HEATER/AIR BLOWER CAUGHT ON FIRE. THERE WAS NOT AN OBSTRUCTION CAUSING THE FAN/BLOWER TO OVER HEAT. I CAUGHT IT SOON AFTER THE FIRE STARTED SO WAS ABLE TO PUT IT OUT BEFORE THE ENTIRE VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY IN MY FRONT DRIVEWAY AND HAD JUST STARTED IT RUNNING TO WARM UP.
AT APPROX 0800 ON 12/03/2018 WHILE DROPPING MY DAUGHTER OFF AT POTOMAC HEIGHTS ELEMENTRY SCHOOL, WE WERE SITTING STILL WAITING IN THE PARENTS DROP OFF LINE ON THE SCHOOL PROPERTY WHEN WE HEARD A VERY LOUD BANG, MY DAUGHTER POINTED AT THE REAR WINDOW AND SAID THAT IT WAS SHATTERED, SHE POINTED AT THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW, AT WHICH TIME I GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE TO INSPECT IF WE WERE HIT BY ANYTHING. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION YOU CAN SEE NO IMPACT TO THE VEHICLE OR THE WINDOW. I GOT BACK INTO THE VEHICLE AND PULLED FORWARD TO DROP OFF MY DAUGHTER AND AT THAT TIME REPORTED TO THE SCHOOLS STAFF WHAT HAD HAPPENED. I ASKED FOR THEM TO REVIEW THEIR VIDEO TAPE AND SEE IF SOMETHING HAD IN FACT HIT THE VEHICLE AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD AND CALL ME BACK. AT APPROX 0845 I CALLED THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AFTER LOOKING ONLINE TO SEE THAT IT IS A VERY WELL DOCUMENTED ISSUE THAT IS HAPPENING IN FORD F-150 FROM 2010-2018 MODELS. I SPOKE WITH DOUG GREEN, THE SERVICE MANAGER, AND HE SAID THERE ARE NO RECALLS OR SERVICE ISSUES CURRENTLY BUT THAT HE WAS AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND IT IS A CASE BY CASE BASIS THROUGH FORD. HE REQUESTED PICTURES OF THE SHATTERED GLASS AND MY VIN AND SAID HE WOULD CONTACT FORD WITH ALL THE INFORMATION AND SEE HOW WE MOVE FORWARD. POTOMAC HEIGHTS ELEMENTRY SCHOOL CONTACTED ME, MR STARK, KARL, WHO IS THE PRINCIPAL OF THE SCHOOL AND AFTER REVIEWING THE VIDEO HE OBSERVED NOTHING HITTING THE VEHICLE AND WITNESSED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AT THE TIME OF THE DAMAGE, HE ALSO REPORTED OBSERVING MYSELF GETTING OUT OF THE VEHICLE TO INSPECT FOR DAMAGES AS MENTIONED ABOVE, HE HAS AGREED TO PROVIDE ME WITH A COPY OF THE VIDEO AND SPEAK WITH FORD IF AT WHICH TIME THAT IS NEEDED AS A WITNESS OF NO ACCIDENT AND NOTHING HITTING VEHICLE AND THAT THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY WHEN INCIDENT HAPPENED HE WILL ALSO HAVE A BETTER IDEA OF THE APPROX TIME OF WHEN IT TOOK PLACE. MD
BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER FAIL. I HAVE HAD 2 BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER FAILS AND WILL BE TAKING THE VEHICLE IN FOR THE 3RD TIME TO REPLACE ANOTHER BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER. THIS HAS HAPPENED SINCE AUGUST 2018. 3 MASTER CYLINDERS WITHIN THE LAST 5 MONTHS.
I HAVE A 2013 F-150 ECOBOOST. I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 50 MPH LAST NIGHT, 12/3/18 WHEN IT SUDDENLY DOWNSHIFTED, CAUSING THE REAR BRAKES TO LOCK AND TIRES SQUEALED. I LURCHED FORWARD IN THE SEAT. THE SPEEDOMETER WENT DOWN AND THEN BACK UP TO 50. IT LASTED ALL BUT SECONDS. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME. I HAVE LEFT IT IN THE GARAGE SINCE IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AT THIS POINT UNTIL I CAN GET IT TO THE GARAGE. THANKFULLY THE ROAD WAS DRY OTHERWISE I WOULD HAVE SKIDDED OUT OF CONTROL. I HAVE ABOUT 110,000 MILES ON THE TRUCK. THIS HAS NOT HAPPENED BEFORE. THE PAST FEW WEEKS HOWEVER IT HAS OCCASIONALLY NOT SHIFTED OUT OF 1ST OR HAS STARTED IN 5TH GEAR. THIS HAS BEEN SPORADIC ONLY. OCCASIONALLY, WHEN I START OFF, IT WILL LURCH FORWARD. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN MAINTAINED AND HAS GENERALLY BEEN A VERY GOOD PERFORMING VEHICLE.
