NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2020 Ford F-150. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
Data synced from NHTSA on May 4, 2026
Windshield wipers not working properly. Wipers barely move, then seize up. No warning. Requires manual help/ movement by hand to get them to return to the bottom of windscreen. Was pouring rain and could not see out of windshield on the highway. I have not taken the vehicle to service yet - but this appears to be a widespread complaint when researching the issue online.
Ford doesn’t want the fix the problem because my vin number is not on the list. Yet, there have been recalls for 2020 Ford F-150s related to the emissions system, including a recall for the 2.7L EcoBoost engine's catalytic converters, which requires a Powertrain Control Module (PCM) reprogramming, and another related to a loose battery cable that could cause stalling, fire, and other malfunctions. Catalytic converter recall (24E12) Who is affected: 2018–2020 F-150 models with the 2.7L EcoBoost engine. : The recall addresses inaccuracies in the catalytic converters' effectiveness. The primary fix is reprogramming the PCM to more accurately detect issues, which might trigger a check engine light if the converter is faulty.
10rd80 Transmission CDF drum failure. A known design defect on 2020 F150 that Ford should issue a recall on. Ford finally fixed the design issue in August 2022. My truck is out of warranty so I will be out over $6000 that I do not have to fix. Extreme financial problem as I do not have the money to fix and this is my only vehicle
Transmission will not shift into gear. No recall on this and dealers option is for service and repair. Transmission was serviced and problem shifting still continues. I have received alerts from Ford Pass App indicating Powertrain Malfunction/ Reduced Power — What Is Happening? The transmission control module has detected a concern when trying to shift to 7th gear. A failsafe logic disables 7th gear for the remainder of this key cycle. What Should I Do? Have your vehicle checked by an authorized dealer as soon as possible. This loss of power is a huge safety issue as when I accelerate into traffic the lag in shifting causes the truck to not get up to speed and you’re basically a sitting duck. Transmission was serviced and this did not resolve the issues. Replacement is now scheduled and will cost a minimum of $9000.00. This is a KNOWN issue with the 10-speed transmissions and should be recalled for repair &/or replacement by FORD. This truck has only 116,000 miles!!
Transmission issues. Random hard shifting. Random over revving due to improper shifting. Multiple components are being replaced. They are all heavily reported as issues in the transmission. The dealer refuses any remedy. No warnings show prior to the issue
I am submitting this complaint regarding a serious transmission failure on my 2020 Ford F-150. At approximately 68,000 miles, the vehicle began exhibiting dangerous and unpredictable driving behavior, including hard jerking, sudden hesitation, and unexpected deceleration and acceleration while driving. The vehicle would jerk aggressively during gear changes and decelerate without warning, particularly at lower speeds and during normal traffic flow. This behavior significantly compromised my ability to maintain consistent speed, safely merge, or respond to traffic conditions. On multiple occasions, the sudden loss of power and hesitation created a safety hazard, especially when driving in slower or congested traffic, as surrounding vehicles were not anticipating abrupt deceleration. Due to the severity and persistence of these issues, the transmission ultimately required complete replacement. A brand new transmission was installed to correct the problem at only 5 years old and barely over the Ford mileage warranty expiration criteria. This failure occurred well before what I would consider normal or expected transmission life for a modern full-size pickup truck and presented a clear safety risk to myself, my passengers, and other motorists. Sudden jerking and loss of power at speed creates a high likelihood of rear-end collisions or loss of vehicle control. I believe this issue reflects a potential defect in the transmission system and should be investigated to prevent similar safety risks for other drivers.
