CABIN HAS A VERY VERY STRONG SMELL OF NATURAL GAS. IT IS VERY CONCERNING. IT IS TOXIC TO BREATHE AND DANGEROUS! MY VEHICLE SEEMS UNSAFE TO DRIVE!
ODOR NOTICED IN VEHICLE CABIN INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING, PARTICULARLY WHILE ACCELERATING. HAVE NOW FOUND OUT THAT THE VEHICLE HAS A CRACKED EXHAUST MANIFOLD.
POWER STEERING RANDOMLY GOES OUT LOCKING STEERING WHEEL. HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES IN THE PAST YEAR, EACH TIME HAS BEEN WHEN I'VE STARTED THE SUV AND ATTEMPTED TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL, IT LOCKS AND DISPLAYS INDICATION LIGHT. TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTING ALLOWS IT TO WORK PROPERLY AGAIN. LAST TIME IN DEC. 2017 IT LOCKED AS I WAS BACKING UP. USUALLY HAS ONLY OCCURRED WHILE VEHICLE IS PARKED AND I HAVEN'T ALREADY BEEN IN MOTION.
POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT! FORD HAS RECALLED SOME OF THESE FOR THIS REASON BUT REFUSE TO ACCEPT MINE IN THEIR RECALL . IT MAKES IT VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER WHEN IT FAILS.LUCKILY I WAS IN A DEPARTMENT STORE PARKING LOT. I HAVE A 2013 WITH 66,000 MILES ON IT.
DRIVING AT 55MPH ON A HIGHWAY MY FORD EXPLORER SPORT 2013 COMPLETELY SHUT OFF AND A AMBER WRENCH CAME ON ALONG WITH 2 MORE WARNINGS (TERRAIN MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FAULT AND SERVICE TRACTION SYSTEM LIGHT). I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND RESTART THE VEHICLE, BUT IT DID IT 2-3 TIMES THE SAME NIGHT. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THE SAME DAY WITHOUT CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. I CAN'T IMAGINE WHAT WOULD OF HAPPENED ON A INTERSTATE AT A HIGHER SPEED.
I FOUND CRACKS IN THE DOOR JAM OF THE REAR LIFTGATE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. FOLLOWING THIS DISCOVERY I FOUND FLOOR BOARDS SOAKED IN WATER, WATER DRIPPING DOWN MY 3RD ROW SEAT BELT ONTO THE FLOOR BOARDS AND INTO THE SPARE TIRE WELL. FOLLOWING THIS MY MOONROOF QUIT WORKING. THEN I RECEIVED A LETTER REGARDING EMISSIONS ENTERING THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE AND CAUSING PEOPLE TO PASS OUT AND WRECK THEIR VEHICLES. TOOK THE CAR TO FORD AND THE FORD DEALERSHIP WON'T COVER THE CRACKS IN THE NON WRECKED VEHICLE UNDER THE EMISSIONS WARRANTY BECAUSE THEY STATE THEY ARE UNRELATED. IF WATER IS GETTING INTO THE BACK OF THE CAR THROUGH A CRACK THEN EMISSIONS PROBABLY ARE TOO.
