THE TRANSMISSION IN DRIVE AND REVERSE WENT OUT WHILE WE WERE ON VACATION. I WAS ABLE TO START GOING IN 2ND GEAR AND THEN SHIFT TO DRIVE TO GO UNTIL I GOT HOME. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHTS THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM. BOB TOMES FORD SAID THAT I NEED TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. THIS SEEMS A LITTLE BIT RIDICULOUS SINCE MY VEHICLE HAS ALWAYS BEEN PROPERLY MAINTAINED. WE BOUGHT IT NEW. I HAVE ALWAYS DRIVEN A FORD AND HAVE DRIVEN OTHER ONES WELL INTO THE 100,000 MILE RANGE WITH NEVER A PROBLEM. IT IS NOW SITTING UP AT FORD GETTING REPAIRED. IT HAS 65,000 MILES ON IT. *JB
HAVE 2001 FORD F150 SUPERCREW 5.4 ENGINE WITH 51K MILES. ACCELERATED TO ENTER HIGHWAY AND HEARD LOUD "POP", THEN LOST ENGINE COMPRESSION AND HEARD LOUD UN-MUFFLED ENGINE NOISE EMINATING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. HAVING A FAIR KNOWLEDGE OF CARS, I THOUGHT I BLEW THE HEAD GASKET, BUT UPON INSPECTION BY A LOCAL DEALER (COSWAY FORD IN STAFFORD, NJ) WAS TOLD I BLEW A SPARK PLUG AND IT IS NOT A COVERED ITEM UNDER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY. THE SERVICE TECH SEEMED TO KNOW RIGHT AWAY WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS WHEN I DESCRIBED IT, LEADING ME TO BELIEVE THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. AS I GATHERED, UPON RESEARCHING THE INTERNET, THIS IS MORE THAN COMMON, IT IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT IN THE ALUMINUM CYLINDER HEARD. I AM 33 YEARS OLD AND HAVE BEEN AROUND CARS FOR A LONG TIME AND HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM. I BOUGHT THE TRUCK NEW AND BABIED THE VEHICLE. IT SEEMS THIS PROBLEM IS LIMITED TO THOSE YEAR 5.4'S THAT USE THE FLAWED 4-THREAD CYLINDER HEAD, AS TO WHY IN 2003 FORD CHANGED THE DESIGN TO 8-THREADS. PLEASE HELP FORCE FORD MOTOR COMPANY TO FESS UP AND RECALL THESE VEHICLES. I UNDERSTAND IT CAN HAPPEN AGAIN. THIS REPAI WILL BE COSTING ME $501.80, PLUS THE RENTAL OF A CAR (WAS FAR FROM HOME ON VACATION).
I OWN A 2001 FORD F150 4.6 LTER AND AT APPROXIMATELY 105,000 MILES #3 SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF THE HEAD. FORD ATTEMPTED TO REPLACE THE PLUG AND AGAIN IT BLEW OUT. I FIXED IT WITH A HELICOIL MYSELF AS THE EXPENSE WAS $3000 FOR THE DEALERSHIP TO FIX. RECENTLY WITH 121,000 MILES IT WAS RUNNING ROUGH AND WHEN THE DEALERSHIP WENT TO REPLACE THE SPARK PLUGS THEY DROPPED SOMETHING INTO CYLINDER #7. THE MECHANIC STARTED THE ENGINE AND NOW HAVE AN INOPERABLE VEHICLE THAT THEY ARE REFUSING TO FIX.
I OWN A 2001 FORD F-150 WITH 82,000 MILES ON IT AND I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE SPARK PLUGS ON THE HEADS. THERE IS NO RECALL ON THE HEADS WHICH I'VE READ IN MANY DIFFERENT WEBSITES THIS SEEMS LIKE A COMMON PROBLEM THAT MANY 99-03 FORD F-150 OWNERS ARE GOING THROUGH. FORD MOTOR COMPANY NEEDS TO MAKE A RECALL AND FIX THIS PROBLEM SOON OR ELSE THEY WILL LOSE A LOT OF CUSTOMERS.
