REMOVED ORIGINIAL UNUSED SPARE TIRE FROM UNDER FRAME LOCATION. THE FORD F-150 UNDER FRAME MOUNTING DESIGN CAUSED 8 WEAR POINTS (FROM VIBRATION) AT LEAST 3/16" DEEP INTO OUTER SIDEWALL. THIS HAS CREATED A POTENTIAL UNSAFE TIRE BLOWOUT CONDITION. I HAVE HAD THIS TRUCK FOR ONLY 16 MONTHS (@16,295 MILES) AND FIND THIS NEW SPARE NOW UNSAFE AND UNUSABLE. I WOULD LIKE THIS INVESTIGATED AND OTHER OWNERS NOTIFIED OF THIS SITUATION IF WARRANTED. I WILL BE CONTACTING UKIAH FORD THIS WEEK AND I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THIS TIRE REPLACED. CONTACT ME IF NEEDED. WHEN TRAVELING UPON& DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, PEDAL GOES PASSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, CAUSING PEDAL MISAPPLICATION AND UNWANTED SPEED, RESULTING IN NEAR ACCIDENT. CONSUMER HAS CONTACTED THE DEALER, DEALER HAS YET TO REPLACE PARTS. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *AK
I HAVE BEEN TAKING MY TRUCK IN FOR "SPARK KNOCK" FOR ABOUT ONE YEAR NOW. IT HAS NOT BEEN FIXED YET. THE FORD TECHNICAL REP. HAS LOOKED AT IT ATLEAST TWO TIMES. WHEN IN DRIVE WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL PUSHED YOU CAN GIVE THE TRUCK GAS AND IT WILL KNOCK. AND WHEN IT IS PULLING A TRAILER IT KNOCKS. I WISH TO GET THIS FIXED OR REPLACED. *AK
FRONT LEFT SIDE TORSION BAR BROKE WHILE BACKING OUT OF A DRIVEWAY, CAUSING SUPPENSION TO DROP ONTO THE GROUND . THE DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED. *AK
DRIVER SIDE DOOR HAS A 3/4 INCH CRACK DEVELOPING FROM ABOUT 1" FROM THE ROUNDING FROM THE BOTTOM REAR CORNER OF THE OUTSIDE WINDOW MOLDING (METAL PART OF THE DOOR) AND HAVE NOTICE AVERY FORD 150 I'VE LOOK AT HAS THIS DOOR CRACK. AND OVER HAFE OF HAVE THEM HAVE THEM ON BOTH DRIVER & PASSENGER DOORS. THERE SEEM TO BE A DISIGN FLAW THAT FORD MOTOR COMPANY DOESN'T WANT TO SAY YES TO. AND FIX THE FLAW AND NOT JUST PUT A BAND-AID FIX ON IT. YOU SPEND ANY WHERE'S FROM 22,000 TO 29,000 NOT INCLUDING TAX AND ALL THEY ARE GOING TO DO IS DRILL WELD AND BONDO. THAT'S A POOR ENGNEERING DESIGN. I COULD UNDER STAND IF THE TRUCK ONLY COSTED $1000 NOT ONLY IS THERE A SAFETY CONCERN FOR STARTERS. LETS GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS ONCE AND FOR ALL?*AK
SHEET METAL STRESS CRACK DEVELOPING AROUND THE WINDOW FRAME ON THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR. IT STARTED OUT VERY SMALL AND HAS CONTINUED TO EXPAND. *AK
HOSE CLAMP CAME LOOSE, CAUSING COOLANT LINE TO LEAK ONTO COIL AND SPARK PLUGS. *AK
IN COLD WEATHER, A 2-3 SLIP DETECT OCCURS ON MODERATE HILLS AT LOW ACCELERATION. THE FIRST TWO TIMES THE TRUCK WAS INSPECTED BY DEALER, I WAS TOLD THE PROBLEM WAS THE EXTERNAL TRANSMISSION SENSORS, AND THE SLIP DETECT CODE WAS REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE COMPUTER. PROBLEM IS RE-OCCURING AS THE WEATHER WARMS UP, BUT SLIP DETECT CODE NOT BEING STORED IN COMPUTER. I'VE REFERENCED TSB 99-9-6 (NHTSA ITEM SB606428) TO DEALER, BUT HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE TSB IS IRRELAVENT AND THE TRANSMISSION PAN WILL HAVE TO BE DROPPED TO INSPECT THE INTERNAL SENSORS AT A COST OF $1,200. PLEASE (IF POSSIBLE) SEND ME THE FULL TEXT OF TSB 99-9-6 AND/OR NHTSA ITEM SB606428 SO THAT I MAY USE IT AS BACK-UP UPON MY NEXT VISIT TO THE DEALER. BRAKES FAIL WHEN DEPRESSED, THEN GRAB AT LAST SECOND. DEALER PERFORMED A BRAKE SERVICE CONSISTING OF GRINDING THE METALLIC PADS BUT PROBLEM IS WORSE AND BRAKES NOW GROAN UPON STOP. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 45 TO 50 MPH DRIVER HIT AN TREE. DAMAGES WERE ESTIMATED AT $10,000. ALSO, NEITHER DRIVER'S SIDE NOR PASSENGER'S SIDE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED. *AK
