ON 11/11/11 I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK IN MY 2001 FORD F150 AND WAS APPROXIMATELY 1 AND A HALF BLOCKS FROM MY HOUSE WHEN I HIT A POTHOLE AND HEARD A LOUD BANG AND THEN SOME METAL GRINDING OR DRAGGING WHICH I INITIALLY THOUGHT WAS MY EXHAUST THE WAY IT SOUNDED, SO I STOPPED THE TRUCK AND LOOKED UNDERNEATH. THIS IS WHEN I REALIZED THE MAGNITUDE OF THE SITUATION, A STRAP THAT HOLDS MY GAS TANK IN PLACE HAD BROKEN OFF FROM WHAT APPEARS TO BE RUSTED AND THE GAS TANK WAS HANGING BY ONE STRAP . AT THIS TIME I WAS ABOUT 100 FEET FROM MY HOUSE SO I HAD MY SON COME OUT AND I PUSHED THE VEHICLE TO IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE. THE TANK IS GRINDING ON SOMETHING WHEN YOU MOVE THE VEHICLE OR WHEN TURNING THE VEHICLE. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 11V385000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY:MOUNTING). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FUEL TANK WAS LEAKING FUEL DUE TO THE CORRODED STRAPS. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT REPAIRS TO THE FUEL TANK WERE NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER'S SEAT BELT WOULD NOT ATTACH INTO ITS BUCKLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE REAR WINDSHIELD WAS LEAKING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ADDRESSING THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F-150. WHILE PARKED, THE VEHICLE BECAME ENGULFED IN FLAMES. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER. THE CONTACT NOTICED THE FIRE HAD ORIGINATED FROM THE CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORTED TO THE SCENE AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE DEALER WAS WAITING FOR THE MANUFACTURER AND THE INSURANCE COMPANY TO COMMUNICATE IN ORDER TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 101,000.
THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DRIVEN FOR SEVERAL DAYS. IT CAUGHT FIRE WHILE NO ONE WAS HOME. THERE HAD BEEN NO PROBLEMS BEFORE AS FAR AS RUNNING. THE FIRE STARTED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. EXACT CAUSE WAS NOT DETERMINED. *TR
I HAVE NOT SEEN THIS POSTED ANYWHERE. I HAVE RECEIVED THE FORD RECALL FOR THE FUEL TANK STRAPS. MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP CALLED ME WHEN I TOOK THE TRUCK IN FOR THE REPAIRS AND SAID MY FUEL TANK IS LEAKING. THE FUEL LEAK IS RIGHT BEHIND OR AROUND THE REAR TANK STRAP. I DO HAVE PICTURES IF ANYONE WANTS TO SEE IT. THE FORD DEALERSHIP DIDN'T HESITATE TO TELL ME THAT IT WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL AND GAVE ME A QUOTE TO REPLACE IT. I FEEL IT SHOULD BE ADDED TO THE RECALL PROCEDURE. IT SURE SEEMS LIKELY THAT THE RUSTED STRAP CAUSED THE RUST AND EVENTUALLY CAUSED THE LEAK. NOW I HAVE A TRUCK THAT SHOULDN'T BE DRIVEN, WON'T PASS STATE INSPECTION AND FORD SAYS I'M ON THE HOOK FOR A NEW FUEL TANK. THEY KNOW THEY HAVE A PROBLEM AND SHOULD STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND LOOK INTO THIS SOME MORE. I'M NOT THE ONLY GUY THAT HAS THIS SAME PROBLEM. *TR