POWER STEERING WENT OUT SEVERAL TIMES WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE. ALL INCIDENCES HAPPENED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. FIRST WENT OUT WHILE IN REVERSE IN NOV OF 2017. COULD NOT STEER CAR. BRAKES APPLIED TO PREVENT HITTING A STATIONARY OBSTACLE. WAS IN A PARKING LOT. TURNED OFF. POWER STEERING ONCE AGAIN RESUMED. LATER DATE OF DECEMBER 2017 VEHICLE LOST STEERING IN TWO MORE INCIDENTS. BRAKE BEFORE HITTING OTHER VEHICLES PREVENTED CRASH. AFRAID TO DRIVE VEHICLE, USING ANOTHER. VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY 59K MILES. TOOK VEHICLE TO FORD DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION. INSPECTION SHOWS POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE. RECOMMENDED TO REPORT TO FORD. VEHICLE NEEDS POWER STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY. 2012 RECALL SHOWS THE SAME HAZARDOUS ISSUE. JANUARY 2018 SUBMITTED CLAIM TO FORD. DEALERSHIP ORDERING STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY. CONTACTED FORD TO ASSIST WITH FINANCIAL END OF CLAIM. FORD RECALLED 2011-2012 VEHICLES WITH SAME PROBLEM. REQUEST ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIR AND FINANCIAL ASPECT. OWNER AFRAID TO DRIVE VEHICLE, FEELS THAT IT COULD GO OUT AT ANY TIME. GOING IN TO VICTOR FORD FOR THE REPAIR WILL SAVE RECEIPTS FOR FURTHER FORD INVESTIGATION AND RECALL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WAS LOOSE WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER (BONDY'S FORD LINCOLN, 3615 ROSS CLARK CIR, DOTHAN, AL 36303, (877) 858-3522) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT A NUT BECAME DISCONNECTED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE PART AND INSPECTED THE STEERING AREA. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE12017 (STEERING) AND NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V286000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,517. *TT
TAKARA RECALL THE HOOD OF MY 2013 FORD EXPLORER HAS A CORROSION ON IT. PAINT IS PEELING AND BUBBLING. THE ALUMINUM HAS A POWDER LOOK TO IT AND IS WEEK. AFTER TIME HOOD COULD COME UNLATCHED DO TO ALUMINUM CORROSION. FORD IS AWARE OF PROBLEM BUT WON'T FIX OUT SIDE OF 3/36000 MILE WARRANTY.
STEERING RACK FAILED. SIGNALED POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT, ADVANCE TRAC FAIL, REVERSE CAMERA ON WHILE GOING FORWARD. TOOK TO FORD DEALER WHO SAID STEERING RACK NEEDS REPLACED FOR $1935.26 PLUS TAX.
AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, MY LEFT WINDSHIELD CLADDING FLEW OFF OF MY 2013 FORD EXPLORER WITHOUT WARNING OR ACCIDENT. THE CAR BEHIND ME ALMOST WAS IN AN ACCIDENT SWERVING TO AVOID IT. THIS IS EVIDENTLY A COMMON PROBLEM AS THERE ARE MULTIPLE CASES OF THIS HAPPENING ON THE EXPLORER FROM WHAT I'VE SEEN ON MULTIPLE FORUMS. I WENT TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP TO DISCUSS WITH THEM AND THEY BASICALLY TOLD ME TOUGH LUCK AND THEY COULDN'T REPAIR IT. WHAT? REALLY? I EVIDENTLY HAVE TO GO TO A GLASS SHOP, BUY THE PIECES FROM FORD AT A COST OF $400, YES THAT IS $400. THEY COULDN'T EVEN POINT ME IN THE DIRECTION OF A GLASS SHOP BUT WERE HAPPY TO TAKE MY MONEY FOR SOMETHING THAT COSTS A TOTAL OF $90 ONLINE AS THEY TOLD ME 'DON'T TRUST PARTS ORDERED ONLINE' BUT ODDLY ENOUGH I SHOULD TRUST PARTS MANUFACTURED BY FORD WHEN THEY CREATED THE ORIGINAL PIECE AND BRACKET THAT HOLDS IT(WHICH I ALSO HAVE TO REPLACE AS IT BROKE AS WELL) THAT FLEW OFF AT 60 MPH.
CARBON MONOXIDE SMELL ON THE INSIDE OF MY EXPLORER MADE MY WIFE AND HER FRIEND LIGHT HEADED AND STARTED GETTING HEADACHES AND WE STOP USING OUR EXPLORE FOR OUR SAFETY AND IT'S KNOW JUST PARKED IN MY GARAGE.AND HAVEN'T USE IT ANYMORE.
DRIVING ON TEXAS SH 290 POWER STEERING FAILED, STEERING LOST POWER ASSIST AT 70 MPH.
WITH NO WARNING AT ALL, OUR POWER STEERING COMPLETELY WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THIS IS SIMILAR TO THE RECALL OF OTHER 2013 FORD EXPLORERS FOR THE IDENTICAL ISSUE OF SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING . OUR VEHICLE DOES NOT FALL UNDER THE RECALL ACCORDING TO FORD HOWEVER THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE FOR POWER STEERING TO GO OUT WITH NO WARNING OR INDICATION.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED WITHOUT WARNING. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED ON OTHER OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO PACKEY WEBB FORD (1815 OGDEN AVE, DOWNERS GROVE, IL 60515, (630) 598-4700) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND THE STEERING RACK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EXHIBITING THE SAME SYMPTOMS AS LISTED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 14V286000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,754.
