2006 FORD EXPLORER HAS COOLING SYSTEMS PROBLEMS. THE ENGINE LIGHT AND GAUGE WOULD SUDDENLY RISE. THE ENGINE WOULD REV AND THE HEAT WOULD BLOW COLD AIR. IN JULY 2009 I HAD THE RADIATOR REPLACED AND WAS TOLD BY A FORD DEALER THAT WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. SEVEN MONTHS LATER THE SAME PROBLEMS HAVE STARTED AGAIN. ENGINE SUDDENLY OVERHEATS, THEN SUDDENLY DROPS, COLD AIR FROM THE HEATING SYSTEM. I AM TAKING THE TRUCK BACK TO THE DEALER. DEALER SAYS THEY WILL NOT WARRANTY THE RADIATORS, FANS, ETC., BECAUSE OF THE STEADY PROBLEMS THEY ARE HAVING WITH THEM. *TR
1. DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, PREPARING TO MAKE A LEFT-HAND TURN 2. WHEN TRYING TO SLOW FOR A LEFT TURN, THE CAR BARELY SLOWED DOWN AND I COULD NOT GET IT TO SLOW DOWN ENOUGH TO MAKE THE TURN. I WENT BEYOND THE TURN AND HAD TO BACK UP. DURING MY ATTEMPT TO SLOW THE CAR DOWN, IT MADE A NOISE LIKE A LOUD FAN OR A RACING ENGINE. THIS HAPPENED ON DRY PAVEMENT WITH NO STONES. 3. I TOOK IT TO A DEALER TO HAVE THE PROBLEM FIXED BUT THEY COULDN'T GET IT TO REACT LIKE IT DID FOR ME AND THEIR COMPUTER COULDN'T FIND A PROBLEM. I MADE THEM PUT ON THE REPAIR PAPER THAT THEY LOOKED AT BOTH A BRAKING PROBLEM AND AN ENGINE PROBLEM AND FOUND NO DEFECTS. I THEN LEFT THE DEALERSHIP, DROVE DOWN THE ROAD, HAD THE CAR WASHED AND THEN STARTED FOR HOME ONLY TO HAVE THE EXACT SAME STOPPING PROBLEM AS I DESCRIBED ABOVE. I MADE THEM TAKE IT BACK AND THEY HAVE HAD IT FOR GOING ON 4 WEEKS AND STILL CAN'T FIND ANY PROBLEM. EVERYONE IN THE PLACE, SERVICE MANAGER, MECHANIC AND ANOTHER SERVICE PERSON, HAVE DRIVEN THE CAR WITH NO RESULTS. THEY HAD ME DRIVE WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER AFTER TAKING IT BACK THE SECOND TIME AND HE PUT THE CAR INTO A SLIDE ON GRAVEL TO HAVE ME EXPERIENCE THE ABS IN ACTION TO SEE IF THAT WAS WHAT I EXPERIENCED, BUT IT WASN'T THE SAME. IT DID NOT MAKE THE NOISE THAT I EXPERIENCED EACH TIME IT FAILED TO STOP. WE ARE NOT GETTING ANY SATISFACTION FROM THE DEALER. THE CAR ONLY HAD APPROXIMATELY 3,700 MILES WHEN THEY FIRST GOT IT. IF I EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM IN TRAFFIC, I WOULD CERTAINLY HIT A CAR IN FRONT OF ME BECAUSE NO MATTER HOW MUCH PRESSURE I APPLY TO THE BRAKES, IT WON'T STOP IN A TIMELY MANNER. ONCE I HAVE TAKEN MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE, IT WILL WORK AGAIN, PROPERLY. I FEEL LIKE THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM AND SO FAR THERE HAS BEEN NO SOLUTION GIVEN TO ME. THEY JUST KEEP TELLING ME THAT IT ISN'T DOING ANYTHING WHEN THEY DRIVE IT. *JB