ACTIVE RECALL. TRANNY WILL SEARCH FOR GEAR, DISENGAGE THEN VIOLENTLY DOWNSHIFT. RPMS PEG AT 6,500+ VIOLENT JERKING. FORD SAYS SAFE TO DRIVE?? NO SOLUTION YET. THIS ENGINE WILL BLOW AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, TRANNY LIKELY DAMAGED SIGNIFICANTLY FROM DOWNSHIFT TO 1ST @ 75MPH. THIS IS SAFE? I DRIVE MOST HIGH SPEED MILEAGE. PROBLEM WORSE WHEN CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED. DEALER REFUSES TO TOUCH THE VEHICLE. SOMETIMES TRUCK TRANNY WILLNOT ENGAGE FROM PARK, NO SPEEDO OUTPUT BUT RPMS REGISTER. SELECTOR OUTPUT MAY READ 5 OR 6 GEAR FROM PARK. CALLED FORD....CSR INITIALLY PLAYED DUMB UNTIL I CITED RECALL #. WHEN MY ENGINE BLOWS OR TRANNY BEYOND REPAIR, WILL FORD FIX??
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED TO 30 MPH WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO EIDE FORD LINCOLN (800 E BISMARCK EXPY, BISMARCK, ND 58504, 701-222-3500) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE LEAD FRAME FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 82,190.
TRAVELING AT 70 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED INTO 1ST GEAR CAUSING THE REAR TIRES TO SKID AND THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE TO LOOSE TRACTION. THIS LASTED A FEW SECONDS BEFORE IT SHIFTED BACK INTO 6TH GEAR AND I WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL. SLOWED TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT AND VEHICLE SHIFTED INTO FIRST GEAR AT ABOUT 20 MPH THEN JERKED FORWARD WHEN COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE NEXT DAY WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN ON A CITY STREET THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL CAUSING ME TO STALL INTO APPROACHING TRAFFIC. CHECKING OTHER COMPLAINTS THIS APPEARS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH THE "LEAD FRAME MODULE" WITH THESE TRANSMISSIONS. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED THE MODULE BUT ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY WHICH WAS APPARENTLY DAMAGED IN THE ERRATIC SHIFTING. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE FOR 5 YEARS AND 4 MONTHS, WHICH IS 4 MONTHS OVER THE WARRANTY DATE. THE VEHICLE HAS ONLY 50,000 MILES ON IT WHICH IS 10,000 UNDER THE MILEAGE WARRANTY ON THE DRIVETRAIN. I HAD TO PAY A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT FOR THE TRANSMISSION REPAIRS. THIS ISSUE IS A DEFINITE SAFETY HAZARD WHICH COULD CAUSE LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE.
AN UNEXPECTED DOWNSHIFT FROM 5TH GEAR TO 1ST GEAR CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SLOW DOWN SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING WHEN DRIVING AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 45 AND 65 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY. THE REAR TIRES LOCK UP MOMENTARILY, CAUSING SKIDDING. THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS ERRATICALLY AND RANDOMLY THROUGH GEARS 5, 4, 3, 2, AND 1ST. THE TRUCK WILL GO DAYS WITHOUT ANOTHER INCIDENT, BUT THEN MULTIPLE TIMES IN ONE DAY. REPROGRAMMING OF THE COMPUTER MODULE AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM.
