROM PARK TO DRIVE. IT TURNS OUT THAT THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL SHORT CAUSING FUSES TO BLOW WHILE DRIVING. THE FUSE THAT HAD BLOWN MOST WAS THE FUSE FOR MY BRAKE LIGHTS. I WAS DRIVING WITHOUT BRAKE LIGHTS SEVERAL TIMES, UNKNOWINGLY. THE FIRST DEALERSHIP THAT I TOOK THE VEHICLE HAD THE TRUCK FOR 3 DAYS AND SAID THAT THE ALARM SYSTEM WAS CAUSING THE SHORT. THE ALARM SYSTEM WAS INSTALLED BY THE SELLING DEALERSHIP. I WAS SENT AWAY FROM THE DEALERSHIP WITH BIGGER (HIGHER AMP) FUSES IN MY FUSE BOX, A FEW EXTRA FUSES, AND THE KNOWLEDGE OF HOW TO OVER-RIDE THE SHIFTER LOCK IF THE FUSE WAS BLOWN. AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE FOR APPROXIMATELY TWO AND A HALF WEEKS, MOST OF THE TIME WITHOUT BRAKE LIGHTS, I WAS ABLE TO TAKE THE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM. THIS DEALERSHIP HAPPENS TO BE ABOUT 90 MILES FROM MY CURRENT RESIDENCE. THE OTHER DEALERSHIP FOUND THE REAL PROBLEM. THE WIRING HARNESS HAD TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE APPARENTLY, SOME OF THE WIRES GOT TOO HOT, MELTED THE INSULATION, AND FUSED THEMSELVES TOGETHER. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE SHOP FOR 9 DAYS. FORD ALSO CLAIMS THAT I SHOULDN'T WORRY ABOUT ANY DAMAGE THAT MAY HAVE BEEN DONE TO THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS IN MY VEHICLE DUE TO THE SHORT AND ONE OF THE DEALERSHIPS PUTTING BIGGER FUSES IN THE FUSE BOX. *JB
WHILE OPENING THE REAR DOOR HINGES BROKE. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE HINGES AND STRUTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, AND REPLACED THEM. HOWEVER, A FEW MONTHS LATER WHILE CLOSING THE REAR DOOR THE GLASS BROKE. NO ONE WAS INJURED. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO DEALER, AND THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE WINDOW. *AK
I BOUGHT MY 2002 EXPLORER IN MAY OF 04. IT ONLY HAS 40,000 MILES AND THERE IS A SEVERE WHINING NOISE IN THE REAR-END. IT WILL ALSO JERK AND SLAP SOMETIMES WHEN I LET OFF OF THE GAS. I ALSO PUT IT IN 4-WHEEL DRIVE AND IF FEELS AND IT SLAPS AND JERKS LIKE THE WHOLE UNDERNEATH IS GOING TO FALL OUT.*AK
WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY FOR TWO HOURS. THE DRIVER STOPPED AT A TOLL BOOTH. SUDDENLY WHITE SMOKE STARTED EMITTING FROM UNDER THE HOOD FOLLOWED BLACK SMOKE. THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE WITHIN SECONDS AND WAS A TOTAL LOST. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT SAYS THE GAS LINE MAY HAVE MELTED THE MANIFOLD. PLEASE DESCRIBE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. *JB
FORD EXPLORER CAUGHT FIRE WHILE DRIVING. *BF THE CONSUMER HAS A REPORT WHICH STATED THE FIRE WAS CAUSED BY A GAS LEAK. *JB *NM
