WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY HERE IN SAN DIEGO, CA. ON DEC. 31, 2018 AT 11:15 AM, AT 65 MPH I NOTICED A CAR IN FRONT OF ME SWERVE AND BEFORE A COULD DODGE THE OBJECT I HIT IT WITH MY LEFT FRONT TIRE. A DELFINITY, DAKOTA, A/T 2, LT265/75 R16. WITH ONLY 28,880 MILES ON THEM. WAS NOT LONG BEFORE MY STEERING BECAME WOBBLY. AFTER MANAGING TO GET OVER TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD IN HEAVY TRAFFIC I OBSERVED MY TIRE WAS FLAT AND DESTROYED BEYOND REPAIR. AFTER REPLACING IT WITH THE SPARE IN THE RAIN. I RETURNED HOME TO CHECK FOR ANY DAMAGE TO MY TRUCK, BUT FOUND NONE. AFTER A CALL THE THE PEPBOYS STORE WHERE I PURCHASED THEM ON APR. 30, 2013, AS WELL AS THE ROAD HAZARD SERVICE PLAN, I LEARNED THEY DO NOT CARRY THESE TIRES ANY MORE. I WAS OFFERED A DIFFERENT BRAND TIRE AS A REPLACEMENT. CAN YOU IMAGINE DRIVING YOUR PRIDE AND JOY WITH THREE TIRES OF ONE BRAND AND ONE OF A DIFFERENT BRAND. UNACCEPTABLE!! AS OF NOW READING THE OTHER MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THESE TIRES I CAN ONLY ACCEPT THEM REPLACING ALL THE TIRES UNDER WARRANTY.
TWO BLOCKS FROM MY RESIDENCE, I EXPERIENCED A LOUD 'BOOM', TREAD SEPARATION AND DAMAGE TO MY RIGHT REAR QUARTER PANEL, FENDER BRACES AND MY EXHAUST PIPE. THE TIRE IN QUESTION IS A GOODRICH T/A KM LT 285/75R/16/122/119/D M + S MUD TIRE. THIS IS A LOAD RANGE D TIRE WITH A MAX OF 65 PSI. I USE 50 PSI. THE TIRES WERE PURCHASED IN 2007/2008, AND MOUNTED ON SEPARATE RIMS. THE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT AND THE MUD TERRAIN TIRES WERE EXCHANGED OFTEN.MY TRUCK HAS APPROXIMATELY 40K TOTAL MILES. IF THE DRIVING ON EACH TIRE WERE DIVIDED EVENLY, EACH TIRE WOULD ONLY HAVE 18K MILES, AT THE TIME OF THE TIRE FAILURE. THE TIRES WERE ROTATED OFTEN. INFLATION WAS CHECKED EVERY WEEK. I CHOSE NOT TO USE THE ROAD HAZARD WARRANTY TO REPLACE THE TIRE. AS IT HAPPENED ON A NEWLY REBUILT STREET.THIS TIRE HAS A 3 PLY SIDE WALL AND A 5 PLY TREAD. THIS TYPE OF TREAD SEPARATION SHOULD NOT HAPPEN. I WANT GOODRICH TO REPLACE ALL TIRES, BECAUSE I'M AFRAID TO USE THEM. HAD THIS FAILURE HAPPENED AT HIGHWAY SPEED, RESULTS COULD BE WORSE. I HAVE TRIED TO REASON WITH GOODRICH CONSUMER REPRESENTATIVES, TO NO AVAIL. THE TIRES 'WERE TOO OLD', BASED ON THE DOT NUMBER. SEARS WANTS TO ONLY REPLACE 1 TIRE. I BELIEVE THE SET TO BE DANGEROUS. THE ORIGINAL 2001 TIRES ARE VERY SERVICEABLE. I NOTICED SOME 59 COMPLAINTS ON 'CONSUMER AFFAIRS' FOR B. F. GOODRICH OFF-ROAD TIRES. MY COMPLAINT WILL MAKE 60. THE FAMILY WAS TRAVELING ON US HIGHWAY 77 ABOUT 45 MILES NORTH OF RAYMONDVILLE ON KING RANCH IN 2001 F150 SUPERCREW (LARIET). WE HEARD A LOUD EXPLOSION AND SAW SMOKE COMING FROM REAR TIRE ON PASSENGER SIDE. WE HAD COMPLETE TREAD SEPARATION BUT DID NOT LOSE AIR. WE WERE ABLE TO DRIVE TO CROSSOVER TO CHANGE TIRES. THERE WAS EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE TRUCK'S WHEEL WELL, FIBERGLASS FENDER, AND REAR PANEL OF TRUCK. ACCORDING TO COLLISION CENTER, IT IS AT LEAST $1800 WORTH OF DAMAGE. *TR

