On 2/18/2019 took the F-150 to Mathews Ford Marion Ohio service to address several issues. First, the tailgate had unexpectedly opened striking a trailer jack and damaging the tailgate. Tailgate opening while driving with cargo could result in cargo falling onto roadway. Damaged tailgate remains on the truck and is available for further inspection. Second, the owner heard rubbing/grinding noises when switching in and out of 4 wheel drive. The service technician could not replicate either issue. On 11/29/2023 took the F-150 to Leroy's Service Center in Delaware Ohio as the dashboard indicated several messages including required oil change (although odometer showed an oil change was not needed for another 3,000 miles compared to oil change sticker on windshield), a large yellow wrench adjacent to required oil change message, a small yellow wrench below required oil change message, and a yellow check engine light. Twice there was sensation of slipping (applying gas but no movement). Once parked in Leroy's lot the truck could not be started. Service technicians suspected LEAD frame failure. Service technician replaced the original LEAD frame with Ford Part numbers 2592734 and aL3z-7g276-d 1x (off replacement part box). I retained malfunctioning part for inspection if desired. Numbers off the malfunctioning part include aL3p-7g276-ak a9-21416-0998 c108p; Ford b556d; 3264 487 321 09 330743; Continental 3a8214160008 a2c53308751. Malfunctioning transmission while driving could cause unexpected vehicle slowing or stoppage. In summary, experienced unexpected tailgate opening, History of transmission issues (unexpected sounds when switching into or out of 4 wheel drive), and failure of the LEAD frame with slipping and inability to start vehicle after it was parked.
2016 Ford 150 engine needed replacing after 63,000 miles. Ford said it would cost 14,000 and take 2 months to get it. So I traded in, they only gave me 4000 for it because of that. still owed 7000. I bought it used in 2019 at another ford dealer had 9000 miles on it then. Mechanic said it could be low oil? Drove to work fine could not start to drive home. Towed to ford.
This issue is related to safety recall #17S40 involves over 177,000 2016 F-150 pickup trucks and Explorer SUV's with power seats. A defectively placed bolt in the sliding track that holds the front-row power seats in place may allow the seats to move more than they should during a crash, increasing the risk of injury to any front-seat passengers. My truck's recall was serviced by Riverbend Ford in 2018, but the seat has failed again. I have taken my truck to Hardy Family Ford. My complaint is Ford Motor Company should repair this safety recall free of charge to Hardy Family Ford and ME. I should not have to pay the expenses for this Ford manufactured defect. Can you help resolve? My name is [XXX] , and my contact number is [XXX] . INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Doors do not latch/stay latched when temperatures have dropped to freezing and below.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that after remotely starting the vehicle and waiting approximately 2-5 minutes, there was an abnormal chemical odor coming into the cabin of the vehicle. Shortly afterwards, the rear window fractured into several pieces onto the rear seats. The contact had not taken the vehicle to the dealer. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacture was made aware of the failure and confirmed there was no recall on the VIN. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.
When I was driving on the highway about 65 mph the truck abrubly downshift to 1st or 2nd gear causing the truck to dermaticly slow down. I am lucky there was nobody behind me because they could have rear ended me. The issue ended up being the transmission valve body harness which is apparently a common issue.
I have a 2016 F150 built in Kansas City that has the lead frame transmission issue noted in the attached PDF. I am being told that my truck does not qualify for the warranty coverage. Would like to understand why when this is a known is with these transmissions and my truck meets the requirements less than 10 years old and under 150,000 miles. VIN: [XXX] MILEAGE: 95,500 Please explain why my truck does not qualify? Thanks, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
On a morning in the 30s, remote started the truck and shortly after heard a pop sound. Walked out a few minutes later to find the back windshield had shattered sitting in my driveway.
The contact's wife owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 75-80 MPH, the transmission unexpectedly downshifted from 6th gear to 3rd gear. The power train warning light was illuminated. The contact shifted to neutral(N) and pulled to the side of the road. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle, and the vehicle operated as needed while driving. The contact stated that the failure recurred several times while driving. The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer several times; however, the failure could not be duplicated. The contact stated that while at a complete stop, the transmission failed to shift from third gear to first gear. The contact was able to continue driving. Additionally, the contact stated while attempting to drive from a complete stop, the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to respond. The contact depressed the accelerator pedal until the engine revved to 80 MPH, and the vehicle responded, but then failed to exceed 5 MPH. The contact pulled to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to another dealer, where the transmission control module and the crankshaft pressure sensor were replaced. The vehicle was repaired, and the contact was provided a two year warranty for the TCM. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 138,000.