ON NOV 5TH, A SULFURIC ODOR WAS DETECTED IN THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE FOR A BRIEF PERIOD. ON NOV 6TH, THE SAME ODOR WAS DETECTED IN AND AROUND THE VEHICLE WITH MUCH MORE STRENGTH THAN THE PREVIOUS DAY. ON NOV 13TH, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED ON THE 13TH STATING A KNOWN TSB HAS BEEN IMPLEMENTED (THE TSB NUMBER WAS NOT DISCLOSED). UPON DRIVING THE VEHICLE HOME (APPROX 25 MILES), THE SULFURIC ODOR WAS STILL PRESENT. DRIVER EXPERIENCED DIZZINESS NEAR THE END OF THE COMMUTE HOME. ON NOV 15TH, DRIVER'S SPOUSE WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND REPORTED THE SAME SULFURIC ODOR AND EXPERIENCED A HEADACHE AFTER APPROXIMATELY 25 MINUTES OF BEING IN THE VEHICLE. BOTH DRIVERS EXPERIENCED THE ODOR WHILE STATIONARY AS WELL AS IN MOTION. BOTH DRIVERS WERE DRIVING IN A MIX OF CITY AND HIGHWAY DRIVING.
THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT WOULD COME ON WHEN STARTING AND FIRST BACKING UP. WOULD TURN CAR OFF AND IT WOULD RESET. THE OTHER DAY IT DID IT AGAIN BUT THIS TIME DID NOT RESET. TOWED TO DEALER AND SAID I NEED NEW STEERING GEAR. SAW A RECALL FOR EXACT SAME PROBLEM IN 2013 EXPLORERS BUT SINCE MY CAR WAS MANUFACTURED IN 12/12 AND NOT 2/12 IT WAS NOT UNDER RECALL AND REPAIR IS COMING OUT OF MY POCKET. IT WAS EVEN BUILT IN SAME PLANT AS CARS AFFECTED BY RECALL.
FOR THE LAST 4 MONTHS I HAVE BEEN SMELLING EXHAUST WHEN I DRIVE WITH THE AC OR HEATER ON. I TOOK THE CAR INTO FORD FOR AN INSPECTION IN OCTOBER, AND WHILE THEY 'COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG', THEY DID QUOTE ME FOR $1,400 TO FIX WHAT MIGHT BE THE PROBLEM. THEY ALSO ASKED IF MAYBE I WAS JUST SMELLING OTHER FUMES WITH THE WINDOWS DOWN. I TOOK THE CAR TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHO INSPECTED IT AND SAID IT WASN'T SAFE TO DRIVE AND THAT FORD SHOULD BE COVERING THIS. I JUST CALLED THE DEALERSHIP ON 11/16/17 TO TRY AND GET AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM (17N03). THEY TOLD ME THEY WILL NOT BE GETTING PARTS IN FOR ANOTHER MONTH. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE! I AM DRIVING MY 3-YEAR-OLD AROUND IN THIS CAR, WITHOUT THE HEATER ON TRYING TO MINIMIZE THE FUMES. MEANWHILE FORD IS TELLING ME THAT THE MEDIA HAS BLOWN THIS OUT OF PROPORTION AND ONLY POLICE VEHICLES SHOULD BE GETTING THE FIXES.
CO2 ENTERING THE CABIN. ALREADY TOOK IT TO A FORD DEALER THEY LIED TO ME AND NEVER FIXED THE CAR. NOW THEY WANT ME TO PAY IN ORDER FOR THEM TO CHECK IT. YOU CAN SMELL THE SMOKE GETTING INTO THE CAR.
WATER LEAKS INTO CABIN OF CAR. ENTERS IN REAR OF VEHICLE AND RUNS DOWN THIRD ROW SEAT BELTS. HAPPENS ON BOTH SIDES.
THE VEHICLE SPUTTERS AND SHAKES UPON ACCELERATION. MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO GET TO THE NEEDED SPEED, ESPECIALLY WHEN MERGING ONTO THE EXPRESSWAY. I KNOW MULTIPLE PEOPLE WHO ARE HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE WITH THEIR 2013 EXPLORERS. FORD HAS ALSO BEEN HAVING THIS ISSUE WITH THEIR FOCUS. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS TAKEN INTO THEIR MECHANICS YOU ARE TOLD THAT THEY CAN NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE SINCE THERE IS NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. I HAVE FOUR CHILDREN IN MY CAR DAILY, FORD NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS ISSUE.