YESTERDAY I NOTICED ONE TIRE WAS FLAT - TRIED TO PUT AIR INTO IT AND IT WOULDN'T TAKE THE AIR. WHEN I CRAWLED UNDER MY TRUCK I NOTICED THE INSIDE WALL OF THE TIRE HAD DRY ROTTED. *TR
VEHICLE IN QUESTION IS A 2001 FORD F150. AS THE TRUCK WAS TRAVELING AT 20 MPH, THE BRAIDED STEEL CABLE THAT RETAINS THE SPARE TIRE IN THE REAR UNDERSIDE OF THE TRUCK BROKE. THIS CAUSED THE SPARE TIRE TO BOUNCE DOWN THE STREET AND STRIKE A FOLLOWING VEHICLE. INVESTIGATION ON WEB FORUMS HAS INFORMATION THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE TRUCKS THAT ARE EXPOSED TO WINTER SALT, THE SALT HAS CAUSED CABLES TO CORRODE IN NUMEROUS TRUCKS. IF THIS HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY, IT EASILY COULD HAVE CAUSED SERIOUS INJURIES OR DEATHS. *TR
WE HAVE HAD THREE INCIDENTS INVOLVING TWO VEHICLES IN WHICH WHEELS HAVE COME OFF OF FORD F-550 VEHICLES DUE TO SHEARED LUG BOLTS. THE WEIGHTS OF ALL OF OUR VEHICLES HAVE BEEN RECORDED AND FALL BELOW THE MANUFACTURERS GVWR. PER A TIRE COMPANY'S RECOMMENDATION, WE HAVE ISSUED A MANDATE THAT ALL SIMILAR VEHICLES HAVE THEIR WHEELS RE-TORQUED, TO MEET THE MANUFACTURERS SPECIFICATIONS AFTER DRIVING, AFTER TRAVELING 50 MILES FOLLOWING ANY WORK DONE ON THE WHEELS. WE HAVE HAD THE WHEELS ON VEHICLE THAT DID NOT COME OFF INSPECTED AND CHECKED TO PROPER TORQUE FOLLOWING ALL INCIDENTS AND THEY HAVE BEEN TORQUED APPROPRIATELY. THE INCIDENT DATES WERE, 12/29/07 ,02/15/08, AND 07/17/08 . ON 12/29/07 AN EMPLOYEE WAS DRIVING UP A ROAD AT APPROXIMATELY 20 M.P.H. WHEN THE DRIVER SIDE BACK DUAL WHEELS CAME OFF DUE TO BROKEN LUG BOLTS. THIS WAS A NORMAL USE OF THE VEHICLE ON A WELL-MAINTAINED DIRT ROAD. ON 02/15/08 TWO EMPLOYEES WERE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 84 TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 60 M.P.H. WHEN THE REAR PASSENGER WHEELS CAME OFF THE VEHICLE AND PASSED THE VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY TRAVELING MILE. THE STUDS WERE ALSO SHEARED OFF IN THIS INSTANCE. THE INTERSTATE WAS IN GOOD CONDITION AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. IT WAS VERY FORTUNATE THAT THE TIRES DID NOT STRIKE ANOTHER VEHICLE. ON 07/17/08 AN EMPLOYEE WAS DRIVING ON OREGON STATE HIGHWAY 82 AT APPROXIMATELY 55 M.P.H. WHEN THE DRIVER SIDE REAR WHEELS CAME OFF. THE WHEELS STRUCK ANOTHER VEHICLE DAMAGING THAT VEHICLE?S BRAKE SYSTEM. IN THIS CASE, A FATALITY COULD HAVE EASILY OCCURRED TO THE OTHER DRIVER. THAT DRIVER?S NAME IS: KEITH CULIVER - 740 11TH AVENUE NORTH, PAYETTE, ID (WORKING FOR TNT FOREST PRODUCTS). WE HAVE REPLACED THE LUG BOLTS ON ALL OF OUR FIVE VEHICLES IN THIS CLASSIFICATION AS AN ATTEMPT TO AVOID FURTHER PROBLEMS. HOWEVER, ONE ACCIDENT OCCURRED FOLLOWING THIS REPLACEMENT. *TR