The radio and backup camera screen flickers continuously.
The rear window adhesion has failed causing the rear sliding glass window to fall into passenger area.
Front left brake hose burst at 116000 miles. Appears to be a manufacturer defect. There is no evidence of any physical damage. This is happening way too ofter on these vehicle for it not to be a defect. I will be replacing the part this week and will save the old one in case you want to see it. My wife was actively driving the vehicle when it failed but was able to stop the vehicle without damaging anything.
Driver side door will not close or unlocked by fob or door lock button
Today 10/23/23 I remote started my f150 and the defrost on the rear window overheated causing the glass to explode and shatter. The wires burnt to the point of smoking out and catching on fire
The frame holding the panaramic moonroof in place has failed and cracked in two places leaving the panaramic moonroof loose and must be repaired immediately. The moonroof is apt to fly out or drop inside while driving on the interstate highway causing injury or death to the driver, passenger or others on the road. There have been reports noted online of the moonroof exploding while driving at high speeds due to the rattling because the moonroof is not secured properly due to the frame being cracked. This is a safety issue and must be recalled by Ford Motor Corporation immediately to make this repair for the consumers.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the vehicle had lost cam phaser functionality. There was an abnormal rattling sound detected. The check engine warning light flashed on the instrument panel several times. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was repaired under Customer Satisfaction Program: 21N03 at 92,000 miles. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.
My exhaust manifold leak occurred in June of 2023. Paid $1650 in costs. At the time. In had 86552 miles in the truck. Only three bolts were replaced. Now, with 123000 miles, I have a new exhaust manifold leak. It appears ford is aware of this problem—they created a new exhaust manifold. It also appears ford originally designed the engine to be much more durable as there are at least three more bolt holes for additional bolts—this would help dissipate the head that causes the heat that causes the warping manifold. As a result of a poor design, the truck could (and does) lose power will traveling on the roadway. This is a well-known problem with the ford 3.5 ecoboost.
Vehicle is experiencing delayed shifting and down-shifting at inappropriate times. Rear wheels will occassionally lock-up causingthe truck to slide sideways. Orange wrench light is on and the check engine light as well. It shows the following codes--P0706-00, P0707-00, P1702-00, AND P1921-00.
The lug nuts on all four wheels needed to be replaced because of swelling. This was determined by Evergreen Ford when I brought the truck in for oil change and tire rotation, etc. If this was not found it could have been a huge safety risk for the occupants in the truck and for others. A wheel very likely could have come off causing sever injury or death. If Evergreen Ford did not notice the problem I could heave been driving with faulty lug nuts. I did replace all the lug nuts at the Ford dealership. I am very surprised that Ford Motor Company did not issue a recall on this hazardous condition sooner, that knowing very well for several years, that this issue existed. I spent $82.32 + tax that Ford should have taken care of thru a recall. Most importantly I hope that no one gets injured or dies because of the faulty part which Ford Motor should have taken care of a long time ago.
I was driving at 75 mph on the freeway when suddenly I lost acceleration and the ability to accelerate. There was a message "Hill Descent Control". I did not have time to see if it said error or failure. Then "Check Manual". I was very lucky to get 3 lanes over to get off to the side of the road without being rear ended. I turned the vehicle off in order to regain my composure, then back on with no warning messages. I drove home slower.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 15 MPH, the tailgate opened independently and damaged the rear taillights. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V652000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages), and the VIN was included, but the repair had already been completed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 95,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving into a parking area, the vehicle lost all electrical and motive power. The contact was able to coast into the parking area, where the vehicle failed to restart. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the cam phasers. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related it to Customer Satisfaction Program 21N03. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 42,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, an abnormal rumbling sound was coming from the vehicle without warning. The vehicle was initially taken to a dealer where the transmission was serviced under warranty; however, the failure persisted. An appointment was made with the dealer to have the vehicle serviced. The contact rode along with an independent mechanic who stated that the transmission would shuddering due to a defect with the torque converter. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 60-65 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power. The contact veered to the side of the road. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and drive to the residence. The contact stated that the failure recurred while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the transmission molded leadframe had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact related the failure to an unknown recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 92,000.
