THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE FUEL TANK, WHICH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED NOR WAS THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 157,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 11V385000, FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE: STORAGE: TANK ASSEMBLY: MOUNTING. THE FORD RECALL CAMPAIGN NUMBER WAS 11S21. HE TOOK HIS VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO BE REPAIRED BUT THERE WAS A BOLT THAT WAS HOLDING THE STRAPS WHICH WAS COVERED WITH RUST AND CORRODED. THE DEALER STATED THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR THE RECALL SINCE THE BOLT WAS COVERED WITH RUST. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE BOLT REPAIR WOULD COST THE CONTACT $300 OR THEY WILL NOT RETURN HIS VEHICLE TO HIM. THE CONTACT DOES NOT WANT THE BOLT REPAIRED IF IT WAS NOT A PART OF THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 64,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC THAT LOCATED THE FAILURE AS THE FUEL TANK BEING CORRODED AND CAUSING THE FUEL TANK TO LEAK. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THE FUEL TANK WOULD NOT BE REPLACED UNDER THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,000.
GAS LEAKING FROM BACK END OF GAS TANK. GAS TANK RUSTED THROUGH ON BACK OF TANK WERE A PLASTIC SHIELD WAS AFIXED BY FORD. REMOVED PLASTIC SHIELD AND ENTIRE END OF GAS TANK RUSTED AND LEAKING. BRUSHED AWAY LOOSE RUST AND MULTIPLE HOLES APPEARED AND GAS POURED OUT. THE PLASTIC SHIELD HAS A SPACE BETWEEN IT AND THE TANK WHICH COLLECTS DIRT/SNOW AND ROAD SALT CAUSING THE GAS TANK TO FAIL AND LEAK. THE REST OF THE GAS TANK IS SOUND EXCEPT FOR THE STRAPS THAT HOLD IT IN PLACE. FORD HAS ISSUED A RECALL FOR THE STRAPS. FORD SHOULD CONSIDER THE ENTIRE GAS TANK FOR RECALL BECAUSE OF THIS PLASTIC COVER THAT CAUSE THE GAS TANK TO FAIL AND LEAK. A VERY SERIOUS DANGER OF FIRE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THE INSIDE COVERING ON THE SIDEVIEW MIRRORS WAS DEFECTIVE MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO SEE. THE DEALER ADVISED THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD OTHER THAN REPLACE THE MIRRORS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN INFORMATION WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 122,000.

AFTER INSPECTING THE FAILURE HE NOTICED CORROSION AND RUST ON THE BRAKE LINE AND THE FUEL STRAPS. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE RUST AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THERE WERE NO RECALLS AND OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO NOTIFIED WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.

THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL FOR REPAIRS UNDER THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 11V385000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY:MOUNTING). THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO BE REPAIRED AND DURING A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS ADVISED THAT THE MOUNTING WAS COVERED WITH RUST. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER DENIED THE RECALL STATING THAT THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO PURCHASE A NEW MOUNT BEFORE THE RECALL COULD BE PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 160,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD F150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HE WAS ENTERING A PARKING SPACE, HE HEARD A LOUD SOUND AND NOTICED THAT THE FUEL TANK HAD DROPPED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT BOTH OF THE STRAPS FRACTURED AS A RESULT OF CORROSION. ALSO, HE STATED THAT AS A TEMPORARY FIX HE PLACED TWO RATCHET STRAPS TO HOLD THE TANK IN PLAC. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND REFERRED HIM TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 190,000.