I PURCHASE A USED TRUCK THAT HAD 4 FAIRLY NEW CONTINENTAL CONTITRAC SUV TIRES (P26570R17). THE TREAD WEAR ON ALL 4 TIRES WAS SIMILAR AND VERY LOW, IMPLYING TO ME THAT THE TIRES WERE RELATIVELY NEW. APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR AFTER PURCHASE, MY RIGHT FRONT TIRE SUFFERED A TOTAL TREAD SEPARATION. AT ABOUT 75 MPH ON A HOT DRY DAY, I HEARD A LOUD ROAR AND AN 'EXPLOSION' FROM THE FRONT RIGHT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. I PULLED OVER IMMEDIATELY THINKING I HAD A BLOWOUT, BUT DISCOVERED THE TIRE WAS STILL FULLY INFLATED BUT HAD COMPLETELY LOST ALL TREAD. I MOVED THE VEHICLE TO A SAFE LOCATION AND INSTALLED THE SPARE. I EXAMINED THE TIRE, AND COULD SEE THAT THE STEEL BELTS WERE STILL INTACT AND APPEARED CLEAN AND NEW. THE LAYERS OF RUBBER THAT SEAL THE BELTS IN WERE VISIBLE, AND IT APPEARED TO ME THAT THE TREAD LAYER HAD SIMPLY NOT ADHERED TO THE CORE. THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF A PROBLEM WITH THE OTHER THREE TIRES. I TOOK THE TIRE TO DISCOUNT TIRE CO., WHICH CARRIES CONTINENTAL TIRES, AND THEY SAID CONTINENTAL WOULD ONLY COVER HALF THE REPLACEMENT COST. CONSIDERING THE DANGER OF A TOTAL TREAD SEPARATION LIKE THIS, AND THAT IT IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT, I'M CONCERNED THAT THE COMPANY (CONTINENTAL) ISN'T SO MUCH AS INCONVENIENCED BY THE FACT THAT THEIR PRODUCT IS CAUSING THIS DANGEROUS SITUATION. I WAS LUCKY, BUT HAD I INSTEAD BEEN ON A CURVE WHEN THE TREAD SEPARATED, I CAN SEE HOW THE OUTCOME WOULD HAVE BEEN SUBSTANTIALLY LESS FAVORABLE. THE DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE WAS MINIMAL, BUT AGAIN, THIS IS MORE LUCK THAN ANYTHING ELSE. JUST GLANCING THROUGH THE LIST OF COMPLAINTS CONCERNING CATASTROPHIC TREAD LOSS ON THIS PARTICULAR MODEL OF TIRE, IT'S DIFFICULT NOT TO BE STRUCK BY THE STAGGERING NUMBER OF THEM. I WOULD VERY MUCH LIKE TO SEE THE NHTSA INVESTIGATE THIS MATTER. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD F150. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. HE PULLED OFF THE ROAD AND CALLED AAA TO CHANGE THE TIRE. THE TIRE BLEW OUT AND THE TREAD WAS NONEXISTENT. FIRESTONE STATED THAT THE TIRE WAS DAMAGED DUE TO NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. THE ENGINE SIZE, # OF CYLINDERS, AND POWERTRAIN WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 56,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,800.