I HAD NOTICED A SLIGHT RESTRICTION IN THE ACCELERATOR PEDDLE FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD. ON THE DATE ABOVE, I PRESSED DOWN ON THE PEDDLE. WHEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE PEDDLE IT STAYED DOWN AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN ACCELERATING RAPIDLY. TO GAIN CONTROL I TURNED SLIGHTLY TO THE RIGHT AND TURNED OFF THE KEY TO SLOW TO A STOP. I REMOVED THE PLASTIC COVER THAT ENCLOSES THE THROTTLE BODY. IT WAS SECURELY IN PLACE. WHEN I TOOK THE COVER OFF THE THROTTLE SNAPPED CLOSED. IT NOW OPERATES NORMALLY WITH THE THROTTLE BODY COVER REMOVED. ALL PARTS ARE IN GOOD CONDITION AND EXHIBIT NO WEAR. *TR
I WAS DRIVING TO WORK AND HEARD A LOUD POP AND STOPPED THE TRUCK AND CALLED THE TOW TRUCK. THE MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT A SPARK PLUG BLEW OUT OF THE HEAD OF THE ENGINE AND IT WAS GOING TO COST $550.00 TO FIX, HE ALSO SAID THAT IT WOULD BE A TEMPORARY FIX AND THAT I WOULD NEED A NEW ENGINE BECAUSE OF THE DAMAGE. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR SOME TIME WITH THESE ENGINES BECAUSE OF THE ALUMINUM HEADS AND THERE WERE ONLY 3-4 THREADS ACTUALLY HOLDING THE SPARK PLUG. A FORD MOTOR CO. WARRANTY INSPECTOR SAYS THE FORD TRITON V-8 ENGINES ARE "DROPPING LIKE FLIES" BECAUSE OF BLOWN SPARK PLUGS. I WOULD LIKE TO ADDRESS THE FORD SPARK PLUG BLOWOUT ISSUE. FORD TRITON ENGINES FROM 1997 TO 2003 HAD A PROBLEM WHERE SPARK PLUGS WOULD RANDOMLY FLY OUT THE CYLINDER HEAD. THIS APPEARS TO BE DUE TO A FEW ISSUES (ENGINEERING DESIGN FLAW), FIRST THERE ARE INSUFFICIENT THREADS (3-4) IN THE HEAD TO PROPERLY HOLD THE SPARK PLUG. SECOND THE THREADS IN THE HEAD ARE NOT INSERTED, IN OTHER WORDS THE THREADS ARE IN THE ALUMINUM AND ARE NOT VERY STRONG. SPARK PLUG EJECTION IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE FUEL VAPOR STARTS COMING OUT THE SPARK PLUG HOLE, WHICH IS CLEARLY A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. THE FUEL VAPOR CAN BE IGNITED BY THE LOOSE SPARK PLUG - AND IN FACT THERE HAVE BEEN A SMALL NUMBER OF CASES REPORTED OF ENGINE FIRES DUE TO SPARK PLUG EJECTION/BLOWOUT. FORD NEEDS TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIRS OF SPARK PLUG BLOW OUT AND SHOULD EXTEND THE WARRANTY REGARDLESS OF AGE ON THE SPARK PLUG BLOW OUT ISSUE, THEY ALSO SHOULD BE FORCED TO PAY A FAIR AMOUNT OF LABOR TIME, BECAUSE MOST OF THE REPAIRS COST THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. FORD HAS BEEN AWARE OF THIS SERIOUS ISSUE OF AN ENGINEERING-DESIGN FLAW AND NEEDS TO RECALL 17 MILLION VEHICLES FROM 1997-2003. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2001 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED FOR A FEW DAYS WHEN IT SUDDENLY CAUGHT ON FIRE AND BURNED TO THE GROUND. THE CONTACT SUFFERED MINOR BURN INJURIES AS A RESULT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 249,000.
BROUGHT MY TRUCK IN FOR THE GAS TANK RECALL AND NOW MY TANK LEAKS GAS THE ARE TRYING TO SAY IT WAS LEAKING BEFORE I BROUGHT IT IN SO THEY SENT ME DOWN THE ROAD WITH A DRIPPING GAS TANK AND WONT REPLACE IT I HAD MY TRUCK AT MY MECHANICS HAVING SOMETHING ELSE FIXED 2 WEEKS BEFORE THIS AND HE TOLD ME ABOUT MY BROKEN STRAP AND MY TANK WASN'T LEAKING THEN. *TR

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 11V385000 ( FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY:MOUNTING) . THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO VERIFIED THE FAILURE AND DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE FUEL TANK WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 73,000.
