MY ENGINE FAILED DUE TO THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION. ACCORDING TO FORD TSB 99-20-7 THESE ENGINES WERE ASSEMBLED WITH OBSOLETE ENGINE FRONT COVER GASKETS AND/OR LOWER INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKETS. WHEN THESE GASKETS FAIL, THE RESULTING DAMAGE WILL OFTEN CREATE THE NEED FOR AN ENTIRE ENGINE REPLACEMENT. DUE TO THIS FAILURE AN ENGINE IS NEEDING REPLACING. AFTER LOOKING AT CASES ON THE INTERNET. I FIND FORD NOT CORRECTING A MAJOR DEFECT IN THERE PRODUCT. *AK
CRACKS IN DRIVER AND PASSENGER DOORS. THEY BEGIN ON THE EDGE OF THE WINDOW AND EXTEND OUTWARDS INCREASING WITH TIME.
BOTH TIE-ROD ENDS HAVE FELLEN OFF SINCE JULY 2002. LEFT SIDE WHEN PULLING OUT OF BANK PARKING LOT AND RECENTLY WHEN BACKING UP ON LEVEL GROUND.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED, THE DRIVER SIDE REAR TIRE EXPERIENCED TREAD SEPARATION.*AK THE CONSUMER NOTICED THE TIRE WASN'T FLAT. THE TREAD HAD SEPARATED ON THE TIRE LIKE A CAN OF PEELED BISCUITS. THERE WAS STILL SOME TREAD ON THE TIRE. *PH *JB
1ST COMPLAINT - A LEAF SPRING IN THE LEAF SPRING ASSEMBLY WAS FOUND TO BE BROKEN BY MY MECHANIC DURING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, NO FURTHER DAMAGE FOUND; LEAF SPRING WAS REPLACED W/ FACTORY REPLACEMENT 2ND COMPLAINT - LUGS/NUTS/BOLTS LOOSENED UP WHILE DRIVING, WHEEL CAME OFF, ROTOR LANDED ON INSIDE OF WHEEL RIM, RUINED WHEEL AND ROTOR, BOTH REPLACED ALONG W/ LUGS/NUTS/BOLTS W/ FACTORY REPLACEMENT. *JB
THE DOME LIGHT TAKES OVER FIVE MINUTES TO GO OUT AFTER CONSUMER STARTS THE ENGINE. ALSO, WHEN THE VEHICLE IS OFF THE DOME LIGHT STAYS ON, EVEN WHEN CONSUMER CLOSES ALL THE DOORS. *AK
1998 FORD F-150 XLT SUPER-CAB SHORT BED. STRUCTURAL DEFECT ON DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. RIGHT LOWER EDGE OF WINDOW. DEFECT IS APPROXIMATELY 1/2 IN LENGTH. THIS DEFECT HAS BEEN VIEWED ON NUMEROUS F-150'S THAT I HAVE SEEN. THE SAME DEFECT IS ON ALL. *NLM

TREAD ON DRIVER RIGHT SIDE TIRE SEPARATE WHILE DRIVING AT 70MPH . FIRESTONE WILDERNESS HT SIZE# P235/70R16 DOT # UNKNOWN. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK
1998 FORD F-150 PICKUP TRUCK WITH A 5.4 LITER TRITON ENGINE. WITHOUT ENGINE EVER OVERHEATING, A SPARK PLUG WAS EJECTED FROM THE CYLINDER HEAD. THE PLUG'S THREADS WERE STRIPPED. ESTIMATE TO FIX IS ABOUT $2200.00 *JB
A CRACK IN THE STEEL BY THE WINDOW TRIM ON THE DRIVERS DOOR. THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM ON ALL FORD F-150'S FROM 1997 TO 2003. FORD IS DOING NOTHING TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM THAT THEY HAVE KNOWN ABOUT FOR SEVEN YEARS. *AK
CONSUMER'S VEHICLE COLLIDED HEAD-ON INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 40MPH. NEITHER FRONT DRIVER OR PASSENGER AIR BAGS DEPLOYED.*AK
THE HEATER CORE FAILED THREE TIMES WITHIN THE LAST YEAR. WHEN THE HEATER CORE FAILED, THE ANTIFREEZE LEAKED AND FUMES ENTERED THE PASSENGER'S CABIN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT WOULD NOT WARRANTY THE PART. *AK *SC *JB
WHEN TURNING ON SIGNAL HEADLIGHTS SHUT OFF. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK
CONSUMER STATES THAT VEHICLE'S ENGINE WIRES ARE BURNING UP. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AND WITHOUT WARNING THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL AND IT BECAME DIFFICULT FOR THE CONSUMER TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. *NLM. *AK
THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY FOR APPROXIMATELY 15 HOURS BEFORE IT CAUGHT ON FIRE UNDER THE HOOD. THE LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. THE FIRE MARSHALL AND THE INSURANCE INVESTIGATOR COULD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE. *AK *SC *JB
THE FRONT LEFT TIE ROD BROKE, WHICH CAUSED LOSS OF STEERING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. *AK *TS. THE DEALER REPLACED ALL 4 TIE RODS. THE ROTORS WERE REPLACED WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO VIBRATE WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. *JB
THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS AND WASHER CAME ON AT RANDOM. THE INSIDE LIGHTS FAILED TO GO OFF ONCE THE DOOR WAS CLOSED. *JB *CB *NLM
WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH THE INNER TIE ROD CAME UNHOOKED AND CAUSED THE DRIVER TO LOOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE TIE RODS. *NLM *LA
THE CONSUMER DETECTED AN UNUSUAL VIBRATION COMING FROM THE TRUCK. WHEN THE CONSUMER LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD HE NOTICED THAT THE HARMONIC BALANCER AND PULLEY ASSEMBLY WAS ROTATING ERRATICALLY. IT WAS LATER DETERMINED THAT A BOLT SHEARED OFF THE HARMONIC BALANCER. AS A RESULT THERE WAS DAMAGE TO THE HARMONIC BALANCER, WATER PUMP PULLEY, BELT TENSIONER PULLEY AND DRIVE BELT. *JB *SCC *NLM
THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, WHEN THE LEFT TORSION BAR FAILED. *JB
HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH MY 1998 V6 FORD F-150 PICK UP, REGARDING COOLANT/WATER LOSS, SO HAVE CONTINUALLY DONE COOLANT MAINTENANCE. STARTED THE TRUCK UP LAST SATURDAY 5/7/06 AND THE ENGINE MADE AN AN AWFUL SOUND, AND WHITE SMOKE CAME OUT OF THE EXHAUST. THE TRUCK WAS RUNNING FINE THE DAY BEFORE. MY TRUCK WAS TOWED TO A MECHANIC YESTERDAY, AND THEY SAY THE ENGINE NEEDS REPLACED, WHICH WILL COST $4,000.00 PLUS. I HAVE SEEN MANY, MANY COMPLAINTS FROM F-159 V6 OWNERS, 1997-2000. I CANNOT AFFORD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPOSSESSED, AS I STILL OWE $4,000 PLUS ON IT. I CANNOT AFFORD THE REBUILT ENGINE REPAIR, AND NOW HAVE NO MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION. ALSO, I AM CURRENTLY UNEMPLOYED AND LOOKING FOR WORK. FORD COMPANY NEEDS TO DO RIGHT BY THEIR CUSTOMERS, AS THIS SAME PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED TO SO MANY F-150 OWNERS. A CLASS ACTION SUIT IS CURRENTLY ON-GOING IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA, ACCORDING TO A CONSUMER WEBSITE. I NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM FORD. PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW I CAN JOIN THIS CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT.