BOUGHT CAR IN JANUARY 2003, WAS A DEALER VEHICLE. WE HAD 54,000 MILES ON IT WHEN I WAS DRIVING IT HOME FROM WORK AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON THE SAME TIME THE EXPLORER STARTED ALMOST BUCKING. THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WAS SHAKING SO BAD THAT I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AS BEST AS I COULD. I CALLED AAA AND AS THEY HAD ME TURN THE VEHICLE AROUND SO IT COULD BE PUT ON THE TRUCK THE ENGINE STOPPED ALL TOGETHER, AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT TURN OVER. AFTER BRINGING IT TO MY MECHANIC I WAS TOLD THAT THE ENGINE HAD SEIZED UP. I CALLED MY LOCAL FORD DEALER WHERE I HAD PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED BECAUSE MY WARRANTY WAS FOR 36,000. I HAVE HAD THE OIL CHANGED ALWAYS ON TIME AND ALSO HAD THE VEHICLE IN FOR ITS FULL MAITENCE CHECK JUST MONTHS BEFORE. COME TO FIND OUT, THE VALVE SPRING IN THE MOTOR BROKE AND CAUSED THE ENGINE TO SEIZE. I HAD TO ORDER A NEW ENGINE FROM FORD AND BETWEEN THE ENGINE AND LABOR IT COST ME CLOSE TO $3,900. WHEN I CALLED THE FORD COMPANY, BECAUSE I GOT NOWHERES WITH MY LOCAL FORD DEALER I WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING FOR ME. IF A RECALL WAS TO EVER COME ABOUT THEN I SHOULD SAVE MY RECEIPTS. I HAVE PICTURES OF THE ENGINE TO PROVE WHAT HAD HAPPENED IF I EVER NEED THEM. THE WAY I LOOK AT IT, I HAVE MORE MILES, BECAUSE OF MY JOB, THAN OTHERS DO ON A 2002. IT'S JUST A MATTER OF TIME UNTIL OTHERS HAVE THIS HAPPEN. MY LOCAL FORD COMPANY SAYS ITS A FLUKE. NICE REASON HAH? TO ME A $3,900. FLUKE IS NOTHING TO LAUGH ABOUT!*AK
I LIFTED THE TOP PORTION OF THE TAILGATE TO RETRIEVE ITEMS FROM CAR. AS IT LIFTED, THE BOLT THAT HINGES THE RIGHT TOP SIDE OF THE TAILGATE BROKE OFF, THE HYDROLIC PORTION LET GO AND THE TAILGATE CAME DOWN ON MY HEAD. I WAS UNABLE TO CLOSE THE TAILGATE AFTER THAT, AND IT WAS HANGING DOWN ON AN ANGLE, UNDRIVEABLE AS IT CONTINUED TO FALL FURTHER DOWN AND MAKE "CRACKING" NOISES. IT IS CURRENTLY BEING FIXED, HOWEVER FORD IS NOT TOO CONCERNED! MY CAR IS 500 MILES OVER WARRANTY (1 1/2 YEARS OLD), AND THEY SAY I AM RESPONSIBLE TO PAY A PORTION OF THIS BILL.*AK PE04045_PCO
THE TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTIONED. AS A RESULT, WHEN APPLYING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL THE VEHICLE REVVED AND ROLLED INTO A BUSY INTERSECTION. PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *JB
CONSUMER STATED THAT GEAR SHIFT BROKE OFF, PREVENTING CONSUME R FROM DRIVING THE VEHICLE. ALSO, ELECTRIC WINDOWS BROKE, ONE AT A TIME. *AK
WHILE DRIVING SPEEDOMETER WOULD BE OFF BY 6 MPH. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK THE VEHICLE WAS NOT IN COMPLIANCE WITH FEDERAL LAW 49 CFR CHAPTER III SECTION 393.82 FOR THE SPEEDOMETER WHICH STATES REASONABLE ACCURACY IS WITHIN +/- 5 MPH AT A SPEED OF 50 MPH. THE CONSUMER NOTIFIED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE OF THE PROBLEM AND ASKED THEM TO COMPLY WITH THE ABOVE CODE. THE CUSTOMER WAS DENIED THIS SERVICE.
THE AUTOMATIC GEAR SHIFT BROKE. COULD NOT CHANGE GEARS. ELECTRIC WINDOWS STOPPED WORKING BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER. AIR CONDITIONER BROKE - AIR CONDITIONER CLUTCH MAKE RUBBING NOISE WHEN ENGAGED.