I had just replaced the transmission (R1080; 6 cyl 3.5L Turbo) on September 3, 2025 due to P0734-00 (Gear 4 incorrect Ratio and P07F7-00 (Gear 10 incorrect Ratio). The transmission matter can be referenced on NHTSA ID # XXX. On September 30, 2025, while driving down the parking deck ramp (at 3-5mph) my check engine light came on with code P0022 (camshaft timing); resulting in replacement of the camshafts. The camshaft had a HOLE in it (photo supplied). The camshaft issue is another issue many Ford F150 truck owners are experiencing. Again, Ford has continued to give "band-aid" fixes with TSB's and no REAL fix to a continuing issue with these trucks. On December 3, 2022, this used truck was purchased from a Ford Dealership in Raleigh, NC (77,100 miles) and was Ford Gold/Blue Certified per my purchase information. The Gold/Blue paperwork even included that the "Customer Satisfaction Repair" (not a true recall mandated by NHTSA) had been performed by a TSB (along with the unintentional tailgate opening also a Customer Satisfaction Repair). There are no recalls issued on this vehicle. Ford has offered NO assistance towards repairs. As evidenced by the number of complaints filed on the NHTSA website for this particular engine, at what point will the NHTSA open an investigation and mandate that FORD issue a RECALL for the KNOWN problems with the R1080 3.5L and the camshaft/phasers. Like a lot of f-150 owners, my 10speed transmission stopped working not allowing me to accelerate or shift into reverse. I was stuck in the intersection luckily I didn’t get into an accident. The truck was stuck in 7th gear! This is dangerous and happens far too commonly, please investigate, this is dangerous and expensive for the average consumer. Please help.
Like most people with the same model and year. My transmission stopped shifting, and stalled. I was fortunate since I was sitting in the intersection. You need to look into the 10speed transmission they are faulty and need to be investigated!
I was driving eastbound on city streets at 30 mph with my three young children when the vehicle exhibited abnormal shifting behavior, searching for a gear. Despite being in 9th gear, traveling the speed limit, and lightly pressing the pedal, the vehicle experienced a rough downshift and lost power while going up a small incline over a freeway overpass. I turned on my hazards and attempted to move over to avoid an accident, which I successfully did. The vehicle regained power after restarting with rough shifts in the lower gears. I put the vehicle in manual mode to better control the shifting, though it remained incredibly rough. The kids were shaken and refuse to drive in the vehicle. Since then, I’ve only driven it to have it serviced at our local Ford dealer. They stated everything was fine after the transmission fluid exchange and battery replacement. However, the vehicle still exhibited rough shifting behavior on the short drive home. A friend pulled codes from the TCM/ECU and found P0734-00, P07F7-00, and P2535-00. He assisted, backed up the ECU/TCM, re-flashed the onboard ECU/TCM with the latest mappings, and reset the adaptive learning. He then drove the vehicle with diagnostics equipment connected and recorded the driving data, finding that the transmission was losing pressure and the shift behavior was slightly better but still rough shifts between 2-4 and 7-8 gear. Once the drive/test was completed, codes P0761 and P2702 appeared on the reader. He explained that the issues pointed to a CDF drum defect, which has several TSB’s published. He advised me to stop driving it and reach out to the dealer or local qualified shop. I was quoted between $7,677-$8,978 to replace trans with reman unit. Vehicle has been maintained with all records on file and is in nearly perfect condition with exception of the transmission due to the CDF defect. I would love to see action taken to prevent injury/death as I could see that occurring at some point.
Transmission shifts hard looses power. I reported it to ford before my warrenty ran out. They said it was fine and just needed an update. It did not fix it took it and got second opinion and the transmission was bad and needed to be replaced. I had to pay out of pocket because they did not take care of the issue while it was under warrenty. Now im out 7000 because of a faulty transmission and Fords lack of addressing the issue
10 speed transmission, started slipping. And then slamming into gear while it would down shift. We have had 4 rebuilt transmissions put in with Ford. And now the truck just went into the shop again for the same issues. This last time before going into the dealership, felt like the transmission was just going to drop out. It was hard.Do not feel safe in this truck any more. it is not reliable. No warning lights at all.
The Ford 10 speed transmission has continued to give me issues. Delayed shifting, harsh engagements, and overheating are the symptoms. I have been to the dealer several times for the issue. They programmed the transmission, reset values, then replaced the valve body. After valve body replacement, the service manager at the dealership told me that it shifts fairly well compared to other f150s and there’s nothing more they can do. There have been several instances where I have to pull over in traffic due to overheating. The lack of predictability in the shift also makes for unsafe situations.