FUEL LINE THAT RUNS FROM FIREWALL TO THROTTLE BODY SEEMS TO BE DETERIORATING NEAR DRIVER SIDE MANIFOLD. UNKNOWN CAUSE POSSIBLE HEAT. *JB
STARTED VEHICLE, THEN COULD SMELL AN ODOR, ABOUT 30 SECONDS LATER IT SMELLED LIKE A BELT BURNING. AFTER OPENING THE HOOD AND SEEING A FIRE ON THE DISTRIBUTOR CAP WHERE THE 4 WIRES PLUG IN. I S/O ENGINE AND PUT OUT FIRE WITH EXTINGUISHER. *NLM
RIGHT SIDE TORSION BAR SNAPPED IN TWO GOING ACROSS PARKING LOT.
WHILE PULLING OUT OF PARKING LOT THE CONSUMER NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE CONTROL ARM FELL OFF. THE DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. *NLM
I WAS COMING FROM THE DOCTOR WITH MY WIFE WHEN MY TRUCK STARTS DOING A LAUD KNOCKING SOUND. I COULD NOT FIGURE WHAT WAS GOING ON. THE TEMPERATURE, BATTERY, OIL PRESSURE AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. THE NEXT DAY I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND HE TOLD ME I HAD A BAD HEAD GASKET AND FOUND THAT IT DAMAGE A #1 CYL, BEND CONNECTING ROD, CRACK PISTON AND OF COURSE A BAD HEAD. TO FIX IT WAS OVER $2,500. I LIVE IN A SOCIAL SECURITY DISABILITY WITH A FIX INCOME SINCE FEBRUARY AND CANNOT AFFORD TO PAY ALL THAT MONEY AND BARELY MAKE THE PAYMENTS. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT IT HAS BEEN LOTS OF PROBLEMS WITH THESE ENGINES AND HEAD GASKETS. I TOLD MY STEPDAUGHTER AND WE WENT ON-LINE SURPRISED TO SEE LOTS OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. FORD KNOWS ABOUT THESE PROBLEMS SINCE 1998 ON THE 3.8-LITER V-6 HEAD GASKET USED BETWEEN 1988 AND 1995 ON THE TAURUS, SABLE AND CONTINENTAL, AS WELL AS THE 1995 WINDSTAR AND WE THINK THEY DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM NOT UNTIL WAY AFTER 1998 WHEN THEY ISSUED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN. I'VE HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE DOORS CRACKING ON BOTH SIDE AND FORD TRYED TO FIX THEM , BUT ONE SIDE HAS CRCKED AGAIN AND THE FINSH "SUCKS". THEY PUT FILLER (BONDO)IN THE DOORS AND THE PASSENGER SIDE HAS CRCKED AGAIN.I WAS NOT HAPPY ABOUT THE FILLER BECAUSE THERE WASN'T ANY FILLER WHEN I BOUGHT THE TRUCK. NOW THE PAINT ON THE ROOF IS CRACKING AND PEELING OFF THE METAL AND STARTING TO RUSH BAD AT THE TOP OF THE WINDSHIELD AREA. I TOOK IT IN AND THE DEALER TOLD ME OR THE FACTORY REP. SAID OH WELL WE WON'T FIX IT. I WAS TOLD THE TRUCK WAS NOT UNDER ANY WARRANTY.I HAVE FOUND SEVERAL SERVICE BULLETINS ON THESE PROBLEMS BUT I GUESS FORD DOESN'T STAND BEHIND THERE PRODUCT. I DON'T CARE HOW OLD A TRUCK IS OR HOW LONG YOU HAVE HAD IT , THE PAINT SHOULD NEVER CRACK AND PEEL OFF THE METAL LIKE MINE IS DOING .I'VE SEEN CARS IN JUNK YARDS WITH BETTER PAINT THEN MINE HAS.