I WAS IN A 2001 FORD ESCAPE THAT CAUGHT ON FIRE ON AUGUST 20, 2005. THE TRUCK BEGAN SMOKING AND ALL OF THE CHECK ENGINE, OIL LIGHTS CAME ON. THEN THE TRUCK STARTING SHUTTING DOWN. THIS WHOLE TIME I WAS IN THE MIDDLE LANE OF THE HIGHWAY. ABOUT 3 WEEKS PRIOR, I COMPLAINED TO MY MOTHER ABOUT MY CRUISE CONTROL NOT WORKING. I USED IT ON THE HIGHWAY BACK IN FORTH TO COLLEGE. WE NEVER TOOK IT IN ONLY CAUSE A TIME ISSUE. IN THE END, THE TRUCK COMPLETELY BURNED TO THE TRUNK. I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY BY MYSELF, AND I HAD TO WATCH MY TRUCK BURN ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. THIS TRUCK WAS PURCHASED IN JULY OF 2004. *JB
THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING NORMALLY WITHOUT INCIDENT. THE CAR WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY AND TURNED OFF. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 15 TO 30 MINUTES AFTER THE CAR WAS PARKED IT SPONTANEOUSLY IGNITED. THE FIRE DEPT. WAS DISPATCHED AND SUCCESSFULLY EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THE TRUCK WAS DESTROYED AND THE DRIVEWAY SUSTAINED SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE. NOTHING WAS PREVIOUSLY DONE TO CORRECT ANY FAILURES BECAUSE WE WERE UNAWARE OF ANY PROBLEMS OR SAFETY HAZARDS IN THE VEHICLE. *JB
ON 8/12/05 WOKE UP 2001 F-150 ON FIRE DUE TO CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH DEFECT. *NM
FORD F150 STARTED ON FIRE WHILE PARKED WITH THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION.*AK
WELL AT FIRST MY 2001 F-150 SUPERSCRIPT AT 55000 MILES STARTED TO LAG, WHEN I WOULD PRESS THE GAS IT WOULD TAKE A LONG TIME TO PICK UP SPEED OR CHANGE GEARS. THEN ONE DAY I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK GOING ABOUT 55 MPH WHEN I HEAR A LOUD POP, I LET GO OF THE GAS PEDAL BECAUSE IT REALLY SCARED ME I HAD TO REGAIN CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE ONCE I DID I TRIED PRESSING ON THE GAS AND IT WOULDN'T GO ANYWHERE SO I DECIDED TO PULL OVER AND HAVE TO TOWED TO A FORD DEALERSHIP, IT WAS THERE THAT THEY TOLD ME IT WAS GOING TO COST ME 2500 HUNDRED DOLLARS TO FIX. NOW I HAVE TO WAIT TWO WEEKS UNTIL IT GETS REPAIRED. *JB
THE ODOMETER OF A 2001 F150 FORD SUPERCREW SHOWS INTERMITTENTLY ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. THE DEALER WANTS TO REPLACE THE CLUSTER STATING IT IS REQUIRED BY THE STATE TO SEE THE ODOMETER MILEAGE AND IT MAY BE TIED INTO THE VEHICLE ANTI-THEFT DEVICE. *JB I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THE THE FMVSS HAD A REQUIREMENT THAT THE ODOMETER SHOULD NORMALLY WORK FOR THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. FORD DOES HAVE TECHNICAL BULLITINS INTERNALLY THAT SHOW THEY KNOW OF THE WIRE CRACKING PROBLEM ON THE CLUSTERS.