Cam Phaser failure causing the engine to knock and eventually lose power. Cost $4,900 out of my pocket to fix with 64,000 miles on the truck. Reading online forums, this is one of the MOST common issues with 2018-2022 3.5 and 5.0 f150s. The vehicle has a history prior to my ownership of this same issue. Check engine light is triggered when you hear the engine rattle and throws codes for Camshaft position error. Ford dealer replaced every sensor and harness on the truck before decided the cam phasers were bad, adding another $4,900 to my $2,600 bill. This was during my ownership of the truck between 63,000 and 65,000. First two thousand miles of ownership. Vehicle would stall at low rpm’s after highway use, stalling the vehicle while rolling into an intersection.
While overtaking another vehicle on a 2-lane highway, the accelerator pedal broke and would not allow me to accelerate. Shortly after this, the vehicle I overtook had caught up, and I was forced to move back behind them in heavy traffic as there was also oncoming traffic. With no accelerator, I had to pull off to the side of the highway. Losing acceleration is a serious hazard, impacting the ability to safely control the vehicle and react to situations. This was a sudden failure with no warnings. Nobody has seen the vehicle yet. I found a way to manipulate the acceleration system/assembly in a way that would allow me to get away from the busy highways. This involved me holding part of the assembly with one hand while pushing on the pedal with the other hand. I figured it was better to find a safer place to park the vehicle. Upon further inspection, it appears that a plastic part broke somewhere. I do not think that plastic should be used in heavy use and safety critical systems. Everything is available for inspection as of now if needed.
Component/System Failure: The 10-speed automatic transmission failed prematurely at only 75,000 miles. The transmission is still in the vehicle and available for inspection upon request. The symptoms include harsh shifting between gears, particularly into lower gears, followed by significant lag and then abrupt jumping/engagement. This is consistent with numerous other complaints filed regarding the 10-speed transmission in this model year. Safety Risk: The unpredictable transmission behavior created dangerous driving conditions. The harsh shifting and lag followed by sudden acceleration made it impossible to safely merge into traffic, navigate intersections, or maintain consistent speed on highways. The erratic gear engagement put myself, my passengers, and other drivers at risk as the vehicle's response became completely unreliable. The truck is currently unsafe to drive. Professional Confirmation: Yes, the problem has been confirmed by Aamco Transmission on Sept 17, 2025. They diagnosed it as transmission failure requiring complete replacement. Manufacturer/Other Inspection: No inspection by Ford has occurred to date. Warning Indicators: No warning lights, check engine lights, or dashboard messages appeared prior to or during the failure. The only symptoms were the physical driving symptoms described above—harsh shifting, significant lag, and abrupt gear engagement—which began approximately gradually over the past month and progressively worsened until the vehicle became unsafe to operate.
The transmission has Harsh, Jerky, clunking shifts. It also has delayed engagement and complete power loss. There is also problems with downshifting from 7th gear to first gear when coming to a complete stop. Vehicle seams to be in neutral then finally shifts to 1st gear before vehicle finally moves.
* What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Transmission/powertrain; currently available for inspection at time of submission * How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? While stopped at stop sign/stop light, the vehicle would have long hesitation before advancing forward. I would initiate hazard lights to prevent driver behind me from crashing into the back of my vehicle. The vehicle would shift harshly and untimely as well as randomly downshift from 10th gear to 1st gear (x2 on 24Aug2025). I would have to pull vehicle off the road and when attempting to resume driving the vehicle would not move. The RPM’s would rev, however the vehicle would not move. I would turn off the vehicle and then restart it and the vehicle would move forward, resuming with harsh shifting. Loss of power, delayed and harsh shifting pose a safety hazard while the vehicle is in operation. * Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes; by independent service center * Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No * Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? First check engine light illuminated on August 16, 2025. (Please note the check engine light disappears once the vehicle is turned off and then restarted). I took the vehicle to AutoZone on 25Aug2025. The tech placed the code reader on the vehicle. 2 codes, P0734-00 and P07F7-00, ‘gear 4 incorrect ratio’ and ‘gear 10 incorrect ratio’ respectively were displayed. Vehicle taken to independent service center on 25Aug2025 who also placed code reader on vehicle. I am not in possession of that information at time of writing. Monthly ‘my vehicle report’ has been clear with no issues whatsoever noted until report dated 25Aug2025 (attached)
This model year truck has an oil consumption problem. I had the truck repaired under the Ford bulletin, but I’ll still need an oil consumption test after 1000 miles and continued frequent oil changes.
