THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THE HORN AND SPEED CONTROL HAVE GONE OUT ON THIS TRUCK AND I FEEL IT NEEDS TO BE RECALLED I AM TIRED OF REPLACING THE SAME PARTS IN 2 YEARS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A GRINDING NOISE FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE FUEL TANK WAS DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE FUEL TANK AND FUEL TANK STRAPS WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS FOUND TO BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 11V385000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY:MOUNTING). THE DEALER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIRS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE BECAUSE IT WAS NOT TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR THE RECALL REPAIRS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 FORD F150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SMOKE WAS SEEN COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD AREA. THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE AND THE CONTACT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE BY THROWING WATER ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 147,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH A DUAL FUEL TANK. AFTER REFUELING, THE FRONT FUEL TANK WOULD OVERFLOW AND CAUSE THE FUEL TO LEAK OUT OF THE FILLER CAP AND ONTO THE GROUND. THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO A FAULTY FUEL TANK SELECTOR VALVE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A SNAPPING SOUND FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. AFTER COMING TO A STOP THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE BRACKET THAT CONNECTED TO THE LEAF SPRING ON THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WAS FRACTURED. THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 97V171000 (POWER TRAIN) THAT COULD HAVE BEEN RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 135,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 136,000.

WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH THE #2 SPARK PLUG STRIPED ITS THREADS AND BLEW OUT OF THE HEAD. THE PLUG REMAINED IN THE WIRING HARNESS CAP AND CONTINUED TO SPARK. THE REPAIR COST $220.00. I AM TOLD THIS IS AN ONGOING DEFECT IN THE DESIGN OF SOME OF FORDS ENGINES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, A STRONG ODOR OF FUEL EMITTED INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THERE WAS ALSO A LOUD TICKING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A SPARK PLUG DISLODGED FROM THE CYLINDER HEAD AND HE PLANNED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE SPARK PLUGS DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH THREAD AND SEPARATED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 152,000.

EXPERIENCED A COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE HYDRAULIC BRAKING SYSTEM DUE TO CORRODED BRAKE LINE FROM MASTER CYLINDER TO ABS CONTROLLER. *TR
SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF THE HEAD WITH SUCH FORCE THAT IT CRACKED THE COIL AND WAS SPARKING ON THE FUEL LINE WITH FUEL VAPORS COMING OUT OF THE HEAD AT THE SAME TIME. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A FIRE/EXPLOSION IF THE VEHICLE COULD NOT HAVE BEEN SHUT OFF QUICKLY ENOUGH. I WAS IDLE IN MY DRIVEWAY AND NOT ON THE HIGHWAY WHERE IT WOULD HAVE TAKEN LONGER TO SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF. INTERNET RESEARCH RETURNED ASTONISHING AMOUNT OF COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME ISSUE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 FORD F-150. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED THE CONTACT STATED A FIRE STARTED ON THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTO SHOP. THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THE FIRE MAY HAVE STARTED WITHIN THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER FOR APPROVAL IN REPAIRING THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE REPAIR AND OFFERED NO OTHER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000.

