Data synced from NHTSA on May 4, 2026
Rear-view backup camera inoperative. Started with broken/fuzzy images with lines then went to blue screen after several weeks. Completely inoperative now. Electrical connections at tailgate have been checked, camera replaced to no avail. Available for inspection if necessary. Safety issue as I can no longer see my front sidewalk when backing into or out of my driveway as children frequently ride scooters up and down the street’s sidewalks. The vehicle has not currently been inspected by anyone for this issue. No warning lamps or messages, just the inoperative display when the camera should be on. Everything else works as intended.
The rear bench seats in my Super Crew cab F150 do not lock when in the down/seated position. However, on page 154 of the owners manual it states the the following: Returning the Seat to the Seating Position WARNING Make sure that cargo or any objects are not trapped underneath the seat cushion before returning the seat cushion to its original position, and that the seat cushion locks into place. Failure to do so may prevent the seat from operating properly in the event of a crash, which could increase the risk of serious injury. I have tried to contact Ford many times about this conflicting info. Took my truck to a dealership and they didn't think the seats locked down but couldn't provide any guidance why the manual states otherwise. My main safety concern is if its safe to have someone seated in the back seats if the seats don't lock down. Especially, a child seat.
1st incident - Sudden loss of power when accelerating onto the highway, had to make emergency maneuver into brake down lane. No warning lamps until issue occurred, than every warning light came on! 2nd incident - Sudden loss of power when going to pass a car, once again had to make emergency maneuver and ended up cutting car off I was passing. No warning lamps until issue occurred, than every warning light came on!
Brake pedal is hard to push down and doesn't work. Pedal is stuck high then slams to the ground with no warning. On several occasions I have almost rear ended the vehicle in front of me. This is a safety issue for myself, my children, and other drivers. This has happened numerous times. Ford has a recall for this same reason on other years and models of the Ford F-150. They need to include the 2016 in the recall as well. There is an internal brake fluid leak. I have taken to local dealer and they tell me there is no problem. When the brakes fail there is no warning, no lights, no chimes, nothing.
3.5 liter EcoBoost engine had both exhaust manifolds warped and leaking with broken bolt. Two local Ford Dealers informed me that this is an issue plaguing many vehicles with the same engine having the same warped exhaust manifolds. The dealers also stated the only repair is to replace both exhaust manifolds with upgraded parts costing between $3000-$5000 (including labor). Having both exhaust manifolds leaking caused engine exhaust to leak into the engine compartment potentially causing danger during operation and maintenance of the vehicle. Repairs on my vehicle were completed on 6/27/2022 and the reason for delay in repairs was in part between parts ordering and dealership scheduling.
The rearmost exhaust manifold bolts have broken due to poor design. This will significantly increase the risk of exhaust fumes collecting in the engine and passenger compartments
I remote started my vehicle this morning and when I went out to get in my truck, I noticed smoke in the cab and a burning smell, as if an electrical issue. After investigating, I found my entire rear window was shattered. Apparently when using the remote start it engages the rear window defroster. It appears to have been the reason for the window shattering.?.? I always remote start my vehicle during the cold months and never experienced this before. No warning messages or anything. After researching, found this exact situation seems to be happening for my make and model with no recall in place yet.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would suddenly decrease gears causing the vehicle to abruptly reduce speeds. Also, the vehicle would not properly accelerate when pressing the accelerator pedal. During the failure, the check engine light had illuminated. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer was notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 110,000.
Front differential grinding when driving. Ford Replaced IWE check valve and problem came back about a month later. Windshield washer fluid pump failed.
I was driving my 2016 Ford F150 truck on an I-91 at usual highway speeds 65 mph in cruise control when I felt and heard a loud bang and the truck jerked and I applied the brakes and came to a stop. I was unable to move the vehicle off the highway. As it turned out the driveshaft was sheared off the transaxel transfer case. I called 911 and the state police and local fire department arrived. The towing company could not move the back wheels when they pulled the truck onto the towtruck platform as the back axel was locked up. This could have resulted in an injury to myself or to other cars around me. Fortunately I was on dry pavement and the vehicle did not swerve into other traffic. The truck was towed to the local Ford dealer. I was told that the transfer case had a crack and leaked oil causing it to seize up. However, I have had no oil leak in my driveway where I park the vehicle and have had no incidents in which the tranfer case has been hit by any large or hard object to cause any cracks in the case. No warning lights went on prior to this incident and the truck had been driven earlier in the week without incident or warning.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, he became aware of a rattling sound emanating from the vehicle. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not repaired or diagnosed by an independent mechanic or local dealer. The contact related the failure with the Customer Satisfaction Program: 21N03 (Cam Phaser Replacement); however, the vehicle was not included in the program. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to a dealer for a routine oil change, and he was informed of an oil leak. The dealer informed him that the leak was on the oil pan and that the oil pan needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact also stated the front driver's side failed to latch in the winter causing water to enter into the door handle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and repaired under an unknown recall however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where he was informed that they could not assist with the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered no assistance as the vehicle was not under warranty. The contact stated that the manufacturer informed him to call the NHTSA to have a recall issued. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.