DT: CONTACT STATED THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT CAME UNBUCKLED WHEN A PASSENGER WAS RIDING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THE SEAT BELT WILL GO INTO THE BUCKLE, BUT WITH PRESSURE IT CAME UNLATCHED. THE SEAT BELT CAME UNBUCKLED EVERY TIME SOMEONE WA SSITTING IN THE SEAT. THE SERVICE DEALER STATED THE BUCKLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONSUMER HAS NOT CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER. *AK
MY 2001 F-150 CAUGHT FIRE FROM THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE. THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH. I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE FIRE BEFORE IT RUINED MY TRUCK. *NM
2001 FORD F150 CAUGHT ON FIRE UNDERNEATH THE FENDER ON THE LEFT FRONT SIDE. *MR THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND THE CONSUMER HAD GONE INTO THE HOUSE. THIRTY MINUTES LATER FLAMES WERE SEEN COMING FROM UNDER THE VEHICLES LEFT SIDE. *SC THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE PROBLEM MAY HAVE BEEN FROM THE CRUISE CONTROL. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THERE IS A RECALL, NHTSA CAMPAIGN # 05V388000, ON THE VEHICLE REGARDING THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL. THE PARTS NEEDED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE ARE NOT AVAILABLE AT THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP. THE CONTACT SPOKE TO THE MANUFACTURER WHO HAS CONFIRMED THE PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE. ALTHOUGH A INTERIM REPAIR HAS BEEN PERFORMED BY THE DEALER, THE PART HAVE NOT BEEN REPLACED DUE TO THE UNAVAILIBILITY OF PARTS.
SPARK PLUG GETTING BLOWN FROM THE HEAD, DAMAGING THE HEAD IN A 5.4L FORD F-150. REPAIR WAS DONE BY MYSELF, USING A BIG-SERT REPAIR KIT FROM TIME-SERT. THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME IT HAS HAPPENED. *JB
DT: WHILE THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING A SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT ON 7-30-05. WHEN THE CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP PUT THE SPARK PLUG BACK IN ITS PLACE. THE PROBLEM HAS NOT OCCURRED AGAIN. THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING ROUGH. OTHER THAN THE ABOVE ENTIONED PROBLEMS THE CONSUMER HAD NO OTHER TROUBLE WITH THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE ENGINE. *AK

DT: 2001 FORD F150. THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE PARKED. THIS OCCURRED ON 7-28-05, WHEN THE FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME THE VEHICLE WAS ALREADY IN FLAMES. THE FIRE INVESTIGATOR SAID THAT THE FIRE STARTED IN THE CRUISE CONTROL AREA. THERE WERE NO OTHER OBJECTS THAT CAUGHT ON FIRE. EVERYTHING EXCEPT FOR PART OF THE VEHICLE BED HAS BEEN MELTED. THERE WERE NO OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE EXCEPT FOR A SLIGHT BUMPER ADJUSTMENT. CONSUMER WAS GOING TO CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER NEXT. *AK *NM
2001 FORD EXPEDITION IGNITED INTO FLAMES CAUSING OUR CLIENTS MOBILE HOME AND ALL OF IT CONTENTS TO BE LOST. FIRE DEPARTMENT STATED THAT THE FIRE ORIGINATED IN THE VEHICLE. *TR
MY WIFE NOTICED THAT THERE WAS SMOKE COMMONG FROM MY 2001 F-150 SUPER CREW. I RAN TO MY TRUCK AND PULLED A PLUG OUT WHICH WAS ON FIRE. I BROUGHT MY TRUCK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS PART, BUT MY TRUCK WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. I HAD THEM FIX MY TRUCK WHICH COST ME $200.00. I CALLED FORD AND TALKED TO THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP, BUT NOBODY IS WILLING TO HELP ME OUT.