ON OR ABOUT 2004, COMPLAINANT PURCHASED A FORD TRUCK, F-150, SUPERCREW, 4X2, MODEL 2001. COMPLAINANT OWNS AND LIVES IN A HOUSE. SAID HOUSE HAS A GATE CARPORT. BY SEPTEMBER 20, 2011, THE ABOVE REFERENCED VEHICLE HAD BEEN PARKED AND TURNED OFF FOR ABOUT ONE (1) WEEK IN THE GATED CARPORT OF COMPLAINANTS HOUSE. ON SEPTEMBER 20, 2011, SOMETIME BETWEEN 12:00PM AND 1:00PM THE ABOVE REFERENCE VEHICLE BEGAN TO BURN INSIDE THE CARPORT. THE FLAMES AND THE SMOKE FLOWING FROM THE VEHICLE EXPANDED INTO COMPLAINANTS HOUSE CAUSING DAMAGES TO THE STRUCTURE AND A MYRIAD OF MOVABLE OBJECTS LOCATED THEREIN. ACCORDING TO COMPLAINANTS FORENSIC EXPERT, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO BURN AS A RESULT OF A FAILURE IN THE VEHICLE'S CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH DEACTIVATOR. *TR
WHILE RETURNING HOME, TOWING 25' PONTOON BOAT, APPROACHING DRIVEWAY WHEN BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR, NO BRAKES. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER THE VEHICLE INTO MY YARD AND STOP WITH PARKING BRAKE. ROOT CAUSE WAS FOUND TO BE BRAKE LINE ABOVE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR WHEEL HAD RUSTED THROUGH AT FITTING CAUSING LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID. UPON CLOSE INSPECTION, MANY BRAKE LINES, TRANSMISSION COOLING LINES, GAS TANK STRAPS (THE LATTER SUBSEQUENTLY REPLACED PER FORD RECALL) ARE DETERIORATING DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUST. ALTHOUGH THIS VEHICLE IS 11 YEARS OLD, IT ONLY HAS 58,867 ORIGINAL, DOCUMENTED MILES, AND HAS NOT BEEN EXPOSED TO EXCESS ROAD SALT (MID-ATLANTIC REGION). I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE BRAKE ROTORS, CALIPERS, BRAKE SHIELDS, EGR TUBE, EXHAUST SYSTEM FROM MUFFLER BACK, AND PARKING BRAKE ASSEMBLY ALL DUE TO EXCESSIVE, AND WHAT I CONSIDER, PREMATURE RUST. IF THAT WERE NOT BAD ENOUGH, YESTERDAY I LOOK UNDER THE TRUCK AND SEE A PUDDLE OF TRANSMISSION FLUID. ONE OF THE TRANSMISSION COOLING LINES BETWEEN THE TRANSMISSION AND THE UPPER RADIATOR HAS RUSTED THROUGH, AND ONCE AGAIN I WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIRS. I HAVE OWNED MANY FORD PRODUCTS IN MY 44 YEARS OF DRIVING BUT HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED ANYTHING OF THIS MAGNITUDE WITH A VEHICLE OF SUCH LOW MILEAGE. BRAKE LINES RUSTING OUT SHOULD BE CONSIDERED A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY CONCERN. IF I HAD LOST BRAKES WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY TOWING A 3000 LB BOAT AND TRAILER IT COULD HAVE BEEN DISASTROUS. I FEEL THE GAS TANK STRAP RECALL IS A START, BUT FAR FROM ADDRESSING THE OVERALL ISSUE OF UNDERCARRIAGE DETERIORATION WITH THIS YEAR/MODEL VEHICLE. *TR
I STRONGLY FEEL THAT THE FRAME AND CROSS MEMBERS RUST AND ROT ISSUES OF THE 2001 FORD F150'S NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. I AM REALLY UPSET AND WITH MY 2001 F150 FRAME AND OTHER UNDERBODY PARTS. A FRAME THAT IS 11 YEARS OLD SHOULD NOT BE SO RUSTED OUT. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND HAVE SEEN ALOT OF ISSUES OF OTHER OWNERS WITH THIS COMPLAINT. I HAVE HAD OLDER TRUCKS AND CARS AND HAVE NEVER SEEN A FRAME IN THIS KIND OF RUST AND ROT CONDITION AT ALL. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT CAN BE DONE WITH THIS ISSUE BEFORE SOMEONE'S 2001 FORD F150 LITERALLY BREAKS IN HALF WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE/HIGHWAY OR EVEN IN A SCHOOL ZONE. I STRONGLY FEEL THAT THE LAST COMPONENT TO FALL APART ON ANY VEHICLE OR TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE IS THE FRAME. TRUCKS ARE MEANT TO PULL CAMPERS AND TRAILERS WHICH ARE HEAVY LOADS AND THE LAST THING YOU WANT TO HAVE HAPPEN IS THE FRAME ON THAT VEHICLE TO BREAK AWAY AND KILL THE DRIVER OR OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD. I FEEL THAT IT TAKE SOMEONE TO DIE BEFORE ANY ACTION IS TAKEN ON VEHICLE SAFETY ISSUES, THUS IM TRYING TO PREVENT. I AM WILLING TO TAKE MY 2001 F150 TO BE INSPECTED ON THIS ISSUE TO A NHTSA SITE OR A MEMBER CAN COME TO ME. PLEASE HELP WITH THIS FORD F150 ISSUE AND CREATE A RECALL BEFORE ITS TO LATE AND SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. PLEASE RESPOND BACK TO ME AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. THANKS *TR