The cam phasers fail intermittently causing shuttering/stalling randomly while driving. A large amount of people have had this same issue. Truck will intermittently rev up while in gear. If you're not on the brake, you will move forward/backward. Tons of check engine lights etc
Transmission has downshifted to first gear multiple times on its own while going highway speeds in 6th gear. Vehicle showed an orange wrench in the vehicle information system on dash.
The rear power door locks freeze and won't latch in cold temperatures 15-20 degrees F, unable to keep the doors closed, cannot operate the truck safely. The power lock assembly fail to respond in freezing cold weather.
My door latch wouldn't close in the cold. And then it opened on the highway one day without me doing anything
Rear window shattered while sitting in the driveway. Vehicle was on and running at the time warming up
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? ENGINE/OIL LEAK How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? IF THE OIL LEAKS OUT ENOUGH WHILE DRIVING THE MOTOR WILL CEASE UP, AND CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? YES Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? YES Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? NO, IT APPEARED ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO. I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST A BAD OIL CHANGE, BUT IT HAS ACCURED 2 MORE OIL CHANGES SINCE.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that after stopping and making a right turn, the vehicle lost power steering assist and locked up, while driving 5 MPH. The contact stopped, turned off, and then restarted the vehicle however, the power steering assist did not return. The vehicle was driven to the residence in manual steering mode. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the power steering unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the part not being available. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 99,500.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked and idling, when the contact returned to turn off the vehicle, there was an abnormal gasoline odor surrounding the vehicle. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact had not taken the vehicle to the local dealer. The contact had an independent mechanic diagnose the vehicle and was advised that a gasoline feeding tube under the driver’s side seat located on the frame was too short for its connection to the fuel pump and to the engine. The independent mechanic informed the contact that the connection was under pressure and was leaking gasoline and could detach from the connector and spray gasoline onto the engine. The contact called a local dealer and provided the dealer with the part number for the hose (FL34-9J278-AE). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.
It’s a known problem that the wiring for the defrosters causes the rear window to shatter. I was driving down the road and I heard a loud bang. It took me a few minutes to realize my rear window just exploded.
Truck engine is stalling out while driving and coming to a stop. The engine turns off, but all electrical power remains. This has occurred six times in a two month period with the first occurrence happening on February 1, 2022. An engine stalling out while the truck is on the road way is a dangerous situation whether stopped at a red light or while in motion, but especially so if it were to occur while driving at high speeds on a highway. There were no warning messages or indication lights prior or subsequent to the occurrences. The truck was brought to the local Ford dealership on February 28, 2022. The service department at the dealership was unable to diagnose the issue because the computer did not provide them with a diagnosis. The truck is being brought back to the dealership for a second evaluation on March 6, 2022.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at 50 MPH, the transmission suddenly downshifted into an unknown gear, and the vehicle jerked and shuddered. Additionally, the engine revved loudly. The dealer was made aware of the failure; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact to take the vehicle to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The failure mileage was approximately 46,000. 26 Apr 2022 update: Traded vehicle to dealership in York, PA on 25 Feb 2022 due to being told that the parts were unavailable from Ford. Later on, got a call from a different Ford dealership that they located a replacement part (AL3Z 7G276 D) Molded Lead Frame. I repurchased the vehicle from the dealership (at a higher price) and had the work performed by L&L Ford in East Berlin, PA. Ford agreed to a cost share of the repair, however my outlay was $348.74 plus the cost of purchasing the vehicle back from the dealership (~$1600). The Molded Lead Frame contains the Transmission Range Sensor component. At this point, this issue has cost me approx. $2000.00 to resolve when it should have been a safety recall.
The line that sprays the windshield washer fluid freezes up ALL THE TIME when it is cold out. This makes it almost impossible to see at times. I end up having to pull over on the side of the road and try to get it working again. The thing I found that works the best is pinching the hose in different areas and then pouring washer fluid on the line through the spaces in the cover. I was out for the last three hours and it never worked a single time! This is EXTREMELY dangerous to both myself and my passengers (which includes my wife and 10 year old son)...but also to every other driver or pedestrian out on the road. Every time I take it into a Ford dealership they claim not to know anything about the problem and they don't know how it can be fixed. I know how it can be fixed. Run the hose on the INSIDE of the hood like every other vehicle so that the engine heat can keep it warm. Instead...Ford runs it in this plastic cavity in between the hood and the windshield. And if it's not bad enough that it's exposed to the cold....they then put vent slits in the housing even further exposing it to the elements. The fact that washer fluid, that is designed not freeze in the first place, is somehow freezing in the lines so neither nozzle works is crazy to me. I have never had this happen on a vehicle before, but is a CONSTANT problem with my Platinum F-150.