2001 FORD F 150 WAS PARKED IN PARKING LOT AT APT. CAUGHT ON FIRE AND BURNED TO THE GROUND.
DT: CALLER WENT TO WORK AND LEFT HIS TRUCK AND WHILE HE WAS OUT THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS NOT CALLED, AND THERE WAS NO REPORT FILED. DEALER OR MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED YET. VEHICLE WAS NOT COMPLETELY DESTROYED.*AK
DT: 2001 FORD F150 CREW CAB. ON 7-17-05 WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IT CAUGHT ON FIRE. ABOUT A WEEK BEFORE THIS THE CRUISE CONTROL WENT OUT. CONSUMER DID NOT HAVE A CHANCE TO GET THE DEALER TO LOOK AT IT. THE FIRE CHIEF SAID THAT THE FIRE HAD STARTED IN THE ELECTRICAL BOX AROUND THE CRUISE CONTROL AREA. THE FIRE CHIEF WROTE A REPORT. CONSUMER BELIEVED THAT THE FIRE CHIEF TURNED IT OVER TO THE POLICE. WHEN CONSUMER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER THEY SAID SOMEONE WOULD GET BACK TO HIM. HE CALLED THEM AGAIN THEY SAID IT WOULD BE TURNED OVER TO CONSUMER AFFAIRS. THE NEXT TIME CONSUMER CALLED THEY TOLD HIM THAT THE LEGAL DEPARTMENT WAS HANDLING IT. ALSO, TOLD HIM LEGAL DEPARTMENT WOULD BE SENDING HIM SOME PAPERS TO FILL OUT WITHIN FIVE DAYS. IT HAS BEEN AT LEAST A WEEK SINCE THAT. ABOUT A YEAR AGO IT SMOKED AND MISSED A LITTLE. THE DEALERSHIP FOUND THAT THE VALVE GUIDES WERE BAD. AND THEY REPLACED THE HEADS. THERE HAD BEEN NO OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE UNTIL NOW. WHAT WAS LEFT OF THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AT CONSUMERS HOME. SOME OF CONSUMER'S YARD ITEMS WERE ALSO DAMAGED. THE DEALERSHIP THAT WORKED ON THE VEHICLE WAS STARKE FORD IN STARKE, FLORIDA. *AK *NM
UPON TURNING MY DIRECTIONAL ON TO MAKE THE LEFT HAND TURN IT HESSITATED TO COME ON WHILE THE DIRECTIONAL STILL STAYED DOWN TO GO LEFT. AFTER ABOUT 10 SECONDS THE DIRECTIONAL CAME ON AND SMOKE CAME OUT OF THE STEERING COLUMN AS WELL AS A STREAM OF SMOKE OUT OF THE HAZARD LIGHTS BUTTON ON THE STEERING COLUMN. I SHUT THE DIRECTIONAL OFF AND THE SMOKE STOPPED AND CLEARED AWAY. I PROCEEDED TO MY DESTINATION WHICH WAS ABOUT 100 YARDS AWAY NOT USING THE DIRECTIONAL AGAIN. I CALLED MY DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE FROM AND THEY SAID IT SOUNDED LIKE THE "TURN SIGNAL SWITCH FRIED." BEING THAT THE DEALERSHIP WAS ONLY ABOUT 20 YARDS AWAY THEY CAME AND PICKED MY VEHICLE UP GIVING ME A LOANER VEHICLE TO USE. THEY TOLD ME THE PART HAD TO BE ORDERED AND THAT IT WAS GOING TO COST ABOUT $120.00 FOR THE PART AND LABOR. I HUNG UP WITH THEM AND WAS NOT HAPPY. THAT EVENING AFTER DISCUSSING THE MATTER WITH MY FATHER HE AND I FELT IT SHOULD NOT BE MY RESPONSIBLITY TO PAY THIS AMOUNT ON A DEFECTIVE PART THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED SERIOUS INJURY. THAT NEXT MORNING I PICK UP MY VEHICLE AND ASKED THE BILL TO BE BILLED AND MAILED TO MY DADS BUSINESS, HE OWNS A NAPA AUTO PARTS STORE. AFTER HAVING SHOWED MY FATHER THE BILL AND HE CALLED TWO OTHER FORD DEALERSHIPS, THAT HE KNOWS AND DOES BUSINESS WITH. HE TOLD THEM MY SITUATION AND THEY INFORMED US THAT IT IS A "COMMON PROBLEM" AND THAT THEY FIX THE PROBLEMS FOR THEIR CUSTOMERS AT NO EXPENSE TO THE CUSTOMER. AFTER FIGHTING TOOTH AND NAIL ALL DAY WITH MY DEALERSHIPS MANAGER AND PARTS MANAGER THE DEALERSHIPS MANAGER SAID HE WOULD THROW THE BILL OUT AND NOT CHARGE ME BECAUSE WE ARE GOOD CUSTOMERS. WHY WOULD TWO OTHER DEALERSHIPS PERFORM THIS AT NO COST AND MINE WANT TO CHARGE ME? MY FATHER HAS ALSO CONTACTED FORD AND SPOKE WITH A REPRESENTATIVE ABOUT THIS AND HE WAS GOING TO GET BACK TO US. WHY ISN'T THEIR A RECALL ON THIS?