I WAS OPENING THE DOOR TO GET MY DAUGHTERS DIAPER BAG AND HINGE BROKE. MY HUSBAND WAS TRYING TO PUT IT BACK AND THE GLASS SHATTERED IN HIS HANDS. MY DAUGHTER AND I WERE STANDING NEXT TO THE VEHICLE AS THE GLASS SHATTERED. THIS COULD HAVE TAKEN MY ENTIRE FAMILIES EYE SIGHT. THE GLASS LITERALLY EXPLODED. THIS ISSUE IS DEFINITELY UNSAFE!!! ESPECIALLY WHEN THERE ARE YOUNG CHILDREN AROUND. AND MOTHERS ARE OPENING UP THE HATCH TO GET OUT A DIAPER BAG WITH A CHILD IN HAND. PLEASE NOTE THIS IS THE SECOND TIME WE HAVE HAD A PROBLEM WITH THIS HATCH. WE TOOK IT TO FORD. THIS SHOULD BE A MANDATORY SAFETY RECALL.*AK PE04045_PCO
THE FRONT AND REAR TIRES DEVELOPED CUTS ON THE SIDE. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER FOR REPLACEMENT TIRES. *AK UPDATED *EH *JB
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AT APPROXIMATELY 39000 MILES. DIAGNOSTIC CODE P0174. NO LEAKS PRESENT. CODES CLEARED. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT RECURRED AT 42000 MILES. DIAGNOSED AS FAILURE OF BOTH EXHAUST GAS OXYGEN SENSOR 063028 AND SENSOR ASSY 021675. FORD MOTOR REFUSED REIMBURSEMENT FOR DEFECTIVE PARTS.*AK
I HAVE A 2002 EXPLORER WITH AROUND 67,XXX MILES. THE PROBLEM FIRST STARTED OUT WITH A LOUD "POP" SOUND WHEN ENGAGING IN REVERSE. THEN WHILE DRIVING MY OVERDRIVE OFF LIGHT STARTED FLASHING LIKE CRAZY AND NOT WANTING TO SHIFT. HAVE GOTTEN SEVERAL ESTIMATES ON FIXING THIS PROBLEM AND WE ARE LOOKING AT ABOUT $1,500-2,000 TO GET THIS ALL TAKEN CARE OF. AFTER READING THAT THIS IS A REPEAT COMPLAINT FROM SEVERAL OTHER OWNERS OF THIS 2002 EXPLORER, I PERSONALLY FEEL THAT THIS IS THE FAULT OF THE MANUFACTURER AND THAT THEY SHOULD FIX THIS PROBLEM!*AK
APRIL 04, THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON FLASHING 3 TIMES (3 BLINKS EACH TIME) AND THEN WOULD REMAIN ON. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP HERE AT FREEPORT JET WASH WHILE THE CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND THE WARRANTY WAS FINISHING IN JUNE. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR IN THEY HOOKED IT UP TO THE COMPUTER THEN SIMPLY SAID WE HAVE RESETTED THE CONTROL SYSTEM IN THE CAR AND IF THE LIGHT COMES BACK ON TO BRING IT BACK!~~~ WELL, DIDN'T LAST TOO LONG AND IT CAME BACK ON BUT THIS IS A COUPLE WEEKS LATER AND NOW THEY TELL ME MY WARRANTY IS UP BUT I TOLD THEM THEY WERE AWARE OF THIS BEFORE THE WARRANTY EXPIRED - LONG STORY SHORT THEY CHANGED IT AT NO COST TO ME AND SAID FORD APPROVED IT TO BE FIXED UNDER WARRANTY. BUT, THAT DIDN'T SEEM TO FIX THE PROBLEM, THE AIRBAG CAME ON AGAIN A COUPLE WEEKS LATER WHEN THEY HOOKED IT UP AGAIN THEY SAID IT WAS THE SAME CODE AND RESET THE CONTROL SYSTEM IN THE CAR AND TOLD ME TO BRING IT BACK IF IT TURNS ON...WE ALL KNOW WHAT HAPPENED...IT CAME BACK ON...SO THEY SAID THEY WILL CHANGE IT AGAIN BUT THIS TIME NOT ONLY DID IT TAKE 4 MONTHS TO HEAR BACK FROM THEM (ONLY BECAUSE I FINALLY GOT TIRED OF WAITING AND CALLED THEM BACK) ABOUT THE PART BUT NOW THEY TELL ME THAT THE PART WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND THE GUY WHO DID IT SHOULDN'T OF (HE IS NO LONGER WITH THE DEALERSHIP) AND THAT I HAVE TO PAY FOR THE 3RD PRETENSIONER TO BE PUT IN MY CAR AFTER I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET THIS PROBLEM FIXED A YEAR AND A HALF!