THE SHIFT HANDLE FREQUENTLY IS "STUCK" WHEN ATTEMPTING TO SHIFT INTO GEAR FROM THE PARK POSITION. *TR
I OWN A 2006 EXPLORER EDDIE BAUER WITH 3000 MILES ON IT. HERE IS THE PROBLEM, JUST BEFORE COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP AT STOP LIGHT, STOP SIGN OR WHATEVER, THE ENGINE REVS TO 1200-1500 RPMS FOR JUST A BRIEF SECOND. I AM NOT GIVING THE CAR ANY GAS TO INDUCE THIS OCCURRENCE. I HAVE NO IDEA WHY THE CAR IS DOING THIS AND NEITHER DOES MY LOCAL DEALER. THE SERVICE MANAGER ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THE CAR IS IN FACT DOING WHAT I DESCRIBED ABOVE, BUT COULD NOT OFFER A FIX. I TESTED ANOTHER 2006 V6 EXPLORER WITH 3 MILES ON IT, TO MINE AND THE SERVICE MANAGER SURPRISE; IT DID THE EXACT SAME THING AS MY TRUCK. THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID HE WOULD LOOK INTO THE SITUATION AND CALL SOME OF HIS ENGINEER BUDDIES TO SEE IF THEY COULD GIVE HIM ANY INFORMATION. I NEVER HEARD BACK FROM HIM. I AM ALSO BEGINNING TO NOTICE THAT I ACTUALLY HAVE TO BREAK HARDER TO GET THE TRUCK TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THIS CAN NOT BE NORMAL, YET MY FORD DEALER IS INSINUATING NOTHING IS ACTUALLY WRONG WITH THE CAR. LONGER THAN NECESSARY STOPPING DISTANCES AND WILL LEAD TO UNNECESSARY COLLISIONS. BECAUSE THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY WILL NOT ADMIT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH 2006 V6 EXPLORERS MY DEALER WILL PROBABLY DO NOTHING TO REMEDY THE SITUATION. I COMPLAINED TO FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND NEVER EVEN RECEIVED A CONFIRMATION THAT THEY RECEIVED MY EMAIL. I HONESTLY BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A RECALL SITUATION. TO MY KNOWLEDGE, ALL 2006 V6 EXPLORERS EXHIBIT THIS PROBLEM OF SUDDEN ACCELERATION, ADMITTEDLY NOT BY ANY STRETCH A POWERFUL SUDDEN ACCELERATION BUT STILL IT IS A SUDDEN ACCELERATION. I AM CONFIDENT IN MY ASSESSMENT BECAUSE I HAVE PERSONALLY DRIVEN 2 EXPLORERS AND DIFFERENT SERVICE REP CLAIMED HE DROVE YET ANOTHER 06 EXPLORER THAT DID EXACTLY THE SAME THING. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT IF FORD HAS A DESIGN FLAW IN ONE OF THERE CARS THEY SHOULD DESIGN A FIX FOR THE PROBLEM AND THEN REPAIR THE AFFECTED CARS. *NM
HARD JOLTS WHEN STOPPING AND WHEN SHIFTING GEARS. TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP 4 TIMES, FORD MOTOR CO. RECOMMENDS KEEP DRIVING IT. DEALERSHIP STATES THEY CAN'T FIX IT. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED AFTER SMELLING GASOLINE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THERE WAS A FUEL RAIL LEAK CAUSING GASOLINE TO SPILL OUT ONTO THE ENGINE.