THE DRIVER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE FUEL TANK HAD DETACHED AND APPROXIMATELY ONE HALF TANK OF FUEL WAS SPILLED. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT BOTH OF THE STRAPS FRACTURED DUE TO CORROSION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO VERIFIED THE FAILURE BUT DID NOT PROVIDE AN OFFICIAL DIAGNOSTIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 105,000.
THE ODOMETER IN MY 1999 FORD F150 PICKUP DOES NOT LIGHT UP WHEN THE IGNITION IS TURNED ON UNTIL IT HAS BEEN DRIVEN FOR A WHILE. IT DOES EVENTUALLY COME ON BUT HAS TAKEN LONGER AND LONGER AS THE VEHICLE HAS AGED. THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR MORE THAN 2 YEARS AND SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE. *TT
THE FILLER TUBE IS RUSTING AWAY CAUSING IT TO POUR GAS ON THE GROUND AS YOU ARE FILLING THE TANK. THEY NEED TO CHANGE THESE ALONG WITH THE STRAPS THAT ARE RUSTING AWAY. MY TRUCK IS THE 2ND ONE I KNOW OF WITH THIS PROBLEM. THE DEALER HAS SAID THEY HAVE CHANGED MANY TUBES ALSO DUE TO RUSTING OUT. *KB
VEHICLE IS ON CURRENT RECALL FOR STRAP SECURING THE GAS TANK RUSTING. NOT ONLY THE STRAPS ARE RUSTING BUT THE GAS TANK IS ALSO RUSTING. WHEN ONE OF MY STRAPS BROKE THE GAS TANK DROPPED 2 ". BOTH STRAPS WERE REPLACED AND THEN GAS TANK STARTED TO LEAK. I WOULD RECOMMEND THAT THE GAS TANKS ALSO BE CHECKED FOR RUSTING BY THE SUPPORT STRAPS. I HAD TO PAY FOR A NEW GAS TANK TO GET MY TRUCK BACK ON THE ROAD SAFELY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH HE HEARD A LOUD DRAGGING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FUEL TANK WAS HALF WAY DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. ONE OF THE STRAPS WHICH HELD THE FUEL TANK IN PLACE WAS FRACTURED AND THE OTHER WAS SEVERELY RUSTED. NO FUEL LEAKED FROM THE TANK. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE OWNER PURCHASED NEW STRAPS FROM AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND REPAIRED THE VEHICLE HIMSELF. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 200,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING MY 1999 FORD F150 TRUCK (APPROX. 145,000 ODOMETER MILES) AT 35 MPH WHEN ONE (PROBABLY THE FRONT), OR BOTH, GAS TANK STRAPS BROKE. SHE DRAGGED THE TANK ABOUT 300 YARDS BEFORE STOPPING. BOTH STRAPS WERE BROKEN BY THAT TIME AND THE TANK WAS ON THE GROUND WITH A DEEP DENT THE SIZE OF A BASEBALL AND THE METAL SCRAPED CLEAN IN THE FRONT RIGHT BOTTOM CORNER OF THE TANK. IN ATTEMPTING TO STRAP UP THE TANK, THE DAMAGED PORTION WAS SCRAPED ON THE GROUND, WHICH OPENED A SEAM UP AND FUEL BEGAN LEAKING. I HAD TO UNBOLT AND TAKE OUT THE FUEL PUMP BECAUSE I COULDN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO DISCONNECT THE FUEL LINE FITTINGS. THE FUEL INTAKE HOSE WAS SNAPPED OFF. I HAD TO CLIP/CUT THE FUEL SENSOR WIRES BECAUSE I COULDN'T UNLATCH THE SENSOR WIRES. ANOTHER SMALL HOSE CAME OFF (FUEL OVERFLOW HOSE?) EASILY. I WAS THEN ABLE TO PULL THE TANK OUT FROM UNDER THE TRUCK AND DRAIN THE LEAKING GASOLINE INTO A GAS CAN AND HAVE THE TRUCK TOWED. A USED TANK WAS FOUND WITH THE ORIGINAL FUEL PUMP IN IT TO REPLACE THE DAMAGED TANK AND A NEW GAS GAUGE SENSOR ATTACHED. *KB
ON 7/16/11 THE GAS TANK STRAPS BROKE AND DROPPED THE GAS TANK ON THE GROUND WHILE I WAS DRIVING TO THE STORE AT ABOUT 35 MPH. I PAID $94.00 TOWING FEE, $242.03 TO REPLACE THE STRAPS ETC. FORTUNATELY THE TANK DID NOT BREAK OPEN, OR GET RIPPED FROM THE VEHICLE CAUSING A FIRE OR SPILL TWO WEEKS PRIOR I PAID OVER $300.00 TO GET THE BOLTS REMOVED FOR THE STARTER AS THEY HAS CORRODED IN PLACE - STEEL BOLTS INTO AN ALUMINUM TRANSMISSION - GENIUS! *KB
THE ENGINE SURGES OR QUITS AS I AM DRIVING. THIS HAPPENS EVERY 8 TO 10 MILES. I CAN BE GOING 75 MPH ON THE FREEWAY WHEN IT QUITS AND I HAVE TO SHUT OFF THE IGNITION TO RESTART IT. THIS IS AT LEAST THE NINTH TIME THIS TRUCK HAS DONE THIS SINCE IT WAS NEW. I THINK YOU CAN IMAGINE WHAT IT'S LIKE TO BE GOING 75 MILES PER HOUR AND YOUR ENGINE QUITS AND YOU ARE LEFT WITH NO POWER STEERING, OR BRAKES. THIS WILL BE THE NINTH COIL I HAVE REPLACED ON THIS MOTOR. FORD IS COMPLETELY AWARE THAT THERE HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR YEARS WITH THIS SIZE MOTOR. I CAN'T BELIEVE AN ENGINE THAT SHUTS OFF AT 75 MILES PER HOUR HAS NOT BEEN CONSIDERED A SAFETY CONCERN BEFORE. *TR
BRAKE LINE IS RUSTED COULD CAUSE FAILURE OF BRAKES. GAS TANK AND SUPPORTS ARE RUSTED REPLACED ONCE BUT STILL ALL RUSTED. ALL FRAME UNDERNEATH IS RUSTED IMPOSSIBLE TO DO REPAIRS. *KB

