WHILE APPLYING BRAKES VEHICLE WILL NOT STOP. DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF PROBLEM.*AK CONSUMER STATED THAT WHEN APPLYING BRAKES THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATES AND SHAKES. THE DEALER MACHINED THE ROTORS AGAIN BUT THE VEHICLE STILL VIBRATES ABOVE 35 MPH. *YH
CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CLUTCH PEDAL WENT ABOUT 1/2 WAY BEFORE ENGAGING. DIFFICULT TO ENGAGE CLUTCH AND SHIFT TRANSMISSION. I WAS TOWING A TRAILER AT THE TIME OF FAILURE. WHEN I CONTACTED THE FORD DEALER TO SCHEDULE REPAIR HE SAID NOT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE VERY FAR BECAUSE COMPLETE FAILURE WOULD PROBABLY OCCUR. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT FORD IS VERY AWARE OF THIS DEFECT AND HAS REDESIGNED THIS PART DUE TO MANY FAILURES. EVEN THOUGH AN ACCIDENT DID NOT OCCUR, I THINK A SAFETY RECALL IS NEEDED SINCE THESE VEHICLES ARE DESIGNED TO HAUL OR CARRY HEAVY LOADS AND THIS TYPE OF FAILURE COULD MAKE IT DIFFICULT TO ENGAGE THE CLUTCH WHEN TRYING TO STOP THE VEHICLE, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CATASTROPHIC ACCIDENT. THE COST FOR REPAIR WAS $305.26
WHILE TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY APPLIED BRAKES AND PEDAL ENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. THERE WAS NO BRAKE POWER. DEALERSHIP WAS AWARE OF PROBLEM.*AK
ON 7-28-02 I WAS DRIVING WESTBOUND WITH MY 26' FIFTH-WHEEL TRAILER ON U.S.90 EAST OF SYRACUSE, N.Y. WHEN I FELT A SLIGHT SHIMMY IN MY STEERING. THE SHIMMY SOON BECAME A SEVERE WOBBLING SO I SLOWED DOWN AND PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY AT THE FIRST EXIT I CAME TO IN SYRACUSE. ON EXAMINING THE TIRE I SAW THAT THE STEEL CORE HAD SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE. I PUT ON MY SPARE TIRE AND THE NEXT DAY CONTINUED BY TRIP. ON 8-7-02 I WAS NORTHBOUND ON NORTH DAKOTA 281 SOUTH OF JAMESTOWN WHEN I FELT ANOTHER SHIMMY IN THE TRUCK NEAR HIGHWAY 34. THIS TIME I DISCOVERED THAT THE STEEL CORE OF THE LEFT REAR TIRE HAD SEPARATED THE SAME AS THE FIRST. IN THE FIRST INSTANCE I CONTACTED LOCAL FORD AND FIRESTONE DEALERSHIPS AND WAS TOLD BY BOTH THAT THESE TIRES ARE NO LONGER WARRANTED AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO TO REPLACE THEM.*AK
CONSUMER SHIFTED TO REVERSE AND VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND SHOT BACKWARDS 30 FEET,HITTING ANOTHER VEHICLE. NO INJURIES, DAMAGE TO VEHICLE UNKNOWN AT THIS TIME.*AK
WHEN CHANGING A TIRE CONSUMER NOTICED SPARE TIRE HAD 8 GROOVES IN THE SIDEWALL, 3 INCHES LONG AND 1/4 INCH DEEP. THIS WAS CAUSED BY TIRE RUBBING UNDERNEATH VEHICLE.*AK
WHILE AT A STOP TRANSMISSION MADE A LOUD NOISE. VEHICLE MADE IT ACROSS THE INTERSECTION, THEN ,VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. DEALER NOT CONTACTED YET.*AK
CONSUMER WOULD PUSH CLUTCH IN, AND THEN HE COULD NOT PUT VEHICLE IN GEAR. AFTER TAKING VEHICLE TO MECHANIC , HE FOUND OUT THAT TRANSMISSION BEARING WAS GONE/ ALL BURNED. *AK
AFTER THE FIRESTONE PROBLEM, I NEEDED NEW TIRES ~40K. I WENT TO GOODYEAR, THEY DIDN'T HAVE AN "E" RANGE TIRE IN THIS SIZE SO THEY PUT "D" LOAD RNAGE TIRES ON. AFTER 5000 MILES, FIRST ROTATION, THERE WERE BUBBLES ON ALL FOUR TIRES. THEY REPLACED THEM UNDER WARRANTY. AT THAT TIME THEY START TO OFFER "E" SO I SWITCHED TO "E" RANGE. AFTER 5000 MILES THEY STARTED TO DEVELOP A VIBRATION, LIKE AN OUT OF BALANCE PROBLEM. I DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO TAKE THEM IN BEFORE THE NEXT ROTATION WAS DUE. THE RIGHT REAR TIRE BLEW OUT WHILE PULLING MY BOAT DOWN THE INTERSTATE IN NEW YORK. I LOST CONTROL WHEN IT GOT DOWN ON THE RIM AND THE BOAT JACKKNIFED. IT SPUN OUT OF CONTROL INTO THE MEDIAN. POLICE WERE CALLED. VEHICLE WAS DRIVEABLE. I CHANGED TIRE AND DROVE HOME. NO PUNCTURES WERE NOTED AFTER INSPECTION BY TIRE DEALER AND INSURANCE INVESTIGATOR.. SWITCHED BACK TO FIRESTONE STEELTEX. AWAITING GOODYEARS RESPONSE. OTHER PROBLEMS NOTED AS HAVING OCCURRED IMMEDIATELY PRIOR, UNKNOWN IF CAUSAL, FOR COMPLETENESS ONLY.*AK

