CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO HAVE THE LIFTGATE BRACKET REPAIRED SINCE NO PARTS WERE DELIVERED TO THE DEALER SINCE RECEIPT OF NHTSA RECALL 04V442000. *AK....CONSUMER WAS ADVISED NOT TO USE TAILGATE WINDOW. HOWEVER THE REMOTE OPERATED WINDOW WAS ONE OF THE REASONS FOR PURCHASING THE FORD EXPLORER. CONSUMER COMPLAINED THAT TO WAIT FOUR MONTHS FOR REPAIRS WAS RADICULOUS. *AK
I BOUGHT A 2003 EXPLORER NEW FROM THE DEALER AND EVER SINCE I HAD THIS VEHICLE IT HAS CLUNKED INTO GEAR FROM PARK TO DRIVE, FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE, AND SOMETIMES WHEN I AM PARKED AND PUT IT IN REVERSE TO PULL OUT OF THE SPOT IT LUNGES BACK FOR NO REASON. I AM AFRAID TO EVEN PARALLEL PARK NOT KNOWING IF IT WILL GO AND LUNGE BACK AND HIT THE CAR BEHIND ME. I HAVE HAD IT TO THE DEALER APPROX. 9 TIMES FOR THE TRANS AND THEY CANT SEEM TO FIX IT. THEY KEEP PULLING AT STRINGS AND CHANGING PARTS AND TRYING TO FIX THE PROBLEM BUT IT HAS NOT BEEN FIXED YET. THIS WAS 1 YEAR AGO AND I AM STILL HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM, THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN HAVING MORE PROBLEMS AS THE YEAR WENT ON AND I CONTINUE TO TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER BUT THEY STILL CANT SEEM TO FIX IT. IT STARTED 10/2003 AND THIS IS 1/2005 AND STILL NOT FIXED... *NM
NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN 04V442000 CONCERNING REAR LIFTGATE GLASS. OWNER RECEIVED NOTIFICATION FROM THE MANUFACTURER IN OCTOBER 2004. OWNER HAS BEEN IN TOUCH WITH THE DEALERSHIP, BUT IS CONSTANTLY BEING TOLD THAT PARTS NEEDED TO REPAIR THE RECALL ARE UNAVAILABLE. *AK
BOUGHT VEHICLE NOV 2002. NO PROBLEMS TILL JAN 2005 AT APPROX 35000 MI. WHINING NOISE COMING FROM REAR END AT 45 - 65 MPH. HOPED PROBLEM WOULD GO AWAY BUT HAS NOT. VEHICLE PAST WARRANTY IN FEB 2005 WHEN BROUGHT IN FOR TAILGATE RECALL AT 37,000. DEALER WOULD NOT LOOK AT PROBLEM. CURRENTLY DRIVING VEHICLE WITH WHINING NOISE.
2ND REAR DIFFERENTIAL NEEDING REPLACEMENT (REPLACED REAR END AND BOTH AXLE BEARINGS). THIS REPLACEMENT AT 73,971 MILES. PREVIOUS REAR DIFFERENTIAL REPLACEMENT ABOUT 12K MILES EARLIER. NEITHER REPLACEMENT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, HOWEVER 2 FAILURES AND THE SECOND AT ONLY 12,000 MILES. *JB
2003 FORD EXPLORER REAR END NOISE STARTED AT ABOUT 30000 MILES. *NM
WHEN THE CONSUMER HIT A DEER AT 35 MPH THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONSUMER CONTINUED TO DRIVE. . PLEASE PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION. *JB AFTER HITTING THE DEER THE AIR BAG GASES DEPLOYED AND SPREAD THROUGHOUT THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE. HOWEVER, THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. AFTER IMPACT, THE AIR BAG INDICATOR LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD REMAINED ILLUMINATED. *TT
WHEELS STUDS (LUG NUTS) KEEP BREAKING. I HAVE REPLACE 4 DIFFERENT WHEELS STUDS WITHIN THE LAST YEAR AND A HALF. THEY EITHER BREAK WHEN TAKING A TIRE OFF OR WHILE TRAVELING. I REPLACED THOSE WHEEL STUDS THAT I NOTICED MISSING OR WHEN HAVING A TIRE REPAIRED.*AK
RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE FOR HINGES ON REAR WINDOW OF HATCH AND WAS ADVISED NOT TO OPEN UNTIL HINGES WERE REPLACED, WHICH WE DID NOT. NOTICED THE FIBER GLASS UNDER THE WINDOW CRACKED FROM THE WINDOW TO BOTTOM OF WHERE WINDOW LIFTS. TOOK TO FORD DEALER AND SERVICE WRITER SAID THE FIBER GLASS WAS NOT COVERED UNDER RECALL BUT HE FELT THE CRACK WAS A RESULT OF HINGE FAILURE. HE OPENED THE REAR WINDOW ON THE HATCH AND WAS UNABLE TO CLOSE IT. THE DEALER HAD TO REPLACE THE HINGES BEFORE WE COULD DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THE SERVICE WRITER HAS SENT A REQUEST FOR FORD TO REPAIR THE FIBER GLASS UNDER THE GLASS BUT DON'T KNOW IF THEY WILL. I AM CONVINCED THIS DAMAGE IS A DIRECT RESULT OF THE DEFECTIVE HINGE AND FEEL THAT FORD SHOULD REPAIR MY VEHICLE. *JB

WHINING NOISE COMING FROM REAR BECAME LOUDER 41,000 MILE ON ODO DEALER ADVISED REAR WHEEL BEARINGS SEALS AND STRUT INSERTS, WE HAD THE REPAIRS MADE $1000.00 ONE YEAR LATER WE NOTICED MORE NOISE AND CHATTER WHEN TURNING,DEALER ADVISED REAR DIFFERENTIAL NEEDS REBUILD, AND NEW CLUTCH PACKS. WE ARE HAVING THE REPAIRS MADE AT THIS TIME. THESE ARE EXPENSIVE PROBLEMS FORD SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE. *JB

WE HAVE A 2003 FORD EXPLORER-WHEN YOU SHIFT FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE-LIKE BACKING OUT OF A DRIVEWAY AND THEN PUTTING INTO DRIVE VEHICLE DOESNT MOVE FOR A WHILE-IF YOU TRY TO GIVE IT GAS ENGINE REVS UP AND THEN SLAMS INTO DRIVE--IN THE MEANTIME YOU ARE WONDERING IF THE CAR COMING AROUND THE CORNER IS GOING TO REAR END YOU AND CAUSE INJURY TO YOUR FAMILY AND DAMAGE TO YOUR VEHICLE--BEEN IN THE SHOP SEVERAL TIMES-PUT SEVERAL PARTS IN TRANS STILL THE SAME. *AK

A ROARING NOISE WAS COMING FROM THE FRONT OF MY 2003 EXPLORER AND AN INSPECTION AT THE DEALER CAME UP AS POOR TIRE WEAR. THE TIRES WERE ROTATED BUT THE NOISE NEVER WENT AWAY, IT WAS JUST SLIGHTLY QUIETED THEN BECAME PROGRESSIVELY LOUDER OVER THE PAST EIGHT MONTHS. I HAD IT INTO AN OIL CHANGE STATION AND A TIRE DEALER BEFORE TAKING IT BACK TO ANOTHER FORD DEALER AND WAS TOLD ON NOVEMBER 22,2004 THAT THE PROBLEM WAS A FRONT WHEEL BEARING GONE BAD. I NOW NEED THAT PART REPAIRED AND MY VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY. I HAVE NOT HAD THE WORK DONE YET BUT THE ESTIMATED REPAIR COST IS $400. I DO NOT FEEL THIS PART SHOULD BE IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT AT THIS TIME. THE VEHICLE IS LESS THAN TWO YEARS OLD. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FREQUENTLY MALFUNCTIONED. WHEN HE WOULD SHIFT INTO REVERSE OR DRIVE, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND. HE WOULD HAVE TO WAIT TEN MINUTES FOR THE TRANSMISSION TO ENGAGE OR EVEN SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE AND TRY AGAIN. EVERYTIME THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, THEY COULD NEVER DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. AFTER A DIAGNOSTIC WAS PERFORMED, THE DEALER COULD NOT FIND ANY FAILURES. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AT LEAST 5-6 TIMES FOR THE FAILURE, BUT WAS NOT GIVEN ANY EXPLANATION. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 62,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 20,000.