1999 FORD F-150. CONSUMER STATES GAS TANK DEFECT *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN HE SON BACKED THE TRUCK OUT OF THE GARAGE, THE ENTIRE GAS TANK FELL TO THE GROUND. THE STRAPS SUPPORTING THE GAS TANK BROKE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP AND THE GAS TANK WAS REPLACED. *JB

I PURCHASED MY 1999 FORD F-150 4X 4 WITH A TRITON 5.4 V-8 ENGINE USED. THE ENGINE HAD APPROXIMATELY 140,000 WHEN I PURCHASED IT. I ONLY DRIVE IT TO AND FROM WORK IN LAS VEGAS, NV (APPROXIMATELY 25 MILES ROUND TRIP) AT SPEEDS BELOW 50 MPH. THE ENGINE BLEW THE BACK PLUG AT 163,000. BECAUSE IT WAS THE BACK PLUG THE LABOR TO REPAIR WAS HIGH (PULL THE ENGINE). THE DIFFERENCE IN PUTTING HELICOILS (ALL EIGHT PLUGS) IN AND A NEW ENGINE WAS NOT THAT MUCH DIFFERENCE SO I ORDER A LONG BLOCK FULL ENGINE FROM FORD WITH STIPULATIONS IT CORRECTED THE DESIGN FLAW. THE ENGINE COST ALMOST $7000 WHEN ALL WAS DONE AND COMPLETE. FORD WARRANTY THE ENGINE 3 YEARS AND 75,000 MILES. I FIGURED THIS CORRECTED THE ISSUES WITH THE SPARK PLUGS BLOWING OUT. WELL AT THE 4 YEAR POINT AND APPROXIMATE 25,000 MILES THE NEW ENGINE BLEW A PLUG. FORD AND THE DEALER (WHOM WE PURCHASED THE ENGINE FROM) SAY IT IS OUR PROBLEM. THE DEALER (PARTS MANAGER) ACTUALLY SAID SINCE I WAS NOT A FREQUENT CUSTOMER AND HAD PURCHASED THE TRUCK USED THEY DID NOT SEE A WAY TO HELP. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE ON THE INTERNET AND BELIEVE IT IS DESIGN FLAW IN THE HEAD. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF HAVING STEEL INSERTS PUT IN ALL OF THE SPARK PLUG HOLES SO I MIGHT GET USE OUT OF A HEFTY INVESTMENT IN A MOTOR WITH A KNOWN ISSUE WHICH FORD WILL NOT BACK. I OWN A FORD CROWN VICTORY, A MERCURY MARQUIS LS, AND THE F-150 TRUCK . . . THESE ARE THE LAST VEHICLES I WILL OWN FROM FORD. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD F150. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH OVER RAILROAD TRACKS, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD NOISE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND MANEUVERED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. HE NOTICED THE FUEL TANK PARTIALLY DETACHED TO THE GROUND IN A TILTED POSITION. THE FUEL TANK WAS NOT DAMAGED AND BOTH METAL FUEL TANK STRAPS WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED. THE CONTACT PERFORMED A TEMPORARY FIX AND WAS ABLE TO RESUME WITH CAUTION. AFTER REACHING THE DESTINATION BOTH FUEL TANK STRAPS WERE REPLACED WITH NEW ONES. AT 11 PM LAST NIGHT, AFTER I DROVE OVER A SMALL BUMP, THE GAS TANK STRAPS ON MY 1999 FORD F150 BROKE, CAUSING THE GAS TANK TO FALL TO THE GROUND AND LEAK A FULL TANK OF GASOLINE ONTO THE STREET. FORTUNATELY THERE WAS NO FIRE, BUT I NEEDED TO CONTACT THE LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT IN ORDER TO HAVE THE GASOLINE CLEANED UP. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A FORD DEALERSHIP AND I AM CURRENTLY AWAITING CONTACT FROM THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. UPDATED 09/14/11 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE STRAPS BROKE OFF COMPLETELY AND HE DROVE A BLOCK WITHOUT RECOVERING THEM. THE METAL PORTIONS OF THE STRAPS WERE RUSTED PRIOR TO THE BREAK. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO ADVISED HIM THAT BOTH STRAPS AND THE TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 126,000.