PROBLEM WITH SHIFTING GEARS FROM PARK, CAN TAKE UP TO ONE MINUTE IN CASES. THIS HAPPENS ON A DAILY BASIS. I TOOK VEHICLE TO AL LONG FORD, THEY KEPT MY CAR FOR THREE WEEKS WORKING ON THE PROBLEM. AFTER I GOT MY CAR BACK, THE SAME PROBLEM EXISTED. *JB
PURCHASED A 2006 FORD EXPLORER ON 5/6/06 AND TOOK A ROAD TRIP TO ALABAMA AND ON THE WAY BACK AROUND OCALA,FL, WE STARTED SMELLING GAS SMELL AS WE GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND WALKED AROUND IT. WE WERE ALWAYS STOPPED AT CONVENIENT STORES, WHICH HAVE GAS PUMPS AND DIDN'T THINK MUCH OF IT. WE DID LOOK UNDER VEHICLE AND DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING. WE KEPT DRIVING SOUTH TO COME HOME AND AROUND TAMPA,FL.. THE SMELL GOT A LITTLE MORE STRONG. LUCKILY WE MADE IT HOME W/OUT BLOWING UP. ONCE WE PULLED IN OUR DRIVEWAY, THE SMELL WAS REALLY BAD. MY HUSBAND GOT HIS FLASHLIGHT AND LOOKED UNDER THE VEHICLE AND GAS WAS DRIPPING OUT PRETTY STEADY. IT WAS MIDNIGHT ON SUNDAY AND WE NEW THAT THE FORD DEALERSHIP WAS CLOSED AT THAT TIME, SO WE WENT TO BED AND FIRST THING MONDAY MORNING, WE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEN THE TOWING TRUCK. THEY TOLD US TO GET FIRE DEPT OUT HERE TO DRAIN GAS . THE FIRE DEPT CAME AND USED PUTTY TO STOP LEAK SO WE COULD HAVE TRUCK TOWED. WE HAD TRUCK TOWED TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP TO BE FIXED AND ONCE THEY LOOKED AT IT, WE WERE TOLD THAT IT WAS OUR FAULT AND THEY WOULD NOT COVER UNDER WARRANTY. THEY SAID WE RAN OVER SOMETHING. WE WOULD HAVE KNOWN IF WE RAN OVER SOMETHING AND IF WE HIT ROCKS OR PEBBLES WHILE GOING DOWN INTERSTATE AND IT CAUSED THAT, THEN FORD HAS SOME SERIOUS FUEL TANK ISSUES. WE ENDED UP TURNING OVER TO OUR INSURANCE CO AND PAID TO GET TRUCK FIXED, WHICH IS FINE. WHEN OUR INSURANCE ADJUSTER LOOKED AT TRUCKS FUEL TANK, HE MADE US AWARE THAT THERE WAS NEVER A SKID PLATE PUT ON TO PROTECT FUEL TANK. PER DEALERSHIP, THIS IS OPTIONAL AND WE WERE NEVER TOLD ABOUT IT. SUPPOSEDLY, THE FUEL TANKS ARE BUILT NOW WHERE THEY DO NOT REQUIRE A SKID PLATE UNLESS IT IS A FOUR WHEEL DRIVE. MY FAMILIES SAFETY WAS PUT AT RISK AND NOBODY AT FORD THAT WE TALKED TO SEEMED TO CARE AND I THINK THIS SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED A LITTLE FURTHER, WHICH IS WHY I AM WRITING THIS AND LETTING YOU ALL KNOW. *JB
ABS BRAKE LIGHT AND INTERMITTENT LOCKING UP BRAKES WITH STABILITY CONTROL ALMOST CAUSING ACCIDENT AS YOU LOSE CONTROL WHILE DRIVING. *TR
HARD DOWNSHIFT TO 1ST GEAR. NO NOISE BUT AFTER STOPPING TRANSMISSION SLAMS INTO 1ST CAUSING SEVER JERKING AND IT WILL JUMP FORWARD. THERE IS A TSB BUT NO FIX FOR IT TERRIBLE FOR A 40000.00 VEHICLE. *JB
WE HAVE A 2004 FORD EXPLORER THAT IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY WITH AN UNRESOLVED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION/ACCELERATOR PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM IS A DELAYED ENGAGEMENT WHEN THE VEHICLE SHIFTS FROM A LOW TO A HIGHER GEAR, AND EVEN MORE DELAY AND AGGRESSIVE SHIFT FROM PARK TO REVERSE. THE SHIFTING INTO REVERSE IS SO PRONOUNCED THAT IT DELAYS, THEN BANGS INTO REVERSE, AND SUDDENLY LUNGES BACKWARD. THIS IS A DANGEROUS CONDITION AND COULD EASILY RESULT IN PROPERTY DAMAGE OR EVEN INJURY TO OTHERS. *NM