Failed CDF drum and collapsed shift solenoid retainers. Causing erratic shifting, hard shifting, gear skipping, bouncing back and forth between gears, delayed gear engagement, and shuttering when shifting.
transmission has on several occasions lurched when starting the vehicle. during driving, the transmission shifts hard and sometimes jumps in and out of gear as if it cant decide which gear to engage. this often happens at low speeds after first start, and between 5th and 6th gear.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended and jolted. The contact stated that the failure occurred while driving between the second and the third gears. Additionally, the contact noticed that the vehicle made unusual sounds while shifting into gears. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with transmission failure. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the safety failure. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
I brought my 2020 F-150 XLT to Cook Ford Texas City for a recall (24E12 PM reprogramming) and a steering issue that have happened while driving and making me loose control, almost hitting the vehicle front! After spending over $3,400 to get the whole steering system changed, I picked up my truck thinking everything was good. Within one day of the recall being done, my check engine light came on with an emissions fault. When I asked about it, I was told this was "normal" after the recall because now the PCM is able to read codes. But it feels shady that a brand-new problem shows up immediately after a recall reprogramming. Now, I'm being told I might have to pay for even more expensive repairs like a catalytic converter (5k for both) - right after just spending thousands. It's frustrating, stressful, and feels like a never-ending cycle. After looking online, I found many other Ford owners sharing the same experience with this recall on forums like Reddit. That makes me believe this is not an isolated case.
The first transmission I had in my truck i had. Harsh shifting, Slipping gears, Delayed engagement, Transmission overheating, Loss of power and transmission stuck in higher gear while stopped. They replaced the transmission (at my cost ) now i have over heating issues. There should be a mandatory recall on this transmission, give me my money back and fix the issues for free.
Transmission has been skipping gears, hard shifting, getting stuck in gears. While traveling in the truck going up an on ramp and then trying to merge into traffic, the transmission got stuck in 7th gear. Pressing the accelerator would not move the vehicle and I was left without the ability to move out of traffic. Vehicles were having to put on their brakes, swerve and go around me. Prior to this time I was having some slight shifting irregularities between gears 2-3 and 7-8. I notified the dealership of issues and they said I would have to drop the vehicle off and it would take 7-10 days before they could even look at it. The vehicle was purchased in December 2020 and currently has just under 75,000 miles. I was told that it was out of warranty. For the first 4 years of ownership the vehicle has always been serviced at a Ford dealership. I was never notified of any issues with the transmission. However they did notify me that a windshield wiper arm was recalled and that was changed. Early in the ownership of the truck, I experienced the vehicle moving backwards when on an incline and taking my foot off of the brake, before accelerating. Also, experienced clanking and jarring when accelerating and then having to take foot off of the accelerator. In 2023, when having the vehicle serviced for oil change, I asked the service technician about these issues and was told that there was nothing wrong and that it was just typical for that type of transmission.