LEFT TRIM ON WINDSHIELD FLEW OFF AS I WAS DRIVING ON I75 LAST WEEK CAUSING THE CAR BEHIND ME TO SWERVE TO MISS THE PIECE FLYING THROUGH THE AIR. I HAVE READ ON THIS SITE AND OTHERS THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH MANY OTHERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. ONE EVEN REFERENCED THE FOLLOWING CASE # CAS-13158913-T1R4M0. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL .
POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT , POWER STEERING FAILED WHEN STARTED IN MOTION FROM PARKED. TWICE OCT 17 2017 AND OCT 23 2017 BOTH TIMES SHUT CAR OFF , THEN RESTARTED EVERYTHING WORKED NORMAL. TOOK CAR TO PLANET FORD SPRING TEXAS, OCT 24 ,25,26,27.DEALER REPLACED STEERING GEAR COST ,$1734.12. FORD HAS HAD STEERING PROBLEMS 2010 TO 2015. CONTACTED FORD ,NO RECALL FOR MY VIN NUMBER. FORD CASE NUMBER CASE NUMBER CAS13412020.
THE ELECTRONIC SCREEN THAT CONTROLS RADIO, ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEMS, NAVIGATION, SHUTS DOWN FREQUENTLY WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, OR MOTOR IS RUNNING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT GOT OUT TO OBSERVE THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE LOWER CONTROL ARM WAS DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO GUS MACHADO FORD (1200 W 49TH ST, HIALEAH, FL 33012) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE LOWER CONTROL ARM AND WHEEL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 40,000.
CONDITIONS: THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY. THERE WAS HEAVY RAIN. THERE IS TRIM MOLDING ON THE DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER'S SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD OF THE 2013 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING A FEW WEEKS AGO, THE DRIVER'S SIDE MOLDING FLEW OFF, LEAVING EXPOSED A STRIP OF WEATHER STRIPPING, WHICH WAS COVERED WITH A BLACKISH GLUE. AS A RESULT OF THE MOLDING HAVING FLOWN OFF, THE NOW UNSECURED WEATHER STRIPPING WAS REPEATEDLY HITTING THE WINDSHIELD LEAVING IT COVERED WITH THE STICKY RESIDUE FROM THE GLUE. WHILE THAT ON ITS OWN MAY NOT HAVE BEEN SO BAD, IT WAS RAINING AND THE AUTOMATIC WIPERS HAD ENGAGED. THIS RESULTED IN THE WEATHER STRIPPING GETTING CAUGHT UNDERNEATH ONE OF THE WIPERS AND SMEARING THE GLUE ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD RENDERING IT COMPLETELY IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE. THE COMBINATION OF THE GLUE FROM THE WEATHER STRIPPING COMPLETELY OBSCURING MY VISIBILITY, THE WIPERS BEING RENDERED WHOLLY INOPERABLE, AND THE HEAVY RAIN WAS A DEVASTATING COMBINATION. I WAS ON A HIGHWAY, DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 70 MILES PER HOUR, WITH MILD TO HEAVY TRAFFIC, WHILE IT WAS RAINING, AND IN THE SPAN OF LESS THAN FIVE SECONDS: (1) THE TRIM TO MY WINDSHIELD FLEW OFF IN TRAFFIC; (2) THE GLUE ON THE WEATHER STRIPPING THAT WAS HELD IN PLACE BY THE TRIM BEGAN REPEATEDLY FLAPPING ON THE WINDSHIELD; (3) THE WIPERS, ALREADY ENGAGED, GOT CAUGHT ON THE FLAPPING WEATHER STRIPPING, AND SMEARED THE GLUE ACROSS THE WINDSHIELD; AND (4) THE WIPERS WERE LEFT COMPLETELY INOPERABLE DUE TO THE WEATHER STRIPPING THAT THEY HAD GOTTEN CAUGHT ON. ESSENTIALLY, IN THE SPAN OF LESS THAN FIVE SECONDS, I WENT FROM BEING ABLE TO SEE AND DRIVE WITHOUT ISSUE TO HAVING TO DRIVE WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO SEE WHAT WAS IN FRONT OF ME.