ON HIGHWAY, SPEED(60 MPH), GAUGES ON DASH BEGAN SWINGING WILDLY, TRANSMISSION BEGAN SHIFTING UP AND DOWN RAPIDLY AND THEN DOWN SHIFTED TO 1ST GEAR AT 60 MPH. THE REAR TIRES STARTED SCREAMING AND THREW ME SIDEWAYS INTO THE NEXT LANE AND ONTO SHOULDER OF ROAD. I HAD BEEN ON HIGHWAY FOR APPROX. 20 MINUTES BEFORE FAULT HAPPENED. I RESTARTED AND VEHICLE SEEMED TO OPERATE. I ATTEMPTED TO TRAVEL TO FORD DEALER WHEN AFTER ANOTHER 20 MINUTES FAULT RESUMED THROWING TRUCK OFF HIGHWAY AND LUCKILY ONTO EXIT ROAD. I AGAIN RESTARTED TRUCK AND PROCEEDED AT 20 MPH TO NEARBY DEALER. MY FORD DEALER FOUND INTERMITTENT LOSS OF OSS SIGNAL FROM THE LEAD FRAME. EXACT PROBLEM AND REPAIR AS IN RECALL #16N02 BUT MY TRUCK WAS JUST OUT OF RECALL RANGE. I BELIEVE THIS SAFETY RECALL SHOULD BE EXTENDED TO INCLUDE 2013 TRUCKS WITH THE SAME UNSAFE CONDITION. I HAD SOME DRIVE TRAIN WARRANTY LEFT SO REPAIR COST ME ONLY $100.00 BUT RECALL WOULD HAVE EXTENDED MY TRANSMISSION WARRANTY TO 150,000 MILES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 75 MPH, THE GEAR SHIFTED FROM SIXTH TO FIRST GEAR WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT MANAGED TO PULL THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CALLED CAPITAL FORD OF CHARLOTTE AT 844-242-1515 (LOCATED AT 5411 N TRYON ST, CHARLOTTE, NC 28213), BUT NO ONE ANSWERED THE PHONE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 167,119.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE'S WHEEL LUG NUTS AND THE LUG NUTS CHROME COVER FAILED. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS AT PARADISE FORD (1360 WEST KING STREET, COCOA, FL 32922, (888) 379 8533) FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE WHEEL LUG NUTS AND THE LUG NUTS CHROME COVER WERE WORN, UNABLE TO TORQUE, AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LUG NUTS AND THE LUG NUTS CHROME COVER FAILED DUE TO A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TIRES HAD BEEN ROTATED NINETEEN TIMES AT THE SAME DEALER AND THERE WAS NO MENTION OF REPLACING THE LUG NUTS AND THE LUG NUTS CHROME COVER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THE LUG NUTS AND LUG NUTS CHROME COVER FAILURE WAS NOT DUE TO A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. THE LUG NUTS AND THE LUG NUTS CHROME COVERS WERE REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,829.
UPON USING MY REMOTE START, AND THEREBY USING THE REAR DEFROSTER, THE DRIVER SIDE REAR WINDOW MADE A VERY LOUD POP SOUND WHILE I WAS STANDING NEAR MY PARKED CAR. UPON EXAMINATION, THE ENTIRE PASSENGER REAR WINDOW PANEL WAS SHATTERED AND SPIDER-WEBBED. IT APPEARS TO BE A RELATIVELY COMMON ISSUE WITH FORD TRUCKS AS OF LATE.
THE TRANSMISSION WILL DOWN SHIFT INTO A 1ST OR 2ND GEAR UNEXPECTEDLY. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES WHILE MOVING AT 40 TO 50 MPH. ALSO THE TRANSMISSION WILL UP SHIFT AND DOWNSHIFT RANDOMLY CAUSING THE VEHICLE DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE SPEEDOMETER WILL JUMP AROUND AND SOMETIMES COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. WHEN THE TRUCK IS TURNED OF THEN TURNED ON AGAIN THE GAUGES WILL WORK AGAIN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE OCCASIONALLY. EACH OCCURRENCE LASTED APPROXIMATELY 10 TO 25 SECONDS. THE CONTACT HAD TO USE ALL OF HIS BODY WEIGHT TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL. CAL CARS (10828 W SUNSET HWY, AIRWAY HEIGHTS, WA 99001, (509) 244-2277) TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE FOR TWO DAYS, BUT COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT SCHEDULED ANOTHER APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALER TO RE-CHECK THE BRAKES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,500.