AT 8000+ MILES IN JANUARY 2004, MY DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT HEATER BROKE. I TURNED THE CAR IN TO THE LOCAL DEALER SERVICE SHOP FOR REPAIR. SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY THE DEALER REPLACED THE FAULTY COMPONENT, A SHORTED SWITCH. I USED THE SEAT HEATER FOR APPROXIMATELY TWO AND A HALF MORE MONTHS UNTIL IT GOT WARM. NOW IT'S NOVEMBER 2004 AND I WENT TO USE THE SEAT HEATER, AND AGAIN IT IS BROKEN. THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT IT IS THE SAME PROBLEM THAT OCCURRED IN JANUARY. HOWEVER, SINCE I TRAVEL A LOT IN MY VEHICLE, IT IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND THE PART'S WARRANTY HAS ALSO EXPIRED, 12 MONTH/12000 MILE. MY COMPLAINT IS THAT SINCE THE SAME PART BROKE WITH LIMITED USE, THE DEALER JUST TREATED THE SYMPTOM OF THE PROBLEM AND NOT THE CAUSE. BY REPLACING THE SWITCH, THEY DIDN'T FIND OUT EXACTLY WHAT CAUSED IT'S FAILURE AND THEREFORE DIDN'T FIX MY VEHICLE WHILE IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY. NOW THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME FOR FIXING THE SEAT HEATER AGAIN.*AK
GLASS IS LITERALLY HANGING FROM THE FRONT PASSANGER WINDOW FRAME. THIS IS RESULTING IN OBSTRUCTION OF VISION.
RCALL 04V442000 CONCERNING REAR LIFTGATE GLASS: CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO GET THIS RECALL HONORED BY THE DEALER BECAUSE NO PARTS WERE AVAILABLE.*AK
ON DECEMBER, 11, 2004, MY 10 YEAR OLD SON WENT TO OPEN THE BACK HATCH OF OUR 2003 FORD EXPLORER. ON TRYING TO CLOSE THE HATCH, THE LEFT HINGE HOLDING THE GLASS PART BROKE, DROPPING THE GLASS BUT HELD ONTO BY MY SON. ON TRYING TO PLACE THE GLASS IN A SECURE POSITION TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE BACK HOME, THE GLASS EXPLODED AND LACERATED MY OLDER SON'S EYE WHO WAS HELPING TO TRY AND CORRECT THE ISSUE. THE TEAR TO HIS UPPER EYELID WAS EXTENSIVE ENOUGH TO REQUIRE A HOSPITAL VISIT AND 7 STITCHES. FORD IS NOW GIVING ME THE RUN AROUND THAT I WOULD NOT EXPECT ESPECIALLY SINCE MY COMPLAINT IS BASED ON A FAULTY HINGE (RECALLED BUT IN SUPPLY LIMBO), BROKEN GLASS AND AN INJURY TO A MINOR. ALL I WANTED WAS THE CAR TO BE FIXED AND SECURE A LONER CAR. UNBELIEVEABLE THAT THEY WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY.*AK
THE FRONT DRIVER'S SEAT BELT WILL NOT RETRACT BACK, AND THE SEAT BELT WOULD BE TO LOOSE FOR THE CONSUMER TO WEAR. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
I AM THE OWNER OF A 2003 FORD EXPLORER. I HAD PROBLEMS WITH MY TRANSMISSION ENGAGING PROPERLY AND THE TRANSMISSION MAKING A LOUD NOISE WHEN SHIFTING FROM PARK TO REVERSE WHETHER THE VEHICLE WAS HOT OR COLD. THE TRANSMISSION DID THIS INTERMITENTLY FOR A WEEK OR SO UNTIL I TOOK IT INTO A DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG. I DROVE IT FOR ANOTHER WEEK WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS. THE VEHICLE WOULD LURCH IN MID-ACCELERATION AT ANY SPEED AND WOULD LUNGE WHEN COMING TO A STOP LEAVING ME NEVER KNOWING WHEN I MIGHT STOP ON THE FREEWAY OR RUN INTO THE BACK OF SOMEBODY. THE NEXT TIME I TOOK IT IN THEY SAID IT WAS THE CLUTCH PACK THAT FAILED AND THE REPAIR COST ME $1,131.00. THE REPAIR CONSISTED OF REMOVING THE TRANSMISSION, OPENING IT UP AND REPLACING THE PARTS AND THEN RE-INSTALLING THE TRANSMISSION. I HAVE READ A SERVICE BULLETIN RECENTLY FROM FORD MOTOR COMPANY SAYING THAT THESE PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN REPORTED IN 2004 FORD EXPLORERS AND MERCURY MOUNTAINEERS. THEY ARE SAYING THAT THEY WILL BE FIXED FOR FREE. I HAVE A 2003 FORD EXPLORER AND I AM NOT AWARE OF THE TWO MODEL YEARS BEING MECHANICALLY DISSIMILAR. I WANT IT KNOWN THAT THE 2003 EXPLORERS ARE SUFFERING THE SAME PROBLEMS, WHICH IS WHY I AM REGISTERING THE COMPLAINT.*AK