The transmission failed. While driving, it shifts extremely hard and will suddenly downshift without warning. Autonation Ford of North Canton, Ohio, inspected the vehicle on August 13, 2025, and reported that the CDF drum clutches were likely worn. The truck is available for inspection upon request. The sudden downshifts cause the truck to jerk violently and lose speed abruptly. On multiple occasions, this has nearly caused me to lose control and creates a high risk of being rear-ended by other drivers who are not expecting the sudden slowdown. Yes. Autonation Ford of North Canton, Ohio, confirmed the issue on August 13, 2025. Yes. Autonation Ford of North Canton inspected the transmission and stated it was likely due to worn CDF drum clutches. There were no warning lamps or messages. The symptoms began before August 2025 when the transmission started slipping, shifting hard, and then downshifting unexpectedly. The issue occurred just one month after the warranty expired. The dealer quoted me approximately $7,000 to repair it. I have read that Ford has replaced the old pressed bushings in this part with welded ones to prevent this failure, which suggests this may be a known defect in the original design.
December of 2020, I purchased 3 - 2020 Ford F150's with 5.0L engines and 10speed 10r80 transmissions for 2 of my companies as PERSONAL DRIVERS (non-commercial use). *Vehicle 1 - at 82,000 miles - was experiencing missed shifts, and harsh engagement. Within a couple of weeks of this happening, unfortunately the vehicle was totaled in an accident unrelated to shifting. *Vehicle 2 - began to experience the same problems, this vehicle would miss a shift and fall completely "out of gear" leaving no power or throttle response (roughly 78,000 miles) and had been service according to Ford specification and mileage with Motorcraft factory filter, gasket, and Ford ULV fluid. Unfortunately this was the only vehicle I purchased an extended warranty for due to long highway trips out of town where a breakdown would be difficult to deal with out of town. Determined as "transmission Failure" and replaced at Billy Howell Ford in Cumming Ga. (via extended warranty) *Vehicle 3 - VIN NUMBER IN QUESTION - at 74,000 miles vehicle is now missing shifts, jumps out of gear. 2 DANGEROUS scenarios this week. Crossing oncomming traffic to turn onto road - 1-2 or 1-3 shift missed and complete loss of power/movement barely avoiding being hit by oncoming cars. Second occurrence, slowing to a red light on wet road. Coasting/Braking as transmission began downshifting from 10th gear,.. when it got to 7/6 it downshifted to Gear 4 sliding/screeching the rear tires as the rear end SLID/DRIFTED sideways causing me to PANIC STOP with brake pedal fully depressed to avoid free sliding or losing control of the vehicle. -100% available for inspection FORD SHOULD ABSOLUTELY RECALL ALL OF THE EARLY 10R80 EQUIPPED VEHICLES. IT'S DANGEROUS!! Vehicle has been checked/duplicated and verified by ASE certified technician, local dealer admitted to problems, there are NO MIL's, and NO FAULT CODES STORED COMPUTER. Dealer wants almost $9000 to replace transmission. Ford DO BETTER! -- THIS IS DANGEROUS.
fuel injector cracked and started spraying fuel in engine compartment and onto hot motor.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, the vehicle made an abnormal rattling sound. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. No further information was available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 118,923.
Check engine light turn on with the code P0087. The truck don't turn on quickly. Lose power at high demand or RPM.
The rear differential exploded while driving without warning. immediate lose of power while traveling 70mph, the explosion blew some hot parts of the differential off the road and started a brush fire.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, rainwater leaked into the cabin of the vehicle from the sunroof assembly because the sunroof failed to properly close. The vehicle to taken to the local dealer who removed debris from the sunroof tracks. After retrieving the vehicle, the contact discovered that rainwater was still leaking into the vehicle from the sunroof. The vehicle was taken back to the local dealer who advised that the sunroof assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not covered under the Manufacturer's Extended Warranty coverage related to the failure. The failure mileage was 20,000.
Catalytic converter has failed prior to 80,000 miles. Ford has done updates, via wifi, to the system, but it has not helped. Parts are now on back order due to the demand for replacing bank 2 (driver side) converters.
Somehow my daughter engaged park assist. She put her foot on brake and with it still on the break truck began reversing and do not stop till we ran over a mailbox. We even tried to turn wheel.