TRANSMISSION SHIFTED TO 5TH GEAR WHILE PULLING INTO AN INTERSECTION VEHICLE LOST POWER IN THE INTERSECTION AIR BAG LIGHT AND WRENCH SYMBOL CAME ON THE VEHICLE LOST POWER LOST ALL DISPLAYS I WAS ALMOST HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE AND COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED .I UNDERSTAND THAT PREVIOUS YEARS WERE RECALLED BECAUSE OF THIS TRANSMISSION PROBLEM BUT NO RECALLS ON THE 2013 YET PLEASE ISSUE A RECALL THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS TRUCK. WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED THE TRANSMISSION ABRUPTLY DOWN SHIFTS TO FIRST GEAR. IN THE WINTER WITH SNOW/ICE ON THE ROAD THIS CAUSES THE REAR WHEELS TO LOCK-UP . I DO NOT WANT SOMEONE TO RUN INTO THE REAR OF MY VEHICLE OR LOOSE CONTROL. THE TRUCK WAS ASSEMBLED IN SEPT OF 2012. THE ENGINE IS A 3.7 LITER W/ 6 SPEED AUTO. 4 WHEEL DRIVE. IN JUNE OF 2018 (6/22/2018) I BROUGHT THIS TRUCK TO COPPER COUNTRY FORD, HOUGHTON MI. AND HAD THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT "REFLASH" UPDATE THE TCM ( TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE)
THIS IS THE 3RD OCCURRENCE OVER THE LAST MONTH. DRIVING ON HWY 90 AT 65 MILES PER HOUR THE TRUCK SUDDENLY DOWNSHIFTED INTO 1ST GEAR. THE REAR TIRES LOCKED UP AND SMOKED AS I WAS THROWN FORWARD AGAINST MY SEAT BELT. I NARROWLY KEPT CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. I SHIFTED THE TRUCK INTO NEUTRAL AND COASTED ONTO THE SHOULDER. I TURNED THE TRUCK OFF AND RESTARTED THE ENGINE. THE TRUCK OPERATED NORMALLY FOR ABOUT 50 MILES. THE SUDDEN VIOLENT DOWNSHIFT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND FRIGHTENING. FORD HAS RECALLED 2014 F150'S WITH THE SAME ISSUE. WHY HAVE THEY NOT RECALLED THE 2013'S? SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET KILLED BY THIS DEFECT. THIS IS A WIDELY REPORTED ISSUE WITH THE 2013 FORD F150. DO SOMETHING.
JUMPS FROM HIGH TO LOW GEAR WHILE TRUCK IS IN MOTION WHEN DRIVING AT LOW AND HIGH SPEEDS ON COUNTRY, CITY AND HIGHWAY ROADS. HAS ALSO OCCURRED WHEN STOPPED TO MAKE A TURN INTO TRAFFIC.
MY 2013 FORD F-150 XLT WITH 71,000 MILES IS HAVING TRANSMISSION ISSUES AND PROBLEMS WITH SHIFTING AND COMPLETELY LOSING POWER WHILE DRIVING. THIS ISSUE HAS STARTED INTERMITTANTLY ABOUT A MONTH AGO. WHILE I'M DRIVING, A GIANT WRENCH APPEARS ON THE DASHBOARD WHICH IS THEN FOLLOWED BY LOSS OF POWER AND ACCELERATION. THE VEHICLE IS THEN STUCK INTO A SINGLE GEAR AND THE SPEEDOMETER AND MILEAGE COMPUTER GO BLANK SO I NO LONGER KNOW HOW FAST I'M TRAVELLING. MY VEHICLE ISSUE SEEMS VERY SIMILAR TO THE 2011-2012 FORD F-150 TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTING RECALL FROM BELOW. 'FEDERAL SAFETY REGULATORS ARE INVESTIGATING WHETHER TO REOPEN AND EXPAND A PREVIOUS FORD RECALL BY MORE THAN A MILLION VEHICLES FOR UNEXPECTED DOWNSHIFTING. THE INITIAL 2016 RECALL AFFECTED MORE THAN 153,000 FORD F-150, FORD EXPEDITION, LINCOLN NAVIGATOR AND FORD MUSTANG VEHICLES FROM THE 2011-12 MODEL YEARS. A SECOND RECALL WOULD INCREASE THAT NUMBER TO AN ESTIMATED 1,375,577 VEHICLES AFFECTED, AND EXPAND INTO THE 2013 MODEL YEAR."
WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH MY TRUCK HAS DOWNSHIFTED INTO FIRST GEAR, LOCKING UP THE REAR TIRES. THIS HAS NOW HAPPENED ON THREE SEPARATE DAYS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE GEAR SHIFTED FROM HIGH TO LOW GEAR WITHOUT WARNING AND THE VEHICLE JERKED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO PLANET FORD HD TRUCK SHOP (888-501-9013, LOCATED AT 20332 HOLZWARTH RD, SPRING, TX 77388) TO BE DIAGNOSED, BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE CONTACT WAS REFERRED TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 25,000.
TRANSMISSION WOULD SHIFT ON ITS OWN ERRATICALLY. WHILE TRAVELLING IN 6TH GEAR AT 70 MPH IT WOULD DOWNSHIFT TO 1ST LOCKING TIRES BRIEFLY AND THEN BACK TO SPEED AFTER LETTING OFF THE PEDAL. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WOULD GO BLANK AND THE NEEDLES WOULD STOP WORKING WHILE STILL MOVING. IT CANT BE DUPLICATED AND DOES IT WITHOUT WARNING. IT HAD DONE IT AT VARIOUS SPEEDS ONCE IT WAS IN 5TH OR 6TH GEAR WITH OR WITHOUT THE CRUISE CONTROL ON. SEVERAL TIMES AND IT WOULD NOT EVEN TURN THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT ON. WOULD HAVE A WRENCH WITH OK BUTTON. WAS GETTING ON HIGHWAY DURING ONE OCCASION AND IT LOST POWER ALMOST CAUSING A MERGE COLLISION DUE TO I COULDN'T ACCELERATE. I LIMPED IT OFF THE SIDE OFF ROAD, SHUT IT DOWN, RESTARTED AND THEN WAS ABLE TO TAKE OFF AGAIN. I JUST HAD IT REPAIRED AND NOW SEEMS TO BE WORKING AS I HAVE TRIED MANY SITUATIONS NERVOUSLY AWAITING IT TO FAIL IF IT IS THE FIX. THE LEAD FRAME IN TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED. THIS WAS A RECALL ISSUE FOR THE 2011-2012 MODELS AND SHOULD BE THE SAME FOR 2013 OR ANY MODEL WITH THIS DESIGN. IT CAUSES VERY DANGEROUS SITUATIONS AND COULD BE FATAL IN CERTAIN TRAFFIC SITUATIONS. I PHYSICALLY WATCHED CARS BACK OFF ME WHILE TRAVELLING 60 MPH AND MY TIRES MUST HAVE SMOKE WITHOUT BRAKE LIGHTS WHEN IT SHIFTED DOWN AND CHIRPED THE TIRES UNEXPECTEDLY. NOT HAPPY SINCE I ONLY HAVE COUPLE MONTHS ON THESE NEW TIRES AS WELL. THE TRANSMISSION ALWAYS SEEMED TO HAVE A HARD SHIFT POINT BETWEEN 4,5 AND 6TH GEAR.
SUDDEN MOMENTARY DOWNSHIFT AT ABOUT 50 MPH WHILE CRUISING IN TOWN. THE VEHICLE REAR TIRES SKID MOMENTARILY. THE VEHICLE QUICKLY RECOVERED & DROVE NORMALLY. THIS IS THE SECOND OCCURRENCE IN TWO WEEKS.
WHILE ACCELERATING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THE THROTTLE SUDDENLY WENT DEAD AND AN ORANGE WRENCH APPEARED ON THE DASH. I WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER THE TRUCK TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SHUT IT OFF. THIS IS UNSAFE AND APPARENTLY IS A FAULTY ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY.
TRANSMISSION WOULD SLIP OUT OF GEAR PERIODICALLY. DASH WOULD ALSO RESET.
ENGINE HAS GRINDING NOISE FOR 2-3 SECONDS ON DAILY INITIAL STARTUP AND WHEN ENGINE IS COLD AFTER SITTING SEVERAL HOURS. DEALER PERFORMED ENGINE DIAGNOSTIC AND DIAGNOSED THE TIMING CHAIN ISSUE. FOR TIMING CHAIN ISSUES, THIS REQUIRES THE REPLACEMENT OF TIMING CHAIN AND PHASERS. DEALER EST COST TO FIX = $4000+. THIS HAS BEEN A REPORTED ISSUE FOR THIS ENGINE OVER THE LAST 3+ YEARS. FORD HAS REFUSED TO ADDRESS ON A RECALL, OR REFUND CUSTOMERS WHO HAVE ALREADY INCURRED THIS EXPENSE.