SHIFT HANDLE FREQUENTLY "STICKS" IN THE PARK POSITION. MANUAL DISABLING OF THE SHIFT INTERLOCK MECHANISM WAS REQUIRED TO ALLOW ENGAGEMENT OF THE TRANSMISSION. THE INTERLOCK DISABLING PROCESS WAS PERFORMED SUCCESSFULLY IN EACH INSTANCE (AS DESCRIBED IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL). IN EACH CASE, THE DRIVER WHO EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO SUCCESSFULLY EXECUTE THE PROCESS AND REQUIRED THE ASSISTANCE OF ANOTHER FAMILY MEMBER WHO WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE. *TR
NEW FORD EXPLORER STALLS IN TRAFFIC WHICH IS DANGEROUS, DEALER HAS FOUND NOTHING WRONG AT THIS TIME, BUT HAS NOW HAD THE VEHICLE FOR APPROX. 10 DAYS. THE DEALER HAD THE VEHICLE 2 DAYS THE FIRST TIME AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG. *NM
(1) DRIVER'S SEAT BACK LATCH BROKEN (2) COULD NOT ENTER, OR EXIT FROM, BACK SEAT ON DRIVER'S SIDE (3) NOT REPAIRED AS YET. *NM
MY WIFE CAME HOME FROM SHOPPING AND TRIED TO BACK INTO THE CARPORT AND THE SUV STARTED TO LUNGE AND JERK,SO WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER ABOUT 10 MINUTE LATER AND WE ARE WAITING FOR IT TO BE REPAIRED. THE DATE WE WENT TO THE DEALER WAS 4/12/11 AND TODAY IS 4/14/11. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THERE IS A SEVERE WINDSHIELD GLARE COMING FROM THE DASHBOARD. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DETERMINED THE VEHICLE FUNCTIONS PROPERLY. UPDATED 5/10/2006 - THE DASHBOARD REFLECTED ONTO THE WINDSHIELD AND COVERED ABOUT 70% OF THE WINDSHIELD. *NM
FUEL LEVEL AND ENGINE TEMPERATURE GAUGES ARE ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO READ IN DAYLIGHT, REQUIRING A DRIVER TO TAKE HIS/HER EYES FROM THE ROAD FOR AN EXCESSIVE PERIOD OF TIME. THIS CREATES A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHILE DRIVING A 2006 FORD EXPLORER. *JB
I HAVE A 2006 FORD EXPLORER V-8 LIMITED WITH THE SIX SPEED TRANSMISSION. THE TRANSMISSION TOTALLY FAILED WITH UNDER 1,000 MILES. IT LURCHED, BUCKED, HIGH REVVED AND FAILED TO ENGAGE, THEN SUDDENLY ENGAGED AND EVENTUALLY WOULD NOT DRIVE. THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED BY FORD. 13,000 MILES LATER THE TRANSMISSION LURCHES AND BUCKS THE CARD FORWARD. WHEN GOING FROM SECOND TO FIRST, IT POPS BACK INTO SECOND, THEN INTO FIRST AGAIN. IF NOT FOR THE FOOT ON THE BRAKE THE CAR COULD LUNGE FORWARD AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I MUST BE CAREFUL NOT TO PULL UP TOO CLOSE TO ANYTHING WHEN STOPPING. FORD CONTINUED TO RECALIBRATE THE TRANSMISSION THREE MORE TIMES TO NO AVAIL AND ON THE FOURTH AND FINAL REPAIR ATTEMPT THEY STATED THEY WOULD DO NOTHING FURTHER TO REPAIR OR REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. *JB
ON 12/10/05, I PURCHASED A NEW 2006 FORD EXPLORER. YESTERDAY, FOR THE FIFTH TIME, THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO START. I BROUGHT IT IN TO FORD ON 01/11/06, THEY REPLACED THE BATTERY AND TOLD ME IT WOULD NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. IT HAPPENED AGAIN LAST NIGHT. *JB
UPON RELEASING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE THE CAR ROLLED DOWN THE HILL AND OVER MY LEGS. *JB
WHEN TRYING TO MOVE THE GEAR SHIFT FROM PARK TO ANY GEAR AFTER BEING PARKED FOR ANY AMOUNT OF TIME; THE GEAR SHIFT SAFETY LEVER WILL NOT ENGAGE ALLOWING ME TO CHANGE GEARS. *NM