Transmission downshifted on the interstate and overheated. Wouldn’t go back in to gear. Was in the passing lane and ended in an accident.
i AM RECEIVING ALERTS ON MY FORD APP STATING THAT IT IS A PARKING AID ALERT BECAUSE OF ELECTRICAL ISSE WITHIN THE VEHICLE. ALSO STATES TO SERVICE ENGINE SOON ALERT BECAUSE OF ELECTRICAL ISSUE HAS BEEN DETECTED WITH YOUR VEHICLE. THIS MAY CAUSE THE ENGINE START/STOP FEATURE (IF EQUIPPED) TO NOT WORK. CHECKING ON THIS I FOUND 0 ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE FOR RECALLS. WITH FURTHER CHECKING I WAS INFORMED THAT THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL TO BE DONE. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF I CAN GET THIS REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL. I ALSO NOTICE WHEN STARTING MY VEHICLE IN THE MORNINGS THAT IT SMOKES OUT OF BOTH TAILPIPES AND LASTS APPROXIMATELY ONE TO TWO MINUTES. The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, there was a rattling sound coming from the front-end of the vehicle. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the front driver’s and passenger’s side shock absorber springs were cracked and fractured, causing damages to several suspension components on the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who informed the contact that the shock absorbers and springs needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 34,000.
I have 2 problems with my vehicle that have been going on for a while now. First there is an existing recall for 2020 ford f150's NHTA 25V442 Ford 25S72. Pertaining to the sync 3 malfunctioning as Ford put it "Ford says that an error in the SYNC infotainment system could cause a blank image to be displayed while reversing, or the rear-view image may remain on display even after a driver has stopped reversing." My vehicle is and has been doing this for a very long time. However, my vehicle VIN is not included in the recall. Though it should be since it is the exact same problem. The other safety issue I have is the front facing camera. It has completely stopped working quite some time ago. I asked ford about it, and they told me they would have to charge me to look into it. I don't have the money to throw at problems that should be fixed under recall because they are safety issues. This camera not working shuts down the pre collision assist which is very dangerous. It also controls the auto hi and lo beam for seeing at night, and last but not least the cruise control doesn't work without it.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-150. The contact stated that upon attempting to unlock the doors of the vehicle with the key fob, only the front driver's side door unlocked. There was no warning light illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that while attempting to manually unlock the tailgate, the tailgate failed to unlock as intended. The dealer was contacted and informed the contact that the failure could be related to an unknown actuator recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was filed. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 67,000.
This truck has the notorious 10 speed transmission. It has severely abrupt shifts, thuds, clunks. Sudden loss of power or surge of power when transmission shifts. Nhtsa is my only hope of getting the transmission repaired and safe. Not just my truck my sons 2021 had the same issue. Bad cdf drums. Ford revised the sort for 2023 and eliminated it but everyone from 2017-2021 are stuck with an erratic, dangerous transmission that needs recalled.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while the vehicle was locked and parked on the street with the engine running and unoccupied, the transmission erroneously shifted into gear and the vehicle drove forward. The contact stated that the vehicle crashed into another parked vehicle and landscaping and missed crashing into another vehicle that was driving in the opposite direction. The contact expressed concerns because no one was present inside the vehicle during the failure. The contact stated that the Police Department was contacted but no officers showed up on scene. No injuries were reported. The cause of the failure was not determined. The dealer was contacted and informed the contact that the PCM needed to be reprogrammed; however, the vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 22,000.
The contact’s father owns a 2020 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. While driving at various speeds and accelerating or while idling, the vehicle bucked or jerked. The vehicle failed to accelerate intermittently, causing the driver to make several attempts to restart the vehicle, depress the accelerator, and allow the engine to cool down for the vehicle to accelerate as needed. There was a loud grinding and knocking sound coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the engine had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure, and a case was opened. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.