CONUSMER SMELLED OIL, WHICH WAS CAUSED BY ENGINE HEAD GASKET LEAKING.*AK
BALL JOINT IS WORN OUT, AND AT 20MPH FRONT AND REAR BRAKE PADS FELL ONTO THE GROUND. CAUSE UNKNOWN. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK
CONSUMER STATES WHILE SLOWING DOWN TO SPEEDS OF 5-10 MPH THE TWO FRONT AIR BAGS UNEXPECTEDLY DEPLOYED AND BROKE THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW AND HIT THE DRIVER. CONTACTED DEALER AND THE DEALER IS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING.*JB
WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH CONSUMER WAS NOT ABLE TO SHIFT GEARS. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALER. DEALER DETERMINED THAT CLUTCH FORK HAD BROKEN.*AK
THE VEHICLE BEGAN EXPERIENCING A BRAKE FADE WHILE COMING TO A HARD STOP. AFTER THE THIRD TIME THIS HAPPENED, CONSUMER TRIED TO DUPLICATE THE EVENT BUT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL SERVICE STATION TO HAVE THE BRAKE SYSTEM INSPECTED. THE TECHNICIAN LOOKED OVER THE BRAKES AND SAW NO SIGNS OF DAMAGE OR ABNORMAL ROTOR WEAR. THE TECH SUGGESTED THEAT THE REAR ROTORS AND ALL PADS BE REPLACED. IN ADDITION, THE TECH INFORMED CONSUMER THAT THE BRAKE LINE MAY NOT HAVE BEEN ADEQUATELY BLED FROM A PREVIOUS RECALL SERVICE PRIOR TO PURCHASING THE VEHICLE. TWO WEEKS AFTER THE INSPECTION THERE WAS A FAINT SCRAPING SOUND COMING FROM THE RIGHT REAR OF THE VEHICLE. TWO WEEKS AFTER HEARING THE NOISE, THE BRAKES FAILED. ON THE GROUND WERE PIECES OF THE BRAKE PAD AND SMALL FRAGMENTS OF CAST STEEL. BRAKE FLUID LEAKED HEAVILY FROM THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE LOCAL SERVICE CENTER. THE OWNER OF THE CENTER CONCLUDED THAT THE CAUSE APPEARED TO BE A CALIPER WHICH FROZE IN THE ENGAGED POSITION DUE TO CONDENSATION WITHIN THE CALIPER LEADING TO INNER CORROSION AND THUS MECHANICAL FAILURE. *JG
CONSUMER STATES WHEN APPLYING BRAKES, IF VEHICLE HITS A BUMP ABS WILL STOP HOLDING CAUSING DRIVER TO RUN INTO THE BACK OF ANOTHER VEHICLE.*JB

WHILE REPLACING FRONT ROTORS, CONSUMER NOTICED THAT FRONT AXLE WAS INCORRECT FOR THIS VEHICLE AS LISTED IN PARTS OF CATALOG. FORD HAS BEEN NOTIFIED.*AK *JB
WHEN DRIVING AND UPON DEPRESSING BRAKE PEDAL TO MAKE A GRADUAL STOP, TRANSMISSION SUDDENLY LOCKED UP. TRANSMISSION HUNG UP IN GEAR AND FAILED TO DISENGAGE FROM ANY GEAR. CONSUMER HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO A DEALER. *AK *SLC

WHILE I WAS EXITING MY TRUCK, WITH MOTOR OFF AND TRANSMISSION IN PARK, THE PIN THAT HOLDS IT IN PARK FAILED AND ALLOWED THE TRUCK TO ROLL BACKWARDS. THIS SCOPED ME UP IN THE DOOR AND DRAGGED ME OVER THE HILLSIDE NEXT TO THE ROAD. I HAD TO ESCAPE FROM THE DOOR BEFORE IT RAN INTO TREES, AND IN THAT PROCESS DISLOCATED MY LEFT ELBOW AND TWO RIBS ALONG WITH NUMEROUS BRUISES. THE TRUCK IS AT A REPAIR SHOP TO REVIEW WHAT HAPPENED TO ITS PARK GEAR.*AK
DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIRBAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY DURING A 50 MPH FRONTAL COLLISION, DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURIES TO HIS FACE, DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED.*AK. *JB