I'm writing regarding an issue I had with my 2016 Ford F150 with the 2.7L Ecoboost engine and a recent article I read regarding a NHSTA investigation into the 2021-2022 model year 2.7L engines ( [XXX] ). In October of 2022, the engine in my truck cut off on the highway and would not restart. The Ford Dealership said it needed a completely new engine due to a valve problem. It is the same problem described in the article. The engine failed with only 45,000 miles on it but was already out of warranty. It took over 7 months for Ford to replace the engine and cost me thousands of dollars (Ford case # [XXX]). Ford did next to nothing in helping me...no rental assistance and no loaner. I am writing to request the investigation expand to cover the 2016 model year as there were numerous articles discussing the same problem in earlier model years. It is the same problem I encountered and now fear will happen again with the 2nd engine I had to purchase. I have saved all of the interactions I had with Ford as well as the repair invoices and would be happy to share or answer any questions you may have. 2016 FORD F150 WITH 55,000 MILES.STARTED DRIVING VEHICLE, ENGINE RPM DROPPED, ENGINE MISSING AND SHAKING. NO THROTTLE RESPONSE. VEHICLE JUST IDLED HORRIBLY. DASH HAD LARGE WRENCH SYMBOL AND AN "ACCUTRAC SERVICE NEEDED" WARNING. i TURNED OFF IGNITION, RESTARTED VEHICLE. SAME RESULTS. I DID THIS 4-5 MORE TIMES. LAST TIME VEHICLE IDLED OKAY AND ACCELERATED. DROVE THE VEHICLE 60 MILES HOME WITH NO THER ISSUES. CHECKED WITH AN OBD-II DIAGNOSTICS AND GAVE 2 CODES: P2111 THROTTLE CONTROL SYSTEM-STUCK OPEN AND P2112 THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL SYSTEM-STUCK CLOSED. NOW, NOW WARNING LIGHT OR ANY INDICATION OF PROBLEM ON DASH. NO WARNING LAMPS PRIOR TO PROBLEM. SAFETY WAS AT RISK BECAUSE WITHOUT WARNING, PULLING OUT INTO HEAVY TRAFFIC AND LOSING THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE WITH TRAFFIC COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. LOOKING THIS PROBLEM UP IN AN ONLINE FORD F150 FORUM INDICATES THIS IS A FAIRLY COMMON PROBLEM. WHY HAS THERE BEEN NO RECALL FOR THIS POTENTIALLY DEADLY ENGINE FAILURE CIRCUMSTANCE?
Dealer says multiple lug nuts are swollen and need replaced for safety’s sake.
The transmission Lead Frame has failed. This is the same problem we had with our 2013 F150 under campaign number 19N01. This is a common problem with the ford transmission that continues to occur. Ford should be made to support this issue since it can lead to severe accidents if the transmission was to lock up or shift to a lower gear abruptly while in motion.
plastic oil pan leaking. had to replace it with a factory improved since many problems have been reported with this truck. Replacement cost was $1,343.87. The electrical problems deals with the radio sometimes it does not work until the next day. Has been that day since day 1 with the new truck. Dealership said nothing was wrong!!!!
* What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? (Exhaust manifold. yes.) * How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? (Risk of Fire, reduced engine performance and reduce vehicle's ability to respond promptly to driver inputs, Squealing sound causing distracting driver, Carbon monoxide exposure causing others put at risk.) * Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? (This is first time I got issue but I see a lot of people reported that the exhaust manifold is the common issue for not just Ford F-150 but also any Ford eco-boost vehicles.) * Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? (Inspected by mechanics) * Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? (No engine light came out for this issue. Sound appear all of the sudden.) Warped exhaust manifold is common issue for Ford eco-boost model. Air is leaking through there causing the squealing sound while accelerate vehicle.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the sunroof was stuck and would not close as needed. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the guides and rails needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure was related to TSB: 21-2292. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 53,018.