ONE TIRE BECAME FLAT WHILE AWAITING FOR TWO OTHER TIRES TO BE REPLACED AND ALIGNED. MR WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH THE TREAD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE TIRE SEPARATED FROM THE OUTSIDE EDGE OF THE TIRE AND CAUSED IT TO BLOWOUT. ANOTHER TIRE ON THE FRONT EXPERIENCED A BLOWOUT ON AT THE SIDEWALL AND ONE WENT FLAT WHILE WAITING FOR REPLACEMENTS WHICH WERE ON BACKORDER. (MICHELIN CROSS TERRAIN). *SCC *NLM
I OWN 1998 F150 TRUCK THAT HAS DEVELOPED A CRACK IN THE DOOR NEAR THE WINDOW MOLDING. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THIS IS A DESIGN PROBLEM, BUT FORD WILL NOT FIX IT UNLESS MY WARRANTY 3/36 IS APPLICABLE. I HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY BUT IT IS NO GOOD. THIS CRACK HAD LIKELY FORMED BEFORE MY WARRANTY EXPIRED. I FEEL IT QUESTIONS THE DESIGN AND STRENGTH OF THE DOOR AND HOW SAFE IT WILL BE WITH CRACKS DEVELOPING WEAKENING IT.*JB
DRIVER SIDE TORSION BAR BROKE DRIVING 60 ON FREEWAY. MADE TRUCK VEER HARD TO LEFT ALMOST HITTING GUARD RAIL. THANK GOD MY SON DIDN'T HIT IT. BROUGHT THE TRUCK USED AND OF COURSE DEALER SAID IT WASN'T UNDER WARRANTY THAT WE HAD. ONLY THE 60 DAYS OR 2500 MILES FROM TIME OF PURCHASED. ONLY HAD IN 25 DAYS. *NLM
1998 F-150 XLT EXTRA-CAB, BOTH PASSENGER AND DRIVER DOORS HAVE A CRACK IN THE LOWER REAR CORNER OF THE WINDOW MOLDING. FORD'S TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN STATES THE DOOR ASSEMBLY SHOULD BE REPLACED REFERENCE MESSAGE # 12071. AFTER CONTACTING FORD THEY SAID THEY WERE SHOWING A RECALL FOR MY VIN# EVEN THOUGH IT IS WIDELY KNOWN TO BE A PROBLEM. THE EVENTUAL RESULT WILL BE STRUCTURAL FAILURE OF THE DOOR WHICH WILL SERIOUSLY COMPROMISE MY SAFETY OPERATING THE VEHICLE.*AK

WHILE DRIVING AT 40MPH AND NO WARNING THE DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH THE TIE ROD END DISINTEGRATED AND FELL OFF. WHICH RESULTED IN LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. *NLM *TT *TS *JB
THE VEHICLES DOOR AJAR LIGHT CONTINUED TO STAY ON . *NLM
THE TIE ROD ASSEMBLY FAILED. *JB. ALSO, VEHICLE NEEDS AN ALIGNMENT. *AK
I OWN A 1998 FORD F150 PICKUP AND HAVE NOTICED A CRACK IN THE SHEET METAL OF THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR JUST BEHIND THE LOWER PART OF THE WINDOW. AN ARTICLE I WAS READING SUGGESTED CALLING A FORD DEALER FOR REPAIR, THE FORD DEALER STATED THAT FORD ONLY REPAIRS THE VEHICLE FOR THE FIRST 36,000 MILES. THE ARTICLE I READ STATED THAT FORD UNDERSTANDS THE PROBLEM TO BE CAUSED BY OPENING AND CLOSING THE DOOR AND WINDOW, WHICH CAUSES THE SHEET METAL, IN THE LOCATION OF THE CRACK, TO FLEX, WHICH OVER TIME FAILS AND CRACKS. THE PROBLEM WILL ONLY GET WORSE WITH TIME AND SHOULD BE REPAIRED REGARDLESS OF THE MILEAGE. MY CONCERN IS THE LOCATION OF THE CRACK AT A CORNER RADIUS AND COULD PROPAGATE TOWARD THE REAR OF THE DOOR. THE CRACK THAT