WHILE TRAVELING AT 25-35MPH REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE AS A RESULT OF AIR BAGS NOT DEPLOYING. MAJOR DAMAGE TO CONSUMER FRONT END. MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN CONTACTED. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
WHILE TRAVLEING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN A FULL FRONTAL CRASH. BOTH AIR BAGS, DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER'S, FAILED TO DEPLOY. WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 75 MPH IN A 1999 FORD F250, THE LEFT-REAR FIRESTONE STEELTEX A/T TIRE, SIZE: LT265/75R16, EXPERIENCED TREAD SEPARATION. THERE WAS APPROXIMATELY 16,000 MILES ON THE TIRE AND IT WAS ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT. *AK THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR TIRE HAD THROWN ALL OF THE TIRE TREAD OFF IN ONE PIECE AND THE TREAD HAD BEAT UP THE TRUCK BODY AROUND THE WHEEL. FUEL VALVE IS LEAKING FUEL BACK INTO COOLING SYSTEM WHICH IS NEXT TO BATTERY. THIS CAUSES FUEL VAPORS TO ENTER THROUGH VENTS WHILE DRIVING. HAD TAKEN VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP ON 04 OCT 01 AND HAD IT REPAIRED. HOWEVER, PROBLEM HAS NOW REAPPEARED. *AK
WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 20 MPH VEHICLE STALLED, THEN NOTICED A TRAIL OF TRANSMISSION FLUID BEHIND VEHICLE, ADDED TRANSMISSION FLUID TO VEHICLE, AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME. TIRE HAS A BULGE IN ONE-HALF OF THE TREAD APPROXIMATELY 16 INCHES LONG. I NOTICED THE TRUCK STEERING OUT OF CONTROL AND I WAS ABLE TO CHANGE THE TIRE BEFORE IT BURST. I STILL HAVE THE TIRE AND IT HOLDS AIR BUT I INTEND TO REPLACE ALL MY TIRES WITHIN THE NEXT WEEK OR SO. SINCE IT HASN'T FAILED I THOUGHT IT MAY BE VALUABLE TO YOU FOR CLOSE SCRUTINY. I ALSO HAVE DIGITAL PHOTOS IF YOU LIKE. PLEASE LET ME KNOW WITHIN THE NEXT WEEK BECAUSE THE TIRE WILL BE DISCARDED. THANK YOU. VIOLENT SHUDDER AT 65 MPH ON HIGHWAY. CONTINUED SHAKING TILL SPEED DECREASED TO AROUND 50 MPH. THE EXTREME TWISTING AND TIRE BOUNCING MADE CONTROL ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE, FORTUNATELY, I HAVE A CLASS A CDL AND WAS ABLE T STOP THE TRUCK SAFELY . THE FIRST FAILURE OCCURRED ON THE FREEWAY. THE TREAD CAME OFF AND THE TIRE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED. I TOOK IT TO FIRESTONE TO REPLACE THE TIRE--THERE WAS NO RECALL AT THE TIME. THE SECOND TIME, 2 WEEKS AGO, THE TIRE TREAD WHIPPED AROUND INSIDE THE WHEEL WELL AND WRECKED MY FENDER AND RUNNING BOARD. I ALMOST GOT RUN OFF THE ROAD AND CAME CLOSE TO A MAJOR ACCIDENT. I THEN PURCHASED 4 NEW MICHELIN TIRES FOR SAFETY SAKE. I CALLED FIRESTONE AND THEIR "CUSTOMER SERVICE " SAID THEY WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS AS THESE TIRES AREN'T UNDER RECALL!! PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THESE TIRES---PEOPLE WILL GET HURT AND/OR KILLED WITH THEM!!!!! THANK YOU. P.S. WHILE TRAVELING AT 42MPH ANOTHER VEHICLE GOT IN THE WAY OF CONSMER'S VEHICLE, AND IT RAN INTO OTHER VEHICLE HEAD-ON. UPON IMPACT, NONE OF FRONTAL AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. CONSUMER AND PASSENGER WERE SERIOUSLY HURT IN THE CRASH. CONTACTED DEALER, AND THE DEALER WASD NOT WILLING TO LOOK INTO DEFECT OF VEHICLE. *AK
CONSUMER IS EXPERIENCING A PROBLEM WITH THE DUAL FUEL TANKS . FUEL CROSSING OVER BETWEEN FUEL TANKS AT RANDOM INTERVALS. DEALERSHIP HAS INFORMED CONSUMER THAT HIS VEHICLE WAS NOT AFFECTED BY ANY RECALLS. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION / ATTACHMENTS.*AK