BOTH DRIVER'S SIDE AND PASSENGER'S SIDE DOORS HAVE CRACKED. BOTH DOORS WERE REPLACED. HOWEVER, PROBLEM HAS REOCCURRED ON THE DRIVER SIDE. CONSUMER HAS CONTACTED DEALER. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *AK
WHILE DRIVING THE RIGHT TORSION BAR BROKE AT 14000 AND THE LEFT TORSION BAR BROKE AT 19400, BOTH CAUSED THE FRONT END TO DROP. NLM

BRAKE PEDAL GOES ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. IF YOUR FOOT IS NOT COMPLETELY ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, YOU WILL PRESS THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE DEALER SAYS THIS IS NORMAL AND INDEED OTHER FORD F150 S I HAVE CHECKED HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE HAD TWO CLOSE CALLS BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM.*AK

EXTENDED CAB VERSION; DRIVELINE CAME BENT FROM FACTORY. THIS CAUSED VIBRATION. PARTS WERE ON BACK ORDER. DID NOT KNOW WHEN PARTS WILL BE AVAILABLE.*AK
DRIVERSIDE DOOR HAS A 1/2" CRACK IN SHEET METAL AROUND WINDOW. TOOK TRUCK TO NEAREST DEALERSHIP AND THEY BLEW ME OFF. CALLED FORD MOTOR COMPANY, THEY ALSO BLEW ME OFF. FORD HAS NUMERIOUS TRUCKS IN THE 1997-98 YEAR HAVING SAME PROBLEM. THEY WON'T DO ANY NESSICARY REPAIRS. THEY SHOULD HAVE A RECALL, DUE TO THE FACT THAT THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. *AK
THERE IS A MALFUNCTION IN WIRING HARNESS IN STEERING COLUMN, WHEN THE TILT IS USED. THIS MALFUNCTION CAUSES BRAKE LIGHTS AND TURN SIGNALS NOT TO WORK. DEALER HAS SEEN VEHICLE 6 TIMES, AND WAS NOT ABLE TO FIX IT. *AK THE DEALER FIXED ONLY THE HARNESS BUT IT FAILED AGAIN. THE BRAKE LIGHT AND TURN SIGNAL ARE STILL INOPERABLE. *YH
I HAEV BEEN ADVISED AS FAR AS THE ADVISORY OF WILDERNESS HT TIRES CURRENTLY ON LIST, FOR 1 FIRESTONE DEALER IN MY ARE REFUSED TO INSPECT TIRES PERIOD. I DRIVE HIGHWAYS AND AT THIS POINT NOW WHERE THE TRUCK HAS BEEN DOCKED DUE TO QUESTIONABLE SAFETY OF TIRES. I HAVE BEEN IN TOUCH WITH FIRESTONE NUMEROUS TIMES AND FORD WHICH FORD WILL NO REPLACE THEM AT ALL PERIOD, THESE ARE FACT TIRES STILL ON VEH AND ARE LIKE NEW TO THIS DAY I REQUESTED REPLACEMENTS FROM FIRE WHICH THEY DENIED ME.( DOT NUMBER: W2 TIRE SIZE: 235 70 16 )
TWO OF MY FIRESTONE TIRES HAVE CRACKS IN BETWEEN THE TREAD. WITH WHAT HAS BEEN GOING ON WITH FIRESTONE AND FORD THIS MAKE ME FEEL VERY UNCOMFORTABLE. MOST OF THE TIRES ALL AROUND MY SIZE HAVE BEEN DEALT WITH WHICH MAKE THE SITUATION WORSE. I HAVE CONTACTED FIRESTONE AND THEY HAVE ACTED LIKE THEY COULD CARE LESS, BUT I THINK THE PROBLEM SHOULD BE DEALT WITH BEFORE SOMETHING HAPPENS. I TAKE CARE OF MY VEHICLE LIKE IT IS MY CHILD AND FOR SOMETHING TO HAPPEN THAT ISNT MY FAULT AND FOR THE MANUFACTURER TO ACT AS THEY DO DOESNT MAKE ME FEEL TO WELL. HOW SHOULD I DEAL WITH THIS? CRACK IN DRIVERS SIDE DOOR .SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM.