7/14/2011 - MY MECHANIC REPLACED ROTTING GAS TANK STRAPS 10/3/2011 - FORD DEALER (AFTER RECEIVING RECALL NOTICE ON GAS TANK STRAPS) APPLIED REINFORCEMENT STRAPS ON GAS TANK STRAPS. NO INDICATION GIVEN TO ME THAT THESE WERE NOT SECURED ONTO FRAME. 10/12/2011 - BROUGHT MY TRUCK INTO MY MECHANIC FOR OIL CHANGE. HE NOTICED THAT THE GAS TANK STRAPS AND REINFORCEMENT STRAPS WERE NOT CONNECTED ONTO THE FRAME ON DRIVERS SIDE REAR. 10/12/2011 - BROUGHT TRUCK BACK TO FORD DEALER TO FIX THE SAFETY RECALL THAT LAST WEEK THEY HAD APPLIED. I MEAN, IT IS HARD TO BELIEVE THAT A WEEK LATER, AND THE STRAPS FAILED. WAS TOLD THAT THEY ONLY INSTALL THE GAS TANK STRAPS AND THAT'S IT. WHETHER THEY ARE CONNECTED TO FRAME OR NOT THAT IS RUSTING IS NOT THEIR CONCERN AND IS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL. THIS IS PREPOSTEROUS. SINCE THE SAME METAL WAS PROBABLY USED THROUGHOUT THE TRUCK AND CAUSED THE RECALL OF THE GAS TANK STRAPS -- A SAFETY RECALL, SHOULDN'T THEY BE SURE TO APPLY THESE TO KNOWN GOOD STRUCTURE AND IF SUCH STRUCTURE SUFFERS FROM THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE GAS TANK STRAPS, SHOULDN'T THAT BE COVERED? I REALLY THINK FORD SHOULD STAND BEHIND ITS PRODUCTS AND ITS SAFETY RECALL INSTALLATIONS AND TAKE CARE OF THE FRAME THAT HOLDS THESE ROTTING GAS TANK STRAPS. THE CAUSE OF FAILURE IS THE SAME. VEHICLE HAD FACTORY ORIGINAL FULL SIZE SPARE GENERAL AMERI550 AS WITH LESS THAN 400 TOTAL MILES DRIVEN HAD TREAD SEPARATION, VIRTUALLY ALL THE TREAD CAME OFF AND TIRE STAYED INFLATED WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THIS TIRE HAD NEVER BEEN DRIVEN ON PREVIOUSLY AND WAS IN AS NEW CONDITION WHEN I INSTALLED IT JUST TWO WEEKS AGO RIM AND ALL WHEN I HAD A FLAT IN MY REGULAR TIRE. AFTER RECOVERING THE TREAD I FOUND THAT THE RUBBER APPEARED MORE BRITTLE AND HAD SUFFERED SEVERE WEAR IN LESS THAN 400 MILES, THERE WERE BITS AND PIECES OF RUBBER MISSING FROM THE TREAD FROM DRIVING ON MY GRAVEL ROAD, THE OTHER TIRES OF DIFFERENT BRAND REMAIN IN GREAT SHAPE AFTER THOUSANDS OF MILES. I COULD HAVE LOST CONTROL EASILY. VEHICLE IS A 98 F150 2WD. *KB

THE DEALER MADE REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE BUT SHORTLY AFTER, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE A FAILURE IN WHICH FUEL WOULD LEAK WHEN REFUELING. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FAILURE AND THAT SHE WOULD HAVE TO PAY TO REPAIR THE FUEL TUBING AND THE FUEL TANK. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED WHO ADVISED THAT UNLESS THEY SAW THE LEAK FROM THE STRAPS THAT THEY WOULD NOT PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 250,000. UPDATED 11/03/11. *JB UPDATED 11/14/11 *BF THERE WAS A SLIGHT LEAK NOTICED AT FUELING AND THE CONTACT NOTICED ONE OF THE FUEL TANK STRAPS HAD BROKEN OFF AND THE FUEL TANK WAS TILTED DOWN. THE DEALER REPLACED THE FUEL TANK STRAPS TO THE VEHICLE. BUT, IMMEDIATELY AFTER, FUEL BEGAN TO SPRAY ONTO THE GROUND WHEN ATTEMPTING TO REFUEL. THE DEALER EXPLAINED IT WAS CLEARLY RELATED TO THE FAILURE REPAIRS AS IDENTIFIED BY THE RECALL HOTLINE AND THAN MANY CUSTOMERS WERE EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER EXPLAINED THAT THE HOTLINE APPROVED THE REPAIRS AND TANK REPLACEMENT FOR SOME AND THEN ARBITRARILY NOT FOR OTHERS. THE RECALL HOTLINE REFUSED TO MAKE ANY REPAIRS OTHER THAN THE FUEL TANK STRAP REPLACEMENT. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT DUE TO THE RECALL REFUSAL, HE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR TO REPLACE THE FUEL TANK. THE TWO REMAINING FUEL TANK STRAPS WERE EXPERIENCING CORROSION AS WELL, BUT WERE NOT FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND WAS REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 11V385000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY:MOUNTING). THE CONTACT EXPRESSED CONCERN BECAUSE ONLY THE FRACTURED STRAP WAS REPLACED UNDER THE RECALL. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT ACCORDING TO THE RECALL, THEY WERE ONLY OBLIGATED TO REPLACE THE FRACTURED STRAP. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WOULD ONLY REPLACED THE STRAP WHICH FRACTURED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE REAR LEAF SPRINGS FRACTURED AND PIERCED THROUGH THE TRUCK BED DUE TO CORROSION. IN ADDITION, THE FRAME UNDER THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE ALSO EXHIBITED RUST AND CORROSION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 175,000.

WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING ON A LEVEL, PAVED TWO-LANE RURAL ROAD, THE FRONT FUEL TANK STORAGE MOUNTING STRAP BROKE. THE FRONT OF THE FUEL TANK DROPPED DOWN AND CAME IN CONTACT WITH THE ROAD SURFACE CAUSING IT TO BE DRAGGED. THE TANK WAS PUSHED BACKWARDS AND IT BROKE OFF THE BRAKE LINE TO THE REAR AXLE CREATING A LOSS OF BRAKING ABILITY. THE VEHICLE COASTED TO A STOP AND IT WAS FOUND THAT THE FUEL TANK WAS PUNCTURED WHERE IT HAD DRAGGED ON THE PAVEMENT, CAUSING A LOSS OF APPROXIMATELY FIFTEEN GALLONS OF GASOLINE ON THE SURFACE OF THE ROAD. THE LOCAL FORD DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE DEALER DID NOT HAVE THE PARTS REQUIRED FOR THE REPAIR. THE FORD DEALER ADVISED TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A NON-FORD REPAIR FACILITY, HAVE IT REPAIRED AND THE COST WOULD BE REIMBURSED BY FORD.
ON 8/22/2011 THE FUEL TANK FELL COMPLETELY OUT OF MY 1998 F-150 TRUCK DUE TO THE FUEL TANK STRAPS BREAKING. THE FUEL TANK AND STRAPS HAD TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THE TANK RUPTURED WHEN IT WAS DRAGGING THE ROAD UNDERNEATH MY TRUCK BEFORE I COULD COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE EMERGENCY REPAIRS WERE MADE BY MYSELF AND DURING THIS PROCESS I ALSO NOTICED THAT THE FUEL TANK VAPOR PRESSURE SENSOR HAD BROKE AS WELL DURING THE INCIDENT. THE SENSOR WAS PRICED AT THE LOCAL FORD DEALER FOR $102.00 BUT THIS PART HAS NOT BEEN REPLACED AND I AM CURRENTLY OPERATING MY VEHICLE WITHOUT THIS SAFETY DEVICE. I HAVE RECEIVED AN OFFICIAL SAFETY RECALL NOTICE 11S21 FROM THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE AND THE RECALL HAS BEEN PERFORMED TO MY VEHICLE EVEN THOUGH THE PARTS WERE BRAND NEW. I HAVE ALSO RECEIVED REIMBURSEMENT FROM A LOCAL FORD DEALER (DONLEY FORD OF SHELBY, OH) FOR THE FUEL TANK AND THE STRAPS. THE DEALER WOULD NOT REPLACE THE SENSOR BECAUSE THEY DID NOT GET AUTHORIZATION FROM FORD TO DO SO. I HAVE CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER CARE AND SPOKE WITH A SUPERVISOR NAMED [XXX]. HE INFORMED ME THAT FORD IS NOT LIABLE FOR THE SENSOR SINCE THERE IS NO WAY TO DETERMINE IF IT HAD BEEN REPLACED PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT. I PURCHASED THE TRUCK WHEN IT WAS APPROXIMATELY 1 YEAR OLD AND THIS PART HAS NEVER BEEN REPLACED. A COMPLAINT # 8802723 WAS FILED WITH EASTERN MICHIGAN BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU ASKING FOR FORD TO REPLACE THE SENSOR, BUT THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO HELP ME AND HAVE CLOSED THE COMPLAINT. FORD'S REASON FOR NOT REPLACING THE PART WAS BECAUSE I DID THE REPAIRS MYSELF. I FEEL FORD IS LIABLE FOR THE PART AND SHOULD SUPPLY ME WITH A REPLACEMENT PART. I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE YOUR ASSISTANCE IN CONVINCING FORD THAT THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PART SINCE IS WAS BROKE AS THE RESULT OF A KNOWN RECALL ISSUE.