I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE WITH 34,000 MILES ON IT IN 2003 AND STILL HAVE IT. BEFORE THE FACTORY WARRANTY WAS UP AT 36,000 MILES AND HAD AN ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY SAID THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANS AND THAT THEY WOULD FIX IT. WITHIN A YEAR LATER I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND TOOK IT BACK TO THE SAME DEALER AND THEY FIRST SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. I COULDN'T DO WITHOUT A VEHICLE SO I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO TAKE IT BACK. ONCE AGAIN THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AND I TOOK IT BACK. THIS TIME THEY DID A COMPLETE REHAUL OF THE TRANS AND SAID EVERYTHING SHOULD BE FINE. THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME ABOUT 900 DOLLARS BECAUSE THERE WAS NO MORE WARRANTY ON IT AND THE YEAR WARRANTY THEY GAVE ME ON THE FIRST JOB HAD EXPIRED. LUCKILY THEY WORKED WITH ME AND ONLY CHARGED ME A DEDUCTIBLE OF 100. I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER THAT THERE WAS A REASON A 1 YEAR OLD CAR WITH 34K MILES ON IT WAS TRADED IN AND AFTER THIS INCIDENT I FOUND OUT. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH CONSUMER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK
1ST TIME WAS THE REAR HOWLING NOISE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, PRIMARILY DURING ACCELERATION. IT WAS REMEDIED ONCE FOOT WAS OFF THE GAS PEDAL. INNER/OUTER AXLE BEARINGS, RACERS, PINION SEAL WERE REPLACED. 2ND INCIDENT OCCURED LESS THAN 30 DAYS, AND 3000 MILES LATER, WHEN THE TRUCK DECIDED TO PULL ME FROM 75 MPH TO 25 MPH IN SECONDS. THERE WAS A MAJOR LEAK UNDER THE REAR AXLE, AND THE TRUCK REQUIRED TOWING. THERE WAS A MAJOR REPLACEMENT TO THE REAR END, DO NOT HAVE THE DOCUMENTATION AT HAND, BUT IT WAS EXPENSIVE. NOW, 2 YEARS LATER, 30000 MILES LATER, THE REAR END NEEDS AN EXPENSIVE PART FOR REPLACEMENT. WHEN I MADE SHARP RIGHT/LEFT HANDED TURNS, THERE WAS A SHUDDER, A GRIND, THAT WAS COMING FROM THE REAR. FORD SERVICE NOTIFIED ME SAME DAY THAT A PACK NEEDS TO BE REPLACED FOR $725, ABOUT THE SAME REGION WHERE ORIGINAL PROBLEMS HAVE OCCURRED. SHOULD I EXPECT TO SEE SIMILAR PROBLEMS CONTINUING DURING THE NEXT 30K MILES? I FEEL THAT I HAVE BEEN PRETTY CARING TO THE VEHICLE BY HAVING IT SERVICED EVERY 3K MILES. DIDN'T SEE THIS COMING. REAR HATCH LIFT ON MY 2002 FORD EXPLORER GLASS SHATTERED WHEN I CLOSED IT AFTER PLACING A DIAPER BAG IN THE BACK I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO TEXAS FORD TO FIND OUT IF THERE WAS A RECALL I WAS TOLD NONE. VEHICLE WAS REAR-ENDED WHILE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. DRIVER AND FRONT PASSENGER SEATS BROKE SENDING FRONT SEAT PASSENGERS BACK. REAR SEAT PASSENGER WAS HIT BY FRONT SEAT PASSENGER SEAT AND BROKE HER JAW IN 3 PLACES. FRONT SEAT PASSENGERS SUFFERED SPLITS IN THEIR HEADS, DRIVER HAD A FRACTURED BACK, AND PASSENGER SUFFERED DIZZINESS AND NECK INJURIES.*AK