At roughly 9:55pm on Thursday, July 11th while traveling northbound at 70mph on the Dallas North Tollway, my 2020 Ford F-150 Shelby Baja Raptor had an instant catastrophic engine failure. All power to the truck was lost. A red solid battery light came on the a yellow engine light began flashing. I was EXTREMELY fortunate, in that I was able to guide and control the vehicle off of the freeway, on to the service road and glided into a hospital parking lot. The steering completely locked up while navigating from the service road into the hospital parking lot. Once again I was EXTREMELY lucky. This was a terrifying experience that is imporrible to describe with words. The next morning I had the truck towed to a reputable auto repair business close by. Later that day the owner of the business informed me that the crankshaft sheared into where it meets its connection to the engine. He cited that this is EXTREMELY rare and would visit with Shelby America on Monday morning(today 7-14-25). There were no warning lights of any kind that have come up within the last year. The vehicle was purchased locally in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. All maintenance...scheduled and non-scheduled have been performed at the same Ford dealership where the truck was purchased. The truck has had $40,000 worth of maintenance on it since the beginning of 2025. This failure doesnot make sense. The Auto Repair shop indicated that I need a new engine. They also didn't understand why this would happen.
I’ve already had 10R80 10 speed transmission replaced once at 53,000 miles. Now I’m at 65,000 miles and I’m having issues again. Twice this past week, my truck has shifted from 6th gear down to 1st gear while driving for no reason. I’m getting rough shifts again and a lot of clunking and jerking.
The transmission in my 2020 Ford F-150 (10-speed automatic) has exhibited ongoing and dangerous shifting issues. While driving at normal speeds, the transmission frequently shifts hard between gears, surges, or delays engagement, especially between 2nd and 4th gear. On multiple occasions, the vehicle has jerked violently when slowing to a stop or accelerating from a red light. There have also been sudden RPM spikes and power loss without warning. The issue began around July 2025 [125,000 miles] and has continued. The safety of myself and others has been at risk due to the vehicle lunging forward at unpredictable times. This behavior has made it unsafe to merge into traffic or stop smoothly. No warning lamps have appeared, but the problem is reproducible. I believe this may be related to ongoing class actions regarding Ford’s 10R80 transmission. The issue has not been fully addressed by Ford, despite similar complaints from other owners.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds on several occasions, the vehicle accelerated unintendedly while depressing the brake pedal. The contact stated that the power train warning light was illuminated, and the message "Power Train Malfunction - Reduced Power" was displayed on the Mobile App. Additionally, the contact stated that while driving 60 MPH, the transmission downshifted unexpectedly while depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact stated that the engine revved while the RPM was fluctuating. The vehicle was not repaired. No further information was available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the manufacturer could not issue recalls. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline to file report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 15 MPH, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal and the engine seized. The contact was able to coast to the side of the road. The oil warning light was illuminated. The oil gauge indicator was at zero. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle with a cracked crankshaft between cylinders #2 and #3 and a cracked oil pan. The contact stated that the short block showed signs of metal shavings. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
The Windshield Wipers are malfunctioning, and the windshield washer motor doesn't work. you cannot adjust the speed of the Windshield Wipers. My safety concern is that the Windshield Wipers can come on at anytime and can shut off in any position on the Windshield which limits my visibility. It has been diagnosed by Joe Machens Capital City Ford Company, Invoice # [XXX] Phone# 573-634-4444 Service Direct# 573-994-2909. It is currently not under a recall, I feel the 2020 F-150 Ford Trucks should be included in this Windshield Wiper Malfunction. { UNKNOWN } Warnings or Messages? Experience HARSH Engagement with transmission both upshift and downshift. Some downshifts at so HARSH, feels like rear wheels are trying to “lock up”. Ford dealer performed recall which did not correct the issues. Ford dealer recommended full transmission replacement. Seems this is a known issue and Ford has admitted fault by issuing a recall in an effort to “fix” the problems with the 10 speed transmission.
Exhaust manifold leak due to factory turbo mounting and bolts issue. Due to improper amount of bolts in rear of exhaust manifold where ford designed the turbochargers to mount to there is warping of the exhaust manifold and the mounting bolts break off due to heating and cooling with the turbochargers weight. Very common issue with the f150, causing exhaust leaks and possible carbon monoxide to leak into cabin. This is a dangerous design flaw that owners should not have to pay out of pocket to repair due to fords poor engine design flaw. Ford should have to recall the engine manifolds