Faulty exhaust manifold design has created a dangerous situation in my truck. Broken exhaust manifold is causing catalytic converter to get very hot and potentially dangerous. I feel this is a poor design in the gen 1 f150, ford should be responsible for taking care of this. They knew about the problem and I have since redesigned the manifold It cost upwards of 2000 dollars to have this replaced
Extreme corrosion to the transfer case casting around all of the fasteners. The corrosion is so bad that the case is starting to separate and leak fluid. There is a severe vibration in the drive train and it is believed to be the cause.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked overnight on the side of the road, the contact attempted to change a tire however, the lug nuts were swollen. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 59,500.
The right front brake hose split, leading to a complete loss in braking capability while the truck was moving. The brake went to the floor with no braking. I have looked online and found multiple cases of this brake hose splitting in exactly this place. Fortunately, I was able to safely come to a stop.
The trucks horn and hazard lights contiunsley goes off anytime it rains. We can be driving down the road and the truck will start going haywire, lights flashing horn won't shut off . There's been times when the truck itself wouldn't turn off even after removing the key . It's very bad wiring problem with this truck.
UNKNOWN Called a Ford dealership and they stated 2 other vehicles of the same year/make/model had similar issues. They couldn't find the issue. The touch screen radio got super hot to the point of not being able to touch it. Can't control the radio or climate from main panel. Can't lock or unlock truck manually or with key. Can't roll down windows from drivers side or adjust mirrors. Blind spot warning came on and at the same time all the tire pressure sensors lit up on the dash as well as the parking aid warning and airbag light. Worried about the risk of airbag deploying without cause, or fire from the radio getting so hot.
My rear view camera shows either a static rainbow screen while vehicle is in reverse. Or it shows a frozen faint image of what's behind my vehicle from the last time it was in reverse.
Both factory brake lines ruptured and had to be replaced. The first was passenger side front brake line. I thought it was an anomaly or possibly even vandalism since it happened in a high school parking lot. Then, the driver's side ruptured several months later. Both times the vehicle was in motion but thankfully both times were in the parking lot and not the interstate. I was able to stop the vehicle with the parking brake since the brake pedal lost pressure. Had it been on the interstate, I would likely not be writing this message.
I was driving at a slow speed on a dirt road directly into the sun when it was just rising. The conditions of the sky were slightly hazey. The entire windshield turned into a bright white light. (from right to left and top to bottom covering every square inch of the windshield) I could no longer see outside in front of me. I stopped. It was brighter than the sun 100 fold. No matter where I moved, the bright light of the windshield did not allow me to see. I had to roll down my window and place my head outside the vehicle to keep from driving off the road and into a different direction about a mile up the road. After going in a different direction everything was all right. I am concerned for other drivers that they may encounter this similar situation possibly causing an accident. My conclusions were: 1. The direct sunlight into the multiple star pits caused from highway/roadway gravel onto the windshield combined with windshield wiper fluid created the bright light that made the vehicle unsafe and undrivable. 2. The angle positioning of the windshield had something to do with the bright light... 3. The use of armoural on the dashboard as a preservative caused a chemical reaction onto the inside of the windshield (greasing the inside of the windshield contributing to the flash of bright light across the windshield). I will keep the windshield for 72 hours for your inspection. I plan on having the windshield replaced. This is a very dangerous situation. While driving, the brakes gave out when coming to a stop light. No warning system lights immediately illuminated. I had been running errands in town that morning with no issue, including stopping at church a couple minutes before with no issues. Thankfully, no one was in front of me at the stop light and I was able to avoid running the stop light by using the emergency brake pedal. I tired to release the e-brake once stopped while still in "Drive" and the regular breaks couldn't hold the truck in one spot so I put the vehicle in Neutral. When the light turned green, I release the brakes and then got a low brake fluid warning and was able to safely pull into a nearby parking lot and stop using the e-brake pedal. I walked around the vehicle to notice brake fluid in the right-front wheel well, inside the wheel rim and a pool of brake fluid forming on the ground by the tire. I had the vehicle towed to an independent service center who confirmed the brake line failure of the rubber/soft line at the linkage of the hard and rubber/soft lines. They replaced the part and replaced my brake fluid. Anecdotally, the service shop said they had the same repair on an F150 within a week prior. Luckily, I was on a low speed road with little traffic and knew to use the e-brake to safely slow and park the car. Also lucky
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving approximately 80 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently shifted into an unintended gear and the vehicle jerked. The contact then stated that the service warning light illuminated and then disabled other undisclosed functions on the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed and produced code: P0705 due to the transmission range sensor circuit malfunctioning. The contact was informed that the transmission range sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and confirmed that the VIN was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
Swollen lug nuts.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that on several occasions while the vehicle was shifted into reverse(R), the back-up camera image was distorted. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 70,500.