DT: 2001 FORD F150 CREW CAB XL MODEL. THE CALLER STATED THAT TRUCK BURNED LAST WEEK ABOUT 4:45 AM. THE SOUND OF A HORN BLOWING WOKE THE CALLER UP AND HE WENT OUTSIDE AND SAW TRUCK WAS ON FIRE. CALLED 911, AND THE POLICE AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME AND PUT THE FIRE OUT. THE FIRE STARTED IN THE ENGINE AND WORKED ITS WAY TO THE CAB OF THE TRUCK. THE TRUCK WAS PARLKD AT CALLER'S HOUSE. THE LEAN HOLDERS INSPECTOR CAME OUT ON JULY 14, 2005 AND LOOKED AT THE TRUCK. THE INSURANCE COMPANY WANTED POLICE AND FIRE REPORTS. *AK
DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F150. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ON THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AT SPEEDS OF 90 MPH AND ABOVE, ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. WHILE THIS WAS OCCURRING ONE COULD SMELL A BURNING ODOR, AND SEE SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. AFTER THIS OCCURRED THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP, AND THE DEALERSHIP ASSURED HIM THAT THEY WOULD NOT TOUCH THE VEHICLE UNTIL THEY RAN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND MADE SURE THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY. THE CONSUMER LEFT THE VEHICLE AT THE DEALERSHIP, AND WHEN HE RETURNED HE FOUND THAT THE DEALERSHIP BLEW UP THE ENGINE. THIS HAPPENED WHEN THE DEALERSHIP ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THE CRUISE CONTROL STILL ACTIVATED WHICH CAUSED THE ENGINE TO BLOWOUT. THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT WANT TO REPLACE THE ENGINE BECAUSE LATER FOUND OUT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, AND THE MANUFACTURER HUNG UP ON HIM. *AK
CONSUMERS REAR DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE BLEWOUT ON JULY 9TH. THE CONSUMER WENT TO GET A NEW TIRE AND WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN THAT THERE APPEARED TO BE CUT MARKS ON THE TIRE. *TS ABOUT A MONTH LATER THE FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE TIRE WENT FLAT WHILE THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING. A FEW DAYS LATER THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE FAILED AS WELL. 2001 F-150 CAUGHT ON FIRE WHILE PARKED IN CARPORT. *TS WHEN THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE IT ALSO CAUGHT A PORTION OF THE CONSUMER'S HOME ON FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED FROM UNDER THE CARPORT WHERE IT TOTALLY BURNED. THE FIRE INSPECTED INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE DUE TO A FAULTY CRUISE CONTROL WHICH HAD BEEN RECALLED. THE CONSUMER'S NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTIFICATION. *NM
NO ACTUAL WARNING OF DEFECT. WINDSHIELD WIPERS, POWER WINDOWS, COURTESY LIGHTS, AND POWER DOOR LOCKS SUDDENLY CEASED WORKING. DEALER STATED THE WINDSHIELD LEAKED CAUSING THE GEM MODULE TO FAIL. WINDSHIELD WAS REPLACED, AS WELL AS GEM MODULE. *JB