I TOOK MY 2001 FORD F150 TO HAVE A TIRE REPAIRED, ASSUMING IT HAD A NAIL IN IT BECAUSE IT HAD A SLOW LEAK. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE (ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT) ALUMINUM WHEEL HAD A CRACK IN IT. I WAS FURTHER INFORMED THAT THIS IS CONSIDERED TO BE A FAIRLY COMMON PROBLEM WITH FORD'S ALUMINUM WHEELS OF THAT VINTAGE. *JB
AT APPROXIMATELY 9:30 PM, WHILE TRAVELING NORTH ON I-81 NEAR WINCHESTER, VA AT 65 MPH IN A 2001 FORD F-150, THE LEFT REAR TIRE SUSTAINED TREAD SEPARATION. THE TIRE DID NOT DEFLATE. VEHICLE YAWED ACROSS TWO LANES OF TRAFFIC, BUT WAS BROUGHT UNDER CONTROL AND DID NOT ROLL OVER. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE TIRE WAS B.F. GOODRICH MODEL RADIAL LONG TRAIL T/A P235/70R16 AND WAS AN ORIGINAL TIRE ON THE VEHICLE. IT HAD OVER 0.2 OF AN INCH OF TREAD REMAINING AFTER 50,000 MILES. VEHICLE SUSTAINED MAJOR DAMAGE TO THE WHEEL WELL, SIDE PANEL, AND SUPPORTS. THE REMAINING FOUR TIRES (INCLUDING SPARE) ARE BEING REPLACED. *JB

I HAVE A 01' SVT LIGHTNING. I ALONG WITH PROBABLY HUNDREDS OTHERS ON NLOC.NET ALL REPORT PROBLEMS WITH THE STOCK GOODYEAR F1'S @ CORRECT TIRE PRESSURE. THEY ALL SPLIT THE SIDEWALL. I'VE HAD ABOUT 7 F1'S SPLIT ON MY TRUCK IN WITH IN THE PAST YEAR I'VE OWNED IT. ALL OF MY SPLITS WERE ON THE FRONT. I CAN'T SPEAK FOR ALL THE REST OF THE LIGHTNING OWNERS ON THEIR TIRE LOCATIONS. I ALSO HAD A PROBLEM WITH THOSE TIRES PULLING MY TRUCK FROM SIDE TO SIDE IN THE RUTS IN THE ROAD. I THOUGHT MAYBE IT WAS NORMAL FOR SUCH WIDE TIRES. I RUN NITTO TIRES ON IT NOW WITH NO ISSUES (SPLITTING OR PULLING) WHAT SO EVER. I NO LONGER USE ANY TYPE OF GOODYEAR TIRES ON ANY OF MY CARS AND TRUCK. KRAMER GOODYEAR TOLD ME THE LAST TIME THAT GOODYEAR IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND THEY'LL PRORATE ME A PRICE ON A NEW F150. AFTER THE 7TH TIME I ASKED WHY WOULD I WANT TO KEEP BUYING ANOTHER OVERPRICED F150 OVER AND OVER AGAIN THAT I KNOW WILL SPLIT SOONER OR LATER AND I'D BE RIGHT BACK IN HERE GETTING A PRORATED TIRE AGAIN? THE 295/45/18 GOODYEAR F1 IS A DEFECTIVE TIRE AND SOMEONE IF THEY HAVEN'T ALREADY ARE GOING TO BE KILLED RUNNING THESE TIRES. LIGHTNING ARE HIGH PERFORMANCE TRUCKS AND MOST PEOPLE THAT OWN THEM, RACE THEM. FORD SHOULD REALLY CANCEL THEIR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOODYEAR(NASCAR SHOULD TOO). CONSUMERS REAR DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE BLEWOUT ON JULY 9TH. THE CONSUMER WENT TO GET A NEW TIRE AND WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN THAT THERE APPEARED TO BE CUT MARKS ON THE TIRE. *TS ABOUT A MONTH LATER THE FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE TIRE WENT FLAT WHILE THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING. A FEW DAYS LATER THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE FAILED AS WELL.