WHEN THE ENGINE IS "GUNNED" OR WHEN THE RPMS ARE HIGH (WHEN SPEEDING UP QUICKLY), AN EXHAUST SMELL IS NOTICED IN THE CABIN. WE HAVE A PREEMIE INFANT AND A 3 YEAR OLD, AND ARE VERY WORRIED ABOUT THE EFFECTS THIS MAY HAVE ON THEM. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. MOST RECENT INCIDENT WAS 10/21/17
BRAKE HOSE ON FRONT PASSENGER WHEEL FAILED CAUSE BRAKE FAILURE
VEHICLE FILLS WILL STRONG SMELL OF EXHAUST USUALLY WHEN ENTERING FREEWAY OR 3/4 TO WOT SITUATIONS(PASSING ETC.) AT OTHER TIMES VEHICLE SEEMS TO BUILD SMELL OF EXHAUST IDLING. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE AFTER FIRST PURCHASED TO FORD AND THEY SAY THERE IS NOTHING WRONG. HAVING SEEN CURRENT REPORTS OF SIMILAR CONCERNS WITH POLICE AND CONSUMER VEHICLES I WANTED TO REPORT AND CONFIRM THE SAME ISSUE IN A NON POLICE EXPLORER. THIS HAS BEEN CONSTANTLY HAPPENING FOR YEARS.
FUEL EXHAUST FUMES IN THE CABIN. STARTING TO GET STRONGER
TODAY, I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY WITH MY AC ON AND BEGAN TO SMELL A STRONG ODOR OF FUEL. AS I DROVE THE SMELL GOT STRONGER. I FINALLY GOT TO MY DESTINATION 10 MINUTES LATER AND FELT SICK AND HAD A HEADACHE.
WHEN I DRIVE FOR A COUPLE OF MILES. I START SMELLING GAS FUMES IN THE INSIDE OF MY CAR. EVEN AFTER I GET OUT OF MY VEHICLE AND PUT MY NOSE TO THE HOOD I CAN SMELL GAS FUMES.
BOTH OF MY REMOTE CONTROLS ARE NOT WORKING AT ALL AND HAVE TO BE PUTTING THE CONTROL IN THE LITTLE BOX TO GET MY VEHICLE STARTED AND CARBON MONOXIDE FUMES ARE PRESENT SO I STOP DRIVING MY VEHICLE FOR SAFETY PRECAUTIONS OF THE SMELL.
THE SMELL OF EXHAUST FUMES ARE PRESENT INSIDE THE VEHICLE CABIN DURING TRIPS. THIS IS CAUSING HEADACHES AND NAUSEOUS FEELINGS AFTER BEING IN THE VEHICLE FOR EXTENDED TRIPS LONGER THAN HALF AN HOUR.
AFTER DRIVING IN MY EXPLORER, WHEN I GET OUT, I GET DIZZY AND NASEOUS. MY HUSBAND HAS THE SAME THING HAPPEN TO HIM WHILE DRIVING WITH ME
CODES P2111 AND P2112 LACK OF/NO POWER VIBRATION AND SUDDEN JERK BACKWARDS. WAS DRIVING 45 MPH DOWN A BUSY ROAD AND INSTANT LOSS OF POWER PUTTING ME AND MY FAMILY IN SERIOUS DANGER
THIS VEHICLE HAS THE EXHAUST FUME ISSUE WHERE THE CABIN FILLS WITH EXHAUST FUMES AND IS DIFFICULT TO DRIVE DUE TO THE SMELL. YOU HAVE TO DRIVE WITH THE WINDOWS DOWN IN ORDER TO TOLERATE DRIVING. THE RECENT RECALL WAS DONE - VEHICLE TAKEN TO DEALER TO HAVE THE AC REPROGRAMED AND TAILGATE SEALS INSPECTED. THIS DID NOT WORK. WE WILL BE TRADING THE VEHICLE IN AND PURCHASING ANOTHER VEHICLE SOON. THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. FORD HAS HAD TOO MANY SAFETY AND QUALITY ISSUES THAT GO IGNORED BY THE MANUFACTURER. THIS VEHICLE ALSO HAS THE PEELING PAINT ISSUE THAT FORD REFUSED TO ADDRESS AS WELL. POOR QUALITY - UNACCEPTABLE.