DT: THE CONSUMER STATES THAT HIS 2001 FORD F150 CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE DAMAGE WAS TO THE FRONT BUMPER. THE WHOLE FRONT END WAS DESTROYED BY THE FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN A PARKING LOT. THE TRUCK HAD BEEN SITTING FOR AROUND THIRTY TO FORTY-FIVE MINUTES. THE ALARM STARTED GOING OFF WHEN THE POLICE NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE. THE FIRE STARTED FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE OWNER RARELY USED HIS CRUISE CONTROL. THE FIRE WAS OUT OF CONTROL AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT HAD TO BE CALLED IN. THERE IS A FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORT FILED. THERE IS NOT A POLICE REPORT. THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS PRIOR TO THE FIRE. THE OWNER DOES HAVE PICTURES OF THE TRUCK SOME AT THE SCENE AND OTHER PICTURES HAVE BEEN TAKEN AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS MOVED. THE POLICE TOLD THE CONSUMER TO CHECK INTO THE CRUISE CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH PROBLEM. *JB
I HAVE A 2001 FORD F150 SUPERCREW PICK UP. I DON'T RECALL GIVING A NOTICE IN THE MAIL, HOWEVER I SAW A STORY ON TV ABOUT A WOMAN WHOSE HOME BURNED DOWN DUE TO THE DEFECT OF THE CRUISE CONTROL. MY WIFE DRIVES THE VEHICLE TO WORK EVERYDAY IN WESLACO AND THE DEALERSHIP IS JUST A BLOCK AWAY FROM HER OFFICE. THIS IS NOT THE DEALERSHIP THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED FROM. MY WIFE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP TWICE TO GET THE RECALL FIXED BUT THE CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT WAS SO RUDE SHE DIDN'T LEAVE IT. THE LAST TIME WAS JUST WEDNESDAY JUNE 8TH.THERE IS MORE TO TELL ABOUT THIS BUT NOT ENOUGH SPACE. I AM UNEMPLOYED AND MY WIFE'S INCOME IS ALL WE HAVE RIGHT NOW SO OUR INSURANCE HAD LAPSED SO SHE PARKED THE TRUCK OUTSIDE MY MOTHER IN LAW'S HOUSE AND MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HER MOM'S CAR. TUESDAY JUNE 14TH AT ABOUT 4PM SOMEONE KNOCKED ON MY MOTHER IN LAW'S DOOR AND TOLD HER THAT THE TRUCK WAS ON FIRE. SHE CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND THEY CAME AND PUT IT OUT BUT THE ENTIRE TRUCK WAS GONE. THE FIRE MARSHAL TOLD HUNDREDS OF PHOTOS AND DOCUMENTED EVERYTHING. HE TOLD US THAT IT WAS DEFINTELY THE RECALL OF A FACTORY DEFAULT. HE SAID THERE HAD BEEN 5 CASES IN WESLACO ALL THE SAME. THE FIRE STARTS IN THE MOTOR UNDER THE FRONT SIDE LEFT TIRE. THE TIRE POPPED, THE HOOD WAS TOTALLY BURNS AWAY THE BUMPER AND THE PAINT ON THE SIDES. THE DASH BOARD, SIDE MIRRORS AND THE MOTOR IS ALL ONE MOLDED PIECE. THE WINSHIELD EXPLODED WITH GLASS EVERYWHERE. I AM ONLY THANKFUL THAT IT DIDN'T BURN DOWN THE HOUSE OR THAT SOMEONE I LOVE WASN'T DRIVING IT WHEN THE FIRE STARTED.
INSD WAS DRIVING HIS VEHICLE, IT STARTED TO CUT OUT SO HE PULLED OVER AND CALLED FOR SOMEONE TO PICK IT UP. WHEN HE RETURNED THE VEHICLE HAS COMPLETLY BURNED. FIRE DEPARTMENT SAYS NOT ARSON, FIRE ORIGINATED UNDER THE HOOD NEAR THE FIREWALL.