I WAS DRIVING SLOWLY AT 25MPH DOWN A DIRT ROAD WHEN I HEARD A DRAGGING NOISE AND WHEN I PULLED OVER TO INVESTIGATE I SAW THAT MY FUEL TANK HAD FALLEN HALF OFF. WHEN I GOT SOME HELP FROM A FRIEND TO COME LOOK AT IT THEY SAID BOTH MY STRAPS SOMEHOW RUSTED AWAY AND MY TANK FELL. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE STRAPS BUT NOT THE TANK. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 77,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
MY F150 FORD WAS PARKED FOR OVER A WEEK WHEN IT ALL THE SUDDEN CAUGHT FIRE UNDER THE HOOD. I ARRIVED TO FIND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT PUTTING OUT THE FIRE. THE FIRE WAS ON THE DRIVERSIDE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. AFTER LOOKING AT THE TRUCK THE FIRE DEPARTMENT SUGGESTED CHECKING TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL ON SOMETHING. I FOUND THE CRUISE CONTROL RECALL. *TR
FRONT END BOUNCES AND IS EXTREMELY NOISY EVEN AT LOW SPEEDS. MECHANICS REPLACED SWAY BAR AND THERE WAS NO NOTICEABLE CORRECTION OF THE PROBLEM. *TR
FOR A LONG TIME WE HAD ISSUES WITH THE BRAKES EVEN AFTER GETTING NEW ONES,ABOUT 3 WKS BEFORE THE FIRE MY CRUISE STOPPED WORKING.ON THE DAY BEFORE THE FIRE I ROLLED MY FRONT WINDOWS DOWN AFTER I WENT BACK TO WORK,AN WHEN I GOT OFF WORK MY WINDOWS WOULD NOT ROLL UP,AN I COULD NOT GET THE GEAR OUT OF PARK,SO I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF ,AN JUST TURNED THE KEY ON,AN GOT IT TO GO INTO NEUTRAL SO I COULD START IT AN GET IT INTO DRIVE.THE NEXT MORNING I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP TO SEE ABOUT THE WINDOWS,AN BEFORE IT COULD BE CHECKED ,ABOUT 3:00 IN THE AFTERNOON THE ENGINE OFF,THE SHOP OWNER CAME OUT AN THE TRUCK ENGINE WAS FULLY ENGULFED. WE DIDN'T KNOW UNTIL AFTER THE FIRE THAT THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL ON THE SPEED CONTROL SYSTEM THAT COULD RESULT IN A ENGINE FIRE. WE NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE. *TR

THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 11V385000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY:MOUNTING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 271,000. GAS TANK MOUNTING STRAP BROKE AND FELL OFF OF VEHICLE DUE TO RUST. UPDATED 10/19/2011 *LN *TR
THE PLUGS BLEW!! THIS HAS HAPPENED REPEATEDLY AND AS OF NOW(7-2-2014) ALL HAVE BEEN REPLACED. IM SURE THAT WILL START AGAIN BUT THIS IS QUITE AN EXPENSIVE PROBLEM. MY TRUCK HAD 8 PLUGS...THANK GOD THEY DON'T ALL BLOW AT ONCE!! *TR
I WANT TO KNOW WHY THE RECALL FOR THE GAS TANK STRAPS ON FORD F-150 PICKUPS 1997-2004 IS NOT IN NEBRASKA? BECAUSE NEBRASKA IS A COLD WEATHER STATE AND THEY USE CHEMICALS TO DE-ICE THE ROADS?
THE RADIATOR SUPPORT BRACKET BENEATH THE RADIATOR RUSTED THROUGH LEAVING THE RADIATOR WITH VIRTUALLY NO SUPPORT. THE SUPPORT BRACKET HAD TO BE REPLACED AND WELDED IN PLACE... *TR
JUST FILLED THE GASOLINE TANK TO FULL ON SATURDAY EVENING, JULY 30, 2011. LEFT THE STATION AND DROVE ABOUT A 1/4 BLOCK AND THE FRONT PART OF THE GASOLINE TANK FELL OFF. HEARD THE DRAGGING NOISE AND STOPPED. REPAIR GARAGE STATED THEY HAVE REPAIRED MANY WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM. KNEW HOW TO HANDLE IT. CALLED BOB ALLEN FORD IN OVERLAND PARK, KS. ON MONDAY MORNING, AUGUST 1, 2011, AND THEY STATED THEY HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF ANY TSB ON THE PROBLEM. NEVER MENTIONED THERE MAY BE A RECALL ON IT.