REAR GLASS SHATTERED WHILE VEHICLE WAS PARKED. NOTHING IMPACTED THE GLASS. GLASS IS STILL INTACT IN THE VEHICLE. HATE TO THINK IF A CHILD WAS IN A CARSEAT AND THE GLASS ALL FELL OUT ON TOP OF THEM. THIS FAILURE CAUSES THE FUEL SYSTEM TO FAIL WITHOUT WARNING AND CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO STOP OPERATING. A RECALL SHOULD BE DONE OR OFFER OF FREE REPAIR SHOULD BE AVAILABLE.

I AM STILL UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY, BUT HE SAID IF THEIR WERE NO EROOR CODES RELATED TO STEERING AND IF THE STEERING SHAFT WAS NOT BENT, THERE WAS NOTHING THEY WOULD DO FOR ME.I DECLINED TO PAY BECAUSE THE PROBLEM HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY AND CANNOT BE REPRODUCED ON DEMAND. THIS HAPPENS MOSTLY WHEN MAKING A TURN FROM A STOP STOP SIGN.

DATE 11/9/2018 VEHICLE: FORD F150 2013 DRIVER: EXPERIENCED MILES: 148,653 DATE OF INCIDENT: 11/1/2018 LOCATION: SOUTH BOUND ON I-275 IN SOUTHEAST, MI ROAD CONDITION: DRY DRIVER WAS ON THE HIGHWAY GOING 73 MPH IN THE LEFT LANE PASSING A SEMI WHEN THE VEHICLE SHIFTED FROM 6TH GEAR INSTANTLY INTO 1ST GEAR. CAUSING THE VEHICLES REAR END TO LOCK UP AND THROW THE VEHICLE SIDEWAYS. DRIVER WAS FACING THE SIDE OF THE TRACTOR TRAILER HEAD ON NOW WHILE THE REAR END WAS BOUNCING OFF OF THE RUMPLE STRIPS. THE MOTOR WAS WELL OVER 6800 RPMS CAUSING THE TAC TO BOUNCE BETWEEN 6500 AND 7000RPM. NOT ONLY DID THIS PUT A LOT OF STRESS ON THE MOTOR AND TURBO, THIS ALSO SHOCKED ALL OF THE DRIVELINE COMPONENTS. A SHIFT LIKE THIS IS COMMONLY REFERRED TO AS A "MONEY SHIFT" BECAUSE IT DESTROYS AN ENTIRE DRIVELINE AS WELL AS THE MOTOR. LUCKILY THE VEHICLES DRIVELINE WAS STILL INTACT AFTER THIS HARSH DOWNSHIFT AND THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO THROW THE TRUCK INTO MANUAL MOD SHIFT THE TRUCK BACK UP TO 5TH GEAR AND COUNTER STEER 2-3 TIMES TO CORRECT FROM THE TAIL END KICKING OUT. THE DRIVER BELIEVES THAT AN AVERAGE DRIVER WOULD HAVE DIED IN THIS SAME SITUATION. THE DRIVER FEELS LUCKY TO BE ALIVE AFTER EXPERIENCING THIS. AFTER THE DRIVER PULLED THE TRUCK INTO THE NEAREST FORD DEALER AND EXPLAINED WHAT HAPPENED THEY TOLD THE DRIVER THAT THEY HAVE NOT HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM BEFORE AND THAT THEY WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO LOOK AT THE VEHICLE FOR AT LEAST A WEEK. THE DRIVE THEN CALLED FORD TO REPORT THE ISSUE AND ON THREE SEPARATE CALLS ON 11/1/2018 FORD TOLD THE DRIVER THAT THEY WILL NOT COVER THE PROBLEM, BECAUSE IT'S NOT A RE-CALL. THE DRIVER WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT IF THE NHTSA CAN OPEN AN INVESTIGATING INTO THE 2013+ MODELS OF THE F150'S TRANSMISSION SUDDENLY SHIFTING FROM 6TH TO 1ST GEAR. PROBLEM REPEATED ITSELF ON DRIVE TO DEALERSHIP. DEALERSHIP DETERMINED IT WAS TRANSMISSION LEAD FRAME AND REPLACED IT. WAS INFORMED THAT MY TRUCK BUILD DATE WAS JUST OUTSIDE OF THE RECALLED DATE WINDOW SO I PAID THE $870 FOR THE REPAIR.