I FILLED MY VEHICLE UP FULL OF FUEL (26 GALLONS) THE NIGHT BEFORE THE INCIDENT. WHEN LEAVING WORK FOR LUNCH I PULLED OUT OF THE DRIVE AND DROVE APPROX. 400 FEET AT 25 MPH AND HEARD A LOUD GRINDING NOISE THAT WAS CONSTANT, I PULLED INTO THE PARKING LOT 20 FEET AHEAD AND PARKED THE TRUCK. THE FRONT AND CENTER FUEL TANK STRAP GAVE OUT AND THE FRONT OF THE FUEL TANK WAS LAYING ON THE GROUND. THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE FRONT OF THE TANK FROM DRAGGING IT APPROX. 100 FEET. I LOST APPROX. 10 GALLONS OF FUEL AND WAS ABLE TO GET THE REST OUT THE TANK. THE CONSUMER STATED THE STRAPS HAD SURFACE RUST, BUT WAS STILL SOLID AND IN TACT. THE TOP PART WHERE THE STRAP ATTACHES TO THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE WAS GREAT. THE BREAK OCCURRED AT THE BOTTOM OF THE TANK WITH A FULL LOAD OF FUEL. UPDATED 09/16/11.

HAVE HAD A SPARK PLUG EJECTED TWICE NOW WITHIN 3000 MILES. AFTER SOME RESEARCH THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH SOME FORD ENGINES. IT WAS ACTUALLY PRETTY SCARY DUE TO THE STRONG ODOR OF GAS AFTERWARDS WITH THE ENGINE BEING SO HOT. IT NOW SEEMS LIKE ITS GOING TO BE A COSTLY PROBLEM TO FIX. EVEN WORSE, THE FIX IS NO GUARANTEE THAT IT WON'T HAPPEN TO THE REPLACEMENT CYLINDER HEADS. *TR

ONE OF THE METAL STRAPS HOLDING ON THE GAS TANK HAS RUSTED AND BROKEN OFF. THE GAS TAKE IS UNSTABLE AND TILTED. THE OTHER METAL STRAP IS RUSTED BUT NOT BROKEN YET.