My 2016 Ford F-150 supercab is leaking transmission fluid. Noticed the gasket is leaking from the transfer case. Took it to the dealership and they said that it can not be repaired and needs to be replaced because it is coroded and it will take a couple of months to get the parts because the special bolts are on back order. The replacement will cost me $3900 and they said i should not be driving it. I can go without a vehicle for 2 months while waiting for parts . Meantime I have to drive it while it's leaking. Have no choice can't afford to rent a car I have heard this happening to others having the same problem where the bolts are coroded and leaking with the same Borg Warner transfer case that was put on by Ford factory
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed and attempting to slow down, the brake pedal was depressed however, the vehicle failed to slow as intended. After a visual inspection of the engine compartment, the contact observed abnormally low brake fluid. The brake fluid warning light was illuminated. After refilling the brake fluid reservoir, the vehicle seemed to return to normal functionality, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the brake master cylinder. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V150000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but was unable to assist. The failure mileage was 58,000. The VIN was unavailable.
I have replaced four turbos directly from board on the driver side only and now my transmission decided to lock up on me on the freeway at 75 mph and they're saying that it was a lead frame problem which Ford doesn't have any they're on backorder for months
The vehicle experienced intermittent starting issues for a few days, then left my son stranded in the middle of an intersection after it would not crank. Was able to finally get it started and get it home, but had to get it towed to the dealership the next day. I was able to get a code with a scanner that pointed to a fault in the transmission range sensor circuit. I did some research and discovered the problem was likely a defective molded lead frame inside the transmission. There have been many instances when this part has failed and there was a known problem with earlier model year vehicles that had an extension of the factory warranty. I paid to have the repair completed at a cost of $1430.31 but I believe this should have been a service bulletin item or a recall because of previously reported problems. I was without this vehicle for over 2 weeks.
FRONT PASSENGER SIDE BRAKE LINE FAILED WHEN DRIVING DOWN A RURAL HIGHWAY. THE LINE FAILED JUST BELOW THE INBOARD FITTING. OBVIOUSLY LOSING THE BRAKES PUT ME AND MY FAMILY IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION. LUCKILY WE WERE ABLE TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP IN A NEAR BY DOT YARD. THIS HAPPENED AT NIGHT SO WE SLEPT IN THE DOT YARD. WE WERE ABLE TO FIND A REPLACEMENT LINE IN A NEAR BY TOWN AND GET IT REPAIRED THE NEXT MORNING. I INSPECTED THE DRIVERS SIDE LINE AND FOUND A BULDGE IN THE SAME LOCATION. I HAVE REPLACED THAT LINE AS WELL. I HAVE SAVED THE LINES INCASE SOMEONE WOULD LIKE TO INSPECT THEM. I DID NOT NOTICE ANY SYMPTOMS PROIR TO THE FAILURE. THE ONLY WARNING LAMP OR MESSAGE I RECEIVED WAS AFTER I HAD LOST SOME BRAKE FLUID.
While driving the truck it suddenly and randomly loses power. Pushing on the gas pedal no longer makes the truck go. You have to coast to a safe spot, brake and turn the truck off, then restart it for it to start working again. The truck has a jolting motion to it when it loses power and until it is shut off. The truck has several indicator lights flashing like a wrench and something about hill assist not functioning. The truck sometimes has trouble starting after it loses power. Safety concerns are if this happens while trying to turn and there is on coming traffic you could get T-boned. If you are unable to pull over on the side of the road to restart the truck, then you risk being stopped in traffic and being hit from behind. This has happened on 3 occasions and happens randomly without warning. It has happened twice in one day. The truck has been to two shops who are unable to reproduce it and unable to find the problem. On-line forums lead me to think it is the electronic throttle body. A previous recall for this was 16B32. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by insurance company or police. The truck has three appointments with 2 different ford dealerships and one independent auto shop coming up for further inspection.