DT: THE CONSUMER STATES THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT WOULD COME UNFASTENED. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS COMPONENT, THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED. THE DEALERSHIP FOUND THE SEAT BELT TO BE FINE. THE CONSUMER DID HAVE TO REPLACE THE BUCKLE ASSEMBLY OF THE SEATBELT. *AK
DT: THE VEHICLE STARTED TO BUCK, AND THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WHEN HE TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY TOLD HIM THAT THERE MOISTURE WAS GETTING INTO THE IGNITION COILS, CAUSING THEM TO RUST. THE CONSUMER HAD ONE OF THE IGNITION COILS REPLACED, IN 6-05 AND IN 8-05, THE CONSUMER HAD TAKEN VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THEY TOLD HIM THAT IT APPEARED THAT IT WAS HAPPENING TO TWO OTHER CYLINDERS. AS OF NOW HE HAS NOT HAD THE OTHER TWO REPLACED. THERE WERE NO OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE . *AK
DT: PROBLEMS BEGAN ON 5/23/05 WHILE TURNING RIGHT IN NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS ON DRY PAVEMENT. CALLER BELIEVED THE PASSENGER'S SIDE TIE ROD POPPED OFF THE BALL JOINT. NO WARNING LIGHTS ON IN VEHICLE. IT WAS NOT PULLING OR MAKING ANY NOISE. VEHICLE WAS GOING ABOUT 10 MPH. VEHICLE WAS IN THE SHOP. AFTER STOPPING THE VEHICLE, DRIVER NOTICED THE PASSENGER WHEEL WAS TURNED TO THE RIGHT, ALL OTHER WHEELS WERE FACING FORWARD. IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND REPAIRED.*AK
VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN, AND PARKED AT THE PLACE OF BUSINESS FOR APPROXIMATELY 40 MIN., WHEN A PASSERBY CAME INTO THE PLACE OF BUSINESS AND REPORTED A VEHICLE ON FIRE. ON INVESTIGATION, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS MINE- A 2001 FORD F-150 PICKUP TRUCK. THE FIRE WAS IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AROUND THE MASTER CYLINDER AND SURROUNDING AREAS. THE WHEEL WELL AREA WAS DAMAGED; THE MASTER CYLINER RESEVOIR WAS ABSENT; AND THE FIRE DAMAGE OCCURED TO THE INTERIOR PORTION OF THE COMPARTMENT INCLUDING THE FIREWALL. THE INSUREANCE COMPANY WAS NOTIFIED, THE LOCAL FORD DEALER WAS ALSO ASKED ABOUT RECALLS OF THAT VEHICLE DUE TO THE DAMAGE, AND THE LOCAL CONSUMER AGENCY WAS NOTIFIED. I HAVE NEVER BEEN NOTIFIED OF ANY SUCH RECALL, OR ANY SUCH POSSIBLE OCCURENCE OF DAMAGE TO SIMILAR VEHICLES OF THKS NATURE. CURRENTLY, THE VEHICLE IS UNDER INSPECTION BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY AND IS EXPECTED TO BE TOWED FROM MY RESIDENCE TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER. THE LEIN HOLDER OF THE VEHILCLE IS FIRST BANK.
BOUGHT A 2001 FORD EXPLORER 6 WEEKS AGO FROM A FORD DEALER. NOW I AM HAVING A NOISE UNDER THE HOOD OF THE CAR. I AM TOLD IT NEEDS TIMING CHAIN WORK DONE. THERE IS A TSB 02-8-1 OUT ON THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE PROBLEM. APPROX. $800. I DON'T FEEL CUSTOMERS WHO SPEND SO MUCH MONEY ON CARS SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR PROBLEMS THAT ARE EVIDENTLY OCCURING TO A LOT OF THEIR CARS.