LOST POWER STEERING ASSIST WHILE DRIVING. HOSE CORRODED THROUGH AND LOST ALL HYDRAULIC FLUID.

NEITHER THE DEALER, NOR MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 170,000.
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK LAST EVENING AROUND 9:00 PM IN OUR 2001 FORD F-150 PICKUP TRUCK WHEN SHE HEARD A NOISE COMING FROM UNDER THE TRUCK. SHE STOPPED TO INVESTIGATE THE SOURCE OF THE NOISE TO FIND THAT THE GAS TANK HAD FALLEN ONTO THE ROAD WHICH PUT A HOLE IN THE TANK WHICH LEAKED OUT ALL THE GASOLINE. MY COMPLAINT IS IN REGARDS TO A FORD F150 SERIES TRUCK. THE UNDERCARRIAGE AND ALL PARTS UNDER THE TRUCK ARE RUSTING OUT. BRAKES/ROTORS JUST REPLACED AND DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THE THUMPING NOISE WAS DUE TO THE BRAKE FALLING OFF OF THE TRUCK. THIS IS A VERY BIG SAFETY ISSUE AND WHEN CONTACTING FORD, THEY STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL AND THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THEY COULD DO ABOUT IT. THIS IS ALSO ALONG WITH THE RUSTING OF THE DOORS AND DOOR FRAMES AND PEELING PAINT ISSUE THAT FORD HAS YET TO TAKE CARE OF CUSTOMERS FOR THIS KNOWN ISSUE. WHEN CALLING FORD DIRECTLY, THEY STATE THEY ARE VERY SORRY, BUT YET THEY DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. UPON LOOKING UNDER MY TRUCK I NOTICED THE FUEL TANK WAS HANGING DOWN. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION I NOTICED THE REAR STRAP HAD RUSTED AND BROKE APART. THIS LED TO THE REAR OF THE TANK DROPPING DOWN 3-4 INCHES. I REPLACED BOTH STRAPS WITH OEM STRAPS AND AM BACK ON THE ROAD. *TT
APPARENTLY THE STRAPS HOLDING THE GAS TANK ON TO MY 2001 FORD F-150 PICK UP RUSTED. TODAY THE TANK FELL OFF WHILE I WAS DRIVING WHEN ONE OF THE STRAPS LET GO. FORTUNATELY THERE WAS NO FIRE, HOWEVER I SPILLED A FULL TANK OF GAS WHEN THE TANK SPLIT. THE MILEAGE IS 101,000. FORD SAYS IT'S NO LONGER IN WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH THIS SEEMS TO BE A GROWING PROBLEM. *TT

UPDATED 08/15/11 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED BOTH STRAPS FAILED, BREAKING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STRAP. THE TANK DID DROP TO THE GROUND AND WAS DRAGGED A SHORT DISTANCE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F150. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT BUCKLE RELEASED AND FAILED TO CLOSE IN A SECURED POSITION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO STATED THE SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO A DEFECTIVE SPRING IN THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE. THE FAILURE RECURRED BUT THE PART NEEDED FOR REPAIRS WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000.