I PURCHASED A 2006 EDDIE BAUER EXPLORER IN JUNE OF LAST YEAR AND HAVE HAD TRANSMISSION ISSUES WITH IT SINCE I HIT 1000 MILES. I HAVE HAD IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP 4 TIMES AND THEY HAVE ADJUSTED, REPLACED A COMPUTER, DID OTHER TRANSMISSION WORK AND THE VEHICLE STILL DEMONSTRATES THE SAME ISSUE. THIS PROBLEM HAPPENS DURING SHIFTING AND ON SLOW DOWN TO STOP. THE VEHICLE JERKS FORWARD AND SHIFTS VERY ROUGH BETWEEN GEARS. FORD MOTOR CORP HAS REFUSED TO ASSIST ANY FURTHER AND HAS ASKED ME TO BRING MY VEHICLE BACK AGAIN FOR THE 5TH TIME. THIS SITUATION IS VERY DANGEROUS AS THE VEHICLE DOES JERK FORWARD WHEN YOU STOP. I HAVE SMALL CHILDREN AND THIS HAS PUT ME INTO A SITUATION WHERE I FEEL LIKE MY CHILDREN ARE UNSAFE IN THIS VEHICLE DUE TO THE POTENTIAL TO REAREND SOMEONE IF THE CAR FAILS TO STOP PROPERLY. WHERE IS FORD WHEN IT COMES TO SAFETY AND CONSUMER LOYALTY??? THIS WAS MY THIRD FORD PURCHASE AND WILL MOST LIKELY BE THE LAST. A COLLEAGUE OF MINE ALSO PURCHASED THIS SAME VEHICLE AND IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUES. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE STALLS WITHOUT WARNING, WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. THE TRAVEL SPEED IS NOT A FACTOR. THE FAILURE OCCURS INTERMITTENTLY. WHEN THE ENGINE STALLS, THE POWER STEERING FAILS. THE VEHICLE IS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED. THE FORD DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE STALLING BEGAN ONCE HE STARTED USING THE CRUISE CONTROL. THE PURCHASE DATE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 22,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,000. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE IS NOT ENOUGH PADDING ON THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE SEAT OF THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER RECOMMENDED TAKING THE VEHICLE TO AN UPHOLSTER SHOP. THE UPHOLSTERER ADDED MORE PADDING TO THE FRONT SEAT AND THE CONTACT STATED THAT THIS MADE THE SEAT MORE COMFORTABLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 55,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,200. THE CONSUMER STATED THIS IS A COMPANY CAR AND USES THE VEHICLE FOR TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM SALES LOCATIONS. THE CONSUMER PROVIDED COPY OF LETTERS TO FORD PERTAINING TO THE DEFECT , COPY OF REGISTRATION, AND INSURANCE CARD. THE CONSUMER STATED THE DISCOMFORT OF THE SEAT CAUSED HIS LEG TO BECOME SWOLLEN AND UPON SEEKING MEDICAL TREATMENT, IT WAS DISCOVERED HE SUFFERED A DEEP VEIN THROMBOSIS AND A BLOOD CLOT HAD BROKEN LOOSE AND CAUSED A PULMONARY EMBOLISM. MY FORD EXPLORER XLT 2006 HAD A DELAYED DELIVERY DATE TO ME FOR 2 DAYS DUE TO A "BAD CLUSTER" ON START UP. THE TRUCK WAS REPAIRED AND I PICKED IT UP ON NOVEMBER 1, 2005. THIS VEHICLE IS LEASED. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WHICH I HAD REPAIRED ON DECEMBER 8, 2005. ON DECEMBER 9, 2005 WHILE I WAS DRIVING WITH MY TWO YOUNG CHILDREN IN THE TRUCK I PULLED OUT OF A PARALLEL PARKING SPACE AND THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO FEEL VERY TIGHT AND IT WAS GRINDING WHEN STEERING SLIGHTLY LEFT OR RIGHT OF THE CENTER AND THEN IT WOULD FREE UP AGAIN MAKING THE TRUCK EASY TO OVERSTEER. AS I DROVE THE TIGHTNESS WOULD GO AWAY UNTIL I SLOWED DOWN AND THEN IT WOULD GET TIGHT AGAIN. ALSO THE GRINDING ON TURNS EITHER LEFT OR