Revision of 11448462 filed on 1/23/22 My wife and I were driving to our house in our 2016 Ford F150 and were approaching the final turn into our subdivision. When approaching our road to turn, I turned my directional signals on to show that I was turning left and was slowing down. Also, there was a line of cars behind me. I immediately saw that my turn signals were not working, and were not aware that I was turning left, and continued going straight to ensure that the cars behind me did not ram me in the rear. As soon as I could, I pulled the truck off the right side of the road into a small drainage ditch. No damage to the truck at that time. Electrical components failed; My safety and my wife's safety were put at risk. This problem with the turn signals has been noted by Woody Anderson Ford, Huntsville Al. My truck, after we arrived home, sat in our driveway for approximately a week while I went through my Ford User Manual and several repair manuals looking for the problem. I did not find any reference to that specific problem. However, during that week, while sitting in the driveway, the truck continued to develop more problems, specifically the engine developed problems that would not allow it to run, and the transmission locked- preventing the wheels to roll. The truck is now at Woody Anderson Ford, Huntsville, Ala. .As of this last Friday, at $ 100 an hour for diagagonise. They have told me that the truck is probably unfixable. These two faults, If they had happed to the truck while we had been driving, would probably have killed all occupants of the truck, and anyone that we might have hit would be in the same condition. Please look at your records and the number of the same year and equipped trucks are on the road and are a safety risk.
We bought our 2016 F150 in 2019. We are not able to latch the driver's door so it is not closed and unable to be driven. There was a recall for this issue but we don't show anything via our VIN number. If it was fixed in a recall, it doesn't work now. What can we do in order to have it fixed?
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while the vehicle was at the dealer for an unknown repair, the dealer informed the contact that the lug nuts were corroded on all four wheels. The lug nuts were all replaced. The vehicle was repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to file a complaint with NHTSA. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000. The VIN was unavailable.
Doors will not latch when trying to close them.
Had issue with sudden downshifting ,not changing gears ,hard shift as well. Took the vehicle to AAMCO and was told the transmission needed to be rebuilt. So i did just, at 99,000 miles. Not sure if this helps your findings.
It is now winter and frequently experience temperatures below 10 degrees F. The rear driver side door power lock will not work (will not lock / unlock) when activated by key fob or by pressing button on door. All other doors will lock / unlock as normal. When the plunger is pushed or pulled on the affected door, it will then lock / unlock.
My wife and I were traveling to our home in the truck. When preparing to turn left off the main road, I noticed that the turn signals were not working, requiring me to go to the right off the side of the road, as there was heavy traffic behind us. While on the side of the road, I tried the windshield wipers, window sprayer, and turn signals. None were working. I turned the engine off and then restarted the truck, and limped home. After getting home, the truck was parked while looking for a mechanic to fix whatever was wrong with it. It was recommended to me that the "Wiper Multi-switch" be replaced. This did not eliminate the problem. I then arranged for the Ford Dealer, Woody Anderson Ford, to take the truck in and fix it. The Dealer says the truck has had a major electrical failure and doubts that can be fixed.
Exhaust manifold on the 3.5 liter eco boost is warped and causing power loss, other engine and performance issues/ concerns.
I was driving on the interstate and the vehicle displayed a Blind Spot failure in the middle of the instrument cluster. At that same moment the truck abruptly down shifted almost causing me to loose control and the car behind me to take evasive action off the shoulder of the road. The truck engine was still running but pressing on the accelerator had no response. I had to attempt to navigate two lanes to my left through traffic with no power and in a coast mode. If I were pulling my trailer I would probably not be alive to write this. I took truck to Dave Knapp Ford dealer (where I bough it new). They indicate it is module in the transmission with known issues in various years. They pulled computer info and confirmed what I have written here with exact mph etc. They indicate that this is not a recall. I believe all F150 drivers should be aware of this and are at risk of death or injury.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the door latch failed to lock securely. While driving at undisclosed speeds, the contact's son almost fell out of the vehicle, but the contact was able to grab him by the coat. The door ajar message was displayed. Additionally, the TPMS warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V652000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages). However, the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to another local dealer for assistance. The vehicle was taken to another dealer, Ourisman Ford of Alexandria Service (6129 Richmond Hwy, Alexandria, VA 22303); but was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
My truck continues to stall at stop signs, traffic lights and when just idling. This is unacceptable and a hazard to me and other traffic.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was diagnosed with a clock spring failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
While driving, I applied the brakes and the pedal went to the floor. I received a low brake fluid warning. I checked and there was almost no fluid in the master cylinder. It was determined that the master cylinder rear seal had failed. The brake fluid had leaked into the brake booster, which failed. I was driving on the interstate when the brakes failed suddenly and without warning. The vehicle is now at the Ford dealer for repair and they have confirmed the failure of the seal in the master cylinder. I am aware of a prior recall on this issue #20S31 - but the dealer informs me that my VIN # is not part of the recalled vehicle group. However, my sudden failure is exactly what the subject of the prior recall covered. I have the exact model and engine as was involved in the recall.
transmission is downshifting early and hard. it is clunking and causing erratic speeds and shifting patterns. the hard shifting and downshifting is not normal and dangerous.