THE FUEL TANK STRAPS ON MY 2001 FORD F150 ARE COMPLETELY RUSTED. OTHER AREAS HAVE ALSO RUSTED OUT SUCH AS THE RADIATOR SUPPORTS - RADIATOR AND SHROUD DROPPED OUT AND ARE HITTING AGAINST THE ENGINE FAN. THE PICK-UP BED OF THE TRUCK IS ALSO RUSTING OUT. UPDATED 08/11/11 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN HE INSPECTED THE STRAPS, HE FOUND ONE OF THEM COMPLETELY COVERED IN RUST, BUT STILL IN TACT. ALSO, THERE WAS UNUSUAL RUSTING ALL OVER THE UNDERSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE ENTIRE LOWER RADIATOR SUPPORT WAS ROTTED OUT AND THE UNDERSIDE OF THE PICK-UP BED AND OTHER SUPPORTS HAVE MAJOR RUST. UPDATED 08/12/11 THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN THE SUPPORT GAVE OUT THE RADIATOR AND RADIATOR SHROUD FELL ONTO THE FAN THAT IS MOUNTED TO THE ENGINE. I HAVE A 2001 FORD F150 REGULAR CAB LONG BED WITH 75,000 MILES. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH THE RIGHT INNER TIE ROD BROKE CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SHUDDER SIGNIFICANTLY UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THIS BRIEF SHUDDERING CAUSED THE REAR FUEL TANK STRAP TO SNAP IN HALF PRIMARILY DUE TO EXCESSIVE CORROSION OF THE STRAP. LOSS OF THE SUPPORTING STRAP CAUSED THE REAR OF THE TANK TO DROP ALMOST TO GROUND LEVEL WHICH ALSO BROKE THE FILLER INLET OFF OF THE TOP OF THE TANK, COMPLETELY DISCONNECTING THE FILLER TUBE AND PRESENTING A LARGE HOLE FOR FUEL TO ESCAPE. BOTH OF THESE FAILURES ARE NOT WHAT I WOULD EXPECT FROM A VEHICLE WITH ONLY 75,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. EITHER COULD HAVE RESULTED IN SERIOUS INJURY OR PROPERTY DAMAGE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING SOUTH ON HWY 41 IN MILWAUKEE, WI. WHEN I HEARD A DRAGGING SOUND UNDER TRUCK. I PULLED OFF HWY AND DISCOVERED MY GAS TANK WAS DRAGGING FOR APPROX. 2 MILES. DEAR NHTSA, THIS IS REGARDS TO THE FORD RECALL ON FUEL TANK STRAPS. WE LIVE IN NORTHEAST NEBRASKA & HAVE A 2001 FORD F-150 TRUCK WHICH HAS ONE FUEL TANK STRAP THAT HAS RUSTED THROUGH AND THE OTHER IS RUSTED. WE CONTACTED FORD SERVICE STATION AND THEY SAID OUR VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE FORD RECALL. WE CONTACTED FORD AND THEY SAID IT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY, BUT YOU MIGHT WANT TO GET IT FIXED! BOTH FRONT AND REAR FUEL TANK STRAPS ARE BROKE. TANK IS BEING HELD UP BY FUEL LINE IN REAR. FRONT STRAP BEING HELD ON BY PLASTIC COVER ONLY. IN THE PROCESS OF REPAIRING NOW AT A FORD DEALERSHIP. PARTS COST IS APPROX. $80, LABOR IS STILL NOT CALCULATED. THE CONSUMER STATED BOTH STRAP BROKE IN THE MIDDLE DUE TO SEVERE RUST; THE REAR MORE THAN THE FRONT. THE FUEL LINE WAS STILL IN GOOD SHAPE. IT WAS SUPPORTING THE REAR TANK AFTER THE STRAP BROKE. THE TANK NEVER HIT THE GROUND. WHILE BOTH STRAPS WERE RUSTED OUT COMPLETELY IN THE MIDDLE, THERE WAS A PIECE OF PLASTIC BETWEEN THE STRAP AND THE TANK. THE PLASTIC WAS MOLDED AROUND THE STRAPS WELL ENOUGH THAT THE FRONT OF THE TANK WAS SUPPORTED BY THE PLASTIC PIECE EVEN THOUGH THE METAL STRAP HAD RUSTED AWAY. HOWEVER, THE BACK STRAP HAD RUSTED AWAY TO A POINT THAT THE STRAP FELL AND THE TANK WAS ONLY BEING SUPPORTED BY THE FUEL LINE. UPDATED 09/21/11 *TR

WHILE DRIVING DOWN INTERSTATE STARTED TO HEAR A LOAD POPPING NOISE FROM ENGINE. IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER TO FIND THAT ONE OF THE SPARK PLUGS HAD BLOWN OUT OF THE HEAD. HAD TO BE TOWED. STILL WAITING OF COST OF REPAIRS. RESEARCHING ONLINE, IT APPEARS THAT THIS IS COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS MOTOR. *TR
SOFT ALUMINUM HEADS ALLOWING SPARKPLUG THREADS TO WALLOW OUT AND SHOOT THEM OUT HEAD LIKE A RIFLE AND BREAKING COIL MOUNT AND SINCE FUEL STILL BEING SQUIRTED IN IT IS EJECTED INTO A HOT ENGINE MANIFOLD THAT COULD IGNITE THE FUEL AIR MIXTURE AND CAUSE A FIRE. HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH. ON FM1093 ROAD. FORD IS ADDLE IF THEY THINK THEY CAN PASS IT ON TO THE CONSUMER UNSCATHED!