I WAS GETTING ONTO I90, FLOORED THE ACCELERATOR TO CATCH UP TO SPEED. THE ACCELERATOR GOT STUCK IN THAT POSITION, AND I COULDN'T GET IT TO STOP. I HAD BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE, AND MY TRUCK WAS STILL DOING 80 MPH. I COULDN'T GET IT TO STOP. I FINALLY PUT THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL, PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE, AND FINALLY GOT MY VEHICLE TO STOP. WHILE I WAS IN THE STOPPED POSITION, MY SPEEDOMETER STILL WAS READING 80. FINALLY IT QUIT ON ITS OWN. I DEFINITELY DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING IT ANYMORE. *NM
WHILE FILLING UP AT THE GAS STATION THE FUEL GAUGE MALFUNCTIONED. THE FUEL TANK REGISTERED A FULL TANK, BUT 12 HOURS LATER, A FALSE READING OCCURRED. CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE FUEL SENDING UNIT DUE TO WORN OUT PARTS. *AK
FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW EXPLODED WHILE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. WHEN THIS OCCURRED A PIECE OF GLASS HIT THE CONSUMER. PASSENGER SIDE WAS UNOCCUPIED AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. THE CAUSE OF THE WIDOW EXPLODING WAS YET TO BE DETERMINED.*AK
WENT TO WASH MY 2002 FORD EXPLORER AND WHEN THE WATER HIT THE WINDSHIELD IT STARTED TO CRACK FROM THE TOP OF THE WINDSHIELD TO ABOUT 3/4 THE WAY DOWN. IT WOULD SEEM TO ME THAT A WINDSHIELD SHOULD BE ABLE TO WITH STAND THIS TYPE OF THING.*AK
O/DLIGHT FLASHING ON PA PIKE, WAS TOLD BY SELLING DEALER TO STOP DRIVING. TOOK TO A FORD DEALER AN HOUR FROM MY HOME . HAD TO RENT A CAR FOR A WEEK AND SPENT $700 TO FIX TRANNY. 3 MONTHS LATER 4 HOURS FROM HOME HAPPENED AGAIN. LOST A WEEK WORK WHILE IT TRANSMISSION WAS TORN DOWN AGAIN, STILL UNDER 12,000 WARRANTY FROM MARCH. SINCE THEN O/D LIGHT HAS FLASHED 4 DIFERENT TIMES, FORD DEALER COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. LAST TIME WENT TO AN INDEPENDENT TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST, HAS SAID $2,000 TO FIX, ALSO THIS TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN A BIG LEMON AND FORD WILL NOT STAND BEHIND IT. I HAD ANOTHER BAUER EXPLORER THAT I TRADED IN WITH 150,000 AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH IT, THIS IS WHY AFTER A CAR I WENT BACK TO THE EXPLORER. HUGE MISTAKE. IT IS TIME TO SEEK AN ALTERNATE FORM OF JUSTICE.*AK

WHILE TRAVELING AT ABOUT 45 MPH, THE THROTTLE ON MY 02 FORD EXPLORER SUDDENLY WOULD NOT RETURN TO IDLE. THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT ON AT THE TIME. THE CAUSE WAS A PLASTIC SHEATHING BETWEEN THE THROTTLE CABLE AND THE EXTERIOR HOUSING OF THE CABLE. I BELIEVE THIS MATERIAL IS USED FOR LUBRICATION? THE MATERIAL APPEARED TO PULL OUT OF THE HOUSING AND BUNCHED UP INSIDE THE DRIVER FOOTWELL. WHEN MY FOOT WAS REMOVED FROM THE PEDAL, IT WOULD NOT RETURN FULLY TO IDLE BECAUSE THIS TAN MATERIAL BUNCHED UP AT THE BASE OF THE HOUSING WHERE THE CABLE COMES THROUGH THE FIREWALL. BY CUTTING THE EXCESS MATERIAL AWAY, I WAS ABLE TO GET THE PEDAL TO RESPOND PROPERLY. THE DEALER REPLACED THE THROTTLE CABLE UNDER WARRANTY.

WHEN USING THE TURN SIGNALS THE CONSUMER NOTICED THAT, THE TURN SIGNALS WOULD WORK INTERMITTENTLY, ALSO THE HAZARDS WOULD DO THE SAME. THE CONSUMER HAD MADE CONTACT WITH THE DEALER ABOUT THIS ISSUE. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *JB