DT:CONSUMER WAS SELLING VEHICLE, HE DROPPED INSURANCE. CONSUMER DROVE VEHICLE TO AN APARTMENT COMPLEX WHERE HIS GIRL LIVED. PARKED VEHICLE AFTER DRIVING ABOUT 5 MINUTES, WENT INSIDE, THEN ONE OF THE CHILDREN CAME IN AND INFORMED CONSUMER THAT THE VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE. THE MOTOR COMPARTMENT BURNT. FIREMAN TOLD CONSUMER THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE FOR THE POSSIBILITY OF BURNING. THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE AROUND 6:00 PM. CONSUMER CONTACTED FORD , BUT FORD HAD NOT RESPONDED BACK YET. CONSUMER SAID HE USED VIN TO IDENTIFY RECALL ON VEHICLE.*AK
POWER BRAKES FAILED (ABS UNIT), PEDAL IS VERY SOFT AND LOSS OF BRAKE EFFECTIVENESS TO SLOW/STOP VEHICLE SAFELY. OWNER REPLACED MASTER CYLINDER(REBUILT UNIT), BLEED BRAKES, SAME CONDITION, TOOK TO CERTIFIED MECHANIC REPLACED MASTER CYL. WITH (NEW UNIT) SAME CONDITION, VEHICLE THEN TAKEN TO DEALER FOR ABS HYDRAULIC UNIT REPLACEMENT AT COST OF OVER $800 TO THE OWNER. TOLD THERE WAS A STUCK VALVE IN ABS UNIT. VEHICLE IS 2001 WITH 68,000 MILES AT TIME OF FAILURE, VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO BE DRIVEN AND OWNER HAS 2 SMALL CHILDREN
THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED A TIRE BLOWOUT WITHIN THE SIDEWALL OF THE TIRE ON HIS 2001 FORD F150. *JB THE CONSUMER STATED THE SECOND TIRE DEVELOPED A SLOW LEAK AND THE THIRD TIRE DEVELOPED A CRACK ON THE SIDEWALL. *JB *NM
DT: THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED ON THE STREET, 5 MINUTES LATER THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE FIRE DEPT PUT OUT THE FIRE. THERE WERE NO OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE PRIOR TO THIS . THE CONSUMER ONLY HAD THE VEHICLE FOR 4 MONTHS. IT WAS PURCHASED USED FROM FORD DEALERSHIP. *JB

DT: THE CRUISE CONTROL MODULE WAS SMOKING THIS MORNING. AS SOON AS THE VEHICLE WAS STARTING THERE WAS SMOKE COMING UNDER THE HOOD. THIS JUST STARTED TODAY. THE CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING THIS WEEK. HAVE TAKEN THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER, AND IT IS THERE NOW. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER WAS NOT UNDER THE RECALL. THE TRUCK WILL START BUT WILL NOT GO INTO GEAR. *NM

THE CONSUMER STATED THE REAR COIL SPRING BROKE AND CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE TIRE.
ON OR ABOUT 4/21/05 I WAS DRIVING MY 2001 FORD F-150 TAKING MY SON AND NEPHEW TO SCHOOL. AS I MADE A RIGHT TURN AT THE SCHOOL MY ENGINE STALLED. I LOST ALL STERING CONTROL AND HAD JUST ENOUGH BRAKE POWER TO SLOW THE VEHICLE. I PUT THE TRUCK IN NEUTRAL AND STARTED THE TRUCK. I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE AIR INTAKE CONTROL VALVE. ABOUT 2 WEEKS LATER AT THE EXACT SAME SPOT AND TIME THE ENGINE AGAIN STALLED ON ME. AGAIN, I LOST ALL STERING AND HAD JUST ENOUGH BRAKES TO SLOW SO I COULD PUT THE TRUCK IN NEUTRAL AND START THE ENGINE. MY FORD DEALER IS TELLING ME THEY CAN NOT FIND THE PROBLEM WITH IT AND STATED I COULD PICK THE TRUCK UP AND DRIVE IT IF I WANTED TO. NOT WANTING TO HAVE MYSELF OR MY FAMILY KILLED IN A CAR CRASH I TOLD THEM NO AND THAT THEY NEEDED TO FIX THE TRUCK. THEY AGREED TO TRY AND FIX THE TRUCK. I UNDERSTAND THAT YOU MAY NOT BE ABLE TO HELP ME WITH THIS NEXT ISSUE BUT IF YOU CAN I WOULD APPRECIATE IT. WHILE THEY TRY TO FIND THE PROBLEM WITH MY TRUCK THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO KEEP MY TRUCK FOR 30 DAYS AND I WOULD HAVE TO RENT A CAR. AT $20 PER DAY FOR 30 DAYS THAT WOULD COST ME $600. AFTER SUSTAINING A FRONT END COLLISION, WHERE I SQUARELY IMPACTED THE REAR END OF SLOWLY MOVING LARGE 4 DOOR CAR, NEITHER DRIVER OR PASSENGER AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THIS IMPACT OCCURRED AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, FORCING THE FRONT GRILL BACK AND THE BUMPER DOWN ENOUGH TO IMPEDE THE STEERING OF THE FORD F-150. *AK