THE VEHICLE WAS BRAND NEW AND THERE WAS RUSTING AROUND THE WINDSHIELD, THE POWER DOORS AND THE SEATS WERE NOT WORKING , THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL AS WELL. *JB FIVE WINDSHIELDS HAD BEEN REPLACED DUE TO CONSTANT LEAKING INCLUDING THE MOON ROOF AND THE HEADLINER. THE POWER DOORS DID NOT WORK. WHEN IT WOULD RAIN, MANY ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WOULD BE PRESENT. *SC
I WAS APPROACHING A STOP SIGN AND BEGAN TO BRAKE, WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL STARTED TO MAKE A GRINDING NOISE AND THEN WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I BEGAN TO PUMP THE BRAKE AND LUCKILY ENOUGH I STOPPED BEFORE ENTERING THE INTERSECTION. IF THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME, I WOULD HAVE HIT THEM BECAUSE THE BRAKES WOULD NOT WORK. I CALLED THE FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASE THE EXPLORER AND THEY HAD ME CALL ROAD ASSISTANCE TO PICK UP MY VEHICLE. OF COURSE, THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO "DUPLICATE" THE PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD THAT THE ABS PROBABLY LOCKED UP BECAUSE THE STREET MAY HAVE BEEN WET, WHICH IT WAS NOT. THEN THEY SAID THAT MAYBE I WAS ON A GRAVEL OR DIRT ROAD, WHICH I WAS NOT. I WAS TOLD TO KEEP AN EYE ON IT AND IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN TO CALL ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND THEY WILL LOOK INTO IT AGAIN. IF THERE IS A NEXT TIME, I HOPE THERE WILL NOT BE ANYONE INJURED.
WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES THE PEDAL PROCEEDED TO THE FLOOR WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER STATED THIS PROCEDURE WAS NORMAL. PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *JB
THE ABS LIGHT COMES ON AND THERE IS NO ABS SAFTEY FEATURE. THIS IS HAPPENED 3 DIFFERENT TIMES. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE REAR WHEEL SPEED SENSOR. IT HAS BEEN REPLACED 3 TIMES. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND THEY SAID FORD RELEASED A NEW SENSOR THE 2ND TIME I WAS THERE AND I HAD THE PROBLEM AGAIN. WHAT IS FORD GOING TO DO, IF THE ABS FAILS AGAIN. I HAVE DRAFTED A COMPLAINT WITH FORD AND I AM AWAITING FOR A REPLY. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR THE SAME PROBLM 3 TIMES.*AK
THE LIFT GATE SHEARED OFF THE HINGES WHILE PRESSING THE REMOTE. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONSUMER THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME. PLEASE FILL IN ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *JB
THE REAR-END OF THE VEHICLE MADE A HUMMING NOISE WHEN TRAVELING BETWEEN 30 MPH AND 45 MPH. THE OWNER HAS TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, AS WELL AS CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER WHO WAS NOT DOING ANYTHING TO ASSIST THE CONSUMER. PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *JB

A CONSUMER SAFETY CAMPAIGN 04520 WAS RECEIVED FOR THE REAR GLASS FALLING OUT OR CRACKING. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND THE DEALER DID NOT HAVE THE PART FOR THE VEHICLE. CONSUMER WAS CONCERNED THAT SOMEONE WILL BE INJURED, AND HE WILL BE LIABLE FOR THE INJURIES. MANUFACTURER STATED NO PARTS HAVE ARRIVED YET. *AK

CONSUMER CALLED FOR ROAD SIDE ASSISTANCE TO CHANGE THE TIRE. CONSUMER DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR A REPLACEMENT OF MICHELIN TIRE. *AK

WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 25 MILES PER HOUR ON A STRAIGHT ROAD IN EXCELLENT CONDITION THE SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAGS DEPLOYED IN THE VEHICLE. THERE WAS NO BRAKING OR ACCELERATING OCCURING AT THE TIME OF THE EVENT. THIS WAS A 2003 FORD EXPLORER. 4 OCCUPANTS WERE PRESENT IN THE VEHICLE INCLUDING 2 TODDLERS. *AK