ENGINE HAS KNOCK AT COLD START UP AND GOES AWAY AFTER ENGINE WARMS UP. I HAD CONTACTED THE ORIGINAL DEALER IN CA. WHENTHIS STARTED OVER A YEAR AGO AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. I HAVE CONTACTED A FORD DEALER HEAR IN ATLANTA AND THEY SAY THEY HAVE NO BULLETINS OFFER ANY REASON OR ANY OTHER COMPLAINTS. I HAVE TALK WITH A FEW OF THE WORKERS AT THE ATLANTA FORD PLANT AND ONE OF THEM HAVE THE SAME MAKE, YEAR, MODEL AND ENGINE AS I DO. HE STATED THAT THE PLANT IN KANSAS AND WINDSOR IN CANADA HAVE SAID THAT THIER WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE HEADS ON THIS ENGINE. WHY IS IT THAT I CAN FIND OUT THIS INFORMATION AND THE DEALERS DO NOT HAVE ANYTHING ON THIS. I LIKE MY TRUCK AND WISH TO FIX THE PROBLEM , BUT CAN'T GET AN ANSWER FROM FORD. IF YOU CAN GIVE ME ANY HELP I WOULD APPRECIATE IT.
OCTOBER 2000 CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON IMMEDIATELY AFTER REFUELING. OCCURED ON SATURDAY, CHECKED OWNERS MANUAL, "OK TO DRIVE, HAVE DEALER CHECK". TOOK TRUCK TO TOWN EAST FORD MONDAY, FORD CHARGED APPROX. $279.00 AND HERTZ APPROX. 70 FOR RENTAL. FORD STATED "SOMEONE DISCONNECTED YOUR MAF SENSOR". THAT IS NOT TRUE! ALSO THEY DID NOT COVER UNDER WARRENTY BUMPER TO BUMPER OR EXTENDED OR RENTAL VEHICLE. I THINK SENSOR DISCONNECTED SELF IF THAT IS WHAT INDEED HAPPENED. APPROX 1 YR. AGO THE BLINKERS, AIR CONDITIONER WOULD NOT WORK AT RANDOM. DON'T KNOW IF BRAKE LIGHTS OR BLINKERS WERE VISIBLY WORKING FROM OUTSIDE TRUCK BECAUSE IT WOULD HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING. RETURNED TO FORD. SAID CAN FIX IT IF CANT FIND IT, ARE YOU SURE YOU DIDN'T HIT A BUMP, BRING IT BACK IF/WHEN IT HAPPENS AGAIN. RETURNED AGAIN BECAUSE PROBLEM CONTINUED. HAD TO GET UGLY WITH THE SERVICE PEOPLE. I TOLD FORD TO KEEP IT, DRIVE IT UNTIL THE PROBLEM IS FOUND. THEY DID AND SAID THERE WAS A LOOSE CONNECTION UNDER DASH. WARRANTY COVERED. I KNOW THIS TRUCK IS UNPREDICTABLE NOW. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO REPORT THAT IN MARCH 2000 MY 33 YR OLD BROTHER WAS KILLED WHILE ON THE JOB FOR S&P UTILITIES, I BELIEVE NOW THAT THE TRUCK MAY HAVE STALLED ON THE RAILROAD TRACK HE WAS KILLED ON BECAUSE HE HAD OFTEN COMPLAINED ABOUT THE F150 1998 BOGGING DOWN AND STALLING. I ALSO THINK NOW S&P IS AWARE SINCE THEY HAD PEOPLE OBTAIN ALL OF THE MISSING PARTS FROM THE TRUCK AS SOON AS THEY COULD. HIS NAME IS JOHN CLOUD JR OF MESQUITE TEXAS. HE LEFT 3 KIDS AND WIFE.
THIS FORD F150 1998 HAS FIERSTONE WILDERNESS/HT P23570R16 ON IT. CONSUMER NOTICED THAT FRONT LEFT TIRE STARTED TO SEPARATE. DEALER PRORATED THE TIRE, AND REPLACED IT WITH THE SAME KIND OF TIRE.*AK FIRESTONE PRORATED A NEW SET OF WILDERNESS TIRES AT A LOWER COST. *YH
THE ORIGINAL GOODYEAR TIRES ON THE VEHICLE WERE REPLACED AT 33,000 MILES DUE TO BEING CHOPPED, WHICH CAUSED VIBRATION WHILE DRIVING. *MJS

WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH CONSUMER HEARD A POPPING NOISE. APPARENTLY TORSION BAR COMPLETELY SNAPPED WHICH CAUSED VEHICLE TO BECOME LOP SIDED. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK

TIRES FAILED AT 16,000 MILES THEN AGAIN AT 26,000 COMPLAINT SENT TO FIRESTONE BUT THEY SENT LETTER THAT THEY WILL NOT COVER THE REPLACEMENT BECAUSE THE TIRES WERE BOUGHT BEFORE THE RECALL.