RIGHT REMAINED. I GOT TO A SAFE PLACE AND CALLED MY PURCHASING DEALER BURNS FORD 359 WEST JERICHO TPKE, HUNTINGTON, NY 11743. THEY ADVISED ME NOT TO DRIVE THE TRUCK AND CALL FORD ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. I DID AND THEY TOWED THE TRUCK TO BURNS FORD. THEY CALLED ME LATER IN THE DAY TO TELL ME THAT FORD ADVISED THEM THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE TRUCK AND PARTS WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL THE 1ST QUARTER OF 2006. THE FOLLOWING IS THE NOTICE: 18962 2006 EXPLORER 4DR /MERCURY MOUNTAINEER-INTERMEDIATE (1) SHAFT POP/CLUNK NOISE. SOME 2006 EXPLORER 4DR AND MOUNTAINEER VEHICLES MAY EXHIBIT A CREAK/POP HEARD AND FELT THROUGH THE STEERING WHEEL, USUALLY NOTICED AT STATIONARY OF LOW-SPEED TURNS WHILE ACCELERATING AND BRAKING. IF DIAGNOSIS FINDS THAT THIS MAY BE DUE TO INTERMEDIATE SHAFT HAVING STICK-SLIP CONDITION, DO NOT REPLACE THE 1 SHAFT AT THIS TIME. THIS IS CURRENTLY UNDER INVESTIGATION BY ENGINEERING. 2006 FORD EXPLORER LTD. MEMORY SEAT NOT WORKING PROPERLY. *KB THE CONSUMER STATED THE SEAT WOULD PLACE HIM UP AGAINST THE STEERING WHEEL, OTHER TIMES IT WOULD ONLY MOVE FORWARD A FEW INCHES AND OTHER TIMES AFTER REMOVING THE KEY AND TRYING MORE THAN ONCE THE SEAT WOULD FUNCTION PROPERLY. *JB
I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 2006 FORD EXPLORER LIMITED WITH THE NEW 6-GEAR 8 CYLINDER ENGINE. DURING DOWNSHIFT TO A STOP, THE TRUCK WOULD LITERALLY LURCH FORWARD AS THE ENGINE JERKED INTO THE PROPER GEAR. AFTER REPEATED VISITS (IN EXCESS OF 5) TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND REPLACEMENTS OF VALVES AND A WHOLE NEW TRANSMISSION, THE PROBLEM IS NOT AS EVIDENT, BUT CONTINUES NONETHELESS. NEW PROBLEMS HAVE ALSO DEVELOPED, SUCH AS "JERKING" MOVEMENTS ON TAKE OFF (AS IF I WERE PRESSING AND RELEASING THE GAS), DELAYED RESPONSE WHEN PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR ON TAKE OFF, AS WELL AS AN ENGINE "ROAR" ON ACCELERATION NOT TYPICAL OF AN ENGINE FAN ; NONE OF THESE ISSUES WERE CORRECTED WHEN BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT (ERNIE HAIRE FORD). I HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING A FORUM ON EDMUNDS.COM WHERE OTHER CONSUMERS ARE HAVING THE EXACT SAME ISSUES; THE "COMPUTER" WAS SIMPLY REPROGRAMMED AND EXPECTED TO "FIX" THE PROBLEM WITH NO FURTHER OPTIONS AVAILABLE, SINCE AN ATTEMPT TO "LEMON LAW" THE VEHICLE WOULD RESULT IN "A LOT OF LAWYERS AND LITIGATION AND PAPERWORK," AS EXPRESSED BY THE SERVICE MANAGER AT ERNIE HAIRE, AND WOULD "PROBABLY WIND UP BEING A WASTE OF MY TIME AND MONEY IF THE COMPANY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE DURING THE PROCESS". I DID NOT HAVE THESE MECHANICAL ISSUES WITH MY '97 EXPLORER. *NM
WE PURCHASED A 2006 FORD EXPLORER A FEW YEARS AGO AND EVER SINCE WE GO IT, WE HAVE BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH THE WRENCH LIGHT COMING ON. WHEN THIS LIGHT TURNS ON THE CAR STARTS JERKING AND WE CANT STEP ON THE GAS ANY MORE BECAUSE THE CAR HESITATES TO GO. WE HAVE TO PULL OVER TURN THE CAR OFF, WAIT A WHILE THEN TURN IT BACK ON AND THE CAR IS OK AGAIN, BUT THE ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON SOMETIMES FOR A FEW HOURS AND SOMETIMES FOR A FEW DAYS. WHEN WE 1ST HAD THE PROBLEM WE TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG. WE