HAS DEVELOPED, CAUSES TWO PROBLEMS, IT CREATES AN OPENING FOR WATER AND SALT TO CORRODE THE UNPROTECTED SHEET METAL ON THE INSIDE OF THE DOOR AND THE CRACK CREATES A PROBLEM, WERE THE VEHICLE TO BE IN AN ACCIDENT AND HIT ON THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR. SINCE THE CRACK HAS ALREADY DEVELOPED, IT WOULD TAKE LITTLE IMPACT FOR THE CRACK TO PROPAGATE ALLOWING THE DOOR PANEL TO BE SEVERED, REMOVING ITS STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY. THE ARTICLE I READ STATED THAT FORD HAS FOUND THAT WELDING THE DOOR DOES NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE CORRECTION CAN ONLY BE MADE BY REPLACING THE DOOR. AS THESE CRACKS HAVE DEVELOPED AND CONTINUE TO DEVELOP ON FORD F150 TRUCKS AFTER 36,000 MILES, HOW ARE THEY BEING REPAIRED? MY GUESS WOULD BE THAT IF THEY ARE BEING REPAIRED IN ANY MANNER, THEY ARE MOST LIKELY BEING WELDED TOGETHER AND REPAINTED, WHICH FORD HAS FOUND TO BE A INSUFFICIENT REPAIR. THE ONLY "REPAIR" IS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE DOOR, WHICH WOULD BE COSTLY FOR THE CONSUMER. THIS PROBLEM WILL MOST LIKELY ONLY GET WORSE AS TIME GOES ON. FORD IS NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR DEFECTS, AS THIS CLEARLY IS A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT. I ASKED THE NHTSA TO LOOK AT THIS MATTER MORE CLOSELY TO UNDERSTAND THE POTENTIAL IMPACT OF THE CRACK THAT DEVELOPS OVER TIME ON THE FORD F150 TRUCK DOORS. *NLM
THIS CASE INVOLVES CONTINENTAL TIRES THAT FAIL SUDDENLY (UNEXPECTED BLOWOUTS), AND DESTABILIZE THE VEHICLE. THIS IS THE 2ND VERY SIMILAR FAILURE I'VE HAD WITH THESE OEM TIRES, THEY FAILED SIMILARLY BY RUPTURE AND TREAD SEPARATION, WITH THE RUPTURED AND FAILED STEEL BELTS CLEARLY VISIBLE UNDER THE SEPARATED TREAD. I'VE SENT THE TIRE TO CONTINENTAL, THEY HAVE LIKELY PUT A PUNCTURE IN IT THAT DID NOT EXIST WHEN THE TIRE WAS SENT TO THEM, AND CLAIMED THAT THIS PUNCTURE HAD CAUSED OVERHEATING AND FAILURE. THEY ARE ATTEMPTING TO COVER UP THESE DEFECTS, JUST AS THEY ATTEMPTED TO COVER UP THE DEFECTS IN THE FIRST TIRE THAT FAILED. SEE A COPY OF THE LETTER BELOW THAT I SENT TO THEM RECENTLY. LEFT TIE ROD ON MY 1998 FORD F150 BROKE WHILE DRIVING. I BOUGHT TRUCK NEW IN 1999. MILEAGE ON TRUCK WAS 29900. HAD TRUCK TOWED TO DEALER, THEY INFORMED ME THAT RIGHT TIE ROD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED TOO ALONG WITH THE LOWER BALL JOINTS AND IDLER ARM. I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY JUST 20 MINUTES BEFORE. I WAS LUCKY. SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME HE HAS NEEDED TO REPLACE THEM AFTER 15000. FROM THE FACTORY THERE ARE NO GREASE FITTING FOR LUBRICATION. ALSO NONE ON REPLACEMENTS. LOOKED AT HERS, WAS ON DRIVERS SIDE, SIMILAR SHAPED FAILURE AS MINE, SAID HERS WAS JUST PARKED IN DRIVEWAY WHEN FAILED. I AM AFRAID TO LET WIFE DRIVE MY TRUCK NOW.