MY VEHICLE (2013 FORD EXPLORER) LOST IT'S POWER STEERING, WHICH BASED ON THE OWNER'S MANUAL IS ELECTRIC POWER STEERING AND DOES NOT HAVE A MECHANICAL UNIT WITH FLUID. I DID SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND A RECALL OF 1.1 MILLION VEHICLES FOR POWER STEERING UNITS EXISTS WHICH INCLUDES THE SAME MAKE MODEL AND YEAR AS MY VEHICLE. I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO MY DEALERSHIP AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT ALTHOUGH THERE IS A RECALL ON THE SAME MAKE MODEL AND YEAR AS MY VEHICLE, THAT MY VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I WAS CHARGED $223 FOR A DIAGNOSTIC FOR THE DEALERSHIP TO TELL ME THAT THE POWER STEERING UNIT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $1600. AFTER DOING MORE RESEARCH ONLINE, I HAVE FOUND THAT THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE WITH THE SAME VEHICLE AND PROBLEM. I FEEL LIKE ANY VEHICLE OF THE SAME MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR AS THOSE THAT WERE RECALLED FOR POWER STEERING SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL IF THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING. IN ADDITION, I FOUND THROUGH MY RESEARCH THAT THE RECOMMENDED $1600 REPAIR DOES NOT GUARANTEE THAT THE SAME PROBLEM WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. I CURRENTLY HAVE A LOAN ON MY VEHICLE AND I'M NOT SURE I'M INTERESTED IN PAYING FOR SUCH A REPAIR THAT I BELIEVE SHOULD BE COVERED BY FORD, SINCE THERE WAS A RECALL ISSUED FOR THE SAME PROBLEM ON VEHICLES OF THE SAME MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR. I ALSO FEEL LIKE THE DEALER WHICH I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC OVERCHARGED ME FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC WHEN THEY KNEW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS IN THE FIRST PLACE. IN THE RECALL NOTICE THAT I READ IT STATES THAT "LOSS OF POWER STEERING IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND SINCE IT IS HARDER TO STEER AT LOWER SPEEDS THERE IS AN INCREASED CHANCE OF GETTING IN AN ACCIDENT". I FEEL LIKE SUCH A SAFETY CONCERN SHOULD BE COVERED BY THE DEALERSHIP SINCE IT IS OCCURRING WITH SO MANY VEHICLES AND THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE SAME PROBLEM WHICH INCLUDES VEHICLES OF THE SAME MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR.
RECEIVED WARNING LIGHT WHEN I STARTED MY CAR WHICH WOULD STAY ON WHILE DRIVING WHICH WAS DIAGNOSED AS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. IT WAS CAUSED BY BATTERY ACID LEAKING WHICH REQUIRED THAT I PAY OUT OF POCKET TO HAVE THE BATTERY HARNESS REPLACED. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT THE PROBLEM COULD HAVE CAUSED THE ENGINE TO SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY AS THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WOULD HAVE GONE OUT COMPLETELY, IN TIME.
WHILE DRIVING, MY CAR'S POWER STEERING AND ADVANCE SERVICE TRAC WILL GO OUT AND I WILL HAVE TO DRIVE WITHOUT POWER STEERING UNTIL I CAN PARK AND RESTART THE VEHICLE. THIS HAS LEFT ME VERY AT RISK FOR AN ACCIDENT WHEN DRIVING DUE TO THE SUDDEN JERK OF THE WHEEL WHEN CORNERING OR JUST GOING STRAIGHT EVEN.