TOOK IT BACK A FEW MORE TIMES AND THEY KEPT TELLING US THE SAME THING. WELL THAT DEALER CLOSED, WE TOOK IT TO OTHER FORD DEALERS AND THEY WOULD TELL US THE SAME THING, THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. WELL AT 1ST IT WOULD HAPPEN LIKE ONCE EVER 2 TO THREE WEEKS, THEN IT WOULD DO IT LIKE ONCE A DAY, WELL NOW IT DOES IT EVERYDAY MORE THAN ONCE A DAY. TWO DAYS AGO I WAS ON THE FREEWAY GOING 70 MILES AN HOUR IT HAPPENED TO ME. I ALWAYS HAVE MY 8 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WITH ME SO IM USUALLY ON CARPOOL. WELL WHEN THIS HAPPENED I HAD TO GET OUT OF CAR POOL CROSSING THE YELLOW LINES JUST SO THAT I CAN GET TO THE OTHER SIDE TO PULL OVER, AND I CANT STEP ON THE GAS. SO I TURNED THE CAR OFF, WAITED A WHILE AND THEN TURNED IT BACK ON AND CONTINUED. THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN NOT 2 TIMES, 6 TIMES TOTAL THAT DAY WHILE TRAFFIC IS MOVING AT 70 MILES AN HOUR, WE ALMOST CRASHED. I AM TIRED OF TAKING IT TO THE DEALER JUST FOR THEM TO SAY NOTHING IS WRONG. I EMAILED FORD CORPORATE AND ALL THEY CAN SAY IS TAKE IT AND HAVE IT DIAGNOSED. I TOLD THEM WE HAVE DONE THAT MANY TIMES AND THEY TELL US THE SAME THING. I GOT MAD SO I CALLED TO SPEAK TO A MANAGER, WHICH WAS NO HELP. SHE SAID FOR ME TO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED AGAIN. I ASKED HER IF THEY FOUND SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE CAR, IS FORD GOING TO HAVE IT FIXED AND SHE SAID NO. I LOOKED IN TO THIS AND THERE SEEMS TO BE LOTS OF PEOPLE WITH THIS SAME DANGEROUS PROBLEM WITH THEIR 2006 FORD EXPLORER. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 FORD EXPLORER THAT HAS A SEVERE ACCELERATION HESITATION PROBLEM. I'VE TAKEN TO DEALERS AND THEY ARE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. I BELIEVE IT'S A DISASTER WAITING TO HAPPEN AND I WOULD LIKE FORD TO BE MORE RESPONSIBLE IN FIXING THE PROBLEMS AS IT NOW APPEARS MANY VEHICLES OF SAME MAKE ARE EXPERIENCING SAME PROBLEM. THIS HAS BEEN A CONTINUOUS ISSUE SINCE I PURCHASED THE NEW EXPLORER IN FALL OF 2005. NM
2006 FORD EXPLORER WITH A DEFECTIVE GEAR SHIFT. CONSUMER STATES THAT THE REPAIR WORK WAS MADE FOR THE RECALL. THEN WAS FURTHER ADVISED THAT THIS REPAIR WOULD NOT FIX DEFECT AND CONSUMER WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING FOR THE REPAIR. *KB THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS A PART OF A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM. THE PROGRAM WAS TO REPAIR THE TRANSMISSION GEAR SHIFT LEVER FROM GETTING STUCK IN THE PARK POSITION, BY REPLACING THE GEAR SHIFT LEVER CIRCUIT BOARD FREE OF CHARGE. PRIOR TO NOTIFICATION, THE CONSUMER NOTICED THE GEAR SHIFT WOULD PERIODICALLY AND TEMPORARILY BECOME STUCK IN PARK. THE CONSUMER HAD THE REPAIR PERFORMED. THE FIRST CIRCUIT BOARD REPLACEMENT DID NOT FIX THE DEFECT. SO A SECOND CIRCUIT BOARD WAS INSTALLED AND SEEMED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER, A MONTH LATER, THE GEAR SHIFT LEVER BECAME STUCK IN PARK SEVERAL TIMES. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALER, AND WAS INFORMED THE REPAIR WOULD NOT BE COVERED. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED OTHER PARTS WITHIN THE GEAR SHIFT WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE REPAIRS WERE OUTSIDE THE LIMITS OF THE RECALL. *JB