The passenger door won’t latch when I open it. Then won’t latch to close. And my rear camera traffic warning randomly goes off without nothing being in the way annoying to say the least…….please help
My local ford dealer found during a service request that the Driver’s side exhaust manifold has warped and broken studs for the manifold, causing an exhaust leak that poses a potential safety issue from gases leaking into the passenger cabin and creating a considerable amount of noise, as well as some performance loss.
Wheel lug nuts outer layer has deformed making it impossible to tighten lug nuts correctly. Dealer stated this is a common occurrence, but usually happens after 100,000 miles. My vehicle is at 60,996 miles. Dealer stated only option is to change lug nuts at a cost of 129.00 dollars or tires could not be rotated until new lug nuts were purchased. What happens if you have a flat tire on the side of the road? With distorted lug nuts, a person could not get proper torque and wheel could separate from vehicle while driving.
The engine has suddenly started to shake badly and shut off at stops. I’ve had it looked at by ford and they found no issues. I’ve asked around and this is very common. Please help
The emission system, faulty exhaust manifold warped with broken exhaust studs breaking

On 12/20/21, while driving home on State Route 7 from work, the low brake fluid warning appeared. I tried the brakes and as I tried to slow down, the pedal went all the way down. I almost went off the road but after pumping it was able to slow a bit. I was merging onto Interstate 8 West and slowly drove to figure out where to get off. The best off ramp was Imperial since it was uphill and managed to pull over after getting off and stopping the truck. Replaced the lost liquid and my brother in law followed me to his home. Same issue with brakes and slowly took it to his home. Took the vehicle to Ford dealer assuming that a recall on F150 due to master cylinder failure and leaking fluid onto the booster, which occurred to my vehicle that it would be covered in good faith by Ford. My VIN was not listed although the issue was similar to the recall. After calling the NHTSA and Ford, there was nothing else that I could do at that time but pay the service. My complaint is that I almost had an accident due to an issue that Ford had recalled various trucks and did not include my truck. The least that Ford can do is in good faith and that it was not an accident due to this failure, that repayment is made on the cost to repair master cylinder and booster.
PERIODOCALLY, UNABLE TO SECURELY LATCH PASSENGER DOOR.
While driving at 50 mph, automatic transmission put itself in 1st gear. Tires squealed, and engine revved. luckily, no other traffic in area. Transmission self corrected after a few seconds. The weather was dry. Temperature in the low 40's. Other similar occurrences were when starting from a stop sign or red light, transmission stayed in 1st gear. On all above occasions, the dashboard display simply said to see owners manual. My impression is the transmission is believing I am in manual mode for a few seconds.
12/13/2016 Rear window shattered without cause.
Windshield washer fluid line (under hood) constantly freezes up- causing sprayers not to spray which is EXTREMELY dangerous from a visibility standpoint. Windows become quickly caked with slush and dirt from wet/ snow-filled roads. This happens multiple times, regardless of the type of windshield washer fluid that is used. Husband constantly needs to stop/ get out to correct the issue. Husband has taken our vehicle into one auto repair shop- they were unable to correct the issue. Spoke w/ another this weekend and the auto repair tech said it is a known issue and he actually has the same issue w/ his truck. He wasn't aware of a fix. He stated that he actually carries around extra water bottles so he can spray his windshield at stop signs when the windshield becomes hard to see through. My husband is not a mechanic-- but he believes the issue may be the placement of the windshield washer fluid line. Please google this issue-- there are multiple complaints online.
Recently purchased a 2016 Ford F150 and am having the same issues as reported by multiple other customers. Once the weather approaches freezing temperatures, the door latch fails. Very simple, got into the truck and when closing the door, it will not latch and continued to open. I've found that pushing either the unlock or lock from inside the truck remedies this on the few occasions I've had it happen. My carfax indicates this has been reported to a dealership on multiple occasions w/o remedy. I've reviewed prior complaints and this has been reported several times in addition to occurring when in operation. I've yet to experience it happening when operating at this time. I've worked in the personal auto insurance industry for nearly 15 years and am quite certain this is an unacceptable manufacturer safety risk. Please recall and do the right thing here Ford. Thanks!