OVER 2700 COMPLAINTS AND 41 INJURIES TO DATE WITH EXHAUST ISSUE THAT IS RELEASING LARGE AMOUNT OF CARBON MONOXIDE INTO THE CARS THROUGH THE VENTS WAS FOUND TO BE THE PROBLEM FOR MY 2013 FORD EXPLORER THIS PAST MONDAY AT WORLD FORD IN PENSACOLA FL. I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE DEPT THAT THIS WAS THE SAME ISSUE THAT ALL OF THESE OTHER EXPLORERS HAVE HAD AND THAT THE EXPENSIVE REPAIRS DON'T WORK ANYWAY. FORD HAS BOUGHT BACK 3 JUST FROM THIS DEALER ALONE AND SEVERAL CARS HAVE ELECTED TO HAVE THE REPAIRS DONE BUT ACCORDING TO ALL OF THE MANY WEBSITES WITH COMPLAINTS ON THIS ISSUE- THE REPAIRS EITHER DON'T HELP OR MAKE IT WORSE. I FOUND OUT TODAY AFTER BEING ON THE PHONE WITH MORE PEOPLE THAT I CAN COUNT FROM THE 800 # AT FORD AND THE SERVICE DEPT, THAT THIS DEALERSHIP "ISN'T WILLING TO PARTICIPATE IN ANY REPAIRS" AND WAS THEN TOLD TO HANDLE IT WITH FORD CONSUMER AFFAIRS...WHO KEEPS PUSHING ME BACK ON THE SERVICE DEPT. I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S MORE UN-NERVING ABOUT THIS...THAT FORD KNOWS JUST HOW BIG OF AN ISSUE THIS IS AND THEY HAVEN'T DONE A FORMAL RECALL YET OR THAT IT'S DOCUMENTED THAT I AM A SINGLE MOM, WITH ONE OF MY CHILDREN HAVING ASTHMA AND I'VE HAD HORRIBLE HEADACHES AND STOMACH ACHES FOR THE LAST YEAR- NEVER KNOWING WHY WE'VE BEEN SO SICK UNTIL A FEW DAYS AGO BUT NO ONE WANTS TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT! SO, I'LL FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE BBB AND WILL BLAST A REVIEW ON EVERY SOCIAL MEDIA SITE THAT'S CONNECTED TO FORD UNTIL SOMEONE STEPS FORWARD AND EITHER TRIES TO SEE IF A REPAIR WILL WORK OR WILL BUY IT BACK FROM ME, ALLOWING ME TO TRADE IT IN FOR SOMETHING SAFE! HOW MANY PEOPLE NEED TO BE SICK OR DIE FROM CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING OR CONTINUE TO HAVE WRECKS FROM PASSING OUT FROM THE CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING BEFORE FORD ACTUALLY DOES A FULL RECALL AND FIXES OUR CARS THAT WE ALL PAID A DECENT AMOUNT OF MONEY FOR? HORRIBLE SMELL, LOSS OF POWER, POOR GAS MILEAGE.

WHEN TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE THE VEHICLE STARTED PULLING MY STEERING TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT WHEN NOT DRIVING STRAIGHT. THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD POP TO ONE SIDE OR THE OTHER MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO MAINTAIN MY LANE ON THE INTERSTATE. DASHBOARD LIGHTS APPEARED INDICATING TRAC CONTROL AND TRAC SYSTEM MAINTANENCE. AFTER EXITING THE HIGHWAY THE VEHICLE MADE A LOUD POPPING AND SCREECHING NOISE WHEN MAKING A SHARP TURN, THE WHEEL BECAME MORE DIFFICULT TO TURN AND WAS PHYSICALLY CHALLENGING. REALIZING THE SEVERITY OF THE SITUATION AND FEELING THE LOSS OF CONTROL BEHIND THE WHEEL I ATTEMPTED TO PULL INTO A PARKING LOT WHEN THE STEERING COMPLETELY LOCKED UP. THE WHEEL WOULDN'T BUDGE AND I WAS LEFT STRANDED WITH THE CAR JACKNIFED ON A SIDE STREET. A TOW TRUCK WAS REQUIRED TO REMOVE THE CAR FROM THE STREET AND I HAD TO REMOVE MYSELF AND MY 4 WEEK OLD BABY FROM THE CAR AND TO SAFETY WHILE WAITING FOR AN ALTERNATE RIDE. VERY SCARY AND UPSETTING. THANKFULLY IT DID NOT HAPPEN ON THE INTERSTATE OR IT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A POTENTIALLY FATAL ACCIDENT.
WINDSHIELD MOLDINGS AND TRIMS COME LOOSE. MY MOLDING ON THE PASSANGER SIDE CAME LOOSE AND FLEW OFF ON THE HIGHWAY CAUSING THE CAR BEHIND ME TO SWERVE. LUCKILY THERE WASN'T TRAFFIC AT THE TIME. BUT THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A MAJOR INCIDENT THAT COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED A LONG TIME AGO. I'VE SEEN MANY COMPLAINTS ONLINE ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE BUT NO RECALL YET.
